Parties aren’t really your thing, you’ve decided.
Well, military parties, at least. Alright, to call this function a “party” would be giving it a great deal more praise than warranted - What it really is is a large charity gala hosted by General Kazansky, one in which only the highest-ranking officers and lieutenants are privy to attend. And somehow, you’ve made your way inside.
It all comes with the job. You suppose you should have known that being the secretary of a Vice Admiral would get you on the guest list of one of these… things, eventually.
In due course, your superior had said to you when you inquired on the possibility of these out-of-office functions. You’ll be representing a part of my office.
That’s why you’re now smoothening down your dress for the umpteenth time tonight, flashing your politest half-smile at some retired general in front of you. You don’t have a clue what he’s talking about - Something about the Top Gun programme, which, of course, you’re extremely familiar with by now. And, bored of having mansplained to you.
“-But you know, in all my years of flying and instructing at Top Gun, I’ve never, ever,” here the general laughs, and you smile politely, albeit distractedly, back, “Come across a man as brave - and as stupid - as Pete fuckin’ Mitchell.”
You blink, surprised. Pete Mitchell. Lieutenant. Or is he Captain, now? Well, whatever he is, you know him by-
Maverick.
It’s a name you’re familiar with, one that carries a tugging of heartstrings and brings a lump in your throat when you think about it.
The admired pilot with balls of steel and a nerve to match. Always hitting the mark on missions, but always defying the higher-ups while doing so. The man, the myth, the legend - Your one who got away.
Your memories of Maverick are a blurry daze of sweltering late-nights, legs tangled up in bedsheets, tracing stars on his back. Giggles smothered by messy kisses. Warm hands on your waist.
The empty bed when you awoke. The lonely nights that only grew longer once you realised -
He wasn’t coming back.
You still aren’t sure what exactly happened in your short stint with Pete Mitchell. You’d been head over heels for him, and you’d been so sure he felt the same - But as soon as you were ready to call what you two had love, he’d been called away to a mission in Iraq. Leaving you with nothing but a five-minute long call and a hesitating “I’ll miss you”.
You’d met when you were but a temporary administrative assistant at the Air Station, tasked with doing impossibly insignificant tasks, like filing papers and delivering coffee.
And Maverick? He’d been the suave golden boy who visited you at breaks, who asked around the office to find out which flowers were your favourite, who taught you how to play - and win - pool for the first time.
You fell for him instantly.
But that was all months ago, almost a year from now, so you don’t want to get your hopes up. You and Maverick, you try to convince yourself, are a thing of the past.
Still, you find yourself scouring the party for the rest of the night, cautiously sipping on your glass of champagne, praying to any God left. Though, praying for what, you don’t quite know.
You bid a hasty goodbye to the general and slip away as fast as you can. The flute in your hand is empty and screaming for refill. You have the feeling you’ll need it tonight.
Sighing, you make your way to the bar, silently gesturing to the bartender. As you rest your chin on your palm, eyes travelling through the crowd, you feel a tap on your shoulder.
Jumping, you whip around, only to hear a surprised “Shit!”. Then, something wet, dripping, on your arm.
“God, Y/N, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to-” The stranger laughs in frustration, running a hand through his hair. “Jeez, this is not how I planned for this to go.”
Then it hits you.
“Maverick?” you say, feeling your cheeks heat up, involuntarily.
A small smile graces the features of the man before you.
“The one and only.”
Your heart - stupidly - does a little flip.
He looks good, dammit. Too good. It seems that in the weeks and months that have passed since you last saw him, he only got better - A better pilot, and better looking.
All these months, these days and nights, holding back tears of silent, unwilling yearning. All that crumbles in the face of his glorious, unwavering, being. All this time, and you’re still drawn to him. Magnetic.
“Here,” he begins to shrug off his suit jacket, “Take this.”
“Mav, that’s really not necess-”
“No, I insist.” He hands you his coat. “It’s the least I can do for ruining your dress. I just hope I haven’t ruined your night.”
You smile half-heartedly, shrugging before turning back to search for your missing flute of champagne. “Not really much to ruin, I suppose.”
You feel his gaze - soft, firm - as he helps you into his coat jacket. “So, how’ve you been?”
You’re unable to stop the scoff that escapes past your lips, and you don’t miss the slight frown that makes its way across Maverick’s face.
“How have I been?” you repeat emptily, observing the hurt that flits across your face.
“Is it a crime to ask?”
“Well, no, but considering you up and left my life like I was nothing, I guess I didn’t expect you to be at all interested in ‘how I’ve been’.” Your words come out in a breathless, angry rush, a flood of hurt and bottled up emotions threatening to break loose.
Something in his eyes deflates, and remorse courses through you. You try to ignore the way your heart hurts at the way his face crumples.
