I've been seeing this thing on tiktok where people give the TWST characters English voice Headcannons. I'm curious if you have any?

HELLO. Yes, thank you for this question. I have been waiting for someone to ask me this for the longest time. So a while back I made a list of playlists for the twst characters (never finished it) and at the same time I was making another list of who I would pick if I could assign voice actors to the cast. It's not done, I never finished it so there are a few missing, but here's what I have. There are links to examples for each one.

HEARTSLABYUL

Grim as Meowth from the Pokemon anime. Talking cat and another talking cat.

Hear me out, I know a lot of people disagree but I would personally like to see Ace Trappola voiced by Griffin Burns, the same guy that voices Childe in Genshin Impact. Yeah, Childe, another annoying guy just like Ace. Mainly because he's kinda funny and makes the most cursed/random content.

I struggled a bit on this one but I got a lot of voices from this anime. The dub is funny, plus this guy has some amusing lines that sounds like what Deuce Spade might say. Especially the scene with his mom. So I picked Reki Kyan from Sk8 the Infinity, voiced by Matt Shipman.

I also really struggled with this one too. I didn't find a voice with a valley accent, lol. But I did find this voice with sass and energy, so I just gave up and put down this one. Just imagine the sass and energy, all the time, for Cater Diamond. Double Trouble voiced by Jacob Tobia, from She-Ra.

Trey Clover - ???

This one is a given, everyone practically says the same. But I can only imagine Riddle Rosehearts with a voice like Ciel Phantomhive from Black Butler, voiced by Brina Palencia. It's actually surprisingly hard to find good Ciel clips.

SAVANACLAW

Obviously this voice had to be kinda deep. It has to sound kinda cold too, since this character is standoffish and mean in the beginning. I think I did find a very fitting voice though. I believe Jack Howl should have the same voice as Jotaro from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, voiced by Matthew Mercer.

Ruggie's was a little difficult too. It couldn't be deep, it had to have this specific sound to it, something a little more high-pitched. Something fitting for the little guy. So I resorted to putting down Ruggie Bucchi as Meliodas from Seven Deadly Sins, voiced by Bryce Papenbrook.

I feel like I had to find a really good voice for this dorm leader, so I went through lots of options and even changed it multiple times. It had to sound cool and kinda on the deeper side. So in the end, I chose Sniper Mask from High Rise Invasion, who's voiced by Jonah Scott, for Leona Kingscholar.

OCTAVINELLE

This dorm gave me the most trouble by far. I hated it. I spent so much time trying to find a good voice for them, and I'm not completely content. Yet, here it is. For Floyd Leech, it took a lot of back and forth, but I decided on Atsushi Murasakibara from Kuroko No Basuke, voiced by Robbie Daymond. Another difficult one to find a clip for, and he's only in the first two minutes.

Why are these clips so hard to find? Despise it. No, I did not want to go with the generic answer of Sebastian from Black Butler for Jade Leech. Instead, I chose Greed/Ling Yao from Fullmetal Alchemist, voiced by Troy Baker. Just imagine that voice but in a more polite and butler-like manner.

Azul Ashengrotto - ???

SCARABIA

This voice is almost perfect for this character, you cannot convince me otherwise. I've played this game and liked this voice actor for a long time. The song he sings in one chapter? Amazing. I think the cheerfulness and tone are wonderful for the character Pit from Kid Icarus Uprising, voiced by Antony Del Rio. He reminds me a lot of Kalim Al-Asim.

For Jamil Viper I considered a few options. His voice couldn't be too high pitched or low pitched, it had to be more aloof sounding. This was one of those characters I gave a voice to and it kept it for the longest time before ultimately changed my mind. Mostly because I happened to find a voice for another character by the same voice actor, and I didn't want to have the same actor twice. Anyways, the character is kinda mean too, just like how Jamil low-key is sometimes. The lines in the first part of the video sound like stuff Jamil would say if he snapped at Kalim. So, here's my take. Felix Hugo Fraldarius from Fire Emblem Three Houses, voiced by Lucien Dodge.

POMEFIORE

For sure, Epel Felmier has to have a soft and nice-to-listen-to voice. When he gets angry and starts yelling is a different story, the voice actor will need to be able to play that part well with the volume and accent and all. I didn't have a definite character in mind, but I had a voice actor that I thought was fitting. Khoi Dao, who voices characters like Albedo from Genshin Impact, Tetsuya Kuroko from Kuroko no Basuke, and Murata from Demon Slayer. Again, clips are hard to find for him that aren't Albedo, but there's an okayish one I found.

Frenchman. Fancy man. With the voice that I just think is amusing to listen to. He has to have this positive energy but still sound frivolous, because he's one of the most upbeat characters out of the entire cast. It's incredibly hard to find a good voice actor with a French accent, so I tried to just pretend as if there was no accent just for now. And I think I found a worthy candidate for Rook Hunt. Lorenz Hellman Gloucester from Fire Emblem Three Houses, voiced by Benjamin Diskin. Just imagine adding the accent? I think it could be great.

Oh boy, another character that has to have a good voice. Like, if he has anything less, I don't know if the character would work. Like Jamil, I considered different roles for him. It has to sound refined and elegant, even a little harsh. So I'd like to see Vil Schoenheit as Cherry Blossom from Sk8 the Infinity, voiced by Daman Mills. I think even some of the lines said are fitting for Vil's character.

IGNIHYDE

I'm actually pretty confident and proud of my decisions for this dorm. Then again, they're my favorite so maybe I'm biased. Anyways, obviously Ortho Shroud has to have a higher pitched voice because he's younger, and he's one of the few friendly and positive characters. But I didn't want the voice to be annoying or too high pitched. Taking that into consideration, I went with Venti from Genshin Impact, voiced by Erika Harlacher.

I got this. Both have sharp teeth? Both are skinny and wretched? Both are kinda weird? Both are protective of their younger siblings? They have the same vibes. They even both strongly believe that they're "ugly." I struggled to find a voice for Idia Shroud, but when I heard this English voice, I knew it was the most fitting voice I can find. The lines in the clip? Perfect. You can just picture it as Idia talking about his little brother Ortho. Which is why I chose Gyuutaro from Demon Slayer, voiced by Brandon McInnis.

DIASOMNIA

One of the first voices I put down, I got his right before I put down Deuce's. Yup. If you listen to the clip from Deuce's part, there's a character there that I think would make a perfect Silver. Can't remember? Here's some clips of the character I'm talking about. Langa Hasegawa from Sk8 the Infinity, voiced by Howard Wang.

I got this recommendation from a friend, and I can't get over how spot on it is. Like, it's literally perfect, it tops all others I've listed. The volume, the energy, the way it sounds like they carried themselves, it was all too good. When I watched it for the first time, my jaw dropped. Please, listen to this with your eyes closed and picture Sebek Zigvolt. As the Dullahan from Konosuba, voiced by Patrick Seiz.

Another character I struggled with. I didn't even know where to start with him, but low and behold, by scrolling I found a decent fit for the bat dad. He kinda looks him too, actually. Lilia Vanrouge's voice is kinda difficult, since it's surprisingly deep in the official Japanese version but I feel that it could work well even if it isn't deep. Anyways, here it is. Vanitas from Jun Mochizuki, voiced by Zeno Robinson.

Malleus Draconia's voice is probably of the highest importance, since he is the game's golden poster boy. It's probably why I had such a hard time with his, it was probably one of the last ones I did. But hear me out, what if his voice was the same as an antagonist many may recognize. I think the voice is mysterious and intimidating, it's also elegant in a way too and deep but not ridiculously deep. Which is why I thought of Muzan from Demon Slayer, voiced by Greg Chun.

STAFF

Yeah, I did the staff too. Here we go. Everyone gives Sebastian Michaelis to Jade, but I think it might be more fitting for Headmaster Crowley, especially if the voice sounds a little more like Kyoya Otori from Ouran High School Host Club. Both Sebastian and Kyoka are voiced by the same person, J. Michael Tatum. Just a little more energy and a bit of a British accent on Kyoya's voice, can probably make an excellent voice for Crowley.

Okay, I'm gonna say the name, but hear me out. Hisoka from Hunter X Hunter, voiced by Keith Silverstein. WAIT. Hold on. Listen. Hear me out first. I know what you're thinking. But it's Keith Silverstein, and he has a wonderful voice. Just imagine that clip, rewatch it, picture it as Divus Crewel.

I had two options for Ashton Vargas, but ultimately the other option had little lines and this one is funnier. Plus I think they're voiced by the same guy. Anyways, like I said, this option is funnier so that's pretty much why I chose it. Director Ton from Aggretsuko, voiced by Josh Petersdorf.

There are not a lot of serious sounding voice actors that portray older men, so another hard one to find a voice for. But I managed, and I don't think I did too bad considering there wasn't too many options. Here's what I got. For Mozus Trein, Kuzen Yoshimura from Tokyo Ghoul, voiced by Sean Hennigan.

This guy needs a New Orleans accent, no matter what. That's all I ask. But, can you imagine if Sam had the same voice as Marshall Lee from Adventure Time, voiced by the Donald Glover? That would be amazing to see. It would actually be way more than just amazing.

I’m glad Saban Moon pilot was found since it is a big piece of Sailor Moon Lore.

Major Major Props to Ray Mona aka Raven Simone who should be getting a Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting because she put in the work to find this which the fandom been looking for like 30 plus years ( Lets start campaigning that ok lol).  Please show her some love by watching both parts of  her doc along with the official Pilot.

What the world was that?? 

Lord That felt so early 90′s that you put She-Ra/ Facts of Life/ Power Rangers together and that’s what you got which I think was the aim. Which is funny since Saban did Power Rangers which is from Super Sentai and Naoko was influenced by Super Sentai.. 

Like did the girls have civilian names?  They only go by Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Mars.

Like Sailor Moon is the only girl with a civilian name which is Victoria? I think it’s been said years ago the girls did but I can’t remember.  

The diversity is a plus if you want to call it since it was still just one black girl in the group even if you also have a girl with an disability.

I do like the fact  they did keep the fact they would princesses tho. Even tho that wasn’t mentioned no where near the anime and was only mentioned in the manga...... mmm

So no destruction of the Moon Kingdom and SliMli.  Way to take out one of the major plot points as the reason why we have Sailor Moon.. 

Beryl looks like a Disney Villain which was probably the aim with really no clear m.o.

Oh yeah they use two of the OG Youma Designs from the Anime from the seven great Youma Arc ( aka Rainbow Crystal Arc)

Reccomendations for cartoons to watch include: Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Regular Show, the later seasons of MLP Friendship is Magic (for the sake of completing it and being able to properly evaluate the show), Steven Universe, DuckTales 2017, OK KO, Big City Greens, Star vs the Forces of Evil, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Kim Possible, Hilda, Helluva Boss, Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated, She Ra 2018, and the Ben 10 franchise.

I actually still have another ask that is mostly this same list but I think Hilda and Helluva Boss are new. Mostly responding because something I find interesting about myself given how ruthless I can be with TOH is that, well...

I probably will never truly be able to be some big reviewer because when I start disliking something, I drop it. That's actually the big reason I'm responding is because there is NO WAY I am watching the like 4+ seasons of MLP:FiM that I didn't watch because I just can't engage with stuff I dislike. I find no joy in it and while I can rant for a couple episodes, it just loses my interest.

