Astrology Observations No.13
-just my opinions, please take them with a grain of salt !
Tumblr media
-Libras tend to only give significant attention to people they think are beautiful/pretty. (So if a libra man is messing around in your dms, you at least know you’re pretty! Lol) Subtly I’ve noticed that Taurus placements tend to do this as well? Like, they don’t write off people in the way some Libras do but I haven’t seen someone with Taurus in the big 6 dating someone that isn’t attractive or at least aesthetically pleasing.
-Stellium in 3rd/ mars in 3rd/ Gemini Mars and Stellium in 6th/ mars in 6th/ Virgo Mars: do you find yourself multitasking all the time? I find that multitasking helps me finish tasks faster 9 times out of 10. Like I need to have my attention in a few places at once to be efficient. (I love podcasts and drawing)
-Neptune conjunct moon, Pisces moon, moon in 12th: you have really deep intuition but not much clarity that comes with it. Like I had this like intense instinct go off that i was going to run into something one I cut off last year- and I was right! But only halfway lol, totally different dude than I expected lol. It’s like shaking a magic 8 ball, you’ve got an answer but not the answer lol.
Tumblr media
-I agree that your moon sign shows the most of your true personality, especially as you get past like 25. But with sun conjunct moon I’ve had a tricky time spotting this. I think it’s clearest with Aries and Aquarius moons for me. Aries moons have so much energy and they grow into being real leaders as they get older, and Aquarius moons have real stand out opinions and tend to live in their uniqueness more and attempt to conform less as they get older.
-Mercury in 3rd or Gemini or natal retrograde can mean you’re incapable of writing short little text messages lol. You either write a paragraph or send a lot of little texts successively.
-I find that Venus/Libra dominant people can be very charming in public and really judgmental in private/anonymously. They don’t want their opinions to clash with their pleasing persona.
Tumblr media
-Scorpio sun + Sagittarius moon/ Sagittarius sun + Scorpio Moon doesn’t mean you have to be wild but oml they’ve been some of the most extreme people I’ve ever met. I feel like these people are always bringing BIG energy into the room and changing things around them with that Jupiter/Pluto double whammy. (I have stories about every person I’ve known with those placements but my go to is an aunt that had a boyfriend that bought her a car and a dog and she crashed the car, abandoned the dog with my grandma, and broke up with the guy. He’s doing better now lol.)
-But on the flip side, Capricorn placements can bring in Saturn type changes and lesson to any environment they come into. I have a stellium so it’s hard for me to separate all the categories where I’ve seen places fall apart (usually work places and bad bosses but it applies to everyone)
But for sun- people get insecure and start acting from a place of ego, moon- emotional tension gets tested and people are more likely to react from petty places, Mercury- communication and technology that was patched together falls through in the weak places and systems get overwhelmed; Jupiter- Luck runs out for those that are flying by the seat of their pants and don’t really know what they’re doing; Neptune- no more delusions are allowed, lies and duplicity are exposed
And after I’ve left those places and their dysfunction behind it seems like the lessons continue on even more. I’m not sure why the effect lingers, except that Saturn will make you learn or punish you.

driving with prefects
Tumblr media
in honor of constantly being reminded that leona can drive, i am writing up a brief dorm leader head canon post. i just think it would be a fun set of head canons, you know? (also it’s been a bit since i’ve posted like content).
i haven’t read any translations for the new event ft. leona and whatnot. so if my head canons don’t align with canon...take it with a grain of salt.
for the sake of these head canons, i’m mostly thinking about manual cars. because i know magic enhanced technology exists within twst. but when i think about driving, i’m thinking about like...regular cars, you know.
malleus draconia
unfamiliar is malleus with manual cars. after all, they’re so different from vehicles operated by magic alone. when he gets behind the wheel, he’s very cautious. sometimes, the things he does are reckless (your heart was beating so fast it would have exploded). but that’s because he isn’t used to driving with stick. or even having experience with manually shifting the car into different modes. he also needs to put his seat as far back as possible because of how tall he is and he needs a tall car so his horns aren’t squished. it can get very uncomfortable very quickly.