“I’m sorry,” he says quietly, rubbing his face, guilt written all over his face.
“Do you even know what you’re sorry for?”
It’s meant to come out harsh; An aimed jab at your shared history, complicated and short-lived as it was. But it instead leaves your mouth sounding like a plea, a quiet play at his heartstrings.
Maverick seems to relent, however, averting his gaze.
“I know.
"It was stupid of me. It was stupid of me to leave you, to not call, to pretend like what we had was nothing. But the truth, Y/N, the whole and honest truth, is that I was afraid. I was scared and I was a coward because I couldn’t face that what I felt for you was- was-”
His voice cracks, and your heart thrums. It beats for him.
“…It was love.”
Your breath hitches, and all at once, the world goes quiet. It’s a stupid cliche, overdone and overwrought, but the moment those words leave his mouth, everything else fades away.
No wine on the front of your dress. No bartender working behind the counter. No superiors to appease, no unnamed generals to smile at, no life-threatening missions to worry about, no distractions.
Just you and him.
Maverick gives a weak smile, laughing quietly in embarrassment. “But I guess I’m too late, huh?”
You frown. “What?”
He shrugs, though the jealousy glinting in his eyes betrays his faux nonchalance.
Nodding towards your boss mingling amongst the crowd, Maverick says, haltingly, “Your husband, right?”
You splutter, eyes going wide.
“No, no-” you hurry to correct, “-That’s my boss! I’m just- I’m his secretary, see.”
Maverick lets out a soft “Oh” of surprise. A soft blush settles over his cheeks.
You resist the urge to reach up and cup his face.
“So…” he ventures, hesitating. “You’re… single?”
You laugh lightly, nodding. “Indeed I am.”
A moment of silence lapses, though it’s a comforting one; Maverick smiles, and you’re pleasantly surprised to find that his jacket - after all this time - still feels just as right.
“Did you mean it? That you loved me?”
At the word “loved”, Maverick seems to flinch.
Was that not what he meant? That he loved you? It was love that he had for you, it was love that you had for each other. He said it himself for Christ’s sake.
Just as you’re about to double down, he speaks, his words rushed, “Iloveyounotloved.”
You blink.
What?
You stutter, with your heart in your throat and your lungs on fire, “I- You… love- You love…”
“I love you.”
Maverick’s eyes shine with hope, and you feel your heart clench and unclench and do a million somersaults.
“You do. You love me.”
He laughs, breathless, carelessly running a hand through his hair. “God. Yes. Of course I do, sweetheart, I’ve loved you ever since I first met you. I’ve loved you ever since you gave me that pink pen and laughed and said my signature looked good in pink. I’ve loved you ever since I first woke up to you beside me and I’ve loved you every morning since. I’m so fucking sorry I couldn’t be the man you needed, the man you deserve.”
He smiles sheepishly now, rubbing a hand on the back of his neck. “I get that this is all really… really sudden, so I totally get if you want me to go and disappear from your life-”
“No!”
The conviction in your voice surprises even yourself, and you wrench yourself away from him.
Embarrassed, you say, tentatively, “I want you to stay.”
Maverick blinks. “Huh?”
“I want you to stay,” you say, louder, but still soft enough so that he has to cup his hands over his ears and mouth “What?”.
You sigh in frustration, nearly yelling as you exclaim, “I WANT YOU TO STAY!”
An unsettling silence settles over the whole party, and you blush, not missing the pointed - but amused - glance your boss sends you.
But that doesn’t matter. All of it - the disapproving frowns of generals, the raised eyebrows of fellow party-goers, the snickers and chuckles rising from the crowd - none of it holds any weight. Not when Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is standing in front of you, smiling like he just won the lottery.
And he practically did, he thinks.
“Alright, I’ll stay, you don’t have to yell,” Maverick grins cheekily, wrapping an arm around you. His chest is strong and warm against you.
“Promise you won’t be going anywhere?” you murmur, leaning your head against his sturdy frame.
A deep laugh rumbles in his chest, and you fight back a smile at the familiar sensation. Butterflies erupt in your stomach and threaten to spill.
“I promise.”

By Blood or By Choice pt. 8
It was just another Tuesday morning in the WVBA Cafeteria. The hustle and bustle of fighters, staff, and trainees fueling up for the day ahead with a healthy breakfast expertly prepared by Giovanni and his kitchen staff. Among those having breakfast were Mika and Luna, Luna animatedly recounting something.
“It was like, so surreal, you know?” Luna’s hands moved back and forth as she gestured widely, describing her experience. “Those charity boxing matches influencers and streamers can get intense! We train hard and take it seriously. And my first fight? There I was, gloves up, facing off against this girl who’s like, a legend in the Let’s Play community, in the ring, no edits, no second takes, about to throw hands. It was just… wow!”
