Croatian Sign Language! / Hrvatski Znakovni Jezik!
I drew this a while ago, because the resolution of the original print - only one I was able to find online - wasn’t all that great. I’m not too sure about it’s accuracy (if people would prefer I take it down, I will)
In the print this was written as a one-hand alphabet - however, since then I’ve come across better resources - like Spread the Sign so I’m putting these in my sketch/process tumblr as a sort of look into the past.
I would like to redo or update this at some point.
Captions from a Gospel lectionary that belonged to duke Albert the Old of Pomerania, printed in Croatia in 1563. The language is Croatian Church Slavonic in the angular Glagolitic script.

A svijet boli, uvijek boli
toliko da ponekad trčimo dalje od sebe
samo da ne osjetimo
Znam da trčite što dalje
da isplačete svu tu ljepljivu tugu"
love seeing people getting delighted by noun cases... yeah bby vocative sure as hell is a cool concept but I was personally victimized by all and every noun case ever please shut up
30 may is important holiday for Croats. It started in 1990 when the first multi-party parliment convented. First it was seen more as idenpendence day, but Ivica Račan decided to move it to 25 june and use 30 may more as memorial day.
Dear Balkans who speak Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian, tell me which language do you feel more divergent from? If you are a Serbian speaker, which language is closer and more understandable to you - Bosnian or Croatian (also in relation to Croatian and Bosnian speakers)?
///stupid question i know but i ask it bc I learn serbian, but often come across the Bosnian language (sometimes Croatian) and see some similarities in it from Serbian (But there are also many differences) , and I wonder if I accidentally learn some of the Bosnian or Croatian words, how well I will be understood.
please consider that those are just the words my own family uses ○ in croatian for example some words may be translated or written (slightly) differently than in serbo-croatian
Prošlost, sadašnjost i budućnost se odvijaju upravo sada. U ovom trenutnu. Čak ne postoji ni sada kao vreme. Već samo svesnost. Vreme je iluzija. Vreme ne postoji.
Rest in peace, Ćiro. You'll always be remembered. Not only for your successes, but also for your imortal smiles. That medal was for you, as Dalić said. You shaped us all, and we thank you.
