Sixteen things I noted about the one-shot “The Adventures of the Darrington Brigade” :

Back when I was thinking of starting Campaign 1, I think this one-shot was just being broadcast, so I definitely remember seeing gifs and all. Wild to be thinking in retropsect about my own voyage into Critical Role...

Laura's dress is SO BEAUTIFUL, Marisha with her hair done like that is CUTE AS A BUTTON, and Ashley IN A SUIT ?!!! I'm DEAD !! Oh and the guys are nice too I guess (lol, no, in reality I especially love Taliesin's vibe)

THEY DID A KARAOKE VERSION OF THE OPENING !! HAAAAA !!! THIS IS SO FUN

Amazing characters all around, I can't pick a favorite, they're all so good. I loved the crowd's reaction to Marisha's description of her character, and the crowd's reaction to Travis' character goofy accent And I do wonder if Laura based Farriwen on a 1st idea for Imogen - or maybe it's just me ; but there's similarities : the hair (well, Imogen's purple), the decorated arms (well, Imogen are scars).

I'm so happy to see Lionel again ! (even if this is Matt jaegering). Love this funky bardbarian who was definitely a duck before Scanlan True Polymorphed him.

the initiation ? Same as that time Tary was iniated into Vox Machina... which is to say, a fight !! I love the cast's realisation that their past mistake is absolutely coming back to bite them in the ass.

How many instruments does Marisha have back there ? I'm amazed and in awe !!!

Sam as Tary, knowing full-well he's inflicting psychic damage on Laura : "I'm gonna hop on my flying broom and watch the action a little bit closer."

Macaroni Samsonite, about Damian : "You know what, Tary, I think we should take advantage of your rules and maybe we should call this a... BANISHMENT !" Damian fails her saving throw, and Ashley just leaves the table. Liam : "Oh man, we just got her back !!"

Sam is right, everything The OwlBear said is a one-liner, in the voice of Batman. Taliesin is so fucking funny.

I love Dotty's clear distates of Hazel... even though this robot knows only word, it is clear.

It's A GIANT DUCK MINI WITH TENTACLES ?? WHAT IS THIS ONE-SHOT

ITS NAME IS QUACKTHULHU ??? Matt this is too much laughing, my back hurts

Liam, about the mic that Ashley hit : "You just hit that like Marisha Ray striking an Irishman !" Marisha, pissed : "I hit you ONE TIME when you were leaning over my space, motherfucker !" (I love them so much)

I love Hazel's old-timey accent that slips sometimes in the strangest of syllabes, like "confusyion", "meditatyion", "inspiratyion", and I love that it gets ~worse~ and ~worse~(but hilarious !) during the episode.

So many puns this episode : about ducks, bears, owls, and stones passing

That was so much fun, holy shit. My serotonin levels are high, my skin is clear, my crops are thriving, etc etc. It makes its grand entrance in the top 10 of the CR one-shots, for me ! I hope Matt was not joking, and that someday they're going to do a follow-up.

