158° Resenha do dia One Piece - Volume 2 (Edição 3 em 1) . . Manga especial Mensal com História e Artes por Eichiro Oda, contém 576 páginas e compila os capítulos 27-53 by One Piece de 1997 first published in Japan, Shueisha Inc. Tokyo, relançado em formato especial 3 em 1 pela @paninimangasbr em 2022. . . Eu que sempre quis acompanhar o mangá de One Piece e por diversos motivos acabava por deixar passar e daí já ficava inviável pela quantidade de volumes já lançados, por isso resolvi acompanhar o anime, hoje estou atualizado na saga atual saga de wano, episódio 1033 e pra quem quer começar a conhecer e acompanhar essa obra tem uma coisa essencial para isso: muita paciência! . . Digo paciência porque além da quantidade de capítulos também tem a diferença visual que é muito grande dos iniciais para com os atuais (afinal estamos falando de um obra que tem mais de 20 anos no ar) e uma coisa é certa: VALE MUITOO A PENA! . . One Piece é muito divertido de se ler, tem ação e humor na medida certa, além da interação dos personagens serem muito boas, claro que fica bem difícil falar do quesito história aqui, pois se trata de uma versão compilada dos volumes 4, 5 e 6 . . Antes de rumarem a Grand Line, Os destaques ficam por conta de Luffy e Usopp que após ter passado a integrar o bando dos chapéus de palha, ajuda Luffy a frustrar os planos do Capitão Kuro, um pirata temido disfarçado com planos se assassinar Kaya uma jovem muito rica e influente da ilha, Sanji tem destaque também como cozinheiro e um embate contra outros chefes, no famoso capítulo os três cozinheiros e ainda tem Zoro e Mihawk, olhos de gavião o maior espadachim do mundo. . . Os desenhos aqui já estão bem mais caprichados em relação aos capítulos anteriores, bom ao menos eu tive essa sensação, os traços são sempre expressivos e retratam muito bem a cena demonstrada, Eichiro Oda é muito habilidoso e fica muito a vontade para nós provar isso. you don't think 'Rin's' development will be pretty straightforward from now on? I mean she's young here, she'll need to grow up a bit and learn to handle a weapon-every 'gun' in existence if I remember right, then her career of killing people starts. And however she comes to Sebastian's notice she does and he figures she's better used than disposed of, assuming her loyalty may be won. Right?

【Reaction to Summary & Thoughts Kuro 158】

I do think the development of Rin‘s life will be fairly straightforward, so indeed following the steps you say: grow up, learn how to handle firearms, become a tool for killing.

What I wrote in the previous post but was a bit vague about, is that I wonder how the Chinese mafia is going to keep Meyrin loyal to them. (How O!Ciel is going to keep Meyrin’s is very obvious.)

Loyalty to the Chinese Mafia

Meyrin is a super dangerous one-man army, so what makes her not turn her back on the mafia, kill every obstacle and escape the moment she acquires the means (skills and weapons)? Did the mafia use addictive drugs on her for example? Or did she learn to appreciate her life at the mafia? There is no reason for the mafia to mistreat her, after all.

Of course it is possible that Meyrin had escaped the mafia already before Sebastian found her, but I find it unlikely that she would go attack O!Ciel without someone’s command. So I assume she did so at the Chinese mafia’s bidding.

Impressing a Demon

The second thing I was regrettably vague about in my phrasing, was how Meyrin managed to impress Sebas. The answer seems obvious, but please hear me out.

Meyrin is a hyper-accurate sniper; if she was indeed after O!Ciel’s life, then she does not need a second chance to hit his head if she wants to (and all the more so because the boy is hardly a moving target at home).

So did Meyrin fire a bullet straight for the boy’s head, only for the bullet to be caught midway by Sebastian? But still, one bullet (almost) hitting its target from afar is hardly a feat that can impress Sebastian - he has seen a LOT. (I mean, even Lizzie only managed to impress Sebas a tiny bit. And she’s a little child!)

Sebas must have approached Meyrin first before he could learn that she doesn’t need a scope to hit any target. That is what is truly extraordinary about her.

