Princess Glimmer and the Day of Many Choices: I'm not working FOR you, but I will work WITH you. (14/?)
"You and me as equal queens," Catra said and held out her hand. Glimmer gave her a surprised look, then a nod which contained both respect and challenge.
"You got game, Horde scum. I like that. And it's perfect. Your old Horde buddies would not take kindly to be bossed around by a princess, but they will listen if the orders come from the Fright Zone."
"You overestimate how beloved I am by the rank and file," Catra smirked, but her tail twitched.
Tumblr media
"You have yourself a deal, my Queen," Glimmer said and took Catra's hand. "The first thing to do is..."
"Stop it right there," Despara said and stepped in between them. "I just pulled Catra out from the Horde. I'm not letting you put her back just because it suits you."
"It won't be like that," Glimmer protested. "This time we..."
"What do you mean, 'you're not letting her'?" Catra demanded. "I make my own decisions, thank you very much."
"'Your own decisions' almost killed you and ended with you brainwashed by Horde Prime," Despara said with dark voice. "And the moment Glimmer crooks her finger..."
"Hey," Glimmer protested. "I'm trying to..."
Tumblr media
"I get that you got a hero-high from rescuing a poor little damsel in distress," Catra said and barred her teeth, "but if you for a moment think that..."
Tumblr media
"Im not letting you self destruct one more time."
"That's rich coming from..."
"SHUT UP FOR A MOMENT SO I CAN... OOOOOOF!"
Suddenly, the three of them went from shouting at each other to being knocked out and entangled together in a net.
Tumblr media
"Thank you," Bow said and with deliberate care chose another arrow and nooked it. "Now, if perhaps I can say something, I would just like to point out that the three of you love each other and can do anything if you support, trust and help each other, and that if you don't do that I will personally lock you up in the hot springs of Mystacor until you can behave."
"We don't have time for rest," Glimmer protested. "There's too much work to do."
"I don't love Sparkles," Catra protested.
"Yeah, right," Despara muttered.
"What is that supposed to..." Catra begun, but Glimmer managed to turn enough in the net to put a hand on Despara's.
"Hey, Ador... Despara," she said with gentle voice. "I'm not taking her from you."
Tumblr media
"It's not like that..." Despara mumbled.
"No, it's OK," Catra interjected. "It's only natural to be jealous of someone as cool as me. But don't worry, I'm not running away with a glitter bomb now when we FINALLY got together."
"As if you'd have a chance with me anyway," Glimmer sniffed.
"Hah, you'd come running if I crooked a single finger," Catra bragged.
"You'd have to do better than that," Glimmer smirked.
"Is that a challenge, princess," Catra grinned.
"You're not exactly making me feel better about this whole thing," Despara said with dry voice and crawled out of the net.
"The point is," Catra said and crawled after her, "that I'm not a little meek kitten you can control... and, honestly, I don't think you'd want that anyway." She and Despara traded a grin.
"Also, Sparkles is right. We CAN do something about the whole mess Etheria is in right now. We can make it BETTER. And if me sitting on Hordak's stupid daddy complex throne is what it takes... hey, that's pretty much our childhood dream right there, isn't it?"
"There wasn't a princess with us in our childhood dreams though," Despara grinned.
"There totally should have been," Glimmer said and teleported out of the net. "So we agree then? The three of us, ruling together?"
"Fine," Despara agreed. "But if I even for a moment think you'll start self destructing again, Catra, I'm putting you on a leash."
"Promises, promises..." Catra leered.
"I do have another net arrow right here," Bow said with level voice.
"That won't be nessecary," Glimmer laughed. She fluttered her eyelashes at him. "...at least not yet. Did you get access to Horde Prime's broadcasting system."
"It's ready to go," Bow said and put away his bow with a little bow.
- - -
"Citizens of Etheria," Glimmer said. "The war is over. Now we enter a time for peace. There will be much work to do, but to usher us into this new era I now happily announce a new alliance. Between the thrones of Brightmoon (and the princess alliance), the Fright Zone and the Crystal Palace." She took a step back and took the hands of Catra and Despara. "We have all on occasion found reasons to be enemies. Now we - and all of you - will work to build a stable peace. Together."
Tumblr media
"Good speech," Catra said after Glimmer was finished. "Now for the nitty-gritty."

Where Do We Go Now?
A She-ra: Princess of Power 2018 fanfiction
The war is finally over. Prime is dead, the hive mind is broken, and everyone is reunited with their loved ones. However, there are some questions left unanswered. What will be the fate of Catra and Hordak? What are these new memories Wrong Hordak has? What is Etheria's place in the wider universe? Where do we go now?

Chapter 21: Secrets Left Unsaid
Everyone stood still and stared at Hordak. He was looking at the ground with a blank expression; green blood dripped out of his fists and onto the floor. In his mind, time had stopped, and the only emotion he felt was panic. No one was supposed to know. It was to be swept under the rug and never spoken of.
“Hordak?” Entrapta wrapped her gloved hands around his bicep.
“I apologize,” he undid Entrapta’s hold of him, “I will be on the ship.”
“Oh no. With that reaction, you’re going to tell us what happened!” Mermista stood in front of him, impatiently waiting for an answer.
“It’s irrelevant information.” He attempted to walk away, but he was pulled back by the tug of an overall strap.
“If it’s so irrelevant, why don’t you tell us?”
“BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO!” he roared, baring his teeth. His eyes were fearful, and his breath was short. Hordak stormed off into the ship leaving the stunned group of Alliance members.
___________________________________________________
Hordak had locked himself into his bedroom in Dryl, wrapping his hands in white bandages stained green from his blood. Why did I react like that? A million other responses floated in his head. He could have given any other excuse, but no. He had to act irrationally. His father’s voice materialized in his subconscious: Those foolish flights of emotion will lead to your downfall. He was right.
Why do I always have to fail at the simplest of tasks? Now, he’ll never be able to show his face to the Alliance without the immediate bombardment of questions. His brothers most likely have likely heard of what happened and ask questions. Most importantly, Entrapta will ask. While he promised to tell her he hoped she would forget and focus on other things.
Maybe I should just tell them all. Perhaps if I tell them all they will stop asking questions and hopefully not be too angry with me. In truth, he didn’t care what the princesses thought of him. Entrapta and his brothers on the other hand were a different story. They were the ones who should know, and the ones he directly lied to. He was petrified that once they were told they would be livid and yell at him and kick him out.
I deserve it.
“Hordak?”
His head whipped over to the door; his eyes burning holes into the metal. It was the voice of his beloved. She was using the door, which was odd.
“You don’t have to tell me anything. I just want to talk to you.”
Slowly, he opened the door and let her in. They sat on his bed in silence; Hordak bandaged his left hand.
“Here let me help.”
She took his left hand into her gloved hands, carefully wrapping each digit in the white gauze. Hordak looked at the ground, and his ears perked downwards.
“The princesses are upset.”
“I know.”
“Your brothers are worried.”
“I know.”
“I’m worried about you.”
“I know.” He finally looked at her. “I’m sorry.”
“Hordak, you don’t need to apologize to me, and, whatever is bothering you, you can tell it whenever you want to. Could you tell me when you want to talk about it?”
“I want to get it over with. Just tell everyone at once so the whole thing can be over quickly. So, if possible, I want the Alliance, my brothers, and you to all gather somewhere, preferably Dryl, and I will just tell the whole thing.”
“That’s doable. Would you like me to contact them and ask if they could come by… say tomorrow?”
“That will suffice.”
Entrapta finished wrapping Hordak’s hand and put away the medical kit. She ushered him to lay back on his bed. She cuddled up in the crook of his arm. The two sat in silence as the minutes ticked by.
__________________________________________________
“So explain this to me again, Adora.” Netossa shifted in her seat.
“Well, after Mermista asked why Prime had a baby crib, he flipped out and stormed off into the ship then again to the Crypto Castle.”
“Isn’t that how he usually acts,” Catra said, laying on a couch. Adora gave her a light slap of the calve.
“What, it’s true! Every time he gets mad or uncomfortable he lashes out.”
“Well, whatever upset him must be important to make him react as he did, so we should be respectful of him and not bother him about it.”
“Well, I think we should press it because if Hordak must react that way it must be a problem,” Mermista stated.
“Maybe Prime had a kid somewhere that might take revenge on us for killing his father!” Swift Wind suggested.
“Whatever the issue is, we can’t ask him now. He is emotional over this and asking a bunch of questions so soon could provoke him further causing him to never tell us what happened.” Glimmer advised.
“That might come sooner than you think.” Everyone turned their heads to Bow who held his datapad in his hand. “Entrapta says to come to the Crypto Castle tomorrow because Hordak has to tell us something.”

Vessel
A short fanfiction I wrote in response to an anon ask on someone else’s blog back in aother time and another life.  I think it was @babyspacebatclone , but am not sure.  I know that they wrote a little sequel back in the day and I wrote a sequel to that, but this first / original story was initially meant to be a stand-alone.  This is the one story I have the rights to. I do not have the rights to babybat’s part of it, nor the name they later gave the Vessel - which are separate properties. If curious, contact them about that.  This was the first story that those stemmed from.  I have no idea if babybat wants to continue anything further in collaboration, but I doubt it, since we are no longer in any kind of regular contact with each other and, for my part, I don’t want to do collaborative fanfics (in any fandom) anymore.  This is to be taken as a stand-alone.  I am posting it because I like it as its ow thing and because I am having thoughts of taking the basic idea (fronted by an anon) off in a different direction.  A anon asked on tumblr “What if Prime’s vessel survived Hordak dropping him off the ledge, sans Prime-inhabitation?”  I wrote a story about Hordak, Entrapta and Bow finding the near-dead altered clone.  ____________________ Vessel  *Ping!  Ping!  Ping!*   “The signal points to here!  I can’t believe it, but data doesn’t lie!”   “What is it?”   “It’s a life-sign!  Something... or someone... is still alive in here!”  “That is not possible.  We were the last living beings in the throne-room before I was inhabited and we teleported down to the planet.”   Bow and Hordak followed Entrapta’s lead as she followed a signal on a data-pad, holding an antenna aloft in one tail of her hair.   “It’s coming from the ground floor, which means...”   Hordak suddenly stopped, his ears pinned back and his teeth clenched.  “No further!” he ordered.   “Hordak?”  Entrapta inquired.   “We go no further!”   “Could it be one of the attendant-clones?” Bow asked, “They’re trapped! We’ve evacuated everyone on the ship already, we have to help them, too!”   “It is not an attendant,” Hordak growled.   “Well, the signal isn’t moving, so they aren’t moving!”  Entrapta said.  “What an opportunity for study!”   “Wait, you fool!”   Hordak reached out for her, but she was already bounding into the ground-floor level of Horde Prime’s sanctum, ambulating on her hair.   “What’s the matter, Hordak?  You look afraid,” Bow asked.  “Did... Prime have some kind of guardian-beast we should be worried about?”   Hordak shook his head.  “No.  I suspect far worse lies within.  Entrapta has much more curiosity than self-preservation.  Ready your weapon.”   Hordak ran after Entrapta with Bow following on his heels, bringing out his bow and one of his more explosive arrows.    “Entrapta?”   “Entrapta?”  The two of them called into the darkness.   “Over here!” came her chipper voice.  They saw a waving lock of hair in the dim light of the still-running ship-lights and the newly-born fireflies that danced in the air among the twisting roots and branches of the magically-induced vegetation that now coated the Velvet Glove inside and out.   Hordak snorted.  Bow covered his mouth and gagged.  There was a smell here - a strong reek, metallic, but not clean.  It was a definitive biological odor.  Entrapta was hunched over a humanoid figure on the floor, running a different program on her pad, scanning it over while exploring it with tendrils off her hair.   Bow shivered when he beheld the form.  Hordak went white-eared (something that Bow had recently come to realize was a sign of fear in the “spacebats” from the company of Wrong Hordak.     The body that Entrapta had found was twisted, laying on its side, but with the torso twisted unnaturally away from the legs.  The jaw hung open and the tongue lolled out.  The side of the face visible to them was the side with only one eye, tightly closed.  The cable-hair was spread out and there was thick, sticky blood - light green close into the body and darker green were dried and smeared underneath it.  Horde Prime - or at least, his last vessel.   By the blood-streaks on the metal floor, it looked like he’d crawled some space, however feebly.   Entrapta gently prodded the body and read scans.  Bow jumped back as the middle of the figure rose and fell.  Stray hairs of Entrapta’s that were studying the face moved as breath hit them.   “He’s still alive!”  Bow squeaked.   “If you could say that,” Entrapta said.  “I can’t get a read on how much brain damage he’s suffered from the fall yet.  In any case, damage to the internal organs is massive.  I think he’s only still barely functioning due to his internal cybernetics.”   Hordak’s ears relaxed somewhat, but remained dipped.  He suddenly started looking around the room, rummaging for Bow didn’t know what.   “Hordak, what are you doing?” he asked.   “I regret that I did not think to equip my canon,” he muttered, “and I doubt that my stun-baton will be sufficient.”   “What?”  Hordak loomed over Bow.  “I would ask you to arm your most deadly arrow, but I worry that it would not pierce his modified skin.  I also doubt that you have have ever before preformed a mercy-kill.”   Bow looked back and forth between Hordak and the unconsciously-gasping form of the late Horde Prime.   The archer watched, dumbfounded, as Hordak knelt before the broken vessel of his progenitor and was disbelieving when the once scourge-of-Etheria bowed his head and tenderly stroked the one visible cheek on the dying clone.   “My apologies for being inefficient,” he said simply.   “Oh!” Entrapta brightened, holding up her scan-pad, “I think we can save him!”  Hordak rose.  “He is beyond saving,” he said.  “Prime’s vessels give everything they have to him.  All that he leaves behind is mere memory-storage.  This one is nothing but a data-disk.”   “But that’s WHY we should try to save him!  Think of all of the data he has! And Hordak, the last vessel that Prime possessed was you!”   “But he was only within me for a short time.  I still... saw everything.  Enough of me was left to fight from within until She-Ra drove him out.”  He gestured a hand to his chest for emphasis.  “I felt myself fading, Entrapta, and that was with a tenuous hold.  He did not enjoy my body - my defects and pain weakened him, but if he held me for more than a day, I would have been gone.”  He regarded his broken brother on the floor.  “To think that I once considered it the highest honor to be his vessel, as did we all.”  “We can’t leave him like this, can we?”  Bow asked, sweating with stress.  “Oh, I can harvest data from him as long as we keep him going,” Entrapta said.  “Entrapta! That’s sick!” Bow exclaimed.  “Look at him!  I can’t even imagine the pain he must be in!”  “I can,” Hordak said with a frown.  “So you agree with me in the matter of a mercy-kill, then?”   “Hold on! Hold on!” Entrapta said.  “I’m not asking that we let him suffer!  He’s unconscious - maybe even vegetative - I haven’t determined his exact state yet, but I don’t think he feels anything right now! I think that if I can sync up his cabling with my computer, I can download some information from him - the ship’s workings, clone biology, stuff on tech, that kind of thing.”  “Entrapta, I really would rather have done with it,” Hordak intoned.  Before more could be said, the vessel screamed.  Everyone jumped as the body of Horde Prime stirred.  The head slowly turned, all four green eyes opening.  He gasped and yelped, whatever of him was left making his agony obvious.  Hordak tried to charge an arm-cannon that was not there.  One of the vessel’s clawed hands moved weakly.   “L-Lord Prime?” the clone asked, “I cannot feel my legs anymore and everything else is... am I achieving purity?”   “By the Void...” Hordak cursed.    The vessel choked, gasped and clenched his teeth.  All four of his pain-teared eyes widened.  “I... I am alone.  Have I been unfaithful?  Is that why everything hurts?  Lord Prime, do not abandon me!”   Entrapta knelt again beside him and put a hair-tail on his shoulder.  “Alright...um... big guy... it looks like you’re awake.  And... not Prime.  Definitely not Prime anymore. She looked helplessly at his ravaged body and probed the ports in his cybernetics, looking for a way to dull sensations in the nervous system.  She’d never found a way to completely eliminate Hordak’s pain, then again, he needed to be able to move while this clone did not.  She used her finer hairs to manipulate one of his back-ports.  He visibly relaxed and blinked.   “Alright,” Entrapta sighed.  “I’m afraid that you’re going to be a quadriplegic until we figure out how to stabilize and fix you, but do you feel better now?   Bow and Hordak stood so close to each other that their shoulders touched.  They backed away from one another as soon as they realized this.   “Prime!”  the vessel cried.  “Prime, where are you?!”   “Prime is gone,” Hordak said, standing above  him.   “That cannot be!” The clone said in confusion.  “Prime is eternal!”  “You were his last intended vessel,” Hordak explained.  “You were...wounded.  Would you like me to end you?”   “Hordak!” Bow yelped.   “Defect!” the broken clone snapped.  He glared at Hordak.  “I know you!  I remember you!  You were defective!”   “Yes,” Hordak answered him, “But now I am free.  I will ask you again out of courtesy; you are a Vessel of Prime that has been mortally wounded.  Would you like me to finish it?”   “A vessel of Horde Prime shall not die by the hands of a defect!”  “So be it.”   “So, we can try to save him?!” Entrapta squealed.   “If you must,” Hordak answered.  “I shall respect his wishes, as misguided as they are.”   Bow busied himself with a communicator.  “Adora, you have to meet up with us.  We need your help.  You won’t believe what we found.  We’re going to need some She-Ra healing, and... maybe some form of restraint?  Yeah, yeah, bring Netossa.”   “I don’t know how to explain things to you,” Entrapta said, “But we want to help you.”   “Chatty rebel,” the clone said.  “Loud purple-haired princess.”   “Yep!  And we’re gonna help each other a lot!”

You know what?
I don’t think Tumblr should give writing advice like they’re offering absolutes. Some things work sometimes, but sometimes they won’t.
It reminds me of all advice I grew up with about creating characters without making them “Mary Sues”. You know what you get when you follow that advice to the letter? Boring ass characters.
Just write. Write your shit. Don’t worry about using “said” too much, or using too many adjectives. Don’t even worry about plot holes or writing something believable. Just. Fucking. Write.
Then, when you’re finished, tuck the thing away and bring it out once you’ve forgotten most of it. Now you can see it through a reader’s eyes and notice that the adjectives are distracting or you forgot to resolve a plotline or the romance is forced. Half the job of writing is editing, but they’re two different hats. Put them on one at a time and stop trying to make your first draft perfect.
(Obviously this format doesn’t work as well when writing fanfic or episodic pieces. I still think getting the bones down first is a good place to start. Fill in the flesh and tendons when you give it another look. Be patient with yourself and stop trying to mold yourself to some rando’s rules.)

You got any thoughts, headcanons, or whatever about Imp you haven't had a chance to share before? And/or about Hordak and Entrapdak as well.
(Also they changed the ask window, it looks like the text post editor now and it's weird. Which has nothing to do with anything, I was just surprised by it.)
^_^ I’ll have to check it out in browser, now that I have a functional computer again.
Hmmm….
I don’t think my Imp headcanons are outside the common interpretation. Most of it cribbed from a @cruciferousjex fic, which I highly recommend. (Link HERE.)
I think the most significant thing about Imp is that he very much symbolizes Hordak’s commitment to being different from Prime, even before he makes the conscious decision to split from him. He doesn’t discard Imp because of his disabilities; he accommodates them. I very much headcanon that Imp is incapable of speech, but—in addition to sign language because I fucking love sign language—Hordak created the voice modulator that allows Imp to “speak”. He accommodated Imp’s disabilities in a way Prime never would have accommodated him.
I suppose my most unique headcanon about Imp is that he prefers the modulator despite its limitations. He knows sign language, but he just enjoys using others’ voices to speak.