Supernatural season 10 for free

At a gas station, they are attacked by a vengeful Adina, and a weakened Castiel is left near-death. Elsewhere, Hannah goes to visit Metatron ( Curtis Armstrong) in his prison, in the hopes of making a deal to save Castiel's life, but Castiel manages to stop her, insisting that she respect his choice not to save himself through evil means.Ĭastiel and Hannah continue their journey towards the bunker with Castiel growing weaker all the time. Cole, having learned about Dean's demonic nature, starts researching the supernatural, still determined to take revenge on Dean. In return for Crowley's help, Sam gives him the First Blade. Sam seizes the opportunity to capture the distracted Dean. Dean leaves him alive so that he will have to live with the shame of having been unable to avenge his father. Cole then ambushes the brothers and takes Dean on in a fight, but is easily defeated. Sam offers to help Dean become human again, but Dean is uninterested, having found a kind of liberty in being a demon and in not caring anymore. Realizing that the situation has gotten out of his control, Crowley contacts Sam with Dean's whereabouts to have Sam handle his brother. Meanwhile, Crowley and Dean have a falling out after Dean refuses to follow Crowley's orders and embarrasses him in front of his demon subjects. It is later revealed that Cole has let him escape, and follows him to Dean. He tries to torture Sam for Dean's location, but Sam escapes after warning Cole that Dean is a monster. Sam's kidnapper reveals that his name is Cole and the reason he's hunting Dean down is because Dean killed his father twelve years ago. Castiel, however, thinks it's a good idea. Afterward, Hannah reveals that she doesn't like the idea of angels taking on human values, as she fears it would lead to chaos. While Castiel is understanding towards the couple, Hannah is not, and a fight ensues that results in Castiel having to kill Daniel to save Hannah. Elsewhere, a dying Castiel ( Misha Collins) is approached by Hannah ( Erica Carroll), one of his followers in the previous season, for help tracking down Daniel and Adina ( Jud Tylor), two rogue angels who refuse to return to the restored Heaven, instead wanting the freedom that life on Earth gives them. However, Dean doesn't care about his brother anymore, refuses the deal, and hangs up, leaving Sam in the kidnapper's hands. Dean gets a call from the man, who demands that Dean trade himself for Sam's life. Sam tracks Dean and Crowley to Beulah, North Dakota, but gets ambushed by an unknown man (Travis Aaron Wade) who is also looking for Dean. Crowley confesses that he has been sending Abaddon loyalists after Dean to sate Dean's bloodlust. He eventually finds out the truth from Crowley after investigating the death of an Abaddon loyalist whom Crowley had purposefully sent to his death by attacking Dean. Meanwhile, Sam ( Jared Padalecki), oblivious to Dean's state, has been searching desperately for his missing brother. Sheppard)-partying at bars, singing bad karaoke, and sleeping with a waitress. In the six weeks that have passed since the ending of the ninth season, the now-demonic Dean ( Jensen Ackles) has been living it up with his new friend Crowley ( Mark A. A Supernaturally Marvelous Fic Challenge

Calling all Supernatural and Marvel fanfic writers!

I don’t know about y’all, but writer’s block and lack of motivation have hit me harder than ever this year. It’s no secret that 2020 has been a giant crap show for a lot of people, but our precious fics and fandoms can be such a great escape from it all. In an attempt to spread some inspiration and feel good vibes, I wanted to make my follower celebration something that might help both writers and readers.

Below you’ll find all sorts of prompts (dialogue, songs, AUs, etc.) because you never know what might inspire you. Since we’ve all had a tough year, there’s a catch! You’ve got to give it a happy ending.

Make it fun. Make it sassy. Make it steamy. But for the love of ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY please wrap it up nicely with good things and a “fluffy” bow. Cool? Cool.

Now, on to the rest:

As you may have guessed from the title, prompts can be written for Supernatural or Marvel (extra love and virtual hugs if you choose to write about Dean Winchester or Steve Rogers because they are the loves of my life. But there’s still plenty of love for the rest of the Avengers & TFW!)

Angst, smut, crack, and fluff are all welcome, but remember to give it a fluffy/positive ending and tag the warnings accordingly (Please steer clear of smut if you’re under 18. Stay young and innocent, babes.)

No limit to how many people sign up for each prompt. Feel free to combine prompts or even combine fandoms in a crossover! Whatever gets your creative juices flowing.

Send an ask with the prompt you want to do and the pairing you’re planning to write (life gets busy, so I’ll do a reminder post before the deadline if it’s helpful for you!). Reader inserts or OCs are both fine.

lol just kidding. I'd been tempted to just make that the whole post, but *kicks pebble* stuff actually happens so...

Sam is off the rails trying to find and save Dean, Cas is dying yet still doing everything in his power (wearing only his blue bathrobe of sadness in a seedy motel) to help. And after only six weeks with Demon Dean, Crowley is ready to trade him back to Sam and Cas and wash his hands of the whole ordeal.

WHICH IS HILARIOUS TO ME. I mean, Crowley thought Dean Winchester, of all people, would just... willingly come to heel (I typed "hell" instead of "heel" at first, but in this case, same difference so). Being a demon just made him... Dean without any of the caring about anything and finally free of his own conscience or attachment to anything, to just do whatever the hell he wanted. It's like a toxic combination of the TDK Slammer and steroid overdose.

