January 2024 Review Roundup
Tumblr media
hello everypony‼️ something i want to do through 2024 is a mini review series where i recap some of the media i watched/played/read at the end of every month. this was inspired by tumblr user ponett’s 2023 media wrap-up, it's a great collection of quick reviews so go check it out!
i’m doing this partially as writing/analysis practice, but mostly because my memory is really bad and i want to keep track of what i've seen this year. with that said, my thoughts on everything i finished in january 2024 is under the cut :]
Portal 1 + 2
yyyup i beat Portal and it only took me (checks watch) 13 years
the first time i played Portal 2 was at a friend’s house when i was in middle school, and i had a fuckin blast. but after all that time... it still holds up! i don’t think anything i have to say about Portal will be particularly new since people have been praising this series since it came out. the writing, the level design, even the controls feel tight and engaging the whole way through. i played on switch and expected a bit of jank, but i was pleasantly surprised at how smooth it felt to play. the only part that dragged for me were the levels through the old aperture labs, but i think i would like them a lot more on a second replay. Portal 2 is fantastic and one of my new favorite games, the artistry behind it is truly incredible and i’m really glad i finally finished it. while i was playing Portal 2, i described Glados and Wheatly to a friend and said “they’re like if a ceiling fan could be passive aggressive and if Fozzie Bear was an evil golf ball”
I Think You Should Leave
finally. i can truly understand and appreciate Subspace Dubbed Over
i think one of my favorite things about I Think You Should Leave is how it utilizes horror. beyond sitting slack-jawed in disbelief at the crazy events unfolding before my eyes, a number of the sketches dipped into bits that genuinely kinda scared me. like the one sketch that circulates on here where the guy (pig?) in a mask crawls through a dog door, which is. genuinely terrifying. but so many of the other sketches have slow, nerve-racking pacing leading to crazy shit that would be perfect in a horror film were the context different. idk i like dissecting how horror and comedy are essentially the same thing and I Think You Should Leave was very good at enabling that <3 favorite sketches are probably “then let my wife eat the damn receipt” and “55 BURGERS 55 HOTDOGS 100 FRIES 100 TATER TOTS”
Sonic Prime Season 3
man. ohhhh man. i didn’t go into this with high expectations and i still feel let down. Sonic Prime Season 3 was definitely my least favorite “season” of the batch - abysmal pacing, very few character moments i actually enjoyed, and the things i praised about the show felt very underutilized through these episodes. Nine is the shining star of Sonic Prime and i was looking forward to seeing his more villainous side, but his character took such a sharp turn into pure evil and it felt like he spent the entire season repeating the same three lines. and as much as i praise Shadow’s writing in Prime, it doesn’t really matter when he spends half of the season trapped in a hole that he just… runs out of later.
lastly, i cannot stop thinking about how bad the pacing of this season is. three episodes for a repetitive final battle feels like such a waste of time when you see just how much they rush the emotional resolutions in the last episode. however, there is one thing i truly love about Sonic Prime Season 3 - i love the Sails and Mangey fakeout death. it's so fucking funny. like you really expect me to believe that two cartoon animals in this Y-7 rated show EXPLODED?????? absolute comedy gold.
overall, i just… don’t really know what to think of Sonic Prime. anything i enjoyed in the show was often fleeting, and much of it felt like its only purpose was to waste my time. also Rouge i can’t believe they did you so dirty oh my god
Ghost Trick
i was so proud that i figured out the secret behind Sissel’s memory loss like halfway through the game. however i also kept getting caught during the prison escape sequence like an idiot
Ghost Trick is in a similar situation as Portal where 1. it’s incredible and one of my new favorite games, and 2. there’s nothing i can really say about it that hasn’t already been said or just. shouldn’t be said. Ghost Trick is a fantastic mystery game, and because of that i think it’s best to go into its story as blind as possible. the narrative unfolds in such fascinating ways - even though the actual object manipulation gameplay isn’t directly about solving the mystery (like in Ace Attorney or other mystery games), it still ties wonderfully into the story in some incredibly unique ways.
i also really love the artstyle of Ghost Trick - i love 2D character artwork with that sharp lineweight, it reminded me a lot of Sonic Battle (another game with an artstyle i love). i was also really impressed by the 3D character models and animation - despite the limitations of the camera, you get a wonderful sense of everyone’s personality from the limited body language expressed in the overworld (even though the models lack much facial expression which. i guess they don’t really need? idk that was the only thing that threw me off). anyways yeah everyone should play Ghost Trick so Ghost Trick fans can be freed from their curse and talk about it without having to tag like 10 different spoiler tags. and for Missile
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
ok bear with me. i went into Scott Pilgrim Takes Off without reading the comics first. and i fuckin loved it
my understanding of Scott Pilgrim before SPTO was mostly from the movie (I KNOW I’M SORRY), but even with my base understanding of the series i really enjoyed this show for what it was. i found myself appreciating the time they dedicated to further develop every single character in the show - especially Ramona. she’s fantastic as the lead, i really loved watching her reconcile with her exes and seeing all of them grow instead of exploding into coins. my favorite episode was probably the one with her and Roxie - not only did i adore the movie-jumping set pieces, but you really understand the weight of Ramona’s mistakes in their past relationship and how much it hurt Roxie. despite the big climactic fight, the flashbacks are quiet, subtle, heartbreaking. Ramona’s apology is genuine, and it feels so wonderful to watch her confront her past throughout the show. also i think it’s really funny that for all these characters to become the best versions of themselves, they had to kill off Scott for most of the story
and holy shit the artstyle and animation. oh my god. i love watching something that makes me immediately go “i need to see the storyboards for this RIGHT NOW.” SPTO is such a visual delight to watch, it elevates the artstyle of the comics while also keeping what makes that style so appealing - i love the line weight on the characters, i love how much forward energy the animation has, i love the fucking. virtual boy section. as soon as i found out Science Saru was also behind Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken, everything made immediate sense. i was destined to love this show.
another worry i had going into SPTO (besides the fact that i hadn’t read the comics lol) is that the original cast from the movie was returning. i think the movie cast is fine, but i wasn’t sure how some of them would fare with voice acting for animation. however, i thought they all did a good job - i think the whole cast loves these characters and would be able to fit into them fairly easily no matter what form their performance takes, and they definitely had a good voice director in the studio with them. the only thing that felt off about the voice performances to me was that sometimes it sounded like some of their mics kept peaking?? idk some of these episodes i watched high as balls and i felt like i could hear and see every single sound and frame of the show. so that might have just been me.
god i did not. expect to have this much to say about Scott Pilgrim. i really loved this show and i’m currently reading the comics to fully catch up on the general Scott Pilgrim experience - i think reading the comics AFTER Takes Off is making me appreciate even more of the character work that went into the show. like they do so much with Mathew Patel in SPTO, a character that was. not originally around for a long time from what i’ve gathered? also i like the funny little robot. oh my GOD i cannot talk about this show anymore whatever it’s good get me out of here
Sword AF Season 1
i put on the Smosh cast’s D&D series to play in the background while i was drawing. i did not expect to think much of it. instead, i had one of the most enjoyable D&D podcast experiences since i listened to The Adventure Zone Balance???
i haven’t really enjoyed other D&D podcasts since i dropped off of The Adventure Zone, and i wasn’t expecting much from Sword AF of all things. then i saw that Shayne was playing as a druid warforged made of plants and his name was fucking Fernie and i sat my ass down and LISTENED. while i think Sword AF is currently lacking in its world and larger story, those things just. aren’t really what Sword AF is really trying to provide at the moment. it’s main focus is comedy, and the players are genuinely such a delight to watch play together and build off of each other. they mostly focus on bits and goofs for the sake of she show's comedic tone, but i still found it thoroughly enjoyable because every player embodies and performs their characters really well. idk Sword AF was an unexpected hit for me this month, i thought it was fun. and i love Fernie so much
Plastic Death - Glass Beach
so originally i wasn’t going to include music reviews in these roundups at all, but then i was entirely surprised by a new Glass Beach album and oh my god. holy shit. oh my fucking god jesus christ. holy shit. its preddy good
Plastic Death gets the low point of the album out of the way immediately. it starts with the “phone call/conversation audio” trope that i don’t particularly enjoy - HOWEVER despite me disliking this opening, 1. it sets up the overall themes of Plastic Death very quickly, and 2. the rest of the album blows this 40 second opening completely out of the water. from there, the album grows into something beautiful and uncontained, and i just. i really like it
Plastic Death captures the beauty of the temporary, asks what it means to be created for a cause you can’t fulfill, questions if you can reclaim yourself from cycles and constraints designed to destroy you. and is also about being transgender. the lyrics are abstract in a way that requires a conversation with the listener, many of the vocals obscured and smooth like waves - this album is definitely one that needs to be listened to a few times. i wasn’t sure how i felt about the vocal style at first before realizing the vocals were the main reason i was relistening to this album, allowing myself to find even more that i loved about it. the instrumentation is also incredible, i love the use of marimba in a number of songs - distant, eerie, almost skeletal. and the fucking. 8-bit section?? which kinda rules???? and that’s the only point in the album it ever shows up??????? incredible. a fleeting, somewhat silly moment that i love every time.
