Marianne and Anger

So the post I just reblogged got me thinking about Marianne and her relationship to anger. It’s very easy to overlook due to Marianne being soft spoken but she actually is a character with firm boundaries and one who is open to calling people out. The two things I think anger her the most are: expectations and intrusions.

Let’s start with expectations. The post I just reblogged included screenshots of her Ferdinand support where he’s lecturing her about noble responsibilities (classic Ferdie) and she responds by telling Ferdinand “she does not care to be responsible.” This is the most important line imo but other details such as her storming off or going “ugh” when speaking emphasize how angry she feels. She knows she is not what people expect of her and she knows others might see her and feel disappointed but she feels that’s not fair, she didn’t choose the archetype she’s being expected to fit. But instead of responding simply with sadness or anxiety as someone might expect from her type of character, she responds with anger. This is part of the reason she loves animals so much, they don’t expect anything from her so she doesn’t have to worry about tailoring herself to fit their standards. Then, in her B support with Ashe he talks about how great her crest is. While this is not as extreme an example of forcing expectations onto Marianne, Ashe is still expecting Marianne to be grateful for her crest. When she delivers the line “there’s nothing great about it” it sounds like she’s speaking through her teeth, as if she has to utilize a great amount of self control to not have as much of an outburst as she did with Ferdinand. In this case, I think Ashe’s ignorance towards the subject (he had just confessed to being born a commoner and commoners don’t tend to be in close contact with crests so I imagine their crest knowledge would be minimal) helped him out and made Marianne a bit sympathetic towards him so that she would feel bad lashing out.

Now onto the second part, intrusions. Marianne has a strong sense of boundaries and these boundaries act as sort of a safety blanket for her. Someone pushing at these boundaries can make her feel as if she’s in danger and she will respond in anger to protect herself. The first example I want to show is when Claude is pressing her about her birth parents and she says “that is none of your concern.” It’s hard to tell just by reading this line how she’s feeling so I recommend watching the support where you can frustration and anger in her voice (Marianne’s angry tone of voice can be hard to spot due to her being so soft spoken but listen to the Ferdinand line and you can see similarities in the delivery). Linhardt also pries into Marianne’s life similarly to Claude. Here, I feel she is more anxious than angry but I still think certain lines are delivered with a mix of anger and anxiety, specifically when she tells him he “shouldn’t be so cavalier.”

Finally, once Marianne lets her anger out, she is overtaken by a sense of anxiety, likely nervous about how other’s will respond to her anger and if it will have any negative consequences. After her outburst at Claude, her tone of voice instantly changes as she dismisses herself, now sounding much more anxious. Similarly, in her conversation with Ferdinand she tells him to “just leave” and sounds desperate to escape the situation.

Summary: Caspar Bergliez is on summer vacation but is working most of it as his father put him in charge of his flowershop.

Caspar isn't particularly pleased about it but loves to help out his dad so he's not too bummed.

Chapter 1

Caspar rolled his eyes and pushed at his uncle's arm, budging it enough to get out from under it.

"Get off me, Randolph!" He griped, glaring up at the taller man.

Randolph was his step uncle who was visiting for the summer while taking a break from college. His younger sister and Caspar's step-aunt—never mind that she was four years younger than him—had stayed home.

Randolph flashed a smile. Then the bell of the door sounded and the grin widened.

"That's you, dude," he said and took off for the back rooms of the shop.

Caspar, who had been put in charge of his dad's flower shop for the summer to both help him out and teach Caspar some responsibility, watched him go before turning his attention to the front of the shop where a tall teen with dark green hair stood.

"Hey there, dude. Don't get a lot of kids my age in here,” he greeted, “You did mean to come in here, right? Sometimes people accidentally come in here when they meant to go to the pizza place next door. Their sign kinda makes it confusing."

The boy, who had been faced towards one of the shop's displays, turned to look at him and offered him a sleepy smile.

Caspar's eyes widened as he stared.

Who was this super cute guy? He had to be new to town, right? There's no way Caspar wouldn't have noticed him at some point if he'd been living there awhile. Their town was pretty big as towns went, but not that big.

Unless he was just passing through. The thought made Caspar sadder than he had any right to be.

