February 2024 Important Dates

AKA my notes on The Astrology Podcast's February forecast.

January recap: With Pluto now in Aquarius we've got new technological developments: "flying taxis" going to market, Google's new AI set to release around Jupiter in Gemini, and the first commercially available see-through LED screens. In Saturn-Neptune news, Apple's new VR operating system is being advertised as "spatial computing." Aquarius loves to experiment for the joy of discovery--even if society ends up rejecting some of these new projects. Austin points out many prophetic "near future" fiction stories came out under Jupiter-Saturn in Libra in the 1980s, which was a preview of those conjunctions occurring in air signs for the next 200 years (we had the last earth ones a few years ago). Saturn-Neptune also connotes widespread political misinformation (as it did in 2016)--we've got AI deepfake videos of political figures being used not just for humor, but also to try and sway voters in the New Hampshire Primary. Another notable Saturn in Pisces story is the restriction of the Red Sea trade route and subsequent rerouting of cargo ships along global trade routes. The Mars-Saturn conjunction in Pisces in March will likely show major developments in maritime combat or disasters.

We enter the month fresh off Pluto's ingress into Aquarius. There's a lot of energy in the sign this month, some good and some difficult. The faster-moving planets will be joining Pluto in Aquarius specifically for the first time since the 18th century, giving us the first tastes of what the next 20 years will bring for society at large. For personal charts, what house does Aquarius fall in?

February 5th - Mercury enters Aquarius, conjoins Pluto This is the first planet to join the Sun and Pluto in Aquarius. Venus and Mars will follow this ingress-conjunction pattern later this month--and the new Moon is in Aquarius. Mercury-Pluto brings up information and power such as classified document leaks, as well as hidden pathways or getting lost in the labyrinth. Determined efforts to delve into deeper truths can pay off, but we can also become obsessed with something no one else can see. Other significations include taboo subjects, with science and social rules being especially important in Aquarius, and negating ideas we once thought were true. Paranoia and manipulations also abound with Pluto-Mercury. In Aquarius we'll see these issues take light especially through new technologies. In general Pluto magnifies small things to their biggest extremes--something microscopic may change society irrevocably, etc. The PRC has a timed chart with Aquarius rising with the Moon in Aquarius, and indeed has been leading the world in uses & development of certain new technologies, which in turn has brought power struggles with other major players in those fields.

February 6th - Fortunate date (not pictured)

Set at about 8:00AM local time, this chart should give you 11° Pisces rising. The Ascendant ruler Jupiter is in the 3rd house in a day chart, emphasizing communication and other 3rd house topics. The Moon in early Capricorn applies to a trine with Jupiter, bonifying her. The Jupiter-Saturn sextile is emphasized here; while Saturn is very close to the Ascendant, he's more cooperative in a day chart, and is being received by Jupiter (is in Jupiter's sign), who he's trining. Thus Chris predicts it'll be a good balance of consolidation and growth. This does have Mars in the 11th house in a day chart, so it's not great for matters involving friends, groups, and alliances. But it is good for communicating, neighborhood, education/learning, weekly schedule, siblings, and starting a daily practice (Saturn will help us establish routines).

February 9th - Aquarius New Moon

At 20° of Aquarius, the closest configuration is a square from Uranus (19♉), connoting a disruptive or unexpected component. This is also the first Aquarius New Moon with Pluto present--Pluto will be weighing in on all monthly meetings in Aquarius for now. We can expect concerns around independence and freedom, but also emotional volatility. "How do I break from this pattern?" asks the rebel, knowing it'll be better than keeping things as they are. Mercury also applies to a square with a Jupiter during this time, expanding communications & bringing (possibly excessive) optimism. The Jupiter-Saturn sextile that hung over much of January weighs in as well, balancing our drives for both growth and consolidation.

February - 12th/13th Mars enters Aquarius Soon after he conjoins Pluto.

