I saw someone point out that one reason why the new taylor album sounds off is because she keeps rhyming constantly as if to prove that she can rhyme. And honestly? I can see that.

So one of the things I'm using in my historical fiction novel is the original Presbyterian Mission Home later known as the Dondalina Cameron House.

Which is where these Christian women opened up a boarding house for Chinese women to stay who were being abused or prostitutes bc back then in the 1870s to like up to the 1900s things were so bad for Chinese women and girls immigrating bc of multiple different factors (poor families in China selling their daughters to America, abuse from servitude and prostitution with the tongs, the page act, etc)

And the thing about this house was that while it did help the girls like be safe from the streets and they learned English and other literacy skills and made a little money sewing, they were also like trying to be converted to Christians.

So they would get up and pray and do chores. And then they would like sing hymns for the white visitors. And if they wanted to get married (which was an easy way to like make it in the world back then) they had to be a Chinese Christian man that Margaret Culbertson (the main lead of the house) approved of. And they also like couldn't go outside unless they were escorted.

So like when they went to church every Sunday they were escorted. And there were like a few occasions of her escorting the girls to go visit places around the city for like sight seeing but they essentially remained in the house.

Plus like there was no sort of mental health resources and they didn't like... care to know Catonese or look up Chinese customs/cultural things until later on. Like they didn't even get a translator officially until one of the girls eventually grew up old enough to be one.

And in the back of my mind I was thinking like "there had to be some girls that didn't like this, right?" And i found a source that said that some girls didn't so that's interesting.

Anyways this is just to say that research is your friend and you should always dig deeper into things.

I remember this ex Mormon girl used to come up on my tik tok fyp and sometimes she would like point out that some celebs (mostly singers for some reason??) either were or are ex Mormons. And it reminded me about how some black celebs were or are ex jehovah witnesses