CROWLEY: Really? How many suicide wings can you eat? How many one-hit wonders can you karaoke to death? DEAN: Okay, see, the deal was we howl at the moon -- no time stamp, no expiration date. CROWLEY: We've howled. We've bayed. We've done extraordinary things to triplets, all of which have been massively entertaining. I will treasure our Flickr albums forever. But now it's time for us to accept what we are and go back to work. DEAN: Pass.

*alcohol soaked karaoke montage*

Meanwhile, Hannah guilts Cas into helping her round up the rest of the "rogue angels," who hadn't done anything except refuse to return to Heaven. And we all remember Hannah has a thing for obeying orders. These angels really DID get a taste of free will, and didn't want to give it up. So it's up to Cas to show Hannah what humanity and free will actually are. Not just the illusion of free will she thought she'd had before, but true humanity.

DANIEL: I can assure you...Had he just left us alone, no one would've been harmed. HANNAH: His orders were to not leave you alone. And you killed him. DANIEL: And heaven sends two more. What is it about us angels that we can't seem to get the message? HANNAH: Perhaps it is you who has failed to get the message? All of us serve at heaven's command. DANIEL: I suppose. But that was before the fall, wasn't it? HANNAH: You are an angel, once and forever. DANIEL: Dropped unwillingly...Unknowingly...Into a strange land, a land that, as it turns out, celebrates the free, the individual. For the first time in thousands of years, I have choices. And with each choice... I begin to discover who I really am. HANNAH: This is nonsense. DANIEL: Because they don't teach you this in heaven? Perhaps they should. Then you would understand why it's worth fighting for.

But Hannah just can't understand disobeying orders.

CASTIEL: They just wanted to be left alone. HANNAH: Without rules, there is chaos. Out of chaos rise angels like Naomi, Bartholomew...Metatron. CASTIEL: Well, perhaps I've been down here with them for too long. There's seemingly nothing but chaos. But not all bad comes from it. Art. Hope. Love. Dreams. HANNAH: But t-those are human things. CASTIEL: Yes.

(yep, Cas is once again trying to teach poetry to fish, but this time he knows a hell of a lot more about poetry himself...)

CASTIEL: Thank you. Hannah, you don't have to --you -- you can go. You don't owe me anything. HANNAH: I know. But I want to stay...and help. [CASTIEL chuckles] Is that wrong? CASTIEL: No. It's just...very human. It's a compliment. HANNAH: Oh.

Sam goes truly ruthless in pursuit of what he wants-- to find Dean. Because he's always known this side of himself existed. It's why he spent so much of s9 in complete denial of this truth, while telling Dean over and over again he wouldn't have done the same thing to save him. Because we all know he would've, but we've always known it would not be pretty. We all remember 3.11, right? Travis Bickle in a skirt? Yeah, that guy. The guy that would literally drink demon blood and convince himself he was doing the right thing in the name of saving Dean or getting revenge for his death. That's how hard Sam can compartmentalize his guilt, that he could just deny that this side of himself even exists, because honestly, I think it terrifies him.

But Sam... when the demons stop responding to his summonings, he tricks someone else into summoning a crossroads demon, and the guy ends up dying at Dean's hands.

So that brings us to 10.03, and Dean's demon cure, where they both have to face a lot of their issues as Sam administers the demon cure. Summary of MomoCon Live Talks Machina Panel

Missed a little bit at the start!

Brian starts giving away prizes to anyone in the audience who snarks him. Many prizes are given away.

The party went completely off the rails on several occasions: the Fire Plane was a big one, because the party spent weeks saying they weren’t going and then went. Senokir and the initial encounter in the City of Brass was 100% improvised because Matt had nothing specific prepared.

Asked which characters they’ve voiced that they’d like to play in a campaign: Taliesin wants to play as the Flash, Marisha wants to play as Margaret from Persona, Matt wants to play as Kiritsugu Emiya.

Pretty much everyone expected Keyleth to win in the Battle Royale. She and Grog want to do a rematch because there were some minor technical errors throughout (the big one: he forgot his -2 on the save from the Water Plane). They’re going to do a “WWE-style one-on-one” game on Talks Machina. Brian: “We could put it on pay-per-view. ...that’s sort of what Alpha is, I guess.”

