These Maruzen pens were the first Japanese pens I have seen with a direct copy of a Sheaffer Triumph nib, but they were not alone. There are Navy brand and several unbranded pens with similar conical nibs. These post World War II Athena pens are examples of Maruzen’s return to making quality pens. One line is clearly inspired by mid 1940s Sheaffer Triumph fountain pens to the degree that they have a similar conical nib, ribbed nib section, and balance shape. They look like Japanese Sheaffer pens in the same way that many other companies copied Parker 51s. The second Athena line has a cap and barrel shape and style more like the 1940s Parker Duofold, though without the striped plastic. Removing the cap reveals the same Sheaffer Triumph style nib and section as on the balance shape pens.
Read the story about these interesting pens here:

Sketching random people encountered while having meals or chilling in cafes -- my usual go to places are kopitiams (eateries) near where I stay. People come and go and there is always no lack of subjects to sketch from. People move all the time so you are constantly managing time to complete a drawing, simplifying as you go and capturing the essence of their poses, shapes and sizes.

Day 3: radiate positivity. Wanted to play with my new fountain pen again. I was curious what some traditional copperplate might look like with it. (Even though it's not my expertise at all.) It's not nearly as fine a point as a dip pen but I love any line variation so it was an enjoyable experience. Call me lazy but I love not having to stop to dip for more ink. 🥰 Also, I added around 80-90% water to the ink for a more ghostly, shadow effect.

Little flying gremlin Toni Rivière, friend of little birds and my fav lil guy as he is my profile pic! I’m working on 3 reference sheets for those new characters that I call the 3 Rivière which is some sort of reincarnation story. They share the same ancient soul and have things in common like they are great flyers and storm crafter, talk with birds, gremlin energy, often seen disheveled or with feathers in their hair, fave food is fish.
I’ve been drawing Toni with a diamond shaped kite wing as default so far, but i’ve made the effort to design something that makes a bit more sense for flying. It needed to be a little handglider home made by a child so nothing too complex, that also needs to flip so he can ride it like a skateboard, for this to be stable ish it needs a tail with a vertical stabiliser but i couldn’t make it work, so i went back to avery basic delta shape design. The best kite design it the Thai chula anyway, there is no toping that!
This is very dangerous don’t do it at home!

This is a Parker 50 Falcon “Flighter” fountain pen c. 1979. This 5 1/8 inch long cartridge / converter fountain pen is noted for its integrated stainless steel nib. The nib is essentially an extension of the section all the way to the slit for the tines and the tipping material. The gripping part of the section has a matte finish.  The brushed stainless steel finish was complemented with gold plated trim. PARKER over MADE IN U.S.A. is stamped on the back cap lip.  This example has a feathered clip like the Parker Systemark rather than the plainer clip usually seen on the Falcon.  Available nib grades were extra fine, fine, medium and broad.