this album left my heart aching, in part from my connection to it and in part from the pure love and joy emanating from this music. i can feel just how much fun this music was to perform and create, a cohesion of time and sound that just clicked for me. Plastic Death made me miss playing music, which is something i haven’t felt in years. all from an album that starts with a conversation about CrankGameplay’s dead youtube channel. good lord
i like this album a normal amount. go listen to it a few times. my favorite tracks are cul-de-sac and commatose
Wish
i watched Wish with a couple of friends and knew i probably wasn't going to like it. with that in mind, i gave myself a challenge: i wanted to find one thing about this movie that i genuinely really loved. it could be anything, and loving it for ironic reasons was allowed.
here's the complete list of things i loved about Disney's Wish (2023):
i love the one shot where King Magnifico stirs an evil caldron evily. i thought it was hilarious. what was he cooking
i loved that the end credits included a reference to Dinosaur 2001 at all, and i loved that they paid homage to Big Hero 6 by showing the forgettable villain of that movie instead of their Baymax cashcow for some reason. my friends and i saw him show up in the credits and were like "who's the trenchcoat guy??"
you may notice that this list is very short and 50% of it is about the movie's credits. so yeah this movie is not very good
Wish is an empty husk of a movie. everything about it feels so, so hollow - lifeless town squares, uninspired character designs (to quote a friend: "i have all of these characters' hairstyles in The Sims"), characters whose existence is only justified to fill empty space or an overused archetype, and an "evil" villain who lacks charisma and spine in a futile effort to remind the audience of previous disney villains with actual character. even the artstyle lacks any sort of sauce, the watercolor effect they were trying to go for only makes the backgrounds and character textures run together, and the dull lighting makes things look even more faded. it's like disney was scared of making a movie that made its audience feel... anything. all to celebrate 100 years of Disney slop, baby!!!
Some YouTube videos I liked in January: 💥 An Exhaustive Look at Pokemon Brilliant Diamond 💥 TomSka's Guide to Plagiarism 💥 Paradise Bombed (this video is a great piece of journalism and i’m definitely not doing it justice by throwing it into the youtube vid list) 💥 Surprising Our Friends with Zoo Animals 💥 Did FNAF Ever Have a Good Story?
thanks for reading! next month’s roundup will be wild because i’ll likely be reviewing House of Leaves and Hazbin Hotel. can you guess which cursed house gives me a worse headache? WHO KNOWS! (hint: it's Hazbin Hotel)

Discounts
Plot: Billy helps you get into a movie cheap on Valentines, but things take a turn when you see another couple.
Pairing: Fake Relationship/Billy x BestFriend!GN!Reader
Wordcount: 765
Warnings: Abuse Mention, STD Mention, Cursing, Is Nancy Kinda OOC?? Idk, Some Angst but mainly Fluff.
Billy Icon
“Best friends take each other out on Valentine’s Day. That’s not weird, plus I want to get a couple's discount on that horror film, and we can play pretend.”
This was a natural occurrence between you and Billy. He often pretended to be your boyfriend to get you out of uncomfortable situations, but he’d never heard of you asking him using his ‘services’ for a discount. It made him laugh.
“How far is pretending to be together? Hand holding? Arms around you? Kiss on the cheek? Peck on the lips?” As much as Billy found the whole situation ridiculously funny, he wanted to know what you were comfortable with. The one person who understood him was you, and he couldn’t bear knowing he crossed a boundary.
“All of the above is fine.” You answered with a nod. “Nicknames are good too, you already use some for me. Just don’t use shithead.”
“Couples call each other mean names, it's realistic.” Billy smiled at you, and you swore he lit up the room at that moment. “Like you call me a Walking STD but I’ll have you know I get checked and use protection”
“But you did get chlamydia once.” Billy knew that would make it into the conversation as soon as he brought up your nickname, and he went bright red. Not just from catching it, but because he forced you to come to the clinic with him from nervousness.
“One time! Do you want to see that film or not?” He smiled over at you, the one person that he could take shit off, and they wouldn’t get punched or shouted at. You reminded him of home, the beach waves and the shells in the sand. Maybe one day he’d go back.
*
“Fuck, Jonathan and Nancy are here..” The two looked at you both with an odd yet shocked expression. Nancy felt betrayed as she had thought you’d tell her about your relationship with Billy, Jonathan was more so worried about you. Little to their knowledge that’s not what it was, but you could bet your ass that Billy would make one hell of a scene to make it realistic.
“Even better.” Billy muttered under his breath before wrapping an arm around your waist, making sure you were close to him. His hand was warm on the exposed skin of your shirt, you could tell what he was doing, but you didn’t seem to have a problem with it whatsoever.
“I would ask what chocolate you want, but you’re sweet enough.” The fake dating scenario was starting to make your skin go hot, as Billy was taking it much too seriously than you thought he would. People around you heard, people you knew.
He grabbed a few snacks along with the tickets while you took the drinks, your skin still hot from the compliment he gave you earlier. Following him into the theatre, it was nearly empty due to couples or mainly girls begging their boyfriends to see the romance film and not the horror.
“What about these seats?” You asked, but the dirty blonde shook his head and sat at the back. Of course, he did, you didn’t think anything less of him.
“I’m telling you Nancy, you won’t like this film!” Jonathan’s ‘whisper’ could be heard from almost everyone as they both sat down three front-row seats in front of you. A shit eating grin on your ‘dates’ face. But you both did the same and listened in.
“Billy Hargrove? Out of everyone in Hawkins, he’ll break their heart and no doubt them as well. It’s a breakup waiting to happen.” A frown formed on your best friend's face when she mentioned the very thought of him hurting you. It was the same expression he had whenever he discussed his mum, you being the only person he’d talk to you about her.
“Nance, do us all a favour and shut the fuck up before you wear my drink and your own.”
Both guys and your ‘best friend’ were shocked by your words, but Billy was more happy than shocked that you stood up for him. He usually had to do that, but he couldn’t do it against a girl, he made a vow ever since he first saw his dad first hit his mum.
“Thank you, for that.” He looked over at you with glassy eyes, and you swore you saw some tears forming, but you didn’t dare mention anything to him. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You don’t need to thank me, I’ll always be here for you. Always.”

Terminator 2: Judgment Day [1991]
Tumblr media
LISTEN I CRY EVERY FUCKING TIME it's just the best, ROBOT DADDY??? HOT MOMMY???? The T-1000 is so scary?? ALL THESE RIDICULOUS EPIC FIGHT SCENES AND THE ACTORS ARE JUST NOT EMOTING AT ALL BECAUSE THEY'RE ROBOTS? The director's cut with the extra scene where John is trying to teach the Terminator to smile and you realize when he does his little side smirk it's because he's copying John's smile, bc when he copied randos it didnt fit on his face?!??! Eddie Furlong's voice cracking which feels like such a happy accident because he's a weak little fragile human in contrast to the killing machine?? PLEASE.
Hellraiser [1987]
Tumblr media
IT'S WEIRD, IT'S KINKY, IT'S GAY, IT'S CHEESY, IT'S GOT PRACTICAL EFFECTS THAT ARE KINDA COOL BUT KINDA STUPID, IT'S GOT THE GRAINY 80S COZY FEEL, IT'S GOT INCREDIBLE FEMALE SEXUALITY AND BAD ACTING, I JUST LOVE IT. It's just a movie I put on when I need to relax and wow it just makes me really happy ;.;
Pet Sematary [1989]
Tumblr media
okay this one and the next one and the last one are all GRAINY 80S COZY FEEL, you have to understand that I grew up watching 80s horror from like the age of 5 so that flim look, the grain, the flat lighting, it just !!!!!!! gives me so much cozy fuzzy warmth for childhood and I just adore it. Anyway !!!!!!1 I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH it's so extremely dark and also extremely absurd, somehow it's so magnetic that you are immediately immersed even though it's got the aesthetic of a bad TV movie, it's just wonderful I adore it. ALSO a rare super faithful Stephen King adaptation!
An American Werewolf in London [1981]
Tumblr media
PRACTICAL EFFECTS MY BELOVED!!!!!!!!11 blah blah cozy 80s, but also! FUNNY! ROMANTIC! TRAGIC! SCARY WHEN IT NEEDS TO BE! I'm so deeply deeply impressed by the practical effects in this film, too! But wow it's so good every time, the hot nurse in this movie is a crazy monsterfucker I adore her, it's a good Armand/Daniel AU, the end is a gut punch every fucking time, it's the best, a naked American man stole my balloons, etc. Absolutely perfect film.
