Some Basketball Videography And A Conversation We Need To Have About Content And It's Purpose

A brief documentation and dissection of some of the basketball videos I've shot

I think it's important to establish that when you shoot/film/produce or create a video, you have to understand that different types of content exists for different purposes.

This is a matter of understanding, applied/functional art vs actual art, and understanding the difference between filmaking, videography ad content creation.

For instance, I can shoot footage for a professional sports team and because the footage will be used for strategic/game preparation purposes, the aesthetics, like the lighting, the angle, motion and camera movement will be far less important, and it's more important that you can see the whole field and can capture the action with no breaks, pauses or cuts.

This type of videography is something you will only ever be able to present to people in the sports field.

Once you start talking about content for the sake of the actual aesthetics or even storytelling, all the above stated artistics inputs, becomes priority, and this changes even more if you're shooting the content for the purpose of marketing or sales.

Just a thing that I thinks needs spoken about more, and even if you don't specialize, at the very least, one should always know why they are shooting something.

The first basketball videos I shot, were not organized competition, and was more informal in setting, but it was cool because I got to move around all over, pick my angles and lenses, and then put it in to post production with filters and music I like.

Nowadays, I may try to use less music because I don't think Instagram's algorithm likes it when you use other artist's work. Later I would make these reels but for other sports like the one you see below.

While I have mainly shot photographs both for the above shown Tennis tournament, as well as the Tshwane Baksetball Association, I always managed to get a healthy amount of video footage from each day''s shoot, and once I started editing these for the sake of putting them on social media, that is when they became content, and not visual art, and let me explain.

Yes, I have a healthy amount of creative input and I get to choose a lot of what is captured on screen as far as angles and camera positioning and even the subject, but the purpose of this content is to engage with the people I'm capturing on social media.

Now obeserve the difference when I post something like this......

Understand, that from a purely sports broadcasting and even videography perspective, everything I did in the last above video was wrong. Most importantly because I did not track the ball.

However, from a branding/"look at me"/aesthetic point of view, the view does a better job, and note that when I lost track of the ball, I tried to avoid jerking to find it, instead letting the subject/players roll back in to the screen and staying in as tight a zoom as my 70-200mm lense will allow.

I shot that video for it's aesthetic appeal.

Please note that while I can make the choice to shoot something functionally (for the sake of capturing the action) or aesthetically (for the artistic benefits), there are times when the two can have a happy medium as well.

Sometimes content can be visually pleasing, while still creating awareness of the brand, expounding on a brand's core values, and still leaving room for people to engage and enjoy the content, and I think my final video does that.

Y'all actually think Saiki Hates Himself?

I've seen some stuff on the interwebs talking about how saiki believes he is a bad person because he doesn't go and, idk, solve climate change or use his immense power to stop wars or something. I mean, I get where the interpretation comes from. Yk, He does nice things all the time but he is all like "I'm only doing this because I don't like to be in people's debt" or something to justify his behavior. I mean, I guess I'm just a more metanarratively jaded person bc I believe it's the result of a narrative conflict yk. If saiki existed, he would be a bad person because he isn't off trying to make world peace or something, she's just dicking around in some random ass highschool somewhere. But, Saiki doesn't exist, so they don't obey the same moral standards as we do. Saiki is a good person in universe because he acts good in the minuscule sliver of the universe that we observe. Well, this kinda amounts to a question. If a character trait is a result of a meta conflict such as the creator wanting two opposing ideas simultaneously and being force to resolve that (i.e: someone being only marginally short of god not using their power for god scale levels of good, being a good person) is it a trait of the character that should be considered? I mean to paraphrase Jesus Christ Our Lord; "The answer is I didn't think of that and neither should you." If the author as two axioms their work must abides by and they come into conflict, is the emergent property of this a decision itself? When I tell you about about the 9 axioms of mathematics, is this statement considered equivalent to telling you every single possible thing in mathematics? A false equivalence perhaps, but you get the picture.

Perhaps we can say that Saiki has deeply rooted self hatred because the authors attempt to resolve this logical inconsistency is enough of their direct action to be judged. I suppose this comes back to if you read a piece with authorial intent. If a completely culturally unaware machine made this show, I'd be more inclined to consider the character trait of his self hatred with more weight because by virtue of there being no context that that the machine would use to build a story with specific contradictory perimeters that give it a specific texture and identity. Like the reason it did suddenly become about making an ethnostate or eating the rich (Some moral action, I don't care what you consider that to be for the sake of this argument) is because the creators didn't want it to be about that. If it was made by something that couldn't want, it'd be interesting it didn't become about that. TL;DR: I put any value on the fact he hates himself as it is a metanarrative necessity rather that like, a capital "P" and "T" Personality Trait(tm)

AO3 Etiquette -UPDATED

Based on both decent and not so decent replies, I have made some changes to my original post below.

