tsukasa eishi was so so obviously in love with you; his breaths would suddenly get heavy, his cheeks would redden so contrastive from his milky skin, almost everyone in eishi’s small social circle (read: the elite 10) knew how paralyzingly lovesick he was for the charmingly intimidating heir; they all knew how desperate he was for even a sliver of conversation with you, how he looked at you as if you were a breath of fresh air.

they all knew, except you.

“y/n-chin, im serious! tsukasa-senpai is really crushing on you!” your classmate and higher-up in the elite 10, kuga said as he continued to badger you. “‘teru, jokes like that aren’t funny, you know?” you glared at the blonde as you crushed various herbs in a mortar. “it’s not a joke, ugh!” he groaned, “even nene-chin knows about his crush and she’s just as clueless to love as a robot!”

“it’s ridiculous, no!” you sigh for nth time. “why would the 1st seat out of all people have a crush on me? the only thing elite about me is probably my family.” you dryly laugh, your eyes softening at that slim hope that it was true, that it wasn’t some .

“ooh! what’s that smell?” a familiar voice called out, the kitchen door making quite a loud bang as it closed. “is the y/n making a new dish~?” your senior said as she came up to the two of you.

“what do you mean, the? you’re the 2nd seat, rindo.” you retort back. leaning onto the counter and scoffing, she continues the previous conversation; “i heard kuga saying something about tsukasa crushing on ‘ya, right? he’s right though— tsukasa’s such a dork when someone mentions you; eyes looking for you and all!” she laughs to herself at what you can only assume was a former experience.

“hmm… you really think so?” you asked doubtfully as you put down the pestle and start to prepare the main course. “obviously!” rindo scorned, her phone buzzing. “hah! speak of the devil, tsukasa needs to talk to you about the agreement for the first years’ stagiaire and your family’s restaurant.”

“now? ah, fine…” you begrudgingly take off your apron and wash your hands. “ooooh, what if he confesses his love for you~?” the feline-like girl goaded, getting a kick out of the groan you silently let out as you left the kitchen.

“ts— ah, are you okay..?” you hesitantly ask the exhausted boy as his face is hidden by the stacks of documents on his table. “y/n?! ahem, sorry..” his cheeks flush as he clears his throat.

noticing little traits— until rindo and terunori pointed out his crush, you never noticed them; how shaky his hands would be when you were touching his skin, how badly he tried to look good when rindo brought up another embarrassing memory.

did the 1st seat of totsuki truly return your feelings?

“y/n, i… i need to ask you something..” his eyes paced, looking everywhere except at you. “have i done something wrong to you?!”

“w… what?” you ask, shocked. “it’s just… it’s like you never really see me. i’m standing right in front of you and you don’t see me, you never even talk to me unless you’re obligated to…” he explained wearily as he fiddled with his loose tie.

“look— eishi, i was honestly a little… intimidated by you but, if you want to hang out more then… sure.” you keep your hands close to your chest to keep your heart from beating out of your chest.

“really? then… if you wouldn’t mind, a date? at my place, i’ll cook.”

Fractures and Favors: A Terunori Kuga Short

Summary: Everything in Terunori Kuga's life seemed to be going smoothly. He'd been winning Food War after Food War with ease, he'd managed to challenge Chef Tsukasa, and he'd just come up with his latest dish at the Chinese Cuisine Research Society. Things were going brilliantly, and although there were some people that undervalued his abilities (namely Eizan and Nene), his work really was flourishing.

But when a rogue cart and a cute klutz comes along, Kuga finds himself caring for more than just his work.

Everything in Terunori Kuga's life seemed to be going smoothly. He'd been winning Food War after Food War with ease, he'd managed to challenge Chef Tsukasa, and he'd just come up with his latest dish at the Chinese Cuisine Research Society. Things were going brilliantly, and although there were some people that undervalued his abilities (namely Eizan and Nene), his work really was flourishing.

But like all good things in life, they're interrupted by brief misfortunes.

