do you have a bruharvey comic reading list ?
Lmfao I personally feel like every Harvey-centric comic is somewhat a BruHarvey comic if you squint 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This list is in no way exhaustive and I'm pretty sure I've missed out some very important stuff but nevertheless, this is what I could think off at the top of my head:
Disclaimer: I'm bad at continuity. And I won't call some of these excellent writing but they did give me all the delicious bruharv moments.
Batman - A Lonely Place of Dying - Some nice parallels between Batman and Two-Face were made in here when they're busy trying to outwit each other. This is mainly focused on Bruce's angst post-Jason's death and it is rather delicious for the angst-lover. And also origin story for Robin Tim.
Batman: Year One - That infamous scene where Batman hid under Harvey's desk. That's it. That's big reason enough for you to read it. (Harvey is also exceptionally hansum in here. Will always be one of my fav Harveys).
Two-Face: Year One - Chummy college days, Bruce hanging out at Harvey's office late and night and also the one where 2F didn't listen to the coin and spared Bruce's life :^)
Batman: Eye of the Beholder - The one where Jim introduced Harvey to Batman and then they started hanging out together and left Jim out. JK JK JK LOL but it sure felt like that 🤣 In all honesty though, this is one of--if not--the best Harvey story out there so please read it anyway!!!!
Batman: Face The Face - This takes place sometime after Batman: Hush (where if you recall, Harvey betrayed Tommy to save Bruce's ass uwu). Harvey is somewhat "cured" now that his face is fixed. He go about protecting Gotham in Bruce's absence. And oh, Harvey recalling the 30 days whirlwind of a romance with Bruce where they trained together and also went for dinner dates and movies (I KID YOU NOT)---and obviously got 2F very upset LOL.
All-Star Batman: My Own Worst Enemy - The one where Bruce and Harvey went on a cross-country trip while being handcuffed together. Also a look into their childhood together at that very weird school lol
Batman and Robin #24 - #28 (The Big Burn) - This is 2F's origin story for current continuity. The one where Harvey called Bruce a Prince (while looking at his own reflection on a knight armour) and Bruce called Harvey "dummy" affectionately. Also here we learn that Harvey had known that Bruce is Batman since forever and has been protecting that secret from 2F.
Detective Comics #989 - #993 (Deface The Face) - My beloved Gotham Justice Triumvirate reuniting and working together!!!! The ending to this arc truly fulfilled my love for that chasing game between a hero and a villain tbh uwu
Detective Comics #1020 - #1024 (Ugly Heart & Prelude to Joker War) - It started out weird enough with 2F having a cult of some sort and having real weird erotic ritual involving the coin (lbr you know I'd join this cult in a heartbeat LOL). Again, this arc emphasized on Harvey's struggles to protect Bruce and his identity from 2F. And Harvey teaming up with Bruce to beat Joker's talons!!!!! It ended with 2F being suppressed and a somewhat "reformed" Harvey in Blackgate being visited by Matches. I like this arc for a lot of shippy reasons lmfao ("Promises, promises" hehe)
Detective Comics #1062 - present - The current craze. An excellently written Harvey by Ram V and Simon Spurrier. I look forward to where this is heading! (As of now, seems like Harvey has stopped making an appearance but I sure hope he'll come back again!!!)
ADDITIONAL MENTIONS
The Doom That Came to Gotham - This is a depressing Elseworlds story with Lovecraft elements but the BruHarvey in here is absolutely golden and even more so in the movie version.
Batman 1989 Newspaper Comics - I have yet to go through this tbh but there are a lot of good bruharv moments in here and thIS ONE RIGHT HERE I s2G GETS ME ALL THE TIME
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THAT IS ALL!!! Thanks for asking me this because now I have a proper record to refer to since I'm so bad with arc names and issues etc 🤣

would you do platonic ships???? 👀 nami x luffy and nami x sanji. i think luffy and sanji would both be very supportive of nami after she comes out as a lesbian. every time a random guy tries to hit on nami, luffy runs and screams “SHE’S A LESBIAN!!!!” luffy is way too honest but he’s got the spirit
you're asking me literally the best things ever!!! i'm gonna kiss your forehead c'mere--
i'm INSANE for platonic ships. most people don't often pay attention to the beauty of nami's relationship with the guys (especially with sanji and luffy) since they're always being shipped romantically with her. they make me physically unwell. they're so so so important to me. if i could talk about platonic sanami and platonic lunami all the time without it constantly being seen as shippy, believe me, i would be the most annoying person on this site.
btw, i literally choked on my drink while reading what you said about luffy yelling "SHE'S A LESBIAN!!!!!!!!!" because it's so damn real and canon and it's so fucking funny to picture him just- running from one side of the room to the other while yelling that,, he's so protective. maybe too intense about it, but yeah, he's got the spirit!
luffy and nami's relationship is actually really important to me personally because her story and background really resonate with me. i cried so damn much watching arlong park,, not gonna go into detail here, because you all know how important their dynamic and relationship are in canon, but they make me ill. nami spent years without having any friends because she didn't let herself trust others and even less, let herself deserve to have friends. and luffy just appears like a motherfucking ray of sunshine and helps her get out of that toxic and harmful situation she's in. she's herself with the crew. she can be rude and harsh sometimes to keep them in place and yet they still see her as the sweet, fun, caring girl she actually is. she is a thief and a menace and a bit of a bitch (in the BEST sense of the word) and they all know she's always going to be there for them. and she knows they're going to be there for her, too, always. the fact that luffy is always looking after her and protecting her no matter what? the way the first thing that always comes to his mind whenever they're in danger and he has to leave, is to tell either sanji or zoro to look after her for him? it makes me want to curl up and sob. it's not that he thinks she's weak, it's that he knows her fighting style is more to defend herself or others only when needed, and he won't let her be in danger like that. she's the brains, he's the captain. that's HIS navigator. i love the platonic possessiveness of it all. i love them clingy and sappy and holding each other whenever they are sad and always supporting each other. currently, i'm watching wci (everyone knows this because i'm the most annoying sanji fan so ofc i won't shut up) and the fact that she didn't run away when luffy told her so and stayed with him to fight?? the way she stays with him after the fight with sanji???? they are so,,, i just love them so damn much i'm gonna cry. and this is just the example i choose NOW because i'm in a wci mood, but i could talk about them for hours.
i love platonic clingy lunami. i want him to hug her like a koala. i want her to kiss his forehead when he's asking for attention. i want luffy to come to nami when he's feeling bad about something. i want nami to fix the straw hat while he sleeps on her lap. i want them to sleep together and cuddle and-- that scene in punk hazard where she casually feeds him???? that was so cute (this happening while the kids where literally crying makes everything funnier lmao). they understand each other so so well and they're both so protective of each other,,, it's INSANE. it also has to do with the fact that the romance dawn trio will always be at least a tinyyyy bit more personal and intimate than the others, being the first crewmates and all. never forget strong world for giving me so much lunami content. luffy loves her so damn much,,,,,,
she puts luffy in his place whenever he's acting a bit too stupid and he supports her no matter what. i think that's beautiful. because she's always labeled as scary when she gets mad (i mean, understandable) but he still sees her for who she actually is. and it's,,, so,,, so beautiful,,,
and as a lesbian??? i'm not gonna go into detail as to why lesbian nami is important to me because then i wouldn't shut up in ages, but she is so so so so personal to me. and luffy would be so damn supportive of her it makes me cry. in fact, i love the headcanon of the monster trio being all protective when it comes to men flirting with her. because she might know how to handle men to get what she wants, but sometimes guys just fucking suck and they will try to have their way with nami,,, and uhhhh that dude will probably end up dead. don't flirt with nami if you're a boy because you'll probably most definitely die in the hands of these three protective boys.
besides, there's nothing more personal and intimate than the friendship between an aroace and a lesbian. mutual 0 attraction to men, and full room to act clingy without it having to mean anything. i love them to death.
and yeah,,,,, sanami. platonic sanami. don't get me started on platonic sanami, i might actually die before being able to finish writing this whole thing.
i just,,, they make me,,, they make me so happy,,, i,,, cuteness and happiness overload,,,
i hate that i can't talk about them without people thinking it's romantic. I DON'T WANT THEM ROMANTICALLY I WANT THEM TO BE CLINGY AND SUPPORTIVE OF EACH OTHER IN A VERY PLATONIC HOMOSEXUAL WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there's nothing more powerful than a lesbian and her golden retriever simp who's also a wet cat and would do anything for her. and oh! turns out the guy is actually very very genderfluid and bisexual and has so much trauma regarding gender and sexuality comprehension that she needs to help him get out of that mindset.
tl;tr: sanji bi trans is so repressed he needs a lesbian to help him.
the vinsmokes fucked up his mindset so much and tbh zeff's views on masculinity (love him tho, he's a great dad) didn't help either. but it's fine because nami is there to help him!!!! her!!!! them!!!! any pronouns sanji, woo-hoo!!!! ivankov would be proud. (projecting my genderfluid lesbian ass in this whole thing lmao)
anyway, the thing with platonic sanami is that i think they're perfect for each other. he simps for her but not only because she's pretty, but because everything nami is. he's constantly talking about her brains and strategies and he knows how fucked up her life has been and how strong she is. he admires her so so much,,, and tbh in my mind, where transfem genderfluid sanji is a thing, they admire her bc that's exactly how they want to be (using all pronouns here for her bc why not, c'mon). and nami might be a bit uhhh tired of sanji's behavior, but she loves him nevertheless. she went through so much during wci, watching sanji fighting with luffy and having to witness it??? when she slaps him in the face and doesn't use 'sanji-kun' like she always does?? it killed me. it hurt worse than a fucking breakup. and then she tells him that she won't let him go away again, and,,, it broke me. she cares so so much for him. she knows he's had a very fucked up life too. they make me go insane. he respects nami and cares about her opinion the most, and i'm tired of people always seeing their relationship as "funny simping guy x mean girl" NO!!!! SHUT UP!!! THEY'RE BEST FRIENDS AND THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO SO MUCH!!! THEY DESERVE TO BE HAPPY TOGETHER!!!!
forever thinking about how the code for the fridge is nami, robin and sanji's birthdays combined. they literally just- sat together and thought about a code. and they're the only ones who know this. it's so cute,,,
he respects and admires nami, and nami understands why he acts the way he does. and it's,,, so beautiful,,
i think that once she's helped him figure out his identity, they'd be even closer. i'm a sucker for clingy platonic relationships, as you can see, and them finally being able to be clingy would make me so happy. i enjoy sanami fanarts and content only bc i see them like that. they're so real. lesbian/trans bi solidarity.
also, we talk a lot about usopp and nami being gossiping besties, but i think nami and sanji would be the same. they judge you from the other side of the bar. they talk shit about you. be scared of the judgemental gays.
thriller bark. whole cake. skypiea. they have so many moments there,,, they make me so happy. whenever sanji saves her or whenever he's worried sick about her? i die. people die. it's me i'm people and platonic sanami kills me every time.
and you haven't asked me about these but shout out to usopp and zoro also being nami's protective besties. they all love her to death. don't hurt nami, you'll probably die.

