Nobody Home
The grounds were quiet. Not the peaceful kind, but the more sinister sort. The quiet that came after a disaster or attack. Which made it increasingly eerie to see the temple and its surroundings look largely undisturbed. Everything looked normal. Like the inhabitants were just inside and going about their day. But the Combaticons knew better.
Just days ago, the Soothsayers had been approached by some mysterious figure that several people were now concluding was a Quintesson. So. The Quintessons came here, took the Soothsayers, and left behind two sick humans.
They could not help with the last part. They were not doctors or scientists. But they could look into who was behind all this. Perhaps even track them down. Board the ship, break everyone out. Yes, even Hot Spot. Gestalts were clearly being targeted in this situation, and no one, not even their fellow combiners, deserved a fate that left them in the hands of Quintessons.
Onslaught nodded to his team, “Spread out, search the area. We are here to find answers.”

What exactly *is* Sideswipe's motive behind the attempts to get a response?
It all started with some encrypted messages he and others received.
Tumblr media
It happened almost a year ago, and it was a puzzle that spanned the multiverse. Several beings ended up with the pieces. Mysterious jumbles of numbers and letters. And Sideswipe likes puzzles. He has a need to know. So of course he tried to help solve them.
He and others worked together to figure out what it all meant.
Tumblr media
One by one they figured out the riddles, and translated nonsense, and ciphers into tangible things. Coordinates to find the next clues. Concrete requests for odd things like samples. Simple samples of things like types of water, flora, fauna-
Some fun extra things to be snarky.
And Sideswipe went along with it. He trusted it. He shouldn’t have
Tumblr media
Regardless, slowly it all came together. And eventually they were able to get messages from the source. The pings and comms became less corrupted. It started to sound like an S.O.S. The source sent warnings “LOW FUEL, SHIELDING DOWN”. And Sideswipe became convinced that this odd game had turned into a rescue. They all, he and others, collectively figured out the last of the puzzles and traced it to a place in Siberia. The source. Where they found a downed ship.
Tumblr media
So they explored. But when they explored they found odd things. A dead organic on a table. A shell. No living crew. Nothing of note. But eventually they found life. The ship was Cybertronian. It was alive. Only it didn’t know this. It thought it was just a ship. And the ship was dying. They tried to save it. They found its spark under the floor but they didn’t know what to do.
So.
Tumblr media
They failed and watched it die.
And later Sideswipe on the heels of this failure recognized a comm. It was similar to the ship’s. The one that sent the ciphers and puzzles. He thought maybe it was a friend of the ship. Told them what happened. Tried to explain. The conversation ended. And later, almost by a whole year, the one who he had hailed sent them weaponized packages that set off an EMP in their medical bay, kidnapped several gestalt, and infected their human friends.
Bad things.
Hurtful things.
Maybe they hurt the ship too.
So
That’s why.

Dennis wakes up...
...and finds himself surrounded by a white, metal? plastic? ring. When he reaches up to push it away, and groans at how much effort it takes to move his arm, he hears his father’s filtered voice speaking from... somewhere. (It’s hard to determine exactly where it’s coming from, his mind so clouded and groggy he thinks he might as well go back to sleep than attempt functioning like this.)
“Dennis? Dennis, can you hear me?” Whatever words Dennis tries to make come out as only a groaned slur. “Kiddo, if you can hear me then I need you to sit still for a bit, okay? We’re running a scan on you right now so you need to sit still until it’s done. Can you do that, kiddo? Is that okay?”
“Sure.” He mumbles out, dropping his arm back to his side and making a lazy attempt at giving a thumbs up. He didn’t really have the energy to argue against whatever was going on anyway so he might as well be cool with it. And since he’s up, in god knows how long, he’ll try to make an effort to stay up. Hopefully for more than just a second, but time will tell.

Oh look, a text message from your new alien pal. [Hello again Dennis.]
Tumblr media
Oh shit, there’s a text notification from the not-ship-alien-thing’s number. It’s a few hours old but not that old; Hopefully not so old that it won’t answer him back.
[::Hey!!][::I didn’t know you could text][::This is cool][::What’s up inquisitor?]