child of man, this car is very confusing. how do i activate the windshield wipers? i would not want us to get into an accident.
riddle rosehearts
getting on the road is honestly the worst for him. riddle is an anxious driver. he hates traffic, hates people honking at him, and most certainly hates getting on parkways and highways. he doesn’t mind driving in the countryside where he can drive smoothly and as fast as he desires. no one’s around after all. but with other people, he becomes a mess. he also has a bit of road rage within him. you’ve never heard someone curse as much as he did when someone cut him off. riddle also happens to follow the rules a little too well. he’s always going under or at the speed limit, always checking his blind spots, always signalling his turns even in parking lots. he is, arguably, the best parker.
oh come on! didn’t even signal while switching lanes! cut me off and everyone else too! there’s more than you in the world you know!
vil schoenheit
vil is an awful driver. not in the sense that he doesn’t follow the general rules of driving (because great seven forbid he gets into an accident and it becomes a scandal) but in the way that his braking tends to be...janky. his turns can range from being smooth to jarring. and the man lacks the ability to park. he’s horrible at parking. you learned your lesson when you got into the car with him driving (better off with rook). ironically, he’s a lot better at driving while he’s multitasking, like touching up his makeup or answering phone calls. honestly, he just needs a little practice. with every drive, he improves even in the slightest. he has no problem dedicating hours to practicing driving either. he just doesn’t have the time right now.
normally i don’t drive. my father had drivers for me. but i can. it’s just...been a while. i’m a little rusty is all.
leona kingscholar
leona, having driven for a while now, is one of the best drivers amongst the prefects (and arguably the whole school). he follows the general rules but definitely enjoys going fast. he especially likes to take scenic routes (there’s something peaceful about late night drives, you know). however, he is very possessive of the aux. you’re not allowed to play your playlists unless it’s a really long trip. besides, he prefers to listen to podcasts and audiobooks while driving. he kind of has a conversation with the audiobook or podcast. it’s cute to watch leona react in real time.
that is ridiculous! doesn’t she understand that he’s the bad guy? that he’s awful? she’s better off getting with the second lead anyways!
azul ashengrotto
putting a creature from the seat into a car is a bad idea. there’s only one person that is, arguably, worse than vil. and that is azul. now, it’s not really azul’s fault. he’s not really used to land traffic rules. but that doesn’t take away from the fact that you have almost gotten into a plethora of accidents with azul behind the wheel. he gets pretty anxious while on the road and does his turn signals, lane changes. but he’s pretty awful at guessing distance and lacks spatial awareness. naturally, this also inhibits his parking skills. his parking skills are pretty awful.
the coral sea traffic is not nearly as bad. i mean half of these rules don’t even make sense (y/n)!
kalim al-asim
kalim is a wonderful driver! his driving is really smooth and he’s a joy with to be in the car. there’s always something to talk about while he’s driving. and he’ll let you play your music, podcast, audiobook. the two of you have had so many lovely conversations while driving. there isn’t much to say. plus, kalim is pretty great at parking too. he’s always willing to go on errand runs with you and take you out on late night drives.
oh (y/n)! you need to get something from the grocery store? i was heading there anyways. hop in!
idia shroud
much to your surprise, you learned that idia is not an anxious driver. he seems like he would be. but no. he feels like he’s in a video game whenever he drives. and he absolutely loves the adrenaline rush that he gets from going fast. slamming on that gas petal is extremely satisfying to him. furthermore, traffic becomes a puzzle to him. a puzzle to solve on how to get out of traffic. everyone else becomes npcs. and you have almost thrown up from how motion sick you’ve gotten in his car.
ohohoho! traffic? guess we can play a game of how to escape! it should be relatively easy considering how all the normies drive.

ok. ok. ok. eleventh hour #thots
spoilers obviously
really well and truly i have the zoomies. i feel so motivated to work on some fuckinnnnnnnnnng fanfiction right now
i'm high off that last scene with taakitz right now just bc it is most recent in my heart. can you believe it. CAN I MAKE YOU DINNER??? CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???
while i'm sad that a lot of my favorite bits from this arc got cut they kept the most important one (to me) in. well we need to talk don't we...... because you boys have added quite a bit to your death count, haven't you...............