PLeaLSE gage headcanons LITERALLY ANYTHING fluffy I BEG
*cracks knuckles*
Separated into normal, shippy, and miserable. Everything nasty is below the big red banner.
Will whistle at songbirds when he sees them, if its safe to do so/won't attract anything. Knows a lot of different calls/songs. One of the few times a random person will see him genuinely smile, is when he gets a back-and-forth with the little things.
Have said before, but enjoys whittling. Crotchety asshole, but he did it to make toys for his younger siblings (of which he had a lot) and friends. If a kid wanders up while he's doing it, curious, will offer to teach them how and gives them whatever it becomes. He doesn't need it, it's just wood. But it seems a waste to just chuck all that work in a bush or whatever.
Knows how to be helpful in a kitchen/campfire/general cooking affairs. Also said this before, was a mama's boy, and always helped her around the house. Very good knifework. Has a habit of going 'behind' whenever he's...well, behind someone while cooking. Their kitchen was small and god forbid you bump into Ma and she spills something.
Knows a lot about creepy-crawlies. Dislikes your standard wasteland bugs, but spiders, bees, ants, stick bugs, etc, from the Old World? Like snakes, very into them. Would be the type to approach arachnaphobes with his hands closed, telling them to guess what he had. It would be nothing. But you wouldn't know that from his grin.
Related, good with animals. He was raised on a farm, after all. Likes most of them. Out of all of the other companions, Dogmeat is the one he likes the most.
Also have said before, but will keep an eye on a buddy/associate/whatever if they're drunk. Like, Gage won't let you walk off with a stranger while you're pissed. And he certainly won't let a stranger walk off with you, if you catch my drift. He hates alcohol and alcohol drinkers, but fuck, he doesn't want that kind of shit happening. It's a remenent of being the eldest child, gotta look out for everyone even if they're pissing you off.
shippy stuff
Extremely physical, but reserved. Won't initiate anything, not even to hold hands. Rarely acts like he needs/enjoys it. It takes time for Gage to be open like that, visibly affectionate. Once he is, though, clingy. Cuddle-every-night kind of guy, doesn't understand why you'd sleep in the same bed if not touching.
Cat-like. Will kinda...nuzzle, bump their foreheads together, lean his head on theirs, etc. If this is brought up he will stop doing it forever.
Will fall asleep if given a massage. Gage would let someone touch him like that only if he trusts them more than himself. Its not a much bigger leap for him to fall asleep with his back to them.
Preferred sleeping position is laying on his partner in some capacity, either on their shoulder, chest, stomach...again, cat-like. Not often he initiates affection, but once he does, personal space is a foreign concept.
Hug-from-behinder
All of these have something to do with sleeping, you might notice. Gage does not let people see him sleep, know where he does it. The ultimate sign of trust from Gage is being unconscious around them. And if he wakes up unharmed, unfucked with? It would take a fucking lot for that person to lose his loyalty and love. They're basically married now.
Seriously, Gage doesn't do 'downtime'. He can't relax like that. It's his partner's presence that helps him feel safe enough to rest for the sake of resting. Doing nothing is more meaningful to Gage than doing anything. Gage is always going, or planning his 'going'. Getting him to stop is a triumph.
Will share food with them. Have half of this fruit, eat the rest of this stew, finish these eggs for him. Won't even realize he's doing it. Gage is kind of a control freak, always wants to make sure everything is running well, taken care of.
His partner helping him shave his hair. Just consider that. Consider them with their hand on his jaw, tilting his head. His stubble scratches their fingers. Their hand is so close to his throat, they could feel his slow pulse with one little movement. In their other palm is a razor. They stand behind him, diligently scraping. His eye is closed, his own hands idle in his lap. Maybe someone talks, maybe they don't. The bathroom is small and the door is closed, and Porter Gage gives them sharp metal and bares his throat.
^ this is the lewdest, vilest, indecent, most embarrassing thing I've ever written, and I once wrote a fic where character A was described as using character B's prostate as a "character V deserves better" button.
❗trigger warnings start here❗
S/A victim and will not recognize, acknowledge, process, or accept it
Part of the thing with Conner...Gage says how Conner made him feel, how closely they worked together. Even if you get that story out of him, he's not going to mention just how close they would get.
Same thing happened with Colter. Gage always wants to be close to the boss, the guy making the choices. He thinks its of his own volition with Colter—but either way, Conner and Colter got theirs. Regardless how Gage felt about it.
Had something of a drinking problem when he was younger. Did it mostly to feel mature, adult. This stopped when he joined his second raider gang, after the Conner incident.
Every so often, has an episode of some kind. Angry, manic, depressed, paranoid—its very rare but Gage gets into these spells that last about a month. They usually involve him looking over his shoulder, so to speak, looking at the path he took to get where he is. Looking at the shadow he has and the demons in it. Thats largely why Gage is a workaholic, always going. If he stops, he might glance at all of the shit he's been through, and he loses his mind for a while. No one knows, it's wholly private. Gets through his day normally. Its all in his head, no external expression. Nothing in his face, his tone, movement, behavior...you couldn't never see it. You'd only know if he told you. God knows he wouldn't.
Another thing he won't acknowledge—misses his family. Absolute fucking liar, he was really close to them before bailing out of the blue one night. He didn't think about it until he almost died to Conner, and had that one moment where he seriously regretted leaving, and wanted to go home. He rarely ever thinks about his family, and even more rare does he recognize the empty hole in his chest as homesickness. When he does, has one of those episodes.
These episodes end with Gage hardening even further. He shaves off a little more of his humanity each time, whatever he considers a weakness. Its just like whittling.
His emotional walls are a two-way street—it keeps everyone else out to protect himself, but it also cages him. Build up enough walls, you have a labyrinth. You'll lose your way around eventually. If not found by a Sole, or anyone else who befriends and gets close to him, Gage would end in a bad fucking place. Whether dead or alive, he would barely be a person. Just a husk with no rhyme or reason to what it did, running purely on autopilot. He's a raider, so he raids things. No thought of survival or anything like that anymore. Mechanically going through each day until he eventually died. He's about 3/4s of the way through this internal withering at the time of the Nuka World DLC.