The second thing that is extraordinary about her is that she can wield rifles like small guns. But it is very unlikely that Sebastian could have learned about this during their first encounter, because like I said: Meyrin doesn’t need a second chance to hit her target. As such, she wouldn’t have brought multiple rifles on a stealth mission.

Sebastian was trained to spare at least one life so they could be interrogated, and that is probably what saved Meyrin from immediately getting her throat slit. But still, was one impressive feat enough to get her in Sebastian and O!Ciel’s good book after her murder attempt? Unlike with Snake, this time O!Ciel was incredibly unhappy with his assailant. With snake he was just... surprised.

This brings us back to where I started: why did Meyrin not escape the mafia the moment she could, was one extraordinary feat enough to impress Sebastian and O!Ciel who have seen a lot, and how did Meyrin get into their good book?

The following is just for the future, but will there be chapters on O!Ciel ordering for the annihilation of the mafia that was after his arse? If so, wouldn’t it be awesome if Sebas and Meyrin could have a team-mission, as surely Meyrin knows the mafia hideout in and out.

I hope for some awesome sniper x demon action! Yana did say she loves drawing action scenes most! PLEASE YANAAAA

Here are some of my intial thoughts about Kuroshitsuji chapter 158.

The more I see of Mey-Rin as a child, the more she looks like our Ciel to me. Hahaha

It seems like Mey-Rin has been "used" for her abilities most of her life. Like, maybe that is her normal, her expectation of human interaction. The cost of "belonging," protection and survival.

This also might shead light on her feelings about being our Ciel's servant. While yes she was "recruited" by Sebastian for her abilities, she was also offered the opportunity to improve herself through education and learning new skills. She was provided for in a way that (according to Jane) was unusual for that time. Then there is the comradery she feels with the other servants, who have become a surrogate family for her. This chapter and the last has revealed how Mey-Rin has tragically lost family and support structures in the past. Might this be a clue to how she will react to preserve what she has as a Phantomhive servant.

The above point makes me wonder how much of this situation is basically how Phantomhives have traditionally groomed loyalty into those in their service and how much of this treatment stems from Sebastian's abilities to seduce humans to his will.

This chapter has strengthened my expectation that Mey-Rin will accept Jane's offer. She is a survivor and by accepting she insures her survival for a little longer. It is also the best way to protect Ran-mao and do what she can to follow our Ciel's orders to destroy the operation.

Finally, this chapter has me speculating if Mey-Rin's origin story is also part of the story of how Lao gained power and his connection with our Ciel. I'm wondering if Mey-Rin was sent to remove our Ciel as part of a power struggle early in OC's career as the Guard dog. And if the results of this decision led to Mey-Rin's employment as a Phantomhive servant and Lao's rise to power. This would also explain Lao's tendency to loyalty (as much as his position alows) towards our Ciel.

Edited to add:

After glancing at the chapter again, I considered it in light of one of my theories about the identities of the Star Lords: that the Star Lords will be those with a connection to the Phantomhive servant's past. This would be a "mirror" to our Ciel's life. It could also serve to be a way to separate the servants from our Ciel. So, when I look at this guy...

and consider the implications of the final line in this chapter "You'll... be our brother from today," I can't help speculate that we may have found a possible candidate for Polaris. As a bizarre doll, his size and strength could realistically be match for Agni whose focus was on protecting his prince.

That Butler, Foreign Grounds: Living on using my Little Power

In the previous chapter (157) we get introduced to young Rin, a young orphan using her gift to survive.

The chapter ends with her and her companions plan for a bigger catch.

Rin and her companions planned to use the grand opera that would draw many rich people as their ultimate chance to make their big catch.

The night started as always, as narrated on the last page of the previous chapter. But little did they know that the largest prize so far would also bring them the largest trouble.

The target was the wife of a powerful man with powerful henchmen. The Chinese Mafia.【Source by Yana on Twitter】

Just when Yan and his brother ran off happily with the prize, they were caught by a colossal member of said mafia.

“Ouch! What are you doing!”

“Hey! Let go of my big brother!”

The boys were brought before the don of the Mafia where they were questioned.

“You sure have some guts to lay hands on the woman of the boss,” the don spoke, to which Yan replied: “ah my bad, I’ll give this back.”