Percy doesn’t carry the Contract with him, it’s locked away so he can avoid temptation. Matt: “That’s fine. You don’t have to have it on you to invoke the pact.” (long pause) “No, you do, it’s in the paper.”

Matt thinks of Allura as his most self-insert character. He also loves playing Gilmore and Raishan.

Marisha’s fave NPC is the Sun Tree, Taliesin’s is Victor.

Questions to ask for making good NPCs: What are their goals? What are their fears?

A lot of being able to push outside your comfort zone as an actor involves getting over shame. Taliesin recommends singing loudly in the car, Marisha recommends karaoke or dancing in public. Taliesin points out that generally the reaction is pretty positive and not really what you’re expecting. But it does take practice.

Sam and Matt had been discussing Taryon about three weeks in advance, in case Scanlan decided to leave, depending on how conversations went with the party. Sam wasn’t prepared for Taryon’s introduction when it happened; he was expecting to have another week to prepare, but Matt tapped him in over the break. It took everyone a few episodes to get used to him. Everyone was a little nervous about the group starting new characters, because Marisha, Taliesin, and Liam were the only ones who had ever really played other characters in D&D, and they were reassured to see it was possible.

Taliesin: “A good DM knows the difference between consequence and punishment.”

Keyleth’s encounter with Kerr at a time when VM wasn’t being supportive of Keyleth changed a lot of Marisha’s plans for the character. She was very close to multiclassing into barbarian before that encounter. Taliesin: “Your current track is ‘be the Lisa Frank you want to see in the world’.”

Taliesin on how the original concept for Percy has changed: “Percy was supposed to never be happy with himself or the world around him. And... not anymore! He’s getting dangerous, something’s gonna snap, I’m enjoying it. All it took was a really, really inappropriate relationship to ruin everything, I’m loving it.”

Matt was sitting on the Briarwood Arc since Taliesin gave him the page of Percy’s backstory. He was sitting on the Conclave Arc for about two years before it happened, mainly because he’d never really had the opportunity to use dragons in Dungeons and Dragons before. 

Marisha: “Arguably, if there’s no adventure going on for Vox Machina, we’re just a group of shitty people.”

The arc related to the Siphon has been in the works since Matt was developing the Briarwoods Arc, so this new arc might be the one that was planned the furthest in advance.

Taliesin: “It’s not that we’re nervous about Grog having the Deck of Many Things, it’s that we’re nervous about Travis having the Deck of Many Things.”

Taliesin’s favorite arc that isn’t his own character’s arc: Fire Plane. Marisha and Matt’s: Raven Queen. Brian really appreciated the last parts of Scanlan’s arc, because discussing it brought him and Sam closer.

Another big DM improv moment was when Vex and Keyleth accidentally found Clarota way earlier than Matt expected. In the Moonbrush, in the Feywild, Matt really wasn’t expecting the party to side with the werewolves.

Sam, on explaining why he was late returning to his seat after the opening : "Just brushed my teeth again." Matt : "Is that how you keep them so large ?" HOLY SHIT MATT the roast is amazing.

Jester cast Dispel Magic on Nott just to see. Travis, as Fjord (at the beginning at least) : "Do you have chills ?... .... Are they multiplyin' ? ♪ Are you looooooooosing controoool ? ♪" Matt, who hates Grease as much as me, notes something on his sheet with a grim smile.

WHAT ? THE WOMAN WHO CURSED NOTT WAS THE SAME WOMAN WHO GAVE BEAU'S FATHER A PATH TO RICHNESS ?? Matt is really out there connecting the dots, huh.

Oh no. Beau really really really does not want to talk to her dad. She said it out loud. And her whole physical behaviour is extremely reluctant.

Nott's go-to song in karaoke ? "Sweet Caroline", but in Abyssal ! THIS IS SO AWESOME let me repeat myself, I fucking love everytime the cast bursts into song, and this was no exception !!!