Alright, I’m resisting the urge to write for What We Do In The Shadows, so….
(Beware spoilers for season 3 finale)
I know everyone is completely upset that we were robbed of the happy Nandermo road trip we all wanted, but please imagine—
A tense reunion after some time has passed. (Let’s call it a year.) Perhaps after a dust-up of some sort. (I’d be lying if I wasn’t visualizing Nandor being given the chance to showcase his own warrior prowess. Him and Guillermo back to back, fighting baddies? Please.)
Anyway—Guillermo expects to settle back into his role as familiar bodyguard, but he quickly realizes that…Nandor doesn’t need his help with all the little (and big) things Guillermo used to do. Nandor’s had a year on his own—perhaps a hard year on his own—and he’s recovered his independence.
At first, Guillermo’s happy about this. Less work, right? But then he really starts to realize…Nandor doesn’t need him. And that is crushing, because no matter what speeches he makes about “found family”, in his heart of hearts, he fears the vampires kept him around because they needed him, not because they’re fond of him.
As he’s starting to spiral, though, Nandor asks to speak to him. And he doesn’t ask him as he would an underling. He doesn’t demand or whine. It’s a request, and not one Guillermo knows how to deny.
They talk. It’s awkward at first. Stilted small talk between people that are re-learning each other. Guillermo loses patience first, and asks what Nandor wants to talk to him about. He’s not sure what he’s expecting, but it’s not what he gets—an offer to turn him. Here and now, no trip to the Tigris needed. Because Guillermo has earned it. It’s offered formally, stiffly, and without feeling.
Guillermo breaks. It’s everything he ever wanted but in the worst way possible. He shouts his frustration and his anger and every emotion he’s repressed for more than a decade.
But he’s not the only one. Nandor breaks too. And is finally, finally willing to admit what he feels for Guillermo and how terrified he was that Guillermo would leave him when he was turned. But he’s had a year away, and now he knows that he can bear the pain when Guillermo leaves again, even though it will break his heart. And Guillermo has earned this, and Nandor…Nandor is strong enough now to let him go.
When they settle, they realize that they’re both idiots that they both have strong feelings for each other. And now…they can enter into a relationship as equals, both wanting the other more than they need the other.

My #1 post of 2022
While I very much don’t mind the interpretation that Hob and Morpheus have romantic feelings for each other…there’s a big part of me that really wishes there was more appreciation for the developing friendship. I mean. Listen—
Dream starts this whole thing like a scientist observing a weird little bug. He’s disdainful of humanity—at this stage, he has more in common with Desire than Death—and puts Hob in a position he fully expects Hob to regret. This isn’t a gift. Not from Dream’s perspective.
It’s a classic story, really; deity gives human exactly what he wants, only for the human to realize this is more curse than gift. Dream’s just fulfilling that archetypal role, and he’s waiting to see how the story will conclude. He’s waiting to see Hob come to that realization and how he’ll react when he does.
Of course, this very classic story is turned perfectly on its head. Dream keeps waiting for the turn. He’s waiting for the story to reach its natural conclusion, the only conclusion he can see. And it never does. Further, as time passes, Dream stops seeing Hob as an object of study or an archetype in a story. He begins to see him as a person—in some ways, an extraordinary person—and eventually, as a friend.
That progression is beautiful. Again, I’m not trying to sink anyone’s ship, I just wish that slow growth from disdain to fascination to respect to real friendship wasn’t brushed over so often.

“It’s been so long…” you think to yourself, drumming your fingers on the table, staring off into space. Originally a captive of the horde, you’ve been assimilated into their ranks via one person: Catra.
It was originally her idea to have you join; after all, you just happened to be the only one around when they invaded. As far as you knew, everyone was safe and sound as the horde had done little other than intimidate you.
You never hated Catra, far from it. You had secretly found the ethic of the horde strong, and if it wasn’t for their actions, you would’ve considered joining them yourself. So when Catra nominated that you join rather than remain a captive, you had no complaints. It certainly didn’t hurt that since you were her responsibility she had to be the one teaching you the ropes and supervising you at all times.
Working under people like Shadow Weaver and Hordak is pretty intimidating, but seeing how your feline friend is so blasé about them and cracks jokes at their expense does a lot to ease your stress. The two of you spend hours together, talking about your hopes, your dreams and your expectations. Sometimes it even turns into thoughts of what you would be doing if you weren’t in the horde.
During missions, Catra doesn’t go easy on you. After all, she is force captain. However, she is more than happy to lead you in the right direction, albeit in a less than comforting way. For all that she complains about the treatment both of you receive in the Horde, you’re the only one who ever says you might want to leave. Catra never likes when you say that, and makes you swear not to abandon your duties and allies. But she is open enough about her feelings to admit she’d be miserable without you.
And you do always assure her you’re not going anywhere, you just get a little overwhelmed and scared sometimes. For a while, she’s been dismissive and told you “You’ll be fine, don’t worry about it”. But there was one particular night that you needed her reassurance more than ever. Bright moon had been relatively quiet the past few days, which should have sent off alarm bells in your head. But they didn’t.
You were warm and comfortable, asleep in your bed. The ground begins to shake, and the sound of laser blasts unconsciously echo through your mind. Jolting awake, you look around frantically.
The room isn’t empty, you have to share with a bunch of other soldiers, but Catra is nowhere to be found and that makes you feel every bit as alone. Rising onto tired feet and nervously looking around, you start looking around in the hopes of finding your strongest lifeline in this place.
You speed up your search, scurrying down the corridor. You scan your eyes up and down hallways, in doorways and in the mess hall. You begin to become hopeless, until you see her shadow cascading onto a wall. You catch up to her, tears in your eyes. Genuinely fearful, you have no idea what is happening.
She’s on edge already, and seems ready to attack anything that approaches, but when she sees you all of that falls away. “Hey, what’s going on?…” you ask through choked breaths, looking up at the dust shaking down from the ceiling. Catra flexes her claws instinctively and looks down the hall with a grimace. “Some numbskulls from the Princess Alliance are trying to mount an offense on us, probably figured it could be a decent ambush if we were all asleep. I keep telling the bosses this place is too rickety to properly fortify…” This does nothing to calm you down and you try to hold back a sob, but Catra’s hearing always was too notch. She drops the defensive stance and pulls back her claws to hold your shoulders. “Hey, chill out. We’re not gonna die, and y’know why? Because I know the safest place in the Fright Zone. C’mon!”
Gripping your hand tightly, she pulls you along, the halls twisting and turning until you reach an old squeaky door nearly rusted off the hinges. The walls are thick, and it’s as if no sound could come through. “I-Isn’t this right next to Lord Hordak’s room?” You stutter, nervous about what could possibly happen. “The walls here have to be the strongest so he’ll be safe during any kind of attack, and I found an air vent in that room so I can listen in on any conversation I want. I’ve already put some stolen blankets and stuff in there so I wouldn’t have to sit on the cold floor.” Catra exclaims, clasping your hands in here.
You look around at what she’s set up before leaning against the wall, breathing a sigh of relief as you feel safe for the first time that night. “Thank you, Catra. I know you wanna be in the fight, so it means a lot that you’re here instead.” Catra’s face softens, and she looks around for any would be visitors before clearing her throat.
“Remember how I made you assure me that you’re not going anywhere?” You nod, wondering where she’s going with this. “Well, I’ll never leave you either. We’ve grown so close since you’ve come here and you’re someone I’ve come to rely on.” Your breath hitches in your throat, your eyes widening. “I guess what I’m trying to say is….I love you. And I wouldn’t give to spend every day with you if it weren’t for my duties.”
For a moment you forget how to breathe, this revelation overriding all other thought, and you look away as if trying with all your might to determine if you heard what you thought you did. “If this is a joke to try and lift my spirits so I don’t think about potentially dying, we’re gonna have a problem” you manage to say with a nervous smile. “And for the record, I love you too.”
Catra playfully shoves you before wrapping an arm around you. “I’m really serious. You’re everything to me. We’re gonna take the world by storm one day, hand in hand, and always have each other’s backs. Because that’s what love is for, right?” You give a tearful grin and grip her hand caringly. “Right.”
As the dust settles, the action has stopped and everything has become quiet. You tentatively stop as Catra rises, opening the door and checking out the exterior. “It’s all clear, we can leave now. We live to fight another day.” And with that, you envelop her in a hug.

So last monday my lab did a particulary boring experiment, and as a result my lab partner nearly blew up the place out of boredom.
Sadly my lab partner is not a Hordak or Entrapta level smart and useful person, but a raging ableist (that part is not important for the story, but its hella awful if someone constantly “insults” stuff that is not working right as being disabled or autistic when you yourself are autistic but never told anyone because of people like that), but at least not as lazy as he appears at first.
First part of the experiment had us trickle hydrochloric acid into a solution, which was boring enough because it was basically watching the acid drop per drop for about half a hour until the solution finally changed ph-value. But the second part... We had to boil the solution, and because our lab has only these hella old, not exactly well working hot plates this already took long (first one we took made the whole setup vibrate, so we had to take another one), and then we had to keep it boiling so that the water in the solution would evaporate until the product we wanted to have would precipate.
In other words, we literally watched (mostly) water boil. For a hour.
I nearly fell asleep standing. The lab partner was not that patient.
There was a small puddle of hydrochloric acid in the fume cupbord that originated from us pouring the acid in the dropping funnel for the first part and that we both had not fully cleaned away because you have to watch these processes the whole time for the chance of something actually happening.
Lab partner started to stare at that puddle and ran around exicedly, wanting to do something with it.
At first, he put a few drops of indicator into it, making it change its colour from translucent to orange. I tried to talk him out of it, because we should be be spare with the indicator, and a orange puddle on the green surface of the fume cupboard was pretty conspicious.
Next he put paper into it. Now, the thing about hydrochloric acid is, its not as dangerous as school chemistry lets you think. If its concentrated you should not get it onto your skin because that will create acid burns, and in the highest concentration it fumes, and then you should not breathe that in either (did that once accidentally as a young, dumb, inexperienced chemistry student, and it feels like eating too much wasabi, just way stronger and everywhere, in your nose, your mouth, your eyes, your longs, it hurts). But if its in a longer concentration it does not do much. Said puddle had a low concentration. Now, school teachers tend to panic even around hydrochloric acid with a concentration of 15 percent, and the puddle had this concentration. One would have expected that it would do something with the paper. It didn’t.
So my lab partner hold his finger in the puddle. Rationally I knew that at this concentration not much would happen, but it still was somewhat scary to see him hold his finger in a puddle of acid. But absolutly nothing happened again. Lab partner was disappointed.
Boiling solution still did not do anything either.
He then announced that he wanted to have the puddle react with alluminium, and now I really started to get worried. Have you ever seen alluminium react? Of course not all reactions it is capable of are violent - but the ones I had seen definitelly were.
Lab partner came back with some alluminium foil he got god knows where. He wanted to light it on fire. I protested. Burning metal is not a good idea.
Tumblr media
This is how burning metal even in small amounts looks like. I had once seen someone light up aluminium in a university lecture, and I remember how it light the previously dimmed room daylight bright and made a white glowing ball of fire three times the size of the piece of aluminium that was light up. I definitely did not want that happen on my fume cupbord right beside my experiment in front of me.
Thankfully, I managed to talk him out of this, but he did put the aluminium into the acid puddle. I had expected it to react, acid and metals usually do react, and braced for the worst - but nothing happened again. Acid was not high enough concentrated.
Sadly, we also had a large bottle of potassium hydroxide plates standing around. Potassium hydroxide is alkaline, and alkaline solutions create even worse burns than acid. Naturally I was not thrilled about the lab partner wanting to grab into the bottle with his bare hands to put one of these small plates into the puddle. I also was not thrilled about the probably fairly strong neutralization reaction that would happen when acid and lye would meet.
I paniced and shouted and finally managed to prevent my lab partner from burning his hands.
Instead he took the paper again, wrote something on it with a ballpoint pen, and put it into the acid puddle. And finally, finally something happened: The writing turned from blue to green. We were so bored that we genuinely were excited about that.
Still was happy as my work for this day ended, though

