We’re less than 20 days away from my first semester of grad school starting! Even though I’ll be studying online for a year, visiting campus was a must for me.
Lucky enough, the night before walking campus we had a full lunar eclipse! My mother and I had the most perfect view and stayed awake till well after midnight to watch it. Hence why I look pretty rough in this picture.
I’ve spoken with my advisor and have orientation the 18&19th. But I still need to order my textbooks and get my notebooks in order. I’m beyond excited but of course nervous and anxious for it to start.

My favorite thing about college is that anything under a 70 is an F lmfaoo.

Falling in love with this yellow tree outside my office window even though I know it will be gone in a few short weeks.
I’m doing my best but I still have this constant itch of impending doom.

6.18.2021 // job hunt
I got a job alert today for the perfect position for me as I work through finishing my masters and it feels almost too good to be true. Tomorrow my partner and I are going to go to the local library and have a resume/CV work session so I can apply ASAP. I’ve never been so excited about a job opportunity and am trying to focus all my energy towards making the best application. Wish me luck

When I think of Muslim academia/da, I find that some element of cottagecore seeps in. Islam is intricately bound up with nature and having them be two separate aesthetics doesn't make sense to me. For example, take a look at Islamic architecture, particularly Persianate - florals are intricately woven with geometric patterns. Math and astronomy entangled with gold and illuminated manuscripts. The edges of scrolls annotated with entwined branches. Even Arabic calligraphy takes on shapes of birds/animals/plants sometimes.
Islamic academia is aesthetically stunning and deserves its own category instead of conforming to Occidental boxes.

Switching gears to focus on Stat Mech after finishing my E&M exam today feels like a breath of fresh air!
I am also biased since stat mech is indispensable to condensed matter theories. My E&M class is also pedagogically unsatisfactory, to say the least, so here I am.
I'm 1/3 of the way through my semester, which doesn't feel real, but I hope everyone is getting along well this year. I would love to hear what class or topic has been your favorite to focus on this year!

07.29.2021 // book repair
I had such an incredible day. My job interview for the preservation position was today and it went really well. They alluded to me hearing back about a second interview soon and gave me information on when the position would start. I also finished sewing the text block I’ve been working on and it looks so good. Some days everything just works out, and today was one of those days.

Concept: I am up to date with my tasks, I have written out a paper and finalized its edits, empty cups of tea pile up on my desk, the wind rattles the windows, the scented candle is flickering and a cat is purring curled up on the bed.
