haizaki shougo is in the sticks
for @paintoreos who requested “could you write some fluff for Hanamiya/Haizaki of them being kissed by their s/o for the first time?? 🙏❤️” and @dust-of-fandoms who requested “I have been in a Haizaki mood for a couple of days now, would he be too annoying to write fluff for? I feel like the fluffy part of a relationship with him comes after he gets over himself and starts treating his partner better.” hope this works for you both!
engawas are like japanese architecture’s equivalent of a porch. haizaki’s aged up to 20 in this so i’m not promoting minors drinking. i'm not advising that adults drink either. haizaki is permanently bad role model.
Sat alone on the engawa, Haizaki takes another swig of beer and stares out across the sticky summer dusk, dimming fields stuffed with rice flowers and mosquitos. Excluding the crickets, he hears nothing but his own breath and the sloshing of the sip of beer in the can.
When she said her family was from the sticks, she really meant it.
It’s no place for a city boy like Haizaki. He misses the sound of anything and everything, police sirens to the neighbours’ arguments. Even thinking about the sound of the nursery kids screaming down the road is making him feel homesick. The sound of people and the sound of conflict: he’s only just realised that it’s been with him since he was born.
At last, he hears footsteps behind him and the thump of a girl coming to sit down beside him.
“You took your time,” Haizaki remarks, moving over for her.
She hands him another beer and opens her own. “Don’t tell me you were scared without me?”
“Scared? Of what - the crickets?”
“Bears. Ghosts. Serial killers.”
“Very funny.”
“I’m not kidding,” and she points towards a couple dwellings in the distance, her nightgown sleeve slipping down towards her elbow. “When my parents were born, the guy who lived over there would have been on his third murder. It took another two deaths before the police found him, and they still haven’t found all the bodies. They say the lead investigator only figured it out when he realised how well the guy’s crops were growing. And, you know what the creepy part is? He’s been in prison for decades now but the crops still grow better than everyone else’s.”
“Yeah, well I’m not scared of him. Hell, if he ever got out and tried something, I’d-“
In the darkness, a meow. Haizaki squeaks with surprise and she bursts into giggles as the culprit, her mother’s aged tabby, trots over towards them.
“Says he’s not scared of a serial killer but can’t even face a cat without bursting into tears.”
“Oi, he just caught me by surprise,” he replies gruffly, looking away. “I’d take him in a fight too. Dumb fucking cat.”
She’s still giggling, “what are going you going to do, Mr Big Bad Haizaki? Challenge him to a duel, 1v1 him, organise a boxing match with a cat?”
“You don’t get it. He disrespected me. Disrespected me,” he repeats, stressing each syllable, focused on trying to keep his tone sounding serious, to keep her laughing as long as possible. “As a man, I can’t let this slide.”
The cat is now swatting at mosquitos, rolled over onto his back.
“He doesn’t think you’re a worthy enough opponent. You’ll have to fight the mosquitos before you have the right to challenge him.” She takes a sip of beer and glances at the tens of mosquito bites littering Haizaki’s arms and legs. “And I don’t think you’ll win against them anytime soon.”
“Man, was this why you invited me here? Just to mock me?”
“Yeah, pretty much.”
“And here I thought it was because a cute chick liked me.” Haizaki reaches out to the cat and lets him swipe at the man’s hands “You hear that? I’ve become a laughing stock.”
“No, you weren’t wrong about the cute chick liking you,” she says, and turns her head, and her lips make gentle contact with Haizaki’s cheek.
No one says anything. Haizaki’s heart is going a mile a minute, even though logically he knows it’s just a kiss, really just a peck on the cheek, something that a guy who’s been in as many half-hearted hookups as he has should have long been desensitised to. Yet the intimacy of it panics him, has him blushing like a kid, has him thinking twenty years ahead to days of sitting on this engawa together, maybe with more cats, maybe even with kids, and holding her hand, and watching the sunset, and realising that the feeling of her presence, and shoulder brushing his, will always be far more comforting than any city sounds.
He’s thinking, what the fuck is wrong with you Haizaki Shougo?
And he’s mumbling, because love is still too big and intimidating a concept to profess,
“Do that again.”