I never seek things out because I think I'll dislike them. I just don't think life is enjoyable that way. It's why I have no plans to return to Helluva Boss. I absolutely believe people would potentially send me asks about it with how polarizing it is but I got to the episode when Moxie and Blitzo are interrogated, went "Ah, I see, the two characters I hate the most and don't even find funny (Stolas and Blitzo) are the actual main characters and the pilot was potentially kind of a lie for what the real focus of the show is. I'm out." And I haven't watched an episode since. My brain struggles to click with media after all so why would I bother with media I actively know I dislike already?

I'll comment on a couple others that I have at least had experience with on the list in a minute but since Amphibia, I've watched the first season of Craig of the Creek and think that show is just AMAZING. There's at least one episode I keep wanting to do a blog on just because it exemplifies how much the show understands the wonder of fantasy and childhood without actually being fantastical. I've also seen S1 of SpyxFamily and some of S2 but right now the only streaming service I have consistent access to is Hulu (the Disney+ I was borrowing cancelled theirs to swap to Hulu) and they only have S1 dubbed of SpyxFamily.

I'm hoping to sometime soon actually watch Over the Garden Wall finally and just have been kind of a mess as of late as for why I haven't yet. I've heard only good things, and shockingly few spoilers, and it's about time I gave it a proper shot.

ANYWAYS:

Steven Universe: Watched the first episode and only really liked Greg so just didn't bother watching more. Steven was fine but I actively hated all three of the gems because of how brain dead they were in both segments of the episode. As far as pilots go, I think SU might genuinely have one of the worst I've ever seen for convincing you to like a main cast.

Gravity Falls: I rewatched the first episode recently and went "This is oooookay." Something about Dipper's VA just bothers me. Not like they're doing a bad job but that it falls into an uncanny valley my brain doesn't love. I really wish I could better explain why that show refuses to properly click for me.

Regular Show: I forget why but I've seen a few episodes. It's not bad but I don't think it's really for me. I find Rigby and Mordecai annoying more than anything else. Not awful but I think without it feeling like they're actually meant to be learning something, they fall into the trap Randy and Howard from Randy Cunningham fell into eventually for me where I was like "Okay, assholes can be fun for a while but if that's all you're ever going to be, I don't care."

Adventure Time: I have seen as many episodes where Fiona and Cake show up in that show than I have Finn and Jake. XD I have genuinely liked what I've seen and just for some reason never sought it out. Maybe someday.

Star Vs: I need to give S2 a chance but MAN when I got told they break up Marco and Jackie for NO REASON I lost a lot of interest in the show. I like Marco more than Star, and I've only seen S1, and thought Marco and Jackie's relationship was genuinely really nice and kind of unique. Also knowing it's most people's cartoon punching bag doesn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm for it.

Kim Possible: I remember rewatching the pilot a couple years ago and being shocked by how much I didn't care for Kim. I think the fact that Bonnie is the only one who gives her shit but she's actually just genuinely amazing at everything and liked by most make her just not compelling to me which is a shame because I have REALLY fond memories of the show. I'd probably commit to a rewatch of Danny Phantom first though since it has been just as long since I watched that.

(Weird fact: I was looking at Hulu's unfortunately limited amount of cartoons and saw they had Kick Buttowski of all things which is WILD to me.)

She-Ra: I've seen literally one episode, thought it was good, and definitely is one of the ones I keep telling myself to watch because everything about it seems like it'd be up my alley. These are also my thoughts on Voltron though with how much... less divisive that last season of Voltron is, it's definitely below watching Princesses of Power.

Ben 10: Loved the original series as a kid, tried the first two spin offs that came out and didn't really jive with either but I thought Julie, the tennis girl Ben gets with, was super cute. I know a friend who would LOVE to see me get into Ben 10 and do some reviews of it.

And just as an anime shout out, a part of me is still tempted to give Little Witch Academia another try. Not only is it just an obvious next show for me to watch but it's one I REALLY want to like because I like a lot about it... I just absolutely despise Akko from the like four episodes I watched a good number of years ago now. I thought almost all of the supporting characters were great though.

Just... Consider this my weird, rambly blog late at night about cartoons and the fact that I do wish I engaged with media better. One of the worst elements of it is that I don't engage well with scripted content well if my brain isn't already in an alright place. Like I don't go to television for distraction and cheering me up. I vastly prefer streams for that as I can actually turn my brain off during those normally. It's something I've talked about before and something I'd like to change. Heck, I even at one point had a therapy goal to watch something at least once a week since that'd still be easier than streaming or writing. Whoops. *sigh*

I do also appreciate the recommendations! The reminders are good sometimes since I don't feel like I actually stay in the loop all that well. And since I kind of assume this is the same person who sent a list before, I decided I felt like actually responding, especially because the MLP pitch is an interesting one but man... That's a LOT of Starlight Glimmer I'd have to put up with when just like six episodes of her as a good guy made me want to light both her and Twilight on fire to put them out of their, and mine, misery. That's without me getting into the fact that I just think the characters in general got worse by then, almost like series shouldn't last for that long because finding new angles on characters becomes REALLY HARD (says the dumbass with a series of his own that honestly is longer than he should reasonably plan a story for.)

Again, late night rambling while my brain deals with suddenly snapping out of a hyper focus on a game for three days and doesn't deal with that well. *sigh* Have a good night everyone, take care of yourself and see you next tale.

Season 1

Have stormy take the identity of princess varanda of Callisto as a nod to the cartoon instead of Beatrix which was easy to guess

make them college age (in multiple different dubs alfea is a college)

Have the Brandon/sky switch but have it effect Brandon more because sky is closer to his father then he is because he can't be himself and have stella be in on it.

Have the love triangle be between aisha sky and bloom. Where Aisha and sky are in a arranged marriage they love each other in a platonic way but there is no love loss between them.

Split Aisha into two people aisha and layla twins/Irish twins with one having the standard mahogany brown/cinnamon brown hair and the other having the reddish brown pink highlight hair one being the fairy of oceans and tides and the other being the fairy of fluids

Have the switch be between aisha and layla who are swapping to see how each other life’s are

Give the parent plotlines that gave to Stella back to aisha (Stella’s plot with her mom is very close to Aisha’s in the cartoon at least to me.)

Introduce diaspro you know the girl who is blonde mean and in a love triangle with sky and bloom. fate!stella is practically diaspro

Do away with fate's magic system because winx club already had their own with more categories

Make Aisha a teacher assistant/student teacher instead of Farah suck up (My reasoning on this is that yes she is still the same age as the other girls namely stella but she created her own subcategory of how to use magic. She is really advanced and using advanced spell and skills to the point where some adult trouble with. I also feel like its another way for her parents to keep control over her.)

Make Aisha a specialist in a act of rebellion

Make tecna a specialist who is a gamer girl/hacker

Have diaspro and bloom be long lost sisters

Have stella and diaspro be sisters

stella, aisha and diaspro where roommate the previous year since both stella and Aisha were 17 when they debuted and have the be ra’s

instead of stella accidentally blinding her former roommate she preformed a convergence spell that was above her skill level and blinded her roommate or herself along with blewing up the dorm (which would come full circle in the way that her and her former roommate was out of balance, but when she does it with the girls it goes over smoothly. "When your hand is holding mine" they transform thanks to the power of friendship love and a Successful convergence spell and they gain transformation magic)

have stella blind herself on accident because of the bad way she was taught magic.

Have stella and Aisha be from rival kingdoms

make queen luna into countess cassandra

I like the idea of every time stella uses her power it bleaches her hair with the raw power of sun she is able to harness because the uv waves until it slowly becomes a pale blonde 

Have Aisha cling to every authority figure to fill the void that was left by her parents being so closed off towards her

Have Aisha be borderline clingy or even a little jealous towards her friends because she doesn’t understand how friendship works. Not understanding how boundaries works because her parents were not hands on parents. And just generally not understanding her emotions how to proceed them and how to express them for that reason too.

Have Aisha have a different view on love and how you should love someone and be loved by someone because of her parental trauma.

Show Aisha cracking under the pressure and expectation to be the perfect princess for her realm. Instead of the toilet incident then randomly being bad at her magic that went no where.

Instead of bloom setting the fire in her parents house out of anger have it be in her sleep have it be a throwback to the show when she was transforming in her sleep

Have mike and vanessa know about her powers and have her practice her powers safely with the help of her firefighter father

Have Vanessa be a Italian immigrant

Instead of Rosalind being trapped down there it would be Argulus a former classmate of farah’s who went to shadow haunt and got corrupted

Instead of rosalind being trapped have it be icy in alfea and Darcy in cloud tower with beatrix stormy in disguise trying to break them out

Instead of rosalind being trapped have it be the last ancestral witch

Fully comment to mixing musa with darcy

Utilize the dragon flame water star and starlight having designated host

Have daphne successfully escaped and go into hiding with bloom on earth

Say that the reason why fairies don’t transform anymore is because they wings keep getting plucked off as a throw back to the trix and galatea subsequently leaving them powerless so they evolved from it and it happened so long ago that nobody ever taught the new generation how to transform and with each generation they lost that part of them and bury it deep and deep inside of them.

Season 2

Introduce Brandon as stella's personal guard one of the solarian royal guard place there by queen luna due to Stella’s antics last season.

Introduce Brandon as relative of silva like nephew or giving Stella’s divorce parents plotlines to him saying that he grew up with both parents but after the divorce they feel out of touch because his mom took him home to her realm. Double point if he used to be friends with sky then moved to solaria as a child.

Introduce flora as the botany/earth and tecna as the air teacher

Introduce the wizards to teach a red fountain and introduce nabu that way since it was a school for wizards in s1 of the cartoon

What I like about them

His bravery and determination! This boy has endless perseverance and six hundred yen to his name and he will make the most of both of them. An Egyptian God couldn't kill him in a way that mattered, and people really think they're going to stop him when he puts his mind to something? Please. He's also snarky and funny as hell (in the manga / English dub of the anime, at least). Love this boy.

What I dislike about them

In the early parts of the manga he was a perv toward women because haha, perversion is so funny, right? 🙃 No, it's not. Rest in peace, Takahashi, but I hate how much you included male characters being pervs in the early chapters of the manga. (Jounouchi was far from the only victim of this.)

Favourite moment

Either when he stayed in the Black Crown to rescue Yuugi during the fire, or the pier duel when he broke through the Millennium Rod's control to save Yuugi from drowning. 😭 My heart will never recover fr.

Least favourite moment

Again, the moments in the early part of the manga when he was a perv toward the female characters . . . so fucking gross.

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more

Honestly I feel like not enough attention is paid to the fact that the home Jounouchi comes from is not only broken, but that he's scraping by by the skin of his teeth working part-time jobs (which he really shouldn't even be doing as a high school student, but does it anyway to support himself and his piece of shit dad). Like jokes are made in the manga about how Jounouchi will jump at the chance to make some money, or how he'll scarf down any food he can get his hands on, but like, yeah! He's dirt poor! His dad is a worthless scumbag who is abusive and neglectful and doesn't work! He has food insecurity because again, he's broke as hell. And yet he never makes this anyone else's problem, he doesn't resent his sister at all for getting to leave with their mom (and instead just loves her endlessly) . . . he's a great kid and doesn't get enough appreciation for the shit hand he was dealt in life and how he just bares his teeth in a grin and deals with it anyway. Kaiba could fucking never.