Table For Four - chapter 1
Entrapta X Hordak fic! (with Netossa and Spinerrella’s participation)
Tumblr media
Author’s note: Guess who’s back with more puppy/kitty fics nobody asked for?! That’s right, it’s me! Really wanted to make a double date involving our beloved mad scientists, and with fanart this time! I really hope you guys enjoy this one and tell me what you think! I love hearing you guy’s criticism!
Read it on Ao3!
-Pink-ish, or purple-ish? Pink-ish... Or purple-ish...? Hummm...
Entrapta compared both bow ties, one in each paw, trying to decide which one best matched with her new tuxedo. In other cases, she would ask Double Trouble, who by far had a better knowledge of clothes and "style" than her. But they were busy today. And in other, other cases, she would ask Hordak, who was also busy at the moment, putting on his own dress. -Entrapta? Is something wrong? -Hordak asked from behind the fitting room's door. -No, nothing's wrong, I just don't know which bow tie would look good with my tux! -She said, frustrated. -Could you help me? -In a moment, dear! Entrapta growled. She didn't have a moment! Emily, noticing her frustration, looked up at her from beneath the large bed and beeped worryingly. -Oh! Emily! -The princess jumped down from her comber. -Which one? The dog raised the bow ties for the robot to see. She looked between both for a moment before settling on the one at her left paw. -Purple-ish it is! -Entrapta declared, tossing the pink-ish bow tie over her shoulder. She hummed a tune while going back to her comber's mirror to tie it to her tuxedo. Her ears raised as she heard rustling behind her and steps. Probably just Hordak getting out of the dressing room. -Did you need something? -He asked. -Uh, no, I solved that problem, but now I have another one! -She said. -Can help me tie my- Uuuhhh...! He was absolutely dashing. His dress wrapped perfectly around his hips and loosened around his legs, leaving them in clear sight. A long cape on his back dragging on the ground with his tail. He had black lipstick and nailpolish on, and a rogue lock of fur fell on his eyes in a curl. What a lucky dog she was! She whistled at him in a teasing tone as he walked up to her. -Oh, stop it! You've seen me in this dress a thousand times before! -I've seen the sunset a thousand times before, doesn't make it less beautiful! -She said, her tail wagging. A low purr escaped him as he helped her with her bow tie and adjusted the plastic flower on her pocket. The last time she tried with a real flower, she wouldn't stop sneezing. Emily beeped at them sadly as she handed Entrapta her very small top hat. Hordak pat her in a gesture of comfort. -Oh, I'm sorry, Emily. I know you wanted to come. But this is a date! Meaning "only couples allowed"! -The Princess said. -But Kadroh will stay with you! And you can watch movies with Imp! Emily beeped excitedly again, rolling around the room, knocking things off shelves and tables. Entrapta laughed at her companion, and Hordak raised a paw for Emily to stop when she approached them again. -If Double Trouble shows up unnannounced again -He told her. -Shoot at will! The robot beeped an understanding sound, ready to follow his orders. She ran out off the room when Entrapta opened the door into the corredor. -Are you ready for our first "fancy date", lab partner? -I am. -He said, his tail held high. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -I'll show you a thing or two about romance! -Netossa said in an awfully confident voice. Spinnerella rooled her eyes and chuckled. She loved her wife's overconfidence on herself, and this date had been her idea after all. She rested her tail on Netossa's hip and they kissed. Her wife's gaze changing from confident to love-struck, and she couldn't help but smile. -Good afternoon, my ladies! -The receptionist exclaimed. He, just as the rest of the staff, wore a tux and had his fur straightened with gel. -Good afternoon! We have a booking under the name "Netossa"! -Hmmm... I'm sorry, my lady, but I don't believe we have a booking under that name. -What?! Oh, no, did I call the wrong restaurant?! -Real smooth, "Juliet"! -Spinnerella laughed. -D-do you have any tables for two available? The receptionist checked on a list in his table. -Not at the moment, I'm afraid, but the waiting time is 20 minutes, if my ladies don't mind waiting. -He said, apologetic. -Of course it is... -She sighed, her ears dropped in defeat. -I'm sorry, Nella. Do you wanna go somewhere else? Spinnerella smiled wide, her tail wagging, as she hugged her wife in comfort. -I don't mind waiting! We did want to try a new place! Netossa smiled a little, her tail wagging as well. -We'll wait! -I'm glad! Just wait in the reception, please! I will call you when the table is available! They sat on a little red bench with large cushions, others sat with them, waiting for their tables as well, talking. A large window on the opposite wall gave a beautiful view of the outside, a large garden and the sun setting behind it, giving place for the stars. -I have a good feeling about this! -Spinnerella held her wife's paw on her own. Netossa raised their paws and kissed Spinnerella's. -I have too! They stare into each other's eyes, stuck in their own little world, until they hear a very familiar shrill laugh. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -So fancy! -Entrapta exclaimed. She raised her paws to look at the large red carpet underneath them. Her tail wagged madly with excitement, making her whole backside wiggle, and while Hordak found it most endearing, it earned some strange stares. Either that, or his own presence. He couldn't tell. Hordak knew better then to judge others for their appearance, but he couldn't help but make assumptions. Some in the line behind them whispered and pointed, some in the front tried looking at them without being noticed. Entrapta was distracted, touching everything she could. It was all very velvety and she enjoyed the feel of it. Hordak had to nudge her gently to get her attention back when their turn came. -Hello! -She approached the receptionist. -Oh! Princess Entrapta! What an honour! What brings you here toda-AAaayyy... -The receptionist's expression fell from welcoming to absolutely terrified for his life when he saw Hordak. -Do you have a table for two? -Entrapta asked. -Oh! W-well... We have a waiting list of about 20 minutes, if you don't have any bookings, my lady... -He said, trying to recompose himself. -Which, of course, I completely understand if you don't want to wait that long! Hehe... M-maybe choose another restaurant... -No, we can wait! Right, Hordikins? -She turned to Hordak. -You don't mind waiting? -I don't mind at all. In fact, waiting may be better. It'll help my appetite. Hordak tried to keep his voice calm, but he couldn't help but pin his ears back. He had his eyes fixated on the receptionist, and opened his mouth to lick his lips, purposefully showing as much of his sharp fangs as he could. The receptionist's ears dropped and his face was turning pale. -R-right... Just wait at the reception, I'll call you when there's a table available... Entrapta smiled as she walked past him, Hordak followed after her, but shot the receptionist the nastiest side-eye he could manage. The princess chose a nice little red bench to sit on, right underneath a large window. The sun had just set and the night sky was filled with stars. Entrapta rested her paws on the window stop to admire them, her tail still going. Hordak smiled and sat beside her, her ear wrapping around his tail. -I'm still not used to them! They're so beautiful...! -They are. A moment of silence, and Hordaks smile fell. His worries starting to aggravate him, and feeling other's stare wasn't helping at all. Entrapta noticed his anxiety and took his paw in hers for him to look at her. -Hordikins? Is something wrong? -I'm not sure... -He sighed. -I suppose... I'm just not very confident. We are incredibly out of our element, and I don't know what to do with myself... -I understand. It wasn't easy for me when I first starting hanging out with the other princesses too. -She wrapped her ear around him and pulled them closer together. -But you don't gotta do anything! We're here for us! We'll have a nice dinner and it'll be super fun! You'll see! -Correct, as always, my dear. -He smiled at her and nuzzled her cheek, purring. He wrapped his tail around her as they held each other and Hordak felt his anxiety start to calm. -Entrapta?! Their ears raised and they turned to look at the awfully familiar voice calling the princesses' name. -Hi! -Entrapta wagged her tail. Hordak recognized the dogs sitting behind them, though they were wearing much more expensive clothing. They were princesses, married to each other. He had seen them before in previous Princess Meetings, but he couldn't remember their names. But Entrapta seemed to recognize them, and they seemed to recognize Entrapta. -What are you guys doing here? -What are YOU guys doing here?! -The taller dog asked. -We're out on a fancy date! -Entrapta said, proudly, pulling Hordak closer as to show him off. -Really? -The smaller said. -We didn't know you liked this kind of place! I mean... We know you have trouble with food sometimes... -Yeah, I do! But I really, really wanted to try a fancy date! And Double Trouble said this place was good! -Entrapta turned to the cat. -You guys remember Hordak? -How could we ever forget...? -Netossa! -What?! -Hordikins, do you remember Netossa and Spinnerella? -I do. -Ah. So that was their names. -Pfft! "Hordikins"? -The one they called Netossa laughed. -Only Entrapta calls me that! -He growled. They stared at each other aggressively. -Netossa! Quit it! -Spinnerella barked at her wife. -S-so, you came here on a date, right? What a coincidence! We're here on a date, too! -Are you?! That's awesome! -Entrapta gasped, an idea forming on her head. -You know what we should do?! We should do a DOUBLE fancy date! -Oh, yes! -What?! -Hordak and Netossa asked at the same time. -It's been so long since we've had a double date, Net! -Spinnerella said. -And we for sure never spent enough time with Entrapta! Or Hordak! -Uhhh... You sure about this, honey...? -I have to agree with... Netossa, beloved. I don't believe this to be a wise idea. -Hordak hesitated, the princess' name unfamiliar to him. In a strange place, with strangers, in such an intimate occasion. Hordak knew it wasn't as serious as he was making it, but the fear of something going completely wrong clawed at him. Entrapta raised herself to his eye level and put a paw on his shoulder. -Don't worry, it's gonna be fun! I promise! -Entrapta reassured him. Spinnerella left Netossa's side only to approach the receptionist once again. -Excuse me, could we maybe move to wait for a table for four? We found our friends here, and we would like to sit together! -She asked him politely. -Oh, of course, my lady! -He looked over her shoulder at Hordak, and the cat glared at him again. The receptionist gulped. -W-well, if you choose to move to a table for four, we have one available right now. If you still wish to dine here, o-of course! But I'm sure you don't- -Oh, yes, please! That would be wonderful! -Ah. Follow me... Defeated, the receptionist guided them through the tables to a nice sofa at the end of one of the corners. He tried to ignore Hordak for the most part, though he could feel the cat's gaze burning on the back of his neck. Though it was somewhat far from the other tables, Netossa couldn't help but feel others' gaze on them. It wasn't unusual. They always earned a few stares when they went out, after all, they were princesses, everyone knew who they were, but she noticed an awful lot more of stares than usual. -Here are your menus. -The receptionist said hastly. -I'll have a waiter come and take your orders in a moment! Before Spinnerella had the chance to thank him, he ran to the kitchens followed by two other waiters. Confused, she turned to the others. -So, what are we eating tonight? -There's no pictures on this menu! And all the names sound weird! -Entrapta said. -But I'll eat anything if it's tiny! How about you, Hordak? -Red meat. -He answered, still looking at the menu. -I really want some pasta! -Spinerrella said, sharing her menu with Netossa. -Darling, do you mind sharing it with me? -As long as it got a bunch of cheese, I'm good with it! -Netossa licked her lips. -Are we ready to order, then? Before anyone would answer, Netossa had already called a waitress who was passing nearby. She approached them with a smile, but her expression fell when she noticed the large red-eyed cat. She gulped. -Good afternoon, my ladies! What would you like to eat today? -she asked with a notepad on her paws. -Do you have any pasta? -With cheese? -Yes, we do have our "Gnocchi Alla Bava", it's our special for today! -the waitress pointed at the name on the menu. -Then one of those for us both, please! -Netossa held Spinnerella's paw. -How about you guys? -Do you have anything tiny? -Entrapta asked the waitress. -Well... We have the "Mozzarelline Fritte"... But tha- -Great! I want one of those! -Entrapta interrupted. -Alright... And what for the main course, my lady? Entrapta didn't respond until Hordak whispered in her ear the waitress was still talking to her. -Huh? What main course? -"Mozzarelline Fritte" are appetizers, my lady. You are suppose to order an actual dish for dinner after the appetizers... -Oh. Uhhh... What else is tiny other than that? -Entrapta read the menu again. -Nothing, my lady... -Then I'm just gonna want that! -You sure, Traps? -Netossa asked. -What if you're still hungry afterwards? -Then I can order more! Netossa and Spinerrella exchanged looks. -Well, alright... -the waitress said, turning away from the table. -I'll take your orders to the chef, if that is all- -That is not all! -Hordak growled. -You haven't taken my order! The waitress gulped and turned back. Instead of asking she just gestured for Hordak to speak and refused to look him in the eyes. -Do you have red meat? -he asked. -"Brasato al Barolo". -the waitress answered coldly. -I'll have that. Well done. She turned to the kitchens without another word. Which they all found quite rude. Entrapta on the other hand, had her tail wagging madly and clung to Hordak's paw like her life depended on it. -This is so exciting! I've never been to a fancy restaurant before! -Never before? Never, ever? -Netossa asked. -You don't know what you're missing, Traps! We love coming to "fancy restaurants"! -Oh, yes! The food is good, the waiters are very polite- -To you, maybe. -Hordak growled. Netossa shot him a side-eye and wrapped her tail around Spinerrella's hips, bringing her wife closer to her. Spinerrella, noticing her wife's worries, rested a paw on her shoulder as to calm her down. -Maybe she was just in a rush! -Entrapta told him. -Maybe she didn't want to look at your fa- OW! Netossa had whispered to herself, but Spinerrella had over-heard her and given her a pinch to stay quiet. Hordak pretended he didn't her the dog's almost offense and turned to Entrapta, who fidgeted with her paws while looking around. She noticed a table full of older dogs, also wearing expensive dresses and jewelry. They looked over their shoulder, pointed and whispered. Entrapta smiled and waved at them, thinking they were trying to start a conversation, but they turned back around when they realized they were noticed. Hordak pinned his ears back. Intimidating the waitress had taken his attention from the rest of his surroundings, full of whispering and strange looks. He told himself it was because of him, but a voice inside his head made him question if it wasn't because of Entrapta. For all they knew, she was secluded, had an unstable political relationship with the other Princesses, and worked for the Horde. For him. With him. And she made it very known and clear to all that she enjoyed every second of it. The thought disgusted him, but as he looked at her again, she noticed his eyes on her and gave him a smile. The cat couldn't help but smile back. In a small moment of relief, he bent down and kissed her cheek. So let them stare. -So... you both! -Spinerrella said awkwardly. -How are things for the two of you? Back in Dryl, I mean? -It's great! - Entrapta exclaimed. -The Brothers are having an easier time adjusting and I finally got Hordak to take an actual bath! -Entrapta! -he hissed. -That is personal information! -I understand it completely! -Spinerrella pointed at Netossa. -This one still has a fit over eating her veggies! -Veggies are disgusting! How very dare you! -Netossa barked. Entrapta cackled at the other couple's squabble. Hordak was still suspicious. Of what or who, he wasn't sure, but he wasn't as at ease as his lab partner. -You both are Princesses, are you not? -he implied to them. -But I do not seem to remember your kingdom from any map. I heard it's quite small... -And what if it is?! -Netossa growled. -Netossa! Shut! Your! Mouth! -Spinerrella turned to Hordak. -Yes, it is! It actually wasn't recognized as a kingdom of it's own until very recently, with Netossa's grandmother! -Really? How come? -Entrapta tilted her head, confused. -It basically works like a fief! -Netossa puffed out her chest. -There are rulers who the subjects give their services to, and in return, the rulers let the subjects stay and live on their land! Nana was pissed at Bright Moon at the time because they refused to count us as a kingdom or part of the Princess Alliance, even if our fief was enormous and we were the main source of sugar, cattle and wheat! They wanted us to keep paying taxes! -Fuck taxes! -Entrapta interrupted in an unfamiliar angry tone. -That's right, Traps! Fuck taxes! -Netossa cheered, her tail waging, while Spinerrella shook her head. -Nana stopped exporting resources and Bright Moon had to swallow their pride and let her in the Princess Alliance, or else they would have starved! -That's clever! I'm just glad Glimmer gave up on trying to make me pay my taxes! -Entrapta said. -I hated doing them! -I am glad too! -Hordak said, wrapping his tail around her. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -So we're not going to do nothing about it?! -the waitress whispered, indignant. -What are we supposed to do? -the receptionist whispered back. -It's Hordak! Those claws cut through flesh like a hot knife cuts through butter! We can't just tell him to leave! -You're both right! -the chef said through the kitchen window. -Nobody wants him here, but if we tell him to go home, he'll rip our tails off and shove them down our throats! -He's bothering the other customers! I've had multiple complaints about him! -He's just sitting there! As long as he doesn't do anything, let's not turn his attention to us! -Hi! They all jumped. Expecting a claw to his face, the receptionist raised his paws to shield himself, only to realize it was not Hordak, just Princess Entrapta. -O-oh! My lady! Apologies, are you in need of something? -he recomposed himself quickly. -Yeah, where's the bathroom? I really gotta go! -she said. The receptionist pointed at a small corridor next to a bookshelf, near the kitchen. Entrapta turned from them. -Thanks! By the way, when is our food coming? We're really hungry! -In a few more minutes, my lady! -the chef said. -Apologies for the wait, but we have a full house tonight! -Oh, okay! Thanks anyways! -and she ran off. They all sighed in relief after the Princess was gone. -She doesn't look hurt, does she? -the chef asked, worried. -Even if she doesn't, I wouldn't be surprised if he hits her! -the waitress said. -We're getting too ahead of ourselves here! -the receptionist barked! -Just act normally and DON'T do anything stupid! The waitress huffed. -Watch me!
That’s it for this chapter! I’m nit sure how long this will be, but I will try my best to update it soon! Reblog if you liked it and I wish you the happiest pride month!

A Hordak birthday fic
word count: 1.8k
(Please read on mobile to avoid awakward paragraph division, not necessary but highly advised :'>)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
(Set after season 5)
"Hey Hordak?" Entrapta loudly called from the other side of her lab, her voice slightly muffled by her mask.
Hordak's ears perked up as he raised his gaze from the small piece of machinery he was currently in the process of reassembling. "Hmm?"
"When's your birthday?" Entrapta said, her attention still on the current project she was working on, tinkering with a sensor piece of a destroyed Galactic-Horde surveillance bot.
The question took Hordak by surprise. Why would she ask that all of a sudden? Why was the topic of birthdays even on her mind in the first place? It certainly could not be her birthday today, could it? No, Hordak distinctly remembered her celebrations a relative short while ago. So why-
Hordak realized he probably took a little too long to think about it when Entrapta added.
"I'm sorry I've never asked this before". She put down the sensor piece on her work table and with a swift motion of her hair, she was already half-way across the lab, about merely 4 feet from Hordak.
"I know should've asked this ages ago, back at the Fright Zone, even, but I just never got around to it, and then everything with Beast Island happened, and then you were-" her voice sounded a bit stressed, as she was seeming to get a little more out of breath with each word she that came out of her mouth.
"Starlight, it's fine." Hordak stopped her mid-sentence and took a couple steps close to her. "There’s no need to apologise", he said with a small, reassuring smile.
"What got you thinking about this issue?"
Entrapta cocked her head to the side a little.
"Nothing in particular, really," she shrugged, "I've just been thinking about.. a lot, actually,"
Hordak chuckled. When was she not, he thought.
"And I realized we never celebrated your birthday, which seemed odd to me", she finished.
Hordak sighed. "I.." he took a short pause, "I do not have a birthday."
Entrapta quickly flicked her mask up with a tendril of her hair. "What?!" she gasped, "that's ridiculous! Everybody has a birthday! Even Imp!"
Imp was never intended to have a birthday.
Hordak only wrote down the date of his cloning for scientific research purposes and to keep track of his development.
That changed once Imp learned the concept of a birthday while spying on some Horde cadets.
Hordak ran his hand across his face with a long groan. "Imp does not count.” Hordak said with a sigh. “The only reason that rascal even has a birthday in the first place is because he realized that would earn him more attention and food."
Entrapta pouted. "Fine, then..” she paused for a moment, running her hands through the hair of her right ponytail, thinking. “Take Kadroh!” She exclaimed. “Even he has one! and he's a clone just like you!"
Hordak took a moment to think about that statement.
Back in the hivemind, the Galactic Horde clones never had the luxury of having a birthday. Hordak wouldn't really describe their creation as a "birth" in the first place, so calling that a birthday seemed illogical to him anyway.
Even Horde Prime himself never had a birthday, or anything similar to that. It's not like he needed a specific day to emphasize his presence and being when Hordak and the rest of the clones' entire lives were centered around him anyway.
"He does not count either. His birthday was given to him by you and your friends."
Entrapta’s brows furrowed. "Still! who said your birthday has to be your actual date of birth!" she said, her hair gesturing dramatically in the air as she's speaking. "Or, cloning, I guess, in your case. We can just find you a suitable date for that! You see it worked fine with Kadroh".
"Kadroh is a different case.” Hordak pouted and crossed his arms. “The date you chose for him is significant to him so it was fitting. I do not have such a date to my name."
Kadroh's given birthday was decided to be the date he got disconnected from the hivemind and joined the Etherians on their mission to beat Prime. To quote Kadroh, he felt like that was the day he was born again, the day he actually got to become a person of his own outside of Horde Prime’s shadow.
Entrapta raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“Um, what about the day you stood up against Prime? and.. declared your personhood? ‘I am Hordak and I defy your will’?” She quoted his speech to Prime, gesturing dramatically with her hair as if she’s holding an imaginative figure, mimicking the way Hordak was holding Prime while delivering his speech.
Hordak’s ears drooped. “Well..” his words started to stammer a bit. “That day is already declared as a holiday. I do not feel like it would be logical to add another celebration to such an already loaded date.”
While technically he was right, the day of Horde Prime’s demise was already declared as a holiday on Etheria, one of the most important ones even, Entrapta wasn’t buying his excuses.
“Why do I feel like you’re just avoiding having one altogether?” Entrapta said, raising an eyebrow at him. She raised herself on her hair to match Hordak’s eye level.
Hordak turned his head away as to avoid catching her eyes. “I.. do not feel like having an entire day centered around me would prove to be very productive.” He said quietly.
Worry spread across Entrapta’s face.
“Birthdays aren’t supposed to be productive, Hordak, they’re supposed to be fun!” She said with a smile. Seeing Hordak looking unconvinced, she took a couple of moments to think.
“Do you feel like my birthday is unproductive?” She simply asked.
Hordak instantly turned his look back to face her. “What? Why would I think such a thing?”
“Please elaborate.” Entrapta added.
“Of course your birthday is productive!” He replied within mere seconds. “It’s important to you and it makes you feel happy. By all accounts, that should deem it nothing but productive.”
“So would you agree that it only seems logical that I would want to see you just as happy?”
Hordak’s ears drooped as he tried to turn his head away once again, but a tendril of Entrapta’s hair stopped him as she grabbed him gently by the cheek and turned his look back to her.
Her touch on his cheek was as light as can be. She hadn’t actually grabbed him, but guided him to face her.
Hordak looked in her eyes for a quick moment before turning his look away again. He could feel the heat starting to creep up his cheeks.
“I.. I suppose it does.”
Entrapta moved a little closer to him and slowly placed her gloved hand on the purple crystal on Hordak’s chest, analyzing it with her eyes and tracing its carvings.
Hordak couldn’t fight the smile that managed to find its way to his face. He fully understood what she was getting at.
Carefully, he started moving his hand to put atop hers. He did so slowly partly out of uncertainty, but also as to give her enough time to move her hand away if she didn’t feel like being touched at the moment, but her hand kept steady as he placed his own on hers.
As Entrapta raised her gaze to look at Hordak, another tendril of her hair had almost subconsciously raised up and cupped Hordak’s other cheek. She was quick to turn her head away in embarrassment as her cheeks had almost instantly started to flush red, but Hordak only responded with a soft chuckle and a genuine smile, and leaning into her touch.
Entrapta slowly turned her head back to face Hordak and an instant smile spread across her face when she saw him looking so content.
They stayed like that for a couple more moments before her smile wore off a little when she started to speak. Her expression soft, but with a tinge of worry. “So, what do you feel?”
Hordak’s eyes focused on everything but her at that moment, lost in thought.
“I.. appreciate your thought and care. More than I could ever express. But I am not sure I am ready for these sorts of great celebrations of my own, yet. I don’t think having me at the center of attention would prove to be a good idea.”
Entrapta sighed. She looked a little bummed, but gave him an understanding smile nonetheless. “I’m not going to push you to do anything you don’t feel like. I just want to show you that the option is here if you ever feel like it, okay?”
Hordak smiled and squeezed her hand a little, their hands still on the crystal on his chest.
“And hey, no one said your celebrations have to be grandiose or anything.” Entrapta added. “It can be just us, if you’d like.”
Hordak’s ears perked up and he found himself blushing again.
Entrapta pulled herself back from Hordak’s touch and quickly dropped her mask down with her hair.
“Uh- I mean, a-and Kadroh and Imp and Emily too! of course!” She said in a quick pace, her words fumbling a little. “We wouldn’t want to leave them out of all the fun, right?”, she said, scratching the back of her neck.
Even though he couldn’t see her face, he could clearly imagine her blushing.
“You’re right”, he said with a soft chuckle.
Entrapta raised her mask with her hand to reveal her smiling a little, her cheeks just as bright red as Hordak imagined.
“Sooo….” Entrapta dragged out the word, “If you’re on board for a small celebration, nothing big, have you picked a date yet?” She said, tapping her two index fingers together in interest.
“I.. um,” Hordak started looking around as he was trying to think of something to say.
“It can be any date!” Entrapta said holding a finger up. “Anything that comes to mind, even today!”
Hordak’s eyes widened. Entrapta noticed and snickered quietly. “What d’you think of that?”
“It doesn't seem like a bad idea.” Hordak said.
“Mhm!" She nodded. "I know it’s not a notable day or anything, but…”
“It shall work”, Hordak said with a small smile.
“It’s a date!” Entrapta exclaimed happily and lifted herself up on her hair, shaking two balled up fists in excitement.
In a matter of seconds, Entrapta had already managed to perk herself up on her hair to Hordak’s face and kiss his lips. The peck only lasted a couple of seconds but was enough to manage to fluster Hordak, again. His ears drooped as they parted.
When he finally managed to get his eyes to focus again, he saw Entrapta smiling at him. “Happy birthday, lab partner”.
He tried to recollect himself to answer, unsuccessfully.
Entrapta replied with a small laugh, then abruptly stopped.
“Wait!” she exclaimed loudly. “I’ll go notify the kitchen crew, what flavour cake would you like? never mind, i’ll have them make a trayful of everything anyway, wait right here!”. And with a few quick swishes of her hair, she was already out the door.
Hordak was left standing alone in the lab, dumbfounded.
“Wait!”. But by the time he had managed to say something, she was already somewhere down the halls of the castle.
“Happy birthday, lab partner”, he replayed her words in his head. Thinking of her, her excitement, her words of encouragement, her kiss,
He was finally convinced it was going to be a good day.