What do you think would happen if Kirisaki Dai Ichi played against Fukuda Sogo? Practically a clash between Hanamiya and Haizaki
Haizaki isn't stupid, is he? I mean, I wouldn't say he's got the same level of game sense as characters like Kuroko, Hanamiya, or Akashi, but Haizaki's good at agitating players, right? So, I kind of think that Hanamiya would try to spin his web to catch Haizaki in, but Haizaki would just bust through it by disturbing the moves of everyone else on Kirisaki Daiichi to give him an opening to drive through. Maybe not, though. Maybe Hanamiya would bug Haizaki enough with his mind games to force Haizaki out of the game with fouls or something. Of course, this all depends on whether each of them has reformed since their games with Seirin. If they haven't, it's entirely possible that they'd just get into a fistfight and get thrown out of the tournament all together.
Thanks for the ask!

Aaand another thing to pay attention to in Kaijo vs Fukuda game.
By the end of the 3rd quarter Kaijo was losing 51-63. And then in the break between quarters Kaijo’s coach makes this remark:
Tumblr media
Which tells us what?
That up to the quarter finals Haizaki wasn’t as strong as it was shown in the match against Kise. Most likely meaning that Shougo felt no need to steal moves from opponents before the game with Kaijo.
And Fukuda still got into top 8 schools in the country by not even utilizing Haizaki to the fullest of his current abilities.
By Kaijo’s reactions it seems like they weren’t fully ready to go against Haizaki’s Pillage. Which is interesting - why? Kise should’ve seen Shougo in action, they had some time together in Teiko. Kuroko knows Haizaki’s strength but Kise didn’t? Under-estimated? Forgot? Thought Haizaki stopped playing? Hardly any of those, cause this is 1/4 of Winter cup, no weak teams left, and Kise is many things but I wouldn’t call him dumb in basketball department. He’s analytical enough to instantly copy moves, he should’ve picked up on Haizaki’s strength. And at least tell his team that the guy they’re about to face was a starter in Teiko’s Kiseki no Sedai team. But we only see it being mentioned to Kasamatsu, and Kise simply calling Haizaki ‘an old acquaintance’. Pretty odd, if you ask me. Especially given what Kaijo’s coach said in that manga extract above, it’s like they knew of Haizadick but did not expect him to be that good? Or is it simply mangaka being inconsistent again for dramaticTM purposes? In the end, only Kise’s Perfect Copy saved Kaijo’s ass from being beat by Fukuda with a slacking ace who didn’t even had any ‘power-ups’ since Teiko. And I see people thinking that Haizaki is worse than Uncrowned Kings. Open your eyes folks, read the manga, and check the stats. It’s all there.

Kise had known that the outcome of winning the Kaijo vs Fukuda Sogo match wouldn’t be good. But he had expected Haizaki to resort to his usual violent tendencies. In fact, he was almost hoping for it at this point, after seeing what exactly Haizaki was trying to do as part of his revenge. He hadn’t anticipated this at all.
He glared at Haizaki across the table as he conversed with you, talking about the “good old middle school days I spent with Ryota-kun”. Kise nearly barfed at the words, knowing not one sentence that left his rotten mouth was true. He didn’t expect you to know that though. You were listening in intrigue, munching on your lunch and smiling at certain points of Haizaki’s (completely fabricated) stories. Kise felt his hold on his chopsticks tighten, jaw clenching in repressed anger. His leg shook under the table to try and allay some of his anxiety. It was not working.
It was supposed to be a nice, spontaneous shopping date when he had picked you up at your place this morning. He needed new basketball shoes, and it was the perfect excuse to drag you along. He wanted to take every opportunity to spend time with you now that you were officially his. In his mind, this was your first official date after he had asked you to be his girlfriend.
Kise had liked you from the minute he saw you in his class. You had made the transition from Teiko Middle School to Kaijo High way easier for him. You had been kind and befriended him early on when he asked for your help on a particularly difficult Math question (he knew the answer, he just needed an excuse to talk to you). You had enthusiastically agreed to help him, and the rest had been history.
To Kise, you were special. You didn’t care about his athletic pursuits or his modeling career. While you supported him wholeheartedly in all his endeavors, they didn’t define him. And he loved that about you. You were different to him than the usual girls who flocked to him, attracted by the glitter and glam and unable to see the boy underneath. Had it not been so early in your relationship, Kise would wax poetic about you every opportunity he got.
