Rose was overjoyed to see that Garnet was alive and well. In fact, from what she could see adorning the gem’s fingers on either hand; better than ever before! Her hands squeezed together in her excitement, a quiet exclamation of joy escaping the large gem. So much so that she had entirely forgotten the shock that may come from, well, a long-dead gem standing here in front of the fusion.

“Wait, what?? Garnet?!”

Okay, Ruby officially had no idea what was going on. Her alone time from Sapphire wasn’t supposed to lead to her somehow stumbling upon... herself? Herself within her and Sapphire’s fusion? Ruby was trying not to get herself too worked up in that moment. There was no reason to set anything on fire. Still, she was more than a little freaked out.

“What’s going on?” Ruby asked. “We can’t both be here, can we??” ‘No’ was the answer to that, at least in Ruby’s head. She would just... have to see what Garnet said.

Countless years had passed since Blue Pearl had last been on Earth, something she greatly appreciated considering all of the memories the planet held. It seemed though that with Steven’s conversion of the Diamonds that a journey to Earth would be inevitable as the Diamond’s would see it necessary for their Pearls to “experience” Earth. In Blue Pearl’s opinion she had “experienced” the Earth for the last six thousand years in the form of Blue Diamond’s terrible grief. Like always though she did as she was told, no questions and certainly no hesitation.

Blue Pearl chose to arrive to Beach city early at night considering how the sun always disturbed her sensitive eyes -and the fact that she simply didn’t want to run into any Humans-. While Blue Diamond was most likely expecting her Pearl to visit and get acquainted, Blue Pearl instead found her way to the pier were the noises of the crickets and other insects was the quietest, and sat down on a bench. She closed her eyes and drowned out the chirping of the crickets and listened intently to the waves as they crashed upon the beach, finding a strange harmony in the sound.

When Blue Pearl opened her eyes once more, she noticed something in her periphery. Turning her head slightly to see what it was she caught a glimpse of the Fusion she had first met all those terrible years ago. Blue Pearl slowly turned back to face the waves again, her head facing downwards and away from Garnet.

Spinel kicked yet another shell that had unfortunately found its way in her war path, causing yet another giant splash in the ocean beside her. What number was that? Thirty? Not that she had the mental capacity to keep check of that right now. “ Oh, meh-meh-MEH. It’s okay Spinel, my buddy, my chump, you’ll find ‘ someone ‘. ” Her voice cracked under the poorly executed impression. “ What a load’a CRAP !! ” If it was thirty, there went thirty-one as her foot slammed with persecution against an innocent conch. 

It had been a few weeks since she had found herself back on earth after her failed attempt at friendship; no, no, at the DIAMONDS failed attempt at friendship — no blame for her ! She kept trying to find things to distract herself ( pranking the local humans was fun ) but the same topic kept swirling, swirling in her head — the vortex sucking her in, DROWNING her.

Why wasn’t she good enough, why wasn’t she good enough, why could she NEVER be GOOD ENOUGH ???? “ I’m so STUPID. I should’a known going to the Diamonds to help me with my issues for a DIAMOND would be- ” 

Her eyes locked with visors and reality came back into focus.

“Who I am... right now..?”

With the Gem empire no longer expanding and colonies no longer being built... There would no longer be a need for a gem like Emery. How could she oversee the construction of great Diamond monuments if there weren’t to be any MORE? There was nothing left to polish. 

But none of that was really who Emery WAS, was it? That was just what she was told to do... What did she enjoy doing? What would she have time for now? What would be her destiny now that she was free to choose it?

A small, hesitant yet hopeful smile curled her lips as she looked up at the tall fusion. “... Who am I right now... would really like to build a snowman.”

“So that was your first form, huh?”

“I gotta admit, and I hope you don’t mind my saying this, you were really cute in that form,” Greg told her. Things had quieted down significantly since Spinel had left Earth. Reconstruction and healing the Earth had gone about as smoothly as could be expected, and Greg had found a spare moment to just talk to the Gems. Garnet was who he’d wanted to speak with first. She’d looked like she was taking a small break, so it felt natural.

“I mean... I had no idea you started out so innocent,” he admitted. “And I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Everyone’s gotta start somewhere. But ah... I guess I’m kinda rambling, huh?” He laughed a little bit. Hopefully this wasn’t too awkward of a conversation to have started.
