there is CONFUSION . within cloud’s body , he FEELS confusion . alas , his body still isn’t as reactive as he wants it to be . can HARDLY move a finger . though he’s shifting ever so slightly , there is NO control . senses are still hazy - save for what he is HEARING . but what he’s hearing is just the disappointed concern coming from zack . 

its BEEN like that for a while now . at first it had felt like a DREAM , but cloud is beginning to think that some of those PIECES are of a reality - in the waking world . doesn’t make sense ; has never made sense to him : to hear his companion like this . especially not now . it ISN’T like him ( this isn’t like zack ! ) well , not usually .

true , cloud has witnessed the other male’s hesitancy & DOUBT before . but this ? this FEELS different . he doesn’t like it . cloud doesn’t LIKE it ! it almost scares him . no - it DOES scare him . zack is really ALL that he’s had . zack has done so MUCH for him - for BOTH of them really . how could he ever believe that he’s been a let down to him . 

no ! never ! not zack !

again , cloud is UNABLE to control his body as he wants . he’s barely able to MOVE . maybe small shifts here & there , but never more than that . & no matter how many times he’s tried to SPEAK , it’s usually come out in incoherent nonsense . yet , he still TRIES . all for the sake of letting zack KNOW .

a whimper . cloud is TRYING . 

has been getting bettern lately . each attempt has LEFT him frustrated but , somehow it’s what keeps him GOING . perhaps it is that STUBBORNESS in him . 

trying to look at the other is ALMOST a lost cause . his vision is FAR too blurry . but not from what he BELIEVES it to be . its actually coming from the tears . true , cloud is in SOME pain , but it isn’t the USUAL pain that he has been dealing with for months . its actually from the disappointment from HIMSELF . he feels ... SAD . upset even , for being so weak .

if anything , cloud should be the one apologising here . CLOUD was the one who let zack down . 

❛ zack ... ❜   makes another attempt to look towards the other . lips quiver . his body is TREMBLING . still doesn’t feel too good - maybe it’s the fever ? but REFUSES to leave it be . not until he is able to say something more .   ❛ you ... you ... ❜ 

❛ ngh ... no .. ❜   another whine . is trying to find the words . cloud is TRYING to tell him !   ❛ thank . you .. ❜   

crying . he’s crying . he is a SHAKY mess , but he just wants the other to KNOW that there’s nothing to be sorry about . zack did his best - he did MORE than enough . at least for him . cloud only just made things worse for him .

SOLDIER is Shinra trademarked technology and you don’t let your intelectual property simply walk away and go back to some little village in the middle of nowhere.

   "  Dude -- quit hogging all the pillows; you're not the only one who needs beauty sleep!  "   The blond laughs as he tugs the pillow back from the royal and, once successfully in his grasp, proceeds to deliver a firm whack around Noctis' head. A sigh accompanied the collapsing onto the pillow, content in the banter shared between friends. Despite his inability to prove it, Ignis seemed to have smiled when Noctis retorted-and the pair burst out laughing. 

    "  Promise me... Once this road trips over, that this won't change....  " 

                        " Hm? What d'ya mean?   "

  "  You know ... hanging out, bro stuff...  " 

An air of laughter envelops the royal as he glances at his best friend.  

                       "  Wouldn't want it any other way...    "

  "  Good, cauuuuuuse, I know you're gonna be living all fancy after this, but I still  promise  to be a pain in your ass!  "  Prompto jokes. 

    "  Yeah, yeah...    "  Noctis chuckles, rolling his eyes.

delirious , he is . cloud does not have any sort of SENSE to his ramblings & mumbling . thoughts are mixed & jumbled . there is absolutely ZERO awareness to his surroundings as well . barely functionable : that is what he is in his current state . how he’s even conscious to begin with right now is still left to be answered . well , perhaps it is because he’s not actually fully alert . he’s awake , sure , but he is DEFINITELY not completely here . or there . or really anywhere .  

time is a concept that he is unable to UNDERSTAND right now . ah , but he is also incapable of grasping ANY sort of direction either . where were they ? he doesn’t remember . zack said something about midgar . but , what is  midgar again ? he is unsure . he doesn’t know . cloud DOESN’T remember ! is it a person ? or is it a place ?

thoughts flash before him . his mind is scattered . & some memories blend together . he’s trying to find the words . but he’s always falling short of them . something happened . something happened ! what happened ... ?

❛ hmmm . za  —  i . you ... wh — um ... zack . zack ?  ❜   zack had done something . he did something . cloud remembers THAT , but he doesn’t know what . what did zack do ? what DID zack do !

he hears it happening . ah , well , he HEARD it happening . oh ! if only he could actually do something about this ! cloud is unable to even FLINCH at the sudden bangs in his head . it smells ... strange . like that weird metallic iron smell mixed with dust . wait , is that what he smells ? ( could he even smell ? ) or was his mind PLAYING tricks on him again . if he could MOVE better , he’d try to push himself to pressing more . 

something’s wrong though . he’s sure of that . something’s wrong ! zack did something . he’s .... hurt . zack’s hurt . he’s injured . oh , well ... so is cloud . cloud’s sick .   ❛ pain . you’re  — zack ? zack . im ... ❜  

breaths quicken & shorten as his heart begins to race . there is PANIC in his voice . panic & pain . he’s breaking down again . he is trying to find some sort of grounding . where were they ? where WERE they ? a train station ? was that a train ? is that what he was hearing ? can SENSE his companion beside him . there’s concern to be found in the other . he can feel it . he wants to calm down , but he can’t . nothing is stopping him from having an episode . 

he’s about to go off again . he is ABOUT to , that is , but something STOPS him short of it . a familiar , yet distant FIGURE stills cloud . it prevents him from making a scene . it’s ENOUGH to GROUND him .   ❛ tifa ? ❜   is he seeing things ? who knows . but .... zack needs the help , right ? they NEED to find a place .

this was as close as cloud will get in being helpful for them for now . & it’s really not much . well , aside from pulling cloud back into focus , that is . which is probably something .   ❛ tifa ... it’s tifa . ❜

-what if they both made it to midgar ? what then ? for @hercbled​​​​ !