The day was warm and pleasant as Kuga made the relatively short walk back to his apartment. The trees were green and lush, the flowers were blossoming, and the breeze felt lovely. He'd intended to make a cup of tea and enjoy the sun for a bit before heading off to his office, but he wasn't in any particular rush.

Perhaps he should have been.

There was a faint sound of rumbling from behind him, but Kuga didn't bother looking. Even the rogue calls didn't draw his attention. Delivery trucks arrived at Totsuki constantly, filling the roads and pathways with rumbling and chattering. However, this time was different.

And you were watching.

A cart stacked high with boxes was rumbling down the hill ahead of a very alarmed looking Isshiki. He was running after it, shouting for people to watch out. The cart was heading straight for Kuga, and it didn't look like Isshiki would catch it in time.

You moved without thinking, racing out from under the trees as fast as you could. "Kuga!" you yelped, colliding with him before the massive cart could crash into him.

He stumbled to the ground, shirt rumpling and back rolling against the rough concrete.

But you weren't quite quick enough. The sharp crack was sickening, and you yelped in pain, immediately curling around your throbbing arm. You'd managed to push Kuga away from the collision, but your arm hadn't quite made it out from under the wheels.

Kuga blinked in surprise, disoriented from the sudden whirlwind that had just flashed before his eyes. You were laying on the ground, body wrapped around your arm, knees curled up into your skirt. A few feet away, fish and vegetables were spread across the sidewalk beside a broken, overturned cart.

"(Y/n)!" Isshiki exclaimed, bending to help you sit up. "That was quite a courageous move. Are you alright?"

"I—," you winced, shifting under his gaze. "I don't know…" Your arm hurt. Whatever adrenaline had propelled you toward Kuga hadn’t stuck around long enough to dull the ache where the cart had run you over.

"(Y/n)!" A pair of cold hands pressed against your cheeks. "We saw what happened. Are you okay?" Professor Shiomi was leaning over you, eyes wide and worried. Behind her Professor Chapelle’s gaze shifted between you and the damaged ingredients.

"I… I don't…"

Isshiki helped pull you to your feet, and you winced again as your arm shifted, a shock of white-hot pain jolting through your body.

Professor Shiomi gasped, cold fingers closing around your elbow. "You're shaking! Are you hurt?"

"We should get you to a hospital," Professor Chapelle confirmed, noticing how closely you held your injured arm.

The two professors whisked you away, rushing you to one of the Totsuki cars. Whoever the vehicle had been waiting for, they’d have to wait a little longer.

Kuga brushed the dust off his pants as he finally stood. What had just happened? One minute he was walking back to his dorm and the next he was on the floor and you were hurt? What had…

"I'm glad you're okay," Isshiki smiled. "It looked like (Y/n) wasn't going to make it in time. But she jumped in front of the cart to save you. What a brave girl!"

Brave, sure. But there was more to it than that. And Kuga really didn’t know what to think.

He spent the afternoon in the Elite Ten's office. Pacing.

Nene was on the brink of leaping across her desk to murder him. Eizan had already thrown too many insults to count his way.

But for the first time Kuga couldn't really blame him. Why had you saved him? Why had you risked yourself for his benefit? Why? Although he hated agreeing with Eizan, Kuga couldn't deny that it didn't make much sense. Sure, both of you were on the Ten together, but it wasn't like you were close. Still, that didn't stop him from pacing, from worrying about what had happened to you.

Isshiki chuckled when he entered the room. "You're quite energetic today, Kuga."

"Well it's not every day my life is at stake!" he pouted, trying not to reveal how concerned he actually was.

Nene rolled her eyes. "He's worried about (Y/n)."

So much for that.

"You think so?" Eizan asked. "That seems too empathetic for Kuga."

"Hey!"

Isshiki chuckled again. "Well, there's nothing to be worried about. Professor Shiomi just called to tell us (Y/n) will be back soon. Her arm is injured, so there's some paperwork to do, but everything appears to have worked out just fine."

Nene sighed. "That's a relief. I'm glad she isn't suffering for him." She sent a pointed glare toward Kuga, one he pretended to ignore.

