“Sister Beatrice really out there thinking Ava doesn’t want her and likes a blond boy when Ava’s kissing her cheek, causing our girl gay panic and go through several seconds of disassociation.”
Happy Inktober! I tried drawing Beatrice from memory. Excuse the messy bun and poor choice of paper. I have this thing where I draw better doodles when I’m not so serious about it.
I heard there’s a lot of confusing news about the series. Nonetheless, I’m going to keep appreciating Warrior Nun for how profound it is as a series. Art can transcend time, and I think people forget that masterpieces can live on forever (even if it is sadly butchered or discontinued). No matter what, we have this story that came out and did it’s thing.
On the real however, I think Sister Beatrice’s storyline was so healing. Ava listened to Beatrice’s non-coming-out, coming-out story, and flat out told Beatrice that “what you are is beautiful”. This is so powerful after probably being told by her parents and society that what she was (gay) was a “flaw”. I’m probably not the first one to rave about this. But having Ava listen without saying anything else like saying “things are better now” or “I accept you” was amazing. She just went straight to “don’t hate what you are, what you are is beautiful” and meant it. Ava understands the feeling of being disowned and rejected after spending so many years in an abusive orphanage (um murderous orphanage at that). She understands Beatrice’s pain. You can see in Beatrice’s face the weight getting lifted off her shoulders after so many years. She needed to hear that. I’m now wondering if the other sisters know about beatrice or if Ava is the first one to know this.
Another thing to note was how this was the point when Beatrice began to fall for Ava, as shown by the long gaze scene after Ava falls into Beatrice’s arms. This whole episode was a masterpiece in showing what it means to truly see, love, and embrace someone who has intersectional identities as opposed to only tolerating their existence for the sake of it. Great writing from Kristina, Simon and other writers.
Thanks for reading my jumbled stream of consciousness thoughts. Should I make this a colored, more serious work?

I can't stop thinking of them, so I drew the Science Team from memory!
(Constructive critique appreciated, especially to help memorize important character traits I missed.)