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain [2001]
Tumblr media
VISUALLY STUNNING FILM ABOUT AN ASEXUAL WOMAN WITH SOCIAL ANXIETY, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I think this movie like, changed my life maybe? I think I saw it when I was 15 or so and it just had such a huge impact on me. I used to watch it so much I would just turn the subtitles off because I'd get distracted and didnt even need them anymore. It's a movie I used to bring with me when I traveled, like I brought the DVD with me when I studied abroad because I was so scared I'd have anxiety or get homesick, I just always wanted to be able to watch it if I need to. IF I WATCH THIS AT THE WRONG TIME OF THE MONTH I CRY MY EYES OUT which is cathartic in the end, idk if it's comfy or comforting but wow. but wow really amazing film it's so beautiful and had such a huge impact on my worldview and my creativity and the way I write and the way I do photography and just !!! ;.; I'm gonna cry!
The Departed [2006]
Tumblr media
I really like it when Leo DiCaprio cries and he's not a super crybaby in his one but he does scream in pain and have the shit beat out of him and has panic attacks and needs anxiety meds! The cast is sick! The music is amazing! It's such cool storytelling!!! It's exciting every time! The ending fucks! GOD. Just wonderful, I love it so much. The Blu-ray starts over every time it ends so every time I watch it I tend to walk away and let it loop all day LOL. It's disgusting how many times I've watched it. ALSO MY BABE VERA FARMIGA WHAT A MILF god i love her.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall [2008]
Tumblr media
this is like such a perfect comedy for my sense of humor, INCLUDING A BONUS DRACULA SUBPLOT CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, but is actually such a clever and lovely story about getting over heartbreak wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this movie so fucking much oh my god. Also ever since I worked on ships I feel like especially potent to it because there's something about the social community within the resort that feels so much like the community of a cruise ship crew!! ;.;
Tagging (but no pressure!): @rugbertgoeshome @hekateinhell @mothmage @apoptoses @cup-of-lixx @somevagrantchild @covenofthearticulate

𝚃𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚂𝚞𝚗 𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚜 𝚄𝚙
Content Warning: Barely any plot, he's a gentleman, consent is hot, fem!reader, switch!König
Tumblr media
3RD PERSON POV:
Y/n walk out of the barracks in her citizen clothes. She's filled with the anticipation of going home to her actual bed and she can't wait to get home. She so tired from missions. She looks down at her phone when she bump into something and out of instinct she pulls back and punches whoever it is in the gut.
He lets out a surprised grunt as he falls down and gasps for air.
"Ow- What was that for," He asks. Oh shit its König.
"Im so sorry I didn't mean to do that," She says cupping her mouth.
"It's fine," He says and gets back up.
"So um König would you like to go for a coffee sometime so I can make up for that," She says awkwardly and scratch the back of her neck. Please don't hate me. She thought.
"Hmm... yeah, I think I would. How often do you get days off? I know that we'll be busy on ops so it might be tough finding a good time. You want to trade numbers?," He responds. He's already reaching over to his tac-pack, looking ready to pull out his phone.
"Yeah sure. I have next week off so I'll be at my apartment off base for awhile," She says.
He smiles.
"Ok, here's my number," He says. She reaches for her phone and puts his number in.
He types in her name, then turns his phone around and hands it to her. She puts her number in and gives it back.
"What do you like to do in your free time," He asks.
Without thinking words come out of her mouth.
"You," She says and cups her hands on her mouth. Y/n's cheeks burn red. "I am so sorry."
He blushes a little.
"Well, I didn't see that coming. I guess your moves are pretty effective, huh," He says.
She just accidentally hit on him but he doesn't seem to mind in the slightest bit.
"Almost always," She says.
"Almost always? Well now I'm curious about those times it doesn't work. What happens when it doesn't work," He says laughing.
"Oh I was joking I get what I want pretty easy," She responds.
He grins and nods before responding. "Alright, so it's an almost guaranteed yes when you ask? Just need to figure out what your type is,"He says and winks. He winked at her. He smirks and laughs.
"Oh I like my men big and tall," She replies coyly.
"I'm definitely tall but... big? In height or width?," He says as he flexes his muscles. She can't help but laugh at him he's adorable.
"So you think that you're my type huh," She retorts. He smiles and speaks again.
"We're gonna have to see about that," König. His eyes twinkle a little bit and she can tell he's smiling from his eyes. "Well, I can't turn down a pretty face, so I'd say you're my type too. Are you single or do I have some competition?"
"I'm single," She responds.
"You're definitely my type, so that gives you a pretty good advantage." He smiles. " Hmm, so what's your idea of the perfect date? Dinner? Movies?," He is still smirking. This is the most she's ever heard him talk.
"A movie night in with a good home cooked meal and snacks is good with me," She responds.
"Ooh. Do you like ones that are really scary? I'm always trying to find a good horror to scare the pants off me - those are the best kind. Or do you kinda like those campy movies that are more goofy? We could get some snacks, cozy up, and binge watch a bunch of them," He says. It's funny to imagine the giant König scared of a simple film.
"My favorite are the scream movies," She replies. She adds in quickly "I also kinda think Ghostface is hot,"
"Scream. That's the one with the "phone call from the killer" theme, right? I always thought those kinds of movies were kind of silly, but I could be interested if you watch them with me." He smiles and blushes a little. "So what do you think of guys in tactical face mask? Do those count?"He says while pointing at his mask. She turns red a little but answers him.
"I don't mind it. Oh wow," She says and checks the time on her phone."Hey I gotta go. Text or call me when you wanna come over for that movie marathon pretty boy."
He chuckles and leans in close to her.
"You got your work cut out for you," He whispers in her ear. "I'll be in touch." He smiles in that moment, then turns to walk away, looking back over his shoulder.
"Have a good one, pretty girl," He winks and chuckles a little as he walks.
****
Over the next few days they text constantly and one night they even called, both of them fell asleep. Both of them are starting to develop heavy feelings.
Y/n is in her kitchen washing dishes when she gets an idea to call König and invite him over.
He picks up his phone with a smile on his face. He takes a minute to clear his throat before answering.
"Yello? This my pretty girl?" He says with a light hearted tone. His voice is pleasant and calm. "How are you doing today?" It's clear that König's happy to hear from her and has been thinking about her since they talked last.
"It is. I'm good I was wondering if your free for that dinner and movie marathon tonight," She asks.
He smiles over the phone and looks at his calendar. "Well, would you look at that... I do happen to be free tonight," He says.
"Good because you're gonna get the crap scared out of you," She says laughing. "Be here at 7 okay," She adds.
He laughs a little at the way she said that.
"Alright, 7 o'clock it is. I'll see you then," He says with a warm smile in his voice before hanging up and getting ready for his date with his "pretty girl".
Time flies and before he knows it, it's around 7. He grabs his car keys and makes sure he looks good before walking out to his Jeep. In order to be on time, he starts his Jeep up and begins driving in her direction. He stops and gets some flowers. He pulls into the parking lot and he smiles to himself as walks up the stairs of her apartment building. He quickly jogs up to her door and knocks. As he waits, his heart is beating a little faster and his palms start to get sweaty. Is this girl serious about me? Or was it just a passing flirtation? He knocks again and as he feels a little nervous, wondering if he's come to the right place. She opens the door with a bright smile. He flashes a huge smile, happy to see her.
"You look beautiful," He says with a warm and genuine tone. He looks you up and down, admiring her overall appearance. He holds out the flowers and her smile grows a bit bigger.
"Wow that's so sweet of you," She says and takes the flowers from him. She steps out of the way and allows him inside her apartment. He comes inside and looks around. It's a nice place . "Y'know I didn't need flowers right. However I am not complaining about getting flowers from a cute guy.
He blushes a little from the compliment but holds his composure.
"Just trying to treat a beautiful woman with the same respect she deserves," He says with a light chuckle. Her face flushes but she turns around and goes to grab a vase for the flowers from the kitchen. He follows her and leans against the counter. "It smells good in here what did you cook," He asks as he crosses his arms.
"Vodka pasta and it's just about done. You go sit down, I'll bring it over in a second," She says as she puts the flowers into the vase.
"Oh okay," He responds and sits at the island on a barstool. He watches her grab the pot and a bowl of salad. She sets the down and grabs glasses and a bottle of wine. He can't help but be amazed with her. She moves in such fluid movements. Her shirt hugs her chest perfectly. Her jeans are tight on her thighs and her ass. His face gets red just watching her and he has to look away.
She serves him a plate of pasta and salad and then serves herself one. She sits down and pours them both a glass of wine.
"I hope you like it," She says before taking a sip of her wine.
"I'm sure it will be lovely," He says and grabs his fork to try it. He takes a bite and his eyes widen.
"Is it bad," She asks.
"No it's wonderful mein liebling," He says smiling at her. Her face flushes slightly at his words. She smiles back at him.
After they finish eating she leads him into the front room and they sit down on the couch. She puts the first Scream movie on. They get to the part where Sidney has the Ghostface mask on.
"Wow she's really messing them up," König says. She looks up at him. Sometime during the movie she got closer to him. His arm is wrapped around her and he's holding her close.
"Yeah she is. She's one of the best final girls in horror films," She says looking back at the screen.
"You are absolutely gorgeous." He says his hand coming up and stroking her jaw. His thumb drags across her bottom lip. Her face reddens but she leans into his touch. "May I," He asks leaning towards her.