"Oh… hey. No, I did mean to come in here but I don't have any particular need for plants right now. My father just told me that if I wasn't going to help him unpack our things, then I was to take a walk and get to know the area."

Caspar felt a rush of relief at the word unpack. Unpack meant moving and if he had just moved there then that meant he wouldn't be leaving.

"Ah. So I guess you just moved here then, huh? Anything in particular bring you here or just the need for a random change of scenery?"

The teen boy shrugged. "My dad's work."

Caspar nodded. Well, there was a good chance he'd be there for a while. That made Caspar feel happy. Maybe they could be friends.

Sure, he was hoping for more but he didn't want to rush things.

"I'm Caspar," he said, offering his hand to the other. "If your parents aren't homeschooling you then you'll be going to my school. It's the only high school in town."

The green haired boy seemed to study his hand for a few moments before taking it. He shook it more firmly than Caspar would have thought possible with how gentle and soft his hand felt.

Serves me right for judging, he thought. They pulled their hands back at the same time.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Linhardt."

And then he smiled.

Caspar had never, in all his life, seen a smile as beautiful as Linhardt's.

3 - Who is your favorite FE3H voice actor?

I will forever have a soft spot for Chris Hackney and his fantastic job as Dimitri. Absolutely beautiful range shown for one of my favourite lord here. Some scenes are simply heartbreaking and I love this

Also - Cherami Leigh as Rhea ? (chef kiss) This lady has *range* and one absolutely incredible one to boot. She doesn't always voice my faves (*cough*Persona*cough*) but I am always glad to hear her !! And her role as Rhea is amazing, I think she did do a wonderful job, and I'm so glad she gets to voice her in sillier ways in FEH :D

7 - Which side quest / paralogue was your favorite?

Silly answer : Linhardt and Leonie's, because, look, there's nothing NOT silly about it and that makes it really funny to me. Leonie is very endearing in it when she interacts with Indech (want to see more of that), Linhardt being basically just "okay cool Saint Indech just exists" and the FACT THAT YOU CAN BRING DIMITRI EVEN AT THE BEGINNING OF AM ??? just hilarious from an outside perspective

More serious answer : Felix's. It gives you a really good look into his relationship with his father in a way that just works. And. okay the map kinda sucks. but idk. I like it

yay a restock! i asked abt your professor soaps earlier so i'm super happy to see them back :D was wondering if there are any scents from either the fe3h or loz stock that you have a soft spot for / any personal faves :O

oohoo don't get my started...!!! i love all my children but hmmm let's see PERSONAL FAVES i really love the professor scent a lot actually it's this perfect blend of like. cool and ethereal but also gently sweet. yuri is also another favorite - it's like. my second favorite cologne smell ever, so zesty and sharp and charming but very masculine. i love the scents for all three lords even though they're very different - edelgard's is a Very Refined high tea sort of scent, dimitri's is i think... really distinct and hard to pin down, smoky but sweet, like funerary incense, but also dark and hungry. claude's scent is like the wind rushing through the pines, and i LOVE pine smell. >:3 ...i'm just going to end up going through every single soap oh no, BUT QUICK RUNNER UPS: ashe, because his soap legitimately smells like gray clouds on a leaf-tumbled day. linhardt's soap scent is so soft and sleepy but also a little like. disarming, like there're secrets underneath.

good kid. he's like a shonen protagonist who wound up in the wrong franchise. i have a soft spot for the "emotionally intelligent but otherwise dumb as a box of rocks" type in anime and JRPGs and he is that in spades.

i really love his supports with petra in both games; in houses he's nervous that she's gonna hate him bc of the whole thing with their dads but she's chill about it, but in hopes she actually does set out to kill his dad and he does an amazing job of getting through to her

also his A support with hilda where she literally invites him to her bedroom and he thinks she's asking him to do more chores for her is just so on the nose for him. dude drank his respecting women juice

So I'm a new fire emblem fan I'll admit, I've only ever played three houses and three hopes, so I can't speak for characters of the older games :C but I am steadily learning

Out of the rosters of three houses and three hopes, I have to say that I have a deep love for every character and their story! Of course I'm an Ashe fan, head over heels, it's obvious if anybody looks at my account for like two seconds lol

