Time to talk about That Cover

holy shit my bkdk heart be still

I wanna preface this by saying that I am only conversational in Japanese, not fluent, and in my utter excitement upon seeing the cover for the first time, already mistranslated it (mistaking 侵す for 傷, one meaning to 'to harm,' the other meaning 'injury.') My apologies but we're all losing our minds so les gooooo

I was about to go to sleep but this cover ruined my life

the title of this volume (fusegusha to okasusha) basically means "the one who protects and the one who harms," which is clearly a reference to Deku vs AFO-Shiggy

HOWEVER 'okasu' (侵す) can also mean to encroach, invade, violate, ect... implied to be inflicted on something inanimate, a possession... like, there are words that specifically mean to hurt people. That's not the word here.

hetero interpretation is that AFO-Shiggy is an invader on Yuuei terf and Deku is its defender

cool, yeah, badass

the gay implication is that Bakugou belongs to Midoriya

okay okay okay okay

we do love a possessive Deku in this house

but what gets to me is that this volume uses the more traditional kanji for protector (禦 instead of the simplified 防)... anyone more fluent have a suggested reason for this choice?

cause for now I'm just going with Deku is badass and cool and we gon put some respect on his title as protector

The official heroaka twitter account captioned this cover with "倒れた爆豪を抱きとめるデクが目印です," which to my understanding (correct me if my colloquial translation is off) means "The image of Deku holding back a fallen Bakugou."

(Tho I am a bit confused by the way 抱き止め is used, because it implied restraining someone, holding them back from something... and if anything, Deku is the one holding himself back??? Again, correct me if I'm missing something)

And I really wanna fucking know why the traditional kanji for protect

(So traditional that my Japanese keyboard on my phone doesn't even fucken suggest this kanji for fusegu)

So during the car ride, when Jeanist swerved (and I'm hard core eyeing him over the concern for Hawks' health but then immediately doing this, was it on purpose) because chickie boi makes a typo saying “nawosaka” instead of “nansuka” maybe Jeanist wanted to clown on Hawks, and the anime adds him going splat in the car window, and the official heroaka twitter account goes and tweets the typo as soon as it happens, like any good friend group chat where they never let you live down typos. rip Hawks, bullied everywhere

To be fair when Jeanist swerved it was because he spotted villain activity and he went into "hero mode".

Although people clowning on Hawks for the typo he made because of it is hilarious.

i fell into bnha and then out of it before the tiktok cosplays ever became popular. anyways felt oddly nostalgic today and dug up this mad about my favorite part of the series which i thought was so good back in 2018. i asked reddit how's the series is going and apparently people are very divided. i probably wont pick bnha up again but who knows (also i dont want to see the domestic abuser get a redemption arc). also kanzaki iori still slaps. the only i know about the series past the cultural festival is that heroaka fans wished for queer rep and a finger on the monkey's paw curled and they got the piss rat grape baby

Gimme gimme...

... some fanfiction!

After a 10 year hiatus or so I recently started working on a new fanfiction. I tried to blend in a lot of things on my mind as well as as many canon things I could think of and, of course, my favorite ship: Kacchako. But slow SLOOOOW, I want this to be believable!

Though I enjoy reading fanfictions myself with a lot of different set ups, I prefer writing stories true to canon as good as possible. I personally don't like to twitch characters and I love spinning ideas further, letting the characters interact and let their personalities unfold a story. Also, I budged a lot of original characters in to develop a whole new environment and show different aspects of a character by letting them interact with certain people by choice to cover some topics I couldn't with canon characters in that way. E.g. Todoroki surely wouldn't talk about his family issues with just anyone except maybe Midoriya and what do I do when little Cinnamonroll is not available? I try to create a believable situation with a new character involved. Of course a lot of people don't like getting OCs involved (fun fact, I'm one of them but only if they are too one dimensional and not plot fitting) but for what I want to tell, I need OCs.

The fic revolves around a more than slow burn Kacchako but also a lot about Bakugous character in particular (including a brotherly but difficult relationship with Kirishima and some serious difficult discussions with his instructor (an OC btw))

The fanfiction will become a long one (slow pacing) but I want to take my time granting character development to Uraraka, Todoroki, Kirishima and Kaminari as well.

SPOILER WARNING: The fanfic takes place after the Yakuza Arc and I didn't include recent developments.
