Claire/Jamie, 45
#45 -- you're my Achilles' heel
It is unclear how the whole debate started, all the more so for the relative witlessness of its debators. Claire allows, between her protests, that it's giving them something marginally better to do than stand around uselessly in this stagnating camp and rot in the cold.
"No, no no no. It is a metaphor, my dear Master MacKenzie, and that is that."
"Och, Claire ..."
"Och, Claire --"
"An Achilles' heel," says Claire with finality (she is really quite cold, and so less indulgent than her usual self), "is not, nor has it ever been, a literal medical condition. Nobody suffers from one single overly-vulnerable appendage." She grimaces, bent over and peering between her tools, at the state of Kincaid's teeth.
"My own appendage is fair indestructible," declares Angus; Claire does not see the lewd gesture, but divines it all the same, "if ye ken my meaning --"
"Yes thank you Angus," she says, while Rupert shoves him, barely holding back his mannish snicker.
"Eedjits," grumbles Murtagh.
"Have you been cleaning your teeth at all, Ross?"
The man in question shrugs. "Here an' there, Mis'ress," he manages, as much as a person can with hands in their mouth. Claire sighs.
"Alright. Well, try one more pass with the willow twig every night, and make sure to dip it in alcohol first."
"Aye, bu' tha's stuff's better put tae drinkin', isnae't?"
Rupert is next, and Angus hanging about to pass the time -- or avoid his own check up, which Claire has not forgotten is due -- and their asinine chatter continues. While Claire retracts her hands from within the warm damp of Kincaid's mouth, Angus says,
"Pretty stupid way tae go though, dinna ye think."
"What? Bad teeth?"
"Ach, no. I meant -- ye ken -- the one arrow, an' jest like that, yer gone."
"Death by heel, ye mean? Aye, that's a mighty inconvenience."
"Oh, I was still talkin' 'bout my cock."
Claire disinfects her tools and ignores the biting wind, and the amused twitch of her own mouth. Amidst Kincaid's deeply unimpressed groans, she straightens the scarf around her neck, and wipes her nose on the elbow of her sleeve; her gloves must be carrying all manner of illness, by now. Beyond their little tent, more or less useless against the wind, the rest of the camp displays a grey lifelessness that bears on Claire's shoulders like an anvil. A military camp is not meant to be so dull, or directionless -- nor its leaders so incompetent, nor its purpose so misguided. She sniffs again, and realizes she is frowning.
She looks up, distracted by a peal of laughter. It comes from beyond Claire herself, from the small clearing between their tent and the old stone wall leading up to the Prince's quarters.
In the clearing, her husband stands, having spent the better part of the last half hour teaching Fergus how to throw a decent punch. Fergus is not terrible, more or less, but a bit too determined a student, and somewhat comically dwarfed by his instructor-cum-opponent. Claire does not need to have been observing the details of the exchange to know how Jamie must have directed the boy's lanky limbs, firm and unindulgent but gentle all the same. By this point, though, the exercise has devolved into a bizarre game of tag. They are both laughing, slipping in the grass, energized like Claire has not seen them in a while. Jamie's hair brightens the dull grey of the winter afternoon.
"Weel, jest as good it's a metaphor." This is Rupert speaking, behind her.
"What's it a metaphor for, though?"
"Is no' that hard to ken, Angus, ye cannae be that much a dunce."
Claire's fingers tighten over her tools.
"Hmph."
She turns around, not quite startled. Murtagh has slouched over, as she has come to expect him to do, and is inspecting her tiny scalpel like he might a dull dirk. She is half expecting that he offer to sharpen it. Instead, he only looks up at her, expression shrewd and knowing under his thick set brows.
"Ye alright, lass?" he asks, and right at the end of it looks beyond her, at Jamie and their boy.
Claire finds that she does not have an answer to give.