I'm in absolute love with Mercedes, just to name drop another

I have a particular fondness for the Blue Lions, as they were the first route I did and my introduction to the series as a whole

I love basically everyone, maybe the only non-villain character I dislike is F!Byleth

As someone who identifies with he/him pronouns, I played as M!Byleth, so I really love him and I'm biased. Something about playing as F!Byleth for even one route made me uncomfortable, I could make out an entire list as to how I don't like her. Not as in like a "I hate her and you should too!", just as to why I personally wouldn't play as her again

I can love Mercedes for her soft and motherly nature, I love Ferdinand for his ambitiousness, I can love Linhardt for his perceived laziness but he's so much more. I can love Marianne for her story, I can love Sylvain for his skirt chaser self, I can love Caspar for his himbo ways, I can love Dorothea and empathize with what she went through

I'm in love with all the moving parts of this world, it's one of my favorites of all time, aside from Tes 5 (which is a whole other story lol)

Mercedes is very interesting and idk in what way 😭😭 Don’t get me wrong, she’s beautiful and lovely but idk after her supports with Annie, it kinda offset me about Mercie JSJSH Annette’s my favorite female character so obviously i’m gonna be a lil upset when Mercie was being a little too bitchy at her big age towards Annie for trying to protect her 😭😭 Like Yeah!! Mercie apologized but so did Annie, and there was nothing to apologize for HSJSH i’m getting off topic anyways, I do love how she speaks her mind. Especially towards Sylvain, who needs some humbling at times ☠️☠️ I like Mercedes more when her and Annette are together (i like anyone more when they’re with Annette tbh LMAOO) She had a lot of wasted potential in a lot of different aspect but she’s still a good character in my eyes. She’s not some ara ara mommy mage that seduces guys(that pained me so bad to type), she’s literally this going-on-30 year old Bisexual christian healer who’s best friends with the human personification of a Muffin 😭😭😭 ONCE AGAIN TLDR; Mercedes is interesting LMAOO

Nobody asked for this but now that we have all the student trailers these are my actual thoughts on the redesigns (since I know we won't get a trailer for the faculty next week and even if they're unlockable/DLC later I don't trust IS to give them a glow up). I'm only talking personal preference here, no deep analysis into what the costumes signify or whatever.

Edelgard: on its own? It's a cute design, and the hair looks pretty nice in spite of how thin the braid looks. Coming from 3H? Uninspired and bland. The red emperor dress had presence, it signified power, it had that Enormous Bitch Who Will Ruin Your Day energy. I'm not sensing any of that here, it's like they wanted to remind us she's 5'2" and likes teddy bears and probably wears floaties to the beach. 6/10, isn't lower because I like red.

Hubert: massive downgrade. They masacred him for the meme potential. 2/10, would hate it less if his original TS design didn't exist and set such a high standard for Hubert swag, but sadly this is the timeline we live in.

Ferdinand: meh. The hair looks fine but his outfit says nothing. 5/10

Linhardt: Gender/10. The clear winner of the Eagles. He's even wearing a nun collar to boot! May as well be wearing that "I really wish I weren't here right now" button and I love that for him. His whole cozy outfit looks like it would be great for naps. I wish him the best.

Caspar: deserved better. I always hated his TS outfit to begin with, but his undercut gave him a cute shonen boy edge. This hairstyle makes him look like all of my male classmates in middle school, and I went to middle school in the 2000's. I can smell the Axe body spray from here. 1/10

Bernadetta: she looks like an onion. 4/10, and only because I like her outfit and color scheme. No, I don't care that "it fits her".

Dorothea: pretty, but doesn't do much for me. 7/10, but overall a downgrade. The braid is sick tho.

Petra: 9/10. It's grown on me. I like that they gave her sandals, and THE BRAIDS ARE BACK!! Braids good.

Dimitri: 7/10, not great, not terrible, always good to see him with both eyes. His original TS look will always be iconic though. Hard to top that honestly.

Dedue: 10/10. They took everything we love about his design and made it better, gave him his earring back, and gave him a BEARD! AND a BRAID! I am a simple human with simple tastes, and I love everything that's going on in here.

