Guys, I feel like we need to have a talk about this

I got a comment on a fic I wrote today.

The fic was a 14 year old hitojaku fluff with mild hurt and comfort. It featured my personal hc that Jakurai is a (closeted) trans woman, but the main point of the fic was (supposed to be) less about the hc, and more about having a safe and supportive environment to express yourself. The reason I wrote that was that I, as a genderqueer person, as a person in general, have struggled to find a safe space such as Jakurai has in the fic (Hitoya's family). It was a personal endearing idea that makes me really happy and I posted it to Archive of our own to hopefully share that idea with people that might connect with that.

I tagged everything correctly. I wrote everything related to bullying and gender dysphoria to my personal experiences, and yet. I got this comment;

First of all- this made my cry. This hurt. Writing is a huge form of creativity, it is a huge form of art. Most people do not understand that creativity is an emotion. Putting something you created out on the internet is one of the scariest things a person can do. You are laying your thoughts, emotions, feelings, and experiences out on the table and praying someone doesn't decide to stab everything about it. This was a 2,476 word fic that I spent a long time working on, and it never feels good to get a hateful comment. It was one that I thought was cute, that I thought was comforting, and that I thought shown a reasonable depiction of gender dysphoria and transness (from my personal experiences). But clearly, it offended someone.

I ended up responding with this;

Everything that I said here I belive in. I feel that the fic I wrote was harmless enough considering it's pretty mild all things considered, AND everything was tagged accordingly. I also feel like the language used in the comment was highly inappropriate and disrespectful. I am a minor, I am far from a fully grown person, and am absolutely willing to learn from my mistakes and do better in the future, but if there is a problem with something I do, I highly appreciate if I am told in a mature and non-hateful way because I do nothing with ill intent.

Most importantly though, is that this is the hypnosis mic fandom. This is an anime fandom. This is a fandom. This is a giant group of people from a thousand different backgrounds, different races and ethnicities, different cultures, different genders, different sexualities, and different experiences. Not one of us are the same, not one of us is evil, and not one of us is righteous. I am here to enjoy a story about people trash talking each other in a territory battle via rapping. I am here to enjoy a myriad of characters with their own backgrounds disagreements. Because this is a fandom, that should mean people are free to express their feelings, their thoughts, and their opinions on characters in the world. A fandom should be a light hearted place where people can agree to disagree about a character's favorite color, or sexuality.

I am here to have fun. If my hc does not aline with yours, that doesn't make me a "homophobic", "filthy", "gross", "disgusting", "sick", person.

I want to hear other people. I want to know that a fandom is a fun place where people can disagree on points and still have a good time.

hi saw your daddy kink post discussing the phenomenon of giving grown characters surrogate parental relationships, and I understand where you’re coming from, but i really feel like it’s just a matter of the circles you run in, and the assumptions that you might make because of that. you mention how platonic reads of these dynamics are more uncommon than kinky reads, which i just don’t think is the case, and I think that arguing that people don’t even realize that they’re writing a kink is a little bit bizarre, and sort of assumes that you know more abt them than they do by projecting your own experiences onto them.

it isn’t inherently sexual to crave protection or a parental relationship that you may have missed out on, and it is certainly not universal. in my own family, my “grandpa” isnt my biological grandfather (nor do I really consider him to be my grandfather), but he’s my mother’s surrogate father and has been since she was in her twenties. an adult. he sees her as a daughter. she sees him as a father. there’s absolutely nothing kinky about it. and anybody who automatically assumes that must have their mind deep, deep in the gutter and/or the stranger side of the Internet. really, i find it a bit of a strange argument to randomly post in the first place—as if it’s a problem that so many people enjoy non romantic and non sexual relationships, and that these people must, in fact, have a daddy kink that they are unaware of.

that said, i do absolutely agree that fans bringing any part of that into phil’s chat is weird and they should Not do that, and that infantilizing characters is also very weird, and personally i dont even see him as being father figure to anybody on that island except his eggs, wilbur, and MAYBE an argument could be made for tubbo (which other cc’s on the island have joked about), but to each their own and all that.

sorry this is so long. TLDR, i get where ur coming from in terms of “warning , some people might read your stuff differently than you want here” but really not everything is a kink and paternal dynamics can easily happen in regards to adult characters, particularly young adults, without there being any inappropriate connotations. i know nothing i said will change your mind, obviously it’s set, but ykno diff perspectives and all that. hope ur doing well

Thank you for the ask! I see you were on mobile, I believe. :D I am also going to push the character limit with this response, I fear.