There's the Leaky Tap. There's the Evening Nip. And now, because they're forgetful, there's the Leaky Nip !! Poor Matt

Marisha is amazing - yes I know you know - but the way she portrays Beau's fear and trauma about returning to a father that was never proud and always wanted her to change ! What an extraordinary scene with an extraordinary actor.

Matt's face, upon realizing that Jester has the handwriting of the Gentlemen and can now "Parent Trap" her mother and father if she wants to (she wants to), is everything.

Oh, how I missed a classic Jester and Nott mess-around (yes, I am referencing this brillant Tv show that was New Girl). Pure chaos !!

IT'S THE RETURN OF THE SYPHILIS BANDITS !!!!!

Meanwhile, Beau and Yasha are just drinking and watching all of this unroll from the hill, like the greatest tv show they've ever watched.

The long-awaited conversation between Yasha and Caleb delivered its promises. "Do you love her ?" "Who ?" "I don't need to tell you who" OH MY GOD !!!!! I don't for sure know who they're talking about. Either way, either Nott or Jester, it's a tragedy.

I love that Marisha plays Beau so well, and Matt knows her character and just her so well, that yes, the DM can absolutely say that the character is "acting a little bit like you first met her" without it being a stretch or not true. Because it is true, it is the vibe. Poor Beau. At this point I felt like the end of the episode was gonna wreck me, and I was right.

No words. Just eternal admiration for Marisha Ray. One hour of extremely tense familial conversation with an asshole father, taht was either abusive or "just" neglectful or both...

Love that on the way out, to support Beau and fuck with her shitty dad on the way out, Nott steals just anything she sees and Yasha threatens her dad and imply the loss of riches could help him remember what's important.

Matt, to Marisha : "It's so weird playing your asshole dad. It's a very strange disassociation exercise !" Liam : "I hope so." LIAM !!!!!

Marisha and Laura together on the couch is such a good combo. They understand each other so much.

I've said it before, but Talks like this, after emotionnal RP episodes like this one, is SO GREAT. Sure, they answer questions, but it's a little less for the audience than to process what happened.

Laura thinks Vex and Beau has common points "daddy issues and little siblings !" and thinks they would get along well together, and Marisha just adds that they would be like "the two head cheerleaders, that are best friends, but also..." and THE REST IS SILENCE while she gives her this look !!

i'm losing my mind. Dani and I went to the same place in 2 seconds.

1. What is your favorite thing right now?

Korean street food and Carly Rae Jepsen! I spent the last couple of weeks visiting Seoul with family and had a phenomenal time sampling the delicious street food. Fish cakes! Eels on sticks! Steamed dumplings! Spicy octopus! Roasted chestnuts! All the meats! But my favorite of all the dishes was the roasted sweet potatoes. I know! I know!  It sounds basic but TRUST ME. I have never tasted roasted sweet potatoes that yummy before. I had one almost every night. So, so good. As for Carly Rae Jepson, what can I say, the critics were right. When CRJ’s last album “Emotion” was released in 2015, the reviews were euphoric. I was skeptical. Fast forward a few years and I hear about it again from a close friend so I gave it whirl. WOW. The whole album truly is pure pop perfection. I’ve listened to it on repeat for the last 3 weeks and am no closer to being sick of it than I was the first time I heard it. Every song makes me want to dance wildly and kiss someone I like.

2. If money (and access) was no object, what would you buy today?

I would buy a house in Ditmas park with a porch and a backyard, and a place deep in the woods upstate New York. I’d go on a tasting tour of the best restaurants in every city in the world. I’d set up a B Corp and use its profits to post bail for anyone unable to afford it. John Oliver’s piece from a couple years ago really stuck with me and I dream of fucking up that whole system.

3. Have you ever gone on a pilgrimage?

I have not. But this question has definitely piqued my interest.

4. What is your Kryptonite?

Crispy Fries. I love potatoes in all forms—baked, mashed, boiled, you name it. But crispy fries have my heart. And as frugal as I try to be about most things,  I have a really, really hard time resisting beautiful shoes and expensive electronics.

5. What is your favorite time of day?

I have become a morning person in the last 3 or 4 years, so it’s currently a tie between my walk home from the gym and the moment right after my first sip of coffee. They both signal the start of another day and I absolutely love it.