I wanna ramble about some Bunny thoughts that aren't necessarily very shippy but I guess are partially why I find them as a ship so interesting.
(CW: Child Abuse )
So, I'm of the opinion that none of the South Park parents are actually very good parents, that's the main reason I don't often talk about them, since I don't wanna let my own dislike for them as people come across like I don't appreciate them as characters.
That being said I feel like most people might hesitate to unanimously label the majority of the SP parents as outright abusive, minus for The Stotches and The McCormicks.
For me, this makes for a very interesting dynamic, because it gives Kenny and Butters some common ground that they don't have with most of the other characters.
Building off of that, their situations are similar in theme, but far from identical in execution.
Kenny is the middle child in a financially struggling household, his parents are constantly fighting and physically abuse each other as well as their kids, he's even been shown to be desensitized to his parents arguing. He's also been parentified in how he has to take care of his little sister, and is psychologically abused through his parents degrading him, either for refusing to go to church or for failing to bring home money when he got a job. (I mean forcing a 9yo to get a job in the first place is pretty yikes but you get what I mean )
Butters is an only child in (what I interpret to be) a fairly financially stable household, with parents who more often than not run their home like a well oiled machine together, they're also physically abusive but the abuse they employ the most frequently is psychological, enforcing very specific rules and very harsh punishments when they are broken. (Like when Stephen got mad at him for not organizing the pantry right, so he poured ricerroni into his coffee, even though he could have, looked at the box)
I sort of always interpret Kenny and Butters situations as a mirror of the other, with Kenny's household primarily employing physical abuse with some instances of psychological abuse, and Butters household employing primarily psychological abuse with strategic physical punishments.
Kenny's environment is chaos that he's grown accustomed to, there isn't any rhyme or reason to what he goes through, and the responsibilities he has are unfair for a kid his age. That being said, I feel like he at least has some peace of mind in knowing that it's his parents who are the problem.
Butters on the other hand, might be a different story. His environment is structured neatly and securely, or at least he's told it is, there's always a reason given for why he's being punished, even if he had no way of knowing beforehand, he's always informed of why exactly he is the one at fault. He's a very sheltered child, and though he may from time to time think he's being treated unfairly, he might hesitate to believe he could be being abused, because don't his parents treat him well outside of when he's being punished? You couldn't well say he's neglected, he plays multiple musical instruments, knows how to tap dance, and entered at least one dressage competition, all of which require lessons, so money and time from his parents. All of this considered would probably make Butters perception of his parents very confusing for him.
I know this post mostly comes across as me pointing at these two like "Hey, look how fucked up these kids are" and by no means do I feel like their shared trauma is the only merit to their dynamic being interesting, but it's something I often find myself thinking about, and rarely really see explored as in depth as I would like.
Like, to what extent do they know about each other's experiences? Could they maybe find solace in each other's experiences, or would they get hung up on the differences? Maybe a mixture of both where they find comfort in each other only after coming to terms with the fact they may never fully understand what the other went through, even if it seems similar? Idk man, I just like the idea that these fucked up kids could be happy together.
I like the idea that they might hurt each other accidentally because they're humans who have been hurt, but they make the effort to do better by each other because they care, and they want to be together for as long as it feels right.
I feel like this is just a bunch of random thoughts strung together but it's like almost 3 am

2022 Rare Pair Fic Rec List
It's the end of the year which means it's finally time for the ML Big Bang's yearly fic rec lists! We're really excited to bring you our contributors' favourite fics started this year to supply you with plenty of reading material while you're waiting for the Big Bang fics' publication in January.
Alya/Nino
Strangely Familiar by @sunfoxfic 79,676 words, Teen, 30/30 chapters
Alya Césaire’s life is perfect. Indeed, between the success of the Ladyblog, how well she’s doing in school, and the fact that she’s a superhero who has never bore the weight of a crisis of epic proportions, her life almost couldn’t be better. Almost. But Alya has always been a go-getter, and so she’ll chase after that perfect life if it kills her. Which is how she ends up rushing to move out of her father’s apartment and in with Marinette, Adrien, and a complete stranger: Nino Lahiffe. And in fact, her life does seem perfect — she and Nino are fast friends. They spend a lot of time together and get to know each other really well. But in the end, fortunate situations will bear unfortunate truths, and she learns things about herself that aren’t quite comfortable. Like I said, though: Alya has always been a go-getter, and she won’t let new feelings deter her from chasing after her perfect life.
"DJWifi centric with great Core 4 dynamics as well, really interesting Nino & Alya characterisation and interactions and identity shenanigans and aaaahhhhh"
Trust your instincts by @ultrakart 2,380 words, General, 1/1 chapter
Alya has the instincts of a fox. Nino finds it hilarious.
"Funny animal instincts DJWifi fic. Perfect :D"
Laughing at her Laughter by @sunfoxfic 634 words, General, 2/2 chapters
Now that Nino knows Alya has the Fox Miraculous permanently, they're able to try something they always wanted to do: Switch Miraculous. For one of them, at least.
"A very sweet kwami-swap! AND it has beautiful bonus art!"
Pigs and Purposes by @azuriteartist 863 words, General, 1/1 chapter
Nino and Alya discuss responsibility and sacrifice.
"We stan kwami swaps so much and this conveys so much with so little."
Adrien/Nino
in which Adrien braids his boyfriends hair by @ck2k18 986 words, General, 1/1 chapter
"I could do your hair for you,” Adrien offered. “I-if you wanted.” Nino turned to look at him. “You want to cut my hair?” Adrien shook his head. “Not exactly. I mean, I could try but I don’t think you want me to, unless you want to end up bald,” he joked. “I was thinking I could braid it.”
"Adrinino is so good and it's so sweet!!! I love a good ole hair doing fic!!! (especially when there's talk of future kids!)"
Marinette/Alya
Is it chill that you're in my head? by @bring-the-storm 8,217 words, Teen, 1/1 chapter
Alya stared at the picture plastered across the homepage of every single tabloid and news site, whispering every curse she could think of under her breath. SHOCKING SECRET ROMANCE BETWEEN LADYBLOGGER AND PARISIAN SUPERVILLAIN REVEALED!!! the headline announced, casually shouting the words she had been dreading for all of Paris to read. --- Alya had always assumed that someday Paris would discover that she had secretly been kissing their most wanted vigilante, but she had never thought it would happen so soon. As the domino effects of her relationship with Ladybug go spiraling through her life, Alya turns her sights towards the one responsible: the elusive superhero Hawkmoth. AKA Someone outs Alya and her girlfriend so she retaliates by deciding to take down Hawkmoth
"A very enjoyable read! As the tags say, it's basically an episode of a show; it's a bit funny, a bit plotty, a bit shippy. A very clever story!"
Marinette/Kagami
We Don't Need Roses by @coffeebanana 5,308 words, Teen, 1/1 chapter
Kagami’s days at the tattoo shop have gotten a lot more exciting since the flower shop opened up next door, bringing Marinette into her life. But no matter how close the two seem to be growing, Kagami can’t help but notice that something is holding Marinette back.
"Marigami. Mainly fluffy, but there's some angst that really rounds it out. Tattoo parlor/flower shop AU. What I liked most about it was the characters backstories, especially Marinette. Also Kagami is a useless lesbian."
Marinette/Chloé
the memories that you went and tossed away by @sunfoxfic 4,965 words, Teen, 1/1 chapter
Marinette Dupain-Cheng suffered from an accident that caused amnesia. Now that lycée has started, she's back in school, and Chloé is trying to make sense of her own problems, but Dupain-Cheng keeps getting in the way, and she can't figure out why. It's fine; everything's fine.
"An angsty, one-sided crush story that is satisfying and enjoyable, even without a happy ending. It is very well written!"
Alya/Kagami
darling (the composer has stepped into fire) by @theladyfae 1158 words, General, 1/1 chapter
Kagami likes Alya. She still isn't sure whether Alya likes her or not. This is a problem, when Alya's mere presence flusters her more than it should.
"READ FOR EXQUISITE GAY PINING"
Adrien/Lila
A Little White Lie by generalluxun 1,199 words, General, 1/1 chapter
A nervous Lila Rossi shows Adrien her room, and things take an unexpected turn.
"Wonderfully written and deeply emotional, the way you can expect from his fics. Short, with a twist that hits hard for maximum impact. A must-read for all of us who don't like Lila."
Luka/Chloé
broken guitar (with a little c minor sting) by noirshitsuji 2,175 words, Teen, 1/1 chapter
For the White Elephant Exchange at the Miraculous Writer's Guild: Give the LB and CN miraculouses to two characters (who aren't Marinette and Adrien). *** “Has nobody ever warned you about adopting strays, Couffaine?”
"The dynamic of Luka and Chloe in this is tasty and I have grown to be extremely fond of the writer's particular style. They're very good at subtext and insinuation and nuance."
Luka & Marc (QPR)
just wanna stay for the night by @asadweeghostie 246 words, General, 1/1 chapter
He keeps trying to not touch them, like little love notes as he eyes his favourite one. Lyrics about love and friendship written next to his keyed notes.
"There's something about this fic that always feels like home to me. I'm aware that this is a queerplatonic relationship, but the way it's written and how it's talked about brings up the possibility for a future romantic relationship, so I feel that maybe it's more fitting here. This author is one of my favorites; the way they write and express relationships is so endearing."
NSFW works
Félix/Kagami
Blood Will Tell by @sunfoxfic 30,352 words, Mature, 11/11 chapters
Kagami Tsurugi is pregnant. More precisely, Kagami Tsurugi is pregnant and Félix Fathom is the father. After spending months as "friends with benefits," neither knows what to do, and both are panicking in their own emotionally suppressed ways. And as the worst happens — both in their heads and at their hands — they uncover more than they thought they could handle; but the story is not over, and what doesn't kill Kagami only makes her freakishly motivated to be better tomorrow.
"A raw fic that is exploring accidental teenage pregnancy and all that comes with it. It is gently but realistically showing the often-glossed over discussions about abortion, while not straying too dark and being very "readable". The prose is gorgeous as well!! Chlonette: An angsty, one-sided crush story that is satisfying and enjoyable, even without a happy ending. It is very well written!"
Luka/Adrien
I've Got Friends on the Other Side by @inkmousey 6,796 words, Explicit, 1/1 chapter
Father Luka only tries his best to be a devout servent of The Lord. Adrien, a Succubus, wants to see Father Luka on his knees saying his name like a prayer instead.

