Let's spread some love 😘. What are some of your top five favourite cs fics?

Five?! I guess I can give you five.. (plus a few extras..) I pick the ones I reread the most as my "top five favorites", which is the best way I know how to narrow this down, but I'm not convinced I have a favorite or a top 5. There are far too many good reads in the CS community!

I couldn't find everyone on tumblr, so PLEASE let me know their tumblr tags if you know them! Such amazing writers, the lot!

1. Unbreakable - xHookenonKillianx

I reread the epilogue, just by itself, quite frequently. It's so beautiful. As soon as I forget the meaning of certain details in it, I reread this fic, which usually amounts to once a year.

2. The Legend of Captain Killian Jones - hollyeleigh @hollyethecurious

Ooph I love when someone manages to bring pirate-from-the-18th-century Killian to a modern AU. I just love how all the details add up and how they fall in love and how Henry is as much a part of the story as CS. I reread this every October. (often once again when winter appears over, too)

3. Alone, until I get home - phthalo @peglegjones

I think I need to reread this [again] to give it accurate praise, because my memory SUCKS, but Henry and Ian's dynamic is one aspect I remember well, and appreciate. It's so hard to write kids and keep them relevant in a story and she does this sooo well. And the little bits of magick.. that made my heart swell. I don't wanna spoil anything..

4. How you remind me - cosette141 @cosette141

Any fic that can do it better than canon deserves praise. This is canon divergence from Killian showing up in New York, and the whole thing is my new head canon for the show.

5. Second star to the right - only_halfway_there

This was different than most CS fics, and I suspect it's because this was written before we got a lot of CS in the show? But that just means this author used her creativity, making a different Neverland, a different version of Hook, and the whole thing is so unique and beautiful.

This one is incomplete, hence it's spot here at #6, but I'll never give up on it being completed one day. A ton of people from the past show up in the present all at once, including one Pirate Captain Killian Jones. (Again.. pirate-from-the-18th-century Killian in a modern AU..)

I’m Lindana and I Wanna Have Fun ! [Pepandy]

Candace didn’t mind going out with her mom in public...most of the time. When she was young, she’d hated it. It always felt like people were staring at her. Even if she knew that wasn’t true. She felt like an animal in a zoo and it made her feel like she wanted to melt into the floor. From a young age, she’d learned how to take photos of her mom and fans. They always thought it was so cute. They always wanted to comment on how Candace had her mom’s hair (she didn’t) or ask about if she wanted to follow in her mom’s foot steps (she didn’t, but she smiled sweetly and said yes anyway, as was expected of her.)

Usually, these days, they could get by unscathed. Not too many people recognized Lindana, 90s pop sensation (well, more like one hit wonder, but whatever.) Linda liked to say it was more than it actually was. Only the really big fans did, because she’d only really ever had one successful song. Sure, it had been like...everywhere at the time. Commercials and TV shows and everywhere, but that didn’t mean she had the same staying power that she thought she did.

That had been the 90s, anyways. So like ancient times. People Candace’s age didn’t really know Lindana unless they were super into the vintage pop scene (it was, unfortunately, making a comeback) and people who were older were like...chill. Usually. They stared sometimes and if Linda caught them, she’d always strike up a conversation which could get them stuck for an extra twenty minutes or whatever. It happened super rarely.

It certainly wasn’t going to happen while her and her mom were returning Christmas presents. The worst part about Christmas if you asked Candace because the freaking crowds were even worse after Christmas than they were before Christmas, considering all the deals and what not. But, Linda was insistent on always going to return things immediately. And there was usually something to return. (Linda basically always returned whatever her sister got her...whatever was going on there.)

“I think that woman recognizes me,” Linda leaned into her daughter and whispered in her ear. She was smiling, her eyes twinkling with light in that way they did whenever she got recognized in public.

Candace rolled her eyes as she felt her heart rate spike. “I’m sure it’s fine.”

“No, really, she’s looking at me. Look.” Linda nodded her head in the direction of whatever woman.

Reluctantly, Candace turned her head and squinted.

Yup. The woman was looking right at them, clutching her return item to her chest and looking as if she was about to freaking burst or something. Candace knew that look. The woman in the line next to them was absolutely sneaking glances at her mom. This could not be happening to her. Right here. Right now. 