"Yes," She closes her eyes and leans the rest of the way in. His lips are surprisingly soft. He tilts his head and deepens the kiss. Using his left hand he pulls her closer to him by her waist. She straddles him and wraps her arms around the back of his neck. His hands feel up her thighs and he squeezes them. They pull back and both of them are panting and both their faces are flushed.
"You're a good kisser engel," He says looking up at her. Her face flushes slightly more at the nickname.
"Oh shut up and kiss me again," she says and pulls his face to her and smashes her mouth to his. He groans and grabs her ass. She slowly starts to grind down on him. Her hips moving in circular motions. His breath hitches but he pushes up against her. He craves her touch.
"You're driving me crazy," he breathes out. She smiles against his lips before answering him.
"Good,"
"That's it. Bedroom," he says.
"Down the hall all the way back," She responds. He scoops her up and carries her to the bedroom. He tosses her onto the bed and she laughs as she bounces on the mattress. He walks closer to her and she pulls him all the way to her by his belt loops. His hand reaches out and caresses her jaw.
She unbuckles his belt and hooks her fingers into his pants she pulls them down. His gasps a little as the cool air hits him. Y/n reaches out and slowly starts to stroke him. His hand leaves her jaw and grabs a hold of her shoulder to ground himself.
"Ah," he groans and his head falls forward. She speeds her hand up. She slides from the bed down onto her knees. She takes her tongue and licks from the base of his dick up to the tip. She swirls her tongue around him before taking him into her mouth. His breath catches as he feels her do this. She bobs her head on him fast taking as much of him as she can. She looks up at him and his face is flushed bright red. He whimpers as he places his hand on her head. She uses her hand to stroke him as she takes him into her mouth.
The sudden movement takes him by surprise, and a little yelp comes out of him, "Wow..."
His head jerks back a little with the movement and then he takes in a deep breath and leans back in the bed.
He smiles a little and says, "I'm guessing you liked that?"
"You're pretty sensitive here." She says.
He sighs, "You're just gonna tease me, aren't you?" He chuckles and shakes his head a little bit.
"Maybe...maybe not."
He looks at her as she touches his skin and says, "I really don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything."
He laughs to himself and says, "I'm just really surprised at how this all went. I didn't think this would go this far."
She leans forward and licks from the base and up his shaft. She kisses his tip and swipes her tongue across his slit. She nods before taking him into her mouth and moving up and down on his shaft. His eyes open with surprise, his mouth hung open a bit, "Woah..."
He sighs and adds, "Well, you're doing that just right."
His face still flushes from the sensations and he's a little speechless. She smiles and looks up at him. Drool is leaking down her chin as she does this. He closes his eyes a little bit and enjoys the feeling, letting her do most of the work. He looks back back at her and smiles softly, "You're having a little too much fun doing that."
She mumbles something and it sends vibrations through him. He gasps a little and tilts his head to the side, not quite expecting this.
"W-what did you say?" He asks softly, clearly not hearing her right. He smirks again and laughs, "You can't mumble with your mouth...being all occupied."
She laughs around him. "Mm hmm," She looks up at him bobbing her head faster. He whines and tangles his hand in her hair. He starts bucking his hips up into her mouth. His voice fails him as he chases his release. After a moment he thrusts up into her mouth hard and cum leaks down her throat. He falls back against the bed panting. She smiles and swallows everything. Licking the side of her mouth to get some of the fluid that leaked out.
"Fuck Y/n," He groans covering his face his chest raising and falling quickly.
"You all tuckered out König," She says teasingly.
He smiles down at her. "Not in the slightest." He runs his finger across her bottom lip and pulls her to him by her throat.
"Oh?" She groans feeling her body heat up.
"Pants off now," He says. She obliges him and takes her clothes off. He lays back and grabs her thigh and lower back. She gasps as he rubs against her clit. He pushes her thighs apart and pushes himself into her.
"Oh fuck," She sighs and her head falls back.
"Mhm hmm," He groans and his hands squeeze her hips. He slides his hands up and down her thighs as she starts to move in slow circular motions against him. She whines as his dick rubs against her g-spot.
"König!" She groans and holds onto his shoulders as he starts to thrust up into her hard. She wraps her arms around his neck and buries her face there as well. She was drowning in the feeling of him Every thought she had was of him. How he looked. How he smelled. Everything. She was being consumed and she wanted to be swallowed by him. She wanted him. No she needed him.
"Y/n," He whines into her ear. God the way his voice sounded made her weak. His arms were wrapped around her as he thrusted up to meet her movements. "Y/n please don't stop...I'm...I'm so close."
That confession. That drove her mad. She bit into his neck marking him as hers. There was no way she was letting him go. Not when the way he touched her set her skin on fire and especially not when she was so utterly entangled in him. Everything before him seemed so fruitless.
"Cum for me König," She whispered into his ear tugging his hair slightly at the nape. His hands found her hips and his pace became ungodly. His voice becoming whiny and breathy as he chased his release. His hands dug into the soft flesh of her hips pulling her up and down on him. She groaned and bit down onto his shoulder. Her own release was approaching as well. That oh so familiar knot was forming in her stomach. Begging to snap.
"Y/n~," He whimpered and thrust up into her one last time. His fluid coating her insides sent her over the edge and her back arches as she hit her high. Both of their fluids leaked down her thighs. Flowing down to his v-line and onto the bed below. Neither of them moved for a moment as they clinged to each other.
"That was great. You did such a good job König," She said smiling at him. She felt him twitch and saw his face redden at the praise. She smiled to herself when she realized the meaning of that reaction. "You good to go again I'm assuming." She said lift his jaw up so his eyes met hers. He nodded eagerly with cheeks a slightly redder tone.
She pushed down on his chest and guided him down towards the bed. She smiles down at him. Unknown to her, he was enthralled with her as well. When her voice rang out and complimented him on pleasing her, he decided that he wanted nothing more than to do that. To make her his and to spend the rest of his life with her. This was the beginning of the end for them.

Movie Night 🎃
This was a request by an anon
Summary; Eddie and y/n have their first date looming and Eddie goes to Steve for advice on what movies they should watch.
Steve suggests horror because y/n doesn't look like the type to love horror movies and it's perfect to get a little closer to her...
Eddie has a funny feeling that Steve's advice might not be the best...
Warnings; Fluff, sweet Eddie, spooky movie night, first date 🎃🍁
I kinda like doing the Spooky theme right now. It's fun ❤🍁🎃
Tumblr media
🍁🎃🍁🎃🍁🎃🍁🎃🍁
Eddie was nervous about tonight. It was his first date with y/n and he desperately needed advice from someone who had experience in the area of dating.
This wasn't just his first date with y/n it was also his very first date, ever.
Sure, he had hooked up with a few girls when he travelled to various concerts or when Corroded Coffin had a pretty decent gig but dating? Shit, that was new for him.
He liked y/n though, he liked her a lot and wanted to get this right.
This is why he was currently heading into Family Video to get advice from Steve.
"Harrington? You got a minute?". Steve looks up and offers him a smile.
"What's up Munson?". He joins Steve who is sorting out videos into stacks.
"I just wanted to ask you for advice dude, my date with y/n is tonight and it's my first actual date, this isn't just some random hook up, I like her a lot. She's amazing and I want her to have fun".
Steve listens to him intently.
"Well, what do you have planned?". Eddie explains his idea for a movie night.
"Any suggestions on what we should watch?". He looks around at the huge stacks of tapes and feels lost.
Steve grins.
"May I suggest a horror? Y/n doesn't look the type to like horror movies man, Nightmare on Elm Street just arrived here how about that? You can both cuddle up, and you can protect her from big bad Freddy Krueger?".
The idea of cuddling up with her does sound very appealing.
"You think that will work?".
"Trust me, dude, let her cuddle into your arms, stroke her hair and distract her from the scariest parts. It's fail proof".
Why is it the second Steve says fail-proof Eddie immediately thinks something will go wrong?
🍁🎃🍁🎃
She arrives at Eddie's trailer at six pm on the dot. Butterflies swarm in her belly, she liked Eddie and wanted tonight to go well.
He opens the door and she feels momentarily stunned, (something that happens often around him) at how handsome he is, especially his beautiful brown eyes.
"Hey, beautiful". He pulls her in for a kiss and it's as perfect as their last one. Honestly, she could stay like this forever, if it wasn't for the chill in the air she happily would.
Eddie has set the place up with blankets and snacks, she spots the tape on the table and beams.
"Movie night? That's so cool". Eddie looks like he relaxes a lot after she says this and gestures for her to sit on the sofa while he puts on the video.
Nightmare on Elm Street was so good! She can't wait to see it again. Snuggling into Eddie's arms she gets comfy and waits for the movie to start.
🍁🎃🍁🎃
"You can hold my hand anytime if you feel a little scared okay princess?". He tells her softly and presses a kiss to her hair, wrapping her up tightly in his arms.
"That's sweet of you Eds but I won't get scared. I love horror movies". He gapes then sighs.