But this was new. It was new and fresh and so, so delicate. He couldn’t risk unintentionally pushing you away. Not when he had just got you.
And so the fear gripped him as he watched you laugh at something Haizaki said, realizing that he could very easily lose you to the man sitting in front of you right now. He had done it before, after all. It wouldn’t be difficult for him to woo you. He had run into the two of you while you shopped, greeting Kise like a long-lost friend and introducing himself as Kise’s old best buddy before Kise could get a single word out. He didn’t even have time to process what was happening before Haizaki was inviting you two to have lunch with him, to which you excitedly agreed, claiming you wanted to know Kise’s old friend, And you were always so kind. How was he supposed to explain to you that Haizaki was a snake? How was he supposed to drag you away without coming off as an asshole? You would probably tell him that he was being too harsh. You always saw the good in people.
You had seen the good in him, hadn’t you?
Kise felt a nudge at his side, turning his head to look at you seated by his side. You were looking at him worriedly, eyes wide and lips pursed in apprehension.
“Are you okay, Ryo-kun?” Your voice was so soft it naturally made his stiff shoulders loosen. He let out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding.
Across the table, Haizaki was smirking dangerously on him, a glint in his eye that told Kise all he needed to know. A claw gripped his heart, throat knotting as the fears of his middle school days encroached on his mind.
Your gentle touch on his arm made him finally move, standing up so abruptly it startled you. You blinked owlishly up at him, and he felt almost bad for doing this, if not for the sweat building up on the back of his neck.
“Can we leave, Y/N-cchi? I’m feeling a bit under the weather.” He tried to keep his voice steady, pointedly ignoring Haizaki’s burning stare. You nodded hastily, standing up and giving Haizaki a smile that made Kise want to scream.
“I guess we have to cut this short, huh?” Haizaki lumbered to his feet, giving Kise a grin that was so fake it took everything for him to not roll his eyes. “We should meet up more often, Y/N-chan, I have so many other stories about Ryota you would love to hear.”
Over Kise’s dead body.
He had reached for your hand, gripping it tightly in his own before throwing a glare at Haizaki, turning to walk out with you in tow. He had used your first name, and addressed you with an endearing honorific. After just one meeting. One conversation. Was that all it took?
“Ryo-kun, slow down!”
Kise blinked and stopped walking, turning to look back at you. He gasped and dropped his hand when he realized how tightly he was holding it, feeling his neck and ears heat up in embarrassment. He gave you a sheepish smile.
“Sorry, Y/N-cchi,” he rubbed the back of his head. “I got carried away.”
You sighed and took his hand again, looking around before leading him to an empty bench down the street. You sat down and patted the spot next to you, waiting for him to seat himself before you began to talk.
“You want to tell me what’s going on?”
Kise stared at you for a bit, gulping in what he assumed was a discreet way. “What do you mean? Nothing’s going on.”
Your face was blank as you looked at him, raising a delicate eyebrow in a way that clearly said that’s bullshit. Kise almost laughed.
“You were clearly uncomfortable around Shogo-kun. From the minute we met him, you’ve been quiet. It’s not like you.”
He didn’t hear a word past Shogo-kun. How long had it taken for you to start calling him anything other than Kise-kun? Haizaki had already made more progress in an hour than he had done in months.
“Ryo-kun?” You leaned towards him, and Kise felt every muscle in his body scream. He was panicking, he knew it. It seemed like all his confidence had suddenly gone down the drain. He felt the urge to run far, far away so he didn’t have to witness you spend a single happy minute with Haizaki. And even though Haizaki wasn’t here, Kise felt like the man was hanging over him like a shadow.
“Oh, Ryota, Y/N-chan.” This couldn’t be happening. It couldn’t be real. He watched Haizaki walk up to where you both sat. “You guys are still here. I thought you left, considering Ryota was feeling…… under the weather.”
