any general salmon facts? i find that i absorb knowledge easier when its written by an enthusiastic fan and not some wiki editor ^^;;;
Oh yes!! I’ll make one right now — I could even make more for specific species of salmon in the upcoming days!! But first some general salmon info :DD
Daily fish fact #649
Salmons!
Despite what one might believe, the fish we call “salmon” are not a single unified group from other fishes. Fish we refer to as salmon belong to two genuses, Salmo and Oncorhynchus, and both genuses include fishes we call trout as well! Nevertheless, they are all a part of the salmonid family, and share a similar life cycle of being born in freshwater rivers and migrating to saltwater — except for freshwater populations, which will live their adult life in bigger bodies of water like lakes — in adulthood, eventually returning to their home of origin when they’re ready to breed!

so my general paranoia has always been pretty bad (hi ocd) but I thought it was more manageable the past few years as I've matured and gotten better at catching myself before I spiral, but recently (as in the past three weeks or so) it's been so bad that I do things impulsively as I'm spiralling without even realising it and it's been negatively affecting the way I perceive how friends think of me which I do NOT want to start happening again because that sucked. Idk why it's happening but I'd be grateful for any advice idrk what else to say about it.

No bc when you liked River Phoenix anyway before finding Banana Fish and then noticed the similarities after watching and/or reading BF and you're sad about Ash and then you find out he's heavily inspired by River you have your two sadnesses become one Big Sadness that cannot be escaped and sometimes you'll remember either or both of these men and risk dying of literal heartbreak or loss of will to live

I would like to address my absolute and eternal respect and admiration to any Lupin III fanartist who manages to draw Fujiko's Blue Jacket models.
I'm currently trying to get the hang of her face, and it is an absolute NIGHTMARE.

Help me decide something folks, should merfolk that have the lower half of a whale or a pinniped (or other aquatic tetrapods) be able to breathe underwater?
Pros of having them be able to breathe underwater:
-Everyone can have fun and silly underwater adventures without worrying about drowning which is yes and good (now only pressure! yippee!)
-Can lead to some very cursed solutions like (external!!??) gills on mammals. I enjoy cursed solutions very much.
Cons of having them be able to breathe underwater:
-Not realistic. Ironically even though I enjoy making cursed things the fact that it wouldn't be realistic is making me hesitant :( Biologist side of myself doesn't enjoy the idea
-Feels sort of like a cop-out to just put gills on a seal and call it a job well-done??
It is not a realism issue because this is a magical world where mermaids were deliberately created by a higher being playing via mixing and matching parts i.e. the mermaids are not natural in the slightest and make due with a combination of very strange adaptations and straight up magic. But I don't know if this should be one of those things?? Fish mermaids use their fish half's gills to breathe underwater but I'm stumped on aquatic mammals and other guys lol

For Pride Month I bring you this article from January 2022:
“There’s a lot of hugging and it’s physical and my experience as a straight man certainly wasn’t that.” I’m out of my fucking mind???