Color Challenge - Brown’s CN 30th Anniversary
🇵🇷Me: Hey there, everyone! As you can see, I originally saved this anniversary artwork from last month before I can show during CN’s 30th birthday. Despite being late, I took some time when creating this before I went do something else. At least I’m trying to be honest here; it was a busy October month for me. Now that it was over still, here’s what I would’ve considered my first CN’s 30th Anniversary artwork….cause normally I’ll be do a second time afterwards so make sure to forward to it. For now though, take a good look of my squirrel character and his cartoon friends celebrate CN. This time though is having my color palette of my choice like the same way that my P-pal while sharing last month art trade post. Link Here
🥜Brown: Yeah, but at least this one good too as well; rising up my bigger flag in honor. It was nice to have himself to share this year. Although I would’ve being there sooner as I thought it was. That’s okay still as I greatly appreciate this as to celebrate history of Cartoon Network itself. Hope to everyone can enjoy this, but well see if it hold up in the near future.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors is a 1987 horror-fantasy film, and the sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.
It is the third film in the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series.
The film received mixed to positive reviews. It was directed by Chuck Russell, written by original creator Wes Craven and co-written by Bruce Wagner, and starred Craig Wasson, Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, and Patricia Arquette in her first role.
Plot
Kristen Parker is in her room.
First she tears open a bag of Gold Medal flour. Then she pours to flour into a bowl. She adds liquid and stirs the mixture with a wooden spoon. She then pours the mixture into another bowl.
She cuts out pieces of newspapers with a pair of scissors.
It is revealed that she is making a model of the Elm Street House.
Kristen nearly falls asleep, so she turns up the volume on her cassette player.
She eats a spoonfull of ground Maxwell House coffee and drinks a gulp of Diet Coke.
Elaine Parker walks into the room and pushes the stop button on Kristen's cassette player.
Elaine says the music could have woken up the entire neighborhood.
A guest asks Elaine where she keeps the Bourbon. She responds that she'll be right down.
Elaine leaves the room.
Kristen falls asleep.
In a dream, Kristen finds herself and her bed in front of the Elm Street House.
Also in front of the house are three children playing jump rope, two children throwing a ball to each other, and one child riding a tricycle.
Kristen gets out of the bed and walks toward the house.
She follows the child on the tricycle into the house.
She goes down to the basement.
The girl on the tricycle is down there.
The basement now seems to be mixed with the Boiler Room.
Kristen picks the girl off her tricycle and runs with her.
The girl appears to have turned into a large doll.
Kristen ends up in a room filled with teenagers hung from nooses.
Kristen appears to wake up in her bed, in her room.
She walks into her half bathroom.
In her half bathroom, she becomes restrained by Freddy and he slashes her wrists. She wakes up. Kristen's mother finds her awake with her wrist cut and a razor in her hands, which makes it appear like an attempted suicide. She passes out.
Kristen is taken to County General, though this part isn't actually shown.
Kristen is taken to the Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital for observation. When the orderly tries to sedate her, she loses control and defends herself with a scalpel. While singing Freddy's jump rope rhyme, Nancy Thompson enters the room and completes the last verse. Kristen immediately feels a bond with Nancy and hugs her.
By this time, all the Elm Street Children have been killed by Freddy except for a few who are committed to Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital. Aside from Kristen, the survivors are: Roland Kincaid, Phillip Anderson, Jennifer Caulfield, Will Stanton, Taryn White, and Joey Crusel. Nancy Thompson is a graduate student researching dreams and is assigned there for research purposes.
Neil Gordon, the psychiatrist assigned to the children, at first is apprehensive about Nancy's presence. He tells her that he believes the children are suffering from a group delusion and will g to any extremes not to sleep. In a talk with her, he discovers by accident that Nancy is taking a drug known as Hypnocil. Later research shows that it is an experimental drug that is not yet approved by the FDA and is used to suppress dreams.
Nancy goes to speak to Kristen's mom, only to discover the house that Kristen made a model of. She brings it to her own home.
That night, in the Dream World, the tricycle comes into Kristen's hospital room.