She-Ra S5 E09 - An Ill Wind
In which the Best Friend Squad’s back on Etheria and I’m back to writing up my thoughts about it. (The real question is whether I’ll manage to finish these posts before season 5’s one-year-anniversary.) I probably really don’t need to say this anymore, but there might be spoilers for the rest of the season in this post.
- I think it’s funny how Catra can’t stand teleporting, but what’s even more important is how visibly concerned for her Adora is each time. Have you seen how she touches Catra’s shoulders and looks at her with such a worried expression? D’awww.
- “Wow, you don’t trust the princesses? I am shocked.” No Glimmer, Catra’s 100% right. This has nothing to do with trusting the princesses; you really don’t know who’s chipped and which places are occupied by clones. Perfuma literally told you the rebellion was compromised.
- “Catra’s right.” THANK YOU, ADORA! (Also, I love Catra’s satisfied little smirk in the background when Adora says this.)
- I just paused the episode when they arrive in Erelandia and counted the Horde flags you can see hanging all over the town: 14, plus one giant Horde sign in the sky and a spire not too far away. Prime, are you compensating for something? (Also, Adora has an arm on Catra’s back again. Cute.)
- Is it a little disappointing that all the rebellions against Horde Prime on other planets got reduced to one brief exposition scene where a clone mentions they’re happening and a few quick images? Yeah. But I also get why the show just didn’t have the time for more and wanted to focus on Etheria.
- Speaking of, are those the magicats we see in the second image? Interesting… I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of Catra potentially being an alien as well. But then again, the show never clearly answers it one way or another, and there’s no reason magicats couldn’t have existed on multiple planets.
- Also, am I understanding this right: The Star Siblings started the intergalactic rebellion after meeting the Best Friend Squad? And now there are already rebels on several planets? Nice job, Star Siblings!
- “My heart aches for these misguided children.” I’m not sure if I’ve ever properly addressed the heavily religious symbolism around Horde Prime and his cult, but… that right there is *such* a Christian-extremist-coded line, holy hell…
- So Prime says he wants to use the Heart of Etheria “to bring peace to all the universe” and at this point I’m not entirely sure what his exact goal is. Does he just want to destroy all the planets with the Heart? Because I’ll be honest, I tend to find “I just want to destroy everything” a bit boring as a motivation in villains. What’s the point of him ruling the universe if there’s no one left to rule over? I mean, I know Prime had his whole “If there’s no one left, there are no wars, etc.” speech in an earlier episode, but that’s also just so dumb.
- Where did the Best Friend Squad even get those cloaks? Either way, Catra looks adorable with the outline of her ears showing under the hood. 🥺
- “I hope you, too, are full only of love for Horde Prime… and have no crippling doubt eating at your soul.” / “Brothers, there is nothing to see here!” Like I said in an earlier post, all of Wrong Hordak’s lines are absolute winners. Also, I love how the other clones just keep falling for his very obvious bluffs.
- Wrong Hordak learning to wink so quickly makes me jealous because I can’t wink. (No, I really can’t; I’ve tried. Whenever I try to only close one eye, I always end up closing both. If anyone has good advice on learning to wink, let me know.)
- I love the character designs of the mushroom people.
- Catra wasn’t wrong about the locals selling them out and not telling them anything useful. The others should listen to her more.
- Bow posing as the “average traveler passing though” is especially funny because I’m pretty sure there are no “travelers passing through” in times of Horde Prime.
Catra: “A town that hates princesses? Should I buy property here?”
Everyone else: *glares*
Catra: “Is what I would have said before I joined you. Go, team.”
😂😂😂 Catra’s quiet little “Go, team” in the end is what gets me most about this moment 😂. She’s adorable and trying her best, okay?
- I love how Wrong Hordak just calls everyone “brother” regardless of gender. Also, Adora’s little “Did you just wink at me?” / “That’s not how winking works!” moments are hilarious and adorable.
- “You’re wearing hooded cloaks, it’s highly suspicious.” Okay, mushroom lady’s not wrong, though. And I love how someone finally points this out, since hooded cloaks are so often used as “undercover” disguises in shows like this.
- That said, both she and mushroom guy earlier did try to sell the Best Friend Squad out super quickly. Like, I get that the locals are scared, but still… They could have tried to stay safe without running towards the clones to tell them everything right away.
- I’m just noticing that Erelandia has mushrooms everywhere. Obviously the people are mushrooms, but there are also mushrooms growing outside in the streets everywhere, and the shop they’re in is selling mushrooms and clothes with mushrooms on them as well.
- Both Bow and Glimmer blowing their covers almost immediately and Adora just quietly shaking her head at both of them in the background is amazing.
- Love Catra (and Melog) just casually stealing a mushroom from a mushroom lady.
- So Catra’s just chilling in a tree and eating stolen mushrooms and Entrapta wants to analyze samples that’ll be ready in 4-6 weeks – neither of them’s really helping right now. But then again, Catra wanted to leave in the first place because she thought the locals would sell them out (and she was right about that), so she probably thinks it’s not worth the effort.
- Also, you know who this scene with Entrapta and Catra is missing? Scorpia. If there is one problem I have with season 5, it’s that we didn’t get any Super Pal Trio reunion / moments with all of them on the same side now. (Or just in general, that we didn’t get to see Scorpia and Catra properly talking things out.)
- “That’s the windy one, right?” Okay, am I the only one who finds this line weird? Spinnerella literally has Adora, Bow and Glimmer trapped in a tornado as Entrapta says this. Obviously she’s “the windy one”? Entrapta can literally see that??
- “Lord Prime has given me peace.” Oh, I’m just realizing that’s just what Catra said when she was chipped. That’s got to be awful for Adora to hear again.
- Glimmer grabbing Bow and Adora’s hands and teleporting them out of the tornado was badass.
Adora: “How are we supposed to fight our own friends?”
Catra: “It never stopped you before.”
OMG. I love that Catra still considers their time as enemies as “being friends”.
- I really love Netossa’s entrance. What makes it really cool to me is that at that point the Best Friend Squad didn’t even know if there were any unchipped princesses left, so Netossa jumping in there with a casual “Welcome back, guys” was just an amazing moment.
- Also, I don’t know if I’ve said this before, but I really like that this season finally made Spinnerella and Netossa more important characters. (And I wonder how much network censorship of LGBT+ storylines had to do with them not being that important earlier on.)
- Hordak getting flashbacks of Entrapta again (while Prime looks at his older body’s memories) is just 🥺. I like how Prime talks about Etheria while Hordak slowly remembers more and more about his own life on Etheria.
- “So, the only person I’m fighting here is… my own wife.” I love the on-screen confirmation that they’re married! But also, Netossa wanting to attack Catra and Wrong Hordak at first was pretty funny.
- Catra and Glimmer’s respective expressions when they hear about Scorpia and Micah being chipped are a gut punch. Also, Netossa talking about how she has to get Spinnerella back is making me tear up.
- “Where are the rebels?” “Right beside you!” 😂😂😂 Amazing, just amazing.
- Love to see Catra taking out those bots. She’s so badass ❤️.
- “Be careful.” “Always am.” I wonder at what point Netossa started to realize what’s going on between Catra and Adora.
- Love Netossa whistling at She-Ra’s new look. Your wife’s right there, darling. But then again, who wouldn’t whistle at She-Ra’s new look?
- Honestly, why did anyone ever say Spinnerella and/or Netossa were weak? Their fight here really shows how powerful both of them are when they don’t hold back.
- “Stop holding back. She won’t.” Looking past how hard this must be for Netossa, this line really sums up why so many characters in shows like this seemingly become more powerful when they turn evil (or less powerful when they turn good): Because the bad guys have no reason to hold back.
- Adora firing a rainbow beam from her sword was amazing. I wish we’d gotten to see a bit more of She-Ra’s new powers this season.
- “Please. I love you. Come back to me.” I’m crying 😢. That’s a nice first taste of all the “I love you”s to come in the finale. And I love that it works (even if just for a bit). The whole “power of love helps you break free from mind control” thing might be a cliché, but it’s a cliché I love, so…yay, awesome!
- But also, and I’ll probably talk about this more when I get to the next episode (that I had a few problems with), I like how Netossa doesn’t only rely on the power of love, but still realizes she has to first fight Spinnerella without holding back to get her into a position where they can even have this talk.
- Yay, mushroom town is saved!
- Catra reassuring Netossa that Spinnerella will be okay was so sweet. She’s really trying to be nice and I think she’s doing great 🥺. (Also, Adora looks at her so proudly.)
- I just noticed that when She-Ra replaces the Horde symbol in the sky with her sword symbol, all the Horde flags around town are already gone, too. Did Catra, Glimmer and the others just like… take all of those flags down in between fighting the bots? Or did Wrong Hordak maybe walk around taking off the flags while the others were fighting?
- That said, the rainbow sword in the sky looks amazing.
- “I think Horde Prime is going to know She-Ras back.” “Good.” Love Adora’s determined expression here.
- Geez Horde Prime, no need to punch the screen. The screen didn’t do anything to you.
- Okay, so Horde Prime finally decides to go to Etheria himself, and when he announces that, Hordak looks at the crystal in his hand – it’s all coming together.
- “This is where the rebellion is hiding out?” “Yup. Why, have you been here?” The looks on Glimmer and Catra’s faces here are amazing. People have of course already written all kinds of amazing metas analyzing their expressions, but the short version is that Glimmer seems to remember their fight fondly, while Catra seems embarrassed.
- Perfuma trapping them all in vines and demanding to see their necks is not only hilarious, but also shows that the rebellion has learned from their past mistakes. 👍
- All of their reunions (Bow and Perfuma, Glimmer and Frosta, Adora and Swift Wind, Entrapta and Emily) were super sweet – I like big reunion scenes 🥺. Wrong Hordak meeting Emily was adorable. Perfuma clinging to Bow and crying about how she doesn’t want to be in charge anymore had me laughing so hard 😂.
- Okay so, I know Frosta’s punch breaks the mood a moment later, but I really think Adora wanting to officially introduce Catra to everyone after seeing her standing there alone while everyone else was having big reunions was super sweet. The way her face falls when she sees Catra standing there sadly, the way she asks her to come here so gently… it’s just so sweet. 🥺
- Also, unpopular opinion, but am I the only one who didn’t really find Frosta punching Catra funny? (And the same goes for Scorpia electrocuting her in the next episode, by the way.) I know these moments are meant to be cathartic “drag the former villain because some people are still mad at them” moments, but Catra’s whole story is largely about being a victim of physical abuse. Wasn’t there some way for the story to make fun of her without having other characters physically assault her? I like how Catra’s redemption was handled overall, but moments like those kind of rub me the wrong way. (Netossa trapping her in a net was fine though, because that didn’t actually harm her.)
- That said, Adora’s “Catra’s with us now. Okay? Hmm.” was hilarious. I love how she just gives the briefest explanation and then turns away from Frosta with a smile and little “hmm”, just completely expecting Frosta to be fine with this now.
- That ending shot of all of them together is epic.
So, what changed this episode is that Erelandia was freed, the space group has reunited with the remaining princesses, and Horde Prime is heading for Etheria. Good episode!

Oh, maybe Catra confusing what's real and what isn't sometimes and not believing that this is real, because she thinks prime is still inside her head, messing with it and creating fake realities?
There were triggers.
It took them awhile to pick out the pattern, unfortunately. And the time in the interim did nothing to endear the princesses to Catra.
Netossa took the blame the first time, when she patted Catra’s head during the celebration party and Catra froze for a moment before whirling and lashing out. She missed, thankfully, her gaze distance and glazed over. She shook it off fast enough, stuttering an apology, but Netossa was easy going enough to apologize for surprising her.
Mermista was less accepting the second time it happened.
No one was really sure of the series of events - Mermista had found Catra and Melog in the hall, and Melog managed to knock Mermista out of the way before Catra struck. They’d pinned Catra down until reality reasserted itself, leaving her pale and shaken. There had been a rather pointed and cruel comment about Adora keeping her pet under control. And Bow had been forced to hold Adora back, lest she accidentally start a war with Salineas.
“What happened?” she asked Catra later, in the safety of their bedroom. Catra hadn’t had much to say in her own defense.
“I don’t know.” She was curled up against the wall, face hidden in her knees. Melog was encircled around her, shielding her from the world. “I felt... I felt like I wasn’t here, like... like this was a dream or something? I don’t know.”
Adora knelt in front of her, keeping her distance, hands up. “It’s okay. You didn’t sleep well last night, right? Maybe you’re just tired.”
She relaxed slightly, letting out a long breath. “Yeah. I guess. Maybe.”
The third time drove the point home that something was really wrong.
“Entrapta, are you sure you’re not going to break the table?” Glimmer asked tiredly, watching Entrapta rewire the war room table to connect it to one of her own machines.
“Absolutely! Ninety-nine-point-nine percent!”
“That’s not-”
“Here we go!”
The pink table flickered for a moment before turning a shade of lime green which lit up the walls in an eerie aura. Catra, who had been resting her head in her arms on the table, immediately shot up, wide-eyed.
“Sorry,” Entrapta said cheerfully. “This is from a hard drive Hordak helped extract from Horde Prime’s ship, it should give us a general idea of where to start with dismantling the rest of his empire and freeing the planets he’s taken over...”
Blood rushed through Catra’s ears, drowning out all external sound.
Little sister...
No. NononononononononononononoNO it couldn’t be, it couldn’t, he was dead-
Did you really think anyone would come for you? You said it yourself - your precious Adora doesn’t care about you. Your life is worthless. You don’t matter to anyone except me.
“No!”
Everyone jumped as Catra screamed, the noise almost immediately followed by her chair falling over as she staggered away from the table. Her back hit the wall and she dropped to her knees, entire body folding in on itself, eyes closed, hands against the back of her neck.
“Catra?” Adora stood, but was immediately blocked by Melog. Even the alien cat was keeping their distance, as if they knew Catra wasn’t in the right stand of mind.
She was back on the ship, listening to the sound of footsteps on metal floors, mechanical sounds whirring overhead, her hair slicked back against her scalp, the chip in the back of her neck-
It’s not real, it’s not real, it’s not real-
What’s not real? Horde Prime taunted her. Me? Or your friends?
“Entrapta, turn it off,” Glimmer snapped. The princess immediately listened, glipping off the switch and turning the room back to its regular color. Adora tried again to approach, but Melog growled, keeping her back.
“What’s wrong with her?” Frosta piped up from behind, almost sounding worried. Even Mermista couldn’t keep the shaken concern out of her expression. This wasn’t anything any of them had expected.
“I don’t...”
Catra had fallen asleep in Adora’s lap. Adora had panicked when she felt her (former?) friend’s grip loosen, but of course she was exhausted. The last few days must have been hell.
Bow and Glimmer set up a room for her, and Adora insisted on carrying her, refusing to let her go until she absolutely had to.
There was no warning before Catra woke, right as Adora was setting her down. Her eyes shot open, pupils immediately shrinking to pinpricks; Adora barely missed being clawed before Catra vaulted off the bed, hitting the floor with a painful thud.
“Catra-!”
“Shut up!” Her voice was surprisingly strong. She curled in on herself, hands clasped over the back of her neck. “What do you want?” The question baffled Adora into silence. “She’s not coming back, I already told you, she won’t, she wouldn’t, she...”
Catra drifted off into a dry sob. Adora tensed, teeth clenching together as realization set in.
Oh.
Adora straightened up, hands held out in surrender. “It’s okay,” she told Melog gently. They made a noise, ears falling against their skull, mane flaring purple. “I get it. Let me talk to her, please.”
Melog considered her for a moment before backing up and settling beside Catra. Adora took a few steps forward and knelt, still giving Catra space. She was whispering to herself, too soft to be fully heard, her claws digging into her neck almost enough to draw blood.
“Hey.” She kept her voice soft, noting the shudder that went through Catra’s body. “Catra, look at me.” She shook her head. “Please?” Another head shake. “This is real, I promise. It’s not a trick.”
“She wouldn’t come back for me.” The broken defeat in Catra’s voice was like a knife in Adora’s heart. She ignored it, forcing her laugh.
“And somehow I’m the dummy here.” Catra’s ears flicked slightly. “Do you really think Horde Prime would just fake his own death to trick you? We both know he’s way too egotistical for that.”
Catra choked out a little laughed, although her body didn’t relax. Adora took a chance, reaching out to rest a hand on Catra’s knee. It didn’t immediately spark an attack, which she took as a good sign.
“He’s not real.”
She’s not real.
“You’re here. You’re safe.”
She would never come back for you.
“I love you.”
She’s lying.
Catra shook, letting out a small sob. “Stop...”
Adora’s fingers tightened on her knee. “Focus on me, Catra. I’m here. I’m real. It’s okay.”
Melog’s pulsing mane slowly faded back to blue as Catra retracted her claws. Adora held her breath, waiting. “How do I know you’re real?” she finally whispered.
“Because I kicked Horde Prime’s ass and I’d do it again if I had a chance?”
One hand slowly slid down to rest over Adora’s. “Promise?”
“I promise.”
Catra unfurled a bit, allowing Adora to drag her into her arms and hug her tight.
They weren’t flashbacks, exactly - more like hallucinations. That was how the healer in Mystacor tried to explain it when Catra talked to her (after nearly three days of Glimmer trying to convince her that it would be good to talk to someone who understood mental trauma in a way that could help). They were things that hadn’t happened, but that Catra was afraid would happen - that she would wake up back on that ship, that Adora had never come to save her, that she was still Horde Prime’s willing little sister.
Melog helped as an active buffer; a third party who hadn’t been present at any point in Catra’s life before Prime, and something her mind couldn’t really make up. Adora learned a few ways to help Catra ground herself. The problem was that anything could be a possible trigger, and the only way they could learn what set Catra was off was by waiting. They figured out color and touch pretty quickly, but there were other things, like certain words or phrases that would put Catra right back on the ship like she had never left it.
“Maybe you should’ve just left me there,” she muttered dejectedly into her pillow one night. Adora immediately abandoned the map she was working on to sit with Catra, gently brushing her hair back.
“The fact that you thought I really would leave you there is a bit insulting, you know,” she joked.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to offend your hero complex.” There was no heat in the words. “What good am I if I can’t even keep reality straight?”
“You can’t judge yourself based on something that you have no control over.” Adora’s fingers paused over the back of her neck, inches from the scar left by the chip (now surrounded by several fresher, lighter scars from various flashbacks or hallucinations).
“Doesn’t make me any less dangerous.”
“The only person you’re a danger to is yourself.” Adora lightly traced one of the newer scars. Catra shivered slightly. “If I tell you I love you and it’s worth it, can you at least believe that I believe that?”
“Of course I believe you believe that. You have a bleeding heart.”
Rude, but fair. Adora lied beside her, pulling her into a hug. “Then believe that I can make my own choices and I don’t need you to protect me from you.”
Catra was still for a long moment before she leaned into the hug, relaxing. “Remember those stupid drawings we did on your bunk?”
“Our marks, you mean?”
“Yeah, something to remember us by when we were ruling the place as adults.” Catra smiled into her shoulder. “Which one was red and which was blue, again?”
“Uh, I was red, obviously.”
“Why obviously? Red isn’t exactly your color, princess.”
It was one of their small ways of grounding Catra. A lot of their memories had conflicting details despite being shared - even things as tiny as which of Octavia’s eyes Catra had scratched out (Adora swore it was the left eye, Catra would die thinking it was the right eye). Horde Prime’s illusions had never been detailed enough to think of Adora’s memories being different - Adora would have just agreed with anything Catra said. Possibly the most unrealistic thing of all.
“You don’t even know what red is.”
"Oh yeah? Did you hit your head hard enough to fix being colorblind at some point?”
“Are you asking me about brain damage? Seriously?”
They never did get around to figuring out who was what color, but it didn’t really matter - Catra had accomplished what she had wanted to do.
This was reality. No matter how much her brain tried to tell her otherwise.