AND THEY REALLY FUCKING HAVE DIED. A LOT. WAY MORE THAN IN CANON, HUH??? eleventh hour arc more like the fuckin... eleven hundredth hour arc...ba dum tiss
anyways yeah despite me saying that thing up there ^ about them cutting stuff (they changed SO MUCH??? WOW) i actually think the way it was edited from podcast into graphic novel form is really FUCKING good, like they just keep getting better at it with every fucking book
obviously the death montage was great, like great use of space, but i also LOVED how they spliced the lunar interlude into flashbacks between loops...
and when they got the chalice??? with the memories and then meeting chalice!june??? that fucked so hard. that was really fuckin good
honestly overall i rly rly loved it. i mean /obviously/ but god it's so good huh. fuck. i do think some parts of the podcast hit harder (splicing ren's subplot into the banking thing was smart but i do prefer the magic lessons for diamonds bit... ren i was watching the whole time) but then some parts of the gn eleventh hour also really fucking own.
like the DEATHS, OBVIOUSLY, but that first one... the first loop... i rly felt it. the bank and the fire and the town collapsing!!! THEY WOULDA DIED IF IT WASN'T A TIME LOOP!!! it was for srs. i think it hits harder to see it visually?
also about taako. taako is so much nicer in the books its kinda funny. sincerely telling a victim of a fire that they were going to be okay... in podcast that would be the time for Taako Lies... asking magnus and merle if they're alright....
i think i prefer podcast taako bc i like him Mean With Brief Snatches of Good Underneath. LOL. in the gn he's so sincere. who is this boy. i get what they're goin for but wow
anyways brief notes before i go meme
rly liked the addition of cassidy's backstory, thought it was v sweet
LOVED the convo between merle and cretia
PHILLIPPE? WHOMST?
PHILIPPE???? LMAO
baby boys? BABY BOYS? BOYS AS BABIES? THE BOYS? KIDS?
TAAKO'S AUNT??????? IOETJFDG;LKSDJF AUNTIE???
taako so delightedly robbing the bank is so funny to me bc the thing that got me into taz was that one animatic where taako's like WE CAN'T ROB A BANK. PEOPLE DO BUSINESS HERE! so lmao
also missed TAAKO GETS THE GOLD!!! but i get why it was changed
oh yeah i ry liked magnus's interlude with carey...... took out all the awkward and just made it sweet. loved that
ISTUS???
JULIA???
BARRY??? BAORLD???

Driving Habits  -Heartslabyul Edition
Can they drive? If so, what kind of drivers are they? What are their car habits?
Characters; Riddle Rosehearts, Ace Trappola, Deuce Spade, Cater Diamond & Trey Clover
Content; swearing, mentions of road rage
Author’s Note; NRC has a school radio for this (honestly a school radio would be kinda cool ngl), pretending that TWST gets our music from here
Word Count; 900+
Find the Rest of the Series; Savanaclaw, Octavinelle, Scarabia, Pomefiore, Ignihyde, Diasomnia
Author’s Note; As a reminder, do not put my work — or others for that matter — into AI as it steals. Link to Masterlist
Riddle Rosehearts
Follows the rules of the road to a T. If he’s feeling a bit adventurous he may go a little faster than the speed limit but that’s pretty much it. Has his routes memorized and hates taking different ones.
Would probably listen to a news/classical music radio station. No one is allowed to change it under any circumstance. He controls the aux.
Keeps his phone on silent and in the back seat to avoid distraction. It doesn’t matter who calls or texts him, he is only looking and potentially answering it once he reaches his destination.
The only sign that the car is not brand new is the little hedgehog plush that sits on his dash and a novelty cake air freshener… and a cursed Bibble bumper sticker that Ace put on that will not budge and it infuriates him to no end.
Has bad road rage, but is usually just content to condemn the interloper by muttering to himself. Has laid down on the horn for those who really crossed the line and turns up his music to try and calm down.