I agree that it isn't inhernetly sexual to go after a parental relationship that you missed out on, and there are many such cases. I'll even go so far as to say that it's not inherently kinky to go after a parental relationship that you missed out on, because there is such a thing as non-sexual kink, and heaven knows that MCYT writing is full of non-sexual kink. Lots and lots of stuff that is platonic that is kinking on fear, or being drugged, or kidnapping, or hypnosis, or familial relationships, etc— there's lots of people who aren't doing that. There are tons of people out in the real world (and in fiction), who are simply just expanding their family as an adult, and that's awesome. When I was in college there was this older couple who kind of adopted me and invited me over for thursday dinner, and they were awesome. There was nothing untoward going on there.

But look. I am an emduo fan who likes to see my guys be murdery, and because of that, I've ended up reading a bunch of Dark SBI. I've ocassionally gone "this cannot be what everyone is doing" and I've read stuff tagged as "family fluff" that I find recommended. I am aware of where the genre is going, particularly with the rise of "dadbur" and "dadnoblade" interpretations.

And look, you have just got to trust me on this one. People are writing stuff that in any other fandom I would be recommending they put kink tags on the work so that people who liked that trope could find it and people who didn't like it would avoid it, but that comment in DSMP would just lead to people getting doxxed, so I just grit my teeth and go "i guess that's baked into Dark SBI or Tooth Rotting Fluff now, I sure hope that doesn't hit anybody's triggers".

Like I PROMISE you. The first draft of this response included excerpts of fics that I've read and I was like "can YOU pick the ship fic from the /p fics here"? But I have a horror of ever leading to someone getting cancelled on twitter, so nothing that could possibly be identifiable of these writers. But like—

Some of the ways that Tommy gets treated in the narrative are almost indistinguishable from a bodice-ripper romance. Some of the tropes being used— within DSMP we've all clasped hands and agreed to interpret it being platonic, but in any other fandom, you are going to start getting comments that you might not want to get. The tag is FULL of stuff that is DD/LB in everything but name. Maybe my mind is in the gutter here, but if you move out of this fandom, you are going to move into circles where a lot of people's minds are in the gutter, and you are going to get a very different response from your comments!

And I was talking about daddy kink here specifically, because I see that one come up a lot and it's gotten egregious lately, but this also applies to dehumanization, and fearplay, and predator/prey, and "instincts" (in every other fandom that's gonna get people in a mashup of A/B/O, Hypnosis, and sometimes Agere responding to it), and kidnapping/drugging, AND the way a bunch of "piglin instincts" stuff is just a BDSM au now where the Brute (dom) needs to be callmed down by their Runt (sub). The SBI tag is super kinky right now. And I don't have a problem with that idealogically, write your truth, but a) please don't bring that up in front of the streamers, b) if you move to another fandom you have got to be prepared that not everyone is doing their kink platonically.

Like I'm assuming that people don't know what tropes they're playing into, they're just building them from first principles, because the other alternative is that they are deliberately and knowingly writing kink and posting it in the & relationship tag with insufficient trigger tags, and I prefer to believe that people don't know.

I'm glad we agree about people bringing that into Phi's chat, or Pol's, or Luzu, or any of the other streamers that people have decided is So Old. A lot of people aren't comfortable even being assigned dad, as we saw with Felps, so bringing it even further is just— uh oh, no.

I do not have a problem with people liking non-romantic and non-sexual relationships. I find it a bit odd that much of the fandom can't concieve of a non-romantic and non-sexual relationship without making it familial and specifically lately father-son— don't you have close friends?— but I am fully in support of gen writing. I primarily write gen! I'm an avid commentor on gen fics!