Freddy attacks Kristen, turning into a snake and trying to eat her, but Kristen pulls Nancy into her dream. Though startled, Nancy is able to repel Freddy long enough for Kristen to pull them out of the dream.
A series of events happens the following day. Nancy learns more about Kristen's ability to pull people into her dreams. Then, Nancy is introduced to the kids through a group session. Having dinner together, Nancy requests that Neil prescribe Hypnocil to the patients, but he refuses. Meanwhile, Freddy controls Phillip like a puppet using his tendons, and severs them with his claw, causing him to fall out the window, making it appear as a suicide.
At the group session the following day, Simms has decided that all patient rooms will be locked and that their will be a policy of evening sedation going forward. Kincaid protests and "earns" himself a night in the quiet room. Neil is so rattled by what happens that he convinces Simms to start prescribing Hypnocil, which they attempt to get the next day.
Later that evening, Jennifer convinces Max to let her stay awake and watch TV. She falls asleep and Freddy's arms and head come out of the TV. He grabs Jennifer and tells her "This is it, Jennifer- your big break in TV! Welcome to prime time, bitch!". He then pulls her into the TV screen, killing her.
While attending Jennifer's funeral, Neil notices a nun walking by the gravestones. Upon reaching her, she gives her name as Sister Mary Helena. Upon telling the sister that his faith is science, the nun tells him it is a sad choice. She tells him the only way to save the children is to put the unclean spirit to rest. Before he can ask her any questions, Nancy appears and the nun is gone.
Neil is confused by all the strange events going on, so Nancy decides to tell him about Freddy. Nancy, Neil, Kincaid, Taryn, Will, Joey, and Kristen do a group hypnosis, and all enter the dream world simultaneously in which Kincaid, Taryn, Will, and Kristen all have special powers. Joey sneaks off after a nurse whom he has a crush on, who turns out to be Freddy in disguise. He traps him above a flaming pit, leaving him in a coma unable to awake from his nightmare.
The cause of Joey's coma is believed by Simms and Dr. Carver, the dean of medicine of Westin Hills, to be the Hypnocil, and Nancy and Neil are subsequently relieved of duty. Although originally promising to listen to the children, Simms has an immediate falling out with Kristen and sedates her and isolates her in the quiet room.
Neil once again sees Sister Mary Helena going to the abandoned part of the hospital.
-
THIS SECTIONS NEEDS WORK.
-
The sister tells him the story of why the hospital wing was shut down. A nun was locked in with inmates in an insane asylum and raped hundreds of times by the inmates. She was eventually rescued and gave birth to Freddy, whom the sister refers to as "The bastard son of a hundred maniacs." She tells Neil to put Freddy's bones to rest on holy ground. Nancy's father, Donald Thompson, now an alcoholic, is the only one who knows where they are. Neil and Nancy go to Little Nemo's. Upon confronting him, Donald continues to not believe that Freddy Krueger survived his physical death and refuses to show Nancy and Neil where the bones are. Nancy receives a call from the Dream Warriors (Taryn, Will, and Kincaid) saying that Kristen is going to be sedated and placed into the quiet room. Neil tells Nancy to go protect the kids while he stays behind to speak to Donald.
Neil finally convinces Donald to show him where the bones are hidden by physically threatening him. He picks up some holy water and a crucifix at a church, and they go to Penny Bros. Auto Salvage where they find Freddy's bones and begin to dig a grave. Donald tries to escape several times, but Neil makes him stay for the funeral.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Max refuses to let Nancy see Kristen. However, Nancy does convince him to let her say goodbye to the other kids. Nancy takes them to another room and they have a second hypnosis session to begin the final fight. Kincaid, Taryn and Will enter the dream world with Nancy, but are immediately separated. Taryn, who uses switchblades in the dream world, attacks Freddy, but he turns his fingers into syringes and injects them into Taryn, killing her. He then sends a spiked wheelchair after Will, who in the real world is in a wheelchair, but can walk and use magic in the dream world. Will destroys the spiked chair with his magic and zaps Freddy, but he is unaffected and stabs Will dead. Nancy, Kristen, and Kincaid rescue Joey from the flaming pit. They attack Freddy, but he is stronger than before. He reveals that when he kills his victims, he takes their souls and holds them captive inside him, giving him strength. In the middle of the battle, Freddy vanishes.