Just thought I’d let you know that your onslaught of Back to the Future content inspired me to rewatch the movies this weekend, which was such a delight :)
Do you have any fic recs, by any chance?
ah glad to hear it!

Marty wonders if Doc has the same problem; histories overlapping, memories colliding in the space of a single, shared moment. He hopes not.
a 'marty deals with having 2 contradictory sets of memories' story
Inevitable by nbfutureboy
It's a bizarre twist of fate. When they’d found out they’d been expecting twin boys, Jennifer had suggested, sensible and sweet, that they pick out two new names. No comparisons to the kids of the first 2015 - they could be their own people, without having to compete with a future memory.
very sweet fic about trans marlene mcfly!!
The Man in the Box by makesureyouwashyourhands
People said the strangest things about the McFlys. They said that Marty McFly went to bed one night and woke up a different person. Or, the two Martys: how they differ, and how they're the same.

First Impressions by Kristen Sheley
To say that he had been surprised when the kid had showed up that evening at his doorstep was an understatement. He hadn’t ever imagined anything so fantastic, and his was a mind that had visualized a lot of unrealistic and fantastic things! But a seventeen-year-old time traveler from the future was never one of them. Equally surprising to him was that this kid was apparently a friend of his. What a sixty-five-year-old was doing hanging out with someone so young, Emmett could only wonder. Maybe Marty was a student of his, from the University.
an oldie but a goodie!! absolutely banging bit of missing scene work from the first film w doc & marty adjusting to each other in 1955
The Longest Odds by leaper182
Marty McFly just had two more years to go before he could start thinking about the future.
But then the odds shifted, and the only future he has to think about now is whether he'll make it home alive.
wip not updated since 2016. not a whole lot of this one as it looks like it didn't really get off the ground but the central concept (tribute marty + former victor mentor doc brown) is just gutwrenching and im going to be rotating it in my brain forever!! ETA: totally failed to clock the ship tag on this one oops!! its tagged doc/marty but i don't remember anything shippy happening in the chapters posted. read at your own risk ig.
that's all for now!! i got more stuff in my to-read so stay tuned hopefully!!!

Cut the crap, Hamlet! My biological clock is ticking, and I want babies NOW! (Elogium, s2e4)
I get the sense that "Elogium" is an episode that viewers find embarrassing. Maybe I am just projecting my adolescent feelings onto the internet consensus. It is certainly somewhat hamfisted, but it also belongs to a genre that we might call "reproductive health body horror" and, like... I'm kind of into it?
The premise of the episode is, of course, that space alien radiation causes Kes to enter estrus. (Unaccountably the Ocampan word for this is "elogium," which is a real Latin word for something else. Okay guys!)
Let's get the "bad science fiction watch" out of the way: Ocampan reproduction makes no sense from a population biology point of view. If an Ocampan couple can only reproduce once, they need to have a multiple pregnancy to maintain population levels, not the single child Neelix seems to be contemplating. (Also, having kiddos at age five means that grandparents would often not be around to participate in elogium rituals, as the Ocampan lifespan is 9.)
Additionally, it's hard to know what to make of the revelation that Kes hasn't reached "puberty" yet. The show seems to be decoupling intellectual/emotional maturity from reproductive capacity, but we are left with some very awkward questions about Kes's relationship with Neelix. Like, sex aside, what does romance mean for a young Ocampa? This show doesn't dare ask the question, such is its fragile allo/amatonormativity.
Still, I thought Jennifer Lien's performance was strong - emotional and a little weird while still respecting her character's personhood. In an important scene (one that frames her relationship with the Doctor as a parent/child one, thank god), she questions whether she wants a kid and makes a self-affirming decision that I loved to see, though I wish it had been dramatized more fully.
And, like, occasionally, having a uterus does make you feel like you're in a dirt-eating fever dream. I don't know if the alien physiology metaphor will work for everyone but I sorta dug it.
Tumblr media
Neelix is, of course, trash in this episode, with the return of his jealousy subplot, his dreadful gender essentialism, and the extremely cliched portrayal of him as a reluctant father. His "should I be a dad" dilemma is fundamentally relatable, but instead of showing a real dialogue between a couple that's been avoiding the question, he and Kes start the episode with gender normative beliefs (she wants a baby, he wants adventure) and switch positions after some extremely light self-reflection. They're never on the same page, and they don't make the decision together.
On a happier note, this one's shippy! The episode starts with Janeway and Chakotay having one of their ridiculous whisper-conversations on the bridge. People are (shock!) hooking up and they need to decide what to do about it. This is very weird and silly because both Starfleet and the Maquis seem cool with fraternization, and they're 70,000 light years from home. Surely there is not even a conversation to be had, other than a need for some policies and mental health supports around breakups? But we do get Chakotay asking his extremely impertinent question about Janeway's personal dating plans, and the introduction of the Janeway chastity vow.
It makes sense for Janeway not to date crewmembers, especially in light of her commitment to Mark (this episode was originally slated for season one). But what about Chakotay? He is also everyone's boss?? I think that even in the 23rd century people should still not date their bosses, but this show does not seem to know this and it bums me out, particularly because of the gendered double-standard here.
(Mollie watch: Janeway is looking at a Mark/Mollie photo in the final scene. The show wants us to believe she's pining for her man, but honestly I think the baby talk is just making her miss her doggo. In my head canon Janeway is the type of person who responds to all child-rearing anecdotes with stories about her dog.)
Tumblr media
Ensign Wildman, and her pregnancy, are also introduced, and we get another J & C scene where Janeway affirms the crew's right to have kids (hashtag reproductive justice) and contemplates the possibility of becoming a generation ship (whoa, slow down, lady! Like, of all the ethical questions about having kids while space marooned, assuming they'll continue your mission for you is quite a leap!)
Tuvok's line "It appears we have lost our sex appeal, Captain," sums this one up: despite all the innuendo, this is a very unsexy episode, and I think that's by design. Family planning is often unsexy! I just wish it had gotten a little closer to contemplating the real issues that emerge from our dual natures as people with bodies and people with agency over those bodies, and the push and pull of figuring out what that means for us, individually and in relationship.
3/5 bowls of mashed potatoes with butter (a Terran delicacy!)

