Well im 5'5 and I used to think I was too tall for how old I was when I was younger but now I think im pretty content

Day 3: A picture of your thinspiration, what features do you like about this person?

I like how beautiful and dainty she looks. You get the sense she could get anyone she wanted and in the morning when they wake up they see a beautiful girl in their bed. That could be me one day. Wearing a beautiful dress with a perfect jaw, neck, and collarbone. Perfect arms and legs, never fearing clothes that cling to me ever again.

Day 4: Your greatest fears about weight loss

I'm scared I won't like how I look once I get thin. Maybe my body won't look good small or maybe I'll never be happy. I'm scared of hair loss, never getting kids. I'm scared of literal death from binging after fasts I'm scared this will all be for nothing. But nonetheles, I continue.

Day 5: Why do you really want to lose weight? Are you doing it for you?

Well I think it started because I just didn't like how I look. Now I've formed the belief that no one really likes me because I'm just so fat. I can get girlfriends but never a boyfriend. My friends like and include everyone in the group- unless they're fat. Maybe people will finally get crushes on me once I'm thin, and I think right now, thats the biggest goal.

Day 6: Do you binge? If so, explain why you think you do.

I binge out of boredom. I open the fridge and grab the most unhealthy shit then it tastes so good that I just can't stop or pace myself. I've been good about it recently but this might just be a honeymoon phase I dunno..

Day 7: Do your parents know you are trying to lose weight? Do they care?

Well my dad helps me cause he thinks I'm being healthy and up until tonight my mom was unbothered.. that is until I told her I lot my period. Now she's saying I don't eat enough- which is deffo true

Most of their childhood was Guy following Citron around to make sure he didn't get hurt

They were constantly sneaking out and getting in trouble, ya know how Prince Ezran from the dragon prince stole pastries sometimes, yeah that was Citron.

After it would rain, Citron would drag Guy outside to help him pick up all the worms and put them in the grass so they didn't die

They literally went everywhere together like they were a packaged deal

They definitely had a whole game when they went out on their adventures. Like they would have different names, side quests to get to their main goal, it was just very thought out

If Citron ever got in trouble, Guy would go out and buy something to bring to Citron, on his way he would think up a story to tell Citron about how he got it (often making ot dramatic so Citeon would laugh)

Being in crowds for to long makes Guy anxious, so most of their adventures take place in more open areas

Citron uses sign language when he talks to Guy because Guy is hard of hearing

Citron definitely made a wholde adventure song for them that he still hums to this day (so does Guy)

Sleepovers 24/7, they pretty much shared a room lmao

If Citron ever broke something, Guy would say he did it so Citron wouldn't get in trouble for it

Pretty much what the title suggests, I’m going to be showing you the step by step of how I make a story.

Next, I’m going to look through writing prompts. I never take a single one, that either feels that it gives me too many or too little restraints, so instead I use multiple and find a way to interlock them.

“A college student desperate for tuition money secretly works at two different full-time summer internships at once, two city blocks away from one another.”

This is absolutely hilarious and I see a lot I could do with this.

“Two boys on rival basketball teams develop romantic feelings for one another.”

There are two reasons I chose this one. The first is that it’s gay. I’m gay, and I love writing gay stuff. The second is that according to my best friend I’m very good at writing romances, even though I kinda hate the genre, so this could work.

“A teenager is pressured to shoot a buck on his first deer hunt with an older relative, but he can’t bring himself to do it.”

I think that this could be really emotional and a sign of character development, which I love.

“A teen attempts to make his whole fractious extended family get along and have a nice Christmas for once in their lives.”

This is absolutely amazing. I watched a movie that gave me these sort of vibes, it’s on Amazon Prime, it’s called Lez Bomb (highly recommend it, by the way).

“A teen copes with both a hopeless crush on his best friend’s older sister and a younger girl’s crush on him.”

I’m starting to see a way I can tie these all together, but I’ll ignore that for now.

“A girl discovers a secret passageway in one of the office buildings she cleans at night, but nobody else seems to be able to access it.”

It just wouldn’t be a me story without a little mystery, of course.

