Fave relationships in Once Upon a Time on Lingjian mountain
Wang Lu and Hai Yunfan
Their friendship (?) Is honestly so heartwarming. The way Wang Lu genuinely cares so deeply about Hai Yunfan, that he shares everything with him without a moment's hesitation :
His library privileges
His herbal bath
His master
And just generally being very protective of Hyf.
how Hai Yunfan may not have that much to give, but is willing to follow Wang Lu to wherever ?? I dig .
Tbh I headcanon Hai Yunfan as having a huge crush on Wang Lu but being perfectly content with what they have and not planning to do a thing abt it.
• Wang Lu and Wang Wu
Ashghsgsh. I just love the friggin chaotic energy. Despite her crazy antics she is actually very thoughtful and dedicated in training him. Still the bickering and verbal jabs never ceases to be funny hh even as he learns to respect her, and her qualities beyond what she shows the world. For now I'm not getting romantic vibes AT ALL even though obviously they will end up together. But like eh I don't mind, I'm curious as to how it will develop.
• The entirety of the Lingjian sect high officials ?
A sect that's based on inclusivity, and protecting your people ?? Sign me tf up. And despite the fact that some of them don't get along at all with Wang Wu but still all united for her when an outsider threatened her ?? Found family vibes much ??
• Wang Lu and Feng Ling
Gotta love the girl/guy friendship !!! They bicker !!! He gets beaten up !!! But they care for each other !! She trains him, and he protects her secret. Sometimes she feels like that cool lesbian aunt giving life advice. Gosh I love this
Actually I wouldn't mind there being no romance at all and just watching the adventures of these guys for 40 more episodes ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭

can you imagine being Essek and watching this tiefling on a total power trip turn into a 10 feet tall--incredibly ripped??--god and kill the boy you're catching feelings for?? And brand you with some kind of evil cursed hivemind magic you're worried might corrupt you forever?? This thing that your friends swear was once family, but all you see is something monstrous and otherworldly and tearing himself apart at the seams, screaming when all their loved ones call out to him??
Just. the way it must have felt to see Lucien go from that to. Just the most sweet and affectionate little tiefling. Gentle and curious and so full of joy and wonder. He's got the brightest smile and warm eyes and this mischievous playfulness. He runs off at first--startled, scared. But then once he's calmed, the first real word he says other than Empty is Love. And right after that he calls out for his Magician, for this man who did everything he could to save him, held him close and kissed him so tenderly on the forehead--
And Caleb throws his arms around Essek and Veth and just watches the Nein all descend on Tealeaf and embrace him amidst laughter and tears and Molly's starting to smile again and Caleb's so so happy just to see him finally alive and.
In that moment, Essek understands why they came all this way--

I do think there's something special about the way that audio drama creators seem to love including cameos of voice actors from other popular audio dramas. Obviously, part of the reason why actors from one show might pop up in another is because the audio drama creator community is relatively small and interconnected, and also because those actors are very talented.
But there's also often such a sense that creators are having fun with these cameos. Like Greater Boston casting audio drama heavyweights Briggon Snow, Zach Valenti, and Felix Trench as famous film actors Matt Daemon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Or Faux and Stallion having Tom Crowley (who plays a Victorian detective in Victoriocity) pop up as Dr Watson. Or Unseen casting Beth Eyre and Felix Trench as characters who are twins. Or Arden getting Emma Sherr-Ziarko to play an actor impersonating a character played by her former Wolf 359 costar Michelle Agresti (with Michaela Swee also appearing as an actor impersonating the other main Arden lead).
In these cases, it's not just that there's a cameo, but that the cameo is given particular (often comedic) significance to those who are aware of the featured actor's other work. The vast majority of people wouldn't recognise any of these voices. But by doing these very intentional cameos, these creators show confidence that a fair chunk of their audience will know these actors and enjoy the link. There's an awareness that listeners of one audio drama are fairly likely to listen to (or at least be aware of) other fiction podcasts, even when the shows in question aren't of particularly similar genres. Recognising these cameos feels like being in on a secret. It feels like these shows are giving a little nod to listeners to say that we're part of the same club.

"This is the fifth time today! Pass the ball to someone other than Hargrove!"
Aka, whenever Billy and Steve are in a room together, it's like everyone else just ceases to exist, and their coach is the first one to get tired of them.