Mika listened, her lips curving into a smile, “Talagang. I know the rush. Fighting a pro, it’ll be a totally different experience, but the spirit… the spirit’s the same, alam mo?”
Luna nodded, “Exactly! It’s that… that raw excitement. Even when it’s a charity event, the ring has this way of stripping everything down to… I don’t know… the core of who you are? That’s why when I got the invite to join the WVBA, to fight against pros, like you? How could I say no?”
“All about that XP grind, huh?” Mika asked with a chuckle.
Luna’s eyes twinkled with excitement, “You know it, girl! I’m gonna level up like no one’s ever seen. One day, I’m gonna be the final boss around here.”
As both girls laughed, the beginnings of a friendship forming quickly, a figure dressed in sleek workout gear caught Luna’s eye. “O-M-G! Mika, isn’t that Gemma Golden?” she whispered, her voice somewhere between disbelief and starstruck.
Mika turned to follow Luna’s gaze, finding the woman making her way across the cafeteria. “Gemma who?” she murmured, a small frown creasing her brow as she failed to place the familiar face.
"Gemma Golden," Luna said, her voice hushed but tinged with excitement. "The actress? The model? You know, 'Above Suspicion,' the British drama with the complex characters and all the true crime plots."
Mika’s eyes widened as she recognized the woman, "Wait? I’ve seen that show.” Mika turned back to Luna, “You’re right. That’s her! But what's she doing here?"
Luna's eyes were fixed on Gemma, who seemed to be navigating through the tables directly toward them. "I don’t know, but she's coming over here! I can't believe it, Gemma Golden, in our cafeteria!"
Gemma approached with a friendly ease, her practiced smile a sharp contrast to the wide-eyed excitement on Luna's face. "Pardon me," Gemma began, her British accent unmistakable, "would you be Star Mika?"
Mika, with a mix of politeness and curiosity, nodded, "That’s me. And this is Luna Doll," she introduced, her hand gesturing to the starstruck streamer.
Luna's words came tumbling out in a rush. "I'm such a big fan of your work! ‘Above Suspicion’, ‘Avalon Arms’, ‘The Professor’, I’ve seen all of them and you’re just amazing!"
Gemma's practiced smile widened, her voice carrying a well rehearsed warmth, "Always so lovely to meet a fan." She then turned her attention to Mika, "Could I have a moment of your time? Privately."
Luna, though slightly confused, picked up on the cue. "Oh, uh, sure," she said, sliding her chair back. "Mika, we still good for the gym later?"
Mika nodded, reassuring her. "Sure thing! Can’t wait to see what you got.."
Once Luna had moved out of earshot, Mika gestured to a chair, her tone inviting. "Please, sit. What can I do for you, Miss Golden?"
Gemma sat down and leaned in, her carefully cultivated image slipping a bit to reveal an undercurrent of urgency. She took a deep breath, "I'm actually here to train for a new movie I’m starring in called 'The Birmingham Butterfly.' It's about a young female boxer who comes up from nothing to... well, you know how these stories go."
Mika's eyes sparkled, clearly taken with the idea. "That sounds amazing! Congratulations!"
A flicker of nervousness crossed Gemma's face as she glanced around the cafeteria. "Thank you, but I need your help..."

Moonbeam Arcade and Bowling, 2005
Ronnie's tennis shoes crunched on glass as she entered the empty arcade, careful not to scrape her knees and palms. Her legs were already plastered with multicolored band-aids from previous adventures that month; school had let out two weeks ago, and this was the third place to check off on her list of things she wanted, needed, to do this summer. "Gotta bout a month. Then its back to it." She had told Sam. Now, Sam was holding a flashlight between his teeth, working a splinter of glass from his palm.
The place has been mostly gutted, as they had expected. Geometric grime on the floor was all that was left of some arcade games. A plastic panel with the words "Space Rocketer" was left behind from one of them. Black wires hung from the ceiling from what used to be neon lights, and the peppered light from the black smeared windows cast a gloom over the place. Surprisingly, the place wasn't tattooed with graffiti.
"Yknow why this place was shut down right?" Ronnie said. "Shut down after one charity night event. One. Said it was held by the police department to raise money for missing people 'round town."
"Missing people? Huh. Spooky."
"Sure is. Heard it was over a game too. They brought it some kind of game where you could match faces to the missing people's pictures. Someone got so scared they died."
"You don't die because you're scared. Heart attack?" Sam said, annoyed at the sound of the sticky floor.
"I'm guessing."
