It's been a long time since I made a keyblade :) Nearly a fully year since I even tried. I did take a stab at inktober last year, but I didn't have it in me.

This one's had a page marked out in my keyblade book for a long time, it's nice to finally fill it. And it's nice to draw keys again. I've missed it.

I did my best to hold on to the more iconic elements of an Ultima Weapon, while still making something that could only come out of my key forge. It's certainly one of a kind anyway...I do worry there's some proportional issues though...

Not quite running, Avery pumps her arms in the fastest walk her pajama pants will tolerate without catching under foot. Tendrils suffocate her from within: they wrap around her chest, crushing and writhing and demanding her attention. It was one detour. By request! Why does my brain have to be like this?

The Hall of Discovery winds in front of her; a slithering eel made of concrete, plaster, and carpet; lined with murky, unlit tanks on both sides. It'd be creepy if she didn't know what was inside every single one of them. As she passes, she can see shadows floating inside them — each unique in their own way.

Names pop to the forefront of her mind, as numerous as her footsteps: marsh periwinkles with their distinctive, conical shell; the bulbous eye sockets and long face of redlip blennies; writhing, wiggling masses of wandering nudibranchs.

Her mind wanders along with them. Her pace slows. I'll never keep the names of the sea slugs straight.

I kind of hate the fact that I have a taste for the literary equivalent of junk food (petty drama), because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have realized that Matt had the baddies of Campaign 3 basically playing Keyforge in the background of Bells’ Hells’ operations.

played magic: the gathering for the first time today and i'm fucking raging. the only other tcg i played was keyforge. keyforge fucks. in keyforge you're an ancient god alien with a spaceship and an army collecting magic amber in space AND you get a randomly generated name. the gameplay is irrelevant here, im talking purely about the kid-brain part of the game design which is what you're supposed to be pretending when you play the cards.

well in magic you're just wizards. that's it. you're wizards having a bitch fight. this is not enough to satiate me. I thought we would be attending THE GATHERING, the millenial magical talent show of the multiverse. I thought maybe it stood for Magic Amazing Great Inchanted Card: The Gathering. I thought perhaps that we would be creating real magic, which is found in the gathering of several friends to play cards with, because friendship is magic.

well it turns out that Wizards of the Coast wanted to call their card game "magic" and their legal team were like, "you cannot copyright a game that is just call 'magic'. stick something on the end" and they stuck "the gathering" on it. sick of it. here is the overaching universe I have decided that every game of m:tg takes place in:

every possible version of a story, real or fictional, is ruled by a single god. those gods are all young parents. you are their children at daycare. this is your playground. its make believe but it happens for real because you are god babies. thank you for coming to my ted talk

I love how Ashley become BFF of Blitzwing, but I wonder what Ashley will do if she met TFA Soundwave. Will she adopted miniwave and maybe another bot that born on Earth too?

I mean, I not sure that technically they all are at least younglings or... something like that?

Ashlyn definitely does have a, not a maternal nature per se, but more of an older sister imprinting instinct. She doesn't quite have the emotional resilience to add being a mother hen to her already overflowing repator of stress, but she is very protective and does have a tendency to form connections quickly. Those connections may be one-sided, or rooted in her experiences as a previous viewer, but they are their.

Her feelings on Soundwave, in TFA, would be heavily influenced by the latter. She would see him as the scarily strong, smart, and capable deception and she'd admire him for it. She'd be incredibly tempted to put mini-wave into her pocket, but she'd keep her distance and enjoy the show. Same for the dino bots and other earthborn bots.

It's actually Wreck-Gar that ends up changing that.

Its slow, but the bot's honest and naive nature automatically forces Ashlyn to take up a more mature role between the two of them. And, as she spends more time in the junkyard hiding from the cons and Autobots, that role becomes a more sisterly one. Wreck-Gar morphs from an annoying and ignorant Cybertronian to a friend that she might actually regard as family.

Hearing about how he's been effectively cast aside by the other bots, even if he himself doesn't realize it, and already knowing far more details about Cybertron's many incarnations and constant issues with equality, a separation between Earthborn and foreign aliens does form in Ashlyn's mind.

Blitzwing is entertaining, even if his constant attention can endanger her quest to build a portal home, a different connection forms between her and the keyforged.

Like her, they don't quite fit in. Not of Cybertron, but not warmly welcomed on Earth. Tools that gained sentience, accidents that were not asked for, and given a choice between conforming and proving worth that was given to others inherently, or striking out on their own and not gathering too much attention. It's something that resonates the more she thinks about it. Because they are younglings. Arguably Cold-constructed, but younglings nonetheless that have been left to fend for themselves.

And just like that, a bond is formed.

It's one-sided, Ashlyn as the true alien in this world expects nothing less, but it's there. And it's noticeable.

It's only a few small events, a few small interactions, and maybe a slight sensitivity left over from the key's energy, but that one-side care is meet by the thin tendrils of a amiable curiosity.

When Ultra Magnus come to Earth and makes his mission known, neither side expects Soundwave, the Dinobots, and Wreck-Gar to make an alliance.

No one is taking the weird human away.

No one.

*Blitzwing forces himself into the Ash Protection Squad, of course. No one is surprised. Starscream though? That is a shocker
