Wrestling AU Anon here!

1. I'm loving reading about everyone's AU characters!!! They are all so fun!!!! I want to compliment them all!!!!

2. While my AEW oc is way more fleshed out, if I tell you about it, it might...reveal my identity *puts on dramatic sunglasses* so I'll tell you about my WWE one instead. Her name would also give me away, so I'll refer to her by her moniker: The Huntress. She has a Little Red Riding Hood motif - as a face, she's super cutesy and skips down to the ring in her cloak, tossing goodies out of basket to the fans. As a heel, there's usually something to help her win a match in the basket (she definitely sprinkles some tacks in the ring at least once). Regardless of her alignment, she's the Huntress because of the way she analyzes targets her opponents. She loves facing new opponents and doesn't care if she loses at first because she learns and adapts from each match. Each time she takes down a target for the first time, she takes some kind of trophy from them to mark her progress.

She came up from NXT after the horsewomen had already been on the main roster for a while, and she idolized Bayley, loving her happy-go-lucky style. Of course, Bayley ended up turning heel. When the Huntress comes up to Smackdown, Bayley despises her, because she reminds Bayley of what she used to be like: an optimistic youngster that brimmed with sunshine. But the Huntress recognizes this and uses it in promos on Bayley, claiming she throws the more experienced superstar off because she reminds her of when she was happier, when she was less jaded, and when she didn't play dirty. Eventually, the Huntress goads Bayley into granting her a title match; here's a snippet of one of her promos leading up to it: "Do you ever hear it when you're falling asleep? Your old theme song? There ain't no stoppin' us now, we celebrate on the floor. Top down, we're ready to go ~ To all the people across every nation, turn it up and give us some more. I've been listening to it a lot lately. Did you know I make a playlist for each target? It helps me focus on exactly what I'm training for, who I'm training to take down. Yours is all cutesy bubblegum inspiration pop. It's not quite dramatic enough to capture our story - the cycle of youthful optimists and jaded elders, the clash of passionate idealism and tired realism - but it's the type of music that would piss you off. Because it reminds you of just how similar we are, or of just how similar we used to be. This isn't a new story, Bayley, but just like when you were the plucky youngster, it's going to have the same ending. She ends up winning the title from Bayley, eventually losing it to Sasha, where the timeline picks up with Sasha v. Bianca at Wrestlemania. When Bayley returns in the Rumble (because this is my fantasy and I can make it happen even if it won't irl *cries*), Bayley screws with the Huntress' head in a fun way and the story continues. The Huntress also has a slowburn love story with Cesaro but that's neither here nor there.

This is one of the best stories I have ver read. This is freaking unbelievable.

You have thought about every single detail, from the physical appearance to making playlist for every opponent to the iconic rivalry that wrestlers always have with someone specific, to the love story with Cesaro. I just love your passion for this character and how well built she is! This reminds me that I’m not alone with everything that I have built with my Lexie Engel character!

Last thing you bought online? Did you like it? OMG OMG so I got Angela an Army Bomb!!!!!! for her birthday!!!! It was HELLLL looking for sealed ones that were already onhand, but fortunately I was able to find one from this really nice seller a few days ago and the shipping was quick as well. I’m just a little worried because the outbox has a little dent on it :( but it was the best onhand offer I could find so I got it before anybody could call dibs. I still hope she likes it! I got her batteries too so that she can try lighting it up as soon as she has it. :D

Could you date someone who didn’t drive (and didn’t show an interest in ever getting their license, either)?  I feel like this is such a petty thing to make a big deal about...if they knew how to commute or any other way to get to their destination, I don’t think this should be a problem. It would only be an issue to me if they refused to get a license in a very I-generally-lack-ambition kind of way.

How would you react if your artwork became famous?  I don’t have any to show off to begin with. I love appreciating art, but creating it was never a forte of mine.

Would you get your nipples pierced?  No, I don’t plan on getting any piercings. How many people know your birthday?  Outside of my family, my best friends. I think everyone else relies on Facebook to be reminded, which is fine with me.

Has anyone ever tried to ruin a relationship you were in?  No. Quite the contrary, really...I was sometimes informed about red flags taking place, which of course my stubborn ass ignored.

Have you ever watched a whole hour long infomercial?  Probably, as a kid. The channel from which I used to watch WWE aired these really long infomercials so I would watch those while waiting for like Raw or whatever show was going on after.

What is your current MySpace song?  I never hung out on Myspace. I had an account, but I was too young for it so it wasn’t long before I got bored.

What is your favorite kind of meat to put on your sandwich?  Pulled pork or fried chicken.

What was the most disturbing thing you have ever heard your mother say? She threatened suicide in front of me and my dad in a very calm way when I was around 11, I think? Maybe 12, idk. By the time I moved on the timing was already off, so the clothes stayed with me untillll...just a few days ago, actually – when I finally cleaned up my room and got rid of a bunch of knickknacks that accumulated here over the years, including all her shirts and sweaters and stuff.

Could you make a statement about anything political?  The 2022 presidential election landscape looks like complete shit and I’m nearly at that point where I want to stop giving a fuck about this country’s future.