Fucking Harrington, he had been having a funny feeling all day that something would cock up.
"I asked Steve for advice on what film we should watch and he said a horror because you didn't look like the type to watch those movies and I could offer to cuddle you if you got scared".
She snorts.
"Didn't realise you had to be a specific type to watch horror? I love it. Halloween is my favourite but Nightmare on Elm Street is a close second. Nancy is so cool and Freddy's song? I admit that did give me the creeps the first time I heard it but I love it now".
Eddie is still surprised but thinks it's very cool. She is very cool.
"That's totally metal princess, wanna watch Halloween after this. Well, if you're having a good time? I know I am". He waits for her answer growing anxious
"The best Eds. I really love being with you". They settle back down, sharing a lot of kisses throughout the night.
It was the perfect first date for them both.

Perfect Match
Summary: Y/n unexpectedly falls for Ryan
Warnings: Swearing, Y/n is kinda gross not too much though mostly just chaotic, drinking
Tumblr media
There was no one in the entire high school who was as stupid and gross as the CKY guys, except maybe Y/n who was dumber and arguably grosser. She was every teacher's worst nightmare and weirdly enough every student's idol. Without a doubt, she was the most well-known student that ever attended East High School.
For her entire four years of high school, she hung out with these guys. They weren't as known as her, except for Chris Raab but that's only because he put shit all over the lockers and it's still talked about to this day. Y/n was crazy and did the absolute dumbest shit. She was most known for her parties and how drunk she got during them. The drunker she was the more likely she was to do whatever you dared her to. From jumping from the second story onto a table to licking Ryan Dunn's toe.
The only thing Y/n did that the others, besides Ryan, wouldn't do is let her friends give her stick and poke tattoos. Eventually, she got some professionally done but most of her tattoos were stick and poke. Her body was covered in dumb quotes and stupid images. They all thought it was funny and weren't shocked she'd do that. It seemed like every day she had something new on her.
At school, she would show up high out of her mind and not get caught. Which turned into everyone showing up to school high and seeing who would get caught and who wouldn't. Without even trying she was a trendsetter. Her style had a mix of everything it just depended on the mood she was in. Some days she dressed more feminine and other days she looked like a skater, sometimes she dressed grunge.
The music she listened to varied but for the most part, it was all metal. Occasionally she listened to rock and very rarely anything else. She didn't watch tv very much, too busy being dumb with Ryan and Bam, but when she did watch something it was something as simple as Ren and Stimpy or cheesy 80s horror films.
Y/n didn't drop out like the others, even though she wanted to. When she finally graduated she got a job at a local skater shop, thanks to Bam. She knows very little about skating, just how-to and a few trick names. Her main goal was to save up and bartend, so she was working and saving up for school. Occasionally she did some stunts for the CKY movies, but pranking and just completely irritating everyone was her go-to.
Ryan didn’t know what it was but he was hooked from the moment they met. Her natural ‘I don’t give a fuck attitude’ had him in a chokehold. He was so intrigued by her and wanted to know more about her.
Y/n was best friends with Raab and met the other through him. Bam let her hang out with them because she was cool and because he was scared of what would happen if he said no. She was beyond intimidating, which made Ryan like her even more. She could hold her own and didn't need anyone.
***
The buzzing of her phone interrupted her dancing and listening to music. Annoyed she answered it, “What?”
“Hey, Y/n. Let us in” Raab said and hung up. Y/n rolled her eyes and walked out of her room to let them in. Her music blared throughout the house. When she unlocked the door, Bam, Ryan, Dico, and Raab stood there. “Are you gonna stand there like idiots or are you gonna tell me what you want?”
“Come to LA with us to film Jackass. It’ll be cool trust me.” Ryan said
She looked them up and down trying to decide if it really would be cool. Y/n would have to call off and get someone to cover the bar for the weekend. “Alright. I’ll go”
And with that, she packed her stuff and got on the plane with them to LA. When they landed they immediately went to the bar to get some drinks. Walking into the bar Bam immediately went up to a group of guys Y/n wasn’t familiar with. The group of guys started to yell and cheer.
Apparently, Bam and Ryan always brought up Y/n any chance they could. Having a girl who was just like the Jackass guys was something they loved to brag about.
The guys came up to her and introduced themselves. “I'm Steve-o” He stuck his hand out. “Y/n” She shook his hand.
“I don’t wash my hands”
“Neither do I” Steve-o erupted in laughter not expecting that kind of response.
Throughout the night Y/n talked to the Jackass crew and drank. Keeping up with them with no problem. They all got to know Y/n and listened to countless stories that Raab and Dico loved to talk about. Like messing with the teacher's cars and pulling pranks in the hallways and bathrooms. Bam liked when she got fired from multiple jobs because of his own pranks. Ryan hadn't made a comment on it, but he loved everything she's done.
By the end of the night, which was early morning, everyone was drunk and stumbled to their hotel rooms. Ryan kept his arm around Y/n holding her up as they walked. When she looked up at him she saw him differently. Maybe it was his friendliness; the way he made sure to get her Advil and water and offered to hold her hair back if she needed to throw up. It was a new kind of consideration he hasn’t had for her before and it was in that moment she realized that she might like Ryan a little more than a friend.
Later in the morning, Y/n was rudely awakened by everyone storming into her room. Her spare key was taken and used to her disadvantage. She grabbed the comforter and pulled it over her head, “Get the fuck out!”
“Get up Y/n we have to film” She could hear Bam rolling his eyes and getting impatient. Y/n sighed and got up.
On set, Y/n baked in the warm sun. Watching the skaters attempt to do the wooden loop that stood before her. It was entertaining, to say the least but she needed some way to cool down. Even in shorts and a bikini top, she was burning up.
Ryan stood beside her watching Bam go again. “Dunn, I’m sweating my balls off. Let’s go in the water.” He let out a chuckle and nodded, “Alright alright. C’mon”
They both went down to the shore and put their feet in the water. Y/n leaned down to put some water on her arms and legs. Ryan was too busy looking over to watch the Bam skate down the ramp to notice that Y/n was staring trying to figure out how she now viewed him. Before she could give it a deeper thought, she decided she should push him in.
She stood up all the way to figure out to do it without him knowing. The movement made him look over at her. She smiled at him and moved closer. Her arm moved to wrap around his lower back, which wasn’t unusual for them. Before she could wrap it around him she quickly pushed him from behind. Ryan was completely caught off guard.
Y/n leaned over and laughed. He stood up and started to walk back while she stayed in the same spot catching her breath. She had no idea he was planning on getting her back so soon so when he tackled her into the water it shocked her. When she got up from underwater she smiled at him. He returned it and started splashing her with water. They both laughed and splashed each other some more. As the sun started to set they both got out of the water to dry off and go out again.
It didn’t take long before Y/n was taking shots and drinking with Steve-o and Chris. They begged her to do something stupid and even made it a competition to see who could do the stupidest thing. The cameras were constantly out and filming just in case they caught anything good. They mostly stayed on Johnny who was flirting with some girl.
“Fine!” She laughed and stood up from the barstool she was sitting at. Y/n looked around the bar trying to figure out what to do for their entertainment. “Okay distract the workers.”
No questions asked they both separated and kept them busy. Chris flirted with the bartender and Steve-o was asking security stupid things.
With everyone distracted she walked over to the pool table area and stood on it. Before she could even do what she was going to do Ryan was throwing her over his shoulder and walking out of the bar.
“Y/n got in trouble” Chris laughed
On the way back Y/n kicked and punched Ryan as much as she could trying to get out of his grip. Being in his arms made her stomachs flutter, which was new. Ryan had done this plenty of times. He threw her on her hotel bed and tossed a water bottle at her.
“C'mon Ry! How are we gonna see what Chris and Steve-o do?” She complained.
He let out a laugh and shook his head, “How am I supposed to tell you I like you if I’m always watching Steve-o do what he always does.”
Heat rushed to her cheeks and she was at a loss for words. This made him chuckle. “You heard me right. I like you. A lot.”
“Ry-“
“Just go to sleep,” Ryan said sitting on the chair next to the window and turning on the TV.
***
In the morning, Y/n didn’t remember their conversation. She knew she was supposed to remember something but she couldn’t. Ryan expected that, which was why he said what he said. He knew it was not the right way to go about it so he was thankful she didn’t have too many memories of the previous night.
Back home everything went back to normal. Y/n worked at the bar, while Bam and the others would make their CKY videos and do their own thing. It was nice to be back in West Chester.
Ryan hadn’t talked to Y/n. He couldn't keep his feelings from her any longer but didn’t know how to go about it. There was never a good time to bring it up. He thought about asking Bam for advice but that'd be a dead-end so instead he went to Raab who knew Y/n best. Raab didn't have much advice except for be honest and tell Y/n whenever he could, so Ryan convinced Raab to tell Bam to throw a party. Bam had no other plans and agreed with no problem.