Small yet sad moment (rant)
Something small I didn't realize earlier:
Tumblr media
So you know how once Hordak is told Entrapta is on Beast Island by Double Trouble he straight up destroys his work and tries to murder Catra? I always was a little confused as to why he would just try to murder her right there instead of like punishing her by torturing her or something else like sending her to Beast Island as well. I thought this until I went back and watched it recently and realized something...
Tumblr media
He's not angry and disappointed during this scene like he was when she lost Shadow Weaver as he remains calm and collected during their speech.
Tumblr media
I originally thought the tears was just sadness due to the betrayal and a bit of worry for Entrapta's safety or just some Entrapdak stuff and then I really though about it. Hard. Why would he destroy his work that he has spent his entire time on Etheria researching? Why not punish Catra instead of going straight for the extreme? To me, there is only one possibility:
He thinks Entrapta is dead.
Many characters state about how “No one comes back from Beast Island.” and Shadow Weaver says something like “Anyone who goes to the Island becomes a part of it, forever.”. Except for, as we find out, Micha and Entrapta, it seems the statement has been true, that no one has ever escaped the island alive, so why would he believe that she could survive? Sure, she may be a technological genius, but Entrapta literally never directly hurt anyone in the show (the wiki says it and I am pretty confident she hasn't hit anyone), so she can't really defend herself well without involving contraptions.
This is why he was willing to go such lengths for revenge. The only person who had ever cared about him/loved him was sent to an island where no one survives, so why should he care about anything anymore? He even stated he wanted to continue so that he could face her in combat, as he still cared about her, even if he felt mostly anger towards her at the time. He wanted to kill Catra, because she had sent Entrapta to certain doom over something trivial, and hid it from him for so long.He could care less about the war or killing his top leader. All he cared about was revenge.
And when Horde Prime came for him, he did not fight back much, as he did not care about many things anymore. He had lost everything, and as Prime says, “...you wished I would not come for you.”
All this just make the whole episode a whole lot more depressing for me.

Medical Practices
A She-Ra: Princess of Power 2018 fanfiction
Hordak have never been to a doctor in his life, nor did he want to; however, after some convincing, he agreed. They know nothing about his illness nor how to treat it, so they need the advice of a professional. Now he and Entrapta are traveling to a doctor's office on a nearby planet, all the while King Micah is reluctantly chaperoning.
*Part Two to Where Do We Go Know?*
_______________
I'm back from the dead.
Sorry, I've been gone for so long. After my vacation, it's been hard to spew out the words on my laptop. Sorry, this chapter is small. Thanks for reading!
_______________
Chapter 1: An Inconvenient Arrangement
Entrapta rubbed her eyes as she sat up on her large bed. She could only see the lavender sheets stretched across her large, circular bed surrounded by thick, maroon curtains. She heard the door to her bedroom swish open, unaware of who was entering. She listened to the sound of leather-soled shoes rustling against the carpet. Her curtains slowly opened, revealing a tall figure with glowing, crimson eyes carrying a tray.
“Good morning, Princess.” Hordak mused in a low, yet inviting, voice.
“Good morning, Lab Partner.” Entrapta yawned, still groggy from waking up.
Hordak took off his boots and sat next to Entrapta. He placed a tray filled with miniature pancakes on her lap and turned on the lights.
“Have you already eaten?” Entrapta asked, starting on the mini pancakes on the tray.
“No, but it would only be in vain. I doubt I would be able to keep anything down due to the schedule for the day.” Hordaks ears drooped.
“Hordak, you’ll be fine. I’ve got you one of the best doctors in the Eternian star system. I promise they will take good care of you.” Entrapta wrapped her fingers around his hand, giving him a reassuring squeeze.
“Thank you, Princess.” The couple laced their fingers together, a difficult task given their size difference.
“Did you sleep well last night?” She asked between mouthfuls.
“I always sleep well when lying next to you, Starlight. The Alliance is still letting us borrow Darla, correct?”
“Yeah, but there is one drawback. The Alliance won’t let us go without an escort.”
“Who have they chosen?” He asked, disdain coating his words.
“King Micah, Glimmer’s dad.”
Hordak’s ears pinned against his head as all the blood fell from his face. Micah hated Hordak, evident from the dirty looks he gave Hordak, and how he avoided Hordak like the plague. Hordak didn’t blame him. He would hate himself too, if one of his inventions trapped his beloved in between dimensions. Hordak was also aware of his banishment to Beast Island. During a battle, after Hordak started to focus more on his portal, King Micah was captured, but before anyone told him, Shadow Weaver sent him to Beast Island. Hordak knew of the witch’s past with the monarch but never thought she would send him to that accursed island. He conveniently found out after the war when Shadow Weaver was dead and gone. He really should have fired her ages ago. He shouldn’t have employed her in the first place.
Nevertheless, Micah was furious with him, and Hordak couldn’t blame him.
“What’s wrong? Micah’s not going to try and fight you. Just don’t go anywhere with him alone.”
“It is not that I am worried he will fight me. I just do not want him to be there, especially today.”
“Come on, Micah is nice. He was always respectful to me, and I was a part of the Horde.”
Hordak gave her a small smile. While her sins could never match his, he appreciated the sentiment.
——————————————
Micah sat in the cockpit of the ship as it flew to Dryl. He didn’t want to be doing this. He wished he was in Brightmoon sleeping in and being with his friends and family, but no. He had to chaperone two adults across the galaxy. One of them being Hordak of all people. He hated that man. If it wasn’t for his war he could have raised his family in peace. If it wasn’t for his portal he could still have his wife with him. Don’t get him wrong, he sympathizes with Hordak’s relationship with his parents, but it doesn’t excuse any of his actions.
He wished someone else had this task, but he was the only one available. Adora and Bow were off helping the villages in the whispering woods, General Juliet had her duties, and the rest were taking care of their kingdoms. He was the only one available.
Nevertheless, he will have to deal with him for the day. Then he can go back home and be with his family.
“*You have arrived at your destination.*” Micah’s looked up.
“Thank you… Darla.”
He walked out of the ship to greet the couple. Entrapta was clad in her usual top and overalls. Hordak’s eyes, framed in black eyeliner, had returned to his piercing crimson. He wore a crisp, white button-up tucked in black dress pants. His hair is in a long braid. Micah still couldn’t get used to this new look.
“Hordak.”
“Micah.” The two men locked eyes, seeing who will look away first. Entrapta stood in the middle. Her gaze bounced between the two.
“Thank you for accompanying us, Micah.” Hordak delivered curtly.
“Not a problem,” Micah answered his tone as plastic as his smile.
“Ready to go?” Entrapta asked, aware of the awkward tension.
“Yes.” The two men exclaimed. This is going to be a long trip, the three of them thought.