But some of the tropes at play in the fandom are kinky, there is no way to avoid that. The fact that they are set in a familial relationship doesn't negate that. Some of the ways that the DSMP characters get treated would be distinctly non-familial if you ever brought it out of that context. And I am just warning people, if you bring it out of that context, be prepared for the response you get.

You cannot take DSMP tropes and apply them one-to-one in other fandoms, with other streamers swapped in, and expect them to be read the same way. Like i'm sorry, but that's just true. If you are posting the same sort of stuff that for Cellbit & Phil that you would post for Tommy & Phil, people will assume that you have a daddy kink, because usually when a relationship between a adults that are actually similar in age is refered to with paternal language it's a kink thing. That is how the broader internet works. (And anon, if I had a daddy kink, would I be complaining about the fact that I can open any SBI fic and have about a 40% chance of hitting it and I'm seeing signs of this appearing in QSMP? I assure you I'm not "projecting [my] own experiences onto them" here.)

50 Days of HypnoKink - Day 49: Hypno in Media

My heavens... we made it to the finish line. Tomorrow is the final day.

I wanted to save an obvious one for the end because I do so enjoy MC in fiction so very much. So much, in fact, that I made a Twitter thread with 110 recommendations and never even came close to emptying my resources.

I know so many of these scenes, both that Twitter thread and this page are skimming the surface.

I'll be using some of those recommendations here but let's divide by category:

Film

So let's get the obvious out of the way. You have

Trance

A Danny Boyle thriller with a terrible plot and Rosario Dawson as a hypnotherapist trying to get hidden information from James McAvoy's mind. Silly movie but one that doesn't get brought up a lot. Dawson learned hypnosis to get into the role.

Candyman

Horror movie in which the director literally hypnotized the actress so any time she was being stalked by the titular killer she looked completely entranced. Link above is an interview discussing this.

Hypnotic

HORRIBLE movie on Netflix but Sleepyhead and I have hosted a number of watch parties and let me tell you, this is the PERFECT movie to watch with a bunch of rowdy hypnokinksters. The therapist is unethical to a laughable degree and his office looks like it's inside of the Death Star. He's a living breathing red flag. The movie does have a really hot freeze scene, a good ragdoll and the dollification sequence. It's just enjoyable because it's terrible. Check CWs first though, this movie has a bunch of things that can make it an uncomfortable viewing experience.

The Great Hypnotist

This is a Not For Daja movie. A Chinese movie that doesn't get brought up a lot. Like Trance above it is a thriller with some twists and turns that I don't really want to spoil.

Stir of Echoes

A visualization of a dissociation induction designed to make a person view events on a screen so they are separate from the memory. It's a remarkably well done scene.

Now You See Me 1/2

The hypnosis in these movies is STUPID and I love it. The first movie has a punchline that every time Mark Rufallo's character makes a frustrated comment people who Woody Harrelson has hypnotized will start acting as if they're in an orchestra. Second movie has a twin Woody Harrelson as an evil hypnotist and he uses a pizza box as an evil induction. It's amazing.

Sherlock Holmes Woman in Green

This induction is one of the coolest I've seen in a film and I try my hardest to channel the energy of this when I am doing a relaxation focused scene.

TV

Charlies Angels

This is bar none my favorite hypnosis scene in any fiction. The typewriter induction is amazing, the hypnotist has such a smooth voice, the entranced gazes are lovely. It's just perfect. Heck, the link above is "hypnosis scenes" from the episode and is 26 minutes long. From a single episode of television.

Doctor Who

Sarah Jane gets hypnotized so often that I could make a list purely from her.

Legion

I just wanna link this one as it's one of those scenes that works so much better without context and the aesthetics are incredible. Plus who doesn't like Aubrey Plaza?

Nyx do incredible games which are designed to hypnotize the viewer and their consent practices are wonderful. They recently teamed up with Secret Subject to release a vampire enthrallment game and let me tell you, there is not a single word in that synopsis that doesn't make me happy.

Mind Melting Massaging Machine

The best tool for VR hypnosis. Upload custom files and program spirals, subliminals and chose between static spiral or headtracking. I have had so much fun with this over the years. There's a desktop version too but VR is optimal for this experience.