Y/n got ready for the party and waited for Raab to come and pick her up. The doorbell rang and she ran to answer it yelling at her parents that'd she was leaving. She was slightly taken back when Ryan was on the other side of the door, but went along with it.
"So where's Raab?" She asked as they drove to Bam's house. Ryan scoffed, "Already drunk and forgot about you."
"Why am I not surprised"
At Bam's he got out of the car rushing to the other side to open it for her. She thanked him and walked up to the front door with him.
"Ya know, Ry. I like you too. A lot."
His eyes widened and his cheeks reddened, "You do?"
She kissed his cheek and nodded before going inside to enjoy the night and maybe get some more alone time with Ryan.

i like the way you draw zeke's gashes and gore, do you like horror/have horror recs (any media)
As much as I like to draw mushy wholesome romance between two characters...I love horror to an almost unhealthy extent. It is my favorite genre of anything honestly (I have spent days binge watching horror films back to back to back on Netflix, even the bad ones)
I've never really done a recommendation list before for anything so I can only list my favorites that I could spend a day rewatching no problem. I also need to add that I am a gore hound and the gorier the film or series is, the higher my chances of enjoyment so please keep this in mind.
My FAVORITE horror films are:
Brain Dead/ Dead Alive: I need to state that this film basically has EVERY trigger in it and did not age well AT ALL in terms of some of the jokes. However, having watched it when I was young, it was a crucial part of me becoming a horror fan and I love this trainwreck dearly...for its special effects. Mainly just the special effects. I do appreciate how the film is kinda split in two. The first being funny zombie comedy stuff and the last half being...well a shit ton of blood and gore. Also it has stop motion in it at some points which I love as someone who also adores stop motion.
The Final Destination Franchise: Not recommended for the paranoid but I love this 2000s ass film franchise. The premise is creative as well as the deaths. I also love that Death is super petty in this series and refuses to just kill someone up front and instead chooses the Rube Goldberg approach to offing people. Plus the original voice actor for Kratos pops up in one of the films which is a bonus if you are a God of War fan like me. If I had to pick a favorite out of the franchise, I'd say it's a tie between the first and the last. HOWEVER, the last film is oh so more rewarding if you watched the entire franchise-I will not spoil why but just trust me.
Candyman: The original film specifically. It's so interesting how the antagonist is a living myth and is so poetic in his words that sometimes I kinda forgot he was the villain. I love his design and the fact this film deeply touches on certain issues and not just being focused on being a typical slasher.
The Haunted Mansion: Yes the...original Disney live action film with Eddie Murphy. I count it as a horror film because it was genuinely scary to me as a kid. There's still some horrific stuff in it now. I mean, you got the opening credit scenes leading up to a dude straight up hanging himself, the zombies looking like straight up corpses, A DUDE GETTING DRAGGED TO HELL. The music still haunts me to this day.
Nope: A recent addition but this is def one of the best horror films I've seen. It is filled to the brim with so many details that you don't catch on the first watch. Plus, the "spaceship" is such a well designed element that I still think about how it works and how smart of a concept it was. I love the protagonists in this film as well and the bit of humor sprinkled in. I actually enjoyed this film so much I read the script for it since it was online (which I've never done for any film before). Cannot recommend this film enough.
Us: This film is just a level or horror that I only feel when reading Junji Ito stories. The idea of a doppelganger never scared me until this film because the entire concept is your other self hunting you down to kill you. There's a murder spree scene in this film that is so well framed and done because you see both everything and nothing at the same time because of the camera angle. The Tethered are underrated as monsters.
The Thing: The old one with the husky dog. The original Among Us and the best "WHO THE FUCK IS THE KILLER" film. The special effects are amazing and the fact that the audience cannot tell who the alien is is so great because we feel just as scared as the crew members. Plus...the alien absorbing people is just straight horrific.
This list is getting long and I have so many horror films I got jingling around in my brain but my last one is Pet Semetary. I was gonna put Poltergeist, which is also a favorite and is the only paranormal film I enjoy (I am not a big fan of ghost movies but that's because I love gore and carnage), but I kinda...don't really see it as a horror film. It certainly is one but there's so many cute and funny moments and it's kinda more whimsical than scary to me.
ANYWAYS BACK TO PET SEMETARY-There's an unsettlingness to it that I can't really explain. It's not just the dead pet aspect, it's just the vibes in it. The happy music becoming twisted as well as the always foreboding mood where you know something bad is gonna happen. There's a couple things that are left up to the audience's imagination but there's enough context that you just KNOW something terrible happened (like that ending). Plus, the little kid actor going on a killing spree is...kinda funny. He's just a little fella with a knife having a good ole time before bedtime.
ANYWAYS-I'VE RAMBLED ENOUGH ABOUT HORROR FILMS!

Insektober day 8: Film Style (Horror)!
I always knew I wanted to draw something horror-themed for today, but I didn't know what it would be... I chose to parody Carrie in the end cuz the blood spill scene is horrifying but in a more sorta psychological way... and it is very easily translated into Insektors as I draw it!
As you may be able to deduce from the Koal Juice spilled everywhere... I don't want to veer into gore territory with my insektors art! I think with Insektors there's a lot more ways I can convey fear while also keeping it pg --or at least, the kind of pg you might see on an 80's/90's era film like Labyrinth or Antz. Antz is actually a huge inspiration for my insektors work if you can believe that! That movie is SO fucked up btw. good grief.
ramblings abt Carrie under the cut, since I'm thinking about it! warning for dysphoria i guess???
I know Carrie is kinda infamous for its theme of menstruation & that being tied to the horror of the story, though I actually find that idea compelling as a trans man--I think the idea of menstrual horror is interesting and frightening in concept, but I think it usually falls flat cuz its mostly like, cisgender men writing about it, and they don't really 'get it'. And then on the other hand I think its simply not well explored cuz your average woman just doesn't find that sort of thing scary at all lol-- how could they when it's just a mundane and normal thing that happens every month? And that is valid.
It is scary to me personally because its uncontrollable and its essentially your body betraying you once every month, or worse, just completely randomly ! It's the lack of control over your body and your life that gets me I think. less like "lol isnt it scary women have periods" and more "isnt it scary that your body does this thing that hurts you and destroys you and you have no way of stopping it". Maybe we should have more transmasc authors writing horror? or maybe I've been looking in the wrong places and there are a shit ton I have never heard of!! Maybe both!
sorry abt going on a long rant on a post abt funny bugs! also, did you know drawing dripping fluids is very difficult for me? it is! I like the second panel more than the first because the koal juice arrangement (??????) feels more realistic to me. Anyways im taggigng this with spcopophobia cuz I drew Aelia's eyes kinda scary in that second panel. I will take any opportunity to draw a character with scary eyes LOL.

oh boy this story buckle up
so small confession I didn't predict the queen's death per se?
like I didn't say oh the queen will die soon lol then she did it's more complicated than that? it's kinda hard to explain what happened exactly? (or at least I'm having trouble explaining it)
also disclaimer: my memory is kinda shit so take what I say with a grain of salt
sooooooo this all started last year when I ended up in possession of an overpriced deck of playing cards and didn't know what the fuck to do with them
I was talking about these cards in a discord vc and an online friend of mine (who is a witch) told me about cartomancy (I think that's how it's spelled) which is basically tarot but with playing cards
now I've always been interested in paranormal and witchy shit so the idea that I could tell the future with playing cards defiantly caught my attention plus I seriously had no idea what else to do with these cards
after she explained it a bit and sent me an article that had a chart with some common meanings for the cards I really wanted to jump in heads first so the next day I ended up dragging an irl friend of mine into testing this out
now the idea of asking questions to an object and getting answers wasn't new to me
in middle school my friends and I would ask the small milk cartons we'd get with our lunch questions then flip it (kinda like a milk magic 8-ball) and we'd mess around with other silly fortune telling things
so jumping into this we both thought it was just a fun little thing to fuck around plus we were only doing a yes or no spread (you pull one card positive meaning means yes negative means no)
for the most part we asked actual questions (will tomorrow be a good day? will I find love soon? etc etc) until my friend asked FOR SOME REASON will the queen of england die next year?
I don't fucking know WHY he asked this but he did and when we pulled the card and got a no
THEN MY DUMBASS ASKED IF SHE WOULD DIE SOONER AND IT SAID YES
now since we didn't know she was actually gonna die a few days later this we laughed our asses off thinking lol what a funny quirky turn of events but that's not gonna happen right? RIGHT!?
WELL CUT TO TWO DAYS LATER AAAAAND THE QUEEN'S FUCKING DEAD
to say we lost our shit is a bit of an understatement
so yeah I guess it was more we fucked around and found out and the queen was collateral damage???
the silver lining of all of this is that lead me to look more into cartomancy (yes I really did fuck around with PREDICTING THE FUTURE and didn't know that much about it other then the info my friend told me which wasn't much since she only knew vaguely about it cause she focused more on tarot yes I would 100% die in a horror film) and later tarot
I still have the deck of playing cards btw (after all of that they were finally worth the price lmao)

Renfield Review.