““My bad”? You think saying “sorry” is enough to help you get away from stealing from others!?” the don mercilessly yelled. “Now, how are we going to make you pay te debt? This one wounded the ear of a woman, I hear that livers of children make very good medicine that can fetch a good price......”

“It wasn’t us who shot her! The one who shot the earring is over there!” the children immediately blurted out.

Consequently, the mafia make their way up the rooftop where they find Rin. Without a second delay, the don orders for the colossal man to heave the boys over the edge of opera roof.

“W-what are you doing? Stop!” Rin begged, and the mafia returned to her. “Boy, I give you two paths. One: you shall take aim at the opera house’s visitors and shoot their earrings. If you succeed you will be spared. Or two: the three of you will perform some air acrobatics for me.”

Yan begs for Rin to save them, and though terrified herself, Rin scrapes together her courage and boldly proclaims that she will save her companions.

“G-got it! I’ll do it! I’ll do it so bring Yan back [onto the roof]!”

Despite her nervousness and the high stakes, Rin successfully hits an earring, convincing and impressing the don with her amazing talent.

“Are you for real, I can’t believe you actually hit it...”

“Now do as you promised and let go of Yan and his brother!” Rin demanded, and the don complied.

“Alright, just as promised,” he ‘let go’ of the brothers and ‘spared Rin’. The boys dropped to their deaths, shocking everyone beneath the roof.

“Those kids sold you out, you know, boy? There is no need to meet cold-hearted scoundrels with your warm sentiments. Boy, your eyes have quite some utility value. From today on you shall join us as our brother.”

With this ominous words the chapter ends.

And thus the Chinese Mafia was introduced which is probably the start of her darker future career; the assassin.

Last month I though that Rin might have targeted O!Ciel’s Phantomhive ring or something, making her an enemy to the boy. Rin’s involvement with these ruthless mafia member however, makes it more probable that Rin’s future encounter with O!Ciel and Sebastian would be at much higher stakes. So rather than the potential ring, perhaps it will be O!Ciel’s life she would be after.

This is no more than wild speculation, but if Rin was truly after O!Ciel’s life, then what would make Sebastian interested enough to scout her instead of finishing her off like all other assailants?

More importantly, what made O!Ciel soften his black little heart, and not order Sebas to do the finishing job? O!Ciel was clearly not very happy to meet Rin, after all. It makes one wonder who of the two was the first to suggest Meyrin to become part of the Phantomhive household.

The introduction of the Chinese Mafia made my memories of the Chinese Footbinding Drama CD resurface. The script of that side-story was written by Okada Mari. Though entertaining, the story did contain some alarmingly racist and unnecessarily pedophilic content.

Would the current character arc of Meyrin be Yana’s way of reclaiming Chinese related content? Would this be where she starts paving a path towards meeting Lau, the person who made O!Ciel’s hiding from R!Ciel possible in the first place?

Regardless I mostly wonder: how will Rin be used by the mafia? She said that other than killing there was nothing else she could do. Was she turned into a mass-destruction weapon? Through what means? How did the mafia make sure she would stay loyal to them?

I am very curious to see how Meyrin’s character arc will go!

Hello, Isolans! We have conducted an activity check for the month of November!

The blogs that were removed from the Isola Radiale masterlist are under the cut. Note that both blogs with broken links and deactivated accounts will be included both at the top of this list and in their proper categories.

If you were removed in error, please simply send a re-application message. Several different people work on the activity checks, so it’s possible there are mistakes! If this happens to you, you will be able to keep everything you previously had, you just may be placed in a different residence.

Our general activity rules regarding checks are as follows:

Make at least three in-character posts during a calendar month (for instance, if the activity check is for January, have three in-character posts between the 1st and 31st of January).

Only one drabble and/or meme response of 300+ words counts as activity.

One-liners or minis not tagged #isola mini also do not count.

Please Note: If you are removed during two consecutive activity checks, you will not be allowed to re-apply as that character for two calendar months.

Additionally, anyone removed during the activity check will have a 12-hour window from the time of posting to re-claim their character. Any character not reclaimed during that period will be open to the community at large.