Your arm was injured, but you were mostly okay. That was excellent news for him to hear. But that still didn't answer why you had…

Isshiki clapped his shoulder as he walked by. "She should be back at the Polar Star Dorm in a few hours, don't fret."

Kuga bristled. "I'm not worried, Isshiki!"

Oh, but he was.

As Kuga went to leave the office that day, he heard two hushed voices from one of the private meeting rooms. At first, he wasn't planning on paying attention to it. However, then he heard something that piqued his attention.

"That was an incredibly brave act, (Y/n). It's so unfortunate that you were injured."

"Oh," you shrugged, glancing down at your cast. "It's not that big a deal, Isshiki. I wish you wouldn't make such a fuss about it."

"You aren't upset?"

"Not in the slightest."

Kuga's face pinched into a frown. Your arm was injured, but you weren't upset?

Isshiki stole the question right from his head. "Why's that?"

You bit the thumb that wasn't in your cast, brows furrowing slightly. "Well… you said Kuga's okay, right? That's all that matters."

"Kuga?"

"Yes." You turned, tracing a finger down the calendar on the wall, stopping at a date a few months away. "He has a Food War with Chef Tsukasa, remember? He's been so excited."

Kuga bit his lip. You remembered his plans? You noticed how excited he'd been?

"He's been working on new recipes for weeks now," you continued, turning back to Isshiki. "I couldn't let anything happen that would jeopardize his chances."

Isshiki smiled, noticing the shadow shifting under the doorway. "I'm sure Kuga's grateful in his own way. Now, only a few more papers left to sign and we can go back to the dorms."

"Thank goodness," you sighed. "It's been such a long day."

A few hours later, Kuga knocked on the door to the Polar Star Dormitory, quickly stuffing his hands in his pockets to appear nonchalant.

Isshiki answered the door, smiling knowingly at Kuga's seemingly indifferent expression. It was obvious he was nervous.

"I think she's in the kitchen. I'm sure she'll be pleased to see you."

"Well everyone always loves seeing me!" Kuga boasted. The expression barely reached his eyes, too nervous to truly dramatize what he was saying.

Isshiki chuckled, turning to head up the stairs. "Of course." He pointed toward the left. "The kitchen's through there. I'll let Ms. Fumio know you stopped by for a visit."

Kuga hesitated before turning down the hallway. The rooms were dark, but there was clattering up ahead that told him that he was heading in the right direction.

He squeezed his hands in his pockets, not entirely sure what to say once he saw you. It was probably appropriate to thank you, but he didn't really do that with people. Besides, it would be embarrassing for him to come all the way to the dorms just for that.

Hovering near the entrance of the kitchen, he looked to see what you were doing.

Whatever it was, it definitely didn't look like it was going well.

As you tried to cut up sections of your protein, the knife kept slipping unevenly. Although it didn't look like you would inadvertently cut yourself, Kuga still winced at your clumsiness. It seemed like you'd lost all your coordination. Had you gotten a concussion?

You sighed, dropping your knife on the cutting board. It was so frustrating trying to cook with your nondominant hand. You'd need a lot of practice. Maybe you could ask Isshiki for a little help…

Kuga took a breath. It was now or never.

"Looks like someone's having a hard time," he mused, stepping out into the light.

"Kuga?" you asked, eyes widening. "I—"

"Here," he stepped beside you, picking up the knife. "Let me make you dinner tonight." He began chopping up the protein into thin slices for one of his favorite stir fry recipes. Isshiki had plenty of vegetables he could surely borrow.

You watched him warily. "Kuga, you really don't have to. I can manage."

He tossed some oil into a pan, waiting for it to shimmer. "I know you can, but I wanna do it anyway. Besides, it’s an honor to have one of my dishes."

Turning, you pulled some plates out of the cabinet behind you. Kuga was definitely fine. The accident didn’t seem to alter his boastfulness. Although you didn't want Kuga to burden himself, you weren't going to turn down a chance to taste his cooking. After filling a few glasses with water, you set the table, hoping Kuga was making some for himself, too.

He made quick work of the meal, plating the dish a few minutes later.

