Day 9 - What is the worst thing about studyblr in your opinion?

Classism. Popular blogs are the ones with $$$ (fancy pens + fancy tech + enough time to make pretty notes etc) which isn’t v sexy and sends a detrimental message to the younger members, as well as unintentionally pushing students to make pretty notes which could be an ineffective method and essentially a waste of time. 

Day 10 - What is one thing you wished you could change about studyblr?

Wish people would give more rep to studyblr’s that aren’t traditionally aesthetic 

Day 11 - What is something that you have learnt from studyblr?

How to chill out a little (does that i mean i chill out tho? no)

This is so late and I’m not going to put all the ones I’ve missed for the summer studying challenge into one post because that’ll be far too long!

I had been reading a lot but I haven’t so much in the past month or so :(

Oliver twist and the ballad of songbirds and snakes (in dutch for the meme)

|F| 7th August: What is your favourite summer ‘beach read’ book?

Hmm. I’m not sure, I don’t ?? read at beaches. Nah uh I think my holiday reads are usually in the fantasy/sci fi land so probably the inheritance cycle or field one (and the rest of the books in the series even tho I’ve only read the first 3)

One Piece! I’m on episode 163 as of this post

|S| 9th August: What was the last movie you watched?

The Old Guard! I enjoyed it, it was entertaining but the open ended finish and lack of a good plot was a bit :// It was nice seeing two main characters be gay and in love without one of them dying needlessly too.

Y’alll the fact that my IB results are out and I’m officially done with the IB is such a relief! I do feel a bit bad though because whilst my results were good, I know a lot of people suffered due to the use of an algorithm. 

But yeah, graduation tomorrow and then I’ll be done with my school as well, I can’t wait to finally end that chapter of my life. Then I can finally deal with the stresses of University admissions because everything’s been delayed due to covid :/

I mean,,, not prepared at all, I’m still working on moving out (as u can see in the above pic, all my to-dos are about packing) and then maybe I’ll mentally prepare myself for uni lol

Fast, boring, conflicted

The world situation really drilled into me that you can’t rlly predict how anything will go.

Okay y’all I’ve had this laptop for a couple weeks now and I’m figuring out notes on onenote, I highkey loved this because I was rewriting/condensing notes from my Actual Notebook.

Cold coffee! I’m not sure if this is rlly a summertime drink but I never rlly have it during colder months.

I love both, daytime for work productivity but night time for outdoor fun. This year it’s more daytime bc we’ve had no holiday

W climate change? Shorter lmao, these heatwaves are not the vibe

|W| 19th August How does summer feel in your region?

Usually they’re pretty mild, maybe one or two days in the 30C region then we stay in the mid to high 20s. This year we had around a week and a half to two weeks of heat wave, where we were consistently in the 30s. The issue is that the houses are designed to retain heat so it felt like we were in the tropics + insulating houses which ,,, Yikes

|T| 20th August  If you could make up a new ice cream flavour, what ingredients would you use? What would you call it?

Forest fruit w ur av forest fruits (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries). Is. Is that alrdy a thing? It sounds like it’s already a thing

Not me doing another challenge,,, I’m hoping it’ll keep me motivated to keep me studying because it’s been a while since I’ve done any hardcore school work. This time I’ll do it daily (or try to)! 

Day 1 || Introduce yourself and tell us what you study! 

I’m Hal! I just turned 18 (can I still say that, it’s been 2 weeks now) and I study veterinary medicine! Currently in my 1st bachelor for vet med and I started on monday. Kind of a trip because the amount of content they expect us to self study ,,,, All Of Osteology. They Want us to learn All the bones on our own 😭 but that’s how it is, especially during covid, so I’ll make the most of it!

21st August - If there was a tropical island made just for you, what would you find on it?

Probably some horses

22nd August -  Imagine that you could fill a swimming pool with anything except water and swim in it. What would your pool be filled with?

Always wanted to see how swimming in jelly would go (I know it wouldn’t rlly Go but cloudy w a chance of meatballs did a number on me)

23rd August - Do you miss school/university/work during the summer?

Absolutelyyyyy. I’ve been studying for this placement exam but it’s :/ just revising the content I’ve learned over the last two years and I’m bored! I miss learning new things. 

24th August - Do you like wearing sunglasses?

Yeah but I have to put contacts in for them so I rarely do - I was thinking of using contacts more in uni but we’ll see. 

25th August - Do you wear sunscreen?

Yep, on my face under my moisturiser as like, ,, a preventative measure for sun damage, I don’t rlly wear it anywhere else, I don’t ever burn

26th August - Have you ever been really badly sunburnt?

Nope, not even mildly

27th August - Do your sleeping habits change during summer?

Yeah, it overall gets healthier, funnily enough. It was often school pushing me to sleep past 1am (though that was my own fault, I’d procrastinate in the day then get forced to work til later to meet deadlines). I’ve gotten more disciplined lately and make sure I get all my work done before dinner so by 18:30 I’m all done, meaning I close all my devices around 11-11:30 then sleep by 12. I’m hoping to keep that in uni but we’ll see how the workload goes :P

Summer studying challenge: Week 1 (I know I already did the first two days but I’m doing it weekly now)

15th July: Do you have a specific goal for this summer?