Neither of them knew any missing people, but they had heard stories. A boy at their school had vanished at a time when their parents attended, and security had been upped for about two days. They talked about police cars milling about the roads near rivers and bridges, but Ronnie's dad, who had known the boy, claimed he wasn't "stupid like that". But whatever happened to the boy faded into town legend and tragedy, and his picture, a smiling kid in a camo baseball hat, was hung up in honor of him. It was the best they could do.
After rummaging around boxes of outdated electronics, there wasn't much else. The place wasn't huge; Ronnie remembered talk that they would expand the place with a skating rink, but that never came to fruition. While Sam looked over washed out wall art of shooting stars, moons, and ufos (all the aliens inside held up peace signs.) Ronnie bit back her diappointment. She'd beg ber parents to stop whenever they passed by here every other day on the way home from the grocery store to let her look inside, to see what creepiness lurked inside the abandoned arcade. She closed her eyes and tried to recall the sounds of hundreds of games pinging off and buzzing and singing around her, but it was empty, and not even the ghost remained.
"Thats about it, huh?" Sam wiped his hands on his jeans. "So much for that- hey now." His expression changed. His nose scrunched up as he neared the back of the room. "Ronnie, ugh. Smell that?"
Ronnie paused to sniff the stale air. "Rat crap."
"Nah nah I know that." He pressed on the purple painted wall with his shoulder. "Rat crap, but what do rats like?"
"Cheese?"
"Nacho cheese, sure. And popcorn. I bet there's a-" he tested the wall again, "concession stand stashed back here. Maybe more stuff." Ronnie began to pry at the back wall too. The slight crinkle of wall paper tearing met their ears, and Sam fell forward as the wall gave way.
Dust and plaster swirled in the air, but surprisingly, they weren't met with darkness in the hidden hall. The harsh glow of fluorescents lit up their features eerily as Ronnie helped Sam up. She would have laughed at him, but there was a chill running through her. "What the heck man?" Sam pulled plaster from his hair. His eyes got wide. "You don't think anyone's still here?" Ronnie shook her head.
"No. It doesn't feel like it."
The room was older than the first room. The ceiling was nearly rotten, and the smell of rat waste and mildew was soaked into everything. It reminded Sam of an abandoned shoe store he has explored earlier, where the ceiling had a gaping hole and rain wster poured in freely and ate away anything it touched. That was his first adventure of the summer, but something in this room made this one, the third, feel like it would be his last. "Ronnie. Ronnie, I don't think we should looking through here."
Ronnie touched his shoulder. "Hey, just five minutes? Alright? Then we'll high-tail it."
Sam was the first to see the papers. Taped to the wall, dozens of papers, yellowed with time, moved slightly with the warm current of air from the door they had opened. Newspaper cut outs. The faces where blurred, and by what Sam could see, it wasn't by age. No, the faces were swirled. Stretched. Pulled and twisted like taffy. One man had his eyes pushed into his face, his lips pulled over his nose. One woman had her hands covering her face, but soggy flesh dribbled from between her fingers, like she was attempting to hold herself together. MISSING. MISSING. MISSING. MISSING. MISSING. Sam could barely get the words out. "We gotta leave. Please."
There were arcade games galore, colorful in primary colors, but the text for the games remained unreadable, smudged beyond repair. None of the screens reflected anything, and when Ronnie popped a quarter into a racing game, only a slight buzz (which was enough to make her jump) emitted from it. A ride with rocking horses stared out with green marble eyes, paint scuffed. They looked distressed, as if running away.
"How long has this placed been closed?" Sam squeezed past two shooter games, the silhouettes of zombies and a big man with a big gun remained on the sides. Plastic tokens, gold and pink and blue, were scattered on the puke yellow and pink carpet, but Sam couldnt help but notice a pattern, moving in a straight line to follow down the florescent-humming hall.
They caught their breaths outside, unable to feel the oppressive July heat in their flight. The sun had just started to set, and the sound of crickets, after the long bout of silence, was nearly overwhelming. "That was...weird." Sam knew it was an understatement. "Weird as hell."
"Hmm? What-ouch!" Ronnie bumped her head on the display case where tickets could get exchanged for toys and candy, full of powder-dusty teddy bears and inflatable swords. Rubbing her head, she peered over the machines, looking for Sam's mess of hair. He looked awful lonely down the hall, awfully small. "What is it? Found a ghost?"
Sam could just point at the papers. Ronnie knew suddenly. She sat down a pile of plastic junk she was holding and made her way over. She peeled one off of the wall. A missing poster. This one was of a child, crying, little hands pulling at his ears until they bled. MISSING.
"Hell is right." Sam leaned on a telephone pole. "Oh my gosh man."