As Neil and Donald are about to bury Freddy's bones, Freddy takes control of the bones and attacks Neil. Donald finally believes that Freddy came back after his physical death and tries to kill him again, but Freddy stabs him and throws him up against a piece of metal, impaling and killing him. Freddy then throws Neil into the grave but does not bother to finish him off and he re-enters the dream world.
Back in the dream world, Freddy creates a room full of mirror images of himself. The images begin to pull the remaining dream warriors in. Joey, however, discovers his voice and shatters the mirrors. Nancy believes this is the end of Freddy. Suddenly, Donald appears and apologizes to Nancy for not believing her and for causing all of this trouble. As Nancy hugs him, Donald reveals himself to be Freddy and finally kills Nancy, much to his happiness. Kristen, in a fit of rage fights Freddy but is overpowered. Meanwhile, although wounded, Neil manages to throw the bones into the grave, pours holy water on them and throws the crucifix onto the skull. Freddy is destroyed. Kristen mourns Nancy and says she will dream Nancy into a wonderful dream forever.
At Nancy's funeral, Neil discovers that Sister Mary Helena was really the spirit of Amanda Krueger, Freddy's mother.

Box Office
The film released theatrically in the United States by New Line Cinema in February 1987. It opened in 1,343 theaters, grossing $8.9 million and debuting at number 1 during its opening weekend. It eventually made $44,793,222 at the domestic box office, making it both the highest grossing film for the studio that year and the 24th highest grossing film of 1987. It is the third highest grossing of the original Nightmare movies after Freddy vs. Jason and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, and the fourth highest grossing film of the series after the release of 2010 remake.
Critical Reception
The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics and audiences. It has garnered an average score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 32 professional reviews. It is almost unanimously considered the best Nightmare film after the original, but still received some negative reviews from critics because of the comedic themes present in the film; director Chuck Russell said in an interview he felt it needed to be taken down a different path, making Freddy fun to keep the audience entertained instead of being dark and scary over and over again. Roger Ebert gave the film 1 and a half stars out of 4.
In Queensland, Australia, Dream Warriors was banned by the then Bjelke-Petersen government due to its drug references, particularly the scene where Freddy's glove becomes a number of syringes as he injects his victim with a heroin overdose. In 1990, the newly elected Goss government abolished the Queensland Film Board of Review. Consequently, Dream Warriors became available to Queenslanders through normal market channels rather than just through sympathetic video rental stores.

1988 Saturn Awards Best Make-up (Nomination)
1988 Saturn Awards Best Supporting Actor – Robert Englund (Nomination)

Soundtrack
The theme song of the movie, "Dream Warriors", was written and performed by the American heavy metal band Dokken. The success of the single led to the following sequels to include a heavy metal song in its soundtrack.
In the original VHS release of the film, during the opening sequence, a hard rock instrumental version of the song "Quiet Cool" is playing. The original version of that song, performed by Joe Lamont, was written for the movie with the same name in 1986. When Dream Warriors was released on DVD, the song that was on the original theatrical release, "Into the Fire" by Dokken, was reinserted.
Trivia
Kristen making the model of the house at 1428 Elm Street resembles The scene of Freddy making his glove in the first film.
Freddy's famous line was improvised, originally, when Freddy kills Jennifer, he was only going to say, "This is it Jennifer, your big break in TV." but Robert England came up with, "Welcome to Prime Time Bitch!"

Guest host Ralph Miller III, who worked behind the scenes on Dream Warriors provides insights and many effects development photos that are shown in the YouTube version of the podcast. Post-recording, the crew wants to clarify that Kevin Yagher was responsible for the Freddy Snake, and Mark Shostrom was in charge of the Penelope Sudrow dummy that smashes into the Freddyvision TV.