It was delicious. The spicy flavors paired wonderfully with Isshiki's sweet vegetables. The sauce was flavorful but not overpowering. The entire dish was perfect, and the taste made you sigh contentedly.

"I'm glad you like it," Kuga smirked, leaning back to cross his arms over his chest. "What time do you usually like to eat?"

Your brows furrowed. "Around now. Why?"

"Well, I plan on making you dinner until your arm heals. It's bad for a chef to leave his customer waiting."

"Kuga… what? You don't really… you don't have to do this. You don't owe me for today. I promise!"

He chuckled, cooing, "Look at you all flustered!" You glared, and his expression grew slightly more serious. "This isn't because I owe you, (Y/n,). Think of it as a gift from a friend."

"A gift?"

"Yeah." He stood, reaching down to pick up your plate. "Now, let's see if I can whip up something for dessert. You deserve something sweet after such a long day."

As if there was any way you could turn that down.

Three-and-a-half months later.

Kuga bowed his head, heart heavy. He'd lost. To Tsukasa.

After all his work, it still wasn't enough.

After you'd gotten hurt just to help him succeed… could he even face you now? Surely you'd been watching…

How was he still so far behind?

Although he'd been reluctant to make an appearance at the Polar Star Dormitory, he had promised you that he'd make dinner. Even in the face of bitter defeat, he didn't want to break his promise.

When he walked into the kitchen, you were awkwardly maneuvering a knife across a cutting board.

"(Y/n)? What are you doing?" he asked, face falling. He hadn't thought you'd be the one to sabotage his promise. Now you didn’t want him cooking for you? Were you really that disappointed in him?

When you smiled, his fears vanished. "You were running a little late, so I thought I'd chop the green onions. You tend to use them as an accent… I just figured…"

He smiled, shifting to step beside you and steal the knife from your hand. "That's sweet of you. I'm glad you've been paying attention to my recipes."

"How could I not? They taste wonderful," you said, shifting away from the cutting board slightly.

Kuga merely smirked, starting in on the rest of the vegetables.

At least you still enjoyed his cooking…

As he started the flame for the wok, you set the table, trying to think of options for small talk. If Kuga didn't bring up the Food War, then you wouldn't either. But you had more bad news to add to his day…

The way you sighed contentedly over his food made Kuga feel infinitely better. Although he wondered how you'd react to Tsukasa's cooking, he tried not to focus on that. You liked his cooking, and that was enough.

Kuga's cooking really was amazing. There was a reason you'd let him continuously come back, going so far as to decline invitations from Isshiki just to get another taste of Kuga's cooking. But unfortunately, your deal was up.

"I get my cast off tomorrow," you offered, nervously gripping your napkin. As excited as you were to have your dominant hand back, you were worried Kuga would want to stop being friends. However, when his face fell with your admission, you realized he was probably thinking the same thing.

"Oh," he offered, too dejected to bother with a witty reply.

Biting your lip, you reached across the table to gently take his hand. "Would you like to have dinner together tomorrow anyway?"

He smirked, squeezing your hand slightly. "Can't get enough of my cooking, huh?"

You squeezed his hand again, bashfully glancing down at the table. "Actually, I thought I could make you dinner this time."

Kuga leaned forward to rest his chin on his hand, scrutinizing you with one eye as though he wasn’t sure if he wanted your cooking. However, his attempt at looking contemplative was betrayed by his smile. For all the bad things that had happened, they had paved the way for so many good things, too.

"Yeah," Kuga grinned, squeezing your hand once more. "I'd like that."

(SnKimiko-Verse related)

Breakfast Headcanons for the different families in my “Shokugeki no Kimiko”-Verse. For...some reason.

The Yukihiras (SoRina Family)

When Hiraku & Kimiko were still going to the local school, Soma and Erina always had a competition every night after the restaurant closed over who’d get “Bento-Rights” the next morning. Whoever won got to make the Bento obviously ahdh.