Idk, I had a goal to finish my blanket and I completed that. This summer has felt quite aimless because of how everything’s gone down 🤷‍♀️ I guess right now it’s to get my sleep schedule to a point where I wake up at 7am and to eat a proper breakfast everyday. 

16th July: Do you have a lot of work to do for school or university or your job this summer?

I need to study for an exam but that’s about it in regards to academics.

17th July: What is the most important task that you need to complete this summer?

Finalise my enrolment and deal with moving out. My mum’s been walking me through her cooking, pushing me to work with her in the kitchen, uhh my dad’s gonna deal finances and then we need to head to where my uni is to see what things are like there, etc 

18th July: What do you usually do during the summer?

Well, when I was younger it’d be a holiday and with the family for a few weeks, then I got to DP and it’d be a shorter holiday + studying at the end to prep for the new year. Last year’s holiday was a colossal mess, with a mountain of tasks I needed to get done for university applications and school. My point is that my summer holiday routine is constantly changing because it depended so heavily on school for the last couple years. 

19th July - What did you do during the summer when you were a young child?

I’d spend my time at home (so like .. before and after we went on holiday) reading, drawing, painting and the like. We’d usually go shopping to get new clothes, which I needed a LOT because yk that age where you’re constantly growing.

Okay so I’m gonna try do the summer study challenge - I’m only gonna post the questions on a weekly basis at a Minimum, I might do more frequently but I doubt it😅

Summer studying challenge (days 1 and 2)

13th July -  What are your plans for this summer?

Right now to finish up my enrolment for uni and to prepare for the calibration exam they have (it’s basically to see how I am in chem/physics/maths, if I do poorly in any then I’ll get extra tutoring in that subject). Uhh I need to head down to the uni itself to check out the accommodation and I need to get things sorted for moving out! 

14th July - Have your plans changed at all because of the pandemic?

Ooooh yeah definitely. We were planning a long, month long holiday because it’d finally be all three of us (my siblings and I) done with schooling - them done with uni and me done with highschool, but we couldn’t do that :(. I was also planning on volunteering at the rabbit shelter again and do kickboxing twice a week but both of those are put on hold too rip

Yeah, yeah I did a horizon zero dawn themed july, the ps5 announcements had me hyped and when I saw Horizon: Forbidden West i went a little nuts (smthn about a woolly mammoth machine rlly just pushed the green button for serotonin and dopamine). Also I realise the layout is super static, I should’ve changed the angles or something but it’s too late I’m posting it like this lmao

Y’all I swear this phone takes the pictures so much better than my old one, I love it (and yet I feel like the quality is still pretty piss-poor because of tumblr but I’m not sure). And yeah yeah yeah I’m super late w the june post but I just ... Didn’t feel like posting at all, things were really weird for a while with exams being cancelled and everything that happened after that in the world.

I’m working on finalising my place in uni, enrolments will be in september I’m assuming, and I’ve been given direct admission so fingers crossed it all works out. In other life updates (or really it’s just more school talk), my diploma and everything’s released on the 5th of July, so I’ll be heading down to school to pick that up. 8th of July I graduate (split our year group into 4 so we can socially distance and graduate, which feels like it makes graduation a bit.. redundant bc I’ll only see 50 other students instead of the whole 180 others but at least it’s something), 14th of July they’re doing some online graduation as well. 

I hope everyone out there is staying safe - in regards to both protests and pandemic.

Lmao so my habits have been decent so far but my sports are ,,, few and far between bc the first half of this month was mocks. Also super close to the splits and so the stretching’s paying off!!

School had a fire yesterday so I only had an hour of class and it’s all cancelled today so my mid-term break has started a little early😊. This week’s been rlly tiring because we had to dive headfirst back into work right after exams, so you could see how dead everyone was in class lmao, it was all blank stares and muted responses. Hopefully we’ll bounce back after a week off, even tho it’s more a study leave than a holiday.

I had like three massive meltdowns this week but I got a 6 on my chem test which is aight, my grades this year have all been 6/7′s, which is a point higher than last year. 

I’ve been Awful with keeping to my stretching routine, like it’s actually awful and I’m kinda disappointed so I’m gonna use that negativity to fuel me actually doing. Also! Mock IOC is done, chem and maths tests done, all I have for the coming week is bio and dutch (bio’s gonna kill me tho bc there’s so much to learn for topic 3&10).

No more IA’s no more ia’s no more ia’s no more ia’s! Submitted my final one (chemistry) last night, and now the last written task I have left is the tok essay. But I can finally put my total focus on exams and revision, which takes so much pressure off my shoulders. 

Speaking of exams, I’m actually good at maths and physics, I’m just very bad at working under pressure. Totally improving now though, and I reckon I’ll be all okay for mock exams!