Do you get the feeling something good will happen in your life soon?  I think I’m already living in it, haha.

Do you enjoy romantic movies, even when they’re cliche?  Sure, but cliché is also hit and miss for me. I love Titanic and Love Actually, but I cannot stand movies like Me Before You and The Notebook. I guess it depends on certain executions, like the acting, screenplay, casting, etc.

Are there any themes from TV shows that you like to sing along to? The Big Bang Theory and Friends; and then I also liked humming to the themes of Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and BoJack Horseman. The Phineas & Ferb theme was also a lot of fun to sing along to.

Do you eat dessert after dinner? No, I never do that. I’m usually already full after dinner, and we don’t always have sweets at home anyway.

When you go out drinking, what do you prefer to drink?  Cocktails. I very rarely go for hard drinks/shots, especially if I brought my own car.

Have you ever learned something shocking about someone through Facebook?  I mean I’ve had to learn about more than one family death through my Facebook feed, which sucks but is nothing I have control over. Otherwise the most shocking thing I’ve seen is probably classmates from high school having their own kids, but at this point I’m used to it already.

What’s the scariest living animal that you’ve petted?  I’m not really afraid of carrying/petting animals especially if there’s a guide or expert nearby, but the most daring one was probably the crocodile I volunteered to hold in Palawan.

Do you dread certain days of the week? If yes, what day/s and why?  I hate Mondays for obvious reasons lol. I don’t know anyone who is actively cheery about reporting back to work.

Well, all of them are some level of NKC, but some are not only non-kayfabe, they are straight up AU.  BTW2: In every single one of these stories involving me I am some manner of queer. I’m pretty sure in all but maybe one or two. I’m either wlw, ace, or both. NOT ONE of the first person dreams contains romance between me and another character. The best you get is a single platonic fake-relationship story. (That one did have a smut scene in it but it isn’t romantic.)

1. What got you into wrestling?

My bf was a fan when he was a child and we were together for 5 years already when we stumbled upon some WWE on TV. It was like 2008 or early 2009 I’m not sure. I told him I found Hulk Hogan funny (truly I had no idea who he was except for what he looked like, most people barely know him in France), it was the whole extent of my knowledge about wrestling at that time. He sprang to life and dig an old Hogan figure from his old toy box. Fast forward a year or so later, we’re about to break up and I move out but I keep the figure with me. It’s the first thing I take a picture of in my new studio, thinking about wrestling makes me feel stronger, like I can actually change things and get back to uni after 2 years of working at mcdonalds. I love Rey Mysterio and Edge, I love strength despite odds, I love defiant, unapologetic, everything I wish I could be. And indeed, against all odds my bf and I are still together, we move to a slightly bigger studio and the figure is again the first thing we move with us. 4 years of university ate all the time I had for wrestling but I became the smartass bookseller I always wanted to be with a master degree in children literature and comic books. I stand proud. Then as I settle in work after another 5 years of small contracts to so, so many bookshops, with that Hogan figure moving out with me, with us, from a studio to an apartment and, let’s hope so, a house next year, we go back to watching WWE but something feels odd. It’s not much different from 10 years ago and we see the flaw, the many flaws we never cared about before. But then!! Then we fall for Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, Finn Balor and suddenly puroresu sounds like something very, very intriguing. So as everyone keeps talking about how good Kenny is in NJPW, we listen and hop on that train when a small TV channel specialized in Japanese culture brings Wrestle Kingdom 13 to France. And now it’s been a year of obsessing over the strange guy with the scruffy hair, the one with the sick mask, the flippy little shit, the British little shit (not the same) and well, Kenny Omega. And ok life still isn’t perfect but I’ve never felt so close to happiness.

So I guess the short answer is: my boyfriend got me into wrestling, but the truth is wrestling got me into wrestling and inspired me to strive and aim for the best person I could be. Still does.

10. Least favorite gimmick?

It’s kinda hard thinking negatively about wrestling: if i don’t like something I don’t care about it, probably not even enough to hate it. It’s not something I wanna spend too much time on, I’d rather think about how beautiful Naito is. Still I guess Brock Lesnar’s the worst. There’s nothing to him and to his gimmick, no depth, no charisma, not even a story to tell. Looking at him bores me to no end.

39. Who would be your best friend if you were a wrestler?

I wish I could be friend with Hiromu. He’s like... I know I’d be the best version of myself alongside him. Plus we have a lot in common I guess? With the doodling and artistry, the excess and obsessing, even personality-wise. IRL we’re kinda alike? Pretty sure we’d introduce each other to some good music and that sounds like a great deal.

Ok, so I’m like, two days late with this...

This past Thursday, I had a doctors appointment. I had to fill out some paperwork, and when I wrote the date (5/23/19) I did a FULL STOP and just went “...OH”

Now, to explain. There are certain dates that affect me. January 15th is obviously one based on my love of Shane.

May 23rd is another for a WHOLE OTHER REASON.

For anyone who doesn’t realize what I’m getting at, this past Thursday was 20 years to the day since Owen Hart fell to his death at Kemper Arena at the Over The Edge PPV.