Ace Trappola
Semi-decent driver, not the best, not the worst. A bit of a speed demon but not to the extent of getting ticketed. Sometimes forgets some rules of the road, but nothing major.
The glove box is filled with snacks; he did not keep the manual for the car. He probably listens to some magic podcast (only when he’s alone), ‘90s-2000s pop (again alone), and with friends, he plays alternative rap or classic rock. Trey did catch him singing his heart out to Barbie Girl and he’s still mortified.
His phone is sitting in the cupholder and he checks it at red lights (do not be like Ace).
Probably has a magic eight-ball on his dash. Has an assortment of bumper stickers ranging from “I honk for MILFs” to qr stickers to the most hated songs, but not to the point that you can’t make out what they are.
Also has road rage, and will flip off and honk at people. People will do the same to him when he breaks the rules of the road and gets mad at them, starting a honking war.
Deuce Spade
A defensive driver, and tends to go a bit slower than the speed limit. He knows that the only thing he can control on the road is himself, and holds himself accountable. He also does regular maintenance on it to keep it to road standards.
Usually doesn’t listen to the radio or a playlist while driving. If he does decide to put something on though it’s usually very quiet so it doesn’t distract him.
His phone is on silent and in the back. He pulls over whenever he hears his emergency contact (mum) call, turns off the car and takes the call outside.
Has a little chicken sitting on his rear view mirror. He also has a few trinkets from friends but nothing too large or distracting. Cleans it out whenever he notices a mess. Ace has also tagged his bumper sticker but with the “No Bitches?” meme, he wasn’t happy finding it.
He tries his best to stay calm and has only honked at people a few times. Has only gotten pissed on a few occasions but those people were most likely driving dangerously.
Cater Diamond
He’s an average driver. Drives defensively thanks to the lessons he had to sit through with his two older sisters.
You can usually catch him singing along to pop and indie songs, or whatever is popular. He also keeps his car clean, but not so clean that it doesn’t look lived in.
His phone isn’t on silent, but he does keep it in a small bag on the floor of the front passenger side. Yes, it does occasionally distract him but he has not yet texted or called while driving.
Definitely has an aesthetic figurine sitting on his dash. Probably would also have a crystal hanging from the rear view mirror. He has a few other things hanging around, including an extra cardigan tied to the back of the driver’s seat.
Doesn’t get road rage per se, but he does trash talk people’s driving. He probably had a dash cam installed so he could record potential events that he could vent about on a separate account; he doesn’t want his online personality getting tarnished due to someone cutting him off and letting out muttered insults.
Trey Clover
A great defensive driver. Will offer to give lessons to his younger dorm mates if he notices them struggling. Mini van haver.
He listens to the school radio, enjoying the random songs that come on and also the local weather report. He gets less enthused though if he hears about the latest shenanigans any of his younger dorm mates get into.
His phone isn’t on silent, but he keeps it in the back seat; he can’t afford to have it on silent, less something or someone catches on fire. He eventually will get a blue tooth earpiece; the last time he didn’t pick up for Riddle, the flamingos managed to escape.
He doesn’t have many of his own personal decorations, but his siblings have left behind some of their toys whenever he has to drive them places when his parents are busy. You can also always find some sort of snack hiding around somewhere.
He just sighs heavily whenever someone cuts him off or is otherwise just rude. The only time you can see him get irritated is if that happens while his siblings or friends are in the car with him.

Hi :) Listened to your season 5 podcast and it got me thinking
So Raylas arc is all about her being too ready to sacrifice herself for the greater good
While Callum is ready to sacrifice the greater good for other people
( I know this very simply but I have poor explaining skills )
Anyway, both characters need to learn lessons based on those morales........
Like Callum needs to learn that sometimes you have to let people go
go, that he can't save everyone
and Rayla needs to learn that sometimes that she doesn't has to die for the greater good, that she deserves to do things for her happiness which don't involve putting the world above herself.....
So my question is : Do you think someone is going to die in Season 6 ?
Because I think it would be more dramatic to see both lessons and that it really depends on the situation when you have to decide which one to choose..............