Very excited to see you excited, don't worry! A lot of FOB fans are very DL about liking particularly those two in a shippy way because we're all older and trying to be normal and people haven't always been normal about it, but my inner 14 year old still lives and she needs to see people like yourself lose their minds over these small gestures that mean the world to me. Shipping aside, because this whole band means the world to me and I'm a little anxious, I'm always secretly worried they're more colleagues than friends, so Patrick mentioning in that interview how they've learned and internalized how important it is to stay *friends* and not just be [voice full of disdain, the way Patrick says it] business associates, is so important to me. Sorry for the little ramble! In short, I'm so happy about it all.
Buckle in, this gets rambly and is probably completely unnecessary for the response you were looking for OH, WELL, THAT'S ME RIGHT NOW.
I am also always very worried that they might not actually like each other and it's all for show, and then I think: Why should I care? You know? Like, I write a lot of fiction about these two that I know is fiction, so why should THAT be the fiction that bothers me, that they don't actually like each other at all and it's one big massive performance?
And I think partly it's because what we want from bands is some little reflection of the joy that they give to *us,* you know? Like, you want the people in your band to love the band as much as you do. And sometimes it just doesn't feel that way. But you cling to the hope that no, no, they love hanging out at concerts as much as you love going to them. Think of that gifset where Pete says something like, "When people tell me my band saved their life, I get it, because my band kind of saved my life, too." That's such a compelling thing to say because that's an acknowledgment, like, I get why you think this band is important. It's important to me, too. And it's important for fans to feel like their band members find the band important. Our relationship with music is always an intimate relationship, and so it heightens how we view the bands we follow. They're with us at the most intense moments of our lives, and we want it to be mutual. You know? And this is why we want so badly for these people to really like each other, because we really like them, and isn't it so great when everybody is happy together?????
All of that wishful thinking established, I do think Pete and Patrick are genuinely friends. I think friendship looks different in your late 30s and early 40s than it does in your 20s, especially once you have kids. You talk to your friends less and you see them less but you still consider them friends, even if you only get to have dinner twice a year, even if you only text every so often. Pete clearly has a lot of friends he hangs out with a lot, golfing and playing tennis and going to theme parks and whatever else he's always running around doing. None of these friends ever seem to be Patrick. Patrick...doesn't seem to ever leave his house hahahaha. Or at least is very private about doing so. And so it's always hard to know how much hanging out they're ever actually doing, because it tends to seem to happen in secret, and we only ever see the end result of it.
But over the years I've gleaned a lot of stuff about how they interact to make me realize that Patrick just isn't that guy who does a lot of the random hanging out that Pete seems to thrive on. Like, Pete has a line in an interview somewhere where he says something like, "I figured out if I wanted to see Patrick we had to get together and write, because he doesn't just hang out." But it wasn't said like Patrick doesn't hang out because Patrick doesn't like Pete, just that that's not who Patrick is. And Patrick also says something in an interview at some point where he's like, "I will never go to anything but Pete always invites me and I always appreciate that." Idk, they feel like two people who each understand how the other operates and it works for them. Like, that's what makes it feel less performative to me. They aren't out for the cameras a whole lot. But they write a bunch of music and they kid around on stage.
Pete's clearly a savvy guy who figured out a long time ago that he could play up the relationship between him and Patrick and it would be A Thing, and he could still be doing that. When he posts sentimental little pictures of the two of them, when he wishes him happy birthday, when he talks about destiny because his grandfather was stationed on the U.S.S. Stump, like, this could all be performative stuff to keep that fanbase going, and that's all fine.
But I also think that's just because it's performative doesn't mean it's not true. You know when you're young and you have a close friend and you think that the two of you are just the best, cleverest, funniest people in the entire universe? And then you *perform* that for everyone to see? That feels like Pete and Patrick when they were young. And I bet you no longer perform that with your person. But that doesn't necessarily mean you stopped being friends with them. You just grew up a little bit and stopped performing as much. Or, if you're Pete Wentz, you never outgrew performing and just do it in a different way.
Someone said to me at one point that people have been saying Pete and Patrick secretly hate each other for as long as there has been a Fall Out Boy (in the same way that Fall Out Boy has been sellouts for as long as there has been a Fall Out Boy). If they hate each other, they have put up with that hate for a looooong time at this point. They had zero reason to put out another album right now, after this long break. They might be desperate for money but they shouldn't be, given all their side gigs. It's a lot of effort to keep pretending to like someone you don't like. Or at least don't like all that much. I doubt either of them feels like doing it at this point in their lives.
Idk that they loom as large in each other's imaginations as I think they probably used to, but that's just growing up. I think they *do* appreciate each other in different ways, and that is *also* growing up. But yeah, all the same, it's always nice to see them really look like they like each other. I could actually go on and on with the evidence I have gathered of instances where they act like people that are friends because it's so important to me, but this is already way too long, but anyway, yeah, I think they're friends, not just colleagues, and that's nice because it's always nice to think your band likes itself as much as you do.
(Also, like, the shippy thing, I have a whole ~~thing about how our society's emphasis on romantic love being The One True Value devalues all other relationships in our lives and that's why when we see people have important relationships we kneejerk ship them because we've been trained by society to think that's the only way people can value each other and I do think that's an important thing that is definitely at play in shipping but I write so many shipping stories that I don't feel I have a leg to stand on to actually interrogate that hahahaha I can just say, "Yes, society has done this to me, I am just perpetuating the problem, oops")

Hey Poorni, I mostly just lurk here but sometimes check in with your account and am always blown away by how quickly and drastically you change your mind on so many people and ships! Like on a Wednesday you'll post several times about a pair being a notp and by Thursday you're praising them as an otp and reblogging them constantly and then by Friday or Saturday you're disliking them again lol. For example, you've gone from going on about how much you hate Neia to suddenly calling them an OTP lol. A few weeks ago you didn't like Zaya at all and now they're like your biggest OTP ever. You liked Kitty and then hated her more than anyone I'd ever seen and then will swing back to liking her. And so on. We all change our minds about some ships and characters, and it's great to have an open mind. I'm just curious what causes you to go from hate to love to hate to love again on so many characters and ships so quickly---is it based on rewatches, reading other people's metas, Or do you just kind of wake up feeling totally different than you did the day before? You can ignore if you want to, I'm just always into learning about what makes fans tick, and you changing your opinions so frequently interests me!
First of all, I love long asks so ty for sending this haha!
Secondly, I wouldn't exactly saying that my love for characters and ships change day by day. It's actually the opposite most of the time where it's very drastic.
Like with Kitty, as a kid I liked her but then I saw a few threads on her and I was like 'ok she is kind of annoying when I think about it'. Then rewatching at like 16-17 (i think 17 tbh), she's very irritating and I feel like she's glorified WAY too much (especially in t7s). So then I started having more complex feelings but then after a few more discussions with my friend Sunshine and rewatches, Kitty is actually pretty fucking annoying. She babies Eric and literally never sees him as an adult, slut shames Donna for having sex with Eric and seems to think Donna "corrupts" him. And don't even get me started on how shitty she treats Laurie. I know Laurie is far from perfect, but no one deserves to have to hear their own mother say 'i love you because I have to' and 'Rosemary made a better baby than me'.
It sounds like I'm overreacting but honestly idc. Kitty is not this sweet little good cop to Red's bad cop and she sure as hell didn't have any "character assassination" like Jackie, Kelso, and even Eric did in T9S.
With Zaya, I really loved them as a kid but then hated them because of the shit Zig would pull on Maya. When I did come back to the fandom for good, I had moreso complicated feelings where they're pretty toxic but they can be good together and I'm glad they're endgame. And then I started looking at more Zaya stuff (mostly from Ashton haha) doing rewatches, which made me go back to loving them full force. I still have love for Matlingsworth, Camaya, Zori, and find Zesme interesting at times, but I love Zaya a lot too and I'm glad they're endgame.
As for Neia, I don't think I had much of an opinion on my first watch. I might've been annoyed by them. But I did prefer Jeia over everything. And when I got to Tumblr and did more rewatches, read fics and all that, I was really just done with Neia. My main issue with them has always been how they fucked over Nikki and don't even get me started on how ooc Gwen's advice to Leia was on handling that shit. Plus I didn't see any substance with them aside from having the same wants. Then I ended up being moreso fascinated by the idea of Neia crashing and burning, leading to a Jeia/Geia endgame.
There was a short period where I really wanted to be more open minded with Neia, so I tried looking at the more shippy stuff but I just couldn't do it haha. But eventually I tried again, hence me shipping them now.
Don't get me wrong, my issues with canon Neia are still there. Especially the substance parts, but I personally blame that on the writing more. For all Lindsey's claims of loving Neia, she sure doesn't act like she loves them. Until the 9th episode, they didn't have any alone time. Which, by a writing person, doesn't make sense because Leia is canonically best friends with Nate's sister AND in the dame friend groupl. Not to mention, Leia dated Nate's best friend, yet they don't interact one on one till the NINTH episode? Not even like them accidentally bumping into each other. Like come on!
Short answer: Metas, rewatches, (rarely) discussions, etc.