description: Hordak and the best friends squad travel to safe Entrapta from horde Prime in an angsty yet fluffy adventure
reading time: 15-20 minutes
age rating: all ages
not finished btw!!
"This is amazing! Look at all the data we can collect!” Entrapta yelled, drifting through the low gravity air. They were both currently on a random planet looking for leftover First One's Tech.
“Yeah…” Hordak sighs, and leaned back. "She's too good for me!" Hordak thought. "Besides, how could she ever like someone so terrible... I'm no better than Horde Prime."
"…So what do you think? Hordak?" Entrapta asked, snapping Hordak back to reality.
"Uhhh?? I think we should… collect dust samples? To see what planet we're on?" Hordak guessed, hoping he didn't sound insane.
“Wow, what a great idea! I never would have thought of that!” Entrapta smiled, then went work collecting dust samples.
“That's what I'm here for…" Hordak sighed, then bent down and started getting samples too.
"Don't be ridiculous!" Entrapta smiled. "Your here because your my friend- and my lab partner!" Hordak blushed and smiled back. Before he could get anything, they was a loud BANG and smoke was EVERYWHERE, completely blocking Hordak's vision.
“ENTRAPTA!!” Hordak screamed, desperately feeling his way through the smoke.
"HOrda-" Entrapta cried, but was suddenly muffled by a foggy figure.
"MWAHAHAAHA, HORDE PRIME HAS RISEN AGAIN AND THIS TIME, HE WON'T FAIL…" And just as suddenly as the smoke came, it cleared, leaving nothing behind except Hordak, standing alone on a random planet.
"So you're saying… one of Prime's clones took Entrapta and then said ‘Mwahhahaha, Horde Prime has risen again and this time he won't fail?’"
"Yes…"
"Hordak, if this is a plot to try to defeat us… I'm not interested." Adora said, and started walking away. Hordak fought back the urge to grab Adora and choke her.
“DO YOU SERIOUSLY THINK I WOULD JOKE ABOUT ENTRAPTA?! THE ONE PERSON I- never mind,” Adora glances back and sees how serious Hordak is.
“Well then… uh… I'll call an alliance meetingShe
Everyone is talking loudly when Adora and Hordak enter the room.
"Ahem. EVERYONE!" The room quickly quiets down. "Hordak, would you mind explaining what happened?" Adora asked.
Hordak reluctantly stood up in front of everyone.
"Entrapta and I were on a planet looking for extra First One's Tech when one of Prime's clones grabbed Entrapta and disappeared." Everyone was clearly shocked and slightly nervous, but Catra seemed to be taking it especially hard.
"H- Horde Prime?" Catra tentatively said.
"As far as we know, yes," Adora sighed. "Okay, so all in favor of trusting Hordak and trying to find Entrapta? Hands up, please?" Everyone slowly raises their hand but Mermista. "Mermista?"
"Look, I'm all for saving geek princess and becoming heroes again, but exactly WHY are we trusting Hordak? What has he done to help us?" Mermista asked. "Most of us weren't even on board with the whole Catra thing, and now this?!" Adora sighed, knowing all the princesses probably thought the same thing.
"BeCAUSE, if this is real we could lose Entrapta, AND we've seen how dangerous Prime can be. We gotta trust Hordak, or risk losing EVERYTHING." Adora explained.
"Okay, first of all, that is very flawed logic, second of all, how are we ever gonna find her in the first pl-" Before Mermista could finish a video message showed up on everyone's tracker pad.
"H-hello? Hordak? If your watching this it means I've programmed this right! I don't have much time, but I'm at the planet Skylen, please hurry, they're about to put the chip in!" A voice from farther away speaks. "Entrapta, WHAT ARE YOU DOING." Entrapta looks terrified. "Please, I don't want to lose everything yet!!! Hurry!!! I gotta go, they're gonna hurt m-" The message breaks off in static. Hordak is clearly panicking now.
"Is that enough to convince you, Mermista? Okay, Bow, prepare the ships…" Adora continues to give orders when Catra thinks of something.
"But Adora… none of us knows how to remove chips…" Catra says, then realizes exactly what that means, along with everyone else. "…None of us can remove chips. ADORA!! I CAN'T GO BACK THERE!! I DON'T WANNA DIE…"
"Hmmmm... I can probably find a way to remove the chips based on Entrapta's old tech… might hurt a bit though…" Bow muttered, then started drawing on a napkin. Hordak didn't realize how on edge he was until he yelled.
"You will NOT make ANYTHING that could HURT Entrapta, or anyone else. UNDERSTAND?" Hordak yells, then sighed, and said "Sorry. Sorry. It's just…" Hordak couldn't bear the thought of Entrapta going through what he had- if she didn't remember him…
"Bow, is there ANY way to stop the pain?" Adora asked.
"I'll try to work something out," Bow said, than walked out muttering to himself.
"Alright. SO. Catra and Glimmer? Up for a rescue mission?" Adora nervously smiled. Glimmer's hand shot up, Catra's hand went up slower.
"Bow will obviously come to." Glimmer said.
"Ok! If there's no questions, you are all dismissed!" Adora said, then walked out.
"Um… Adora… could I speak with you for a second?" Catra asked, nervously leaning back and forth.
"Sure, what's up?"
"Look, I.. I'm scared. Ok? I don't wanna lose you, if we get chipped I may never see you again,"
"Oh, Catra…" Adora hugged Catra hard. "We can't just abandon Entrapta, she's been left behind too many times before," Catra tenses at the memory of her shocking Entrapta. "As for Hordak… well, we've all seen it. As for you staying, I understand. This is scary for me too. If you want to stay, that is perfectly fine. You don't have to shove down your fears anymore."
Catra smiles. "I love you, Adora,"
"I love you too," Adora replied. "To the moon and back,"
Adora walks along the hallway messing with her tracker pad when she bumps into Glimmer.
"Adora! Just the person I was looking for! So, uh, is Hordak coming with us?"
"…I really don't know. This could all be fake- Hordak's pretty good at manipulating people. And Catra's already terrified. I'm not sure if it'd be the best idea…"
"That's true, but lets be honest- none of us are exactly good with tech. And you've seen how forgetful Entrapta is, she didn't even remember me! Hordak's the only one she seems to have a true connection with- like you and Catra!" Adora hadn't thought of it that and considered.
"I suppose we gotta take him… I'm just nervous…"
"Well, I think we should. I'm not forgiving him but he could help." Glimmer said.
"Ok. Just… we gotta be careful." Adora sighed.
"I know!!" Glimmer said. "I'm gonna go tell Bow, see you soon!" She ran down the hall and bumped into Wrong Hordak. "Oh! Hey! Could you ask Hordak if he wants to come on a rescue mission with us?"
"Oh hello, sister! Of course! Thank you!" Wrong Hordak grinned and winked. "Goodbye now!"
"This is all my fault."
"It is not, brother. You couldn't control what happened!" Wrong Hordak said to Hordak. "The princesses would like to know if you want to come on a rescue mission, you should go!"
"But what if I mess up again?" Hordak cried.
"But what if you don't? What if you don't come, and Entrapta is lost forever?" Wrong Hordak asked.
"…You're right. Fine. Tell the princesses I'll come, and ask when we leave. And, uh, th- thank you,"
Wrong Hordak squeals. "Oh, brother!! You are most welcome!! I'm sure you'll do great!" Wrong Hordak ran out of the room to tell the princesses, leaving only Hordak and his thoughts.
"Great news, sisters! Hordak will be accompanying you on your journey!"
"That's, uh, great," Adora sighed. "Thanks."
Glimmer smiled at Wrong Hordak. "Night!"
"We leave tomorrow at 6. Tell Hordak." Adora said.
"Will do! Thaaaank yoooou!" Wrong Hordak winked and walked out.
"Welp. The ship is ready!" Bow said, then hopped on. "Let's go, you guys!" Everyone hops on. "Ok, so, we have limited space- Hordak's room is on the right, me 'n Glim's in the middle, and Catra and Adora's on the left. I brought some stuff this time… we might need supplies…-but anyway, yeah! You probably wanna sleep some more... I was NOT on board with the 6 o clock thing."
Everyone went into their room except Catra and Hordak. They stood awkwardly trying to avoid eye contact. Catra was the first to speak up.
"Look, Hordak, I- I'm so sorry. I know I hurt you and everyone and honestly I don't deserve forgiveness- from anyone. But for what it counts, I regret everything. I was horrible. I was so much worse than you. I'm so, so sorry." Catra cried. Hordak sighs, then speaks.
"Neither of us deserved a redemption. I didn't even have one. You did horrible things, but in the end, we both did. I've tried hating. Maybe I could try forgiving." Catra runs to him and hugs him.
"Thank you. And, uh, don't tell anyone about the hug. Or any of this, really. Please."
"Don't worry, I'm not exactly thrilled with you hugging me either. But I won't say anything."
"Not even to Entrapta?" Catra asked.
Hordak blushes. "We'll see."
"Entrapta?"
"This is all your fault!"
"I'm sorry!"
"HORDAK! HORDAK!"
"HORDAAAAK!"
"-AAAUGH! What the HECK?"
"Sorry, but we're here. Are you coming?" Adora asked.
"Y-yeah. Sorry. Lets go." Hordak said quickly. Everyone jumps down onto Skylen.
"Here we are… Skylen. Its gorgeous…" Glimmer sighed.
"Not as gorgeous as you!" Bow smiled.
"Could you guys maybe, oh I dunno, shut up? We're on a rescue mission, if you can't remember!" Catra said. Catra agreed to come eventually but was clearly on edge and terrified.
"And we need to be quiet!!!" Adora shushed. "Lets go!" They slowly walk around until they find a room. It was small, but clearly being guarded well.
"Woah… Looks like SOMEONE got an upgrade…" Catra whispered.
"Glimmer? I hate to ask this but do you remember where you were kept?" Adora quietly said.
"I- um- …no" Glimmer admitted.
Adora sighs. "Ok. Well, as long as we're careful, we should be ok for long enough," Hordak looks ahead and gasps, memories flooding his head- none of them pleasant.
"What is it?" Asked Adora. Then she notices Horde Prime "RUN!!!!" Adora screams.
"WAIT. I come in peace. IF you stay put." Horde Prime said. "I'm only asking for… Hordak."
"NEVER!" Hordak screamed. "I JOINED THE SIDE OF GOOD AND I'M NEVER GOING BACK!"
"Oh, I'm sure we can change that," Horde Prime smiled. "Once you see… Entrapta…" He turns a screen on, and Entrapta is projected.
"ENTRAPTA!!!" Hordak screamed.
"Hordak..?" Entrapta hoarsly whispers. "HORDAK!!! YOU GOTTA GO!!!! HE'S GONNA-" Horde Prime turns the video off.
"That's quite enough. I shall bring her out to you with tape over her mouth, and then I shall set the terms and conditions." Horde Prime snaps, and one of his servants gets Entrapta. She is covered in cuts and looks pale and weak. “If you do not accept, Entrapta will be brutally killed, and your "friends" will be chipped. If you accept, I will have mercy on Entrapta.”
"I- I…" Hordak stuttered. Entrapta uses her last bit of energy to rip the tape off and yells. "HORDAK, DON'T DO IT!!!! DON'T DO IT, PLEASE! ITS NOT WORTH I-" Entrapta screamed. Horde Prime gives her a cut and then pores green stuff on it, Entrapta passes out
"ENTRAPTA!!!" Hordak screams again. "Please… don't make me do this!"
"You have one day. You will be kept in the prisoners room, and since I would rather not hear you scream for each other, you get a room together." Horde Prime said. And so they were escorted to their room.
"Hordak… Hordak… you left me…"
Hordak reaches out infinitely for an illusion. An illusion where Entrapta won't be chipped. Where she'll be safe. But like every dream, that illusion soon shatters, leaving only a broken heart.
"…Hordak?" Adora says. "Wake up. Horde Prime decided to move all of us to a different room. You'll be alone now." Adora quietly walks out.
Hordak sighs. "What am I gonna do? I can't let Entrapta die, I CAN'T. But I canNOT have my memory erased again… and why isn't everyone else fighting Prime? Are they too scared that they might lose their loved ones? I guess I understand that… I could try sneaking out… yeah, I'll try that." Hordak tries desperately to break the barrier, but of course, fails. "AAAAARGH, PRIME!" Hordak screams. Horde Prime appears suddenly, almost as he has been listening for that cry of anguish.
"Your day is up. What do you choose?"
"I- I-"
"Your second is up." Horde Prime smiles cruelly. "However, I am merciful, and won't kill Entrapta."
Hordak looked relieved- for a second.
"What are you going to do to her instead?"
"Well… I see it fit to chip her," Prime smiled. "In fact, she's been chipped already! Child, come to me."
Chipped Entrapta walked up to Horde Prime and smiled.
"Hello, Hordak."
"Entrapta… NO, NO, NO!!!" Hordak yelled. Hordak panicked and ran for Entrapta but Prime blocked him.
"I'll leave you two alone… enjoy, Hordak," Horde Prime said, and walked out.
"Entrapta…" Entrapta walked up to him. "Please, Entrapta. Just try to remember… anything…"
Entrapta simply smiled and walked up to him.
"You're the one who left me. Why would I ever go back with you?" Hordak flashes back to sending Entrapta to Beast Island, only to find Catra lied and betrayed him. His heart still breaks at the thought of sending an innocent Entrapta to die on Beast Island. Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed at his stomach- Entrapta had started squeezing him using her hair.
"Come on, lab partner, join the light of Horde Prime. I'm happy here, free from… imperfections." Hordak was on the verge of tears.
"Worthless."
"Useless."
"Everyone hates you."
Those stupid thoughts wouldn't leave him, but throughout it all… Entrapta didn't leave her either. Hordak reopened his eyes suddenly with a new light of hope burning in his heart.
"Entrapta, please! I'm not leaving you again!" Hordak yelled.
"But you already did! WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?" It was getting harder and harder to fight off Entrapta without hurting her. "You are NOTHING to me, you are nothing to ANYONE, all you are is a WORTHLESS IMPERFECTION." Hordak's eyes widen in shock and sadness, memories of torture and abuse from Horde Prime that he had desperately tried to forget came back. But he forced himself to stay strong.
A single tear fell from Hordak's neon red eyes, but he smiled.
"Wanna know your only weakness? You're not the real Entrapta."
By then they had worked their way to the edge of the platform with a 60 foot drop, all the way down. Entrapta tried to kick Hordak but slipped and started falling.
"ENTRAPTA!!" Hordak grabbed on to her before she could fall, tears streaming down his face. Entrapta wasn't holding on and his grip was slipping.
"I'M NOT LEAVING YOU AGAIN!"
Entrapta seemed to be breaking free of Horde Prime's control, her eyes rapidly flashing from a purple-pink to a neon lime green.
"Hordak…." Entrapta eyes flashed one more time then stayed on purple. Tears started falling down her face too, and she tightened her grip on Hordak's hand. She smiled sadly. "It really is you..." Hordak started pulling her up when her eyes turned bright green again. She let go and fell, tears still streaming down her face.
"ENTRAPTA, NO!! PLEASE…"
Entrapta gasped, and at the last second grabbed on to the edge with her hair. Hordak helped pull and up and they hugged, tears falling down, no words said, just love.
Adora, Catra, Glimmer, and Bow all sit in the prison room together.
"Adora, I heard screaming. Should we try to see what's going on?" Catra tilted her head, worried for Entrapta and Hordak.
"Catra, do you really see a way out? Adora, what do you think?" Glimmer asked.
"I think we should try to make a deal with Horde Prime!" Bow added. Everyone started fighting over what to do, each one trying to yell over the other. Eventually Adora snapped.
"Everyone, SHUT UP!! Catra, I DON'T KNOW. Glimmer, I DON'T KNOW. Bow, I DON'T KNOW!! FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF!! WHY AM I ALWAYS IN CHARGE?!" Everyone sat in a shocked silence. Catra slowly reached her hand over to Adora's and grabbed it.
"We're sorry, Adora… we know how stressful this must be for you. You've always been the hero." Catra whispered.
"No, I'm sorry. I'm just so worried. If Entrapta's really chipped... We could be in big trouble."
"We know, Adora," Glimmer said. "And y'know… I think I might have an idea."
Entrapta was clearly weak and in pain, and it wasn't likely she could live much longer without being healed. Hordak didn't know what to do, but hoped to god Adora and her friends would break out and help them. He cursed Horde Prime for hurting the only one he had ever cared about, shoving down the sudden urge to find Horde Prime and murder him. Until Adora, Catra, Glimmer, and Bow came, all Hordak could do was hold on to Entrapta and wait. He wanted to go find them but was scared that if he left, Entrapta would be taken away and reconditioned. He knew how horrible that felt. So he waited. Entrapta seemed to be asleep, but luckily Hordak could feel her breathing. He was so grateful she was still alive but knew it could all be taken away in a second. And so he held on to her and hoped.
Hordak didn't want to wake Entrapta up, but was getting anxious. He could hear her breathing but was terrified it still wasn't really her.
"How are you feeling?" Hordak whispered.
"I dunno. Its weird. Everything's… faded."
Hordak silently sighed in relieve. Everything was bad, but at this moment, together, in each other's arms… at least that part was okay.
You can't love someone unless you love yourself first, they said. Lies.
I have never loved myself.
But you,
Oh god, I loved you so much I forgot what hating myself felt like.
"What's your idea, Glimmer?" Adora asked, still holding on to Catra's hand.
Glimmer grinned in excitement.
"What if… you give me some of your power, y'know, kinda like you did when you healed me, then I would have enough strength to teleport us out of here?"
Everyone looked shocked.
"That's… actually a really good idea!" said Catra, getting excited too.
"I think we should at least try." Adora mustered a small smile, before transforming. "FOR THE HONOR OF GREYSKULL!!"
"Its a good thing you learned to spawn your sword." Bow remarked, watching She Ra walk up to Glimmer and hold the sword above her head. Glimmer's eyes sparkled, she may love Bow but she was still very bi. She Ra started glowing brightly, magic coursing through her veins. Glimmer could feel herself getting more powerful, and it felt amazing. Never had she been so alive! She Ra continued for another few seconds before dropping to the ground in exhaustion, turning back into Adora.
"ADORA!!" Everyone ran for Adora, Catra in the lead. Glimmer gently shook her.
"Are you ok?"
Adora groaned, then slowly sat up.
"Yeah… I'm fine. Glimmer, can you teleport us out?" Adora asks, glancing around as if regaining her composure. Glimmer's grin was huge as she stood up with her fists out as if ready to punch Prime and all his clones.
"Heck yeah I can!" She seemed to be extremely energized and grabbed on to them all. "Suck it, Horde Prime!" She yelled, and teleported them all outside.
"Glimmer! You did-" Bow yelled. Glimmer covered his mouth.
"Bow, my great friend, my dude, my boyfriend, you gotta shut up."
"Oh. Right." Bow whispered. "Any idea where they could be?"
"We should first check Hordak's prison, and if he's not there, head to Horde Prime's throne room. Adora said. "I think I know where it is. Glimmer, got enough energy left to teleport us?"
"I have the energy for ONE HUNDRED teleports!!" Glimmer grinned, eyes glowing. She teleported them to Hordak's cell.
"Guess he's not here. I wonder if he accepted the deal?" Adora asked. Catra eyes widened at the possibility, it was clear she was worried about Entrapta and Hordak.
"Should we try the throne room?" Glimmer asked, eager to keep moving.
"Yeah. L- let's go." Catra was anxious to move too, and so Glimmer grabbed on to them and teleported them to the throne room.
They teleported to the throne room where they saw Entrapta and Hordak on the very edge of the platform.
"ARE YOU GUYS OK?!" Catra yelled, terrified when she saw them on the ground, thinking they were dead. Hordak jumped, shaken by the sudden noise. He sighed in relief when he saw it was them.
"I'm fine, if you don't count emotionally traumatized as an injury," Hordak glanced at Entrapta. "Entrapta's... Entrapta's alive."
"What HAPPENED?!" Adora asked, running over to them.
"Entrapta got chipped. That's all that's important right now. She needs immediate care." Hordak said.
Catra glanced at Adora.
"Adora, are you strong enough to heal Entrapta?" Catra asked. Entrapta was still on the floor, barely able to sit up.
"I…"
Adora was obviously tired, but she knew this was important to everyone. "I'm fine." She said.
Catra could tell she was lying.
"Adora…"
"I said I'm FINE!" Adora yelled. Everyone looked taken aback, including Hordak and Entrapta.
"Adora… you've been on edge this whole trip. What's wrong?" Catra asked.
Adora glanced around at the shocked and slightly scared faces. She sighed.
"I dunno. I've just been stressed… I'm sorry. I should've told you. Its just, I'm always the hero, I never get a break, every day I save someone new… I'm tired. Ok?"
Catra tilted her head in sympathy.
"Its ok. You know you can tell us anything, right?"
"Yeah. I'm really sorry." Adora sighed, then hugged Catra.
"I love you, Adora."
Adora smiled and hugged her harder.
"I love you too. And thanks. But... I- I don't think I'm ready. To fully heal her, I need to energize." Adora looked down at her feet. Hordak was extremely worried about Entrapta but decided to let Adora rest.
Catra smiled. "Its ok! Y'know… you don't always have to be the hero. But we really do need to get going." Catra looked at Entrapta, then smirked at Hordak. "Hey Hordak, if Entrapta's too weak to walk, which seems to be the case, mind carrying her?"
Hordak blushed hard and glared at Catra. She just kept smirking at him.
"…Fine."
Catra grinned at him.
"Ok, everyone back to the ship, we need to hurry before Horde Prime finds us!" Adora said. Hordak blushed again, and picked up Entrapta. They ran to the ship and quickly hopped on. Adora shut the door behind them and flashed a small smile.
"That was amazing, everyone. I… I think I need to rest. But I'll heal Entrapta as soon as I can."
Catra and Adora walked into their room, leaving Bow, Glimmer, Entrapta, and Hordak. Bow and Glimmer glanced at each other.
"Ok, so… Hordak, we prepared a room for Entrapta, its to the left." Bow pointed to a small room. "You can put her there."
Hordak nodded and started walking where Bow was pointing. He walked in and set Entrapta on the bed, but was clearly anxious to leave her alone.
"Thank you." A voice cut through the silence. Hordak jumped again, startled by the noise.
"…Entrapta?"
"Thanks. For saving me, I mean."
Hordak smiled. "You're welcome."
He walked out, feeling happy and sad and confused, but for now, he was just relieved everyone was safe and together… And that he had Entrapta. That was the most important thing to him.
~The next day~
Entrapta was clearly uncomfortable without her mask and gloves, and most importantly, the chip. She kept running her fingers over the chip and her multiple scars and wincing.
"Adora, shouldn't we try to remove Entrapta's chip? Horde Prime is still tracking us."
"Catra, I don't know… there's really no way to remove it."
"What about… Hordak?" Catra tentatively asked. Adora tensed up.
"That's… I'm not sure."
"Adora, obviously I'm not trusting Hordak. But I don't think Entrapta OR Hordak would agree with one of US removing her chip. Plus, we'd probably kill her." Adora flashed a small smile.
"I guess you're right. Its just…" Adora was interrupted by a scream.
"AAAAAA!!"
"ENTRAPTA!!"
Catra and Adora glanced at each other then ran to where the noise was.
Entrapta was on the floor being electrocuted, the electricity coming from her chip.
Catra gasped when she saw what and stepped back, guilt flooding her. She still felt terrible about shocking Entrapta, this just made it a thousand times worse.
The electricity stopped, leaving Entrapta on the floor, even weaker than before.
"Yeah, so…" Adora sighed. "Hordak, can you remove the chip?"
Hordak slowly walked over to Entrapta who was sitting on a bench in the middle of an otherwise empty room. He was terrified. He couldn't do this. He was going to lose everything, until… Entrapta reached out and grabbed his hand.
"Hordak, I believe in you."
That gave him confidence, but… he knew he could do it. But what if he couldn't? He kept worrying and stalling when suddenly Entrapta was shocked again by her chip. This time when the shocking stopped, her eyes were flashing between green and purple again. He knew it was now… or never. Her eyes eventually stopped flashing and she looked at him, desperation in her eyes.
"Please, PLEASE, you've got to get the chip out."
Her eyes brimmed with tears while saying this. She looked so sad Hordak almost cried himself. He wanted to, but… he wasn't programmed to show emotions and was still getting used to being accepted as himself.
"Anyway," he said to himself. "You've gotta focus."
"Are you ready?" Hordak asked Entrapta.
Entrapta clenched her fist and nodded.
"I'm ready."
Hordak first examined the chip closely, seeing if removing it would do any damage. He gasped when he saw how much it had already became a part of her.
"Um... Entrapta…"
Entrapta looked at him, tears starting to fall.
"If I removed the chip… it could-"
Entrapta clenched her fists harder.
"It would kill me."
She said it so quietly, so defeated, Hordak had never seen her like this. She was Entrapta- she would never, ever give up on something so easily. But this… this was different. Hordak could tell.
Hordak started walking out of the room Entrapta was in, suspecting she wanted to be alone, and anyway, he needed to talk to the princesses about this. Just as he was exiting, he heard a small voice.
"Hordak?"
Entrapta spoke, clearly trying to hold in tears.
"Please," she said. "Stay."
Hordak walked back over to her, and sat down. He reached for her hand and awkwardly took hold of it, but didn't know what to do to comfort her other than that. He had always been bad at socializing, he was raised in a place where emotions and comfort were forbidden. Entrapta was the first person he seemed to be able to easily talk to. And so, for her, he tried.
"I… everything is going to be ok." Hordak said.
At this point Entrapta didn't even try to hold in her tears.
"How do you know?" She asked him.
He thought for a moment, then spoke.
"I'm not going to let you die, or Horde Prime hurt you. I will find a way to keep you safe and get your chip out if it means have to work on it for months. I am never, ever, losing you again."
Entrapta looked at him. "Really?" She quietly said.
"Really." Hordak pulled her into a hug, smiling. Who cares about power, control… when you can have this. His eyes widened when he realized what "this" was. Love.
"So… did it work?
"Don't you think I would've told you if it worked?"
Hordak, Adora, and Catra were sitting at a table, discussing the latest events. "Prime must've upgraded his tech- if I tried to remove the chip, it would kill her."
Catra and Adora glanced at each other.
"Any idea what you can do?" Adora asked.
"Well… technically, there's not a 100% chance she'll die, but in her current state, its extremely likely. If She Ra could heal her, it-"
Catra grabbed on to Adora's arm.
"No."
"Catra, she's going to DIE," Hordak and Adora said at the same time, though Hordak clearly was stressed out more.
Hordak sighs. "I could... TRY to remove her chip, with enough precautions, it might be ok."
Catra glared at him. "Good. Then do that."
Adora looked between the two of them, nervous they were going to kill each other before Entrapta even had a chance to die.
"Guys, calm down. Hordak, I… I wanna make sure I can save my energy until I can fully heal her. However, I can use a bit of power to increase her chances of living. With precautions, hopefully she should be fine. And Catra, I can make my own decisions." Hordak's ears perked up a bit, while Catra's went down.
"But-"
"Now's not the time, Catra." Adora said firmly in a way that made Catra shrink back. "I'm going to heal Entrapta. Don't kill each other." Adora walked into Entrapta's room. Hordak stayed for a few s—econds, fidgeting, but gave up and raced after Adora. Catra sat there, watching him leave, and just for a second, wished she was dead. She was scared, that's all. Adora seemed to hate her. Everyone seemed to hate her. She walked down a hall, it didn't matter which, and saw a window. She opened it. Just for a second, she stuck her head out. She couldn't breathe, anyway. She never could. The weight of what she did in the past pressing on her chest smothered her. No air didn't make a difference. And just for a second, she considered… jumping. And then she snapped out of it, jerked her head back in, slammed the window shut, and walked to her room. She gulped in air. She was okay. She would survive. She always had. Now was no different. It all just felt like a game. Everything felt faded. She lied down, closed her eyes, and prayed for sleep to come. Temporary death.
Hordak caught up with Adora just as she entered Entrapta's room. She was lying on the bed, shivering, pale and weak. For a second, Hordak thought he caught Entrapta's eye, which was filled with sadness. He shook himself, though, knowing better than to trust himself in times like these. Adora transformed into She Ra and walked over to her. She Ra put her sword above Entrapta and healed her, eyes glowing brightly, power flowing through her veins. After a few moments She Ra lowered her sword and transformed back into Adora.
"That should help," Adora said. "Are you ready?" Hordak hesitated, looking at how bonded the chip was to Entrapta, but nodded.
"I'm ready."
Adora wished him luck, and walked out. Hordak made his way over to Entrapta and sat. Entrapta barely managed to sit up, clearly struggling. Hordak wanted to cry, she looked so hurt, cuts covering her and the chip leaving scars. Hordak reached for her hand, pulled back, then reached for her hand again. He grabbed it. Entrapta smiled.
"I trust you."
Hordak smiled back nervously. He then reached for his tools and examined the chip to see the easiest way to remove it. This wasn't going to be easy. But he'd do it. For Entrapta.
~Entrapta's perspective~
The pain coming from the chip killed her. Removing it felt worse than just letting it be. She gripped her bed, trying not to cry out. The pain... She was blacking out. But she tried to stay calm and focused on breathing. It was terrible. It felt like a knife stabbing her, over and over. She knew the chip had to be removed, but her body felt like it had been thrown off a cliff. She tightened her grip on the bed, a whimper escaping her. Hordak immediately stopped and looked at her.
"Are you okay?!" He asked, worried. She took a shaky breathe and nodded.
"Yeah, keep goi-"
Suddenly a sharp pain like nothing before hit her, making her cry out in pain, this was agony, she was dying… and everything went black. She woke up to see Hordak staring at her panicking. He saw he open her eyes, gasped, and hugged her hard.
"I'm so sorry. I- I don't know what happened, something must've-" She got a better look at him and realized he was crying. Her eyes widened.
"The chip… is it out?" She asked quietly.
"Yes, I managed to get the chip out shortly after you blacked out. Are you… do you feel okay?" Hordak asked, trying to calm down.
"I…"
For a second they just looked into each others eyes, and thought of everything that had happened since they first met years ago. "God, why can't I just admit it?! Everyone else knows!" Hordak thought.
"But what if… Entrapta thought. "He doesn't like me back?" Then they both quickly looked away, embarrassed.
"I feel okay."
Hordak gave a small smile. The moment was over. But someday…
He will tell her.
She will tell him.
A few hours later it was night time- though it was hard to tell, considering they were in the middle of a galaxy. After an awkwardly quiet dinner of bread rolls and fruit- the fruit the star siblings served Adora, Adora noted with glee- it was time for everyone to head in for the night.
Adora yawned. "I'm gonna go sleep. We should be landing sometime in the morning, so prepare yourself."
Everyone nodded and walked to their rooms. Hordak walked in his- to find Entrapta quietly sleeping on the mat Hordak was given to sleep on. Hordak gave a fond smile, thinking about how Entrapta reminded him of a kitten, before shaking himself. Where in the world did that thought come from?! He stood there awkwardly, trying to figure out what to do. He couldn't move Entrapta and risk waking her, she was fragile and Hordak didn't want to disturb her. He couldn't bring himself to ask for an extra mat, knowing the extra mat was going to come from someone- most likely Adora. He sighed, and lied down on the cold, hard, floor. While the mat wasn't much, there was a nice blanket and a solid barrier between your body and the floor. He tried to sleep, but his back was killing him, the ground pressing on his head, and horrid thoughts kept drifting in his mind. Thoughts of… Horde Prime.
After awhile, Hordak must've worn himself out enough to sleep lightly- but not heavy enough that the sound of soft footsteps wouldn't wake him. Hordak groaned, slowly opening his eyes. He had heard footsteps. He glanced over to Entrapta and her mat, and…
Entrapta was gone.
Hordak jumped to his feet in a second, racing to the door and peering out. No Entrapta. He rushed outside, searching the many corridors for Entrapta, heart pounding, until he saw her, simply sitting at their makeshift dining room table.
"ENTRAPTA!!" Hordak called out, careful to keep his voice down.
A startled Entrapta jumped, before turning around.
"O- oh, it's j- just you…"
Hordak immediately recognized the fear in Entrapta's eyes. The same fear that had flooded his body at every sound or movement days after he was freed from Horde Prime. He guesses she went through the same traumatic experience, more or less. Hordak walked over to Entrapta and sat down.
"What are you doing up?" Hordak asked, awkwardly sitting next to Entrapta.
She took a moment to respond.
"I- well, I didn't e- eat lunch. Or dinner. Or breakfast, for that matter."
Hordak's blood ran cold.
"Why not?!"
Entrapta was on the verge of tears, which Hordak realized and adjusted his tone accordingly.
"I mean, why didn't you?"
Entrapta relaxed slightly and sighed.
"I still thought- well, I still thought the whole thing was an illusion," Entrapta admitted. "That any second, Prime was going to come wake me up and I'd see you- I mean, ALL of you- dead at my feet. By the time you unchipped me and I really believed I was free… it was too late for food," Entrapta let out a weak sob. "And I thought… maybe… if this whole thing was an illusion… I could knock myself out of it by, uh… dying? Or not dying really, but starving."
Hordak's eyes widened in shock.
Oh.
Wow.
A sudden urge took him over, and he hugged Entrapta. Hard. Entrapta let out a small gasp of surprise, but caught on and hugged him even tighter.
"I'm sorry. I'm so, so, sorry this happened to you. I wish I could have stopped him before this whole thing started. You deserve the world, Entrapta. I- I-"
"I love you."
Entrapta drew back in an instant after that, eyes widening. But it only took her a second to throw herself at him. They kissed, tears streaming down Entrapta's cheeks, happy and sad and weak and messed up and in love and HAPPY. Even though life wasn't perfect, they were both so, so, happy.
They went on like that for awhile- Hordak trying to keep track of the time at first "for science!", but giving up and just enjoying it. Besides, if it was up to Hordak, this wasn't be the last time.
They eventually got up, Entrapta beaming.
"That was amazing!! Thank you thank you th-"
"Wait, Entrapta. Your cuts? They're gone!"
Entrapta glanced down and gasped. The scars. The chip. Everything.
Entrapta laughed uncontrollably, so happy she could burst. Her laughter was contagious, because soon Hordak joined in. After a few minutes, they both calmed down.
"Do you really love me?" Entrapta asked, still giddy from the kiss.
Hordak smiles and nods. "Always have. And… I always will."
Entrapta grins, and they slowly walk back to their room. Hordak stares in hatred at the floor, mad at it. Entrapta catches his glare, and laughs.
"Hey… wanna sleep on the mat with me?"
Hordak hesitates, embarrassed, but eagerly nods. They both slide in and fit quite comfortably.
Entrapta drifts off to sleep in a few minutes, along with Hordak. But right before Hordak shuts his eyes…
"I love you to the moon and back, Entrapta."