It would seem a whole new kind of AO3 reader/writer is emerging and it is becoming clear not everyone quite understands how the website community works. Here is some basic guidance on how most people expect you to go about using AO3 to keep this a fun community archive that funtions correctly:

As well as likes, kudos is for when the story was interesting enough to make you finish reading. If it sucked or was badly written, you probably left. If you finished it, you liked it - so kudos.

If you really liked it, you should try to comment. It can be long and detailed or a literal keysmash. Writers don't care, we just love comments.

No critisism unless the author has specifically asked or agreed to hear it (so use your notes to say if you want some constructive feedback). Even constructive critisism is a no-no unless an author note tells you it's okay. No, posting it online is not an open invitation for that. Many people write as a fun hobby or a way to cope with, among other things, insecurity and just want to share. Don't ruin that for them. I've seen so many authors just stop writing coz they can't handle the negative emotions the critism brings, and it's only meant to be a fun thing shared for free (pointing out tagging errors is not included in this).

Do not comment to ask the author to write/update something else. It's tacky and off-putting and will probably have the opposite effect than the one you want.

There is no algorithm, it's an archive. Use the search and filter function to add/remove the pairings/characters/tropes etc. you want to read about and it will find you the fics that fit the bill.

For this to work, writers must tag and rate stories. This avoids readers finding the wrong things and missing the stuff they want. I don't care how cringy that trope is in your eyes - it gets tagged.

The tag exception is if you don't want to tag a million things or spoil your story, you can rate it as "chose not to use warnings," and maybe tag the bare minimum.

Don't censor tags. How can someone exclude a tag if the word isn't typed out correctly? There are no content bans for terms so don't censor them.

If the tags are mostly content/trigger warnings, especially if they are things considered very fucked up or graphic, you might want to use "dead dove - do not eat" to ensure people know that you're not messing around with tags and what they get is exactly what you've warned them about.

Character A/Character B means a ROMANTIC or SEXUAL relationship of some kind. Character A&Character B is PLATONIC, like friendship or family.

Nothing is banned. This is an rule because banning one thing is a slipperly slope to banning another and another, until nothing is allowed anymore. Do not expect anyone to censor for you. Because of the tags system, you are responsible for your own reading experience.

People can create new chapters and sequels/fic series any time after they "complete" a story. So it's considered perfectly normal to subscribe, even to a finished story. You can even subscribe to the author instead just to cover your bases.

Do not repost stories or change the publishing date without an extremely good reason (like a complete top to bottom rewrite or an exchange youve written for going public). It's an archive, not social media. No one cares what's the most recent, only what fits their tag needs.

Instead of deleting a story you wrote if you hate it - consider making it anonymous or orphaning it so others can still enjoy it, without it being connected to your name anymore. If you still want to delete it, fair enough.

It's come to my attention that metaworks ARE allowed on AO3, which is something I wasn't aware of. So if you do post an essay or theory, please tag it as such so others can choose to search for it or exclude it. Art is also allowed.

The only reason this archive works is because NON ONE PROFITS. Do not link to your ko-fi or patreon or mention monetary gain in any way or you violate the terms and risk having your account removed. If anyone does link, it leaves the archive open to people claiming it's for profit and having the whole thing removed.

I KNOW there's plenty more I missed but I'm trying to cover most of the basics that people seem to be struggling with.

I invite anyone to add to this, but please explain, don't berate.

BEHOLD! my new TMNT iteration!

tmnt: Strained Eyes

In this iteration, much like rottmnt, all of the turtles have super powers. however, there is a little catch. while the rottmnt turtle's powers suit their soul, Strained Eye's turtles... don't.

(please ignore the fact that Mikey doesnt really look like a spotted pond turtle, i came up with the design first and had to find a turtle species second)

So! Mikeys powers basically allow him to cause every thing he touches to rot/decompose/desintergrate. he does have some control, but not reliably.

And though he is a good cook, there is a 50/50 chance that you will end up eating mouldy/rotten food. but all the other times it will be delicious.

he (obviously) has insecurities about touch, he is very aware that he could very easily kill someone with just one touch.

he can also grow mushrooms on command -he can also grow them on his shell which freaks out his brothers a lot.

also hes not actually blind in one eye! its mostly just cosmetic.