They became really quiet for a moment, even after the panic had pulled away from them. "Yknow," Sam said, breaking the silence, grinning, "we still didn't find the concession stand." They just blinked for a second, and Ronnie burst out laughing, smacking him on the arm. "Youre not right man. I think we were supposed to be the snacks."

The Story Section of her old website:
"Combine the violin mastery of Nigel Kennedy, the voice of an alien Siouxsie/Bowie hybrid, and the looks of a post-apocalyptic Marie Antoinette, and what do you get? Emilie Autumn. The pink-haired princess of "victoriandustrial" has already morphed her way from classically trained violin prodigy to extreme rock performer with the ability to shred on a fiddle à la Yngwie, and with a cult following to match.
After spending a summer in France recording with Courtney Love at Ms. Love's express command, Emilie was invited to join Love's touring band,"The Chelsea," and was appropriately dubbed the "anarchy violinist" by Love. Next thing you knew, she was performing live on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and on national television with Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame, while appearing on the solo debut albums of both Corgan and Love. Emilie quickly gained attention as a solo performer in her own right, and was chosen as one of Interview Magazine's "14 To Be," a pictorial featuring 14 up-and-coming young female stars. Shot by famed fashion photographer Kelly Klein, and wearing a Helmut Lang gown while sprawled on a large wooden tea crate, Emilie was chosen as the magazine's centerfold posing with her signature electric violin. Now, EA is setting her sights on the rest of the world with the release of her new album, "Opheliac" on the Trisol Music Group label, released in Europe on the 1st of September 2006, and worldwide on the 22nd.
BACKGROUND:
Brought up as a concert violinist since age four, and trained in conservatoires around the world as a performer, composer, conductor, and music historian, EA's bizarre background is the element that makes her music so exceptional. The blending of authentic baroque strings, harpsichord, and factory-derived industrial beats with vocal techniques from soul-searing belts to snarling screams creates an positively dangerous feel, only compounded by EA's dark and uber-literate lyrics.
After walking away from her first major label contract at age 17, EA returned to her classical roots and released her solo violin debut album, "On a Day...," with the label she created and still controls, the aptly titled Traitor Records. Since the creation of her own production company, EA has branched out to create a number of side projects (The Jane Brooks Project, Ravensong, Convent), and is delighted to be collaborating with other artists including Detroit techno legend DJT1000, UK industrial giant, Attrition, fellow Chicagoans, Die Warzau, and many more creative entities ranging from industrial legends to television shows (EA frequently contributes her violin playing to the hit American TV series "Metalocalypse," a cartoon about a ficitional metal band airing weekly on Adult Swim).
With Enchant a proven success in the indie world, Emilie returned from two years of touring and recording with Love to begin production on her second full-length non-classical offering entitled, "Opheliac." Written in the style EA calls "victoriandustrial," her new heavily industrial sound takes "gothic" to a whole new level - sinister, witty, and combining her trademark violin pyrotechnics with growling vocals, virtuosic harpsichord, and electro-industrial beats. A concept album about "women, water, and madness," song titles include, "Gothic Lolita," "Dead Is The New Alive," "The Art Of Suicide," "I Want My Innocence Back", and "Misery Loves Company."
EA's previous releases include the solo violin debut album, "On a Day...," recorded at age 17 and showcasing her mastery of the baroque violin, "By The Sword," her charity single in response to the 9/11 attacks, "Chambermaid," her first goth-rock EP, and of course, "Enchant." Emilie also appears on Courtney Love's 2004 release, "America's Sweetheart" on Virgin Records, and is a featured guest on Billy Corgan's 2005 solo release, "The Future Embrace" on Warner Records.
OTHER ACTIVITIES:
When EA is not recording or touring, she designs for "Mistress," her own fashion and fragrance line for her own indie-couture company, WillowTech House. Notorious for her own visionary "punktorian" stage costumes, EA's design skills were put to use when she was asked to design and create all of the costumes for the music video for "Walking Shade," Corgan's first single off his 2005 album, directed by P.R. Brown.
EA is also a prolific writer and illustator, releasing and quickly selling out of her first volume of poetry in 2001. 2005 saw the release of her second poetry edition complete with audio version entitled, "Your Sugar Sits Untouched," offered by WillowTech House Publishing. EA is currently putting the finishing touches on the illustrations for her gothic children's book for adults only, "The Alphabet Book of X-Boyfriends."
Originally from Malibu, California, EA is now a proud Chicagoan, and can most often be found at nightspots such as the Metro, Neo, and DoubleDoor as well as cavorting around the city's downtown in her Victorian bustle skirt, corset, and combat boots, attracting a ridiculous amount of attention.
The End.
For now..."