With the success of A Nightmare on  Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), following the critical failure of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), New line Cinema firmly cemented Freddy Krueger and A Nightmare on Elm Street as one of the most iconic horror franchises of its time. Not only does Dream Warriors feature Robert Englund continuing to breathe both humor and fear into Freddy Krueger but also the return of both Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon from the original. The film also features Craig Wasson (Ghost Story) as the male lead and early film roles for Patricia Arquette and Larry Fishburne. Frank Darabont (The Mist) and Bruce Wagner join Wes Craven on scripting chores and Chuck Russell (The Blob, The Mask) directs while Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) provides the score – a winning combination of talent. Surely a Grue-Crew highly recommended selection with special effects by Greg Cannom, Doug Beswick, Mark Shostrom, Kevin Yagher, and more!
Be sure to check out the first time the 80s Grue-Crew took a dive into this film in February 2017, featuring Doc Rotten, Christopher G. Moore, and Thomas Mariani as the Grue-Crew. You can find it here: A NIGHTMARE ON ELMS STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS (1987) — Episode 102
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Jeff, will be The Changeling (1980), starring George C. Scott, Trish Van Devere, Melvyn Douglas, . . . and a bouncing, red, rubber ball.
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans – so leave them a message or comment on the gruesome Magazine Youtube channel, on the website, or email the Decades of Horror 1980s podcast hosts at [email protected].

Figured that now that I've got a bookblr, I should make a post about the Read the World Challenge I'm doing! I'm reading a book primarily set in every country, doing my best to focus on authors from said country, though I will read diaspora authors if that's not feasible. Also some of the books from early on were from diaspora authors because I was pulling from books I had already read; I'll likely read more books from those countries in the future if I can. Thinking about the various entrants of yall-hate-kids-tourney and how much I know them.
Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls) - I watched Gravity Falls back in the day, but I haven't finished it.
Gregory (FNAF) - Haven't really seen much of FNAF
Amy Rose and Tails Nine (Sonic the Hedgehog) - I've played a few spin-off Sonic games when I was a kid, but not enough to be familiar with either character.
Flandre Scarlet (Touhou Project) - I heard of Touhou and once tried level 1 of what may have been the first game and failed to get past it.
Meiling Li (Cardcaptor Sakura) - I saw a YouTube essay about Cardcaptor Sakura, but it didn't talk about Meiling.
Amane Momose (MILGRAM) - I got into MILGRAM in early August, which was just enough time to get hyped over Amane's second song. I will defend her with everything I've got.
Six (Little Nightmares) - Haven't heard of Little Nightmares.
Ken Amada (Persona 3) - I watched Let's Plays of Persona 3 FES, The Answer, and Portable. I like Ken's character, but the YMMV page of TVTropes is so harsh on him...
Carl Grimes (The Walking Dead) - Haven't really heard of the show
Fleta (Pocket Mirror) - Haven't heard of the game
Mary (Ib) - I played Ib back in the day. I got so scared of the doll room that I quit out of the game and asked my friends to help me out. My first ending was the one where Ib and Garry don't remember each other. At the time, there were seven endings and the bonus gallery, and I saw them all.
Jason Todd and Damian Wayne (DC Comics) - I'm not very big on DC, but I did hear about the infamous vote.
Chara Dreemurr (Undertale) - I played Undertale multiple times. I wasn't big on killing, though. The worst I did was empty out all the random encounter areas but spare all the bosses.
Monaca Towa (Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls) - I've watched lots of Let's Plays for the Dangaronpa series and the Anime, but I haven't seen a full LP of the latest spinoff game. UDG was... ...
Bailu and Qiqi (Hoyoverse) - I've *heard* of both of those games but don't know any characters in it.
Eridan Ampora and Vriska Serket (Homestuck) - I have a friend from college who is big on Homestuck, but I don't really look at it.
Maria Ushiromiya (Umineko: When They Cry) - I'm sure one of my friends recommended it to me, but I haven't looked into it.