See, I don't think it's as simple as they just need to learn one (1) lesson as opposed to the other. Rayla should be saving people and she should want to save them (hi 4x05), it's one of the best things about her. It is, as Callum says, "what makes her a hero. What makes her Rayla." She doesn't need to not save people - she just needs to learn to ask for help to save them, and that she doesn't always have to be 100% sacrificial in doing so.
Same thing for Callum. His big flaw isn't his love for his loved ones - if anything, both Rayla and Ezran need a counterbalance of someone who will choose them over anyone and everything else - but arguably his curiosity and pride, as Finnegrin points out: "You're a slave to your [...] pride. / Just one dark magic spell, and you never thought about it again?" Callum is beginning to learn that knowledge, and too much knowledge, can be a burden in its own right.
Cause Callum is pretty good at letting people go. He's able to leave Harrow and the tower in 1x03 to go with Rayla and Ezran; he's able to let Ezran go home in 2x09; he's able to let Rayla go after Viren, again, in 4x09. When they're doing something because he knows they have to (that it's a part of them) and not needless suffering or death or guilt.
I think Callum's arc will eventually be him gaining enough power/knowledge that no one can take his agency away again, but it'll take time for him to get there. For Rayla, her path is more straightforward with her sacrifice.
But I don't think Callum learning that he shouldn't prioritize the people he loves to the degree that he does is the answer; I don't think there's anything wrong with that level of devotion and care (even if in a fantasy world, it can be a dangerous exploitable weakness). At most, I think Claudia may have an arc like that, and even then it'll be her learning how to prioritize them in away that's healthier for everyone. TDP doesn't say we should ever give up our bonds of love (even if many characters struggle and strain and break because of them) but that we must hold onto them and work to keep them strong and compassion and healthy as much as we can.
I also don't think anyone from the main cast (Claudia, Callum, Ezran, Rayla, Terry, Soren) is going to die in S6, but I could see minor characters - Pharos, Miyana, Lujanne, Barius, Opeli, Associate Crowlord - kicking the bucket.

I believe you can bypass the limitations of your chart with manifestation.
People do it by declaring their circumstances as null and void and they completely re-route life paths that could have occurred if they, like the astrologers centuries ago, believed that your conditioning and external world shapes your destiny. Astrologers themselves use planetary magic to do this. But you can go much, much further. I don't believe that fortune and abundance require work or are temporary.
All you have to do is change how you see yourself and your relationship to xyz. Let's talk about the biggest problem areas -
🩷 Challenging Venus aspects and placements = You have a difficult time believing you're worthy of things that feel good to you so you detach or sabotage them. Like love. You don't think you can be loved.
The fix? Thinking or believing (whatever's easier) that you're loved and adored and well taken care of. Then sticking to it no matter what opposing feedback you're given or doubts you have. Eventually, you'll start seeing people as more loving and kind and relationships will easily flourish because you'll expect they will. Then boom--You won't have the need to feel skeptical or suspicious of partners, people, etc. That Venus/Pluto, Venus/Neptune, or Venus/Saturn's suddenly bypassed. That need to force, manipulate, or run will simply be gone. And that also means any transits challenging these aspects won't be felt as deeply or at all, imo. It's no longer a 'life long lesson.'
💲Challenges affecting your 2H = You have difficulties around money. This affects most people and is more complex but I'd primarily look at this, the part of fortune (where are efforts succeed/are challenged), and the condition of your Jupiter and Neptune bc they'll show deeper beliefs around how you perceive your circumstances and your role in it. The people w/ the biggest money issues have underlying negative beliefs about it that'll be connected w/ the areas above.
The fix? Thinking/believing you're rich, well taken care of, always receive money, are lucky with it, etc. Insert typical finance-bro discusses 'mindset' in podcast form. Cringe and Capitalism aside, if the worst types of people are rich, if we subtract exploitation, and simply look at how they're thinking, what separates them from everyone else is that they see themselves and their earning potential differently and not seeing money as evil. Where I veer off is the idea that you need to hustle, suffer, and exploit others in order to succeed financially. You don't have to.