Emmerdale stars share their hidden talents at Danny Miller's charity extravaganza
Two different Emmerdale star bands performed in support of their co-star Danny Miller's annual charity ball in Manchester
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Emmerdale stars proved they're a talented bunch - showing off their singing and musical skills to support co-star Danny Miller's big charity ball in Manchester. Emmerdale favourite Danny, along with pal Daniel Jillings, run the Once Upon A Smile charity supporting families through bereavement.
Their annual fundraising ball has become know for its star guests and surprise star turns on the stage. This year was no different, with a packed night of entertainment at The Point at Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday night.
And Danny counted on the support of his friends when they also took to the stage for some powerhouse performances.
Bradley Johnson, who plays Emmerdale's Vinny Dingle wowed the audience performing with his band The Trilogies at the start of the night. The band are known for their take on swing classics, and they wore matching gold suits as they impressed with their vocal harmonies.
Then later Bradley joined up with more of his soap co-stars in the long-running Emmerdale band. Soap legend Dominic Brunt, aka Paddy Dingle, has been leading the band for years.
The band's current incarnation is called Somewhere near Hotten - a nod to one of Emmerdale's fictional locations. And they got the audience up and dancing at the big charity event at the weekend.
While Dominic is the bass player in the band, he was joined by Katie Hill, who plays the soap's Sarah Sugden, and Olivia Bromley, who plays Dawn Taylor.
Katie also had the audience in tears as she performed a stunning solo while one of the moving videos about those helped by the charity was played in the room.
The ball is organised by Danny and his fellow actor pal Daniel Jillings, who always like to spring special surprises for guests.
And at the finale of the night guests were wowed by performances from boyband 911 and Kelly Llorena.
Danny and Daniel first held their own charity event back in 2011, in memory of much-loved Emmerdale and former Corrie producer Gavin Blyth who died of cancer in 2010 aged just 41.
It would go on to inspire the duo to set up their own charity, Once Upon A Smile, offering child bereavement services across Greater Manchester.
They now have a dedicated headquarters, Sidley House in Old Trafford which opened in 2016, where youngsters can access bereavement support as well as a range of fun activities including play rooms, art workshop and a mini-cinema.

After years of yearning to meet his idol, the legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, fate finally intervened, leading him to an unexpected encounter with Ronaldo through a conversation with some of the player's family members. Both IShowSpeed and his enthusiastic chat couldn't contain their excitement as years of anticipation culminated in a single, unforgettable moment, all captured on video.
A Lifelong Fan Meets His Inspiration
IShowSpeed has been an ardent admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo for as long as he can remember. Even during his own football pursuits, such as the Sidemen charity match, an event he will soon attend again, Speed has consistently credited Ronaldo as his ultimate inspiration. It's no surprise considering that Cristiano Ronaldo is hailed as one of the biggest names in football. With his exceptional skills as one of the world's finest strikers, he has amassed fans from every corner of the globe. After tirelessly pursuing a meeting with Ronaldo for years, IShowSpeed's fate took a fortunate turn during a livestream, where he not only met the footballer himself but also had the opportunity to interact with some of Ronaldo's family members. The moment IShowSpeed met his hero was beyond words. Overwhelmed with emotion, he dropped to his knees, proudly displaying a tattoo he had gotten to honor Ronaldo's famous celebration. The shock of meeting his idol resonated with him for minutes, but he managed to regain his composure long enough to capture a few cherished pictures together. To make the encounter even more extraordinary, the entire event was caught on video. IShowSpeed's YouTube chat exploded with excitement, flooding the chat with celebration and expressing unwavering support for the streamer, who had eagerly awaited this momentous meeting with Ronaldo. This encounter with his idol surpasses any recent milestones IShowSpeed has achieved as one of YouTube's top streamers. It's a testament to his unwavering dedication and the impact that such a meeting can have on a lifelong fan. Adin Ross: IShowSpeed's Influence on Cristiano Ronaldo's Fame Shay Robson ❘ Published: Jun 18, 2023, 06:30 Adin Ross Claims IShowSpeed Made Cristiano Ronaldo More Famous Adin Ross, a prominent figure in the streaming community, recently shared his belief that IShowSpeed has played a significant role in elevating the fame of Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo. If you're familiar with IShowSpeed, you'll undoubtedly recognize his unwavering passion for Manchester United and his undeniable obsession with Cristiano Ronaldo. For years, this 18-year-old YouTuber has made multiple attempts to cross paths with the Portuguese football legend. Although he came close on several occasions, meeting some of Ronaldo's international teammates, the ultimate moment finally arrived on June 17. It was during this time that the young YouTuber had a long-awaited encounter with his idol as Ronaldo and his fellow teammates were departing the Estadio da Luz after a triumphant victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Adin Ross Acknowledges IShowSpeed's Influence Reacting to the video capturing the first meeting between IShowSpeed and Cristiano Ronaldo, Adin Ross openly expressed his belief