6. Do you have a go-to "power" song?

Not particularly. I tend to fall in love with an album, listen to it obsessively and then move on to the next. In the last few months, that list has included MUNA (“About U”),  Paramore (“After Laughter”), SZA (“Ctrl”), Beyonce (“Lemonade”), Bruno Mars (“24K Magic”), Brett Eldredge (“Brett Eldredge”) and of course Carly Rae Jepsen (“Emotion”).  I do have certain artists I rely on to get through specific tasks. For instance, Ludacris and Lil Wayne when I need to focus on a tedious design project. And Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys and Celine Dion when I need to kill at karaoke.  

7. What is your happy place?

My apartment is my favorite place on earth. I am so thrilled to have a space that’s all mine that at least once a year, I take a week off just so I can spend even more time in my tiny, beloved studio. Nothing makes me happier than a whole day spent puttering around that shoebox doing whatever the hell I want.

8. If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be?

This is a tough one. But I’m going with Rihanna. Because, to quote Kid Fury of The Read, “Rihanna is the baddest bitch.” She is the epitome of IDGAF realness in everything she does whether it be music, fashion, business or just living. Men AND women want to be her and be with her. It’s been gratifying to watch her come into her own. She operates in a rarefied space but unlike many artists at her level, she looks like she’s having so much fun doing it. I love it.

Other women I considered: Oprah, Valerie Jarrett, Susan Rice, Condoleeza Rice and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

9. What do you think you do best?

To my friends, I think I’m a good cheerleader, emotional support system and sounding board. As for me, I am persistent—comes with a side of procrastination—and I handle myself with a lot of grace. I can sit still and be perfectly happy doing it; I’m terrific at keeping secrets and am pretty decent at keeping my composure in most situations. And, I make the BEST hush puppies.

10. What is something you do to cheer yourself up?

I’m a big believer in taking the time to feel the full extent of my feelings in order to get better. So if I’m having a bad day(s), I wallow for as long as I need to until I feel like myself again. Nothing like a hard, long cry; some journaling; a self-administered pep talk; a day spent doing whatever I want; and a heavy dose of super sad songs to lift the spirits!  

11. What is the best advice you've ever been given?

Nothing specific comes to mind but I do love a good motivational quote and have found them to be effective reminders of how I want to live my life. Right now, for the moments I beat myself up for not working harder or doing more with every free minute I have, I’ve been drawn to quotes that remind me that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.  That everything worth doing takes time. Sam Lamott’s June 5th, 2017 post on Hello Humans ended with a sentence I love—”Being unstoppable has nothing to do with speed”. He was speaking more to people battling depression and suicidal thoughts but I’ve repeated that line to myself every time I get down about not achieving some goal within a certain timeline. Just gotta keep chipping away at it.

12. Who would you like to see interviewed here?

The women in my life are just killing it. Small sampling; My friend Anna Varghese, director of the TED Prize.  Megan Haseltine, director at NYU Langone Medical Center, working to increase women of color’s access to breast cancer screenings. Courtney Mitchell, development director at Travis Manion Foundation, a nonprofit that empowers and supports veterans and their families. Janet Kim, a woman so multi-talented, she has fashion designer, painter, recording artist, and UX designer on her resume. Kellan Anderson, executive producer and partner at Harbor Picture Company, a powerhouse film and production company based in NYC. Emily Fleisher, the development director at Manhattan Theater Club, who turned me into the Broadway fan I am today....

51. My best New Year’s Eve ever was 2015. I went to an Irish dive bar called The Jeanie Johnston Pub with Travis, Dan, Jake, and Kenneth. We drank too much liquor and I bought a shot for a guitarist who played at my college once. He name was Sam and he was just ok. Kenneth bought everybody shots of some horrible fruit flavored liquor because he works hard but parties harder. Jake went home before midnight because “I really have to shit so badly.” Dan and I sang “Heroes” by David Bowie for karaoke which is over five minutes long which is too long for karaoke especially when an older woman named Brenda is up next and really giving you the stink eye from the bar.*

Kenneth started talking to two girls ‘cause that’s how it always goes. One of the girls started being mean to me but I guess it was sort of flirty? We found out we went to the same elementary school and high school but never knew each other. 