Soma really loves to make them all kinds of Onigarazu, while Erina has developed her own kind of honey-pork dumplings, that Hiraku in specific loves a lot

During the week, while the children get their bento for school, the adults usually each make an individual, quick breakfast for themselves at different times. Although with Soma and Erina of course they are proud enough of their creations to urge the other that they should have a taste as well.

Once they’re old enough, Kimiko & Hiraku tend to take over breakfast on weekends as the family is more prone to breakfast together on these.

EGGS, lots of EGG-DISHES. What household do you think this is?

The Nakiris (RyoAli Family)

Back when the Nakiri-Twins were smol, Alice & Ryo made a great effort to be around them as much as they can...so they usually also ate breakfast as a family. When the twins are older and can take better care of themselves it decreases a little but ultimately this family still does eat breakfast together at least once a week.

Usually it’s prepared by one of the cherry-picked chefs working in the Nakiri-Mansion, but being great chefs themselves one of the family-members tends to prepare breakfast as well at times.

Once Akio Hayama moves into the the Nakiri Mansion he sometimes prepares breakfast as well, but more on that later.

They tend to have a rather sumptuous breakfast, with a lot of options to pick from: Various types of cheese, croissants and other pastries, freshly-baked bread, fruit...etc. Some Instagram-worthy stuff.

Despite all these luxuries, Mona and Lola Nakiri never fail to voice that they prefer when their parents cook breakfast.

Rest (AkiSako, IsaMegu, ShuYoko and so on) under the cut

The Hayamas (AkiSako Family)

Akira and Hisako both don’t like other people preparing their breakfast. Whenever the Hayama-Family is staying at a hotel, these two are sulking at the hotel buffet.

Akira & Hisako quite frankly love to prepare breakfast for their children and, while not always, they do tend to do it together. With these two teaming up it’s usually a very healthy, energizing breakfast.

But despite the teamwork, these two also have some competition going on every morning as Hisako prepares tea, while Akira prepares coffee. The competition is about which drink their children will pick up (who like both). Real fancy tea blends & coffee-combinations are born in this competition.

Kaori & Akio pick up a lot from their parents. It’s become common knowledge around the E10 that Akio makes the best tea, while Kaori could 100% work as a barista if she wasn’t a cook. And they both have a lot of breakfast-recipes stored in their head.

Once Akio moves into the Nakiri-mansion because of Hiraku, he actually does prepare breakfast from time to time. At first he usually eats on his own, because he feels awkward sitting at the same table as the headmistress but Alice’s pushy nature get him to sit with them in the end.

The Japan Aldinis/Aldini-Tadokoros (IsaMegu Family)

Megumi and Isami prepare breakfast together almost every day. It’s a great way of bonding for them. It usually turns out to be a pretty rural-breakfast but it’s very comforting and their children love.

Yes, they bake their own bread. I believe in this firmly.

Hiroshi Aldini-Tadokoro, when old enough, also tends to help out with breakfast or he goes out to pick some berries. Maja and Nino Aldini-Tadokoro often end up settling the table. This is more for weekends though.

During the week, Megumi & Isami make bentos. Bentos for the kids and Megumi also makes one for Isami, while Isami makes one for her. He even came up with an “Italian-Styled Bento” just for this.

The Tuscany Aldinis (TakuIku Family)

They don’t always manage to, but really try their best to eat together as a family. In Summer specifically. They always eat outside when the temperatures are warm enough.

There’s three kinds of breakfast: When Ikumi prepares it, it’s usually the very healthy, nutritious kind that actual athletes would eat. Like idk, greek yogurt with fruit and chia-seeds, avocado-sandwiches...meep.

When Takumi prepares it, it’s a sumptuous but also cozy European breakfast including lots of freshly picked tomatoes, egg, sausages etc.

And then there’s the times when their daughter Mika prepares breakfast, even bringing it to her parent’s bed when she’s awake before them. Mika usually finds a middle ground between her mother’s breakfast style and her father’s breakfast style.

The Ibusakis (ShuYoko Family)

Ryoko makes very traditional bentos on weekdays.

On weekends, she goes out even more and sets the table very lovingly. Shun also involves himself and smokes some bacon, eggs or so.