Beautiful Children Ch. 2
Warning this chapter contains a flashback with both Adora and Catra being abused physically, emotionally and mentally! If you do not want to read this feel free to skip the all italicized flashbacks. Sections are broken up by "---" marks at the center. Skip these sections if that abuse is not something you want to read. Adora's flashback starts with "E...everyone accounted for?" and Catra's starts with "Catra bit her tail, stifling a sob."
Like my writing? Consider buying me a Ko-fi! No amount is too small and it really helps! If that isn’t an option, no worries! Reblogs, sharing, comments, spreading the word is equally appreciated!
“Let me get this straight,” Glimmer rubbed her temples. “Catra found a baby? And no one on this ship has claimed it as there’s?”
Adora nodded, holding the little infant to her. It has ceased crying and finally slept in the poorly made swaddle Bow had fashioned for it.
“Not one person?” The queen demanded.
“Honey,” Bow consoled from his place in the captain’s chair. He put the ship on auto-pilot and put an arm on his wife’s shoulder. Glimmer relaxed a little under this touch but eyed Adora sharply.
“And where is she now?”
“Who?”
“Catra!” Glimmer suppressed a hiss of irritation.
“Oh, she’s….she’s helping Perfuma and Frosta make people comfortable.” Adora couldn’t help a swell of pride in her chest.
“She is?!” Bow visibly gushed, “that’s sooo...cute!”
“Bow! Can we get back to the matter at hand?”
Bow nodded, regaining his composure though he glanced at Adora, beaming.
“You found a baby, and it doesn't belong to anyone here?”
Adora glanced down at the sleeping thing, baby, kitten, kit? What were baby magicats called? It’s little mouth puckered, sucking on nothing but hope for some milk. Her chest warmed, watching it sleep and gurgle. She held the kitten closer to her.
“No, I went around and asked twice. So did Catra, it doesn’t have any parents.”
“It’s parent’s mustive….” Bow’s look of joy diminished for a moment, “must’ve died in the bombs or…” he didn’t finish the sentence but Adora knew, her stomach churning with disgust.
They could’ve been chipped by the Brotherhood, we could’ve killed them….
Her fingers tightened around the blanket that held the baby.
“...and Catra said it’s a magicat? Like her?”
Glimmer asked more quietly, coming around to peer at the sleeping infant. Her face turned up in the slightest of smiles.
“She didn’t but it must be. It’s got ears and tail just like her.”
Glimmer reached out, touching one hand to its smooth cheek. A little too hollow for what should be a pudgy baby, but still adorable.
“How old do you think it is?” Bow asked, leaning over Glimmer to get a better look. Adora shrugged, adjusting the baby in her arms. It stirred, all three of them holding a collective breath. They watched in suspense, as it’s face scrunched up,  brows furrowing. A short little mewl escaped it’s mouth before it settled back down, snorting a little and finally falling to silence.
It’s so cute, so precious. Poor thing.
She leaned down and placed a kiss upon its forehead, inhaling the smell of the battlefield and still somehow fresh life. Destruction and birth. Adora shuttered. Looking down at that new face, so oblivious to everything around it, content in sleep. Thick blonde eyelashes, pink little lips, perfect small brows, each finger curled into a little fist, it’s...
“Catra! There you are, get in here!”
Adora looked up, sucked from a daydream.
“We got any more food in this joint?” Catra glanced at Adora and made a beeline for one of the storage units in the cockpit.
“Catra,” Glimmer raced after her, grabbing her by the shoulders all but dragging her over. “This baby is it? Is it like you? A magicat? What do they eat, how old is it?”
Catra blinked, face drawn. Her eyes flicked from Adora, to the baby and back to Glimmer. She glared, folding her arms across her chest.
“There weren’t exactly any other magicats in the Horde!”
Adora watched her visibly flinch and moved to stand beside her wife. Holding the baby with one arm and putting a hand to the small of Catra’s back with the other. She stiffened but didn’t shy away.
“I just thought, since you are one….” Glimmer pressed, leaning closer to an ever flustered Catra,
“You would know! What they drink, how much sleep they need, how long they stay with their parents after birth?”
“Fuck should I know Sparkles?!” Catra’s tail bristled, “my parents abandoned me when I was a baby! Dumped me outside the Fright Zone in a fucking box.  They didn’t want me and I don’t want anything to do with them!  I don’t know shit about magicats and I honestly don’t fucking care alright?! Now where do you keep the extra food, we have people out there who need it!”
This baby needs someone to take care of it… . Adora thought
Glimmer stumbled backward, Catra’s ears pinned to the side of her head as she strode forward rummaging.
“It’s, it’s okay,” Adora began slowly, swaying from side to side as the baby slept. “We just...we’re trying to get more information so we can take care of it,” she reasoned, smiling looking at the little thing sleeping in her arms.
Catra stood stick straight, ears pricking up.
“Take care of it?”
Bow looked between them,
“What...what else are we supposed to do?” Glimmer asked quietly.
“Take it back to Etheria!” Adora announced.
“Leave it there!” Catra huffed.
Bow, Glimmer, and Adora snapped around, eyes wide. Adora swallowed her shocked gasp, adjusting the baby to lay against her chest, instinctively closer. Bow’s eyes nearly bulged from his head. Glimmer’s lips only tightened. Though the ship moved gracefully through the sky, everything else seemed to go still.
“.....L...leave it there?” Adora recovered lamley.
“But we already took off,” Bow offered, nervous, “we can’t turn around and leave it there on an abandoned planet.”
“Are you crazy?” Glimmer demanded deadpan. Catra snorted, pulling out tins of perishable food from the storage cabinet. They could be put into the re-hydrater in the kitchen and served in no time.
“We’ll find the nearest habitable planet and leave it there.”
Before Adora could retort the magicat turned on her nimble heel, arms full of food and punched the door lock with her elbow, all without sparing a glance at the little baby in her wife’s arms.
They exchanged a look after the door slid shut.
“Well….whatever we do with it, we better figure out fast. We’ll be back in Brightmoon by this time tomorrow,” Bow answered reviewing the flight map.
Adora mustered a nod, her heart sinking with pity at the little baby smooshed against her. It’s warmth radiated, the feel of it’s small form against her’s. Fluffy and light, so….trusting and pure somehow. Innocent.
She kissed the top of its golden head again, relishing in the touch. She closed her eyes,
Calm.
Serenity.
“Adora?...Adora! Earth to Adora!”
“AAAhh!” Adora screamed, Glimmer manifested before her surrounded by pink bubbly magic. She instantly bit her tongue, looking down at the peaceful baby. It’s face scrunched up once more, it’s little mouth turning to a frown.
“Shhh, shhh, it’s okay! It’s…”
“Ehhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!”
“Oh no, no, no it’s okay, shhhh,” she attempted to soothe, rubbing circles on its back and swaying to and fro.
“I was going to ask what you think we should do,” Glimmer began, even as Adora started to pace the small cockpit.
“I don’t know,” she mumbled, walking rhythmically, feeling the baby’s tiny body expand each time it let out a pitiful wail. She should feel it’s lungs working overtime, it’s stubby tail twitched.
“Shhh you’re alright. You were having such a good sleep!” She cooed, patting its back.
“Adora?”
“Hmm?”
“I need to get out there and help the others,” Adora could sense the lack of patience ebbing at the queen’s voice. She may have larger duties to attend to, other priorities but Adora could only think of one thing at the moment. The thing that cried into her ear, the thing with little fingers grasping at her skin.
“I know, it’s...it’s okay, I can take care of the baby. You go see how everyone else is doing.”
Glimmer bit the inside of her cheek before she could verbalize any rebuke.
Probably something about SheRa and babysitting duty, Adora guessed.
“I need to go assist the others. Once it’s asleep come find me. We have lots of people we have to figure out where they are going once we get to Brightmoon and make sure they have all necessities. And we will want to question some of them about the brotherhood. Just...just come find me as soon as it’s asleep okay?”
Adora nodded,
Hope it takes a while, that way  I can spend more time with them,  she thought fondly, continuing to rub circles over it’s back. Her hands knew the repetitive motion well. Catra continued to get nightmares at least three times a week.
Glimmer stared at her a few more seconds before shrugging and going over to give Bow a quick kiss. The door opened, then slid shut again, and Adora was left with the small kitten.
---
“E...everyone accounted for?” Adora wheezed, rubbing the bruise on her left cheek. Rogelio growled, nodding from where crouched, rubbings his tail.
“I...I think so,” Kyle panted, he moved mechanically on his hands and knees, wincing as he picked up his staff and collapsed it into his holster.
Adora looked around the area, scanning the large circular room for any splattering of blood or broken equipment. A large black screen loomed down over them from the right side wall. Even without Hordak’s impossing image, Adora’s stomach tied in knots. He didn’t need to be on the screen in order to see them.
We failed, she sniffed, fighting tears. She rubbed them away with the back of her hand, the skin red and hot.
Probably burnt.
She fought another round of tears.
No.  Don’t cry. Shut up. Who else is left, who else is hurt? You are not what’s important right now.
Adora swallowed the tight lump in her throat.
“Catra? You okay?”
“Hmmmph fine,” the younger girl answered, she licked at her right forearm. Face stuck in a scowl.
“Lonnie?”
Adora crouched down to see under the metal beams.
“Lonnie you okay? I saw you really took that last hit hard!”
She held her breath, anxiety hinging on the other girl’s answer.
“I’m okay.”
Adora deflated with relief, watching Lonnie limp out from behind one of the metal beams.
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Must’ve banged my ankle.”
Adora glanced down at the cadet’s red boot. It wasn’t falling off, her limp wasn’t that bad.
“Okay. Just take it easy I guess.”
Lonnie eyed her with quiet resolve but nodded and slunk over to Rogelio.
“Adora! Get up!”
Adora sprang from her bed that evening, heart hammering in her chest, body suddenly drenched in a cold sweat.
Two vacant white eyes, soulless and blank stood over her.
“Sh...Shadow Weaver!”
“Shh! Do not wake the other cadet’s. Come with me now.”
Adora nodded, still shaking. Rising from her bed. She spared a look over her shoulder. The top bunk still appeared to be occupied.
Good Catra’s still asleep.
It wouldn’t be the first time Shadow Weaver had woken her at some immeasurable hour only for her to find Catra restrained in the Black Garnet chamber to teach the two of them “a lesson.” Adora put a hand to her chest, trying to calm her heart as Shadow Weaver led her down the empty echoing halls of the Fright Zone.
“Umm...Shadow Weaver... where are we going?”
“Shhh! Did I permit you to speak?”
The sorceress demanded without turning towards her. Adora sunk her head low. Allowing her golden hair to hide her face.
“No ma’am.”
The sorceress nodded, motioning for Adora to come with her as they rode down one of the many elevator shafts. Adora stood silent, straight.
Don’t ask questions.
Only speak when spoken to.
Follow orders, don’t disobey.
You’ll be punished.
Or more accurately, Catra would be punished.
The elevator stopped, Shadow Weaver exited, gesturing for her to follow. With dragging feet Adora continued down the lengthy hall. The red emergency lights cast an eerie glow. Illuminating the walls.
“Infirmary,” with an arrow pointing further down the corridor.
Who’s in the…?
They stopped, Adora craned her neck to see through the glass window, into the sick bays.
“Who is that?” Shadow Weaver pointed one grey finger at one of the beds.
Adora jumped up, trying to see, then gasped.
Lonnie?!
“Who is that cadet speak quickly!
Shadow Weaver demanded, leaning forward. Shadows rippled from her robes.
“Lonnie! It’s Lonnie! Is...is she okay?”
“I don’t know cadet, you tell me! She was in your training exercise this morning.”
“I ...I know!” Adora spluttered, ringing her hands through a lock of hair. “She...she was! She took the last hit from one of the bots! I asked her if she was okay but….”
A shadow leapt from the sorceresses robes, Adora shrieked, flinching as it zipped toward her, through her fingers and into the strand of hair she fiddled with. It sizzled and smoked, a fowl stench filling Adora’s nose.
‘Don’t play with your hair!” Shadow Weaver thundered, “look at me! Lonnie is in your squad! You were in charge of the drill. She is hurt.”
“I...I know!” Adora’s voice cracked, tears pressing at her eyes. She wrung her fingers together watching nervously as the shadow drifted through the piece of hair, pulling it back, against her head. She pinched her eyes shut in discomfort at the tense yank of her scalp.
“Adora!”
Shadow Weaver crouched over her.
“I...I asked her if she was okay! I asked her if it hurt! She said it would be fine!”
“And you took her word for it?”
“Y...yes!” Adora broke down in sobs.
“Why didn’t you bring her straight here?”
“I….” she looked up, over at where Lonnie lay asleep on a cot. “I didn’t know,” she whined, tears streaming down her face.
“She had to be bright here on stretcher, after waking some other cadets earlier. Crying in pain Adora and now she’s out of commission for a week while the leg heals. A week!”
“I...I’m..s...s...sorry!”
Adora’s chest cracked with guilt.
Poor Lonnie. She was in so much pain! She should’ve told me! I should’ve helped her! I should’ve made her get it looked at!
“Lonnie is in your squad. You protect people in your squad Adora. That is the job of a leader. Protecting people and making sure they are not harmed. You must always look after those in your care. Who’s fault is this?”
“M...mine,” Adora whimpered. A hot runny line of snot snaking from her nose.  “Louder cadet!” Shadow Weaver snarled. Her shadows rising around her.
“Mine!” Adora shrank back against the wall. “It’s my fault Shadow Weaver! I should’ve kept a better watch on her, I should’ve made her show me the wound. I...I should’ve protected her more!”
“Very good Adora,” the shadows dissipated.
“While Lonnie’s out you will take over her latrine duty for the next week.”
Adora knew better than to show objection on her face. She only sniffled, pulling up her shirt to wipe her nose, wishing she could bury her face inside it forever.
“Y...es Shadow Weaver.”
“And?” The sorceress asked.
Adora drew a shaky breath, finally managing to meet those gaping eyes.
“Th...thank you Shadow Weaver. For teaching me. For this lesson. I’ll...I’ll be better.”
“Indeed you will.”
The sorceress took off down the hall once more. Leaving Adora in the black cold hall. She watched Lonnie sleep until she too dozed off, curling up on the metal floor.
I’ll be better.
I’ll be better at protecting.
Protecting Lonnie….
Protecting Catra
---
“Thank you Shera, thank the stars!” Adora grinned awkwardly at the woman, helping her sister to wrap the elder in a blanket.
“We’ll be on Etheria soon.”
The woman nodded eagerly, but the exhaustion was not lost on Adora.
She parted ways with the family giving a nice pat on the shoulder and moving along down the rows of people now displaced from their town. The baby had finally gone back to sleep, after walking herself dizzy.
“Adora!” Glimmer’s sharp voice found her through the throngs of people.
“Glimmer hey! Sorry the baby took longer to get down than I thought.”
The queen smirked,
“They usually do. But you should go rest for the night you look beat. We can...we can talk infant stuff tomorrow before we land.”
“That’s okay!’ She waved Shera’s glowing, gauntlet hand. “I can do more! I haven’t finished passing out the blankets! And… and people are wanting to know where they can make a new home once on Etheria! That family over there…” she gestured to a family of five, “they lost their house and their shlooping business! We’ll need to help them get back on their feet! I need to find out what shlooping is!”
“Adora,” Glimmer  “it can wait. We have plenty of volunteers to help with supplies and there is a whole team already in Brightmoon working on helping people once they arrive. Please rest. You need to rest.”
She’s right. Once I transform back I’ll be exhausted, her mind whispered to her. She learned the hard way that while Shera could heal herself no problem, the Adora of afterward still felt fatigued and sore.
“You sure?”
“Yes,” Glimmer gave her a grateful sigh. “Please go rest. I’ll see you in the morning.” Adora nodded, leaning down to give her friend a tight hug. One large hand rubbing her back.
“It’s been a hard day for you too! You should also rest! If you need me to be on flying duty so you an Bow can get some time together…”
“That’s what autopilot is for,” Glimmer gave her a knowing wink, slowly withdrawing from the embrace.
“Goodnight, Adora.”
“Goodnight Glimmer.”
---
Adora slipped into the room with practiced stealth, holding her breath at the sliding door as it closed. She turned, taking in her and Catra’s tiny room on the ship. A storage compartment, galley bathroom off the side one plain table where Adora placed her sword and one large cot. If by large you meant barely enough for two women. She sighed, breathing out the day, her body rippling with the transformation from glorious warrior woman to…
Just Adora.
She straightened, closing her eyes and rolled her neck through the dulling ache in her joints. It was inevitable now everything she changed back to herself. But it was worth it of course.
Adora changed, quiet as could be. Tip toeing around the confined space to pull off her jacket and into her simple nightwear, a white little gown that Bow got for her last New Moon Day. She let her hair fall down, cascading around her shoulders in straight blonde locks and edged towards the bed, smiling. Cramped as it was, the little room did offer a perfect view of the stars before them. The entire ceiling and one of the walls made of pure glass. The eternal stream of stars glistened against the purple black of the universe, bathing their room in a cool tranquil shade of deep indigo shadows.
Catra rustled from her place on the bed, eyes slits of glowing gold and blue in the night.
“Sorry! Did I wake you? I tried…”
Adora crouched over her, the woman only smiled sleepily shifting beneath her. Adora shivered feeling Catra’s tail wrap around her leg.
“Mmmm no love,” Catra rasped through half conscious daze. Adora couldn’t help but feel her heart skip a beat. Of course she treasured every moment with Catra but this….these sleepy half-awake moments might be her favorite.
She’s so soft when she’s sleepy.
Most people only knew Catra as prickly at best and outright aggressive at worst. Even towards Bow and Glimmer Catra retained her aloof pessimism but here, cloaked in darkness, she was always able to reveal the truer deeper parts of herself. A part of her only Adora was privy to. The Catra that purred, the Catra who sang to her, the Catra who could be so vulnerable and soft and even sometimes romantic. Only in the darkness, only in secret, only with her.
Been that way since we were kids. Just the two of us huddled up in my bunk terrified of being caught. Risking it all the same.
Of course except the night we did get caught….
Adora’s stomach tightened at the memory, her hands clutched at the sheets, she bit her lip.
You should’ve thrown the blanket over her, lay down on top of her the second you heard footsteps! You should’ve pushed her off like every other close call! If you’d been more alert Shadow Weaver wouldn’t have caught you. She would’ve dragged Catra by her hair to the Black Garnet Chamber and…
“You gonna kiss me or what?”
Catra’s low voice purred, carrying Adora from that terrible night. She obliged, leaning down to kiss her on the lips. Warm and smooth, her breath full and humming. Adora almost fell on top of her, though by the way she purred, it’s not like Catra would probably mind. Adora kissed her again, this time longer, running her fingers through the brunette’s hair.
“Mmm you smell nice, like Shera,” Catra murmured, planting more sweet delicate kisses on her lips.
“That’s why you married me isn’t it?” Adora whispered, returning her kisses. She let her hips drop lazily against Catra’s. Her wife let out a hitching gasp, one hand coming up to caress Adora’s cheek. She drew back only slightly, breath whispering across Adora’s lips.
“I married you for power. Being Shera’s wife? You can’t get any higher up then that.”
Adora giggled, her fingers carding through the messy brown hair towards Catra’s ears.
“Are you sure?” She teased, allowing her hips to roll over the other woman’s. The scratchy gray blanket easily gave with the weight and Adora raised her brow as Catra let out a loud satisfied humm, her heavy lidded eyes closing.
“Mmmsure.”
Adora’s smile widened,
I could watch her like this forever.
She kissed Catra once more, this time deeper, breathing her in. Tasting her.
Close your eyes, relax, un-tense your shoulders. Let this calm you. Let her make you happy just the way she is.
Adora sighed into another kiss, undulating her hips again. This pulling a husky moan from Catra who tightened her grip on Adora’s shoulders. Her claws retracted, thankfully.
“Don’t start something you don’t intend to finish,” Catra breathed, planting kisses all along Adora’s jaw.
“Oh I fully intend to. Finish that is. Get it?”
Catra rolled her eyes, but her back arched upward hips thrusting into Adora’s. She kissed her fervently, lips tracing over the mark of the Heart of Etheria. Adora groaned, inpatient. She carelessly tossed the flimsy blanket to the ground and leaned over Catra, her hair creating a golden curtain around  their faces. She thrust again, their hips bumping through thin nightclothes. The arm that wound through Catra’s hair now reached downward, running over the contours of her wife’s lithe sides, over her jut of her hip bones to the slight  bulge of her stomach and lower.
“A...Adora,” Catra whimpered, kissing at her neck her fingers clutching to Adora’s back.
“I….I...should go check on the baby,”
“What?” She felt Catra stiffen against her.
“I think I heard it crying,” Adora protested, withdrawing her hand from it’s position right above the line of her wife’s pajama pants.
“I have better hearing than you,” Catra grumbled, ears pinned backward to her skull. “I would know if it was crying. It’s not crying. Even if it is, who cares?”
“Who cares?” Adora cried, gaze turning fierce. “Catra it’s alone and abandoned on this ship with no family. No parents! What if it needs something? What if it’s in danger?”
“Who cares? I care! We’re all alone on this ship, finally! What if I need fucking, what if my labito is in danger?!”
“I….I just need to check real quick I promise!”
Catra changed tactics, sitting up and kissing at Adora’s chest, at her breasts through her slim nightgown. Hands coming up to rub circles over her sides.
“There are plenty of people on this ship,” Catra’s voice fell back to it’s lazy slow rasp. “Let Bow or Sparkles or any of the other princesses or volunteers take care of it.” She kissed Adora’s sternum, nibbling a little at the silk gown.
Glimmer and Bow probably moved it from the cockpit where I laid it down to sleep. Who knows where they put it? Bow wouldn’t endanger the baby. He’d put them somewhere safe. But where? It could be crying right now. From all the way across the ship tucked into some compartment? Even Catra’s hearing isn’t that good!
“We’ve been fighting and going for days. You’ve been taking care of all these people. Let me take care of you now okay?” Catra asked softly, she held Adora’s face with her hands, fingers carefully rubbing into her wife’s temples.
“I  just need to see the baby and make sure they are okay!”
Adora tossed her head from Catra’s grip.
“Adora!”
Her pupils narrowed to tiny slits in the dark.
“No Catra. We found it, it’s our responsibility.”
“No it’s not! What are you….”
Adora jumped from the bed, getting her jacket.
“Adora it can wait! Please! There are other people who can…’
“No it can’t! I have to do this. Just...stay here!  I”ll be back soon. Then we can do whatever you want.”
Adora punched the door key, dashing down the dark corridor.
---
Catra bit her tail, stifling a sob.
Can’t wake Adora. Not again.
In a fog of half-consciousness the little magicat’s tears ran down her face. Her little bum ached against the shabby cot. Long worn from years of use and reuse. She shivered, her thin coat of fur doing little against the dank bone chill of the Fright Zone barracks.
She heaved for breath,
It was just a dream. A...a nightmare...it...it’s okay.
She let go of her tail, laying down carefully and stuffing her face into the fraying pillow. Her body trembled with chill, her head stuffy from sleepiness combined with her snotty cries. Her eyes burning.
Don’t wake Adora.
Shadow Weaver will get mad.
Go back to sleep.
Go back to sleep.
Her belly squirmed with hunger. That relentless pain, combined with her nightmare of Beast Island had awoken her.
Catra heaved for more air, choking through the wracking sobs. She kneaded at her own tummy.
Don’t cry. Hold your breath. Don’t cry! Don’t…
“Catra!”
“AAAAHmmmmph!”
The magicat’s alarmed scream cut short as a tendril of shadow magic sealed her lips shut.
“Do not wake the other cadets. Come with me.”
Catra let out a whimper, scaling down her bed. Adora slept soundly beneath her.
Good, she won’t wake up and try to be the hero.
The magicat followed Shadow Weaver from the sleeping quarters down the halls to the Black Garnet Chamber. Despite the spell, silent tears streamed from Catra’s eyes. Her fur bristling.
She’s going to hurt me, she’s going to hurt me. She heard me crying and she’s going to hurt me or say I can’t eat for another day.
No, no, no no, no no.
They stepped into the harrowed chamber, the door slamming shut.
“If I take that binding spell off of you will you continue your yapping?”
She shook her head furiously, gasping as the shadow removed itself from her mouth. She heaved for air, tears trickling.
“I said quiet!” Shadow Weaver snarled, seizing Catra’s skinny arm in a vice grip, forcing her to her knees.
“Why were you causing such a fuss?!”
Catra opened her mouth and let out a wail.
“Answer me!” Red electric magic pulsed in the sorceresses palm.
“I….I had a bad d...dream!” Catra managed through her tears. “I was on Beas...beast...beast...beast island and...the...there were phookas...and and and…”
The fingers around her wrist tightened, sharp nails digging in.
“Ow! I had a nightmare! And...and ...and I woke up...it was cold and dark! AndI was hungry and ...th...thirsty! I ...was thirst…”
The smack cracked, worse than magic across her face. The back of Shadow Weaver’s hand burning through her cheeks and over her nose in a swift sharp pain.
“Ahhhhhhh!!” Catra shrieked, hands flying to her face, covering her throbbing nose.
No blood...n...not this time…
“You were thirsty so you began to cry waking the others?”
“I didn’t!” Catra tried, little fists balling. How quickly hurt hardened to rage.
“You could have! Hear me now you little brat you are to keep silent. Especially at night. Some of the cadets among you have potential and they cannot achieve that if they do not get their rest. If you are restless and awake at night keep it to yourself.”
“I was thirsty and hungry!”
Shadow Weaver’s magic crackled close to Catra’s aching  face. Sending a fresh round of tears flooding her eyes. She pinched them shut, trying to keep them from leaking out into the sorceress’s view.
“Then starve! Do you think I care what happens to you at night or otherwise? You lost your meal privileges for keeping Adora from her chores. You will keep your needs and wants to yourself because they do not matter. This is an army not a nursery. Your malcontent is selfish and no one’s problem but your own. Be silent. Do you understand me?”
“Mhm,” Catra sniffled refusing to meet her gaze.
“Speak up you little wretch. Or I will make you speak.”
Panic fluttered through Catra’s heaving chest.
“N...no! I...I won’t I promise! I won’t cry at night. I’ll….I’ll be quiet...I’ll be good.”
The sorceress turned, casting a cold glare over her shoulder.
“We’ll see about that. Now get back to the barracks. And don’t even think about scratching the walls on your way. Or I’ll have you de-clawed again.”
Ice formed in Catra’s gut. She clutched her right hand to her chest, tucking it in so Shadow Weaver couldn’t see the still healing claws protruding at her fingertips. Her chest pricked with the agony of that particular ordeal.
“I...I won’t! I won’t!”
“Good. Then get out of my sight.”
Catra sprang forward, dashing on all fours out of the chamber. She hurried back to the barracks. Creeping quietly past the rows of bunk beds.
Good, Adora’s still asleep.
Catra noted the little blonde girl. She’d kicked her blankets off  in her slumber. The magicat climbed up to her bed, pushing her sore face into the scratchy pillow. Trying to calm herself.
“Pst, Catra. You awake?”
Oh no.
“I’m fine, Adora go back to bed!”
As usual her friend would not be deterred.
“Are you sure you’re okay? I thought I saw Shadow Weaver leave with you.”
“I’m fine idiot just go to sleep!”
Please, please go back to bed, she’ll hurt me again if you don’t keep quiet. please . Please just sleep.
“Catra are you really, really sure?”
The magicat didn’t answer again. Nor did she ever answer from then on whenever Adora climbed up to her bunk to ask if she was okay after another midnight beating. She learned how to lick her wounds in silence. Rub her tummy without scratching through her shirt, swallow her parched throat without coughing. Stealth was one of her more animalistic qualities by nature. From that night forward Catra learned to cry so no one, not even Adora could hear her.
---
The baby was safe.
Adora found them sleeping soundly where Glimmer had tucked them against one of the corners of the main sleeping areas. Swaddled in a lilac purple blanket. Adora crept among the sleeping refugees only to nearly sob in relief upon seeing the little thing. It’s lips sucked soundlessly for milk that wasn’t there. It’s tiny tail curled as much as it could around its stomach. Adora had undone the swaddle blanket, to redo it herself.
Glimmer might have tied it too tightly. Not that she can’t take care of babies, of course she can. But I better check, just to make sure they are comfortable.
Sure enough the little kitten did not make a peep.
Adora reached forward, holding them in her arms, tucking them against her chest. Unable to resist the urge.
They look like Catra when she was a kitten.
Adora recalled fondly. That day, in hindsight was one of the happiest days of her life. When a little box was brought to the nursery and inside huddled a very emaciated little kitten. Angry and hissing. So adorable.
But from day one Shadow Weaver hated her. I...I couldn’t stop that hurt. I couldn’t protect her.
“But I can protect you,” she whispered into one silken ear. “I’m going to take care of you.” She rocked the baby back and forth. Their small fresh breath tickling her chest. Their weight just right in her arms. Adora hummed gently, swaying and bobbing to soothe them.
“When we get back to Etheria I’m going to keep you..”
The magikit gurgled in response. It’s eyes opening a sliver of pale blue in the moonlight. Adora felt her heart melt. She gazed, smitten down at the perfect bundle. She kissed their cheek, infant fir still a fuzzy coating over their skin. Adora breathed it in, sighing.  There was nothing else in the universe at this moment. Nothing so absolutely perfect. Nothing so treasured as the kitten she held. Overwhelming, terrifying and all consuming with devotion.
I can do this. I can protect them. I can care for them. I can be there for them. Be what they need. And Catra, she’ll make a great mother too. She just needs to get used to it. This...this is something I can do. Not a battle for Shera to win. Something for me, Adora to do. Something I have to do and this time, I  finally want to do.
Something glowed, Adora glanced down, mouth parting in astonishment. The Heart of Etheria still etched into her chest glowed with blue light.
She shivered, spine threatening to melt, the sensation of Finn’s  little fingers carefully grabbed at the mark as if to pull it from her skin. She watched their eyes widen in fascination, gleaming brilliant blue with the light. They flexed tiny fingers, pressing into her chest at the mark of the Heart.
Adora laughed, giddy, lifting them up over her face.   “I’m going take care of you Finn,” the name bubbling to the front of her mind as she kissed them all over.
“I promise.”