February 14th - Mars conjunct Pluto This is the first hard aspect since the square circa October 7th. There are going to be about 10 of these conjunctions during Pluto's trip through Aquarius. Mars connotes military operations, while Pluto brings underground groups and struggles. We've been having power dynamics stirred up in the Capricorn parts of our charts the past 20 years, and now this moves to our Aquarius house/area of life. Possessiveness and excessive force are also connoted by this planetary combination; exercise caution and take special care not to go too far. Austin describes this feeling as a "struggle against annihilation," even when we're not actually fighting for our lives. It'll take self-control and grace to navigate this Valentine's day well.

February 16th - Venus enters Aquarius Soon after she will conjoin Pluto, and later Mars.

February 17th - Venus conjunct Pluto The intensity, obsessions, and making mountains of molehills brought up by other planets' Pluto contacts will now show itself in the realm of relationships and social interactions. We get the extremes of affection and its negation with Venus-Pluto. This can be a good time for experimenting in the arts: we're getting a new movie based off Frankenstein, which was published under Pluto in Aquarius. Much of the novel is from the perspective of no the doctor but his experiment--when are we our own lab rats?

February 18th - Sun enters Pisces

February 22nd - Venus conjunct Mars Unfortunately Mars, Aquarius, and Pluto do not bode well for Valentine's-adjacent activities. Some positive connotations include magnetic allure and deep, passionate connections with others, extreme vulnerability and devotion. However, keep watchful for power struggles and manipulation in relationships and attraction. Ask yourself, "is this healthy or is this too far?" and try to set healthy boundaries. (Though the answers may be clearer in hindsight.) Look out for hastiness in relationships, jealous and aggression in love, or attraction to drama or conflict. Try to balance passion with reason, communicate clearly, and express that energy through creative outlets.

February 23rd - Mercury enters Pisces

February 24th - Virgo Full Moon

Immediately after its exact opposition to Saturn, the Moon applies to one with Saturn, who as a matter of course is also applying to Saturn by conjunction (pictured above is the Moon between these oppositions). Austin describes this as a magnified check-in with Saturn, as we're approaching the 1-year mark for Saturn in Pisces (early March). How have you been bearing having to swim with weights on? Or maybe you've hooked something powerful on your fishing line--how will you reel it in? Chris says this lunation highlights tension in the Virgo part of our charts as well, shedding light that may help us identify solutions. We have a Sun-Mercury-Saturn conjunction a few days later that will bring our attention back to Pisces.

February 26th/27th - Mars square Jupiter Jupiter wants to help, but something's getting in his way. We can also think about taking risks, leaving our comfort zone, and increased energy/enthusiasm. However, as Mars is overcoming Jupiter (earlier in the zodiac), traditional sources would indicate that the warlike side of things will gain the upper hand over peaceful Jupiter. Mars in Aquarius connotes rogue or outsider forces, while Jupiter is privileged by stability in Taurus. Keep a lookout for global trade points and major conflicts, which will likely see developments around this time. Some positives of Mars-Jupiter include increased motivation, taking bold actions, and meeting ambitious goals. On the flipside is impulsiveness, overconfidence, and recklessness. Mars-Jupiter is willing to take a risk. Sometimes, it's better not to know exactly what you're getting into so you don't get overwhelmed by a monumental task; other times, it doesn't work out. This is the placement of the intrepid explorer.

February 28th - Moon, Mercury, and Saturn conjunction in Pisces This occurs at 9 degrees of Pisces, and each planet applies to a sextile with Pisces in the following days. Jupiter brings us another management check-in after Saturn's: how have we been balancing growth with consolidation? Jupiter's going to pick up speed and zoom out of Taurus later this year, moving away from this balanced position to a difficult square with Saturn. We've been balancing weight with buoyancy, but once in Gemini Jupiter forms more of helicopter to Saturn's submarine--vehicles that can't be combined. With Saturn and Mercury (and the Sun shedding light), we'll likely see changes in the status of maritime trade and travel. From Saturn to Jupiter we may see something go from being stuck to unstuck.