Marcy Wu (Amphibia) - I heard of Amphibia through the Cartoon Crave awards (I think it was called) but haven't looked into it.
Nagisa Momoe (Madoka Magica) - Vaguely heard of the show
Vincent (Stardew Valley) - Heard of the game
Greg Heffley (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) - I read the first six books before I stopped keeping up with releases. Young me did *not* like Greg. Young me didn't like troublemaker protagonists in general.
Nanami Kiryuu (Revolutionary Girl Utena) - Hadn't heard of the show until someone started talking about it a lot on their blog (*waves*)
Arya Stark and Sansa Stark (A Song of Ice and Fire) - Heard of Game of Thrones but never looked into it.
Aang (ATLA) - Got into it several years late. Pretty cool, tight-knit cast.
Steven Universe - Heard a lot about the show but haven't watched it.
Kaio Kincaid (O.K. KO! Let's Be Heros!) - Haven't heard of it, but the person who submitted it said it *is* niche.
Ray (The Promised Neverland) - Haven't heard of it

Shoveling Results for Buffalo Bills in Playoffs
Beating the Steelers and nearly themselves shows nothing is ever to be taken for granted.  Another Buffalo Bills delay in a series of not finishing off a foe can only partially be blamed on incessant snowfall.  Why do you do this to us, ask fans about a two-touchdown playoff win.  The result only seems ungrateful typed out.
Football is a nice distraction from debating whether or not they should play football.  We no longer have to argue whether a storm creates unprecedented peril or is merely a typical Erie County January unless it snows again this weekend.  Politicians who are as inept as coaches show how sports apply to the rest of life.
Pre-empting Wheel of Fortune was worth it.  Nobody watching gets to schedule kick off.  Frustration is key to being a fan.  Realizing such is the path to mitigation.  We can’t control sports any more than we can the weather, and that hasn’t gone well recently.  Coping with what we can’t affect applies to viewing and shoveling.
Pittsburgh partisans claiming delaying benefitted the home team’s quarterback was a conspiratorial slight aimed at their own side.  Suspicious Yinzers implicitly doubted Mason Rudolph’s ability to complete passes under better conditions.  Selecting precipitation as an equalizer may work in video games.  But there’s no button to press for halting snowflakes.
With fake grass visible and only the occasional nasty gust, there was nothing to blame other than performance.  The defense will never expect throwing to empty areas.  Was it windy out there?  Rudolph would have to honestly answer that it wasn’t.
Josh Allen wanted to show he could run as far as he could throw.  The biggest challenge with watching a singular talent turn the extraordinary into the usual is to remain appreciative.  Please let us show we can continue to express awe when he dashes at will.  Allen pairs Keanu Reeves’s personality with playing like John Wick.  That’s quite a relentless performance from someone so easygoing.
The Bills have a chance as long as they have this quarterback.  Backers trust their deliverer to the point that they don’t rely on insecure comparisons.  Eagles fans say Jalen is better than Josh Allen.  Chiefs fans say Mahomes is better than Josh Allen. Cowboys fans say Dak is better than Josh Allen.  Dolphins fans say Tua is better than Josh Allen.  Ravens fans say Lamar is better than Josh Allen.  Bills fans say Josh Allen.
Dalton Kincaid is covered.  It doesn’t matter.  Offenses are supposed to go for a big strike after a turnover, and some tendencies are worth indulging.  Oh, right: there’s also that other tight end.  Why choose between the rookie or Dawson Knox scoring when we can enjoy both?  There’s nothing fun like looking at Steelers cornerbacks looking back.
Wide receivers are also permitted to field passes by rule, so it’s nice that other category contributes, too.  Stefon Diggs continues to help even not counting his willingness to accept a slightly diminished role.  He may not have been given a choice, but he’s maximizing his targets no matter how his contributions get framed.  And Khalil Shakir’s handprint should be marked on the turf for a reception that’s already legendary.