Felix: 6/10. No tsundere thigh highs, no poofy sleeves, he's wearing a bump-it. The hair itself isn't terrible but I got so used to the spiky volleyball hair that seeing him in a hairstyle that actually looks normal feels out of character for him. It's fine I guess, but his outfit is missing that wealthy douchebag energy the old one had.

Ashe: cute, very Ashe, a little bit of gender going on. 7/10, nothing much to say here.

Sylvain: 0/10. They didn't even try.

Mercedes: ara ara/10. Absolute perfection. I do admit I miss the hat, but her hair is so gorgeous she doesn't even need it.

Annette: 10/10. The winner of the Lions. It's like she's ready to open up her bakery. I do still have a soft spot for her old timeskip dress but the hair is very much an upgrade. I want to pick her up and put her in my pocket.

Ingrid: 3/10. I just wanted the braid back.

Claude: 8/10, would be higher if he still had a beard. The color scheme is pretty nice.

Hilda: 8/10, love her look but still prefer the original. I'm glad they didn't really change much and kept it very much her.

Lorenz: 8/10, again not much of a change, he's very Lorenz and I'm here for that.

Raphael: 9/10. It just fits him better than his original TS look. He looks ready to go rock climbing with you. He looks like he would host the sickest barbecue ever.

Ignatz: 6/10. Love the hair clips and side swept thing going on, not the biggest fan of everything else.

Lysithea: 7/10. I will not forgive them for taking the veil away, but the outfit overall is cute, it's just not as great as the original. It's just kinda... plain? Yeah, sorry.

Marianne: 9/10. HAIR DOWN!!! That's it. That's literally the only thing I wanted and I got it so I can't complain. Also she still looks very much like a holy woman, but her hair is short enough that we can see her back window... business in the front, party in the back.

Leonie: 7/10. While I'm happy the short hair is back, the actual haircut itself doesn't say much and would have preferred something much closer to her academy hair. Still a cute design overall tho.

what's your favorite thing about your style

hmmm. people seem to really like the way I draw lines! I used to wish for the courage to draw with rough sketchy soft or translucent lines cuz I think they are gorgeous. but I've grown to like my precise sharp rendered lines

I also like my cel-shaded style, because it's easy to repeat over and over again yet still has room to experiment with different things like painting and filters. it is also very anime :3333

how long do you usually take on a piece

concept + composition: 30-60 min rough draft: 30-60 min underdrawing: 60-120 min inking 120-360 min coloring 30-60 min shading and highlighting: 60-120 min correction and details: 60 min

soooo roughly 6 to 15 hours? depending on how complex the piece, of course. comics will usually take 2-3 weeks with breaks.

based on file creation times, sleepy linhardt took 12 hours to make from start to finish + breaks.

what inspires you

usually existing media LOL - such as films, games, anime, music, other people's art. I just take ideas from other people's stuff and mash them together. That's why you see stuff from me like DnD+FE3H crossovers.

I'm also inspired by stuff that's missing from my favourite media! Like the supports that never existed from FE3H! Felix & Marianne, Sylvain & Petra, Dorothea & Leonie, etc. I love filling in the gaps left by the official writers :333

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment that never fails to put you in your feels? Oh yes. I am a sucker for (1) soft, casual touches, in platonic or romantic contexts and (2) that moment when a loved one becomes aware of a secret, good ones or bad ones. Also (3) reunions!!! Of any kind!!! Sad, happy, angsty, angry, just gimme friends and family reconnecting!!

🛒 What are some common themes/scenes/imagery you incorporate in your fics? I put in a lot of secrets and then secret reveals. I find them entertaining. I also feel like I write a lot of sunsets? The imagery is just so gorgeous, and setting a literal atmosphere helps me ground out a scene, I think. (Kidnapping is also pretty common but maybe that's just whumptober speaking.)

💞 Comfort character? Four for sure. And Hyrule. I connect most with Vio but Red's propensity for hugs and feelings make him a joy to write and read. Outside LoZ, Linhardt from Fire Emblem Three Houses. I just love him so much.

🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer? Probably stuff like intrigue and drama. I don't like it when characters are mad at each other for long or misunderstanding things, and I don't have the patience to come up with complex political plots. And if I'm writing romance, it's probably meant-to-be, no dumb Hallmark love triangle or misunderstanding romance. They're just there and they love each other.

ooh yes i'm very soft for Alois! i've never bestie-married him but i always recruit him because he's a nice presence to have around. i like how he's pretty self aware about being loud and not as funny as he tries to be, but he's still all smiles about it. classic kind of pathetic wife-guy <3 it would be very interesting to see supports with him and seteth where they're talking about very personal things, or ones between him and Edelgard where maybe she warms up to him being a sort of fatherly figure she never got to have?!

Gripes about fe3h... quite a popular one is that the Blions and Beagles don't fight TWSITD. Which I agree with. Out of all three houses, those two objectively deserve to fight them most. Then, I guess it's a little annoying to me that some of the best paralogues in the game require 2 recruits to unlock, for example Shamir and Alois, Leonie and Linhardt, recruits that you probably wouldn't usually go for together (of course, I do really like their pair ups, it's just that in order to get ALL the relics i need to recruit everyone every playthrough... which is doable when you're on ng++++ like me lol, and can just buy Byleth's skills, but....)

but to be honest, now that i've played several older fire emblem games? i definitely appreciate it a lot more. it's a much more casual game, relaxing to play, lovely graphics and music with a lot of character depth compared to early games. i really appreciate that Byleth (and all units, tbh) can effectively be any build. it's a highly replayable game and even though it's not perfect i do love it :)

hold up, actually? the worst part of fe3h is that m!Byleth is ugly and boring. it would almost totally ruin the game if f!Byleth didn't have that cute little head-empty-no-thoughts wide eyed stare.

Title: Not Another Flowershop AU Ship: Caspar von Bergliez x Linhardt von Hevring Chapters: 6 of ?. Summary: Caspar Bergliez is on summer vacation but is working most of it as his father put him in charge of his flowershop.

Caspar isn't particularly pleased about it but loves to help out his dad so he's not too bummed.

Chapter 6

Caspar was staring. He knew he was staring but, considering the fact that his new friend and current date had just told him to kiss him, Caspar thought it was understandable.

"I'm sorry, say what now?"

"What now."

Caspar blinked again.

Did he really just…

He did. And Caspar was quite certain that Linhardt was teasing him at this point.

"You just told me to kiss you."

Linhardt didn't deny it, shrugging as if it were no big deal. "I did. You said you were struggling not to, so I came up with the solution."

He moved closer and leaned in. His voice was lower when he spoke this time.

"I wouldn't mind it, you know. In fact, I'd wager that I'd enjoy it quite a bit, actually."

Caspar blushed at both Linhardt's closeness and his words. Bringing up a hand, he rubbed the back of his neck as he averted his eyes.

"Oh… well. I guess I get that but like… I kinda want to wait… you know… til it feels just right to kiss you?"

Linhardt beamed at that and nodded.

"I personally focus on facts rather than feelings, but I can see that it's what you need so I don't mind waiting. Just know that you have my permission to kiss me anytime you want. Just for tonight, mind."

Caspar nodded, blushing again. His neck felt hot against the hand that rubbed it. He bet the tips of his ears were red too.

Thank God he stopped his teasing, the mint haired teen thought. Linhardt stepped away and held out his hand.

Caspar stared at it.

"Well, come on now. This is a date and you do have to lead the way. I'd also really enjoy holding your hand. But if you'd rather not I—"

Caspar grabbed Linhardt's hand and began to lead them toward the restaurant they'd be eating at. He ignored the flip flopping of his stomach as Linhardt shifted his hand so that he could lace his fingers with Caspar's.

A smile tugged at his face and he allowed it, falling into the comfortable silence between himself and Linhardt. It didn't take long before they reached the little diner. He led the green haired teen in and grinned at the two ladies at the front.

"Hey, Constance. Hey, Hapi. Is Yuri working today?"

"Caspar!" Constance said in greeting, beaming. "Come in. Come in! And who is this?"

"Obviously, it's his date, Coco. Look at their hands."

The ruby haired girl jutted her chin at their clasped hands as she gathered menus and two sets of silverware.

"Ooooh! Caspar you have to tell me how it went later!"

