seriously have been thinking about this all night long. call me autistic but the fact that 90% of workplaces the point is not to get your work done and then be done doing it but to instead perform an elaborate social dance in which you find something to do even when you're done doing everything you need to do in order to show your fellow workers that you, too, are Working . because you are at Work . disgusting why cant we all agree that if there is no work immediately to be done. we just dont do anything

#i personally like to not be doing things constantly at all times. it stresses me out #i know there are ppl who thrive on cosntant activity #but me i like to chill out. #and the problem then becomes that i only ACTIVELY remember to do work and Find More Work To Do when im stressed #at the thought that others might want to see me working #if im ever relaxed i just dont look for stuff to do #catch 22 of modern work culture which permeates even ostensibly noncapitalist structures like public libraries #for instance: will it really kill anybody if the books get shelved by me now after a very busy day? #or shelved tomorrow morning by. well probably me since i'll be the one at the desk #not in the slightest #but it was work that wasnt being immediately done by me. therefore it was incorrect behavior #that i failed to identify because my instinct is to relax when not immediately presented with a Situation #this got me labeled as 'having no initiative' by my dad from a very early age #and even as an adult i still feel like im a child with no initiative

im obsessed with the cover of this magazine i found from 1999 which i think looks like the jedi order had some kind of a space tiger beat equivalent full of hot gossip about notable jedi lol

there are a couple good quotes in the article, like here's ewan about the jedi on screen:

"They frown a bit, and they're good fighters. They stand for everything that's good. Nobody frowns better than Liam and l in this movie because we have the Jedi frown. We're just kind of cool geezers."

i genuinely believe that the decision to have the jedi frown was enough to tank their reputation with a large number of fans who found that off-putting and cold. if the jedi had smiled more, i guarantee that the number of fans who say that they were responsible for their own fall would be much smaller.

like think about it!! literally just bc mace windu frowned at anakin in the phantom menace, people malign his character so much. they read it as anger or disdain, but he was just frowning bc the jedi frown. they are serious people!! yoda said it in episode 5: "a jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind."

there is a lot that can be unpacked about frowning, the american norms of smiling and facial performance of emotions, and the discomfort people feel when those norms are violated. as someone with flat affect, i FEEL THAT. i love that the jedi are serious and focused. they're space wizard monks, yk?

the other good quote is about how ewan intentionally tried to match alec guinness's voice:

"in the scene in his house where he shows Luke his laser sword for the first time, he's got such a specific voice — the Obi-Wan voice we know... kind of a fatherly voice."

ewan attempting to sound fatherly did things to those of us who are.. sensitive to such things 😅 it's like catnip for my brain personally lol

so I've been drinking and I've decided to rewatch Midst 3x04 "Foundation" for reasons and anyway. what's the deal with protein in the highest light. Like, not to go bro mode here but Phineas and Jonas aren't small guys and they canonically lift and need to be in shape. And I know you can have a plant-based high-protein diet if you work at it and I would support that, but like, is there fucking beans and rice. is there tofu in the un? mushrooms? all these motherfuckers eat are flowers. there is fern jerky. Does Jonas have mirrorhawk dip to grimly eat out of the can with a spoon at the end of the day so as to achieve his macros? their steaks are made out of SUNFLOWERS that's NOT going to work

re-reading Mal’s Spellbook

Evie should be meaner, actually??? But also, a) Jay has totally fine handwriting in the spellbook, the font they chose for his writing is way more legible than the one they chose for Mal, and b) is this what the kids are mean about these days???

#me writing a silly little fic where Jay has genuinely awful handwriting due to like. undiagnosed dyslexia. #which is important for his school character arc because he genuinely believes that he’s bad at school #and also relies almost completely on his verbal memory of whatever they went over in class #he can debate just fine!! His logic is sound #he’s just #really slow at reading and his handwriting is genuinely atrocious #he dictates essays to the school laptop they ‘stole’ from the library #the others read assignments out loud for their shared classes #and like. He’s not stupid. He can cover for it. But the thing about being in school full time and covering for a learning disability #is that it’s exhausting and unsustainable #and going to lead to a breakdown eventually #even if that’s just failing a test #and being found out #anyway if anybody is still reading my older fic this is why Jay’s in the offset testing blocks in my ongoing cinderellaverse #he gets extra time on tests because of the dyslexia #he probably also uses a red filter over the page when he reads because that’s the breakthrough that helped my irl dyslexic sister #anyway someday I’ll actually write all of my school thoughts into a real fic