An interesting AU for this character

I like my AU where he still survived Ra's attack in Battle City, but did so at the cost of losing his memory (which leads to Shizuka taking him back to Hanafuda City with her to live with their mom after the tournament is over). And of course A Candle in the Dark is my magnum opus, and also counts since it's a canon divergence.

A crossover

I still love my Legend of Zelda crossover, which is less a crossover and more of a blend of the Hylian cycle surviving into modern times . . . even though it's in no way canon, Jounouchi having the Spirit of the Hero is canon in my heart.

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)

Jounouchi/Yuugi, of course. I maintain this ship would be so, so much more popular if people read the manga / the anime was actually faithful to the manga.

None, tbh, although I do really like his dynamic with Anzu . . . if Yuugi didn't exist then I would probably ship Jounouchi with her. But since Yuugi exists, lol, nope.

Jounouchi & Anzu, since Yuugi exists. Their relationship development is just so good. They literally start at the very bottom of "only tolerate each other for Yuugi's sake," but then by the time Battle City rolls around they're hanging out without Yuugi and Anzu is enthusiastically cheering him on. (Not to mention how she told off Kaiba for his sake? Baller.) Their relationship is sooooo good.

And of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Shizuka! The little sister ever. The one who inspires Jounouchi to keep fighting, for her sake if nothing else. The one who wanted to give him courage right back! It's really unfortunate that Takahashi didn't do more with Shizuka—she deserved so much better, she deserved to show that she has the same fire her brother does!—but that's okay. I can fill in the gaps myself. <3

Jounouchi/Kaiba and Jounouchi/Mai, and to a slightly lesser extent Jounouchi/Atem because it really doesn't make sense with Yuugi there / I can't do that to Yuugi. (It doesn't make sense because canonically Jounouchi always picks Yuugi over Atem, and I can't do that to Yuugi because Yuugi already feels inferior to Atem; having his best friend pick Atem over him would be just cruel.)

An assortment of headcanons! 

He's allergic to cats! He has a Kuriboh keychain on his keyring that Yuugi gave him. (He gave a Baby Dragon keychain to Yuugi in return.) He has a Sonic the Hedgehog cell phone charm while Shizuka has a Tails one. He associates miso soup with being sick because it's what his mom used to make for him when he was little. His favorite fruit is satsuma oranges, because when his parents were fighting before his mom left, he'd put orange slices in his mouth and smile around them, which would make Shizuka laugh / distract her from the fighting. He's good at math. His favorite NES game is Battletoads, though he's never beaten it. He's a decent cook, because he had to learn or he wouldn't eat after his mom left. He doesn't ever drink alcohol because of the alcohol-related trauma that comes with having an abusive alcoholic as a father. (And similarly, any partners drinking alcohol would be a massive turn-off.) He's bisexual. He likes games of chance, but never gambles for money because the reality that he could lose that money gives him (metaphorical) hives. He learned how to hotwire a car when he was thirteen, and knows how to drive even though he never gets his driver's license. He grows up to be a radio DJ with a talk show all his own after high school. He also does Let's Plays and game commentary. He doesn't have a co-host for his radio show because he talks so much he honestly doesn't need one. (He's got the gift of gab.) He's actually pretty good at basketball. His favorite band is Siam Shade.

1: Cure Oasis from Pretty Cure - while her magical girl form (I think that’s what that is?) has green hilights in her hair, she seems to for the mostpart be blond. I definitely see why you submitted her, but I feel like green hair isn’t the word I’d exactly use for her.

2: Morro from Ninjago - He has a single green hilight in his hair, and while he’s a ghost seems to have green VFX around him. I don’t think that’s quite enough to cut it as a green hair character. Thanks for trying though, you seemed to want him in.

3: Lala, also from Pretty Cure - I think her hair definitely falls more into the range of blue hair as opposed to green 4: Snaa from magia record - Putting her in the “too blue category” as well, though I think this is one I could easily change my mind on. Her image search results are full of that one plushie with super blue hair, so that may be (literally) coloring my perception a little bit

5: Bijou from Strawberry Seafoam - once again, too blue, though I’m also open to change on this one since her hair is definitely more turqouise, though just based on an image search, she seems to lean more blue. 6: Peridot from Steven Universe - I legitimately have no clue if I should or shouldn’t include her. Steven Universe has infamously had characters change small parts of their design between shots, and peridot as a result has varrying hair color between yellow and green, so I’m unsure if I should include her or not. Currently I’m leaning no but I may hold a poll to see what people think on whether she should be included or not. And finally, a character I have dubbed not green haired, but had enough pronouns I have decided to include them anyways: Double Trouble from She-Ra. I love getting submissions from characters who canonically aren’t cis, I want to try to include as many of those as possible, so despite the fact that they’re definitely more blond, I think I can give them a pass. Plus I also didn’t hesitate on including Raine Whispers and they’re about as blue as double trouble is blond so I think I owe it to them. Any characters I have not listed here have been accepted

Little rant under the cut I'll end up deleting at later date.

I hate how the pokemon fandom now seems to have fights over the name Liko like I've seen precure fandom have over it and all the reasons on people saying "it's Riko" is like, god damn it people, she's not from Kanto therefore her name being japanese based isn't actually a common sense lol. It's not a disrespect or translation error is the freaking ANIMATION STUDIO USES IT.

Japanese language doesn't have la li lu le lo. That is correct. But that's why they use ra ri ru re ro for any foreign names. Names like Laura La Mer (example from Tropical-Rouge! Precure), Lilie, Gladio, Lusamine, Alan, Lei, you name it. Had this clip actually said a very clear Riko, I would go with it. But it does NOT say Riko. It says Liko. I've listened to it more times than necessary. She's confirmed paldean. Therefore her name is supposed to be foreign. Not japanese-origin. If she was Kantonese, I'd assume Riko too.

I don't know why I get so frustrated about this asfjghsfhghf. It's not like the studio itself wouldn't know how to write their character's name. Even Pokémon press site specifically states the names Liko and Roy are on the japanese version. Specifically. Meaning they could have different dub names.

I guess seeing people go and try to correct people using Liko with "it's Riko because this and that" is so fricking annoying because like... think. Think. Why do people use Liko? Because that's the official reveal. If every reliable translator is using it (and they are), then it is Liko.

And yes, in Maho Tsukai Precure Cure Magical is Liko, not Riko. She's not japanese either, she's a witch from magical world. There are sooooo many examples of names in japanese media that are meant to be la li lu le lo but are written with ra ri ru re ro due to them being closest. The name's pronounciation tends to be confirmed in merchandise. I guess for this debate to end there needs to be an article from magazine or merchandise of her that clearly shows Liko. Animedia and Spoon.2Di at least like to show the romanji form of their names in articles.

I'm also more and more convinced that Liko meaning a leaf bud in Hawaiian origin is not a coincidence with Sprigatito being her partner. It's a perfect match.

I know it's stupid to be so hung up on this. I don't even know why I'm hung up on this. Probably because there are so many smartasses who think they know better than the fricking announcer of the name. Like what lol. I trust the animation studio announcement hella lot more.

(Ok sure merchandise shows Gladio is Glazio and I know most of us prefer Gladio because of the name origin, but that still keeps the la instead of ra)

Gorgeous Irene

We're getting into the 1980s here at Mahou no Manga, which is perhaps one of the most important decades in the history of the magical girl genre. So before I start talking about the manga du jour, I first want to unpack what made the 80s so, dare I say, transformative.

The 1980s were a time of great change for the magical girl genre, and these changes were being felt across a variety of media. Starting with anime, Mahou Shoujo Lalabel finished airing in 1981. The anime was produced by Toei Animation, an animation and planning company that had also created nearly every other magical girl anime in existence at that time (the sole exception being 1971's Fushigi na Melmo, animated instead by Tezuka productions). Once Lalabel ended, Toei took an approximately decade long break from releasing new magical girl anime. 1982's Magical Princess Minky Momo (handled by Ashi Productions) would be only the second ever non-Toei magical girl anime. Following its' success, numerous other studios, mangaka, and other content creators of the time would put their own spin on the magical girl formula, which dramatically expanded the scope of what a magical girl can be and do. As such, this is the point where we start to see the consensus as to which titles are considered magical girl and which are not break down. Is Spoon Oba-san a magical girl anime? What about Vampire Princess Miyu? Who knows?

Key innovations of this time include the creation and popularization of the magical idol sub-genre thanks to 1983's Magical Angel Creamy Mami, Studio Pierrot crossing over their magical girls in 1987 (or 1986 depending on how you look at it) to create what is likely the first ever magical girl team in anime, and a small handful of male-oriented magical girl OVAs being released to the newly booming direct-to-video market. That last point is particularly interesting to me because prior to the eighties, magical girls designed for boys and men were a rarity. 1973's Cutie Honey was the first magical girl series intended for a male demographic in both anime and manga, but despite its' success, it was essentially a one-off. While male-aimed magical girls still weren't super common in the eighties, they were slowly growing in number. Similarly, two of these OVAs (Dream Hunter Rem and Genmu Senki Leda, both released in 1985) are early examples of magical girl warrior anime. While neither would be hugely influential on their own, they are a stepping stone on the path to magical warriors being the most common kind of magical girl.

As well, the late eighties saw both magical girl anime from the 60s get rebooted. Himitsu no Akko-chan was brought back as a live action TV special in 1987, and a TV anime series retelling the story of the original in 1988. Sally the Witch would get a direct sequel series in the form of a TV anime in 1989. These weren't the first magical girl reboots (There was a new Comet-san TV drama in the 70s that I think is technically the first), but they are emblematic of the nostalgia cycle starting to apply to magical girl anime, something we are still seeing to this day with works like Sailor Moon Eternal and Tokyo Mew Mew New.

The eighties are also when magical girls would globalize at an unprecedented rate. Existing Japanese magical girl shows were exported to numerous foreign markets during this time, mostly in Europe and South America, with foreign language dubs being created for these properties, including some of the first English dubbed magical girl anime. The first magical girl anime to receive an English dub was 1979's Hana no Ko Lunlun, a few episodes of which were edited together into a TV movie that aired in 1981 under the unhelpfully generic title of Angel.

Meanwhile, original English language magical girl cartoons were being created in greater numbers than before. American cartoons of the 80s are known for toy tie-in cartoons, and so doll lines like Jem, Rainbow Brite, and the original She-ra were adapted to screen. Notably, these 80s magical girl cartoons generally did not derive influence from existing magical girl anime. Rather they developed on their own, often repurposing existing fantasy and fairy tale tropes to be more female centric and magic intensive.

And then there's manga. During the 1980s, magical girl manga would undergo two major changes, both of which essentially comport with changes in contemporaneous magical girl anime. First of all, this decade saw an uptick in shounen and seinen magical girl manga. Like I said, Cutie Honey was the first shounen magical girl manga, but because it has a very high-profile anime (or, y'know, five, who's counting?), it was not covered on the blog. As such, every manga we've looked at prior to now has been shoujo. But starting today, Mahou no Manga will be covering manga geared towards boys and men as well.

