Kids/Family Movies I Think Are Underrated
Monster House
This is a funny Halloween movie. A group of teens find out that their neighbors house is alive. The three teens have to fight to destroy the house before it does harm to all the trick-or-treaters on Halloween.
Monster Vs aliens
A girl named Susan gets mutated on the day of her wedding. She gets taken by the government and ends up in a group of monsters. Together the team fight against an evil alien.
Flushed Away
A rat (voiced by Hugh Jackman) gets flushed accidentally. He gets help by two other rodents to get back home, to bad a mob-boss like frog wants to unalive the rats.
Strange Magic
A fairy princess, who no longer believes in love, and a dark leader, who hates love, starts to see the real beauty in it. This is like (for me personally) a better version of Beauty and the Beast. This movie has magic, music, monsters, love potions, and tons of comedy.
Osmosis Jones
This is a mix of animation and live-action comedy movie. Basically this zoo guy eats an egg and gets sick. This illness is really deadly, so in his body a white cell cop and a cold/flu pill try and fight off the sickness.

MONSTER HOUSE (2006)
Grade: C-
Odd film in the sense it was too scary and morbid for kids but not clever enough for adults. It pulls at your heart a little. I actually thought I'd like it. It's forgettable.

I'm stricter with children's media than with adults' in having solid story and full emotional resolution.
I quite enjoy switching my brain off for a movie but kids don't, I don't mean that they'll keep pondering any adult references that went over their head, of course not. But they will be internalising how a parent-child relationship turned out, concepts like the grand gesture that changes everything, body shaming jokes, the fact that characters assumed friends who'd just met wanted to date, all sorts of things they identify with.
For grown up media, I love growth or just the hint of it or even a downward spiral but for kids media: don't open character plot points you're not going to close in a either a satisfying or a realistic way.
Here are 3 simple fixes for the Mario Bros movie: fear/caution being a virtue once, "stubbornness is my boy's superpower?" , "we just met and there's a war on, focus guys." It doesn't solve the thin characterisation but it closes three emotional arcs kids will find unresolved or badly resolved.

Like the majority of society I’m obsessed with Nimona
And I rewatched it a million times and one thing always sticks out to me
There are moments when Ambrosius is surrounded by light like a little protective bubble
That keeps him away from the man he loves more than anything