Firing Ken Dorsey is the team MVP.  You say a transaction can’t accept an award for a person.  I say the best move this franchise could’ve made enabled many persons to play offense to their capabilities.  Rewarding a concept is fitting even if there’s nobody to accept the trophy.
Everyone is tired of wrestling officials but a league which apparently enjoys provocative storylines.  Using challenges for uncannily similar plays reflected a pattern poor calls.  Only reversing one obvious turnover recovery made the live ineptness worse.  The ball will never hit the helmet no matter how many times you watch.  That’s true either on your billboard-sized living room television or a boxed tablet held up by a sideline underling.  Trying to dock with a tablet like a space station may not be the ideal way to determine truth in the galaxy’s most prominent league.
Sean McDermott strives to keep games competitive.  That only sounds like a compliment.  He coaches a team talented enough that shouldn’t allow adversaries they knock down to go the distance.  Even what the score indicates to be a somewhat comfortable triumph against another club that made the tournament felt too close.
Letting teams hang around has become intrinsic to McDermott’s coaching personality.  The daft field goal attempt was not just patently obvious in hindsight for those scowling as the field goal crew took the field.  The block merely exacerbated a timid decision.  Hurting a hamstring without contact while carrying a hand warmer is the most punter play ever.
Buffalo was ultimately somewhat successful in finally balancing out the first playoff matchup with this round’s first postseason opponent.  Overall themes remain despite half a century of changes.  That version of the Steelers kept scoring in the first half, which means the 1974 Bills had to abandon their plan of handing off incessantly to whoever their running back was.  Sunday featured the host reversing and repeating history, sort of.
Monday Early Night Football means we don’t have to wait as long to watch the next round.  Participants would likely prefer a bit extra time than viewers.  Having almost two fewer days to prepare for the game as their counterparts is a hypothetical that’s become an actuality.
The NFL’s idea about spreading games out is as brilliant as playing in the game’s true fanbase of curious Europeans and never figuring out what a pass is.  Buffalo will be best served by relying on instincts.  That one rusher who throws sometimes plays best when he’s managed least.  With a team that wins despite coaching, they need as little preparation as they can get.

[ad_1] Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey will be looking for ways to get rookie Dalton Kincaid involved in the offense. One of the best things for any coach, in any sport, is getting the chance to take a chunk of clay, meaning a new player, and mold him into what you think will best optimize his individual skill set which, in turn, determines how best to utilize him in your system. This spring, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey is doing just that with many players, but the one being watched the closest is tight end Dalton Kincaid, the team’s first-round draft pick.Although Dorsey wasn’t giving up any secrets Tuesday on what the plan will be for Kincaid, the fact that the Bills selected him is a clear indication that they are expecting the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder to provide a new dimension for an offense that needed one by the end of the 2022 season.“We’re nowhere close to knowing exactly, ‘Hey, this is what the big picture is going to be’ because we have to learn him and he is going to learn us in a lot of ways within the system and within what we can do,” Dorsey said. “That really is to be determined and you won’t get a great feel of it as coaches until we really start getting into training camp and games and live action and those types of things.”The Bills have been a heavy three-receiver team since Josh Allen became quarterback in 2018, particularly in the last three seasons when the Buffalo offense became one of the best in the NFL. But the addition of Kincaid is going to present a new look for opposing defenses.Speculation is running rampant that the ultimate goal will be to use Kincaid not as a traditional in-line tight end but as the slot receiver. In other words, a bigger, stronger version of Cole Beasley and Isaiah McKenzie.Dorsey will use a primary group of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis on the outside, Kincaid in the slot, and Dawson Knox in the normal tight end role with one running back on the field. This is exactly what the Super Bowl champion Chiefs have been doing for years with superstar Travis Kelce and what the Ravens do with Mark Andrews.Neither of those players are tight ends; they’re receivers who almost never stay in to pass protect and are in the pattern nearly 100% of the time, and that’s what the Bills envision Kincaid can become — a receiver in a tight end’s body who can give Allen a reliable and physical player in the middle of the field.