Secondly, this is the point at which we start seeing magical girl manga making its' way into English speaking fan communities. A handful of 80s magical girl manga have been translated by manga scanlating groups and at least one got an official English release in its' own time.

Both of these changes come together in the topic of today's post: the first shounen manga to get its' own write-up on this blog, and the first manga I've covered that has been translated in its' entirety.

Gorgeous Irene is a manga by Hirohiko Araki about a gorgeous assassin named Irene Rapona. Usually taking on the appearance of a strange and airheaded sixteen year old girl, Irene has an arsenal of magical makeup that can transform her into a sadistic woman with hypnotic abilities and an invincible body. Those who contract her must become her friends, and in exchange for their friendship, she will protect them from harm. She does battle with powerful enemies, using her makeup as a deadly weapon. Not only that, but she is a master of disguise who can blend in anywhere, or stand out as she sees fit.

As a magical girl story, this one is... certainly interesting. Given that it is quite short, we don't get much of a read on Irene's character, and most of her life story and motivations remain cloaked in mystery. Where she got her makeup and what the full extent of its' abilities are are never made fully clear. As well, her story is often told from the perspective of her clients until the moment she leaps into battle. The character drawing style is... distinctive let's say. Proportions and poses are what I can only describe as stylishly awkward. As for Irene herself, I actually like her quite a bit. She has a tenacity and charm to her that really carry the story in my opinion.

I will say that if you want to read this one for yourself, definitely know your own limits. Content warning for animal cruelty, graphic bloody violence, and body horror. The female characters, including Irene herself, are very much sexualized, so if you're not comfortable with that, this might be one to skip. As well, if you're squeamish about bugs, the final chapter is probably going to get to you.

Gorgeous Irene's publication history is a bit of a mess. Many online resources will tell you it was published from December 23, 1980 to December 20, 1986 (which is how this ended up being the first eighties manga on my timeline) and it ran for five chapters. These five chapters were published in a single tankobon volume on February 10, 1987, and every subsequent reprint has included all five chapters. However, Gorgeous Irene isn't the only thing here. In actuality, it only makes up the last two chapters, with the other three being assorted one-shots by Hirohiko Araki.

These additional stories are interesting in the own right, Especially Mahounen B.T. and Busou Poker. The former would go on to have a six chapter run of its' own, and a sequel one-shot published in 2021. As of this writing, I've only read the original one-shot. Although I have seen the title translated as Magical Boy B.T., it is not a magical boy manga and is instead a detective story in which the main character occasionally does sleight-of-hand magic tricks. Not to mention a more accurate translation would be Wicked Boy B.T. and the official English title is Cool Shock B.T.. Busou Poker (Poker Under Arms) is a wild west poker drama of sorts, which is not my cup of tea but does still boast some historical significance as Araki's debut work, published on, you guessed it, December 23, 1980.

Hirohiko Araki is best known as the creator Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It would certainly be interesting to compare and contrast that manga with Gorgeous Irene, but alas I have not actually read or watched Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I was tempted to try some for this project, but given the sheer amount of Jojo content that has been created, I didn't think I would be able to get a sufficient understanding of the series in a timely fashion. Gorgeous Irene ran for two chapters in Weekly Shounen Jump, the first chapter published October 1, 1985, the second published December 20, 1986. Both chapters were published alongside the other short stories on February 10, 1987 with reprints on March 19, 2004, in October of 2007, and on December 16, 2012. Most recently, the manga received a digital rerelease on November 1, 2015. As far as I know, Gorgeous Irene has never been officially published in English. The good news is, Project Bite Me! Scanlations has released an English translation of all five chapters, making this arguably the most accessible manga I've covered on this blog, and its' tangential connection to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure makes it easily the most well-known manga I've covered. For once it wasn't a matter of trying to scrounge up enough information for a coherent write-up, but deciding what information was important enough to include vs. what to omit. Huge shout-out to Jojo's Bizarre Encyclopedia for having most of this information at-the-ready. If you want to know more about Gorgeous Irene, go check out their article on the subject.

While I certainly have my criticisms of this manga, it was an engaging read to say the least. I've never seen another magical girl story quite like it, and I think it makes for the perfect segue into a new era of manga in the genre.

Exandria Unlimited: A Critical Role Mini-Campaign!

Always wanted to watch Critical Role but didn’t have six billion hours to dedicate to keeping up with it? Looking for a self-contained, manageable show to try out? Now’s your chance! In the hiatus between campaigns, CR is releasing a new eight-episode mini-series set in the canon of the main campaigns. In brief, it takes place in a city called Emon 30 years after a devastating attack during the events of Campaign 1. If it’s anything like previous new campaigns/one-shots, it will be made as a jumping-on point for new viewers and won’t assume any familiarity with the rest of the series.

Who’s running the game?

For the first time in a canon game, a new Game Master will be running the show! Aabria Iyengar (top left) is an extremely experienced D&D player who’s starred in a bunch of the big actual-play shows out there (there’s a list here!), and is a GM for Saving Throw. If you’d like to see her in action with the main cast, she was on a couple episodes of Narrative Telephone and her contribution to the story was fantastic.

Who are the new cast members?

New to the cast (and in Aimee’s case, also new to D&D!) are Aimee Carrero (top center) and Robbie Daymond (bottom right). You probably know Aimee from her roles as She-Ra or as Elena of Avalor in the eponymous shows. Robbie also has no shortage of big credits, including Spider-Man in the Disney XD series and Tuxedo Mask in the Sailor Moon re-dub.

Who are the regular cast members?

Living the dream of forever-DMs everywhere by playing in his own game for once is Matt Mercer (bottom left), who you may know as McCree in Overwatch or Levi in Attack on Titan. Jumping in from the main campaigns are Ashley Johnson (top right), whose credits include Ellie from Last of Us and Patterson from Blindspot, and Liam O’Brien (bottom center), who played Illidan in WoW and Gaara in Naruto.

I know nothing about D&D and at this point I’m too scared to ask.

Not a problem! The important thing is the story being told, and a lot of the game can be picked up as you go. Basically: GM explains scene, players decide what to do, if it’s not a trivial action the GM has them roll a 20-sided die to see if it’s successful or not (20 is good, 1 is not). Player characters have different abilities that make some types of checks more likely to succeed than others. In combat, things would get too hectic just playing out a scene, so the game becomes turn-based with the initiative roll at the start deciding who gets to go first. If a player’s character drops to 0 HP, they’re unconscious and may die permanently if they don’t get help quickly. The game varies wildly from combat slug-fests to dice-free improvised drama/comedy. It’s a good time.

Okay, so how do I watch?

The very good news: the show is completely free to watch. You can see it air live on Thursdays at 7 PM Pacific Time (here’s a useful countdown clock for different timezones - at the time of this post it’s showing a countdown for a one-shot airing tonight) on Twitch or YouTube. After it airs, you can watch the VOD if you have a Twitch subscription (in case you’re not a big Twitch person, you get a free subscription via Amazon Prime), but it will be posted in its entirety to their YouTube channel, generally the following Monday. They also usually post an audio-only podcast version the following Thursday. The first episode airs this Thursday, June 24, at 7 PM Pacific, and episodes will air weekly from then on.

OKay this is another Daminette Idea but uh the only difference is that this is not romantic... at all. Just uhhh familial??? Is that correct?? but either way, yeah.. it’s family-centric.

Now I am not only obsessed with the uhh romantic and cute ship called Daminette but I am also in love with the idea of Damian being Marinette’s pseudo brother. Like it’s cute and Damian’s finally given the chance to like act more like his age and be a child for once so that’s a plus.

Oh and you can read that particular au right hereee and hereeee. These are like... different takes on that kind of au so yeah... but both are still equally great like you will not be disappointed I promise.

You see, I was like scrolling through Youtube and like I came across a Youtuber (well duh). And that particular Youtuber is like 20-23 years old?? I think??? and she like adopted a kid. Yes. I know she’s pretty young to become a mom but uhh I think it’s cute? and heartwarming? because like she gave a kid a chance to like become a part of a family.

Anyway (2x), that made me thinking. What if Marinette adopted Damian? like no she’s not like Bruce who’s now dubbed as a serial adopter. No, she just adopted Damian? like he’s the only one who she has had the pleasure of adopting. 

Oh by the way this Idea also like came to me at night and didn’t let me sleep just like my last AU hahahha XD (and I seriously have to stop doing this and focus on my fics more ughhh!)

(she’s roughly the same age as Bruce here and has already established herself as someone amazing in the Fashion world and is known world wide now and is super rich and you get the gist)

Now, since they crossed paths like they’re just staring at each other because they piqued Marinette’s interest cuz like why do they look like they just came out of a freaking warzone???? and Talia’s like formulating a plan. Like she thought what if she doesn’t drop Damian off to his father? and just like keeps him hidden from him because she knows Bruce will just get Damian wrap in on that vigilante and fighting stuff and she just wants Damian to be like a normal kid for once? (#TaliaKindaCares)

So like she goes to Marinette and like straight up says: “Would you like to take my son?” and points at Damian behind her.

Like Marinette’s confused because why did this person just walk right up to her for no apparent reason other than to like give her her son???? What???

So like she looks at Talia all confused and Talia explains (more like excuses) that she can’t take care of Damian (her son) anymore and is like putting him up for adoption and like she looks like a nice enough person to accept him (she somehow did an investigation about Marinette in a span of few seconds and confirmed that yes she has a clean record and is like nice because she does all this charity things and yadda yadda yadda... don’t ask me how). And like she also secretly says that Damian is like not needed anymore so she doesn’t want him (okay so now it’s back to #TaliaDoesNotCare)

And Marinette like hears this and is like fucking pissed because what do you mean you don’t want and/or need him???? What kind of parent/mother/woman/HUMAN DOES THAT????? YOU’RE SO FUCKING HEARTLESS!!!

Marinette fumes and like Talia somehow persuades her to like adopt Damian... well not really since Marinette felt empathy for the kid since his mother is just basically giving him away so she just accepted.

Now that leads to like Marinette being dragged by Talia (with Damian) to like a court or something (there’s a word for that place I just forgot it ughhh) and like making Marinette adopt Damian and Talia handing over her parental rights to her.

Then as like they finished all that shit, Marinette like turns to Talia and stares at her intently and says in all seriousness: “You decided to give him away. So now, no matter what you do, even if you you get down on your knees and cry and beg me to give him back to you, I will not return him. He is mine now. He is now my son and no matter what you say will never change that. Ever.” Talia flinches at her words and meanwhile, Damian will forever deny that Marinette declaring all of that made him feel warm inside and secretly loves his new mom now.

So yeah after that Talia business and she leaves, Marinette like asks for Damian’s hand? cuz like holding hands while walking? since he is technically her child now? and don’t parents hold their children’s hands while walking? plus she suspected that Damain rarely had any skinship with his so called “mother” so Marinette decides to like be the one who’ll supply him all that maternal love he needs and like Damian’s confused but like just complies and holds her hand or something.

(Okay I know that for some of you this is not that important but like, for me, this part is the beginning or like the start or the spark that raised up that flag where Damian’s like finally learning what love and what having a parental figure feels like... okay, ONWARDS!)

