How it started vs. How it ended.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I always start as an organised person but, by the end of any study session, my desk looks like a mess 😳
Anyway, today was so much better than yesterday. I still suffer from insomnia so I'm starting to get a headache but my mood was slightly better and I accomplished more things than yesterday so that is something 🙃
This I did today:
I went to pilates and it felt amazing.
I keep reading.
I catch up with my korean homework.
I studied a couple of hours of clarinet.
My friend brought food and we watched Good Omens. It felt amazing to just laugh and have a nice time.

English people just don’t understand. They haven’t been in the trenches. They haven’t been a socially awkward eleven year old not knowing whether they should address their musical theatre teacher with the formal you or whether that would be weirder than informal. They haven’t meticulously crafted their sentences to avoid using the second person at all costs.
Now Korean people, they know. They’ve been in the trenches. They’ve been in worse trenches. They’ve got a million levels of formality and they can’t even say one sentence without having to make the call on which to use, because they’re attached to every main verb. They are the only motherfuckers on this globe I respect.

Recently I have been listening to BTS and it wasn't until I listened to Indigo by RM that I decided I want to sing along and that can only happen if I learn Korean.
So here we are.
Learning Korean Marathon! Day 1
I went through basic vowels and consonants, learned a bit about the blocks, and used apps to figure out the pronunciation. Also, the day before I used flashcards to learn them.

존댓말
존댓말 (Jondae-mal) refers to the formal speech style used in Korean. It is characterized by a polite and respectful tone and is typically used when speaking to individuals of higher social status, strangers, elders, or in formal settings. 존댓말 is the opposite of 반말 (Banmal), which is the informal speech style used among friends or individuals of the same age or lower social status.
Here are some key features of 존댓말 (Jondae-mal):
1. Politeness: 존댓말 maintains a polite and respectful tone in conversations. It is used to show deference and respect to the listener or the person being addressed.
2. Verb endings: In 존댓말, verb endings are typically formal and polite. The verb stems are followed by endings such as -습니다 (-seumnida) for declarative sentences or -세요 (-seyo) for imperative sentences. For example, "먹습니다" (meokseumnida) for "I eat/I am eating" or "먹어주세요" (meogeojuseyo) for "Please eat."
3. Honorific expressions: 존댓말 employs honorific expressions and vocabulary to show respect. This includes using appropriate honorific titles, such as 선생님 (seonsaengnim) for teacher or 회장님 (hoejangnim) for chairman, and other polite phrases and honorific terms.
4. Formal vocabulary: In 존댓말, formal vocabulary is used to convey a sense of respect and politeness. It includes using formal terms for greetings, titles, and expressions of politeness.
5. Suitable for formal settings: 존댓말 is commonly used in formal situations, official documents, business settings, and when addressing individuals of higher social status or authority figures.
Using 존댓말 is considered appropriate and respectful in formal or unfamiliar situations, as it demonstrates proper etiquette and shows consideration for others. It is important to be mindful of the appropriate speech level to use based on the social context and the relationship with the person being addressed.

Sep 29, 2023 ・❥・Week 1 Day 1 of prepolygot's Langblr Reactivation Challenge
Day 1: Create an introduction post about yourself. What's your name? What languages are you studying? What languages do you hope to study? What do you hope you'll get out of this challenge?
Hi everyone, long time no see. My name is Mi, I'm 24, and a native English speaker. I use masculine pronouns in any language I study, as well as they/them in English.
My old url used to be hangugeo-hands but I changed it because while I do still want to learn more KSL, Korean and Korean sign language aren't the only languages I want to study. I'm shifting my focus to more Spanish right now because I'm looking at a possible trip in the future! That being said, I'll still post other languages as well!
With this challenge, I hope to use it as a fun little game to really motivate me to renew this blog as I continue my studies.
This is a side blog! Any follows come from @baldyeosang
Languages Currently Studying
Korean
Japanese
Spanish
Languages I'd Love To Study One Day

남미새 (남자에 미친 새끼)
it's the korean slang for boy crazy, but a more literal translation is crazy bastard about men