hi, one of your Stargate anons here (it feels like you have a few of us xD). i knew about your @jackandhisspacemonkey blog! i follow that too, it's a very good blog ♥ i adore Jack and Daniel's relationship, they're great together (even if i'm more of a low-key shipper when it comes to them)
also, i have started on Universe! i've only just finished episode 6 (Light, it's very confusing with Air being one or three episodes), but i'm enjoying it a lot so far. i'm also very much enjoying Robert Carlyle, he really is amazing. (i had also forgotten just how pretty he is, oof.)
aaaand i had my first really shippy sgu moment in Light too, when Young said "well done!" and ruffled his hair and Rush looked all, well, like he did. i like their relationship in general, and i have a feeling i may ship them once i'm done xD
Young wasn't an automatic fave for me like Rush was (but that's entirely Carlyle's fault, Rush was shifty as hell and i just adored him anyway because Carlyle xD), but he's quickly getting there with his voice and his softness and his special cane. tbh, i'm actually curious to how my feelings about him will change once/if he gets rid of the cane, it feels like it affects a lot, that cane.
this quickly got very wordy, but yeah, just wanted to give you a little update and tell you that i'm still very glad you and your great gifs got me to watch Stargate, even if it means i'm reading McShep fics all night and having Emotions about Rodney x'D ♥
Ohh more than one gater nonnie👀
I am so happy my gifs made you to watch stargate, and maybe one day I will rewatch atlantis and even all of stargate and gif more of sg in general, maybe I will even look at atlantis from different side this time, like sgu.
ah, light, it's such a good episode, love every interaction of young and rush there, right until the very end of the episode
that moment, still can't believe it was real, like I still think I read it in a fanfiction not watched in an actual tv show lmao I need to gif it, and I will.
Tumblr media
as Robert Carlyle said himself they needed a man who makes dislikable things likable, so he is the man :D he is reaaally good
I think it is harder to like Young in the beginning, the hairstyle does not help either lmao, but you just get to know him and by the end of the show he is really good, I love that very tired man with curly hair, who is like a dad who needs a sleep but can't get it cos the kids are knocking on his door all the time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
just give this man a day off and some socks pls
anyway, hope you enjoy the rest of it as well, cos I really do enjoy it on my rewatch, I thought I will be hating it, cos I did not remember much, but the feelings I had while watching it back in 2013, but I like even the characters I disliked back then, like the kids, I mean everyone who are not Rush\Young\Wray\TJ :D
and I remember it was bad, but honestly, I love it now.
When you have a ship you're obsessed with, and suddenly everything becomes better lmao

Hilary, I’m requesting 73. “You do have a stupid face” for Garcia and Wyatt because it’s perfect for them. :) Shippy or gen. But no pressure, and only if you have time and interest. 😘💙
Thank you for considering it—and thank you for your political posts, too.🤗
They've been drinking for a while, steadily, since Wyatt brought over the six-pack and they've sat in silent commiseration in Flynn's hotel room, staring over the San Francisco city lights. Normally, three beers are only enough to get Flynn to the edge of buzzed, but what with everything, his tolerance is shot and he’s approaching genuinely tipsy. They haven't said anything. There's nothing to say. Far away from the bright lights and breathless news about Connor's funeral, the question as to how Mason-Carlin Industries and Silicon Valley itself can stand to go on, all that Flynn can hear is the endless howl of rage and blame and grief in his head. He said, he swore, he was never going to let this happen again, and now it has. What the hell does that make him?
"So," Flynn says, startling both of them with the sound of his voice in the antiseptic rush of the air conditioner. He drains the last dregs of the bottle and sets it aside. "Rufus is never going to forgive me."
"Aw, come on, man." Wyatt sips meditatively, not looking around. "I don't think so. Rufus loves you, and it... it wasn't your fault."
"Valkyrie killed Connor. Iris -- " Flynn almost chokes with grief over his daughter's name, how little he has been able to utter it aloud, like something that's going to evaporate into mist and darkness yet again, and leave him to wake up with nothing. "Iris works for Valkyrie, and I didn't -- I didn't stop her, or it, or them. I just kept thinking that if -- "
"Hey, man. Hey." At that, Wyatt looks at him, his face slanted in strips of light and shadow from the venetian blinds. "You saw what was in front of you, you wanted to save your daughter, and you did whatever you had to do. I'm pretty damn sure that I'm the last, the last member of this fam -- this team -- who gets to tell you off for that. Connor knew the risks. We all did." He pauses, amends. "We all do."
"Maybe." This doesn't soothe the fevered part of Flynn that's still desperate to blame himself, to take away the pain from everyone else, to at least give them the satisfaction of throwing the guilt at a familiar enemy. He's not, not anymore, but sometimes he thinks that it would be easier for all of them if he was. "So what does that make us, then? A couple of total idiots who keep being selfishly willing to burn down the whole world, if it gets our dead kids back?"
"The idiot part definitely isn't in question, huh?" Wyatt's mouth quirks, very dry. "Look, I don't know what's going to happen with Iris, and I don't know what's going to happen with S-Sarah." He stumbles a little himself. "But at least we know that they're together, right? When we went to Macau and met Ching Shih, when Iris was trying to save her. So whatever we screwed up, at least they met each other in Valkyrie's future. Maybe that's worth something. They were there for each other, even if we couldn't be there for them."
"Yes, I suppose, but -- " At that, Flynn stops, looking at Wyatt in astonishment. "Wait a minute, did you just say something helpful?"
Wyatt shrugs. "It's been known to happen. But honestly, don't be too hard on yourself. Fatherhood is hard, man. Fatherhood with fuckin' time travel? Even worse."
"You're not wrong." Flynn is forced into a reluctant chuckle. "I -- thanks, Logan. Truly. For the beers, and your stupid face."
"Oh?" Wyatt arches an eyebrow. "That's the thanks I get?"
"Well, you do have a stupid face." Flynn feels a little better on this familiar territory of sharp-edged bickering, and knows that Wyatt has steered it here on purpose, to give that comfort and take his good-natured lumps, the way they don't actually want to hurt each other anymore, not really, not now. "But I appreciate it."
"You're welcome." Wyatt says it simply, without pretension, then gets to his feet. "I'm going to take off now. Don't get into too much trouble. I'll see you at work tomorrow."
Right, Flynn thinks. Work. As if anything can be the same without Connor, but they're going to have to carry on. See the fight through to the end. Stop Valkyrie, and save Iris and Sarah. If it's possible. If they still can. Garcia Flynn has never particularly been an optimist, or seen the best in people, or any of that cheery stuff, but the one thing he does know is how to fight past all human understanding, for what he believes to be good and right and true. He can't stop now. None of them can. In that, Wyatt's right. All of them, Connor included, knew what this was going to cost. The only way to honor him is to pay.
"Are you driving?" Flynn asks. "You've had three beers too, so -- "
"I'll get an Uber." Wyatt smiles crookedly. "Don't worry about me, buddy. Get some sleep."
When he's gone, and Flynn is alone again in the vastness of the silence, looking at his suitcases and his scattered things and everything else that he hasn't dared to unpack out of fear that he's just going to have to run again, he lets out a long breath, shucks off his crumpled funeral suit, puts on his pajamas, and settles on the bed. He didn't think he was going to sleep at all tonight, but maybe he will. And for that, he's grateful to, of all people, Wyatt Logan and his undoubtedly very stupid face. What was it he said, or started to say, before catching himself? This fam -- this team.
Well, Flynn thinks. Well then. How about that, indeed.
And at last, for now, he rests.