As we wrap up the month, we've got some Pisces planets approaching Neptune while Jupiter approaches Uranus. And don't forget, we've got 29 days in February this year!

#my posts #video #this didn't capture the sound on OBS for some reason so I had to re-edit the gatsu theme back in #but that is what was playing it was pretty much exactly like that #also what it didn't capture was the sound of wind rushing past your ears as you fall at mach speeds #maybe. I shouldn't have set it to the mode that makes everything feel like you're at normal person height scale #also had to crop this in closer cause I accidentally left my mouse hanging over the options tab the whole time #and it was taking up part of the screen. oops

PROTOTYPE will release Key-developed kinetic novel LUNARiA: Virtualized Moonchild for Switch in 2024 in Japan, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

LUNARiA: Virtualized Moonchild first launched for PC on December 24, 2021 in Japan, followed by iOS via App Store, and Android via Google Play on February 24, 2022.

Here is the story synopsis, via Key:

Skyout is a cutting-edge VR action-battle race. T-bit is not your ordinary high school student. He’s also an undefeated genius gamer. Day in and day out, he logs into Skyout, winning lots of prize money. But one day he ends up wandering into a mysterious area. Lunar World, a Moon server whose existence no one knows about. There T-bit meets an AI avatar who introduces herself as LUNAR-Q. It turns out that she’s a rejected mascot character for the Lunar Surface Development Project, and she dreams of seeing the Earth some day…

Update 10/19/23 at 3:30 a.m.: The official website is live, which confirms that the Switch release will feature both English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese text.

Get to know me better...

I have been tagged by @sallysavestheday and I aim to please. Or, at least answer the call to answer questions. ^_^

Relationship status: Smaug and I have been together since 1997 - according to the Elves, we've been married since 1998, according to the Race of Men, 2000. We're also besties, so that definitely made all the time spent together during the pandemic pretty nice.

Favorite color: I have a favorite color spectrum that includes purple, green, and gold. It slides around depending on my mood. I will also argue that glitter is one of my favorite colors.

Song stuck in your head: This precise moment? My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark/Fall Out Boy -- I've been listening to it, thinking of Finrod composing songs about the burning of the ships that become popular and this leads into Celegorm and Curufin being pissed at him later that their shoreline deeds become Noldorin pop songs without them getting any credit

Favorite food: I am a big fan of mushrooms - years ago, when I used to do impromptu Discord calls while cooking and imparting fandom and life wisdom, it ended up named 'Mushrooms in my Ramen' because that's the best way to ramen. I also like fruit; I grow several types in my yard. Shrimp, shrimp is amazing. Shrimp on pizza, shrimp and corn chowder, shrimp and grits -- just, shrimps, yes. Also poutine. I love a good poutine. I like making soups and chili the way I want them (basically, no tomatoes - tomatoes are my species enemy, they will try to kill me), so, tomato-less and meatless chili is kind of my jam. My big guilty pleasure is Chicken McNuggets. I know they're basically fried chicken goop, I will still consume them. I don't even need sauce. (But, sauce is good, so it honey with them.) Oh, and raw sweet corn. I don't know why people cook corn. It's so much better raw. (not canned cold, but fresh raw sweet corn)

Last song played: I heard Alone Again Or by The Damned when I drove home. I had only previously heard the original by Love, which I, heh, wow, unintentional pun, love. It's a song on my original Glorfindel/Erestor playlist from twenty years back, when the early shippers were jockeying for position and trying to figure those Rivendell bois out. I should teach myself to play that song. I wonder how it would sound on the balalaika... *pencils that in for a summer project* I already know the lyrics... [So the connection for me with Glorfindel and Erestor on this was the idea of Glorfindel being really friendly with everybody, but the only one he wants is Erestor, so he remains alone and waits for him during the early fourth age when the two of them are the last two remaining inhabitants of Imladris. Even though they aren't together yet, Glorfindel still uses terms of endearment for Erestor - right to his face - nothing hidden. My Erestor is such a asshole. Someday he'll do right by everyone... moving on...]