“Two boys discover treasure in a local cave.”

So, now that we’re at the end here, I think it’s a good idea to tell you my ending story. Or, well, story idea. This is nowhere near done yet. I haven’t even started. I don’t have names yet, so I’ll simply give everyone a letter of the alphabet until I’m done.

A and B have been best friends their whole lives. B has two siblings, an older brother (C) and a younger sister (D). D has a crush on A. A is an only child. A’s family is not poor, but can’t exactly afford to send him to the school he wants to go to, so he works two full time internships, two city blocks away from each other. He’s also full time in college and is on the basketball team. He can’t tell anyone he’s doing all this, because they will be mad at him for overworking himself. A and B go to the same college, but C goes to the rival one. C is on the basketball team. Along the course of the story A and C start to develop feelings for each other. At one of A’s internships he drops something and goes to pick it up under a desk. He sees a trapped door on the floor under his boss(E)’s desk. He goes to open it but E calls his name and he picks up the paper and leaves. The next day he tries to open it, but is unable. Once A and C start dating, they sneak away to go have a picnic in a cave so no one sees them and come across a trapped door similar to the one A found under E’s desk. This one can open. The not shooting a buck, and Christmas things are subplots.

Now, I know my basics, but I don’t actually know my plot. For example, where do the trapped doors lead? Do they lead to each other? If so, why? Is there something magical about the cave? Does E know about the trapped doors? So, as you can see, a lot of questions here are unanswered. To fix this I’m going to look at more writing prompts, but this time horror, or fantasy. Let’s start with horror.

I make no promises on using this yet, but I think it could be interesting.

I like this one quite a bit, and I think that it could tie well with the one above it. Maybe the town had a horrible incident that happened long ago. Everyone knows about it, but no one talks about it?

“Weekend adventurers explore a cave and can’t find their way out again. Then they encounter something terrible…”

I was actually thinking about this one all on my own, maybe the original entrance A and C took to the cave closed up, so they had to go through the trapped door and see where it leads?

“Authorities go through the cluttered apartment of a deceased man who lived alone with no known friends or relatives for decades and find something disturbing.”

Maybe the trapped doors lead to the same place and someone lived there? No, I don’t like that.

Wait, actually. Maybe E was at the horrible event that happened? He could have caused it, which would explain why he has a trapped door under his desk. He takes the victim’s remaining lifespan and adds it onto his? Like if they would only have died from natural causes when they were 76 and he killed them when they were 32, he’d get 44 more years of life? But to do that he had to eat them? All the victims are in a cave that both the trapped doors lead to. The one in the cave leads there because that is where the horrible thing happened and he needed an easy way to dispose of the bodies, and the one in his office leads there because that is where he lives? I don’t know, this is just brainstorming. Once I’m done with this I’m going to post a more accurate synopsis of what the story could be. For now I’m going to look at fantasy prompts, because those will (hopefully) be less messed up than this.

I don’t know if I’m going to involve magic in this story yet, but if I am I’m 100% making this a thing.

Okay, I think I’ve got something. This story has vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc, etc. Nobody knows about them. E is a werewolf. He made a trapped door in the cave to another one so he could hide from the full moon and not kill anyone. One night he was running late and was transforming as he went to his hiding spot. He tried to make it to the trapped door, but one of his friends was throwing a party there. He tried to push through the people, but there were a lot and it took a long time. When he finally got there he realized he dropped his key in the crowd. He tried to find it but couldn’t. His friend distracted him and soon E was a full blown werewolf. His killing extinct kicked in and he killed everyone at the party. He ripped the trapped door off its hinges and started piling the bodies into his hiding spot. When he became human again he put the door back on, but didn’t even look for the key. He didn’t want to remember what he did. There are three trapped doors, one in the cave, one under his desk, and one in his house.

I’m going to write a better description of the story I’m going with soon, but until then enjoy my brainstorming process!

Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty

Performed at the Esplanade Theatre; Watched twice on ????

I actually watched Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty TWICE from the same row of seats (super coincidental). I didn’t like it a lot, because I watched his Swan Lake and absolutely LOVED it so my expectations were way up there.