So yeah they go back to Marinette’s house, but in this case a penthouse cuz like she rich now like I said. But like she’s not actually the one who bought the house. Like her uncle was the one who gave it to her and she can’t refuse it anymore because like her uncle bought it under her name (any guess on who that uncle is??? and if you did get it, yes. I am going for that AU! And you can’t tell me otherwise!!!) so yeahh.

And like as soon as like they enter, Damian begins to ask stuff like where are his quarters? He wishes to rest and get settled now. And is there rules on which he should follow? certain boundaries that she have set for him?

And Marinette’s like confused because why the heck he asking about rules??? and who the fuck taught him to speak like a freaking old man???

But then since he looks absolutely serious she like sits him down and speaks in like a soft voice, “Look, I know that you’re an al Ghul. That you’re from the League of Assassins.” Damian kinda flinches at that. (Also Marinette is like The Great Guardian of The MIraculous and like before Master Fu handed his title over to her, he like explained how the League of Assassins and the Order of The Miraculous have been on a feud now (like most Maribat Fics yeah))

So like Marinette sighs, since she can see the nervous and scared look on Damian’s face and like continues, “So I want you to know that whatever they taught you there are not up to my morals.” Damian’s face goes even paler. “That means no killing. I don’t want you fighting anyone and getting hurt in the process.” And Damian like just looks at her and kind of wants to argue about the no killing thing (because Marinette is a very nice and worried Mama for her new child) but is also like confused because she doesn’t want him to be hurt??? What??

So like he just stares at nothing??? and is like trying to comprehend what she actually said. And Marinette smiles at him or something and yeah.

There’s also some instances where hmm Marinette would like bring him to work with her and like everybody coos at him with how adorable he is and how chubby his cheeks are and like he just scowls at them to back them off and Marinette laughs at him and says that they are correct, he is an adorable chubby-cheeked boy.

Anyway (4x this idea has a lot of ‘anyway/s’), umm hmm I think Damian would like keep on denying and telling himself that like he will not treat her as his mom and accept her or something unless like she proves herself or something.

So with that said, I have a plot for that... Damian is like uhh kidnapped?? LIke let’s just say that it’s not Gotham’s Rogues or something no it’s uh like someone lowkey but like also has the proper equipment to pull off this kind of stuff or something. Someone who like knows Marinette, how famous and rich of a designer she is and like beats him up because like he really needs the money and like since like his MOM is a rich ass designer he’ll be fine so yeah... plus he also adds like since he’s a lowkey criminal, it’s much harder to like go after the Wayne’s (y’all hear foreshadowing?? no?? okay..)

And then like all of a sudden BOOM! BAM! a red-spotted heroine comes crashing in and like, no not beats the hell out of the guy, she’s still nice, she like disarms him or something and ties him up and sends him to the police and yadda yadda yadda. And like after all that shit, she looks at Damain and is like “oh my god are you okay?” “holy shit of course you’re not okay, look at you!” “goddammit he’ll pay for hurting you” and most importantly... “WHY DID YOU NOT FIGHT BACK?! YOU’RE A FORMER HEIR OF A BUNCH OF MANIACS!!!”

(By the way because of that little stunt, the batfam are like now aware of her)

Like Ladybug’s frantic and is like worrying about him and Damian’s like... “Who are you?” “Don’t touch me” and another most importantly.. “I need to return to my MOM so please let me through”

And like ladybug just stares at him and like all teary eyed because he JUST CALLED HER MOM! HE’S NEVER ADDRESSED HER BY HER NAME NOR BY “MOM” BEFORE!!! And like she grabs him and yoyos them to their house and like Damian’s confused because how on earth did this person know where he lives??? And why is she still here??? she’s not allowed to be here!!!

And like in all Marinette fashion like she just freaking de-transforms and like fucking bone crushing hugs him and cries because she was SO WORRIED! AND HE WAS HURT BECAUSE OF HER! WHY THE HELL DID HE NOT FIGHT BACK???!!!

And like yeah Damian’s surprised to find out that his mom is like an actual superhero. No WONDER SHE DOESN’T LIKE KILLING!!! And like after he like snaps out of his shocked daze he like hugs her back and like also kind of cries (he’ll forever take it to his grave and tell her that it was just that her hair was poking his eyes when they were hugging). And like in a meek and sad and like broken voice he says: “You said no fighting.”

And Marinette like looks at him incredulously and is like yes she did tell him that but when you’re being held captive and is in the brink of death, OF COURSE YOU FIGHT BACK!!!

And like he answers: “I wasn’t in the brink of death.” and pouts or something. And says how he got it under control and Marinette retaliates like UNDER CONTROL??? YOU’RE BEATEN UP AND BLOODY RIGHT NOW AND IF SHE DIDN’T COME WHEN SHE DID, HE COULD’VE DIED FOR PETE’S SAKE!

Long story short, Marinette earned Damian’s respect that night (even though he won’t admit it but like he already has her in like a high regard) and like he pestered her to like let him be a superhero too cuz like since his Mom is a superhero, shouldn’t he be one as well?

And like Marinette straight out refuses because no it’s too dangerous and like Gotham is not her turf, there’s already lots of vigilantes here no need to add more and besides they’re like pretty territorial.

Which led to Damian being all pouty and sulky and like ignores Marinette.

It took Marinette three weeks straight to like finally make Damian to stop ignoring her--his own goddamn mother--and it included with lots of coddling and sorry’s and cooking him his favorite food... Let's just say that was also the part where Alfred the cat came into view.

I dunno how Marinette got him the cat but I guess it’s the same as cannon (I am not in the dc fandom okay??? I just know some stuff because of the ficsss) but like she gave it to him so that he'd stop sulking AND she's also the one who gave him the idea of naming the cat Alfred Pennyworth.

Because like she explains that Master Fu tells her stories about past Miraculous Holders and like there's this Peacock Miraculous Holder who's really awesome and his name is Alfred Pennyworth (ya damn right I'm drinking from that cup! I'm going for that au and no one can stop me!)

So like that's the start of Damian's love for animals and yeah.... that also led to like them getting Titus and then eventually Batcow (yes they're vegetarians now)

Okay this is getting out of hand so like I dunno what's next.

Oh! But uh Bruce finds out about Damian like after 3 years??? when Damian's like 13 now????? And like Talia told Bruce about it one day or something. And like Bruce asks Tim (everything's the same like Bruce still adopts Dick, Jason, and Tim except Damian like didn't go to him???) or someone to like investigate or check if their DNAs match or something (Don't ask me how) and like yup you're family yes the DNAs match and yadda yadda yadda.

And like Bruce decides to like go to their house (again, don't, it's detective stuff) and like sees a penthouse and is like this is where they live????? Pretty grand (oh my gosh that's such an old way of describing something hahahhaha) for someone like Talia.

So like he doorbells and like meets Marinette (you decide if it's Brucinette... I'm just here for that family goodness) and like she smirks smiles at him (Talia already like told her when they first met???? In the court????) and like lets him in and blah blah blah

And then like Bruce meets Damian and he's just teary eyed on how they look so alike and Talia didn't tell him he had a son like him???? And she only did after like 13 years????? Da fuq?????

And then like he hears Damian call Marinette his mom and is like what???? Isn't Talia his mother????? And is like confused af.

So like Marinette explains everything and like Damian's grouchy, and no it's not because his mom did not tell him about his father, his birth mother should've been the one to do that, it's because he doesn't want Bruce to like take him away from his mom.

Bruce explains that no he's not trying to take him away from his mother, he just wants to like get to know him and spend time with him.

So like Damian agrees (persuaded by yours truly, Marinette Dupain-Cheng) and is like met with the Wayne Manor and is like da fuq???? My house is already big but this is humongous!!!!

So like yeah he meets Bruce's adoptive sons and is like the same as when he met them in cannon but like without the killing (Marinette taught him about the Miraculous and trained him more so like yeah there's still fighting).

And like he REALLY doesn't like them because if he has new siblings then that means his mom won't pay attention to him anymore (Don't tell mom he said that, she'll never let him live it down) And like he introduces himself in all Damian glory: “I’m Damian Dupain-Cheng.” (kyaaaaa oh my gosh I just fangirled here oh my gosh hahahaha I don’t even know why XD)

So like yeah I dunno what's next and how it goes but uh yeah he meets all of the Wayne's and pseudo Wayne's and maybe just MAYBE he'll try to come to like them. For his mom's sake.

Oh and uh... remember the foreshadowing?? I like to uhh imagine that the batfam are like doing everything they can to like find out who that red-spotted heroine is (by the way her suit changed drastically over the years) and like dubbed her as “Ladybird” (like all maribat fics again hahaha). So like imagine when they find out that their favorite designer (yes I’m also drinking from that cup XD) and “Ladybird” is one and the same person AND has been UNDER THEIR NOSES THIS WHOLE TIME!!!

Date: Aug 20th, 2020 Time: ~ 2:18 h I really like how this one turned out!!! The 2020 Emma b-day edit has a lot of major panel redraws, but this is probably my favorite. I I really enjoy how I made the shadows work!! And the ear banfage looks pretty neat. Nice!!! Immagine

#2: Norman birthday edit 2021

Date: Mar 20th, 2021 Time: ~ 2:21 h Awww, soft Norman :') There was a bit to redraw, but I think everything turned out pretty neat!!! I believe everything works out fine. Though looking back at it, the part of the ID I added is definitely top small :')

#3: Manga dub: Yuugo gets knocked out

Date: Mar 27th, 2021 Time: ~ 5:05 h Here start the Manga Dub redraws to which I gave my everything ahah. This one turned out nice! I think the shoes turned out particularly good eheh. I like how Yuugo's clothing lineart- for the texture, I wanted to go for something heterogeneous, but I'm not fully confident in the final result. Gilda looks very rushed but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

#4: Manga dub: Yuugo makes his dramatic entrance

Date: Apr 5th, 2021 Time: ~ 4:02 h This is pretty cool!!!! The coat took ages to redraw, but sis it turned out perfect!!! I'm very proud of this.

#5: Manga dub: RayGildEmma hug!!!

Date: Apr 9th, 2021 Time: ~ 1:31 h Awww, a beautiful panel I was really happy to have the chance to redraw. Taking into account what there was to redraw, I'm actually surprised with how little this took! Ray's backpack was a pain to make, but I think it turned out fine. I'm very happy with Emma and Ray's heads!!

#6: Manga dub: Formalities

Date: Apr 12th, 2021 Time: ~ 5:31 h It is not always easy to give sense to Demizu's perspective, but I do my best!!! In this I am *so* happy with how Don and Ray turned out, they look neat! The background on the other hand... It took hours to make ahah. I'm not fully confident in the perspective, but I'm happy with the details I've added- I really did my best to make it look like athe other manga panels and I think it paid off!!!