Retranslation and Analysis of That Fight Scene
So firstly, I just want to say the subs are not bad and convey the general meaning very well, in a way that sounds natural in English. That being said, there's always some things that get lost in literal translation, and I really want to demonstrate how much depth the Japanese in this scene actually has for Karma and Nagisa's characters.
Basically the TLDR point here is that this fight is very much not about Korosensei. This is completely platonic, I promise I resisted making any shippy points.
Karma: Hey, Nagisa kun, aren't you getting extremely carried away?
Nagisa: Eh? (definitely surprised and bewildered)
Karma: The number one strongest assassin in Class E is Nagisa kun, isn't it? (uses yo here, which suggests confidence in the statement). Are you (very directly yourself, your own thoughts) wanting to quit assassination? Let's think about the talentless others who are desperately trying their hardest to kill him. When you put it like that, it's like a woman who 'has it' telling the ugly ones that they should honestly quit being so desperate to get a boyfriend, that kind of feeling?"
Tumblr media
So some interesting analysis here is that Karma says "zuibun", or extremely, when the original translation is "a tad". The translation feels more natural in English, however it kind of makes me feel that Karma's trying to make more of a point. Nagisa has the right to be making suggestions and stepping up, but he's gone so far this time it's crossed a line.
I think 才能がないなり (talentless, saino ga nai nari) is also very interesting. Talent is the best translation, but if you look at the kanji very literally, there's "genius" and "ability". This specific word choice more implies that the other assassins are good, but Nagisa's just another level. Japanese grammar is confusing at best, but essentially 'nari' means become. So you take this as kind of like 'students who couldn't develop genius ability'.
The repetition of 'desperate' is also pretty interesting, linking the examples together better. It emphasises the point that they're kind of at a loss with. He also doesn't directly say attractive woman, he says "motteiru onna", which essentially means the same, but is literally "a woman who has (no object given but essentially 'it'). This more directly reflects to what he's saying about Nagisa, he HAS talent, this unspecified natural quality that makes him better than everyone else without trying.
There's also a lot more rhetorical questions in the Japanese, which got combined into single sentences in the English. The "let's think" thing is very literally what he says, like he's wanting Nagisa to actually consider his thoughts for himself.
Nagisa's original argument and intention may have been about Korosensei. Karma may be genuinely opposed to saving Korosensei. But that isn't the point of Karma's argument at all, he's making this about Nagisa because he's reached a limit with the both of them.
In order to spare you, more under the cut.
Nagisa: T-the aim wasn't... Above all, for assassination, your understanding is always better than mine
Karma: Saying that directly (take with slight pinch of salt - he could have also said "fixing your statement") is irritating. In reality, isn't it that you yourself are the most powerful, and you can't comprehend the feelings of weak humans?
Nagisa: That's wrong (also using affirmative yo here)! That's not what I said! These are my true feelings! Do you hate Korosensei? We went to see a movie together with him, didn't we have a variety of great times?!"
Karma: That's why, that octopus did his best to come and make a fun classroom every time, and didn't give up like Nagisa. Without bloodlust, this classroom wouldn't have been built. Can't you understand the effort?! It's not just your body, are you still a fresh elementary school student?
Tumblr media
One thing to note here is that Nagisa isn't actually finishing his sentences. You can absolutely tell what he means because Japanese makes sense like that, but he's still dropping words. Or when he does say a full sentence, they're very short statements. He is desperate here, trying to prove a point he can't actually voice into words correctly.
The context here is that this is before we know their full backstory. Nagisa admired Karma, and he can't quite say it right yet. He thinks they're on different stages still, and Karma is frustrated because Nagisa doesn't see the point.
Karma, after all, does have this inhuman image of Nagisa in his head from years ago. The image of Nagisa looking like some kind of snake demon as he kills Karma in his sleep. He genuinely still, here, believes that Nagisa is purposely hiding this. That's why he keeps putting words into Nagisa's mouth. He's also cutting him off at points, not listening at all to what he's truly saying.
At the same time, Karma starts talking down to him. Instead of saying 'no' (how you'd end a sentence to a friend), he starts using 'kai', which is condescending and how you'd speak to a child. There's an argument here to be made for Karma doing this as a kind of defence mechanism too, but that's very complicated. At this point he really is just trying to get to him.
They are not arguing about killing Korosensei, not at all.
Karma: Huh?
Nagisa: *does the creepy eye thing*
Karma: Eh? What are those eyes? You with the social standing of a tiny female animal, are you defying a human?
Nagisa: I was just...
Karma: If you have a complaint, how about saying it after you win a fight for once? It's aimed at me, so come on. C'mon. C'mon. C'mon!
Tumblr media
This is actually one of the most significant changes to the original.
This is the thing, Karma was never calling Nagisa a tiny mouse of whatever, he was just comparing him to one. Because he knows very clearly that Nagisa isn't like that. He sees that look in his eyes and it prompts him, in his frustration, to finally try and bring it out of Nagisa. He's trying to prove a point.
But then Nagisa stops himself. He lets go of his bloodlust for a moment, defaulting to Nagisa as we know and love him, literally turning his head away from Karma.
But Karma's too far gone at this point, he's dragged stuff up his past feelings about Nagisa, the ones he's been hiding for a year to be tentative friends with him, and now he can't let them go. He needs to see Nagisa's darker side plainly, no matter what that means.
It's also important that he says "it's aimed at me". I think this is a little deeper than literal. I think what he's implying here is this entire thing is somehow aimed at him, like Nagisa's trying to strip everything away just for his own perspective.
Obviously at this point Nagisa snaps and chokes him.
Nagisa internal thoughts: Even I...
Nagisa: I'm not going with half my feelings!
Karma: This guy...
Tumblr media
This is also pretty significant. I'm surprised they cut the "even I" part because that says a lot about Nagisa's current feelings. He still doubts himself. He's aware that he's a pacifist, that he's got a lesser social standing, but Karma's put him into a position where he has to stand up for himself. And this is important to him.
Karma smiles when he says "this guy", getting ready to punch him. He feels like he's succeeded, in a way. Though at first he looked genuinely surprised Nagisa actually did it. There's a certain kind of satisfaction that finally he managed to bring Nagisa's 'true' self out.
Obviously at this point they get separated.
So what does all of this actually tell us? Well, pretty clearly here, this is just Karma's issues coming to light. But also a very helpful and useful moment for Nagisa's development as a character. Whether we agree with Karma using him as a punching bag or not, it genuinely does force Nagisa to get some self agency for once.
Karma and Nagisa will never be characters who sit around and talk honestly about their feelings. But even if they're using a whole situation to mask the fact that they very much are discussing their relationship here, it is still a significant moment where pretty much all the barriers they've been putting up against each other drop. They're just still not entirely on the same page through this scene.
Nagisa thinks Karma is just looking down on him and trying to pick a fight. He's baffled and confused as to why Karma feels so strongly against him.
Karma, on the other hand, thinks Nagisa is better than them all and is frustrated when he 'purposely' acts like he isn't. Karma still feels lied to from when they were kids. And he wants to expose it all, to get Nagisa to understand the position his skill puts him in. I honestly don't think Karma ever thought Nagisa was less than him at all, he just knew it would be an easy way to get a reaction. See how he flips tactic from "you're the best here" to "you're a tiny animal" when Nagisa just went into denial the first time?
I'm not going to go into the whole of their actual full fight, but there's some interesting points that reflect back on all of this.
Korosensei saying "your own answer is right in front of you", basically demonstrating that this entire thing really is just Karma and Nagisa
The entire point of the fight was to get one hit in with a knife, but Karma decides to just continuously beat Nagisa instead. Which yeah, is pretty ineffective. Pretty much proves again that it wasn't about just taking a victory.
Karma took Nagisa's hits on purpose, maybe it can be argued that this is trying to make things last longer, to get Nagisa to actually work for it.
Nagisa demands that he listens to what he has to say. And that's right, because Karma was cutting him off originally.
Karma is a super strategist right? And he was genuinely shocked that Nagisa didn't use his bloodlust to take him down. This is Karma. Sure, he's allowed to make mistakes. But this is odd for him. He was so caught up in his own perspective of Nagisa just having that skill that unfairly made him better. But Nagisa literally throws that skill out and beats Karma on his own level, pretty much disproving him. Maybe Nagisa has this special ability, but he's also worked just as hard as everyone else. He's trained to know what assassination means.
Beating Karma like this, on a 'human' level, was pretty much it. Karma stopped fighting back when he realised that, because he was disproven, and pretty much every wall he put up against Nagisa got literally choked out of him. Karma is already known as kind of an ass and a dirty fighter, you really think he'd worry about the others not accepting it if he stabbed Nagisa fair and square? If he cared that much about killing Korosensei, he would have just done it.
Their fight was never about Korosensei.