That fucking tone. Haizaki was mocking him. Kise felt something simmer in his chest, feeling anger that he hadn’t felt since his last tough basketball game. You were looking between both of them in confusion, at the intense staring contest he had going with Haizaki. Kise felt bad, dragging you into this mess just because he won a basketball game. In the grand scheme of things, and compared to you, that win was nothing. Had Kise known this would ensue, he would never have provoked Haizaki or even played in the game.
“We were just leaving.” You stood up, pulling Kise out of his thoughts. Your stance was purposeful and closed off, which made Kise bite the inside of his cheek with worry. Had he freaked you out? Were you upset?
He wordlessly got to his feet and followed you when you tugged on his hand, feeling anxious that this would somehow ruin things between the two of you. A mere ten feet of walking later, you turned around abruptly, looking up at Kise with a heated stare that made him freeze.
“Kiss me.”
Kise’s mouth fell open in shock, eyes so wide he felt like they were ready to pop out of his skull. “H-huh?”
“You want to show him that I belong to you, right?” You leaned closer. “That’s what all the glaring is about. Well, do it. He’s watching.”
Kise instinctively turned his head behind you to see, and sure enough, Haizaki was standing right where you two had left him, only a few strides away, watching both of you, hands stuffed casually in his pockets. He smirked when their eyes met. Kise realized that in that moment, Haizaki probably thought you two were having an argument.
He felt his chest burn in anger.
The next second he turned back to you, one hand reaching up to hold the back of your head and the other on your waist, pulling you in until your lips were meeting in a searing kiss.
He nearly pulled away in surprise when you kissed him back just as aggressively, hands reaching up to tangle in his hair, standing on your tiptoes and tilting your head to deepen the kiss. Kise nearly moaned, winding an arm around your waist until your body was flush against his. The people walking past you two faded away from his mind, and he felt his core tighten at how good you felt.
You had never kissed like this. In the handful of times that you had, it had been soft and hesitant, testing the waters, giggling and laughing as you exchanged gentle pecks after a good date. You had never arched into him like this, never sighed and hummed or tugged on his hair until little tingles ran through his scalp. He relished in the feeling of you, in the soft give of your hips under his hands, tongue running over your lips until you opened your mouth and let him in. Kise groaned long and low into your mouth, at how pliant you were being. His cock twitched in his trousers.
He turned you slightly and opened his eyes, still kissing and licking at your lips, eyes laser focused on the person behind you. Haizaki’s mouth had dropped open, and he looked pissed off as he lifted his hand, showing Kise a middle finger before turning and walking in the other direction.
Kise smirked and closed his eyes, both arms wrapping around your frame and kissing you harder, longer, not caring at the weird looks you were attracting.
He kicked himself for ever doubting your love, for ever doubting you and your devotion to him. It took so many months, but that meant one thing; you two had entered this relationship with complete trust and comfort, and a fake, one hour conversation with some random guy wasn’t going to mess that up. Haizaki could try over and over and it still wouldn’t work. This was one thing he couldn’t steal. And the way you whimpered into his mouth when he bit at your lip proved it.
You were Kise’s. No one else’s.

feel free to explain in the tags/reblog :) my opinion is below the cut
as a kagami fan, the best is season 2! aka my personal favorite
best overall match: touou versus seirin II is a huge highlight of the season with the introduction of the zone and the resolution of aomine and kuroko's relationship arc beginning in season 1. the scenes at the hot springs with both teams are both funny and hype (aomine, kagami, and kuroko - "the one who will win-" "is us!")
best overall match honorable mention: seirin v shutoku II is the first re-match between seirin and the generation of miracles. I love the fast pacing and seeing the impact of losing on midorima (learning how to rely on his team and passing). the game ending in a tie is plot convenient (lol), but satisfying
favorite character: himuro tatsuya! while i don't love the resolution of kagami and himuro's relationship (we should've got more tbh), himuro is an interesting character as an insight into why kagami was so abrasive in season 1 and as a foil to kuroko (kuroko hates not taking an opponent seriously because of 11-111 and ogiwara, himuro hates not taking an opponent seriously because kagami taking a dive for their relationship). himuro is to kagami as aomine is to kuroko.
favorite character honorable mention: hanamiya makoto. kirisaki daichii never getting caught for fouling is absolute bullshit, but hanamiya is a very cool antagonist as a foil to kiyoshi and a full-on, no explanation, 100% HATER. the allusions to his relationship with imayoshi because of their similarities and the fact that they went to the same middle school is intriguing - what did that basketball team look like with two super sadists? lololol
favorite heartfelt moment: kagami's consideration for his teammates grows ten-fold this season and his kindness to kuroko (helping carry kuroko when he's exhausted or knocked down, the moment on kagami's balcony, etc) gets paid back when kuroko keeps kagami's ring and gives it back to him after the yosen match! kagami immediately running to find himuro is really fucking sweet.

