It’s so strange being a student at a really leftist college right now. I briefly mention being Jewish in a classroom in which we’re specifically talking about marginalized identities and I can literally see people around me, my colleagues and “friends”, wrinkle their noses in disgust. I’ve stopped wearing my Magen David because I’m afraid of what people would think and I feel disgusted with myself for being weak but the last time I wore it someone spit on me. I know we joke a lot about fast Dazai fell for Chuuya but honestly, I get it. Dazai spends who knows how long just wanting to die, not caring about life, not feeling human, only doing this job because he was promised a painless death at the end. And then he meets this loud cocky brat, who literally sparkles in Dazai's eyes, and he's so alive, he cares so much, he's wiling to be hated by the only family he's ever had to keep them safe. Of corse he was obsessed. He met someone who was so full of life and humanity the poor guy never stood a chance. It's part of why I love describing Chuuya from Dazai's point of view, he always looks beautiful. Could be beaten half to death and the way he's still so clearly alive would be borderline etherial.