“No, I don’t think so,” Candace lied through her teeth. She shrugged and tried to ignore the woman’s burning gaze.

“Huh.” Linda said and they moved up in line. The woman in the other line was a bit ahead of them and by the time they finished...she was still hovering. Linda spotted her immediately, like a shark scenting blood in the water.

“I’m going to go say hi.”

“Mom.”

Linda waved at the woman, beckoning her over.

“Oh my god. You’re so embarrassing!” Candace hissed at her. “Can you please act normal for once?”

“I can’t just not say hello to my fans, Candace,” Linda said smoothly.

The woman appeared in front of them.

“Yeah, this is Lindana. 90s pop darling,” Candace said dryly. “Do you want a picture or a signature?”

“Oh, gosh. I don’t think I have any headshots on me!”

Anna screamed when she saw the email light up in her inbox. And then she screamed again when she opened it. 

Town Hall had liked her application! And now they wanted to interview her!

Anna sent back her politest, most carefully-crafted responses. She threw lots of “thank-you”s and “no trouble at all”s in and responded quickly-- but not too quickly. She tore through her entire closet and wound up buying a new outfit anyway. This was a big deal! The Mayor’s office! 

She allowed herself one final, silent scream before she closed her eyes, made herself take three deep breaths, and walked into the imposing building, clutching her resume tightly like it was a life preserver.

“Hi,” Anna said, approaching the front desk with a nervous smile. “I’m here for an interview? With Pepa Madrigal? My name is Anna Sommers.”

Belle was on her lunch break. She was also on a mission.

There were many things that she had to do at the moment. Paperwork for the RAS. Helping file claims for everyone who was reaching out about insurance (only if there was an issue, obviously, but there were plenty of issues.) Taking care of the children, who were a bit skittish after the storm. Not to mention the ever present looming threat of the Order.

That was not the mission she was on now, which was quite personal.

She had pulled up Hades’ schedule. They shared a Google calendar, of course, but Belle usually only looked at if she needed to stop by, or schedule something with her husband. However, today, she was making sure he had a meeting. Which, he did.

Belle wasn’t here for Hades. She was here for his secretary.

“Ms. Madrigal, hello,” Belle said, eyes sparking as she smiled at Pepa Madrigal. “I was wondering if my husband was busy?”

Félix would probably say that he was an expert on marriage, if anyone were to ask him. He had been married a very long time now, and at least to his knowledge, his marriage had always been a very happy one. There were certain things to keep in mind you see, in a marriage. And one that Félix always remembered, one that he always kept on the forefront of his mind, was that you never stopped dating your spouse, not even after you married them. Not even after ten years, twenty, fifty!

Hence the plot he had hatched. That he had been hatching, since his birthday. The idea had come to him very suddenly, and he had been rather busy (and it was so hard to find a cumbia band in England, it turned out - especially one that was willing to drive out to Swynlake but ay! Shush! He was getting ahead of himself), so planning had taken a little while, but that was fine. Prom was months away, and by the time June came around, Félix was ready.

His plan began thusly: he went up to Georgina, the woman who happened to be working the front desk at Town Hall that morning, and slipped a floral-patterned envelope across the table. He knew that, right about now, Pepa would be getting ready for her lunch break. The perfect time to strike. Georgina took the envelope, and Félix watched her as she began the way to the Mayor's office. Good, good -- so far, his plan was going perfectly.

Georgina trotted along whilst Félix disappeared, out the door and across the road, scurrying into the park. He knew Pepa. She would not be able to resist such a mystery!

At Pepa's desk, Georgina dropped off the note, her eyebrows arching. "A man left this for you at reception." She said simply, setting it down before she walked away again.

Inside, in Félix's familiar handwriting, was a note: Come outside and find me, mi amor

The Madrigals were going a # time (although when were they not). So naturally, Camilo’s solution was to send his family memes. Usually made sure to send all of the immediate family members some meme every few days. All while avoiding the ones involving romance which was tough because there were an incredibly high amount of hilarious dating memes. At this point, every morning they took a solid five minutes to contemplate whether it was time to whip out the skibidi toilet memes, but they were simply still too powerful to be unleashed.

Camilo had sent one to Mama and received a message with a bunch of question marks and a request for him to find her. Stifling a laugh, they pushed from sitting and followed Casita’s rustling of tiles to find her downstairs.
