gougar print that i fanatically carved last night . and then printed lazily
[ image id: a black ink blockprint on brown paper, depicting a cougar with arms outstretched and ears back, lunging forward. a rectangular border wraps around it, with curved spikes resembling fangs or claws reaching towards the middle. the title at the top reads “GOUGAR” in bold letters. end id ]
bonus thoughts and photos under cut

i’ve made a few prints like this before, and one thing i’ve noticed is that i tend to keep some messy details so that you can tell that it was printed from something that was carved by hand. i think that leaving it a little imperfect gives it a bit of charm, as well as adding texture to an otherwise blank space.

its difficult to map out where the fur texture is going to be, and you can’t really tell where you’ve carved until you ink it. this is the first print i made (after i hoped and prayed i didn’t screw up the lines). i honestly think this version is really cool, but the lines were just too distracting to me. also it makes it look like a vertical tiger
This piece was inspired by the song oh baby by lcd soundsystem
I’ve got a bunch of prints laying around and I’m thinking about making an Etsy store to put them up for sale, but idk if people would be interested! So if you’d be into that let me know :)
I got tired with printing on card and paper so I wanted to push myself further to see what else I could print on,with the Lino cuts I’ve made which where the patterns of the fish I asked myself what it would like like on the skin
The Lino I used were very bendable so to print onto the skin was extremely easy to get a clean and precise print without smudging or any mistakes
By printing on my arm I questioned how far I can go to resemble the movement of a fish and I love how this print looks like the fins and tail of the koi and the vibrant colour used you can clearly see where I’ve cut
and I mixed and matched the Lino cuts to see how they would look like together and look really interesting, exploring with my prints and knowing that I was able to create scales on my skin was pretty cool to do
Playing around with this simple Lino cut resembling the patterns and liking how the more I press the more faint it got to my skin.
Today I made even more progress carving my Manwë lino art🎉🎉
Observe~
I also did a pencil test to see how the lines are coming along (the hand and bottom half are yet to be carved hence why they're black) and I'm excited that the lines that I purposefully carved in such way are showing up💖
Plus my teacher promised to show me different techniques how I can get the lines to print more clearly so all my hard work isn't for naught🎉