Dream Trip: I'm at a point where I hate any trip where I can't be home to sleep. Apnea diagnosis did that. So, I guess I'd like VR to catch up to a point where I can really and truly immerse and then go to...Middle-earth, of course I'm going there, or Thundera (obviously pre-explodeyness).

Last thing I Googled: I've been trying to help a friend find apartments in Milwaukee county that are not ridiculously expensive or have weird stipulations or fees attached to them. Certainly been a challenge. But the last last thing was googling Alone Again Or by The Damned so I could listen to it again but also sing along as I was writing this (yeah, that's apparently a creepy thing I do, is singing songs with unrelated lyrics while typing other words or blog posts or fanfic, so that's a thing I have going for me)

god i think the best part of hl3 vr for me, something that still sticks woth me is rising up in the citadel and just seeing c17 sprawled out below you, even tho its just a google maps image of new york,

seeing it like that when just before you were out figbting in the trenches with everyone it felt so,,, small and fragile and i felt even smaller rising up above it every problem just seemed to disappear i could almost forget a war was being eaged down below and that what i was foghting was so large so as to be beyond my xomprehension, it made everything so hopeful and small like i was going somewhere that everyone was going somewhere,

and it reminded me of how astronauts when they see earth from space and the moon and how every imaginary line and every problem in the world seemed so small and so easy to solve, and how small and mortal and fragile the earth itself was never mind them thrmselves (its called the overview effect btw, i was reading a lil bit about it on wikipedia and it had a section about how vr can mimic this effect, granted it was focussed on mimicing it by simulating seei g the earth, and its like yeah it really fucking can, doesnt even have to be seeing the earth)

so ever since i sae c17 from so high up ive been thinking about making a comic woth a quote from an astronaut about how they felt seeing space so ive compuled sum of my favs becuz i cnat decide which ones i want to use, so enjoy them

#that feeling was just so overhelming #i dont know if valve intended that to be part of what u feel when u go uo in the citadel cuz playing tbe game normal i never really felt #anything quite like i did in vr #but #im glad they gave us that view #its was so overehelmingly beaitiful and i still think about it #it mightve been my fav part of hl2 vr honestly #it was such a visceral feeling #and i think that gordon (who ive recently decided is afraid of heights) is for just those few moments #forgets evruthing #his fear of heights his worries about the rebellion where hes bekng tsken to everything #and is just teminded that the earth is still there its still so fragile but still so e compassi gly large and strong #i feel like that moment might feel so good in the moment but when hes got such a large responsibility #being given that moment of clarity and big picture would weigh so heavily once he falls back down to earth....#i dunno #it was an experience and one day id like everyone to be able to experience it #ponderingradioactivedecay #and god im realizing that this effect could also have interesting effects on and i fkrm us more about breen #and how ans why he axts the way he does #ciz i had that one psot about him before and remembering that feeli g really leans into mu examination fo him #which im always happy to talk about more so if anyyalld be interested send me an ask or summin and ill see if i can get #my ass to write something in an appropriate amoint of time lmao

NY / infinite dynamic horizons

infinite dynamic horizons May 14 – June 19, 2022 Artists and curator will be present at the gallery on Sunday, May 15 from 1-6pm

Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is pleased to present infinite dynamic horizons, a two-person exhibition featuring the works of Charlotte G. Chin Greene and Sydney Shavers. The exhibition is SiSi Chen’s curatorial debut with TSA NY.

