✨ a film for every year of my life ✨ | The Commitments (1991) dir. Alan Parker
Soul is the music that people understand. Sure it's basic and it's simple, but it's something else, something special. ‘Cause it's honest, that's it. It’s honest. There's no fucking bullshit. It sticks its neck out and says it straight from the heart. Sure there's a lot of different music you can get off on but soul is more than that. It takes you somewhere else. It grabs you by the balls and lifts you above the shite.
It’s amusing, really. Here I am, figuring out how to finish my Italian citizenship, so I can live in Ireland. I imagine my Irish and Italian ancestors, wherever they are, having a good, spirited tussle over it. In my 30s, I’ll spend my mornings with poetry and coffee, strong and clear. My afternoons, walking, searching for fairies and leprechauns, the myth, the magic of it all. And my evenings, slowly with whiskey, listening to the honest pitter-patter of rain out my window.
it recently occurred to me that a lot of other people might be interested in this, so here is an *audio-only* bootleg of ONCE starring heath saunders and julie benko, at the hangar theatre on july 9, 2021.
it was an outdoor venue next to a pond, so disclaimer there's a lot of extraneous noise like wind through the trees, birds, and quite a lot of frogs.
i'm literally never on tumblr anymore, i only came on to share this, but if the link ever stops working please send me a message and i WILL get to it, eventually.