that IShowSpeed's involvement has further amplified the global recognition of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. "Chat, let's be honest, do you think Speed made Ronaldo more famous?" Adin questioned during his live stream on June 17. "Honestly, think about it. I didn't know much about siu, I didn't know anything about hattricks, I didn't know anything about soccer in general, you know?" Adin continued, "In my opinion, he introduced his younger audience to Ronaldo, you know?" While Adin held this belief, his chat members didn't quite share the same sentiment. Many criticized the popular streamer, dismissing him as an "average American" for his lack of familiarity with football. "You can call me an average American all you want, but hey, whatever," Adin retorted. Conclusion IShowSpeed's long-awaited encounter with Cristiano Ronaldo serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that idols can have on their devoted fans. The meeting, documented in a captivating video, brought joy not only to IShowSpeed but also to the legions of supporters in his YouTube chat. R1 - Paternal Grandfather remembered - Part 1
This is a post that I wrote years ago, back in 2005!.. I am bringing it into this blog to keep everything in one place. Some of the content has been edited but the writing integrity preserved
Tumblr media
PAST PONDER
Background It has been almost 40 years since my Paternal Grandfather left for the heavens on August 13th 1983. I was still very young and this was the first personal tragedy that I have experienced in my life. Although it feels sad that I could not spend more time with this man, who I was named after, the silver lining on the clouds through which he must be watching me, is that I got to spend 6 years with him, during most of which, I was still a toddler. Lots of what I have described are rather blurred images from my brain and I will back it up with what I have heard from my family members over the years after his departure.
This post will exercise my memory more than most others and is dedicated to my Thatha (Grandpa).
What I know of the Man My thatha was born and raised in a small village in Tirunelveli, called Ravanasamudram, which happens to be our native place. He was a bright man and extremely sharp (of course my paati will blush whenever she says this, to date!). He was born into a large family, as was typical in his times. He was the third of seven children, 5 of them girls!
His father, my great grandfather, Parasuraman Iyer was a famous man himself in this village, but his wife, Meenamba was a legend! I experienced this first hand, when I went to my native place, where people identified me as the great grandson of Meenamba! I was told that, among other things, right after hearing the sound of an arriving train, she would match it by the whistles of her cooker in the kitchen and cook for a whole village. She would feed the rich and the poor, irrespective of their caste or creed. In short, she was a really generous and secular person, who would go out of her way to help people out without any expectations. She died at pretty young age peacefully. Looks like the Gods themselves could not wait to have her company and to taste her delicious food. I do not know much about my great grandfather, but from what I have heard, he was a strict disciplinarian, having been born in a Vadhyaar family (his father was Kittu Vadhyaar). He was shorter than my great grandmom, he outlived her, but not by too much. He was staying with my thatha and paati for a while before his demise as a middle aged man.
Surely in the days to come, my thatha would prove that it was in his genes to help. His mother has obviously imparted so much wisdom on spirituality and charity, that he would follow suit. He was fondly known as Periya Ambi, it was common in those days for the eldest of the sons. He completed high school and went to college in Palayamkottai during the pre-Independence days and was one of the bright stars among his siblings. No, there is no freedom fighter history to report, he was a normal person who wished for Indian independence and cherished it when it came.
He climbed up very well in his career and became an auditor in Dindigul district. That is where he met my Paati, when he was having lunch at a hotel owned by the latter’s family. She tells me that it was love at first sight! The cupid struck while she was serving the sambar. It is very funny the way she narrates it and still thinks that she, with a short hairdo, “the Bagavathar cut” , was way too much for my thatha, who she describes was not the most handsome of men around, especially since he still had a lot of scars from the small pox that he survived a few years ago. But surely, he was one of the most successful, yet my paati was a little reluctant about the whole thing. Anyways, this is no suspense Bollywood movie, since I am watching a flashback, and I already know that they were united together in a wedlock very soon!
In the years to come, their marriage was a total mixed bag, it had its high points and of course several lows. They had two kids almost back to back, a guy, my dad, and a girl, my aunt. My great grandfather lived with them for a while before he met his end and my paati’s sister was assisting her take care of the kids. My thatha really took good care of all of them whilst they were all in Dindigul. My thatha was keen on expanding his career and hence took up a job with the Standard Chartered Bank, where he was in charge of the accounts. Her is where he took his philantrophic nature a bit too far. He took some money out of the bank treasury to help out a good friend, who promised to return the money before anyone who cared for it, missed it. My thatha having seen only good people in his life, starting from his mom, trusted him with the money. Now, it may seem like a Bollywood movie or a Gokulam magazine story, but this guy cheated my thatha.