Ryoko has found herself a hobby in jam-producing. In the nearby forest (the Ibusakis live close to one), she tends to pick berries (or Kasumi does that for her), or gets some fruit from the market in their small village and she makes jam out of them. She came up with some truly delicious combinations on her own. Yuki always takes at least 10 glasses with her, whenever the Maruis are over.

Shun probably also bakes bread himself at times, idk I can just picture him doing that.

The Maruis (MarYu Family)

Yuki makes Bentos for Takahiro (and back when Chieko wasn’t on Totsuki, also for her ofc) during the week. And she always includes some animal designs. Because she’s Yuki.

They don’t always breakfast together on Saturday but they sure do on Sundays. This is a sacred tradition to Yuki. If it’s sunday and all of the family-members are home...They will have breakfast together.

Zenji gets send out to get bread and usually he also buys some pastries or cakes for the children (and Yuki).

Yuki meanwhile prepares the best (according to Takahiro) hot chocolate for Takahiro & Chieko (and herself).

Zenji drinks coffee or tea meanwhile.

Chieko really loves to have blueberries at breakfast. So sometimes Yuki incorporates them into pancakes. She likes making pancakes.

The Hojos (Terunori Kuga x Miyoko Hojo Fam)

They tend to end up eating together. Suzume & Miyoko wake up the earliest usually and while Suzume goes for a morning-jog, Miyoko often begins preparing breakfast. Takayuki comes down to drink tea closely after and lastly Terunori wakes up, when everything is finished usually.

Suzume loves having smoothies for breakfast, especially since she’s already being active early in the morning.

Miyoko, like Ikumi, tends to go the healthy, energizing road for breakfast but she does also prepare buns which everyone loves.

If Miyoko can’t prepare breakfast because she’s out or so, it’s either Terunori’s call or the kids go out themselves to eat out because they got too tired of waiting for their dad to wake up.

The Eizans (EtsuNe Family)

This family struggles to find time to breakfast together and when they do it’s usually on vacation, or on weekends.

Nene is the one who pushes the most for a breakfast together and when she sees the opportunity, she’ll go full out in preparation. And when the family sits together, no one is allowed to even look at his phone and ruin Nene’s precious family-together time.

Normally though, Nene & Masashi individually tend to prepare Miso-Soup or something for themselves, while Etsuya & Shigeo have gained a habit of eating out by getting something from a bakery, sit in some café or Etsuya lets his personal assistant get him (& whenever Shigeo has come to the company with him, him of course as well) something.

Kei alters between either getting something from his mom or Masashi or getting himself something outside as well.

The Saitos (SoMomo Family)

Momo often ends up making breakfast on weekends, although Kiyoko Saito later takes on the task as she’s awake earlier. Anyway this is some very sweet, Instagram-worthy stuff.

Waffles, yogurts with fruits, macarons, croissants, fine jam.....That kind-off stuff. Though Momo never fails to prepare one miso-soup and a bowl of rice, as this is all Somei asks for.

In the week, Somei is the one preparing bentos. His daughter Moe ended up helping him out at a rather young age, as she thought that the bentos could be a lot cuter. Moe ended up developing a passion for bentos through that and on Totsuki she always wakes up early and makes one for her big sister Kiyoko & also Shigeo. Moe’s bentos are legendary.

Whenever Kiyoko is in any-sort off city, she really likes eating breakfast at various cafés. Sometimes she takes Masashi with her.

The Tsukasas (for @blas-i-us *blows kiss*, but yes EiRin Family)

I think I’m gonna make it a running gag that this family rarely eats breakfast at a table, much to Eishi’s frustration. They often end up sitting on the couches in front of the fireplace or the children bring breakfast into their parent’s bed or so. When they do sit at a table, it’s usually outside during warm weather.

They do always eat together though. And they prepare it together as well. The Tsukasa children started to participate at breakfast-preparation. In fact they often end up starting the preparation as they’re awake first.

Lots of cheese, because they live in Switzerland.

Tsubame Tsukasa also tends to collect ingredients from the outside by running out into the morning rays and picking berries, mushrooms etc.
