Imagine being Katara.Your whole life since you were 4,you were parentified because your mom died and when you became a t(w)een, you met a guy who gives you freedom and that's when you get to do the direct action and activism you've been wanting to for years and reclaiming girlhood for yourself by being feminine with a hidden softness but beyond tough as all fuck not just attitude wise but also in your battle tactics and prowess and you only stop going out on the field because you got too old but even then you end up as a teacher to the younger generations of your people. All that, just to be remembered as the girl who ended up with the wrong guy because you choose the one who was your best friend instead of the edgelord who you said and proved you hated countless times and treated like your brother after he made things up to you because they didn't buy you were a real girl otherwise.Forget being on the news bruh,i'd be on multiple goverment watchlists

‼️🇲🇽 American tourists in Mexico try to shut down restaurant in Jalisco because Mariachi music is “too loud”
🔸 Source: Fernanda Cortes
Jalisco is the birthplace of Mariachis, and their music has been around since the 17th century… y’all don’t get to come over and get rid of it 😭
If you’re a tourist in Mexico (and ANY other place) for god’s sake remember that you’re a TOURIST. You’re VISITING. You don’t get to come here and try to shut down restaurants and bandas because they annoyed you on your two week trip with the family.
If you’re coming to the culture you’ll find the culture, in case that isn’t obvious. If you’re really that annoyed by it, go to Cancún and Cabo San Lucas, as the video said. Or just stay home.

My local queer bookstore is being threatened with eviction over their free narcan and fentanyl test strips, free store for the unhoused, and free narcan trainings.
Bluestockings is an incredible worker-owned community space that has been apart of the Lower East Side for 25 years. But in the last couple years, they've faced increasing harassment from the wealthier neighbors moving in and complaining about the presence of unhoused people around their store front. Despite all their community work being allowed by their lease, the landlord is pushing for an eviction.
Please help support Bluestockings! Visit them (if you're local), order books online, donate! We need more queer and community-oriented spaces, not another overpriced coffee shop or chain franchise.

not to harp back to a few days ago but the whole "taking phone calls in public/loud music in public/playing music and videos outloud in public is rude etc. (the list could go on)" argument is not only absurd,
(not all public spaces are going to be silent its is unrealistic, outside cannot cater to every single person as everybody has different needs, but this is not me dismissing there are concerns for people who may have sensory 'issues' or may be bothered by loud sounds)
but has ties to racism and classism, especially considering that many nonblack and white people call the police about "noise complaints" on black and brown people and poor people because the music being played at a party is 'too loud' or music from a car is being played 'too loud', which leads to them getting arrested or killed.
It also has links to gentrification, it is known that people who do complain about a community being too loud are clearly not familiar with the cultures in that area and that loud noise being a nuisance is a clear sign you are coming into a culture that isn't yours
anyway i think some of you need to read the article linked because the influx of these types of arguments is concerning.

Xavier Olivé is the last person renting a flat in a building in the Eixample [neighbourhood of Barcelona, Catalonia], after a Dutch company has bought the whole building. He denounces that the owners have expelled all the neighbours who always lived here and now all the other flats are touristic or luxury apartments.
Despite being saddened by the situation and fearing they might expel him as well, he is decided to resist because he doesn't want to leave.
By Barcelona TV. English subtitles added by me.
Sadly, this is a common story in Barcelona and other cities and towns affected by touristic massification.
We urgently need laws that regulate housing so that locals aren't massively expelled to make room for tourists or second homes for rich foreigners, and to stop vulture funds from buying up huge amounts of property to raise the prices. But right now, as a tourist, the most important thing you can do to stop kicking people out of their homes is easy: NEVER, NEVER STAY AT AN AIRBNB, AN UNCONTROLLED TOURISTIC APARTMENT, OR SIMILAR. Always stay at certified hotels (or, of course, with friends and family if you have them there).
If you rent an apartment that is being marketed to tourists where there's a housing crisis for locals, or an Airbnb anywhere, you're effectively destroying the local community.

Colonization never really stop it only takes on new faces because who you come to a country to live and you do not adapt to its customs and way of living? worse if you only come to visit and learn? The point of tourism is to get to know new cultures but instead you want to come and have your life be the same as in the United States and that we locals have to adapt (in Mexico the gringos began to complain about the noise that the sellers make in the streets that are why they don't buy local and in Mazatlan together with the help of businessmen they want to ban the bands of cultural expressions that have been part of our country for decades just because that bothers them but if we Mexicans go to the USA and want to speak a litle of Spanish we get crucified)

Over the past 32 years, painter Frances Foster has seen the view from her studio window shift from old railway yards and rundown factories to trendy businesses, new residents and high-end cars. Inside, however, feels empty. Foster was once one of more than a dozen artists working in the former industrial building. Today, she's one of two left, after narrowly surviving an eviction attempt that led to all the others leaving over the past three years. The owners dropped their case to evict her last year "because they had achieved their goal of evicting the majority of the artists, some of whom had been living in the building for 20-plus years," she said. Montreal, which was named a UNESCO city of design in 2006, has long been known as a haven for artists, thanks to its vibrant culture scene and rock-bottom rents. But as rents rise and former industrial neighbourhoods are redeveloped, some artists are being priced out or evicted as the community searches for creative solutions.

“For the people saying they’re just hanging out with their friends: in Hollywood, as in most other circles, people who look like them hold the majority of the wealth, power, and status. The same people left out of their social networks are left out professionally too. That matters.”
“I’m sure Jennifer Aniston didn’t cook all this food, take care of all this property, and clean this whole house. Yeah, they won’t show you the people that actually do the work to make their lives comfortable.”