For over a century, Marius Petipa’s Sleeping Beauty has been one of the basics of classical ballet repertoire in companies all over the world, as well as a renowned one for being one of the three ballets composed by Tchaikovsky. Award-winning choreographer Matthew Bourne of New Adventures puts his own unique spin on the century-old ballet, bringing his Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty to Singapore after a highly successful tour of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake in 2014.

The music by Tchaikovsky was still retained throughout Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauy (MBSB), connecting this more contemporary take on Sleeping Beauty to the 1890 version. The story, although vastly different in adding vampires and secret childhood sweethearts to the mix, still keeps the backbone of a hundred-year sleep and true love’s kiss. After Aurora pricks her finger on a rose planted by the late Carrabosse’s son, Cadorac, the whole castle goes on shut down. Count Lilac, the vampiric version of the Lilac Fairy, turns Aurora’s secret sweetheart, the garden boy Leo, into a vampire so that he can wake Aurora up with true love’s kiss after the hundred-year wait. Romantic.

It is 2011 and Vampire Leo enters the castle after a hundred-year intermission (cue laughter from audience), and goes through the Land of the Sleepwalkers. He manages to enter Aurora’s bedroom, in which Cadorac lies in wait. Cadorac brings Leo to a sleeping Aurora, whom Leo kisses. But alas, Cadorac’s minions grab hold of Leo and drag him away, while Cadorac pretends that he was the one who woke her up. With the hundred-year wait, it seems sensible that Cadorac fell in love with an unconscious Aurora as well.

Leo and Count Lilac try to save her by gatecrashing Cadorac’s vampire cult wedding to Aurora. Count Lilac manages to stab Cadorac while Leo grabs Aurora and escapes. Eventually, the two are reunited. Leo and Aurora get into a bed while fairies/vampires hover at the sides, and emerge with Aurora as a vampire and a flying vampire child. And they lived happily ever after.

The dancing was, obviously, remarkable, with an exceptional performance from Count Lilac. The execution of the balances, pirouettes, attitude turns had breathtaking suspension, visible even through the bulky 19th century costumes, and was performed beautifully.

Aurora, a free-spirited soul, happier barefoot than in shoes, is an Isadora Duncan-like figure. Her youth and spunk is a breath of fresh air compared to the dark and stuffy Act I.

Aurora and Leo’s relationship is like that of a first love. They’re happy, giggly, and totally in love (Seriously, they’re RS goals). It’s adorable. The MBSB’s Rose Adagio is an obvious example of their happy relationship: Leo pretends to be angry that Aurora danced with other men at her coming-of-age fancy tea party, and she teasingly cajoles him out of his tantrum. They dance around each other fluidly and it’s a physicalization of their relationship – free and easy.

The sets and costumes for MBSB was beautiful – 19th century dresses and tunics for the vampires in Act 1, and white summer frocks and vests for the men and women in Act 2. The stage is designed with attention given to minute detail – rose hedges, balconies, big windows and a dream-like forest. Nothing was left out and the effect of the set gave the feeling that one was actually in the scene itself.

The timeline of the story was very interestingly placed. Act 1 opens in 1890, which coincidentally is the year in which Petipa’s Sleeping Beauty was first performed, and the vampires come to bestow their wishes onto baby Aurora. The choreography is largely classically based, an acknowledgement of the time period as well as Petipa’s Sleepng Beauty. Act 2 then goes to 1911, and the guests at Aurora’s coming-of-age dance Waltz-inspired social dances. Fast-forward a hundred years, and the vampires at the cult wedding carry out quirky-looking choreography, perhaps a glimpse into the future. The way Bourne played around with the timeline allowed him to explore different historical influences in his choreography, as well as gave Lez Brotherston, in-charge of set and costume design, a lot of room to work with different designs for different time periods.

However, despite having more than enough room to play around with the choreography, MBSB’s choreography was largely unremarkable and unmemorable, especially compared to his Swan Lake, which was performed in Singapore in 2014.

