This is what I'm dealing with tonight. First of all this boy...
Was trying to get in my bath. Yes, the first voice is me, and the second one is my wife.
Then...
Tumblr media
He then stole my plantar fasciitis sandles for a pillow...
On the plus side. I did get some words dome while soaking. Being able to write on my phone and have it transfer to laptop is a blessing.

so also and primarily i write lesbian paranormal romance. i am a traditionally published author of three straight ones, but i recently picked up writing about my own beloved community and it is so fun. my goal is writing novels that are free of homophobia, transphobia, racism, etc. i don't see why those things have to be a factor in a paranormal romance. there is no internalized lesbophobia, biphobia, no dysphoria either. i know this sounds ridiculous but it comes off as realistic and like... breath of fresh air, because in literature we are CONSTANTLY being reminded of our oppression. i want my books to be an escape.
my first story featured a butch/femme relationship, a wild adventure across a world of my very own. it is a second-chance romance and its very hot and cute; the femme is a water goddess, the only one left. the butch is kind, handsome, calm, willing to take control and lead as needed. she is soft and very sweet and patient with her femme (who is bipolar). i love their dynamic and i love that my butch is not a stereotype--she's gentle, she carries joy with her. i kind of made her perfect because we need butch representation that shows how truly soft and kind and protective they can be. the book im working on is about a masc nonbinary lesbian of color and a private detective. ellis (the nb person) hires the detective to attend a party on her private island, posing as her fiance. it is so sexy, the chemistry is unbelievable. i'm really enjoying working on it.
honestly representation is great and all, and i totally have it in my mind, but mostly i write a lot of diversity in my stories because, duh, we are just people. we go on adventures and love. everyone is an option to be a character, so the most powerful person in the world is a disabled black lesbian amputee, and the most beloved characters are a latino gay man and a very small, very morally grey and loved nonbinary person. i could go on and on but i won't.
anyway that's what i'm about in my writing. i'd like to post things here and stay engaged in that way.

did u say you're writing a book????? please spill
yeah! I've been working on it for a long time now. Basically the short of it is there's a princess who's about to be crowned queen and feel suffocated by it. During her coronation she's kidnapped by a pirate crew who were hired by a neighboring kingdom to start a war (reasons are spoilers). So the princess goes on this journey w the pirates and starts to realize that she feels more free as a prisoner than she ever did as royalty. And in her experience she discovers all the ways the monarchy sucks and her kingdom isn't as great as she was led to believe
Oh and she falls in love w the pirate captain who's this sexy sarcastic butch lesbian

- From "Queer and Now" by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, from page 3 of her essay collection Tendencies
[IMAGE ID: Screenshots of a text saying:
I think that for many of us in childhood the ability to attach intently to a few cultural objects, objects of high or popular culture or both, objects whose meaning seemed mysterious, excessive, or oblique in relation to the codes most readily available to use, became a prime resource for survival.
We need for there to be sites where the meanings didn’t line up tidily with each other, and we learned to invest those sites with fascination and love. This can’t help coloring the adult relation to cultural texts and objects; in fact, it’s almost hard for me to imagine another way of coming to care enough about literature to give a lifetime to it.
The demands on both text and the reader from so intent an attachment can be multiple, even paradoxical. For me, a kind of formalism, a visceral near-identification with the writing I cared for, at level of sentence structure, metrical pattern, rhyme, was one of trying to appropriate what seemed the numinous and resistant power of the chosen objects.
Education made it easy to accumulate tools for this particular formalist project, because the texts that magnetized me happened to be novels and poems; it’s impressed me deeply the way others of my generation and since seem to have invented for themselves, in the spontaneity of great need, the tools for a formalist apprehension of other less prestigious, more ubiquitous kinds of text: genre movies, advertising, comic strips. Something something queerness in fandom, something something neurodivergency in fandom, something something BIPOC consumers in fandom and disability in fandom and everything from everyone in fandom, something something the way a piece of media just speaks to you when you need it most--like the way an academic text written by a stranger years before your birth feels like it was written with you in mind, or a show about cartoon turtles, or anything else in the world.
Something something and it just hits.

Woven is a story about Lesbian love, connection, and the meaning we weave in our own lives. Though the Kickstarter campaign has come to a close, our GoFundMe is still active! I am still trying to raise about $200 more to cover all my costs (for a total of $1000).
I can’t do this without you guys! So if you have anything to spare, or can help out by spreading the word, I would appreciate it more than you know! Even $1 gets me closer to my goal. If you rather donate through Paypal, CashApp, or Venmo, you can DM me as well 😊
Support indie authors and help get the best version of this story out into the world. 💜

Organising an author reading event
Eight months ago I began this process. Sydney WorldPride was asking for submissions for what seemed like their fringe festival component known as Pride Amplified. To be featured in the print edition of their festival guide, I had to submit the many things they asked for by mid year. So, recovering from Covid, I began the exhausting process. Originally we were going to use a different venue. Only…
