This is where the vegetable garden will go. We're gonna do two rows of raised beds, starting at the front by where I'm standing, and expanding backwards as materials and my ability to care for it allow. It's a lot of space!
I'm starting by solarizing a section big enough to put three beds (that's what the plastic is for) and hope to have them built and filled and planted for fall crops. Garlic, at least, but I bet I can get some quick/hardy greens in there in time.
I bought a few bags of soil to start me off, but I'll be mixing it with the existing sandy soil in the beds, and of course the rabbits make their contribution.

Thrilled to see the hyacinth bulbs I planted in mid-December popping up all around the house. Grape hyacinth, daffs, jonquil, and tulips, too. #springbulbs #garden2019 (at Kent, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/kellyjhambly/p/Bv7SPcvnUOm/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1f47g3scho9zn

Stage 3, I don't get pics of stage 1 and 2 and there's like 10 stages so...the front bed is about to burst with color in about 3 weeks. Looks like weeds, but it ain't weeds. #garden2019 #futurehorticulturist #urbangarden https://www.instagram.com/p/B0HqRWKhCsS/?igshid=d7lucinxo2yy

Planting Planning 2019
Things are happening!
I now have my grow shelf set up: the only bit that isn’t ready now is the front flap to keep us from blinding ourselves with the grow lights. We have four 5000K (daylight) LED bulbs, putting out 800 lumens each, surrounded by reflective walls, plus a Jiffy heat mat. 18 square cups in three trays, each cup being about 3” across so I won’t have to pot anything up. I’ll be starting three pots each this weekend of bell peppers (Early California Wonder), tomatillos (Tomayo), and cucamelons. I’m contemplating whether to start my Summer Dance cucumbers at the same time or wait another couple of weeks to get them underway.
Still checking some of my planting dates. And I feel like I’ve forgotten something, but that’s fine — I’m going to finish my research on planting dates and update this post in a bit.
Going to winter-sow some calendula using plastic bakery boxes this week. It rained today and the snow is starting to let go a little bit.
Beans, peas, and nasturtiums go in directly whenever the ground is ready, which could be any time from mid-April to mid-May, depending on the thaw rate.
Pumpkins get started indoors in mid-May. Okra gets direct-sown around the same time
I also need to look into the utility of spiral stakes for making arches out of wire fencing.
I’ll try to add a pic of the grow shelf, too.

The autumn garden is starting to produce -just in time for 30f nights in a week lol. 8-ball zucchini and oregon giant snow peas so far. With these consistent 80f days this summer and now into autumn, the tomatoes keep producing small flushes of fruit, but at this rate they won't ripen before cold temps get them. Not shown, but the peppers are still producing as well, though slowly. Probably my inconsistent watering. When I get my own place, I'll have to install some kind of irrigation.
On another note, I've been getting into seed swaps lately and decided to test germination on the tomato seeds I saved from my dark purple experimental volunteer tomato. 100% germination! This is my first time saving tomato seeds, and I'm happy I did so properly!

Garden log
I barely have a garden this year, but today I planted two blueberry bushes and one goji berry in the front yard. North side, east of the wooded area. It's not the ideal time of year to be planting them, but free fruit bushes are free fruit bushes.
Both blueberries are probably Climax (though inconclusively labeled), so we'll need pollenizers. Premier, Columbus, Onslow, and Powderblue appear to be recommended for this area (all rabbiteye varieties).
I haven't tested the soil, but it's safe to assume pH is around 5-5.5. Even if it's a little high, pine mulch will help - I'll rake some pinestraw out of the woods there. Drainage in the area is good, afaik. Our whole lot is oddly sandy, and it certainly soaked up the water quickly while I planted.
The gojiberry apparently wants a more nuetral pH, which is too bad for it. I could amend over there? But I think I'll see how it does. It seems to be pretty unkillable, and the local friend I got it from grows hers in the standard red clay.

Extended the Rose Of Sharon plot so I could plant some Crocus and Grape Hyacinth.
And re-arranged the front plot for the last time.
First set of 2 photos is the plot this summer, yuck. Wtf.
Second set: digging out all the plants! Probably 120 + plants! :O gave away SO many to a friend. :)
Last set: all finished rearranging and mulching!
Plot goes, Solomans Seal, Orange Day Lily, Large Yellow Lily, Small Yellow Lily, Medium Purple Lily, Iris, Daffodil , big bang boom Allium, Tulip bulbs in the middle, Daliah , Stone Crop Sedum, and Hostas.. I believe thats it.. 😆 oh, and I skattered 3 varieties of Cone Flowers different from mine. Really hope they germinate. Omg. I want come flowers all over.