if there's one thing I'm mad and sad about kuroko's basketball, it's that Kise got injured and couldn't play his best against Haizaki/Fukuda Sogo and Seirin.
I feel like the outcome of the game would've been much different if he wasn't in pain.

to blame | yandere!haizaki shougo x fem!reader
tw; violence and sexual harassment, abusive relationships, (not explicit) dubcon, victim blaming, misogyny. reader is living the very specific hell of a reader from one of those various!yandere x reader fics.
It’s their fault. It’s the way they brush their shoulder against yours in the street, look at you just that second too long. Haizaki knows that look well. He’s one of them, after all. Lecherous. He’s seen what they see when they look at you; he’s felt that tightness against the crotch of his jeans. Many a time, he’s let his gaze linger on a girl just enough to make her uncomfortable - so she knows exactly what he’s thinking.
But, unlike those guys, Haizaki was never a coward. When a girl’s boyfriend came to save the day, he rose to the challenge. With short jabs, quick kicks, and no moves excluded from his repertoire for being too dangerous, he was more of a man-eater than he was into girls. God, those girls gave him less of a hard on than the one he got watching those guys roll on the pavement, blood streaming from their noses onto the concrete, as their girl watched in horror - this was the man she thought would protect her? Her fucking Prince Charming? - and then looked at Haizaki with even greater fear. Sometimes, girls would even start running away without her boyfriend in tow. Haizaki let them go with a wolf-whistle for a goodbye. Just so they’d remember what he thought of them. So they’d know what he’d be thinking about in a dark room later that day.
Those days are over now. He’s got you. A chick not bad on the eyes, who smiles politely and flinches away when his fingers get a little too explorative in public. Who does what he says because she knows he’s the best man she’ll ever get - and, more than that, because she knows she’s either with him or against him. And if she ever went against him… Then it’d be her man lying half-dead on the concrete, and she’d become the only girl he didn’t let run away.
She’s a good’un, as his brother says, fuckable.
It pisses Haizaki off though, when his brother says that. Cause, why the fuck would his own flesh and blood be thinking about fucking you, Shougo’s girl? His brother laughs when he gets pissed, partially because they have the same dad - neither can stay away from a fight to save their lives - and partially because they both know it’s not entirely his brother’s fault. It’s yours.
Haizaki will never forget that one evening where he got home after a long day’s work doing nothing at all, and it turned out that you had come over to surprise him. Your presence certainly had been a surprise. Especially the way you were letting his brother pin you against the wall, pressing his body into yours. And you weren’t even really pushing him away. Oh, the way you asked Haizaki not to get angry, claimed innocence, and yet begged him to forgive you in the same breath. What was there to forgive if you hadn’t been leading his brother on?
Rushing to Haizaki’s side, hiding behind his back from his brother, you said you would never dream of betraying him, swearing on your life.
“I didn’t realise it was just him here,” you whispered, “I thought your mother would be home too. You know how I hate being alone with him.”
But how could you blame his brother, when you were the one in the short skirt who always asked the older Haizaki how his day had been, who smiled so nicely at every fucking man in town? Waiters, the homeless, distant acquaintances: you saw a male and suddenly you were Miss Sweetness herself, with your greetings and pleasantries. Was it such a stretch for Haizaki to assume (know) that you were a whore? You cried out no. You told him you’d never look at another man again if it would make him happy.
With tears in your eyes, you held his hand to your heart and murmured, “please, Shougo, please don’t do this.”
You had a way with words, and your gaze was sincere. Honestly, at this point, Haizaki was starting to forget what he was so mad about. It was only his brother, after all. But that same brother was still in the room grinning, so Haizaki stuck his middle finger up at him, then dragged you to his room by your hair. The sex that evening was better than ever. You didn’t say no to his demands once.
