There's only one week left on my kickstarter for FOUR books!!!

I really pushed a lot of boundaries on the page layouts and presentation of these books, they're all GORGEOUS and I am SO proud of every single one!

Each book is self contained and 125-175 pages, so you can pick whichever sounds most exciting to you if you're not ready to jump into all four right off the bat!

Pirates, Summer Camp, Ghost Hunting, and Victorian Vampire Hunters!

But, the main charaters do also have a developing romance over the course of the series!

it has been a TON of work to edit these into books and fix up some of the art and writing, but I promise I could not be happier with the work I've done!

The core concept of Aether Beyond the Binary is simple and compelling: create intriguing main characters outside the gender binary and set them loose to explore the modern world twisted or barely changed, enhanced or destroyed by magical aether. This power source may replace technology, supplement it, or oppose it. These characters may be agender, genderfluid, bigender, or any other non-binary identity. The thread that these tales share is exploration: of the world around them and of the self. We propose no conclusions; instead, we demonstrate how far-reaching the questions are and how expansive the range of possible answers can be, thereby broadening the discussion about the nature of gender and the place of genderqueer characters in science-fantasy fiction. We hope you’ll join us to explore the endless possibilities of these magical worlds.

Re-Spun Threads is a paperback comic anthology of fairytales and folklore set in cultures (micro or macro) outside the original or well-known version of classic tales. 

Sixteen creators and creative teams came together to craft short comics based on the concept of retelling classic tales with the twist that the characters and/or time and place had to change from the original. The goal was to bring the structure of a fairytale and mold it to convey themes and cultures more relevant to ourselves-- Not to unweave the tapestry of tales that we love, but to rework them into something new.

Duck Prints Press is over the moon to announce that the crowdfunding campaign for our next anthology, Aether Beyond the Binary, will be launching on Kickstarter on December 26th, 2023. This awesome collection includes 17 stories about characters outside the gender binary – be they non-binary, agender, genderfluid, bigender, or elsewise – exploring, learning, growing, teaching, helping themselves or helping the world in settings like the modern world, but with magical aether powering the technology!

Our spectacular cover, which we are thrilled to reveal today, features art by non-binary artist Mar Spragge. The lead editor, Nina Waters, is agender. Many of our contributors are also trans and/or non-binary. You can see the full list of contributors here.

The crowdfunding campaign for this book will include options to buy the anthology as an e-book, trade paperback, or hard cover, and we’ve also got some gorgeous merchandise, with an enamel pin by Atomic Pixies, a bookmark by Pippin Peacock, a sticker of the back of the book cover (because the book cover is FULL WRAP-AROUND, wut?!), and of course a sticker of our latest Dux, created by Alessa Riel.

Random Dungeon

So the TTRPG I'm designing Abbadon has a number of tools. Random magical affixes for items which I've had plenty of time to play around with. I recently redrafted my random dungeon guidelines and tables for the game and gave it a go last night with a test play. It went pretty well to the point where I'm much happier with this version of the tools as written. It provides a good set of building blocks that can easily be tweaked and added to or run as is on the fly.

This isn't a super in depth map like you'd maybe find in D&D but it serves the purpose and feels more like a simplified Darkest Dungeon map with the corridors and random encounters there in removed and only focused on the rooms. Deciding which directions to branch from are up the GM or players if you're generating the dungeon collaboratively (Which I've also tried in test plays for a lot of fun)

No hazards were generated such as traps or environmental hazards but you can see that 2 non combat encounters were generated which have mechanical things players can interact with, 3 combat encounters where generated one being an ambush and one being an easy encounter. The book has streamlined rules for balancing encounters that's based on the spent experience of the party and party size.

Some sizable loot without needing a fight as well as a really good hidden piece of treasure were generated as well (Sadly the party didn't find the amulet it would have been a nice addition to the Faithful or Stalker most likely)