hello! this is very very niche, but a brosis pair i've always been fascinated by (though not necessarily in a shippy way tbh) are kai and sakura from the manga sakura hime kaden (direct translation would be the legends of princess sakura) by tanemura arina. they are prince and princess in old japan and also moon people (which they don't know for a long time), with sakura, the younger one, being engaged to prince aoba since she was a little child. they're always all alone, however, their parents having died when they were very small, so they've only had each other for a long time - which caused sakura to be canonically in love with him when she was a kid, and she talks about him as her first love in the manga. kai "dies" before the events of the manga, but in reality, his death is orchestrated by the emperor to make sakura more lonely and as such more prone to falling in love with the prince she's engaged to once she'll finally meet him. due to this betrayal, kai turns against the humans and embraces his nature as a moon person, changing his name to enju (though sakura keeps calling him kai once they reunite), and he's seemingly the main villain of the manga, trying to get sakura (who is now actually in love with prince aoba) to join his side and abandon the humans. it is stated that her love for him was unrequited as he sees her just as a sister, not as a woman, but to be honest, these lines are very blurred - he's very obsessed with her post becoming enju, very possessive and jealous, and he also made himself a lover out of a soul in a gemstone, giving her a body and face that looks canonically just like sakura (it's a big theme throughout the manga, that rurijo looks just like sakura, and they're two sides of the same coin - with one of them being enju's sister and the other one being his lover, while rurijo always talks about how much more enju loves sakura, and that she wants to be sakura for real to be able to get enju's true love). so yeah, they're not really "canon" and also don't end up together, but she had canonical feelings for him at some point, and he's literally fucking a girl he created to look just like her. enju and sakura can be seen together on the cover art of volume 4 of the manga! the art is gorgeous, and it's one of my favorite manga series.
Tumblr media
Thank you for sharing about these two, Anon! That sounds like a very emotional and intense journey their relationship goes through and it sounds like a very beautiful manga.
That's highly suggestive about the lover he created that looks just like her. I mean...

•lil mikako and yamato who are arguing over what they should watch so hanzo just puts the news on
•they work things out after that
•mikako doesn't rlly know when her bday is so yamato has decided they're twins now.
•hanzo later finds out but. *shrugs* they're having fun so what does it rlly matter?
•lil mikako learned how to b a exorcist after getting interested in ghosts bc she always scared yamato with ghost stories
•yamato got his passion in inventing when he started working on ways to wake up mikako in the middle of the night while he slept so he could efficiently pester her; interrupt her sleep while he was off peacefully resting
•they used to go exploring in hanzos workshop, they'd act all sneaky and would make up little games to play
•hanzo was vv aware of what they were doing but figured letting them play was better than exposing them
•bc then they'd get better at sneaking, and he may not realize they had snuck in until they were in dangerous areas
•yamato and mikako came to the very firm conclusion that mikako was a disney princess. because like,,,, fuck ya parents + found in the wilderness and taken in. so. logic.
•then completely forgot abt it - until they decided to have a disney marathon in high school.
•they both remembered at the same time, and just stared at each other
•pov: ur hanzo watching sleeping beauty with ur kids and try to figure out why they both have this: 👁👄👁 exact expression
•are u even really siblings if u didn't argue over who dad was more proud of to see get into hopes peak?
•mikako: hm yeah i guess it makes sense he'd be prouder of u since its more of a surprise that u got in
yamato: yeah!!
yamato: *loading*
yamato: W A I T
•mikako has a hobby called revealing all of yamato's nerdy passions to anyone he dates
•yamato repays the favor by barging into the room to tell mikako he found her body pillow she needs to sleep as she's watching netflix with her gf
•they call a truce,, mostly
•yamato: mikako if she doesn't let me be best man at ur wedding i'm gonna break our truce so she realizes how lame u are and breaks up with u
mikako: if she doesn't let u be best man i'll break up with her
yamato: :'0!!!!
•used to put on tons of plays and stuff for hanzo as kids
•both totally still have tons of their dances they used to do memorized
•lil mikako/yamato would sometimes be woken up by the others sniffling after a nightmare, bc they shared a room for a good while as mikako first got sorted out.
•cue hanzo hearing noises in the kitchen, going to investigate, and finding yamato putting away chairs used to boost them up so they could reach cups/ingredients while mikako stirs some hot chocolates for them both

You get Persona 4, because I bet someone else will send you and ask about Yakuza :)
As of replying to this, no Yakuza ask has come, but I'm waiting. ;)
I'll state few things from the start because we're in Tumblr and I don't wanna get cancelled because of some misunderstanding: As most of the characters talked here are underage by shipping I mean teen-appropriate stuff like hugs, kisses and nice words, and if I say I like character it means something like me thinking they're cool both in attitude and looks and I might wanna hang out with them platonically.
I'll also strike over some lines that might be spoilery so if you're reading this without knowledge of series you might wanna skip 'em.
the first character i ever fell in love with: Kanji! And you knew it coming as soon as I got into the game, didn't you?
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: I had some not-so-nice thoughts of some of the stuff Yosuke said, but I mean considering the game is old and Japanese I could still think of it as bad writing and maybe translators being uneducated rather than the dude himself being gross. Also Adachi.
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I don't really have all that strong shippy feels of this game. I guess I kinda liked the idea of Protag/Kanji but then Naoto came to play and they're much better suited with Kanji than Protag.
my ultimate favorite character™: Kanji my boy!
prettiest character: Yukiko. I really dig that ice-lady who's actually quite cool (pun intended) once you get to know her. Also cute laughter.
my most hated character: Besides the obvious hatred for Adachi, I'm gonna say I had some nasty vibes from uhh hwhat was her name again... Ai Ebihara. But I'd still say hate is too strong word, dislike's better.
my OTP: Kanji/Naoto
my NOTP: Anything involving Nanako 'cause she's just a kid! If Kanji/Yosuke is a thing that's also no (I have a feeling this is a thing). Even when I excused Yosuke's lines somewhat, slapping him together with Kanji and pulling the good old "Yosuke's only like that 'cause he's in denial about him being gay himself" is awful idea.
favorite episode: The camping trip was really wholesome and chill change of phase in the midst of all the chaos. Also lots of hilarious things happened.
saddest death: Without spoiling, the one from bad ending at the hospital.
favorite season: I don't think this one's appliciable here.
least favorite season: skippity skip this as well
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: I'm not that much in the fandom so I'm half-guessing here. Rise. And again, dislike is better word for this than hatred.
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Teddie!!!! Sure he can be one annoying fucker but also very precious.
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Nanako, absolutely. Also Kanji, mostly that Yosuke didn't have to bully him.
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: Nothing comes to mind, sorry. I guess closest thing to this could be Protag/Kanji? Like I like the idea of Kanji with Naoto the most but I'm also greedy so I wouldn't oppose being able to romance him in the game.
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: Well I mean all of the ships of this game. Maybe once I play it again some time I might wanna get more invested and actually write a small fic or two (no promises tho!).