A cacophony of horror that might be too much for some audiences but just enough for die hard Dracula fans
Renfield was good, it was basically the movie kick ass with dracula elements in it. I didn't watch any trailers so I was pleasantly surprised. I wish Nic Cage came out more but when he was on screen it was fangtastic lol He was definitely the right choice for the role. He brings all the eccentric and weirdo vibes an immortal blood sucker should have. Sexy and creepy, perfect casting. It's almost a shame because he completely overshadows everyone else. Nicholas hoult did a good job carrying the film, he definitely has that everyman energy who you wouldn't expect to fuck shit up. Reminiscent of films like kick ass, and upgrade, I actually got zombieland vibes from this. Similar humor and tone. I thought he fit the role well but I think any other British dude would've worked. Andrew Garfield would've been amazing at this actually. Awkafina, I love you girl but literally anyone could have been in this role too. She is spunky, she's got moxy, she's funny but shes just fine. Not a very memorable performance which is not really her fault, I didn't walk into this expecting any Oscar winning performances. Overall the acting was adequate, you won't get bored watching any of these guys I promise. Maybe I'm being a little dramatic but that's how I felt.
I feel like if this came out right after Kick-Ass it would've enjoyed a far greater audience and more people would be into the tone it has to offer. However, today I could see why this movie is a little polarizing. Some of the writing feels outdated, like that Jennifer Lawrence film that's coming out or that hangover 3 film but with women. A lot of people are gonna like it, like myself, but I think a lot of people might walk out feeling confused about what exactly this movie was trying to be. It's funny but not haha funny, it's scary but not heart attack scary. It has a romance but it doesn't compel me. It's an action film but it doesn't compete with the monster known as John Wick which is currently dominating the box office. Again, I liked this movie but it wants to do too much at once. A longer run time might have helped that but then you risk boring the audience. It's tricky, I feel it barely held together as it is and quite frankly can't think of too many ways to change this film, aside from more Dracula.
I thought an interesting idea was Dracula as a mob boss which barley gets explored but it was cool nonetheless. Very gorey, but it fit the tone. Renfield needed more development, I would've liked to see a bit more of his back story and more of him being a pathetic freak but it was fiiiinnnne. At 1 and a half hours I would've appreciated a longer run time, I was down for 2 hours of this but I can see why it was kept short. Very snappy pacing, very light hearted, the sentimental bits just didn't land at all lol but I understand that it just didn't fit the tone. Wonderful practical effects, CGI was ok, get ready for mortal Kombat levels of violence. Pretty cool cinematography, the colors and overall aesthetic, wardrobe, OMG I was in love, this is the kinda stuff I wanna draw. Neon lighting, fashionable clothing, the creepy production design. I don't want to say this film is all style and no substance. The story works fine, the heartless dracula gets a servant, the servant grows a heart, shenanigans ensue. It's serviceable, no glaring plot holes, i barley cared for the titular character or the main cast, Dracula really steals the show and that's forgivable, I mean it's Nicholas fucking Cage lol the rest of the performances are perfectly fiinnne.
TLDR: Renfield is an enjoyable movie, really cool fight scenes, humor that borders on immature and edgy, nice aesthetic if you're into goth stuff and neon lighting. Very violent. Not a very compelling character study but it is worth experiencing all the bloody horror on a big screen. If you're looking for a Dracula movie this will scratch the itch but simultaneously make you want to seek out other vampire flicks. I was left wanting more but considering this movie is named after the servant and not the dark lord himself, I suppose I was a little at fault for not tempering my expectations.
I would say check it out while it's in theaters if you like Dracula but definitely throw it on for this Halloween when it's available at home.
I know my followers aren't used to this kinda post, but fuck it we ball.

I would love to see a list of movies from the last five (or ten or fifteen or whatever) movies that you've really loved, if you'd wanna share it? I definitely agree with you re: people decrying how "all modern movies are just CGI fests" because THERE IS SO MUCH VARIETY OUT THERE, you just gotta look around a bit! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
thank you for this ask! i love talking about my opinions <3
in terms of movies from the past few years:
We're All Going To The World's Fair (horror-adjacent new media trans* coming-of-age)
Titane (trans-adjacent black comedy/body-horror gore fest/found family drama. sweet, and even sweeter in the context of how fucking weird and uncomfortable it can get)
Memoria (a movie as a space to occupy. sound design as narrative thrust. a thought you can't get out of your head (a trepanned skull found during the construction of a highway). the impossibility of communication, and the importance of it regardless)
Everything Everywhere All At Once (generational trauma, the deep complexity of a fraught but loving mother/daughter relationship when it is also first/second gen immigrant, and straight/gay. butt plug fight scene. sausage fingers made me cry in the theater)
The Humans (horror sort of? psychological drama. funny. the house is a major character & Amy Schumer is sympathetic)
Drive My Car (slow bittersweet meditation on grief, performance, and human connection) & Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy (Hamaguchi made 2 movies in 2021????how. but again: human connection, and the space a narrative can make for us, the words it can give us, a plainspoken honesty and room for your regret and anime blu-rays)
maɬni – towards the ocean, towards the shore (essay-film. language, myth, nature, and community)
Bacarau (surreal genre-mash town-under-siege story. Udo Kier as the personification of western colonialism. idk how to summarize this one it is A Lot, 10 pounds of movie in a 5 pound bag)
Lover's Rock (music, community, the casual intimacy of a house party. beautiful, joyous little thing. all of Small Axe is good but this especially)
Shirley (a good biopic? again, not-quite-horror...creation, invasion, psychosexual weirdness. the terror of being seen/the seduction of seeing)
laying it all out you can def see what my tastes are lol. & there's been a fair amount of 'really liked it but either the affection faded or it never bumped itself from Really Like to Love'. Faya Dayi, Macbeth, The Night House, Candyman, Annette, Swan Song....also some things i like bc i think the actor is super hot (Green Knight, Who You Think I Am).
i actually don't mind CGI-heavy things or at least feel like the fault is in the execution and intent, not the media. i really liked Matrix: Resurrections for ex, but even things that ARE resolutely slick theme park rides with zero "redeeming values" & filmed entirely with the world's most alienating green screen can be good theoretically i just think MCU etc gets bogged down in shit that is supposed to make you care about the characters but never does. a parallel universe MCU where every movie is like 90 minutes, has no serious continuity, and exists just so we can watch superheroes fighting supervillains sounds kinda dope actually

an incomplete list of fucked up horror movies i have watched in the last 2 weeks:
1. the baby (1977) - this feels like a fetish film with some melodrama scraped into the corners, but the slowly building horror eventually eats the whole film, & i couldn't look away by the end. incredibly *weird*, & i recommend it with the caveat that it *will* make you wince at least once, either from embarrassment or from... well. it is a Lot. i don't know what about it SPECIFICALLY gave me such intense heebie jeebies, but ye gods did i get 'em.
2. mad god (2021) - this... do not watch this. or like... do, if you have an interest in practical effects, stop motion, & a really strong stomach. it is the singularly most disgusting thing i've ever seen (complimentary), & also one of the most nihilistic, depressing, offputting things i've ever seen (also complimentary... sort of). i was high off my tits when i watched this & also sad as heck, & the ridiculous horrible nature of it all hit this point of *absurdity* - you know not to hope anyone will get out of this in one piece, so if you see something nice/sweet happening, don't even expect it to go anywhere but someplace horrible. first movie to make me physically gag, can still make me do so by thinking of One Particular Bit. 1000/10, will not ever watch again
3. Parents (1989) - kept me up at night, flat out. there's a hyper-real feel to this film, like the beginning of edward scissorhands, or one of those really glossy old commericals. a podcast i was listening to referred to it as "mundane horror" & that's kind of where it lies - a lot of questioning our protagonist, & it can be very hard to tell dream from reality, & everything was done well enough that the Big Reveal actually felt like a Big Reveal. whole movie felt a littel bit like a metaphor for coming to grips with growing up privileged, but idk, i may be overthinking. this movie terrified me, on some deep, visceral level that i can't explain, & i'm gonna be poking that for days.
4. The Night of a Thousand Cats (1972) - still not entirely sure if i hallucinated this one or not. surreal in a way that is surprisingly boring, & i couldn't entirely look away just because... well, i wanted to know what would happen next, or to see if i could make ANY sense of it. not very nice to the cats, tho.
5. Antrum (2018) - this one was really funny to watch as someone who watches a ton of 70s horror, since chunks of it were very clearly trying to be seventies horror, & it didn't make it look shit enough. another one of those weird movies that gets under your skin unexpectedly. the vibes of this one seem to build & build, & the whole thing has a trippy, dreamy atmosphere i super dig. the framing device is kinda dumb, but i am a sucker for a dumb framing device.

Horror movie asks, 18 and 21?
Hey! <3
18. What are your thoughts on Halloween (the holiday)?
Hmm, I don’t know. It’s alright I guess? I’m not usually the one for celebrations and stuff, but dressing up and celebrating Halloween once a year with my good friends isn’t so bad. <3 Obviously it isn’t such a huge happening here, as it is in America, but it’s still a cool tradition. 🧛‍♀️
21. Name the top five WORST horror films that you've sat through.
Oh gosh, this is gonna be tough. D: I don’t know if I can even remember all of them. I’ve watched so much garbage throughout the years.
