I mentioned last summer how scars can go bright pink in the sun, and some of yall asked what I meant but I healed too fast SO
Tumblr media
The lighting is weird, but basically what's happened is I've gotten a sunburn on my shoulder. My normal skin has burnt, making it redder than my natural sorta pale olive tone, and when it heals, I'll be more tan.
The scar that's there, though, is a different sort of tissue, and has no melanin- its hard to tell cause I'm naturally low in pigmentation, but if I had say brown or black skin, that scar would still be pink.
Part of that means scars like mine don't tan. They burn, yes, but once the burn heals, it will not appear a darker tone the way the rest of my skin will- it will still be pale, and will easily burn again straight away- and faster than the rest of me!
That said, if you can see the little brown freckle on the far right side of it? That's some pigmentation that's grown back! Some scars come back darker rather than paler, and some scars eventually grow back the pigmentation of the surrounding skin.
Also, fun fact- scar tissue like this also doesn't sweat or grow back hair follicles! So if I was in a hot, dusty environment for a while and started to sweat, my scars would stay clean and dry!

Only by welcoming uncertainty from the get-go can we acclimate ourselves to the shattering wonder that enfolds us. This animal body, for all its susceptibility and vertigo, remains the primary instrument of all our knowing, as the capricious earth remains our primary cosmos.

Every "It's actually super toxic for Ruby to accept Penny as she is" post I see just makes me hope more and more for a purely mechanical Penny 3.0 to state, point-blank, that she prefers her mechanical body, remembering the flesh body perfectly well and deciding "No, I don't need my 'inhumanity' to be cured, you people just need to stop being weird about it."
I really understand how that could make people feel uncomfortable, I know a lot of people don't feel great about her having her human body too, in fact Penny never needed to be "changed" and she was perfect as she was. No matter how Penny can come back I would be happy tbh lol.
The only thing as I probably mentioned one or two times in previous asks, is that I find it kinda cruel to turn her into a human with flesh body and all, even for a short time, only to make her come back fully mechanical afterwards. I just think that she experienced human life and sensibility even not for a long time, and putting her back in this metallic body would feel weird... I think at this point she should either never have been turned into human, or maybe she could come back in a different way, "cyborg" way. I actually love the idea of Penny having a human body with robotic parts/prothesis like Yang, or fully human body enhanced with tons of gadgets idk. I have a huge post of theories in mind for her but that would take some time, and I think I could only focus on it for a bit once I'm done with my studies in a few months x)

Quote
Touch is the sensory mode which integrates our experiences of the world and of ourselves. Even visual perceptions are fused and integrated into the haptic continuum of the self; my body remembers who I am and how I am located in the world. My body is truly the navel of my world, not in the sense of the viewing point of the central perspective, but as the very locus of reference, memory, imagination and integration. All the senses, including vision, are extensions of the tactile sense; the senses are specialisations of skin tissue, and all sensory experiences are modes of touching, and thus related to tactility. Our contact with the world takes place at the boundary line of the self through specialised parts of our enveloping membrane.