Money comes to people in odd and miraculous ways and there are outliers who make money online by simply existing and having a platform and people find them charismatic enough to pay exponentially. You get into the dirt and grime under whatever ideas about money you have and decide you're worthy, can have it whenever you want, are the best at x-job, etc. Dwell in that and the world will reflect that change. Then boom! No more limiting beliefs that'll come into play if a bad transit or solar year hits the money points in your chart.

similar question to another person, how does someone get INTO writing? i keep wanting to but i feel like idk where to start. like i dont know what to write or when or how etc just that i want to do the act of writing it may be driving meinsane<3
*cracks knuckles* Ok, I'm gonna try to give a serious answer to this because honestly, it's hard for me to say, because for me writing was largely about not being able to stop?
It's a tough hobby and a lot of work, so it's very valid to first ask yourself why you want to get into it, what you hope to get out of it, and how will it impact you if you don't get what you want out of it right away or it takes more work than you expected to reach a point where you get it? But assuming you are burning up with a desire to write, even if no one ever reads it, just to get the story out of your soul, I'd say:
1 ) Read a lot. Then copy relentlessly. Don't plagiarize word for word obviously, but one exercise that's recommended sometimes is to transcribe a piece of writing you really enjoy just to get a sense for the structure of how it's written.
2 ) Start small. Writing 100 words used to leave me literally sweating from the exertion (nowadays, I write 1,000 by accident just as a warmup, so you will get there!). Writing 100 little 100 word drabbles is a great place to start! You can tell a pretty effective little story in 100-500 words, actually. A 100k word fic takes comparable dedication to running a marathon. Pace yourself accordingly. You're still in the "learning to walk" stage, but the rest will come with time and practice.
3 ) Don't wait. Holy shit, do not wait. There is no writing class that will magically turn you into a writer, ok? There's no piece of advice, there's no lesson, there's not gatekeeper, there's absolutely no one who gets to decide you're a writer except you, when you decide whether or not to write. The longer you wait, the more time you waste at getting good. You will only get better with practice.
Don't wait to take a class, for the love of god, just start writing something, anything. You're not actually in a place to understand the advice of teachers and "how to" books out there, in my opinion, until you've written a few (dozen) stories or drabbles. And you really, really should not take a formal class until you're confident enough in your work to a) be able to hear someone say it's not good and not care because you know they're wrong but b) actually want to get better as a writer, including taking tough criticism and picking which criticism you act on based on your own instincts. It's a tough, tough place to reach and not recommended for most hobbyists just trying to have fun, IMO.
4 ) But if you do want to start looking at formal tips, podcasts, and resources, I recommended my alma mater writing workshop as the first place I went that taught craft in a structured way. Go here for their free podcasts and other resources.

How can you motivate yourself to practice? I'm so busy with work and other daily life things that I often don't have time, energy or motivation to practice, or I just forget. Time goes so fast these days and suddenly I've missed the last two sabbaths and full moon, then I get bad conscience and feel like I'm a "bad" or "failed" witch. (I struggle a lot with self deprecation in general with my mental health) Do you have any tips on how I can motivate myself to practice more?
Oof, I hear you. We all have the best of intentions when it comes to keeping up with our practice and making progress on our goals and projects, but damnit, Real Life just keeps on getting in the way.
Ideally, we'd all be able to keep perfect track of the occasions we wish to celebrate and the cycles of the moon AND have time and energy to devote to our practices on top of taking care of silly things like jobs and families and social lives and household management. Ideally, we'd be well-read, well-rested, well-organized, and perfectly in command of our faculties.
It's nice to dream, isn't it?
In reality, we're all doing the best we can and despite our best efforts, we miss holidays and moon dates and gatherings and go weeks or months without having time to sit down and actively work on our craft. And that is OKAY. None of it means we're bad people or failed witches. It just means we're human beings with human lives and human limitations. We can only do so much with 24 hours in a day.
The nice thing is that the craft meets us where we are, and if that means waiting a while, it's got a loooong shelf life. Besides that, practicing witchcraft isn't JUST performing rituals and casting spells and lighting up the altar. It's research and rest and reflection too.
