I've gone through four dorm plants in three months. My last resort is tempting Something to live in them and keep them alive. Any tips on who/what to call and who/what to avoid calling?
Before you go to drastic measures inviting something in, try leaving a little offering out for the brownies - cream cheese pats or creamer cups or a shot of whipped cream vodka - located conspicuously nearby the ailing greenery. They’re pretty competent with houseplants; just remember to keep leaving offerings even after the plants are in good health once more.

So I made @ayara012 mad at me. Because I sent her a rough version of this (warnings for pain and Rogue One spoilers): Before Rogue One's first and final mission, K2SO made a copy of himself and left it at base. He calculated the odds that there would be a member of the crew who survived (low), and the odds of it being him (very, very low). After the mission, he woke up and realized exactly what humans meant by the word "alone". So she screeched at me then fixed my grammar. ❤️

Hey, you know how all the Weasley’s have a hand on that clock that shows where they are?
Do you ever think about how Fred’s probably just sits over “lost” forever after he dies?

Hi! I was wondering if you had any LGBT book recs for an preteen/teen kid who enjoys dragons, without a focus on romance? I want to introduce my brother to the idea that not everyone is straight or cis without making a big deal about it.
sorry, that’s a bit too specific to me — books without romantic focus are less common, LGBT books without romantic focus even less so, LGBT books without a romance focus and WITH dragons… i got nothing
here’s some books i can think of that comply with at least some of what you’re looking for:
The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo. A collection of dark original and retold fairytales, some of which feature lesbian/gay/bi characters. Fantasy, so possibly of interest to him, but not devoid of romance
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. I haven’t read this yet, I’m only mentioning it because I know it focuses on friendship over romance and has a variety of LGBT characters. Contemporary, no dragons that I know of, sorry
Something’s Not Right by Yves. Collection of paranormal/urban fantasy short stories. Various LGBT characters. No dragons, but other magical things; some romance
Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. No romance, various LGBT characters, some rather bloody murder, fantasy elements
Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller. I’m unsure whether this counts as too romance-focused but that line is always blurry and it’s not a huge part of the book so whatever. Various LGBT characters, fantasy novel
In comics: Young Avengers comics (gay & bi characters), Lumberjanes comics (wlw & trans characters)
anyway..... pls add onto this! and hope this helps!

Hi! I just found your blog (via your awesome RMS Carpathia post), and I see a lot of references to your writing, but I can’t find any! Do you have a master post of all your posted writing?
There’s a link on my sideblogs page that also includes my RP blogs, but my AO3 profile is here if you want to take a look!
The vast majority of what i do here does not involve maritime history I’m afraid. It mostly involves gays in space.

Just a thought that makes me happy
Something I came across a few days ago, that makes me very happy to live where and when I do. I'm in the military- US Air Force Reserves. With all the shit coming from the White House, and worldwide politics today, a lot of people are unhappy with choices relating to the military. Keeping as big a military as the US does is tremendously expensive, and sometimes, a lot of people don't agree with where we get sent and what we do there. But here's the thing that makes me happy-- *they're unhappy with our government, not with the people following orders.* Vietnam, soldiers coming back got spit on. That wasn't that long ago. Less than a decade before my parents graduated high school. Today, when I go downtown wearing a t-shirt from my unit, every comment I've ever gotten has been positive; "thank you for your service", smiling curiosity about my job/where I'm from, or letting me know the shop has a military discount. Even the people who hate the US's military policy don't say anything negative to me. There's a distinction between those giving orders and those just carrying them out, and no one takes out their politics on someone just trying to live their life. I will always, always be grateful for the current attitude to the military.

...Did I just use the prints I bought at Otakon to build a very low-key FFXV shrine?

Cosplay Help pt. 2
Okay, dilemma #2 of my Nana Shimura cosplay for this year. @justabitfishy and I were talking this over, and between herself, myself, and my mother, we have three different opinions.
Nana’s cape is white. So a trip to Joann Fabrics had us contemplating three options:
A.) “Yaya Han 4-way ultrapreme”, which is technically cosplay fabric. It’s the lightest, and to me it feels kinda pleathery. It’s a matte white, so not shiny. It’s also the most expensive, but @justabitfishy likes how it falls and the fact that it’s not fuzzy.
B.) Velour. It’s fuzzy, but not super so. A little bit heavier than the ultrapreme. I prefer the weight and feel of it. Also pretty matte white. Cheaper.
C.) Crushed velvet. Even slightly heavier than the velour, and not matte, definitely shinier. Mom prefers the weight of it and how it falls over the velour. The cheapest, since we’d be getting it online.
I’m inclined to go with the velour, partially bc I like the fabric better and partially bc it’s cheaper than the ultrapreme, but opinions?

I thought you knew, after 4 years (when did we meet, again?) of friendship that I am an absolute asshole.
On another note, expect more questions regarding my app tonight.

Convo between a SU Newbie and an SU non-watcher
Me, the non-watcher, who knows only what tumblr has shown: “I like Peridot.” @justabitfishy, the newbie: “I haven’t seen an episode yet where she’s not an asshole. I know later in the series she isn’t, but for now.” Me: “Ok, I like her when she’s not an asshole. She’s like that trope -- the villain that becomes the weird uncle.” Fishy: “Uncle Iroh?” Me: “No, less nice. More confused by humanity.” Fishy: “...Zuko?” Me: “Yes!!!” Fishy: *snorts*