A strong light bears down over the palace floor, glinting off of the shiny metal object in Bow’s hands. He watches over the three girls cautiously, a look of determination in his eyes. Silently, Adora feels as if she’s being tested. She stands straighter in the hopes that she’ll seem more responsible.
Catra’s hand grasps hers, fingertips against fingertips. Adora’s chest warms at the mere feeling of Catra next to her. They’ve only been together for a few weeks, but each touch, each embrace, each word and motion and sound seems like a new story. She smiles, despite knowing that Bow’s watching her.
“Okay,” the archer says, eyes glued to the product in his hands. “So, here’s the plan.” Bow begins to pace, his footsteps lightly tapping against the shiny floor. There’s a nervous edge to him; Adora suspects he’s anxious about the mission.
She reaches out to stop him in his tracks, but Glimmer beats her to it. The queen balances her fingers gently over his shoulder, a smile sparkling over her lips. “Hey, it’ll be cool.”
“What’s going on?” Catra asks, pulling her fingers out of Adora’s grasp. She opts to cross her arms over her chest, pushing a curious yet bored expression over her features. “Why is Nerd Boy over there so anxious?”
Bow stops in his tracks suddenly and sighs. The metal item shivers in his trembling grasp. The light from overhead flashes over his face, illuminating a look Adora knows so well: feral, anxious excitement.
A small smile covers his face. “Okay, so I was doing some experimenting, and I got Entrapta to work on this with me. We were talking about that portal thing that Hordak had made a while ago.”
For a moment, he pauses, a darkness sweeping over his eyes. Adora’s heart stutters by the sudden mention of the fateful day. Catra looks away as a flush blows through her cheeks. A shiver takes over the four in the room.
I almost lost her, Adora thinks in despair. Her fingers itch for Catra’s again, just wanting to make sure she’s really here, that she’s really alive and breathing and really, really Adora’s.
Thankfully, as if understanding Adora’s silent request, Catra slips her fingers into hers again.
Bow clears his throat. “Uh, anyway. We got to thinking... what if there are other realities? Things outside of our own universe?” Excitement seeps into his voice and his eyes glimmer with energy. He’s practically bursting through his seams. Adora can’t help but to smile; she’s just happy to have things go back to their normal, casual ways.
Catra groans. “Oh, god, are you serious? Another alternative-reality thing? Didn’t we already live through enough of those for a life time?”
Bigger holds his hands out in a placating gesture, tipping his head. “Yes, technically, we have. But... I think this is going to be so cool! I think we figured out the logistics of it, and we made this little...” He gestures vaguely at the item in his hands, then shrugs. “I don’t know what to call it. I’ll need to come up with a name later. But the point is that I want you guys to adventure into it.”
“What?” Catra shrieks, her voice cracking. The fur over her arms stands on end as she stares at Bow, an astonished look coming over her feline features. “You want us to go?”
“Look, I know it sounds bad, but-”
“Absolutely not!” she protests, stamping her foot down on the floor. A frustration creeps over her as she steps towards Bow, jabbing her finger in his direction. “Didn’t we just go through a whole universe-ending ordeal with Horde Prime? What do you think this will do to us?”
“Okay, I know it doesn’t sound very promising,” Bow admits, his eyes tense with understanding, “but just trust me. I think this would be really important to future negotiations.”
“Let me guess,” Catra mutters, rolling her eyes, “you want us to try it out?”
All of a sudden, Bow drops to his knees, hands glued together as if praying to the girls. “Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?” he pleads, a pout on his lips. “We have backups ready for you! If anything goes wrong, I’ll teach you what to do. We’ll still be in contact, so you can easily tell us if something’s up and we’ll bring you back.”
Catra merely scoffs as if the entire idea is wasteful of her time. She stares at Adora, her blue and yellow eyes peering at her as if asking if she can even believe all this. “Adora, what do you say? Should we do it?”
Adora will admit, there’s a bubble of excitement in her chest billowing up. As much as she loves that things are more relaxed now, she’s getting bored; she’s going after new adventures but has found none. This entire plan may be stupid, but she’s willing to do it anyway.
Catra, watching her features shift from curiosity to excitement, groans. “Of course. I knew you’d want to do something stupid like this.”
“Hey!” Adora protests, leaning towards her. “You don’t have to come if you don’t want to. I want to go, though.” She steps closer to Catra, a mischievous smile stretching across her mouth. “I won’t force you to do anything, but I’m just saying... If you come with me, we get to have some more time together.” She raises her eyebrow. “You know, like old times. Do some trouble around the place.”
Adora knows it isn’t fair of her to use their past together to convince Catra to come with her, but she really wants to do this with her. It’ll be their first adventure together in forever.
After a moment’s of hesitation, Catra sighs. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”
~
About an hour later, the girls stand in the palace grounds courtyard. Darkness spills over the sky, fighting a battle with the golden light seeping from the palace.
Bow hands Adora the metal item, gesturing to the several buttons as he instructs, “Press this one when I tell you to. Then press this one when you get there. I don’t know where it will take you exactly, but if my math is right, it’ll be a little bit far from here. Don’t worry.”
Adora found that ironic, since Bow looks plenty worried.
He swallows, eyes shaking, then keeps going. “Okay, and if you need help or need to contact us, just press this.” He gestures to a small red button on the side of the box. “We should be able to communicate at any point. And this thing can last hours, so don’t worry too much.”
Catra shivers next to Adora, a pout over her lips. “I still don’t like this plan.”
“You could easily step out of it,” Adora points out, nudging her. She grins. “But you love me, so that’s stopping you, isn’t it?”
“Shut up,” Catra grumbles.
Bow clears his throat. “If you guys are done...”
The blonde girl throws her arm around Catra, feeling the other girl’s warmth under her skin. Catra pretends to struggle but Adora doesn’t miss the way she leans into her. A glowing smile blooms against her lips.
“Okay, now, press that button on my count,” Bow informs, nodding towards the metal box in Adora’s hands.
Her stomach flutters with nervousness, beating and battering against her insides. It seems that only moments ago she was prepared for this, but now, with her friends staring at her, with this cool metal in her hands, she feels only a dread.
But she pushes through that. She bites her bottom lip and nods. Slipping her fingers through Catra’s again, she tips her head at Bow. “Let’s do it.”
Bow counts down from three, his voice trembling. Catra’s muscles tense under Adora’s fingers, but she keeps holding on.
“Three,” he mutters, “two.... one!”
Adora presses the large blue button on the box. The world disintegrates around her.
If Adora could explain the experience, all she could say is that it’s crazy. That’s it. Because she can’t really remember anything except for the whirlwind of chaos, the vibrant purple of the hole in the universe, the speed of being thrown across dimensions.
It feels as though it’s been hours and microseconds at the same time; time doesn’t exist but surrounds her. Her body stretches out and shrinks in, her very cells tingling with pain.
And then, all of a sudden, it stops. Catra crashes into her, and together they slam against something hard. Adora’s body bursts with pain with the sudden contact. Nausea roils in her stomach and she feels as though she’s still hurtling through the abyss.
The faint murmurs of voices drift into her ears, but she can barely understand them. Pain washes over her in waves and she only lets them crash against her. She’s too exhausted to move.
Catra shuffles next to her, groaning. A faint breeze brushes past Adora, its calmness significantly more relaxing than the pain still racking her body.
It takes her a few moments before the world stops spinning out of her control. Another groan spills from her and she rubs her head. She absorbs the cool breeze in the hopes that it will calm her.
Her eyelids flutter, dapples of light spilling into her eyes. She’s momentarily blinded by the golden rays, but after pawing at her eyes, they adjust to the brightness. Green trees surround her, practically glowing in the light. Grass scratches underneath her palms.
“Where are we?” Catra mutters next to her, slowly sitting up.
“I don’t know...” Adora admits. Her brain feels fuzzy, static, confused. She feels as though she’s still trapped in-between dimensions.
Voices drift through her ears again, and she turns. A scream almost escapes from somewhere deep within her chest when she realizes the amount of beings standing by, watching her and Catra.
Catra gasps and scrambles next to her, her breathing ragged. The beings stare at the two girls in their own shock as well.
“Is that a... cat girl?” a blond boy asks, his voice dripping with amusement.
Another person steps forward, their dark hair sweeping over their eyes. They’re clouded over with something dark, something deep. They seem as though they’ve seen a lot of things.
“It’s coming,” he says. “The universes are colliding.”