Up next we have Donnie! compared to Mieky hes a very brightly coloured boy!

his power is illusions! they can be incredibly lifelike. the problem is, These illusions can be permanent if Donnie doesnt dispel them, and sometimes are summoned only by his subconscious. So Donnie can struggle with figuring out if something is real or not.

The only senses his illusions cannot mimic are touch and smell (and taste) so he is usually extremely tactile, holding onto his brothers to assure himself that theyre real and not just a projection of his mind. he covers a lot of stuff in his lab (and his brothers) with strong smelling perfumes as well.

application wise- he uses his powers in tandem with his machines to make incredibly realistic looking androids. example: robot cat that looks like real cat. robot dragon that looks like REAL dragon, etc etc. he can also use them to appear human and turn invisible. (he can expand this to all his brothers) but he still hasnt gotten down the art of human expressions, so when ever he appears human he looks quite uncanny when he talks.

It's Leo!!

now Leo is ~battery powered~ his powers basically allow him to absorb energy straight from the source, such as absorbing the electricity off of an electric wire, or even sucking the energy from a person. or eating batteries.

an unfortunate side affect (depending on how you look at it) is that Leo doesnt need to sleep. ever. as long as he keeps absorbing energy then he's completely fine! and the more electricity/energy he absorbs the faster/stronger he gets! he also thinks faster! coming up with excellent strategies on the fly!

however- the same is true of the other way around, when Leo runs out of energy (which he does often- hes VERY bad at judging how much he has left) he will start to get more lethargic, his cognitive funtions will slow down and his short term memory will start to degrade.

If he completly runs out of energy his heart stops and he dies.

but dont worry! you just need to zap him with more energy and hell get right back up again (Donnie has a defibrillator just for Leo). though its best not to leave him in that state for long. because like that he is still functionally a dead body.

And finally we have Raph!

Raph breaths fire. a very simple power, in fact he can even hold his breath for hours apon end and his skin is extremely tough! theres basically no side effects too!

Hes so lucky compared to his brothers, having a power that suits him perfectly and doesnt mess him up in the head.

because of this, Raph has kinda moulded himself into the hyper aggressive mom friend, making sure they dont all run themselves into the ground because of the drawbacks to their powers.

he still has anger issues too <3

Please be kind. This is my first EVER digital art piece, and it's clearly a work in progress. I'm using Krita, and I need to learn about clipping masks and how to stabilise my lines and stuff like that. Funtime Bonnie concept

I came up with a concept for a hypothetical Funtime Bonnie.

Color wise, purple and yellow to match Afton and Spring Bonnie. Specifically made for Afton after he transfers his remnant to said Funtime Bonnie. Like the art bellow ScarletMastermind and ajosterio

Funtime Bonnie's gimmick would be a magician.(mostly because of the family father bot being a magician in Security Breach and also fitting my theory of the Funtimes being the planned vessels of the Aftons.) Funtime Bonnie's funtion is performing magic tricks for the kids with his assistant Helpy. Personality wise he is based off of Afton. Can't think of a blueprint detail, maybe the wand puts the kids under a trance? and I think a gameplay factor could be testing Bonnie's tricks in SL or participating as Bonnie's assistant in Help Wanted 2.

Look I'm not ashamed to admit how I feel about the way they drew Zarya in the New Blood comics

Like it's slightly uncanny compared to how she usually looks (I think it's mostly just the fact her lips are drawn a lot thinner in most panels)

but also

Not going to lie but I feel the same way, but in all honesty I think the reason Zarya feels that way is because she's a very hard character and funtions better in an artsyle that fits that. Zarya thrives in artstyles that have a lot harsher shading and lines art then what New Bloods has;

In contrast here's New Blood;

She fits into the art style of New Blood but the art style just doesn't suit her as a character. Honestly what futher prooves my point is the fact she look good on the cover, which is more detailed;

Honestly the long and short of it is a lot of pinterest LMAO. I definitely started there at least, I don't use it as much nowadays, but it's really helpful to have somewhere where you can just collect a big bank of photos

I also just look at shopping sites a lot! I shamelessly use wishlist funtions as inspiration boards lol. If you can find online stores that sell the sorts of clothes you like, looking at the ways they style their models can get you far 👍 I tend to be looking at K fashion sites bc my personal tastes lean that way

Suddenly going thru it at basically 2am, my world is supposedly ending, and ofc its another personal crisis of i need to get my shit together, in a loser, and that im always running out of time and i will never vatch up to being a regular funtioning being and, also that im.