1. Pandorum (2009)
Tumblr media
All I can remember from this movie is... absolutely nothing. :D Except that me and my best friend were watching this on our hangover day (I think), and we were both dozing off every once in a while and had absolutely no clue what was even happening in this movie at times. Maybe if we’d watched it less tired, I might feel differently. But considering that it couldn’t even keep us awake... what kinda horror movie is that anyway?
2. Bad Taste (1987)
Tumblr media
This movie was not only incredibly unpleasant and disgusting to watch (vomit-eating aliens ftw), it was also really boring and just... bad. What a fitting name. XD My (ex) fuckbuddy actually picked this movie for our “date night” to watch and basically he kept laughing at it while I just kept staring at the screen, like “.... mmkay”. Sometimes I think my sense of humor is too twisted and dark, but not this twisted and dark apparently. :’’’’D This movie left a bad taste in my mouth.
3. Alien: Resurrection (1997)
Tumblr media
Look, I love the Alien trilogy. The younger me was crushing on Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. Not to mention younger Winona Ryder is 👄.
But this movie is just... garbage. It’s just another poor attempt at a sequel, completely pointless and forgettable. Not even these two ladies could save it, I’m sorry.
In fact the only time I actually freaked out during this movie, was when they suddenly showed a close-up shot of Brad Dourif’s face on the screen. D: he scares me sorryyyy~
4. Bats (1999)
Tumblr media
*sighs* One of these movies that I suffered through for an actor (Lou Diamond Phillips) and it isn’t even remotely scary. D: You know, sometimes horror movies are so bad that they’re actually good, but Bats isn’t even that. It’s just bad. It is absolutely ridiculous, but not even ridiculously funny. I don’t know what I expected, honestly. :D
5. Prom Night (2008)
Tumblr media
This movie was so shit. It was so shit and so annoying that I actually recall it making me angry lmao. It’s one of those stupid high school slasher horror movies that is so full of cliches, so predictable and so not scary. At all. Just annoying as fuck.
---
I was gonna add a couple of other b-rated “horror films” here, but I can’t for the life of me remember their names anymore (:D), so.... here’s my top five I guess.

Me if my social life would have started out by meeting some kind of aloe vera plant in human form who somehow really can’t handle the heat (ok but to what extend here...) to the point you have to larp pilotwing 64 with him every so often (ok seriously did anyone ever had fun playing that game? What was even the point of this shit? Will anyone explain? I mean not the point of the game, that’s rather simple, but how is it supposed to be fun?) to catapult him in the nearest frozen water spot so he doesn’t go pink too fast (If your plant goes pink, too much sun, too much heat, yes it’s cute but it doesn’t like it). Some heir with a grifter attitude films that shit and earns credit all the time (But he’s handy, but...beware). At some point accident happens (I mean I don’t really know to what extend these things can be controlled, and the one behind the blows is only like what 11, 12 (? not gonna look up) here, so skill issue mainly. The only acceptable teacher in his gentrified school takes the blow, school will be shit. But then surprise, your plant friend remind you that not only you can pilotwing (like shit) but you can also just try to ctrl-x ctrl-v your mistakes, that may work. It works but seems she had much unaddressed pent up anger issues and these kids don’t want to deal so they send her to magic jail (unexplained), also like regular jail it seems that just throwing someone in some space doesn’t reform them all that much (we’ll come back to that part in due time). So once that gets sorted out, bullshit should happen, right? No, instead some military family (with a cool band) just bring you in to make a pun. Unfortunately he passed away probably not too long (probably not even long enough to finalize adoption and immigration papers, kiddo had to file up his own shit on his own because there was no way he was staying there when the dude from the band from the t-shirts really want to make you quit your boring life, no, no) so yea, he did quit his hometown (with some plant who somehow was in the band, I mean what was he doing here? But he doesn’t really like blue monday that much, bizarre love triangle is way catchier) with 25% less joy, and not that much more money in his pocket (maybe royalties, maybe very very residual royalties when he’s probably not even officially on papers and the concerned people just sort of treat him like some joke whenever they meet, awkward), but then he commits to the joke: he keeps trying to do a ctrl-c  ctrl-v on content that already has been discarded. In context it’s really frustrating. Out of context it looks like chill out and get over it I mean the staff was probably really tired out of their mind with all the casual body horror they had to witness by the day (many redacted events happen here). The plant think it’s kinda chill. So chill he even forget heat issues. The grifter barely mentioned up above decide it’s getting annoying and that maybe instead of trying to bootleg things and fail maybe you should go start collecting stuff and cause war crimes under the name of the law and patriotism and stuff. Apparently it’s more ethical. Blue lives matter, dude. Naive as he is he just signs and accept whatever is presented at the moment. Fuck his life. At least you still have your little potted plant home, uh? He will follow you? No way, that person knows the heist, he knows he can’t care about anyone and that he will have to always be down and ready to run at the very moment the heat can be felt around the corner, so he scrammed. So now our perfect boy is all alone hoarding shit he seizes (and probably using it to what remains of his heart content) while his friend just about to own the counterfeit market from absolutely every angles imaginable. I mean, I wouldn’t give a fuck about saying that to the emperor if he fucked my life up so bad by convincing me that it would be funny to play pilotwing 64 with a plant for clout. What is he going to do as a response? Shoot him? As if that would make his life worse (Ok it’s rather melodramatic considering that 97% of what happened was just being too chill with people with no commitment other than perpetually making the worst choices they can make?)
So what choices is there to make here but to go back to that one time he lost control of the neopet he forgot to feed for over 20 years. Nice gal to introduce your new pals to.

Midsommar
This film is so fucked up
(no pun intended)
Look, I don’t really like it. It’s such an overrated film tbh. But maybe that’s just me. Maybe I just didn’t pay attention. But the fact that everyone’s claiming it to be that horror film that would make you so disturbed after watching, I admit I expected a little too much from it.
Of course before even seeing it, I already briefed myself about the gory pagan cult practices of Midsommar (only in that film ofc, swedish peeps don’t do that irl because if they do then wtf), to be honest, they didn’t feel scary or disturbing to me—to the point that I won’t be able to sleep normally after watching it or that it will keep haunting me in my dreams. No fam, I actually just felt really weirded and disgusted by it. All throughout the time the characters came to Hårga, I just keep mouthing “the fuck?” when I’m expecting to say “WHAT THE FUCK!!!”. You get my point. Besides, Ari Ester’s (the director) customization of the actual festival is so, I dunno, sort of a try-hard cult film? It’s just so unrealistically gory and awful to watch. I didn’t even flinch to that part (WARNING: Spoiler ahead) where the 2 oldies jumped off of a cliff, and even hammering the head of one of them multiple times when they saw him literally still gasping for air after jumping. I immediately thought that it was so unnecessary and stupid.
Ok, so that’s one of the popular scenes of that film, the next and last one I’m gonna share is the weird ritual sex scene. Again SPOILER WARNING, stop right here if you don’t want to ruin your experience. So yeah, that scene specifically made me want to throw up, funny because that’s what also Dani did when she saw them doing it. I also saw this from a lot of people saying they didn’t find it disturbing (which is I think what the director/writer’s actually trying to portray, like it’s not really meant to be disturbing), it’s just weird and really really disgusting. It only got even more uncomfortable when the old woman started helping/pushing Christian lmao fr it was so uncomfy watching that but it was also kinda funny. I’m so unserious sorry.
If I’m going to be honest, the only really traumatizing scene is when they showed Dani’s family, especially the sister who killed herself (and apparently their parents too) from gas poisoning. Her sister’s exploded lungs and internal organs looked really horrendous and disturbing, not only the way it looks, but the fact that this is what suicide can make us look like. It’s painful and awful. Another passable scary scene is when Dani chose Christian over the Hårga native—who openly volunteered to be one of the 9 lives to be sacrificed. It could be the hippie drug, or the awful sex ritual, but the fact that you’ve known that person the most out of everyone around you and still choosing him to literally get killed is so sickening. Honestly, I kinda felt bad for Christian, I mean he really isn’t that a good partner to Dani at all, ffs he was also drugged and helpless most of the time they were there, but he still ended up in the worst position and it’s because of his girlfriend. But don’t be fooled, I kinda lost it again when they started putting Christian in the bear carcass lmao.
Uh, I think that’ll be all for my Midsommar review. I guess I can say the only thing I liked about it is the color grading. I liked that they didn’t try hard enough to make the setting look gloomy or dark. Doing the opposite ambiance which is that bright, colorful cinematography actually helped in giving it off somewhat another vibe of a creepy feeling. But if I’m gonna compare it to Hereditary which is also based off some pagan cult, Hereditary obviously wins. That shit really set the standard for American horror films. That’s truly what scary and disturbing mean in a film.
Final Verdict: 6.7/10
