Accurate portrayals of Torture in Fiction are Important.

I could go into a whole philosophical and artistic essay about why I think that’s true-

 Or I could quote what the Constitution Project says about the effect fiction had on interrogators in Guantanamo.

 ‘The show [24] was familiar to many at Guantanamo in 2002. “We saw it on cable,” Lieutenant Colonel Diane Beaver recalled. “People had already seen the first series. It was hugely popular…[Jack Bauer] gave people lots of ideas.”’

 Let me unpack that a little in case it’s unclear.

 A US army lawyer involved in deciding how to interrogate real life terrorist suspects about real life attacks, plans and groups got her ideas from fictional depictions of torture.

 I’m going to follow that up with a quote from Joe Navarro a retired FBI interrogator.

 “-the average law enforcement officer in the United States in their career receives between eight and fifteen hours of [suspect] interview training. What fills in the rest? People use words and techniques from popular culture and what’s trendy.”

All night long

Had a shitty night and morning. I had a severe PTSD nightmare where I was being tortured in Guantanamo fuckface Bay. I have been up since two in the motherfucking morning. What really kicked my soccer ball was that my father was acting a school yard bully and my mom did not do much better. I am really upset and pissed off to no fucking end. I couldn’t sleep and what is the fucking point of sleeping anyway it’s annoying. I hate sleep for this exact reason. I have been put on meds for this very reason and they don’t work worth a piece of shit. Guess I will have to talk to my doctor about this. I wish ignorant people like my father would shut up. Ignorant people should be seen and not heard. This PTSD makes me want to vomit 🤮