#7: Manga dub: We may be weaklings, but we're still alive

Date: Apr 30th, 2021 Time: ~ 1:37 h This little Emma is so cute!!!!!! I think the redraw turned out pretty perfect. I'm really satisfied with how this one turned out, and it's such a cute little Emma!!!! She's so brave and optimistic, I love her. It's a shame this panel didn't make it to the episode :')

#8: Manga dub: Goldy Pond Gang

Date: May 7th, 2021 Time: ~ 8:44 h lmao This is probably the panel redraw I'm the most proud of ever :') Just think everyone turned out very nice!! The ceiling is not exactly perfect, but it still works somehow. I'm very happy with how Gillian's back turned out!! I don't really like the fading effect on the right, but 8h in I got pretty tired of working on this ahah

#9: Manga dub: This is Goldy Pond

Date: May 21st, 2021 Time: ~ 1:29 h I'm very glad for how the Manga dub has been challenging me to learn to redraw backgrounds, something I had quite literally never tried before. It can be a little frustrating, but it's so satisfying to see the final cleaned piece!! With this panel, I also learnt to use copy and paste, which is something I had never done before beyond texture

#10: Manga dub: Good morning doctor

Date: May 21st, 2021 Time: ~ 3:42 h This is another background that turned out pretty good!! That one Norman is one I knew I would have had to fully redraw sooner or lager- the background was a bonus ahah. I'm very happy with the final result!!

#1: The Promised Neverland manga ending edit

Date: Jun 14th 2020 Time: ~ 12h 41min (5h 45min of cleaning panels in the edit + 5h 37min of cleaning panels that didn't make it to the edit + 1h 19min of resizing) + time spent cleaning panels I've deleted the file of so I can't see lmao This is overall very nice!!! The concept of an Emma evolution through her back is cool, and I think overall the edit turned out very aesthetically pleasing. The concept idea came to me while I was working on the 2019 Emma's birthday edit, a long time before the manga ending announcement- back then I wouldn't have imagined using it in occasion of the manga ending, but I think it ended up making a nice tribute. The colors add a nice touch, since so far my edits had always been black and white- it makes a sweet closure. To make that edit I selected 76 panels of Emma framed from her back; I plan to make other versions of that edit using the discarded panels eventually!

#2: Emma - Chapter 181: Beyond Destiny

Date: Jul 12th 2020 Time: 2h 57min My last edit for the manga 🥺🥺 I think this one is my very "manga ending edit" because to me it really signed the ending of weekly chapters and their weekly chapter edits. It makes me a little sad to look at it, but it's also, I don't know, kinda sweet to see how I grew both in my panel cleaning and as a person since I first started my blog. I'm glad I got into TPN!

#3: Emma birthday edit 2020

Date: Aug 22nd 2020 Time: 8h 54min This one turned out so well!!! Though I used the same concept for all the trio edits, I think this one is the best one. The two panels on the left / two panels on the right alternation combo never fails ahah. The colors are nice (shout-out to my sister for making me a palette), despite the fact that it was hard for the lighter ones to make them work with the images without having those disappear. I'm very satisfied with the panels I chose for this, I think they work really good together! Also, it got me very happy to read everyone's comments saying they liked the fading effect in the last panel :)

#4: Emma + Eyes Close Ups [1/?]

Date: Jan 24th 2021 Time: 5h 55min This one was really nice!! Another idea I got when working on the 2019 Emma birthday edit I was glad to finally execute. Started the edit in September, finished it in December. I'm overall very happy with how it turned out... I hope I will be able to make more in the future!

#5: The Promised Neverland Parallels → (9/?) » 114 // 122

Date: Feb 23th 2021 Time: 5h 7min (panel cleaning only) Aaaaahh I really like this one!!!! A parallel I love very much, and I'm really happy with how the edit turned out. All the hair redrawing looks neat!!!! The gif is maybe a little excessive, but I think overall it's a nice edit. I like it!!! Fun fact, I completed it on August 26th 2020, but I couldn't find the right moment to post it ahah.

Date: May 23th 2021 I've wanted to express this concept since like the first time reading the manga- I'm so happy I finally did!!!! This concept is one of my absolute favorite things about tpn- the feelings that people are good. The concept that kids who got to live in an healthy and supportive environment will always be inclined to kindness and altruism, because humans are just inherently good. From the Three Character Classic: “people at birth are inherently good”. I want to have faith and courage to hold on the goodness in myself, and to hold on the goodness in the world, no matter how difficult it to do that (Chloé Zhao).

I took one for the team and watched the wilds dubbed in French, because I love pain

My thoughts:

- the translation is not bad, a few mistranslations but pretty decent overall

- I cringed every time the girls used “teenager language”. It just doesn’t sound right in French and I don’t know whyyyy. hearing Toni says “j’ai soif de la mort” was so wrong. never again please. “j’ai soif sa mère” à la rigueur ça passerait mieux... also Nora’s “j’ai plié le game” hmmmm nope

- they tried to match the level of cursing they have in English, and I appreciate that but it sounds weird. although it gets better halfway through, or maybe I just got used to it.

- I don’t want to drag the voice acting. It’s more about the voice choices than the acting in itself. But Leah sounds like a 35 years old (she also voices Supergirl apparently??). Toni is... hmmm... :/ Fatin and Shelby are good though! Fatin in particular. Also, Dot’s french VA is also Glimmer’s in She-ra which is hilarious.

Interesting translation choices:

- Nora’s Santa joke: “Parce qu’il s’envoie en l’air une fois par an et c’est toujours dans ta cheminée.” bien trouvé

- It’ll save your life, Toni, you’re taking the damn pill. ==> “JE vais te sauver la vie, que tu le veuilles ou non, tu vas avaler ce putain de cachet” interesting choice *eye emoji*

- “shark week for Rachel” ==> “bain de sang pour Rachel”. this was pretty clever and managed to keep the foreshadowing while not sounding suspicious because Rachel was literally in the water

- “Maybe don’t talk to me about hard.” / “Arrête de te la jouer Cendrillon” we’re losing the whole meaning of “maybe I’m not the best person to talk to about this considering my shitty life” but it was funny

- “You actually do [hate me] though” ==> “Non, tu nous as en horreur”. Like, it sounds weird but switching from “me” to “us” brings a new layer of meaning to how Toni sees herself as being part of a community. I think it’s partially because translating “I don’t hate you” in French is not easy. “Je ne te déteste pas” is probably the closest but literally no one says this. Translating literally “Je ne te hais pas/point” is not an option if you don’t want to sound like Chimène in Le Cid (but since Shelby likes theater...). Also it’s the most famous understatement of French literature and and the best way to say “je t’aime” without saying “je t’aime”. They settled on “Je n’ai aucune haine en moi” and it’s good, but leaves out the fact that it’s really fucking personal for the both of them. And Toni has to respond in a general way.

Worst translations:

- Shelby’s “guess I’m playing matchmaker” translated by “je vais jouer les marieuses” en saisissant Toni... okkk. “entremetteuse” would have worked just fine but...

- Toni’s “I do bug you” translated by “T’as envie de me tuer”... y a une différence de degré quand même lol, même si ok, ça fait un bon parallèle avec la suite et Shelby qui lui sauve la vie

- Leah’s “I sat in my fucking love puddle” became “Je suis restée assise, souillée par mon putain d’amour qui me dégoulinait entre les cuisses” ... no comment.

- Toni’s “The fuck are you wearing” became “C’est quoi cette tenue ?” and... :/ I’ve heard this exact sentence from my mom so many times that I can’t take it seriously now...

- the entire mussels scene... the second-hand embarassment of hearing it in french... help... Nora’s “like a pussy” somehow became “comme une belle chatte”... gold medal goes to Leah’s “lick the clit” translated by “picore-lui le clito”

Shelby’s “excuse me I have chill” ==> “pardon mais j’adore la rigolade” this is so fucking funny whyyy

ok but this scene has rights actually because Toni used the word “lesbienne” for “she can’t stand that I’m gay”

- Martha and Toni singing Juicy... but with a french accent :/

- The way they pronounce Jeanette “Djanette” like you would pronounce “Jane”...

- “Chalamet, the t is silent” ===> “Y a pas écrit -tte”. to be fair it’s impossible to translate because no french people would pronounce chalamet with the t.

- Shelby’s infamous “hi there!” became “salut les gars”. salut. les. gars

- I could have done without Fatin saying gouine when translating “people are gonna assume we’re lovers” like... what was the point

- Goodkind pronounced Good kind

- “You’re going dark on me again” ==> “Tu recommences à me bouder, sérieux.”

- “I am legit hot for you right now” / “Tu m’excites grave. j’ai trop envie de baiser avec toi.” la première partie de la phrase suffisait !!!

- They replaced Tony Romo with Matthew McConaughey for Shelby’s crush and ok, nobody knows Tony Romo in France. but Matthew McConaughey?

Longitudinalwaveme Reviews More Old Comics (and One New One), Part 1

I’m going to be doing these reviews in chronological order, starting with the oldest of the bunch. 

Batman #292: “The Testimony of the Riddler” 

This issue is actually the second part of a four-part story, “Where Were You On the Night Batman Was Killed?” Basically, everyone thinks Batman is dead, and a bunch of his villains are coming forward to claim the honor of being his killer. Catwoman’s claim was dismissed last issue; now it’s Riddler’s turn. 

The mock trial that the villains have set up to determine the identity of the killer is amazing. Ra’s al Ghul is the judge, Two-Face is the prosecutor, and the jury is composed of the Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze before B:TAS gave him a good costume, Scarecrow, the Signalman (*snicker*) and the Spook, who I only know as the D-Lister beheaded by Damian Wayne. 

The Riddler begins his testimony, regaling everyone with riddles (some of which seem more like jokes, but whatever), and telling them about a crazy criminal caper he launched, during which time he posed as Bruce Wayne in order to steal a ridiculous jeweled typewriter ( “made of gold, platinum, and ivory...its keys studded with diamonds and rubies...its ribbon made from a Ming Dynasty robe....and its case encrusted with emeralds!”). 

Amusingly, since Riddler doesn’t know Bruce Wayne is Batman, his Batman is not at all surprised to come across “Bruce Wayne” at the party. Batman ends up following the Riddler’s clues to find the Riddler and the ridiculously fancy typewriter in a quarry, whereupon the Riddler uses a knife he has to cut a rope that was holding some rock slabs. According to Riddler, the slabs fell on Batman, pinning him. Riddler then blew him up with dynamite (which he set off using a latern’s flames).

As soon as he finishes his testimony, Two-Face calls him a liar; gets permission to take the entire court outside, sets up a deathtrap using the dynamite Riddler claims he used to kill the Batman, and orders the bailiffs to tie Riddler to the trap and light it all on fire. 

They do, and the Riddler promptly passes out. Two-Face then walks onto the trap himself, and nothing happens. As Two-Face explains, “dynamite does not explode in fire! It can be lighted only by electric spark or percussion!” 

Riddler is eliminated as a potential candidate and escorted from the courtroom (with an apparent $25,000 fine for the dynamite display). 

Several other claimants retract their claims, and Ra’s adjourns the court for the day. 

Also, Bronze Age Riddler makes a surprisingly convincing Bruce Wayne, all things considered (this was back when he still had black hair; rather than red). 

Batman #293, “Luthor’s Testimony”

This issue takes up immediately where the last one left off, with Lex Luthor of all people taking the stand in the costume you can see in the picture above. It’s...certainly something, all right. 

Cluemaster, Killer Moth, the Cavalier, and some random gangsters are also at the trial. Most are impressed by Luthor’s amazing(ly hilarious) new outfit, which I’m pretty sure he only ever wore once (for this trial).