Travis made out with the girl Kenneth was flirting with (let’s call her Edna Mayberry), but Kenneth wasn’t giving up on his chance with Edna. Edna invited us back to some party. The girl who I went to school with but never knew (let’s call her Ramona Shelburne) seemed interested in me also going to the party and I was feeling uncharacteristically confident from the flavored liquor so I went too. Dan went back to his house because he was tired and had to pee. 

They were very nice girls. Ramona Shelburne made me do a shot of Bacardi 151 and I spilled some on myself and her.  When I was cleaning the rum up off the floor and kneeling at her feet I said, “well, will you marry me?” She laughed and that was lucky because that’s not a smooth thing to say when you’ve only just met someone. 

I really liked Ramona Shelburne and talked to Kenneth about it.  He said, “the best thing you can get tonight will be a blow job” and he was way ahead of me. Then Kenneth also said, “go for it, she’s cool”, because Kenneth could be supportive and degrading all at once. Travis said “go for it” also.

Edna, Travis, Kenneth, Ramona Shelburne, and I all walked back to our cars which were back by the karaoke bar. Travis and Kenneth are good friends so they went ahead with Edna and also I gave them my house key in case they needed to get in there. 

I’m not smooth so I got nervous and said to Ramona Shelburne, “I feel like we should make out later. Would that be cool?” She was taken aback and said, “I don’t even know what you’re favorite movie is!” which I thought was a cool answer and made me want to kiss her more.

We made out on Eliot St. next to a big mansion that I would walk my dog past in high school. Halfway through making out Ramona Shelburne said, “Who even are you?!” and I said “who are you?!”. We were excited and nervous and that’s a good combination. I couldn’t get her number because my phone was dead.

When I got back to my house Edna, Kenneth, and Travis were there. Edna was nervous and said, “Where’s Ramona Shelburne?” and I said, “at your house” and she left right away. Kenneth handed me a remote controlled helicopter he stole from a Tedeschi’s. It was a nice gesture. 

Kenneth did some blow and gave Travis a ride home. 

Later Dan told me he had gotten all the way home on the train right up to the door of his house before his bladder gave out and he peed his pants right there in front of the door with his keys in his hand. He said it felt great until reality sank in. 

I wonder what Ramona Shelburne is up to these days. I wish I could give her a call.

*Travis and I have tried to sing “Paradise By The Dashboard Lights” many times and they never call us up because it is so long and we have a bad reputation.

Talks Machina for Episode 82 highlights this week (now including the alpha stuff because I belatedly realized I’ve had an account this whole time, whoops):

Yes, Travis dabs in front of the camera before the episode starts. Again.

Before the usual opening, they play a ten-year-old video of a glasses-wearing Matt very enthusiastically singing karaoke. It’s kind of amazing. Matt is... so thrilled the subreddit dug that up. So thrilled.

Taliesin: “Thank you for running out the clock on my birthday, by the way. Thank you.” Matt, sunnily: “You’re welcome!”

There’s no particular card Matt wants to see drawn, but he hasn’t decided yet how far the material-wealth-destruction card would extend. He’s also interested in the card that makes an NPC turn on them.

Half the party isn’t even aware of the deck’s existence in-character right now.

“What made Kiki think it was safe to light the brazier?” Marisha: “Grog saying ‘YES’!”

Matt points out that it’s a lot more fun when characters aren’t too cautious, because you get much more entertaining results. The party had been very cautious for a while early in the dungeon-crawl, but at a certain point you just have to act to see what’ll happen.

Matt had an hourglass ready for a puzzle that the party bypassed (the stairs). Every five feet there was a check, and then whoever was on the staircase, the wall was going to shove them into the center of the cylinder and force them down toward the spikes. After that point, when the hourglass ran out, all the walls would’ve slammed in and knocked everyone into the spikes. It was pretty darn fortunate that they decided to fly down instead.

Marisha and Taliesin talk about how stressful it was to play Scanlan.