Spiral Clicker

It's such a simple concept. Click on the character and watch their will go away. Spiral Clicker is backed with a fun little universe, fun characters both original and community sourced, amazing art and a clever little gameplay loop that is quite addictive. Careful, the game features a constant spiral, you may find yourself falling in to trance. Don't worry. The game will wake you up. You can even ask the game to include suggestions for you :)

The sequel is being worked upon now and I cannot wait <3

Younger Siblings Tournament Bracket Reveal

A few things I want to mention before I reveal the bracket (and make the post really long because all the matchups will be listed in text):

Seeding of fictional characters in tumblr polls is inherently subjective. I did try to make it so that more popular characters/media would (most likely) face off against each other in later rounds, but I may be overestimating or underestimating the popularity of some characters/media, especially ones I'm not familiar with. There are some round 1 matchups that are probably a closer match but none of them are between the strongest candidates... I think.

The more niche characters will probably get obliterated in the first round as per Squimbus' Law. This is a tumblr poll and I do fully expect more popular characters to sweep, but that doesn't mean you can't encourage your friends to give your niche faves a fighting chance.

Also there are some matchups I literally just thought would be funny. Please don't take this too seriously.

Steve is naked.

Tony can't help himself but notice that, he'is Oh-my-God so damn naked. No shirt. No pants. Even no socks, nothing at all - Not to mention the fact, that, well, there's nothing to cover his limbs either.

The thing is... The Captain is not worried.

He's still at his place, sitting on his chair, smiling, the lights from the window shining, reflecting on his shoulders, his chest, every single, smallest detail of his torso, his belly, his...

"What do you see?"

The Captain did say nothing. But still, the genius ears his voice as a warm, warm echo in his head. He almost feel the touch of his lips on the right temple.

"I see you." he answers "And you're naked."

"And do you like seeing me that naked?"

"Yes." he nodds and when he does, Tony feels Steve's mouth leaving, replaced by his fingers. The fingertips presses on both his temples, pushing gently, tracing a little, circular movement.

"Wanna see more?"

"Yes."

"Wanna kiss me?"

"Yes."

"Wanna fuck me?"

The genius nodds again and finds himself giving in, letting Steve's hands moving him up and down, back and forth, the fingertips pressing and tracing spirals on his skin.

"Yes." he murmurs.

The pressure on the temples is so warm, the bubbling movement so lulling, up and down, back and forth, that the eyelids start flickering as the eyes begin to slowly rolling up at every up and every down and left to right and back and forth.

"I'll let you see more, Tony." Steve whispers "Because you're such a goid subject. You're such a good boy."

"Good." he repeats "Good."

"Yes, Tony, yes you are. And you're so good that I want show you how beautiful you're are right now. So-" he says "I want you to open your eyes and look at the mirror in front of you."

A mirror.

Where just a couple of minutes before - Or there were hours? - they started to talk about hypnosis and mind control, right where Steve was sitting, there's a mirror.

A rectangular-shape one, leaning on the back of the chair, big enough to let Tony sees himself - And Steve just behind him.

As he dreamed, he took off his shirt, even though he kept his trousers on - And just under the belly there's a big, pulsing sign of how he's enjoying the situation.

"Look at you." Steve whispers on his ear, still pressing and moving slowly his head "Tell me what you see."

"I see myself." Tony answers, his voice coming so soft, vacant, distant "I see myself as you lull me."

"Go on. How do you see yourself?"

"Relaxed."

"Look closely. Don't you think you're even a little heavy?"

Tony struggles a few seconds in order to see something through the dizziness.

"Yes." he agrees "I am tired and heavy."

"You're in fact tired and heavy." Steve says "See how heavy your shoulders are, Tony."

"Yes. My shoulders are so heavy."

"Tell me what you see."

"I see my shoulders growing heavier. I see my shoulders growing so heavier they can't stay still, they're falling down. Down. Down."

"Look at yourself. Are you going down too?"

Stark blinks once, twice.

He sees his chest, going up, going down, at each and any breath, one breath deeper than the one before it, deeper and deeper, heavier and heavier.

He sees his neck, so heavy at the point is bubbling up and down, left to right, back and forth, while Steve's hands arr guiding it back and forth, left to right, up and down.