In my practice, I've found that doing small things as part of my daily routine and larger things when I have time really helps. For instance, stirring a blessing into my morning drink, or setting my wards when I lock the front door, or wearing a charmed piece of jewelry. I do my best to keep track of the moons using reminders and a planner so I can put my jars out, but I forget sometimes. It's annoying, but there's always another one coming. And I find ways to make things I'm already doing magical as well, like cleansing my home when I clean or take out the garbage or reconnecting with the land I live on while doing yard work.
And when all else fails, I take a break and go back to the things that inspire me. I work on crafts. I journal. I try something new. I listen to music and watch movies and maybe re-read some things, and I give myself a little grace. (I've run myself into a full burnout before by ignoring my limits before. I don't recommend it.) Then when I have the time and energy, I get back to work.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. Later, Gary became part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and was one of its first presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.  The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

2023 year in review roundup
wow!! what a fucking year!!! goodbye and good riddance! happy first day of 2024!
this year i did 37 tuesdayposts! there were 53 tuesdays so that's about 70%! some of them were on fri/sat instead as shabbosposts but i think posting on tuesday or even monday does just work better for some fucking reason. maybe because friday and saturday are days that i am most likely to do New Activities for making/playing/watching/reading??? and so on monday or tuesday i can recap the just-finished weekend. shrug! we love tuesday so it's fine.
listening listened to all of twilight mirage and a little over half of partizan! shrieking shack podcast, just king things, well there's your problem, miscellaneous music (maneskin probably a notable winner in there)
reading a lot of little articles. a little tgcf. SO much fanfic. 'every heart a doorway' (bad). 'birthday of the world' le guin (good).
playing a little disco elysium. a little minecraft. a little nier automata. a little hadesgame. a LOT of pokemon go. and i got into magic the gathering this year!
watching a lot of youtube videos. so many gd youtube videos. evangelion, history of the world part ii, cunk on earth, vox machina animated series, cowboy bebop, first season of peaky blinders, the new tgcf donghua season!
making i did very little drawing/painting/illustration beyond life drawing a few times...however i was very prolific in crafting! i also theoretically made valentines gifts. i do not remember what they were tho lol.
fiber arts: i completed a big embroidery project (fermenting dregs album art hoodie), quantum shawl, mesh market bag, case for my knew laptop, finished that blue tank top even though i hate it, fixed the lining on my yellow knitted cowl, made a little knitted headphone top cover that i will probably redo differently, headband ear warmer for my roommate's mom, and FINALLY i just barely finished the scarf for my SO before the end of 2023!
print block carving: wristwatch print, gavelbocken holiday card print
misc/writing: some songxuexiao fencing au. some harrowhark abhorsen au. neocities website!
and so much pottery! this is all of it, barring the things i already gave away as presents before this photo (two pots and a little box and the little raven guy), but wow! that's so many fuckin object!
Tumblr media
misc what a fucking year. some bad! had to file a big car insurance claim! got really sick while abroad and that persisted for a long fucking time! mini summer breakdown! some good stuff too - passed quantum mechanics FOREVER good fucking bye, did my first successful academic conference, finally started feeling better around the end of the year! learned my lesson: it's not fuckin worth stressing yourself to death over, and also i can't just Be At Home Aimlessly for months any more. it's bad for my mental health.
reviewing 2023 resolutions and goals --> I’d love to start writing again and play more horn but we’ll see i basically didn't do any creative writing at all this year barring a few lines of fanfic ideas (the abhorsen/tlt crossover one) HOWEVER i READ a lot of fanfic to marinate in and i played a LOT more french horn!! i joined the little youth orchestra which is like, uber goofy, but it means ive been playing on a regular basis again!
--> I also wanna listen to more weird music, and invest in actually owning some files, especially for some of the lesser-known bands and through bandcamp and stuff i spent all year meaning to do this and kept pushing it off so it rolls over into next year.