“I think you’re always looking to attack all areas of the field,” Dorsey said, though not conceding that the Bills weren’t great on throws over the middle in 2022. “I think that’s something that is an important piece to an offense to make sure we’re not being one dimensional in any way, and making sure that we can attack different areas of the field as much as possible.”Allen has only had a few practices with Kincaid, but he can already see the value the rookie can bring.“I think his fluidity just in terms of how he moves getting in and out of cuts,” Allen said when asked what has impressed him so far. “When he catches the ball, knifing up forward. And then you look at his catch radius, he makes some pretty unreal catches. I was very excited to be able to work with him. He’s young, he’s very talented, he’s got a lot of room to grow but his ceiling is very high and we’re excited to have him on our squad.”Here are a few other things happening at One Bills Drive:The search for Tremaine Edmunds’ replacement continuesBoth Terrel Bernard (43) and Tyrel Dodson (53) are competing to take over as middle linebacker for the departed Tremaine Edmunds.Nothing has changed since the moment Edmunds signed his expensive free agent contract with the Bears in mid-March. The Bills’ No. 1 hole on the roster is middle linebacker, and linebackers coach Bobby Babich fully understands this.Babich said what’s difficult about finding the right man is that Edmunds’ role was so multi-faceted. He was on the field for every play, he was instrumental in both the run and pass defense, and he was the signal caller, the guy with the green dot on his helmet. That’s a tough job description.“Obviously, we just lost a player who had five years in the operation, right?” Babich said. “The operation and making sure that our defense can function through the way the ‘Mike’ linebacker gets us into a defense, potentially sets a front, sets this, sets that so we can operate at a high level. That's the hardest thing.”The primary candidates to replace Edmunds include Tyrel Dodson, Terrel Bernard and rookie Dorian Williams. None can match the combination of size and athleticism that Edmunds brought, but ultimately, skill set is secondary to the main intangible: Can you make the plays?“We want football players,” Babich said. “We don't care what they look like, we don't care what the measurables are. We want football players that can play football because you can look at the 40 (times), you can look at the the bench (press) and all the combine things, but once that ball is snapped, a lot of those things do apply and a lot of them don't apply.”Meaning, instincts, feel for the game, the ability to diagnose what’s coming, and then having the ability to make the play are what matter most.Roster is still being tinkered withOffensive tackle Brandon Shell is signing with the Bills and will provide veteran competition.General manager Brandon Beane continues to manipulate the roster with minor free agent signings. Here are a few of the more recent:∎ The Bills are reportedly signing veteran offensive lineman Brandon Shell, the great nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Shell. The 31-year-old will provide more competition for right tackle Spencer Brown and for Tommy Doyle as the swing tackle. The 6-foot-5, 342-pound Shell was a fifth-round draft pick in 2016 by the Jets and he has 72 regular season starts under his belt for the Jets, Seahawks and Dolphins (11 last season in Miami).∎ The Bills are also running it back with veteran safety Dean Marlowe who had been with them from 2018-20 and then returned in the middle of 2022 in a trade with the Falcons.∎ Of course, the one everyone is most interested in hasn’t happened. All eyes are focused on wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins now that the Cardinals have released him, and several media outlets continue to believe the Bills are the frontrunners to sign him. It still seems like a reach given the contract it will take since the Bills only have about $1.6 million available salary cap space according to sports contact website Spotrac. To sign Hopkins, Beane would have to either cut someone or re-work a couple of current contracts with perhaps Tre’Davious White and Dion Dawkins being the most logical. For now, we wait.Sal Maiorana can be reached at [email protected]. 4 players the Buffalo Bills will regret not drafting in 2023 NFL Draft
Which players will the Buffalo Bills regret not drafting in the 2023 NFL Draft? The first two rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft couldn’t have gone any better than they did for the Buffalo Bills. In the first round, the Bills added tight end Dalton Kincaid which gives Josh Allen a big receiver. It also gives Ken Dorsey some flexibility in how he runs this offense that he didn’t have last year. In the…