This led to severe and serious circumstances. He lost his job in the bank and the police were on the lookout for him. He found no alternative but to flee, since if he was caught, there is no way his family would survive! He took his family, which comprised of two small kids and a young wife and left them at his elder sister’s place at Dehu Road, near Pune and without waiting for too long, he rushed off into hiding. The little kids and the wife had no alternative but to pray and hope that their chief will return soon to take them back home. Well… I am beginning to realize that perhaps this post can go on for a while.. so I am going to take a break to scratch my head a little bit more before I continue writing…

Published: May 19, 2022
Four years ago, when social media darlings and brothers Jake and Logan Paul first entered the world of boxing, it was met with groans and skepticism from casual and hardcore boxing fanatics.
Many believed that the YouTube celebrities were making a mockery of the sport and taking away opportunities from true pugilists. However, the money and the interest generated by non-boxing fans got the attention of some of boxing's most prominent names bringing forth an influx of exhibition bouts from formerly retired fighters.
Most notably, Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. faced off in an exhibition match in November 2020 that earned over 1 million pay-per-view buys. Last summer, Logan Paul faced off against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, in another PPV that sold 1 million buys.
Jake Paul is the most important success story in influencer boxing, having turned professional and scoring highlight-reel knockouts against mixed martial artists like Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. The knockouts by Paul are now legend in the world of Internet memes.
However, Paul's most significant accomplishment came as a promoter in putting together Most Valuable Promotions. Under this promotional banner, he helped put together with his signed fighter Amanda Serrano the biggest fight in women's boxing history on April 30. The fight was a sell-out at Madison Square Garden, is currently the leading candidate for the 2022 fight of the year, and gave Serrano her first million-dollar purse as a fighter.
Following in the footsteps of the Paul brothers, but forging their own path is Ian "iDubbbz" Washburn, along with co-creator Mike Leanardi to put together Creator Clash.
The exhibition charity-boxing event took place on May 14 at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, on the University of South Florida campus. The card featured a plethora of social media personalities such as Harley of Epic Meal Time, Michael Reeves, Justaminx, I Did A Thing, AB of the H3 Podcast, and Alex Ernst.
The atmosphere of the nearly 10,000 fans in attendance was at times deafening and one of the liveliest there has been to any boxing event.
The main event saw Washburn take on the nine million subscribed YouTuber Mike "Doctor Mike" Varshavski in what turned out to be a five two-minute round contest that saw the Doctor pick up a unanimous victory.
While the main event and, more precisely, the crowd in attendance was electric for the top fight on the card, fans in attendance were at the show from the first fight and didn't lose an ounce of enthusiasm as the card proceeded.
From being shown on the big screen at the top of the arena to their ring walks, each social media star's entrance was met with massive sounds of adulation from the crowd, giving the event a unique and memorable quality.
Washburn and Vasrshavski took it upon themselves to put on the best event possible, with most social media stars training with actual boxers such as Nigeria's Wale "Lucky Boy" Omotoso and Shane Mosley Jr.
"A lot of it has been very circus-like," Dr. Mike stated in an interview with Dote Sports regarding other boxing events that feature social media influencers before the event. "I think it needs some quality people coming in and proving that influencers want to take this seriously and are capable of taking it seriously."
Boxing, at its core, is one of the most dangerous sports one can participate in, with multiple deaths occurring every year. It was important for those involved with Creator Clash to show that they were aware and prepared for what comes with stepping inside the squared circle.
The event did feature two professional boxing bouts that bookended the show. Former light heavyweight contender Radivoje "Hot Rod" Kalajdzic took care of business, quickly stopping Ghana's Ernest Amuzu in the first round. Putting actual professionals on the card was essential to giving the show more legitimacy.
"We want everyone to know this is a serious sport," Washburn said to Dote Sports. "You can't play boxing. It's real. I want casual fans to know that, causal fight fans, YouTubers, and other influencers stepping into the ring."
While boxing is undoubtedly a sport that one must take seriously, it doesn't mean that you can't have fun at a boxing show.
The first contest of the evening set the tone for the rest of the show when Nathan "Dad" Barnett demolished Matt Watson of SuperMega in less than a minute, putting the crowd in attendance into a frenzy.
Not only was the event a success at the live gate, but also on PPV, Creator Clash would sell over 100,000 PPV buys. The most significant impact, Creator Clash, may have on the boxing industry is that its proof that there is a younger audience that has an interest in the sport. As long as those participating are passionate and show excitement, the energy can be infectious, as demonstrated by the crowd that attended.
Longtime boxing columnist and HBO boxing commentator Larry Merchant once stated," Fights make fights."
With its mix of social media stars and professionals, Creator Clash may be a recipe for success for years to come as long as the right fights are put together.