Sam gave Marisha and Taliesin some general texts about where Scanlan is in his headspace, and what to do in different situations, but they’re not going to share any of that information and are going to do their best to forget it as players.

Matt points out that “Modify Memory” would be a great brand name for tequila.

Matt figured the reverse-gravity chasm would be a neat visual puzzle that would be a spin on just having them cross a bridge, and then added a bunch of undead clinging to the bottom where, as soon as they found something living, they woke up and tried to reach upwards, which resulted in them falling up toward the party. Everyone else decides it may be time to insure Matt’s brain to protect it.

Even when Keyleth succeeds at something (like the grasping vine), it doesn’t really boost her self-regard---she focuses more on her mistakes.

If they’d hit the top or bottom of the chasm, they’d have been grappled and the DC to break the grapple would’ve increased with more and more hands grabbing and pulling them down, as would the damage taken as they got drained away...

Percy’s immediate and all-consuming reaction to puzzles: “I have to prove that I’m more clever than whoever built this thing.”

In a previous campaign run by Matt, Taliesin was the first to figure out that they were inside a giant skull. Travis: “I’m glad that was them and not us...”

The trigger for the glyph was a strong presence of magical energy. It was a powerful dispel-magic glyph that would’ve borked everything below it for about a minute. Marisha: “Laura would have melted.”

Brian: “It’s time for this week’s ‘Lord Have Mercer’.” Matt, in the background as the title card pops up: “Is this a thing? Is this a thing now???”

Matt points out that they’re all good friends and they regularly give each other shit, but very rarely he has to remind them with a little nudge that he spent a lot of time on something, and they’re all very quick to respond to that and settle down.

Travis: “You haven’t taken revenge on a player?” Matt: “I haven’t had to in a long time.” Matt tells the story about a player he had once who would get really drunk and belligerent every game (his go-to joke was to have his character pull his dick out), so at one point a cavern mysteriously collapsed and killed his character. “Sorry, you lost D&D.”

Matt confirms that it’s not Raishan’s lair; the party knows it was part of Thordak’s background and not hers.

Does Percy have any inventions on the backburner? He’s hit the “fuck-it” phase of his building. Marisha: “You’re like the guy with the best Etsy shop.”

Taliesin starts humming “Under the Sea” when visiting the Water Ashari comes up, and Matt and Marisha immediately get miserable remembering that song on loop in Kingdom Hearts.

Matt’s really excited to showcase Allura in battle, especially her team dynamic with Kima.

Matt: “I’ve got TWO DAYS to build this tension, motherfuckers, let me enjoy it!”

Matt really didn’t see Scanlan’s suude obsession coming, but he’s interested to see where it’s going. There are 3 types of suude that can be distilled from the residuum, you get different metamagic effects with each, and the sorcery points last and accumulate for an hour. There are some very bad effects with repeated use.

In a more serious moment, Brian brings up his perspective on the subplot given his own past with substance addiction: “shame can be a siphon that drains our ability to do good.” He’s finding this plot very interesting coming from Sam, and especially coming from Scanlan, and he knows Sam has been putting a lot of thought into that character choice. Nobody in the room has any idea where this is going to go, and everybody is fascinated.

A fan asks for advice for going through tough times. Travis mentions that sharing meaningful time with people has been the most important thing. Taliesin: “...therapy and medication.” Everyone else backs him up on that and talks about how important therapy is. Marisha mentions that she was going through a rough time at the start of this game, but that the game helped her a lot by letting her try big things without having to face major consequences. Matt talks about how Dungeons and Dragons was always a therapeutic outlet for him growing up. Marisha talks about how watching A:tLA at a particularly rough time literally saved her life. Brian also talks about it can be good to spend time alone to recharge, but how important it is not to isolate yourself: “Find other people who want to leave the world better than they found it.”

VM taking Craven Edge away from Grog when he was so desperate to use it against Kevdak was something that really made Grog realize how much Vox Machina cares about him---his old herd wouldn’t have cared. Taliesin pictures Grog wistfully singing “Somewhere Out There” to Craven Edge. Matt sings back in-character.

Brian’s favorite NPC is Gilmore. Matt: “He dresses really nice. He smells really nice, too.”
