Actual email I sent out today
To: Ms. Fifth Grade
Subject: context for the screaming in the hall
I was looking for a teacher and Brixton told me where I would most likely find her. I thanked him and left. I have no idea why this prompted Johnstyn to run into class yelling “BRIXTON GOT REJECTED!”
Sorry for the absolute chaos that followed.
Regards,
Ms. Cat

Highlight of the day: listening to teens inadvertently create a hodgepodge Arthurian Legend/Biblically inspired game of DnD with Chess pieces at work.
They were absolutely supposed to probably be revising or doing some homework, but their story telling was wonderful. As was their infectious enjoyment.

I'll make casual small talk with a patron and then go back to my desk like "Oh my god that was crazy I can't believe I did that. That was insane. Holy shit I did it" every time

Me: hm, I want something to put on the TV as background noise... Huh. Looks like YouTube is recommending something called The Last Unicorn. That's perfect, it's probably some old shitty animation that has aged poorly! I can watch it ironically!
Me, 2 hours later as the credits roll: *crying, cheering, buying the book, composing the songs*
Me, 2 weeks later: So I have compiled all of the quotes from the book that I think could make good tattoos, and also, HOW HAVE I NEVER LEARNED ABOUT HOW THE LAST UNICORN FUCKING SLAPS??? This gay-ass little fairytale fed my soul! Watered my crops! Transed my gender! Can't believe I heard of this story from youtube recommendations, of all places!!

Winter. It's beautiful. It's foggy windows and hot sips of coffee. It's dark academia books and soothing music. It's sad poetry and cute scarfs. It's an angry sky with a romantic moon. It's the villain who is usually misunderstood. It's chaotic. It's calm. It's winter. It's beautiful.

As much as I would LOVE for my first grade group to sit down and be quiet, I find it concerning when that's all one of the boys wants to do today. Especially when we're playing with magnets.
And the counselor's out today, too.
He said he was fine, but I still let him lie down and read on the window seat since he didn't even feel like coloring. Hope it's just the Valentine's Blues and not something more serious.

#MiniatureMonday
Fairy Tales From Grimm / by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm with introduction from L. Frank Baum
The Fairy Tales from Grimm is a collection of children's stories written by the Grimm brothers, many of which have been popularized by Disney. This miniature book includes several stories such as the tale of Snow White.
Although the stories were originally published in the 1800s, this copy was produced in 1905. What makes it fantastic is the illustrations in both color and black and white. These drawings beautifully help bring the stories to life.

a very old lady called the reference desk and asked how many uninhabited islands there were in the world. being a diligent librarian i said MANY! and then asked if she was interested in any region of the world in particular because wow what a question, better narrow it down. she said no, that her ex husband used to say he wanted to go live alone on an island and she wanted to make sure he could find one. i told her he had hundreds of thousands of options and she said "good." and wished me a pleasant day and is honestly the most iconic woman of our time.