It was a night I can never, and will never forget.

Being a minor at the time (I was I think 15), I had ZERO say over wanting to watch a PPV, let alone a WWF (Again, yes F) PPV. HOWEVER, there was a technique back in the day, where if you turned your TV to channel 1, you would get to LISTEN to the PPV while the video feed was scrambled.

So naturally, this is how I watched ALL PPVs from October ‘98 until about September 2001. Basically, until I got to college and could visit a Sports Bar and watch it properly. 

So, anyway, there I was, sitting in the basement, TV on (quietly) doing my homework. When IT happened. At first I didn’t realize what was going on. But as it dawned on me, I got really upset. I turned up the TV to better hear JR and Lawler. Of Course, this brought down my Mother who demanded I turn the TV off and focus on my homework. I refused shouting “You don’t understand, I THINK SOMEONE JUST DIED!”  My mom, not believing me, rolled her eyes and took the remote from me and clicked off the TV. She then proceeded to sit with me for the rest of the night and made sure I didn’t turn the TV back on. I never got to hear the end of the PPV and I never heard the official announcement of Owen’s death.

Fast Forward to the next morning. My mom, at 6am, rouses me to go to school by saying “Hun, get up. Wake up. Remember how you said someone died on WWF last night? You were right. I’m so sorry.”

I SHOT out of bed like a rocket and IMMEDIATELY called my Boyfriend’s house... at 6:15 am. I get his mother. “Hello??? YESS???? Who is there???” “Um yes, It’s Missy. Can you put Josh on the phone, it’s an emergency”

I had to be the one to tell him. He was a bigger wrestling fan than I was and I had to tell him. It wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to me all day though.

That came once I got to school. I arrived at school, and met up with my best friend at the time, Aurora. She was all excited and the first thing she asked me was “So... did Owen win the belt last night? Tell me, I need to know!” Y’all don’t understand. Owen Hart was her HERO. He wasn’t just her favorite superstar. Owen was to her what Shane was to me: Her reason to wake up in the morning and function. She had actually gotten to meet him years earlier and it was the “Best day of my life” she always told me.

Do you have any IDEA... and NOTION what it is like to tell a teenage girl that their hero just died? To tell ANYONE that? To just hear the words leave your mouth and just watch someone’s entire WORLD CAVE IN.

She just started SOBBING and fell to the ground because her legs refused to hold her any longer. And she lay there, on the floor of the upper commons, for a good seven or eight minutes after the bell to go to homeroom rang. She simply could not process anything. I eventually had to basically pick her up physically and guide her to her locker and homeroom because she couldn’t stop crying. 

Mind you, I was bullied almost non-stop from kindergarten until 11th grade. I spent a whole year of high school as a suicidal mess. I was humiliated by my “Friends” during school events several times that still haunt me.

This... this was the worst day of my entire childhood.

I really don’t want to remember much more than that. I watched RAW is OWEN that night and cried the entire time. Watching the superstars who I had so recently become vested in cry, WATCHING SHANE CRY, it only served to further cement Monday, May 24th, 1999 as one of the worst days of my entire life. 

I read an article tonight about how the event not only caused an ever further rift between the Harts and the McMahons, but also caused an internal fracturing of the Hart family. I don’t know enough about that to comment nor do I really want to. But I do know this. Bret makes a good point. By preventing the current WWE from airing/honoring/acknowledging anything about Owen, all that has happened is an entire generation has gone by and knows nothing of his legacy. While it may be for different reasons, he has been erased just as much as other superstars and alumni that have been blacklisted. I’m not naming names, but there are many people in the current HOF who don’t deserve it NEARLY as much as Owen does. But we all know he will never be allowed it and it SUCKS.

This has gone on way too long, but I felt the need to put this on here. I don’t know how many people will actually read this, and it’s almost more of a journal entry than anything. But to me, May 23rd is one of those days which I can’t help but notice as it comes and goes every year. Being the 20th anniversary just meant that I had to say something this time is all.

PS. Aurora was not the only best friend I ever had who went through this. My current BFF, on tumblr as @aquilalorelei, had to experience the death of Kevin Tod Smith (AKA Ares, from Xena). By being her friend all these years (I luckily didn’t befriend her until AFTER his death) I have seen proof that this kind of pain doesn’t go away. It lingers and eats at you. You might not have been a part of that person’s life IRL, but they were very much a part of yours. At least when an actual IRL loved one dies, you have memories with them to hold on to. Very few people ever get to experience meeting their heroes. Those that never do will never have that first-hand experience to remember. So do I think losing an idol is worse than losing a true love or family member? No, not worse. More like ‘equally painful in a different way’. In conclusion, I have posted twice tonight about the parallel worlds notion. Somewhere, in the multiverse, we can take solace in the fact that there is an alive and well Owen Hart who got to retire, and how resides in that world’s Hall Of Fame. We may not be lucky enough to ever experience that world. But the thought that it exists does cheer me up slightly. 

RIP Owen. We still haven’t forgotten you.