For a while afterwards, you continued being pliant. You agreed with everything he said, until he told you to stop agreeing with him. It got irritating quick. What were you, a fucking puppet? You let him touch you however he liked, until he got bored of the lack of reactions (your previous flinching had been part of the fun). You clung to him like there was no one left in the world, and made sure never to even glance at his brother. But that too was a pain in the neck. Every time he felt like going out, you were there, asking if he wanted you to come too. Except how could he pick up a good-looking chick with you by his side? He’d be a joke. Besides, his mother had started noticing how uncomfortable you appeared around the older Haizaki brother, and Shougo couldn’t be arsed to figure out why you were acting so paranoid, and get her off his case.
“Just fucking ignore him like I do when he’s pissing you off,” he told you one morning, slipping a shirt on, “don’t be such a drama queen. If you don’t lead him on, he won’t bother you.”
There you sat on his bed holding a blanket over your shoulders, shivering nonetheless, “I just don’t trust him. I don’t like being near him. I’d much rather be with you.”
“For fuck’s sake. Just go back to your own house then - and stay there. I’m sick to death of you.”
So you did. And that’s when the real shit started.
First was the issue that Haizaki liked having a chick around, and not having at home in the evenings to make him something to eat and let him kiss you was a drag. For a few days, sure, it was nice not having you around to make things awkward whenever his brother entered the living room. But he even started missing the way you’d blush with fear when the older Haizaki told you how hot you’d look. Plus, the streets weren’t much fun without you either. Gone were the days, he had an excuse to beat up every guy he saw, under the excuse that they were looking at you. There was nothing special anymore. No more tension in the air, as he told them to come with him a minute, as you pulled at his arm and begged him to forget it. The air used to thick with it. Then the first punch, punches, beatings. The orgasm of victory. And your relieved eyes, when he stopped, like the post-sex cigarette. That was all gone now.
Second was the issue that you’d stopped replying to his calls and texts. Now, that was really pissing him off. Your sheer audacity to think you could just ignore him. He may have been the one to initiate this little break of the two of you’s, but that didn’t mean you got to enjoy yourself without him. You were supposed to be the one crying for him to take you back. What was worse was that he didn’t know your address - he’d never had a reason to learn it; he wasn’t a dog at your beck and call. You could have lived anywhere in Shizuoka for all he knew. So he had no way of tracking you down. Reminding you to whom you belonged.
And that was what caused the third issue.
When he found you again.
Maybe he shouldn’t have been surprised that you were with a guy. You were sure surprised to see him though. For a moment, shock mingled with fear crossed your gaze. Then, what must have been forced relief.
“Shougo, thank god.” You rushed over to him and grabbed onto his arm. “this guy hasn’t left me alone for weeks. He knows where I live. He's been stalking me. I’m begging you, Shougo, help me.”
The guy was watching the two of you with slight bemusement, but there was a distinct “why don’t you fuck off, dickhead?” gleaming in his eyes too as he looked at Haizaki. In other words, he was cocky for a man half Haizaki’s height and weight. Hell, Haizaki probably had more muscle in his tongue that this guy had across his whole body. And, yet, here he was, calling your name, telling you that the two of you could discuss this later. Just get back over here. Now.
That was what pissed Haizaki off, ‘cause the man’s words sounded distinctly like his own had, once upon a time. So he dealt with him, just as you had requested. It was the first fight he’d ever been in where you weren’t begging him to stop. You didn’t even flinch when he kicked the guy’s skull. You were just looking up at the night sky with tears in your eyes, as if praying for a better life. Ignoring the fight completely. It was weird how discontent it made Haizaki. Suddenly, the fight was just business. It meant nothing at all. There was no thrill of the hunt. The man was lying unconscious at Haizaki’s feet, and yet Haizaki felt the same itch as he had before it had even started.
Maybe, he wondered, fights weren’t doing it for him anymore. At least, all this fighting with guys. Because what was really pissing him off was how solemn you were about all this. That was what was now getting the tension going in Haizaki’s veins.