Luthor does his usual grandstanding before launching into the story of his latest plot to kill Superman. 

Said plot involved a fake robbery to lure Batman into a trap that would allow Luthor to put Superman’s mind into Batman’s body. 

Luthor then punched Superman-in-Batman’s-body to death and launched the body into space. Luthor says that now he’s leaving to go back to Metropolis, where he’ll put his own mind into Superman’s body so that he may become Super-Luthor. 

Two-Face proceeds to demolish Luthor’s story, first by calling in one of Luthor’s goons to reveal that Batman had infiltrated Luthor’s gang by posing as a henchman, and then calling in Superman himself to prove that, in fact, Superman’s mind is still in its body.  Superman just dressed up as Batman and pretended to be Superman-in-Batman’s-body to fool Luthor. 

Exposed as a liar, Luthor storms out of the room, but not before yelling at Two-Face for “colluding with Superman” and insulting the criminal pretensions of everyone in the room. 

Also, Two-Face somehow managed to convince Superman to grant every villain in the courtroom amnesty. (Although if I’m remembering the fourth part of the story properly, I think “Two-Face” is really Batman in disguise, explaining why he was so easily able to get into contact with Superman and probably making the amnesty fake.)

The comic ends with the Joker’s signature laughter; he’ll be the last villain to give testimony in front of the kangaroo court. Sadly, I don’t have that issue, so I won’t be reviewing it here. 

Batman #296, “The Sinister Straws of the Scarecrow” 

Scarecrow has henchmen he calls “Strawmen”. They have weird costumes and exist to give him someone to deliver all his lectures to and test his fear gas on. As usual, his speeches to his underlings sound...well...like simplified college psychology lectures. 

Otto the burly henchman’s deepest fear is Batman. What a surprise. 

Phobias namedropped by the Scarecrow (and narration boxes): phobophobia (the fear of fear), pyrophobia (fear of fire), algophobia (fear of pain), pathophobia (fear of illness), taphephobia (the fear of being buried alive), inutilophobia (the fear of not being able to carry on one’s work) and “chiropterhomopobia”. The last is especially interesting since it’s not actually a real word; it’s a fictional one that manages to effectively follow the formula used for naming phobias. “Chiropterophobia” is the fear of bats. “Homophobia”, in this case, is the fear of men (homo referring to our species name, homo sapiens); therefore chiropterhomophobia would be the fear of bat-men. Good work with conjugation there, writer! 

Anyway, the Scarecrow uses a crook named Skibo’s taphephobia to convince him to give them the location of the turnpike bond money he stole from Gotham City’s National Bank several months ago.

The next day at the bank, the money is returned, puzzling Bruce Wayne. Wayne goes to interrogate a crook who talks in confusing criminal slang, who tells him that Skibo was the one who fenced the stolen bonds. 

Batman tracks Skibo down...and finds him being assaulted by the Scarecrow, who believes that the bonds he returned to the bank were counterfeit. This is problematic for the Scarecrow because it suggests that Skibo was able to withstand his fear of the Scarecrow and disobey his orders, which would interefere with his ability to intercept criminals who are obeying his orders to return stolent money and take the money for himself. 

Batman, Skibo, Scarecrow, and his goons get into a free-for-all that ends up causing an explosion. In the chaos, Scarecrow and the goons escape and Batman gets information out of Skibo about the Scarecrow’s plans. 

Scarecrow and his goons then go after a thief who stole a valuable Gutenberg Bible, but before they can use the fear toxin on him, Batman shows up and they use it on him instead. It affects Batman, but he shakes it off and manages to defeat the Scarecrow and his goons as well as capture the thief who stole the Guetenberg Bible. 

The story ends with Batman telling Commissioner Gordon that he found the case exhilarating. 

All-in-all, a pretty standard Scarecrow story. 

Batman #308, “There’ll Be a Cold Time in the Old Town Tonight” 

Some guy named Jacob Riker has betrayed Mr. Freeze. The man in question is promptly murdered by Freeze and his henchmen. 

In this issue, Mr. Freeze is wearing an outfit that’s reminiscent of Captain Cold’s, but with a bubble-helmet and pink shades. 

Catwoman shows up in Bruce Wayne’s office to tell him that she’s reformed and wants to invest money in Wayne Enterprises. Bruce agrees, and also agrees to meet her for dinner at some point next week. She also brings a cat with her to this meeting, because of course she does. 

Lucius Fox introduces Bruce Wayne to his daughter, Tiffany, who works in a drug rehabilitation program sponsored by the Wayne Foundation. After exchanging pleasantries, Bruce tells Lucius to give him a complete rundown on what Selina’s been up to, presumably so that he can know if she’s on the level. 

He moons over Catwoman for a bit before getting called into action by the Batsignal, and he subsequently arrives at the scene of Riker’s murder. The guy is frozen solid and very dead. 

Some rich guy name Mr. McVee comes to Mr. Freeze; he’s exchanging all his wealth in exchange for the promise of immortality. 

Unfortunately, the process turns the man into a Popsicle zombie. His body is alive, but his brain is dead. 

Also, Mr. Freeze has a girlfriend named Hildy, whom he loves and is planning to make immortal (as he himself effectively is). Unfortunately for him, she does not reciprocate his feelings and is using him solely as a means of staying young forever. Interestingly, she’s blonde, just like Nora usually is (Nora, of course, didn’t exist at the time this was written). 

Meanwhile, at STAR labs, a medical treatment goes wrong and kills somebody. 

Batman finds and breaks into Mr. Freeze’s hideout...and is promptly attacked by Mr. Freeze and his Popsicle zombies. Mr. Freeze dubs them his “Ice Pack”. 

Mr. Freeze manages to take Batman out of the fight by freezing his legs, which causes him to fall to the floor. This allows him to be captured by the Popsicle Zombies and put inside Mr. Freeze’s immortality machine. 

Batman is apparently turned into another mindless Popsicle zombie as Mr. Freeze exposits about how lonely his life is and how much he loves Hindy. 

Mr. Freeze leaves Hildy in the room with the Popsicle zombies, at which point Hildy starts to talk to Batman about how she thinks he’s cute and she’d rather be immortal with him rather than with Freeze (who she’s planning to kill in any case).

Unfortunately for her, Mr. Freeze overhears her and is predictably furious, pointing his Freeze Ray directly at her face. 

Batman saves her from an icy fate by attacking Mr. Freeze, revealing as he does so that he had only pretended to be frozen by the machine (having disconnected several of the building’s extra power lines). Cue another fight with Freeze and the Popsicle Zombies. 

Batman uses a piece of ice to break Freeze’s bubble helmet; preventing him from giving any more orders to the Popsicle Zombies. He then fights Freeze some more. The Freeze Ray goes flying and gets grabbed by Hildy, who plans to kill both of them. Unfortunately, the gun backfires on her and she’s killed instead. Mr. Freeze is arrested. 

Meanwhile, we learn that the dead guy was the Blockbuster, Mark Desmond, and that he isn’t quite as dead as the people at STAR Labs think. 

Justice League of America #167, “The League That Defeated Itself!”

The splash page is of Superman punching Hal Jordan Green Lantern in the face.

The explanation is pretty quickly forthcoming: the Secret Society of Super-Villains has swapped bodies with the Justice League. The Wizard from Earth-2 is in Superman’s body, Professor Zoom the Reverse-Flash is in Green Lantern’s body, Plant-Master is in Wonder Woman’s body (ew), Star Sapphire is in Zatanna’s body, and Blockbuster is in Batman’s body.

The real Justice League are trapped in the bodies of the villains and locked in a cube-shaped cell. Superman guides Hal into using his new super-speed to help them break free of the cube.

The Joker stars in a Hostess Fruit pie ad!

The villains have left for Earth, leaving the heroes (who are trapped in their bodies) alone on the JLA Satellite, along with an unconscious Red Tornado, whom they promptly wake up.

Naturally unaware of the switch, the Tornado attacks them and they fight. Zatanna manages to bring the tornado down using Star Sapphire’s powers, and the JLA go off to find their bodies on Earth, with Batman telling Zatanna that she’ll have to reverse the spell as their only magician.

Green Lantern gets some information out of Hijack (who I think is a member of the Royal Flush Gang) by pretending to be Reverse-Flash. The information helps them locate the Society’s HQ.

As soon as they break into the building, however...they’re promptly incapacitated by Green Arrow (except for Zatanna, who remained outside). Green Arrow is suspicious of the way Superman is behaving and decides to keep an eye on him and the others who “located” the HQ of the Secret Society.

Justice League of America #168, “The Last Great Switcheroo”

This issue picks up where the last issue left off. Ollie and Hawkman are supsicous about the behavior of their allies, while Black Canary ad the Elongated Man don’t think anything unusual is going on.

Eobard traps the “villains” in a diamond cell, and then the Wizard chucks the diamond into another dimension!  

The Wizard covers for himself by claiming that the “villains” have been put into “time-stasis” by “Green Lantern”’s ring. “I just tossed the diamond into an orbit around the solar system! They’ll remain there until science perfects criminal rehabilitation.” For some reason, everyone except Green Arrow immediately accepts this excuse.

Red Tornado breaks free of the trap Zatanna-in-Star-Sapphire’s-Body had to put him in last issue and criticizes the decisions he made in the fight with them.

Zatanna then arrives on the satellite and convinces Red Tornado of the swap that’s taken place.

Meanwhile, in Mexico, the Secret Society and the remaining members of the Justice League are, at least allegedly, guarding some jewels for the Mexican government. Elongated Man, Hawkman, and the Flash are also becoming suspicious of their supposed allies.

And then Eobard ruins everything in the most Eobard way possible: forcing a kiss onto Black Canary!

The real Justice Leaguers fight and defeat the impostors (except for the Wizard, who left to “patrol the city”)...but before he can step in to salvage his plan, Superman uses the Wizard’s own magic to take his body down.

Zatanna reverses the mind-swap, and the day is saved.

Was it this story that later got retconned to include more mindwiping thanks Identity Crisis, or am I thinking of a different storyline?

Flash #275, “The Last Dance” 

In this issue, Iris Allen dies! 

The story starts with Barry in the grip of a teenaged girl with ESP powers (no, really. Cary Bates, the issue’s writer, really liked the paranormal). His marriage with his wife Iris has been struggling, and she fears that he might be cheating on her. 

She’s also spying on him by bugging his costume rings with “micro-mini homing signal devices”, which just goes to show that literally anyone in the DCU can invent amazing technology at the drop of a hat. 

Stalking the stalker is Clive Yorkin, a character from the plot thread that’s been building up to this issue. He’s kind of based off of the brainwashing scene in A Clockwork Orange and hates the Flash and Barry Allen. 

The teenager uses her mental powers to force the Flash to meet her at a motel and take off his mask, which he does. She’s apparently disappointed by the results, complaining that there’s nothing remarkable about him, and promptly storms out. 

Iris arrives in her car just as the girl storms out, and discovers that she’s coming from the room that her tracker has Barry in. She storms inside and accuses Barry of cheating on her, then runs out in tears.

