Realizing that Amok Time, from T'Pring's perspective, is basically the equivalent of a Vulcan Hallmark Movie, where a holiday (Pon Farr) makes our hero realize she wants hometown boy Stonn and a simple (Vulcan) life instead of big-city (space) boyfriend Spock, and it all comes to a head in an embarrassing misunderstanding in front of her family, is certainly making me feel some kind of way

’Tis the Season to Kill the Dead-Mom Holiday Movie Trope
Tumblr media
"Look, I get it: I’d also be relieved to find out my new bonk buddy wasn’t a philanderer. I’m not mad at Cameron; I’m mad that the dead wife-mom is a plot device in more Christmas movies than I can stuff in a stocking."
Before you curl up with a holiday movie, check out Cat Modlin-Jackson's new Longreads feature. It might just make you think differently about those festive frolics.

I'm home in Texas with the folks who immediately put on a Hallmark movie. It's about a food scientist trying to woo an Italian chef to her company, and the opening scene where she meets her dad before calling the chef is like...it's so close to the scene in Fete where Michaelis and Gregory have dinner that I'm laughing. Down to the "you should be dating" "Yeah dad so should you," conversation. I really did nail the Hallmark aesthetic with that one.

Read this absolutely amazing little story about businessmen who got broken up with over the holidays you know the hallmark movie trope (linked below) and all I can think about is jmart...Jon's a hotshot London lawyer whos been working those long hours to get that promotion for him and Georgie's future and then she up and leaves for 2 weeks before Christmas to go back to like Mistletoe Grove or whatever because she needs to get back to her roots and he's like preparing to propose and thinks her hometown would be the best place so he drives over and sees her like laughing with her old friend Martin and he's like oh. And then while moping in a barn or whatever Martin appears and he's like trying to make conversation and then Jon like erupts like FUCK YOU I can't believe you STOLE my fucking GIRLFRIEND and Martin's like uh...um...that's...um...I'm gay? And Jon's like oh...shit...and Martin's like ...this is really weird of me to say but could i tell you something...and jon just nods and martin takes a breath and really quickly says...if you're gonna be worried about your girlfriend then it's probably Melanie in the wood working shop and Jon's like OF fucking COURSE it's Melanie from the wood working shop and now he has to stay to try and mitigate these circumstances not for any other ugly Christmas jumper clad reason nope, cut to Christmas themed shenanigans as Jon slowly realises its not georgie who he wants to take back home with him...

Welcoming and Stables (2)
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Tumblr media
When the sister’s have to visit their father’s horse. Eleanor debriefs to y/n that the horse is on a certain someone’s land. How will Rebecca welcome y/n? How will the visit turn out?
WARNING: hallmark cringe if ykyk, talk of past relationships, subtle angst, grief, a Christmas bakery (yes that’s a warning 😀), also y/n has a child
✩。:•.───── ❁ ❁ ─────.•:。✩
After the sisters said bye to everyone, y/n turned to her sister with a curious expression. “I noticed that our stables are gone. Where’s Storm?” She quipped, opening the car door for her sister first. “Well, dad told us before he…” Eleanor’s voice seemed to trail off, their father was a kind man he always took pride in his daughter’s but he also supported y/n the most in her dreams of being an artist. Eleanor knew the subject was touchy, “It’s alright..continue.”
“Well, you know. He told us to take Storm to…Rebecca. She’s been taking care of her.” El said carefully, y/n’s shoulder’s tensed and her brows furrowed, “What.”
Eleanor shrunk in her seat, y/n continued with a sigh, “I wouldn’t trust her with Storm. I get it she’s good at dealing with horses, but seriously?” She exclaimed, gripping the steering wheel. “I know, but Storm’s healthy and happy. I think it’s alright. Plus, she’s changed!” Eleanor added, trying to lighten the mood.
“Sure, she changed.”
———
Y/n cursed at herself knowing exactly where Rebecca had still lived, she hated the fact that it was like muscle memory. The ranch was…just as beautiful as it was when she had left for New York. The grass seemed even greener. Y/n had drove the the entrance gate, the once paved road now dirt and mud. Finally, parking next to the stables, Ted, one of Rebecca’s employees smiled seeing the girls. “Y/n! You’re back! What brings you here?” He said quite happily, his hand resting in his pockets. “Well, just wanted to visit. Been a while, y’know?” Y/n smiled, Eleanor giggled behind her which sparked a curiosity in y/n. “What?” The youngest sister pointed inside the stables, there stood a all too familiar figure. “Ah, she’s quite grumpy today. Wish you luck!” Ted flashed a smile before walking away. Y/n let out a shaky breath, after all these years, she would see Rebecca again. Walking hand in hand with her sister they approached Rebecca, “Becca!” The blonde looked up and grinned seeing Eleanor, y/n couldn’t help but feel her stomach flutter and her knees buckle.
“Y/n is here from New York!” Eleanor gestered to her sister, Rebecca’s face fell as she looked at y/n. Her cheeks seemed to turn pink ever so slightly, the edge of her lips up turned up into a smile. “Y/n..” Rebecca let go of El to embrace y/n, the familiar warmth bring a sting in her eyes. “You came back!” Rebecca sniffled, y/n couldn’t help but place her head in the crook of Rebecca’s neck. “I promised I would, didn’t I?” y/n said with a teasing tone making Rebecca chuckle, the blonde pecked y/n’s forehead and squeezed her tight once more.
“I’ve missed you”

The best movie to watch during the holidays is the thing 1982.
Reasons:
-it has snow and it’s always snowy in holiday movies just like in some cheesy romantic comedy holiday hallmark movies.
That is why the thing 1982 is the best movie to watch during the holidays and no this post is not satire. And I’m wishing you all a season’s greetings with this wholesome monkey picture.

Hallmark movie subversion again: The woman is excited to see her family again after so long, and her partner is coming after closing a buisness deal. However her grandparents are convinced said partner no good and keep throwing her ex in front of her as a good Christian man. She ignores him because she figured out she was gay after dating him and her grandparents just refuse to listen. It ends with the woman cutting them out of her life and her own mother (the grandparents kid) going low contact as the lesbians skip off together.
Another subversion: parents come up for Christmas out of respect for their kid’s career and have a great time.
Another: the reason the woman won’t go to her hometown is cause her stalker ex is in town. Parents go to the city instead!
Another: The woman does go down and remembers why she loves the small town life so much. She does not however like her ex who keeps popping up. She finds out her sister is super jealous of the success she has gotten in the big city. Sister is trying to get woman back with Ex in hopes of woman abandoning successful life. Woman is heartbroken her sister is so cruel. Parents upset with sister. Woman goes back to city and talks with boyfriend about moving to the country when they’re older. But they wanna focus on their careers right now!