He sees his mouth, so relaxed, so tired, so heavy, gently opend, loose and limp, heavier and heavier.

He sees hys eyelids blinking more and more, flickering, fluttering, his eyes rolling up, and then down, his eyelids heavier and heavier, at each and any blink, heavier and heavier, deeper and deeper.

"Do you see yourself going deeper and deeper, Tony?"

"Yes. I see myself going deeper and deeper."

"Do you see yourself becoming heavier and heavier?"

"Yes. I see myself becoming heavier and heavier. "

"Do you want to sleep?"

"Yes. I want to sleep."

Steve stops lulling his head.

"Now. Staring at yourself at the mirror, Tony, and put yourself to sleep repeating this mantra over and over again:"I am going deeper and deeper."

"I am going deeper and deeper."

"I am going heavier and heavier."

"I am going heavier and heavier."

"Good, Tony. You're doing so well." Steve strokes his hair "Now, start repeating your mantra."

Tony nods, even though it's just so difficult find the strenght to do as told. He feels so heavy. Deep.

He wanna sleep so badly.

But a the same time, he wanna be compliant. Obedient. Submissive.

So he rises his head, his sleepy sleepy eyes fixed on the sleepy sleepy eyes reflected in the nirror.

"I am going deeper and deeper. I am going heavier and heavier. I am going deeper and deeper. I am going heavier and heavier."

I'm not too picky when it comes to tools - I think a lot of the fun of hypnosis is finding new and creative ways to lead someone into trance, in real life or fictionally. If I had to choose though, I think the basics are my favorite - eye contact, a soothing voice, finger movements if need be, drawing on the focus and concentration of the subject. Can't go wrong with the classics.

I'm a fan - though I think of it more as not being allowed to access one's thoughts more than a literal decreasing of a character/person's intelligence. Like, they know the right answers somewhere inside of their head, but when they go to retrieve them the trance forces their thoughts to drift off, pulled away from coming up with the answers or making sense of the situation they're in and left in a fuzzy and confused state of mind. There's something about that that is so indicative of what hypnosis is or can be, and that's very cute to me.

I can't say I have much of an opinion on them, to be honest. As a form of restraint to either aid the sensation of a trance or prevent the escape from one, I think they're fine. But I view them as pretty similar to most other forms of restraint (though I do have a favorite, and that's usually coils).

Although, if I think about it specifically in the case of a magician about to do an escape act only to get caught halfway through and hypnotized by a passing hypnotist, I think there's some better potential there than using it regularly as just a forced restraint on another person. There's something fun about the idea of a person presenting themselves in a trap of their own making to a hypnotic passerby who couldn't pass up on a good opportunity.

No, no regular predator instincts, at least not in the ones that I create. It would be based less on a biological instinct and more on each individual one's personality. Some prefer having their prey come to them willingly for a mutually beneficial hypnotic relationship. Others like to chase their prey down, with some specifically liking to play cat and mouse, catching and releasing the same prey in a chase that devolves further and further into fractionation the longer the hunt lasts. Others prefer to catch their prey unawares and dote on them once they're under, leaving them none the wiser once they wake up. Some only use hypnosis as a means of escape and survival. There are likely possibilities for more options other than those, but yeah, depends on each naga.

A person would be able to breathe in the honey pretty comfortably, though they wouldn't be able to stay conscious for long (if at all).

If a human was immune, the bees likely wouldn't be able to understand and would continue trying to assimilate them in the honey. As a last ditch effort, they have a method of closing off individual honey cells to try and 'incubate' a person longer. Even if a person is immune to the assimilation properties of the honey, very few are resistant to it's sedative effects, and even fewer are fully immune. Even if they didn't become a bee, most would eventually at least succumb to sleep inside of the honey cell. If an immune person was ever caught, they'd likely be stuck in the cell until they were rescued or whenever the bees were defeated and the Hive started to break down.

The only task that the drones have are to take care of the Queen bee, manage the honey and the Hive, and go out to recruit new bees. The Queen and the bees don't really have a driven goal in mind - similar to actual bees, their main goal is solely to live together, produce honey, and expand their home if need be.