The notion of a horizon first became a fixture in the Western Art canon with the adoption of linear perspective in painting. This abstract proposal of flatness, where all things lead to one or more fixed points on a distant flat line, required one to be bound to an immovable position and accept this homogenous, calculable reinvention of time and space to be objective laws of representation. In her seminal essay In Free Fall: A Thought Experiment on Vertical Horizon, Hito Steyerl observes that with the ever-pervasive usage of Google Earth, AR/VR, and drone technologies, this horizontality is rapidly losing its place as the dominant perspective, replaced with one of verticality and its politics. Steyerl proposes that though this aerial perspective only grants some the god’s-eye-view of floating, but most the motion of perpetually falling, this free fall does not doom us to a demise of falling apart, and instead opens up possibilities of seeing the instability of the ground we are falling towards as vital for necessary shifting. infinite dynamic horizons asks the viewer to consider the horizon in endless motion, where one is constantly on the precipice of transformation, becoming and unbecoming virtual, into and through materiality, faced at once with itself and beyond itself.

Investigating the realms of planetary-scale computation, cosmotechnics, global industry and labor, Greene’s series of works probe the virtual as material. Fabricated from 3D-scans of hubcaps that the artist found while cycling throughout Philadelphia, the work compresses the circularity of viral, industrial, and temporal material. To Greene, this compression became ever more visible during the pandemic. Limited through the intermittent, stark, and repetitious space of Zoom, Greene witnessed their grandmother in her final stages of dementia, and eventual passing. The site-specific installation for this exhibition which accompanies these works activates interstitial space within the gallery through a recursive livestream video feed. Challenging conventional notions of the virtual as immaterial, the installation presents a link between networked hardware and the dis/orientation of the mind and body within nonlinear space and time. In their work, a horizon appears as not so much a fact of perspective as a proposal for the motion and distance between its own anticipation and memory.

This horizon as not-yet-here potentiality, discussed by José Esteban Muñoz in Cruising Utopia, allows for a forward-dawning futurity that extends beyond one’s own limited consciousness, viewable through affective excess. In her work untitled (sit 1-4), Shavers puts her viewers literally amongst the excess, where the chairs have merely suggestions of utilitarian function, and participation requires a negotiation with the horizon from one’s personal vantage point as a refusal of passivity. She creates a space for fugitivity, where implied relationship with a green-screen necessitates a grappling with disembodied signifiers, and opens up the possibility of what a beyondness through an unseeable horizon might be. Shavers’ ongoing performance work Rolling Hills, bridges this concept of thoroughness between the etymologies of performance and perspective, framing performance as an abstraction of living. What appears on the screen is an abstracted fragmentation of light recorded from daily sessions on a step-machine, a residue of performance, exertion, and fugitivity between body and machine.

Charlotte G. Chin Greene is an artist and curator based in Philadelphia, PA and New York, NY. They received their MFA in Sculpture from the Tyler School of Art & Architecture in 2021. Their research- and process-based practice studies time, machines, modes of sensing and perceiving, and the global flow of material. Solo and two-person presentations of their work include Remote Viewing, Temple Contemporary, Philadelphia, PA; Tack and Hide, Wick Gallery, Brooklyn; Red Work, Miranda Kuo Gallery, New York; Lamerica, Bible Gallery, New York; Anxiety Sex, Disclaimer Gallery, Brooklyn. Group exhibitions include Ghost in the Ghost at Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Brooklyn and writing about their work can be found in Artforum, The Brooklyn Rail, and Bedford + Bowery. Their recent curatorial project, I’ll Take Care Of You, is on view at Pilot+Projects in Philadelphia, PA.

Sydney Shavers is an artist based in New York, NY. Her work appraises preconceived notions & concepts of value. She uses deceptive camouflage to infiltrate systems both digital & ‘IRL’, and expose the ways power constructs understanding, mediates perception, and prescribes limits to reality. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including We Were Already Gone at Hauser & Wirth; Manhattan NY; un/mute at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, Manhattan NY; A Gathering at The Catskills in Tribeca, Manhattan NY; and Pieces of Me at Transfer Gallery & left.gallery [online]. Shavers has participated in projects & residencies including UN/MUTE 10002 with the European Union National Institutes for Culture & Undercurrent Gallery; The Interdisciplinary Art & Theory Program [NY]; & ACRE. Her work has been written about in Artnet News, Hyperallergic & The Art Newspaper. She has a BFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago & an MFA from CUNY Hunter College.
