Disney might be all over the place in terms of quality and who they want to support vs. who they want to marginalize these days.

However, let’s remember that has not always been the case. Let’s remember that Disney invented the modern animated feature film. Not helped it along—not made it famous—invented it. Everything from modern anime to recent smash-hits like Across the Spider-Verse owes something to Disney.

Disney HAS BEEN a safe place, largely, for kids and families to enjoy good and true things. Let’s also remember that the current company is enormous and is made up of individuals, some of whom loudly or desperately disagree with the decisions made by the corporate heads or largest shareholders in the company. I know one, personally.

Movies like Lilo & Stitch were supposed to remind everyone what family means. Movies like Beauty and the Beast were supposed to remind everyone that love hopes all things. Movies like The Lion King were supposed to remind kids that responsibility doesn’t have to be a bad or selfish thing.

So when Disney does something that is sad or disruptive, I’d politely suggest that you don’t say, “$%!@ Disney!!!” or “Disney sucks.” Say what I say. “Not my Disney.”

Their "woke" corporate persona is very different from what it’s films and values seemed to be as recently as ten years ago. Think of it like a friend who’s not acting like themselves anymore. “#NotMyDisney” 🤷‍♀️

Thinking on your Mermaid AU...

Are the uncles around? I imagine Tony (with a rich blue tail) and Arthur (a bright yellow tail), both love swimming and racing with dolphins. They sometimes sneak the bros out at night and teach them how to speed-swim and jump, leaping towards the night sky.

Mia finds it charming, Pio isn't always amused as he doesn't want to risk his family being seen even at night.

Ah so first of all, I want to apologise for not talking about Tony or Arthur (or even the rest of the family much) in this AU - mostly because I have been so focused on Mia and Pio, the Bros, and Peach - that I just forgot about them! ^^;

Yes, the uncles are around. I really love the idea of Tony having a blue tail, and Arthur a yellow tail ^^ And I especially love your idea of them teaching the bros how to swim and jump 🥰. For context, here is a video of a baby dolphin learning to jump and belly flopping. Imagine this is the bros. You are welcome 😊.

So, in context of the world building, relations between the surface and Atlantica is very strained, and becomes even more so after Mia chooses to leave the surface to live with the mer-people. So I don't think Tony or Arthur (given the sincerity of it all) would risk their nephews lives just to get up to "mischief". I wouldn't even say that they need to sneak out to teach the bros the basics of survival. They just make sure their lessons are far away from the shore and any major fishing spots the surface dwellers use.

Night swims do sound like such a great bonding experience with their nephews though 💗. I imagine that they would wait until the boys are a bit older, and take them on trips to show them the stars - which you can imagine greatly fascinates the young ones ^^

Pio is wary of the risks at night, and even concerned that this may lead to huge consequences. But Mia tells him that it is fine. After all, Tony and Arthur are powerful mermen too (not as powerful as Pio but still enough) and it's important for the boys to learn about the world.

Also, because I don't know where else to put this, what if a part of Luigi's mer-magic is affiliated with the moon in some way (since irl the moon's gravitational pull does play a part in how the tides are affected)?