Caspar blushed but nodded. Hapi rolled her eyes but gestured for them to follow.

"In answer to your question, yeah he's working. I'll get you his best table."

"Thanks, Hapi."

"Don't mention it. Seriously, don't."

Caspar glanced at Linhardt as they continued to follow, wondering what he was thinking about all of this. The other teen was not looking at them and instead was looking around, apparently taking the place in.

"Here you are. Here's your menus, your silverware, welcome to Raph's Diner. Yada yada. You get the idea. Yuri'll be right with you."

Caspar thanked her and watched her leave before turning his attention to the boy now seated across from him. He chuckled nervously.

"I think I got so used to holding your hand in the small space of time that I'm already kind of missing it."

Linhardt smiled at him, his gaze soft.

"Oh, well if that's all that’s the matter…"

He brought both of his hands onto the table and reached out to take both of Caspar's hands in his own. He squeezed them once.

"That's better now, isn't it?"

Caspar couldn't find the words. He was a little embarrassed, but also very happy to be holding both of Linhardt's hands. He could only nod his agreement.

It wasn't long until their waiter—a teen their age with lavender hair and eyes, as well as a calculating gaze that rarely changed—arrived, nodding at their clasped hands.

"Date or not, I'm not giving you a discount, Bergliez. This isn't a soup kitchen."

Caspar blushed and glared.

"I wasn't going to ask for one!"

Yuri raised a brow. "No? Why not? You do any other time you come in."

Caspar humphed. "Yeah, well. Life is expensive. But I'm not a cheap date so I'd never ask while on a date."

Yuri didn't seem to buy it.

"On a first or second date."

Yuri grinned. "Now that, I can believe. Anyway, all joking aside, who's this?"

Caspar grinned and looked at Linhardt who was watching their interaction with sleepy indifference.

"This is Linhardt. He moved into town recently and—"

"And you already asked him out on a date? Caspar, honey, just…" He shook his head incredulously.

"Well, technically he asked me out, I just suggested tonight."

Yuri shrugged. "Whatever works for ya, I guess. So what do you want to drink?"

They gave their drink order and Yuri left them to look over the menu and get their drinks.

"Your friends seem nice. Loud, but most people are loud in comparison to myself so that's not saying much."

Caspar grinned. "Yeah. And these guys aren't even my closest friends, but they're pretty cool."

Linhardt chuckled. "Then I look forward to meeting your even cooler friends someday."

Caspar met his eyes and saw that the other truly did look forward to it. He could see interest and attraction and happiness. Linhardt was actually happy to be there with him. That made the mint haired teen very happy.

Yuri returned. The two ordered their dinner and spent the time in between bites to talk and get to know more about each other. They were so lost in conversation, Caspar hadn't realized how late it had gotten.

"Oh. We didn't get to go to the bookstore."

"Bookstore?" Linhardt, who had been getting visibly sleepier as the date progressed, asked. He seemed a little more awake now.

"Yeah. It's the main book store in town. My buddy Ashe works there."

Linhardt smiled. "Well, we do have the whole summer. We can go tomorrow if you like?"

Caspar beamed at that. "Like a second date?"

Linhardt chuckled but nodded. "Provided this date continues to go well and ends smoothly, I see no reason not to have a second date."

Caspar's grin grew wider.

"Deal! Let's get this paid and I'll walk you home."

The meal paid, the two left the diner and Linhardt took Caspar's hand into his own this time, lacing their fingers from the get-go. The mint haired teen found himself suddenly sad as he remembered that Linhardt would be leaving at the end of the summer.

Well. If he only had a limited amount of time then why was he being so careful? He should enjoy the time he had with Linhardt, not bemoan his future departure!

That decided, he stopped them as they reached the corner of the sidewalk.

Linhardt had looked down at him and their eyes met. Time seemed to stand still and silence seemed to echo around them.

"Caspar, what—"

Caspar never found out what exactly it was Linhardt was going to ask. Maybe if he was okay. Maybe to tell him something he'd forgotten to tell him at dinner. But as long arms wrapped around his waist and his own arms wrapped around Linhardt's neck, the two deepening the kiss he'd initiated, Caspar decided it really didn't matter.