--> I really want to kind of dial those [unhealthy coping mechanisms] back again, focus more on existing in Reality and more in each moment, which hopefully will also help with some of the skin picking and other anxious habits that resurfaced. maybe more yoga, maybe re-establishing a meditation process lol lmao. nah. but definitely rolling it over into 2024.
--> I would love to think more about my fashion and how I present myself too, and work on making and tailoring more of my clothing in general actually not bad! basically zero tailoring but i did a pretty good job wearing some cute outfits.
--> I’ve been pretty good about being active so I’d like to keep that up, I still can’t do a pull-up but maybe this is the year! (lol) I should also start doing some minor exercises for my shitty arthritis toes to keep those okay once again: lol lmao. health issues had me really regress in some of my gains goals. plus side is toes are doin pretty normal.
--> a lot of last year was kind of a wash regarding research so I’m really looking forward to refocusing on that and really getting things moving. oh it moved! in a good way! i'm making good progress and hopefully i will keep that momentum going!
--> finally! I want to get back to tabletop! I miss doing it so much! it fell by the wayside for me because of how busy and overwhelmed I was, especially this past fall semester, but I want to start running and playing games with my pals again a little! i should have been putting these in playing as i went oops. the tabletop group i've run was a little fallow this year due to at least half of our group, including myself, not being in Tabletop Mood but we've played a lot of res arcana and other such games instead.
i had a few other resolutions in my digital planner on my ipad that didn't go in the writeup last year: namely, practice languages more (i did practice my mandarin a little but did not really learn any hebrew or korean unfortunately) and establish a non-software component of my research (nope, not in the cards, but i'm hoping to do something else this summer to let me get better with physical data/setups), and finishing the masters degree requirements (that will be the end of this upcoming spring semester), but overall i really did hit most of my resolutions and goals! even with being ill for a while! (except the finances. i am simply not looking at them <3)
2024 resolutions and goals
definitely some rollover! i will format this to hopefully be a little easier to respond to next year:
- get back on a regular workout schedule: swimming 1x a week, weights once or twice a week. would like to try and work towards my One Pullup goal again. would also be cool to try and work towards a hand/headstand. - try and be more mindful. i'm going to continue the grief therapy but also think about meditating more, doing more yoga, and so on. - there's a gallery on main street that solicits work from local artists for bimonthy themed exhibitions and i really want to submit at least one thing to it this year! the one due by end of january is themed 'florals', and the one two months after that is 'layers', so i'd really like to submit something to one of those. - more weird art! use that big canvas i bought in literally 2022! paint!!! - finally put together that travel journal from korea & japan (and also scrapbook-ify the papers i have leftover in a pile from that) - also, maybe do current scrapbook a little different? might need a new binder at the very least. - hang up that expensive quilt i bought in august - speaking of quilt: do some hand quilting, english paper piercing! i have so much fucking fabric! - find a new apartment to move into that hopefully won't suck! - try to secure some sort of summer internship or project that will let me develop some new skillsets that i might not be getting with my current research - finish the masters degree - write...a paper? for the work i just presented??? - keep tweaking neocities and make some more pages - keep track of recipes this year as well in my making section
i might start a little spreadsheet this year to keep better track of all my stuff because i really did Not want to go through all my separate listening and reading sections and extract what i liked the most, etc. this post required me to first back up a few extra early tuesdayposts from this year to dreamwidth, and then skim all of them to accumulate the above, and that was kinda a pain. and i love an excuse to start a new spreadsheet.
we did it! happy 2024! i don't think i have anything else to add to this wrapup but if i think of something i'll tack it into the upcoming Normal Tuesdaypost tomorrow! good job good night and good luck everyone!

Hi Mark! Happy Birthday! Been playing magic for a little over a decade, following your blog for much of that time. First time writing in, just made an account to do that! Wanted to let you know that I use the lessons you've taught on your blog and podcast for many things. My number one is restrictions breed creativity. I'm vegan, and have had to learn how to cook without using almost any "normal" ingredients and remembering your words has helped me become way more adventurous in the kitchen, modifying recipes and making my own. It's helped me discover a new passion of mine. Thank you for all your insights. I hope to write in often now that I have a Tumblr.
Thanks for making an account to write in.