As the two of you walked back to his place together, you told Haizaki “everything”. That guy had been into you since middle school. He was one year older, and your tutor for English in middle school until he’d gotten much too comfortable touching you. Then he became a senpai of yours in high school until the day where you realised that, for months, he’d been following you home. That was when you moved to Shizuoka, meeting Haizaki a few months later. You admitted in a shy voice that, originally, you had only dated him for fear that your old tutor would come find you again. You had known that Haizaki could handle him easily. But now, you promised, looking at the ground, you weren’t with Haizaki for such stupid reasons. And you owed him everything. And you would never leave him.
To be frank, Haizaki hadn’t been listening to a single word you were saying.
Haizaki had been more distracted by dealing with the itch, with his fists rammed into his pockets for fear of swinging at you right that second. He’d never hit a girl before. Well… He’d never hit a girl like he meant it. But you were giving him reasons to mean it. Because, sure, some guy had been stalking you - but did you ever wonder why he’d been stalking you in the first place? Middle school. That was young to be flirting already. Shit, it was the whole innocence thing all over again. You were just Little Miss Perfect in a world of bad men, huh?
Was Haizaki a bad man too?
Suddenly, Haizaki turned. He took a step closer to you, looked you up and down, as you grew quiet, realising how the mood had shifted.
“Do you love me?” he asked.
Your eyes went wide.
“Yes.”
“Say it properly.”
“I-“
Perhaps you would have finished that sentence, and told him those three words. But you didn’t and wouldn't for he never gave you the chance. It was one quick jab to the nose, then the other fist came to meet your stomach. You crumpled. Haizaki grabbed you by the collar, feeling your blood trickle onto his hand. He grinned. And threw you into the road. With shaking arms, you tried to get up. He kicked you down again. Really kicked you. Foot going right into your throat. You fell back onto the concrete again. Turned your head to look at him. Eyes flickering open, you opened your mouth as if to speak.
But Haizaki would never know what you wanted to say.
For neither of you had noticed the car speeding towards you, and the driver certainly couldn’t have noticed you, who was dressed in all black, until it was too late. The wheels screeched in a desperate attempt to stop as the bumper of the car slammed right into you. For the second time, you were thrown across the road. It would prove one time too many. For as the driver rushed out of the car and to you, as the driver shook you over and over again, you never once opened your eyes.
“What have I done? What have I done? I’m a murderer!” The man was crying.
The passenger of the car hurried out to hold him, like you would have once held Haizaki. A passerby in the distance ran towards the scene, yelling that he was calling an ambulance, was everything okay?
And Haizaki just stood there.
He thought of your open mouth. Of how, when the ambulance came, he’d have to explain what had happened. He’d have to stay with your body for however long it took to make sure people saw him as a conscientious boyfriend and thought of your injuries as inflicted by the car only. The police might be involved too. How many hours would it take to get everything sorted? Ah, shit, the corner store would be shut by the time he got home. He could really use a beer right about now. You had always been so good at pouring beers. It was about the only thing you’d ever done right. And now your eyes were shut for good. You’d never even fucking told him you loved him. You were the only one who might have said it, even if you wouldn’t have meant it. You’d brought him so many problems. Betrayed him so many times.
But at least he’d had someone when he had you.
(Haizaki hadn’t realised it, but tears were beginning to trickle down his cheeks.)

I honestly find it ironic that Haizaki's Pillage is compared to Kise's Copying, and labelled as an individual ability.
It is but only partially.
Pillage is a very much team-oriented skill, but very personal in execution. He doesn't need Kagami to shift the attention on him, or Kuroko to give pass, etc. Pillage is, like Kise's copy, a testament to their individual skills as players. But copying moves makes Kise stronger, and thus his team too. While Pillage makes Haizaki and his team stronger as well, but also makes opposing team weaker. By slowly pillaging moves from the opposing team Haizaki strips them of their strengths, making his team stronger. That is the difference, and it's very ironic that nobody picks up on that simply because Shougo isn't all buddy-buddy with his teammates.
You can even see it in the Kaijo vs Fukuda game, where Shougo pillages Kasamatsu's drive, and Yukio is then stopped by Fukuda's captain Ishida.
Pillage is absolutely bonkers in terms of strength, and no wonder Fujimaki had to nerf Haizadick and prevent him from using his ability against fellow Kiseki, otherwise, his team would most likely won.