Also, right before she storms out, Barry looks at himself in the mirror and thinks “ “Ordinary”? What in blazes is that supposed to mean? I may not be Robert Redford...but I always thought I was sort of sexy...at least, that’s what Iris told me.” It’s mildly hilarious. 

Iris promptly gets into a car wreck with a tanker truck. Barry manages to save both her and the two truck drivers from the massive explosion that this causes. 

Barry convinces Iris that he wasn’t cheating and the two promptly make  up. 

Meanwhile, Mysterious Shadowy Man on the Phone tells someone to kill Barry Allen at a philanthropist’s upcoming costume party for all of the employees of Central City’s government (e.g., police officers, firefighters, etc.) The Mysterious Shadowy Man on the Phone will eventually be revealed to be the corrupt police chief of Central City, Chief Paulson.  

Iris and Barry decide they want to have kids, then kiss. D’awww! 

Iris’ costume for the party arrives; she’s going as Batgirl. Barry was planning to rent a Batman outfit, but it was already rented, so Barry ends up going to the costume ball dressed as himself (that is, the Flash).

Clyde Yorkin is still stalking both of them. 

Barry’s friend from work, Frank Curtis, arrives to pick the couple up. Hilariously, he’s also dressed as the Flash. 

The theme of the party is “Dress as Your Favorite Super-Character”. Iris comments “it’ll be interesting to see whether we get more heroes or villains!”...which raises a question: Namely, why is everyone totally okay with people dressing up as people who are, in their world, real costumed criminals? That’s always seemed odd to me. 

Clive Yorkin sneaks into the trunk of Curtis’ car and slips out as the other three head for the party.

Inside the mansion, we see a huge number of people dressed up as famous DC characters, including Hawkgirl, the Calculator, Heat Wave, two Green Lanterns, Zatanna, Aquaman, Green Arrow, two Black Canaries, Abra Kadabra, Batman, Wonder Woman, Professor Zoom the Reverse-Flash, Star Sapphire, Supergirl, Pied Piper, Poison Ivy, Captain Cold, the Golden Glider, the Top, mustachioed Superman, some guy in a purple costume I can’t ID, Mirror Master, the Golden Age Sandman, and Captain Boomerang. 

The Golden Age Sandman is actually an assassin in disguise; he was hired by Chief Paulson to get rid of Barry Allen before he discovered his corruption; he drugs Barry by “shooting” him with his Sandman gun. One of the Green Lanterns is actually Hal Jordan, who pops up to say hi to Barry and Iris. A later story will reveal that the Captain Boomerang in this issue was the real Captain Boomerang, and that some of the other Rogues were also actually at the party so they could, quote, “party and pick pockets”. Yet another subsequent issue will reveal that the Reverse-Flash at the party was in fact the real Eobard. So...which of the other Rogues do we think were at the party? We know that the Captain Cold isn’t real; he’s “Phil from Vice”.  That means that the Golden Glider alongside him is probably not the real one either, and it seems unlikely that the Top here is the real one, since he was dead at this point. So that leaves the Pied Piper, Mirror Master, and Heat Wave as possible candidates. 

Chief Paulson calls Barry to meet him in his office at 9 AM the next day; Barry agrees but notes that the man seems oddly tense. 

Curtis, still dressed as the Flash, goes outside for a smoke break and gets jumped by Yorkin, who mistakenly believes him to be Barry (until he rips his mask off, at which point he just throws him off the balcony.)

Barry sees a Green Lantern making the moves on Iris and gets upset until Hal reveals that he’s the real Green Lantern and congratulates them on their plan to become parents. He then flies out the window, and somehow all the party goers are fully convinced that it’s just a really elaborate costume. Huh?

Iris tempts fate by saying that “this might be the happiest moment of my life!” The two go off together to get some privacy...but then Barry begins to feel dizzy, as though he’s been drugged. Iris goes into the bathroom to get him some water...and then Barry hears her screaming! He bursts into the bathroom to see Iris on the floor, with Yorkin standing over her. Yorkin then jumps out a window as Barry runs to his wife. 

A bunch of the guests, including Mustachioed Superman, burst into the room to see what the commotion is, and Barry passes out. Curtis bursts in a few seconds later to learn that one of his friends needs a hospital....and that the other is dead! It’s a very effective cliffhanger.

MY DEMON BOIS. Are are loosely based off of actual demons.

Aldinach was actually my second ever OC (First being Nicoleta!) which means he has come a long way.

So he is based off of an Egyptian demon. Aldinach is a demon who can create and control natural disasters. And that's about all I know about the actual demon. Demons don't get background stories like Gods sadly. So When I made Aldinach I was looking for a last name and I found the name Aapep and I was like "k, sweet. I like that" then a few years later when I am having another intense Ancient Egypt phase, I discover that Aapep is an Egyptian God! Well, actually he was demoted to Demon bc he's basically a version of the devil, but if you ask me Seth is way worse. But Aapep is Ra's enemy.

I'm sure you've seen this before if you've ever dove into ancient Egypt

Aapep is depicted as a snake, and the Sun goes down because Ra is basically busy fighting Aapep.

Anyway so in that moment I was like "Welp. Aapep is his dad now" which caused me to change him more to who he is now.

He is from Hierakonpolis, 1973 BCE. He has no clue who his mother is, and he hasn't seen Aapep in quite some time. However, none of the gods know that he exist, mainly bc if Ra would find out that his enemy had a child, he'd be dead. Until 1398 BCE that is.

While in Qua he happened to meet Hathor....daughter of Ra. At one point Ra was like "Humanity is very tainted. Lets destroy it" and him and Hathor set to do so, but after a while Ra was like "wait..no...this bad" and Hathor was like "yeah....I'm gonna keep doing it" Now Hathor has never seen a demon, she's like "You aren't a mortal, but I know all the gods???" Side note: Hathor is a goddess of love, so you already know where this is going.

Aldinach is like "You're punishing Mortals, and I just like to cause chaos. Let's team up" He's also a huge flirt. They made a deal that Aldinach will help Hathor with killing humanity, but then Hathor was going to kill him after they were done and he was like "Deal, but you gotta seal it with a kiss" So they go to Akhmim then to Thinis. After that they were headed to Karnak but Hathor is suddenly like "uhh I gotta go to Dendara, I'll meet you in Karnak"

Aaaand then Ra found him. He tricked Hathor and she told him all about Aldinach. Now Aldinach is only a few centuries old, a baby compared to most Gods, so he has no chance against Ra, and he knows this, but he isn't sure what to do. The fight didn't last too long. Everything went black and then Aldinach wakes up chained to a wall. Ra, Osiris, and Thoth quickly had a small tomb build and put Aldinach inside. Now Thoth is technically on Aapep's side, if you know anything about the Emerald Tablets, that kinda explains why. But I'm not going to get into that. Thoth planned on breaking Aldinach out of the tomb after some time, but by the time he went to go do so, the tomb was buried. Aldinach caused quite a few sand storms and earthquakes out of anger, which caused him to bury himself alive.

It wasn't until modern day when archaeologists discovered a buried tomb outside of Luxor(in my notes I have like 2016 written). And you know what white people do in Egypt. They dig it up and open it. Everyone part of that died, except one, who Aldinach let go.

He had no clue what year it was, how much time had passed. But he made his way out and Thoth was waiting for him to take him to his place to keep him hidden. Now....It's been like 3000 years....nothing is the same. Thoth is like "Fuck you need a shower" and Aldinach freaks the fuck out when Thoth shows him. Not only is everything a culture shock, he's also been having an identity crisis. Aapep who was originally a God, with God Blood is his father. Being dubbed a demon didn't change his blood, so does that mean Aldianch is actually a God??? No one knows who his mother is, and no one can find Aapep.

Also, this is the face claim I use for him: Pedro Perestrello. I was looking for Egyptian models, and I found him and I was hooked that this was Aldinach, and so I go looking for his name...and find out he is actually Brazilian, but I couldn't say no.

He started as an Angel. 1200 BCE is when shit went down though. He sorta started collecting souls.

In mythology he is the commander of 60 legions, often depicted as a knight, can foretell the future and give military aid, rides a winged horse and is a great manipulator and can induce mortals into murder and genocide.

Now as an Angel, he gave mortals military aid and helped them win wars in exchange for their souls, which is how he started to build these legions. Obviously we can't have an Angel doing that. So these two others take him and torture him, cause well angels are assholes. They can't being having a now demon walking around with angel blood. So they repeatedly drain him of his own blood and replace it with demon blood. Now, obvs this is painful, but the blood can't mix. Having the mixed blood would make him an abomination, and normally when one of those are born like when a God and a Demon have a baby, the baby won't survive because of the mixed blood. It burns, the veins feel like they are on fire.

So this goes on for a few months, but the angel blood will never fully be out of his veins. He's finally let out into the mortal realm with nothing. Now because of the bit of angel blood that he does have, it keeps his angel wings alive, but they are also dying, the feathers are falling out but they are still alive.

I kinda have some notes written down that he does go to Egypt before Aldinach is even born, but idk if I wanna cross over that much yet.

But by the 5th century he makes his way to Europe where he meets Ambrosia, who absolutely HATES mortals, meanwhile she sees Abigor talking to them. Little does she knows he's really gaining souls. He gives them a little bit of information on how to win a war, and in return he gets to use them in war for eternity.

As time goes on his wings are still there, but very slowly, slowly, slowly dying. Eventually he can't stand it any longer, and he straight up rips them out of his back, bones and everything. This caused two deep concave scars on his back once it healed. He also got an earful from Ambrosia when she came back to see this. The two angels also did something to cause him to grow horns to look more like a demon even though he still had his wings.

You know one think I liked a lot about the She Ra finale?

There is the same amount of same-sex canon relationship as the straight one, but there's a big difference.

The most important and explicit gay couple was between the protagonist of the serie and a co-protagonist. And we can clearly see that they cared about each other during the ENTIRE series, but in the last season they were explicit the whole time. HELL Catra said "Not like I want her" far before they kiss, and when they finally did it was undeniable. They love each other, they are canon.

The other gay couples where Spinnetossa, who were obvious during the ENTIRE series and they also kissed twice (in the english dub they are also married I think?), and Kyle and Rogelio whom we never saw togheter and get one line but that was "Kyle has a crush on him" so... this is also explicit.

Now... the straight couples.

First thing first, Searmista! My babies who flirted since season 2.

But they actually never said they were together, they never kissed, Mermista never admitted she loved him too. Also, they are the most important straight couple and are secondary characters.

Second: Glimbow. They confessed during the battle, but didn't kiss. The only time we saw them acting like a romantic couple was during Adora's dream sooo... yeah, you CAN see them that way but the series never EXPLICITELY SAID IT, hell, the confession was out of the blue even, nothing about their relationship until then couldn't be seen as mere friendship.

Isn't it funny?

Ohhh and we must not forget Hordak and Entrapta!! Again, you ship them? Good good, theh have chemistry and a good story but...aren't they just...lab partners, friends? It's what they keep talking about, how they are friends. You can obviously see them as lovers, see them falling in love but that happened on screen? Did they ever said they were in love?

Nope, they did not.

It was implied.

Shera swapped the couples, making explicit the relationship that nornally aren't and treating the straight ones as media normally treat lgbt+ couples and characters and i think that's so sexy of her.