Right from Act 1, Aurora was shown as a girl with lots of spunk and tenacity. I expected the story to be more of a “the girl can save herself” sort of story. However, once she becomes unconscious, the story then follows Leo and his mission to save Aurora from the curse. Even after the curse was lifted, we didn’t get to see any more of Aurora’s personality. The story started out with a “strong, independent woman” vibe, but it went downhill fast, until Aurora just becomes someone in the background compared to Leo.

The ending is also quick and abrupt: Leo saves Aurora, they have sex behind a curtain and emerge with a baby. The end. And they lived happily ever after. Personally, I felt that it was just “lazy writing”, a way to end the story quickly and with a happy ending.

Overall, MBSB is a lovely time travel through a hundred or so years, with multiple references to different time periods through the choreography, the costumes and the sets. However, the storyline doesn’t elicit any strong emotions, nor is the choreography particularly exceptional.

"Lez Bomb" Review

Lez Bomb is a classic movie game of kick the can. Cinematically it’s an extremely difficult game to play because you’re stringing out a big reveal for as long as possible. In this case, the strong cast of characters work with the plot points and crush the dialogue so you’re willing to engage. So while its central bomb feels more like a dud mortar, watching the game of kick the can play out is an absolute joyride!

Writer/director/star Jenna Laurenzo has penned a story in which Lauren (Laurenzo) plans to come out to her family during Thanksgiving by bringing her girlfriend, Hailey (Caitlin Mehner), home for the holiday. Her efforts are thwarted by her roommate Austin’s (Brandon Micheal Hall) arrival. This twist is hilariously smart in itself as Austin happens to be black, and the rest of her family automatically believes that this is the big news. 

As Lauren tries to steer her family in the right direction, more family members continue to show up and block her goal for various reasons. Lauren’s on screen family is stacked with powerhouse talent who bring life to their characters as only they can. Kevin Pollak is George, Lauren’s protective father. He makes George a quirky, lovable, and hilarious dad who tows the line between realizing his daughter is a grown woman but still his little girl, which makes for hysterical exchanges between him and Austin. Lauren’s mom Rose (Deirdre O’Connell) is dealing with the recent death of her father, inheriting the family motel, and her misguided attempts to connect with her daughter in her own way. O’Connell’s ability to jump from thought to thought in her dialogue with minimal exterior expression makes Rose that member in your family...you know the one! Bruce Dern and Cloris Leachman make it look easy as Grandpa and Josephine respectively. 

Credit has to be given to Laurenzo for her writing. It’s rare to find dialogue that doesn’t feel scripted, but captures the essence of the natural rhythm of family gatherings. The casting bolsters her words to create an on screen family that has a genuine sense of history in each line delivered. Laurenzo’s camera also catches both the mundane moments and verbal disses with a sprinkle of love and hate that every family can relate to.

The issue with Lez Bomb is that the coming out portion of the film, the bomb, isn’t really a bombshell news item to Lauren’s family, nor is it set up that way. You get the vibe that her news won’t be that big of a deal along the way because her family seems pretty liberal. There’s never a sense of  real stakes in what her confession may cost her. Even if relayed through Lauren’s words. Instead, Lauren constantly asks Hailey and Austin, who already know, to give her more time to tell her folks when it’s a good moment. Not every coming out film has to be super dramatic, but the comedy is so good here that a nice dramatic turn or a feeling of risk would have made this movie more memorable. In an honest moment with Hailey, we get a brief glimpse of Lauren’s internal struggle and self worth, but it’s gone before it’s truly explored.

Also, the chemistry between Mehner and Laurenzo lacks authenticity. There’s a real sense of love and history between Lauren and Austin in a playful moment in the beginning of the film. One that’s powerful enough to set up a love triangle in subtext. This missing link sets Hailey up to look like a one note, complaining girlfriend, rather than the true love of Lauren’s life that she gives lip service to being.

Lez Bomb is certainly a feel-good, family holiday movie that’s filled with laugh out loud jokes. It’s quick witted dialogue separates it from similar indie fair. Director Jenna Laurenzo said she “wrote Lez Bomb because it was the movie I wanted to see but couldn’t find.” Perhaps it will inspire others to do the same. It’s certainly the perfect arthouse film to see with a group in theaters.
