are you researching about pinochet's dictatorship in general, or a specific topic? It makes me sad but I'm thinking about also researching about it
Hi anon! I'm doing my thesis on Retablo de Yumbel, a play by Isidora Aguirre that talks about the Laja Massacre on 1973 under Pinochet's dictatorship. Sadly most of my sources are in Spanish, but the Rememberance and Human Rights Museum in Chile has an english page with first hand testimony and research on the topic from the 60s to present time.
If you want sources as in books, I can recommend Gabriel Salazar's books on the more historical side. But I am a literature major, and the topics that I have a special interest in are the remembrance and narratives around it, so my recommendations go more by that side
In books that are more "tellings" or fictions "Tengo miedo, Torero" (I'm afraid, my bullfighter) by Pedro Lemebel not only sheds light on the dictatorship by itself, but also on queer issues. Isabel Allende's "House of spirits" is absolutely translated and you *should* read her books. Nona Fernández's "La dimensión desconocida" (Unkown dimension) and "Space Invaders" are two of the more recognized modern books on the topic, which are fairly recent and are translated! So give them a read
If you want outright testimony "Tejas Verdes: diario de un campo de concentración en Chile" (Tejas Verdes: Diary of a concentration camp in Chile) by Hernán Valdés tells his own experience in the detention camp. Is the first testimony book about the time published in Chile and you'll find a lot of important stuff in there. Also books like "Amor, te sigo esperando" (My love, I still wait for you) is a new one about mothers and widows that are still looking for their loved ones who disappeared.
If you want theatre, Retablo de Yumbel is one of my favorite plays ever, but also "Los que van quedando en el camino" (The ones that were left behind on the road) also from Isidora Aguirre. Nona Fernández's "Liceo de Niñas" (Girl's High School), Ariel Dorfman's "La muerte y la doncella" (The death and the lady) (This one is noy only tranlsated but presented around the world. You can absolutely find a copy), and Marco Antonio de la Parra's "La puta madre" (Mother whore) are good reads, but I don't know if they're translated. Also I can recommend Juan Radrigán's work, and Jorge Díaz's.
If you want poetry, Raúl Zurita, Damiela Eltit, Nicanor Parra and Víctor Jara. I'm not much of a poetry guy, but I bet you can find a lot of their work translated.
If you look for art, the obligatory one is Miguel Lawner's "Venceremos!: Dos años en los campod de concentración de Chile" (We will win!: Two years in the concentration camps in Chile) which I know for a fact is translated to at least english and portuguese; those are the drawings that represent different scenes on Dawson Island and other camps were Lawner was. You can also look at the Rememberance and Human Rights museum in Chile with a pretty complete collection of art, both in the recognized art world and clandestine and domestic world.
If you're looking for movies, I think "NO" by Pablo Larraín is a very good watch that talks about the end of the dictatorship. Also "1976" by Manuella Martelli. Honorary mention to "Bear Story" by Gabriel Osorio for being a short film with no dialogue that also tackles the topic.
Also shot out to the series "Los 80" (The 80s), which is a chilean soap opera about a middle class family living through the dictatorship and everything that ensues. It's on Amazon Prime, tho I don't know if it's translated.
If you're looking for documentaries, I think "Colonia dignidad: Una secta alemana en el sur de Chile" (Dignidad Colony: A german cult in the south of Chile) is a very good watch. It's on Netflix and completely in english. Also "ReMastered: Massacre in the National Stadium", also on Netflix, talks about the murder of Víctor Jara (Tho there's new developments on the case). But the ultimate ones are everything that Patricio Guzmán ever did. "La Batalla de Chile" (Chile's battle) a series of 3 documentaries that tell the story of the country between 1972 and 1973 on the historical front. In the remembrance front he has "El botón de nácar" (The nacre button) about Villa Grimaldi and the Death Flights and "Nostalgia for the Light" about the Atacama desert, the concentration camp there and other searchings that were done there.
I hope this helps a bit to start. Sorry if I went a little bit overboard, and I do wish you the best researching the topic. These are all off the top of my head so I definitely forgot some important ones lol

Cogito Ergo Sum
[ENG]
I think, therefore I am
Ever since I discovered René Descartes and his constant search for a belief in which he can be sure, I have dedicated myself to the same thing; to seek that something beyond me in which I can trust and believe, I have devoted myself to finding a base to build myself, to develop myself, but doubt makes me restrict myself and not dare to explore new things.
Just as Descartes does, I analyze my environment, the people I live with and their manners, I question their decisions and how these have affected or influenced the way they express themselves or simply are; I do not seek to judge them, because I do not have the power to do so, rather I take what makes the most sense to me or what is most distinctive about those individuals and then save them as that "something" that caught my attention, that made noise to me or that I had desire to adopt in my own way of being and living.
The hypothesis of eliminating all beliefs and hopes or at least eliminating them as much as possible to start from scratch seems to me an interesting proposition, doubting everything and everyone I think is part of the process of the formation of each human being and why not , of each living being, on the other hand, I believe that questioning everything generates problems of trust and internal conflicts that lead to self-exclusion, isolation and fear of being hurt, regardless of the setting or context.
To follow from Descartes's postulate, he eventually came to a belief or statement that he cannot doubt. Because it thinks, there has to be a subject/being that makes that think, therefore, it exists.
With this, I want to think that I am a tangible and real being that has affected or influenced other people or situations/milestones in life, that I am a valid being and aware of their actions and words, and that these have led me to current position, be it for better or worse.
Despite the "need" or hope of feasible existence, I believe that I simply "am", I simply exist as an essence/presence that has convinced itself enough to believe in the tangible and physical that what we call life. has introduced us.
I don't know…maybe the belief behavior is ingrained, maybe it's instinctual and purely human.
[ESP]
Pienso, luego existo
;) !!!

Mentalidad de Tiburon Libro  / Shark Mentality Book *both English/Spanish review*
Tumblr media

Shark Mentality Book Review
Tumblr media
SHARK MENTALITY 🦈 is a book written by Manuel Sotomayor Landecho. Where he exposes and explains that the shark mentality is to keep moving, keep moving forward no matter what happens. Why the shark? The shark analogy comes from the scientific fact that sharks can never stop swimming since they lack a swim bladder, which allows fish to float; and because they open their mouths while swimming to absorb oxygen through their gills. If they stop swimming, they stop floating and breathing. In the book, the first 12 laws tell us about how to discover and how access that mentality that is already in us. The importance of this 13th law is to help us remember and come back to the 12 rules.
These are the 13 Laws that Sotomayor narrates in his book and that I find very beneficial to implement in our daily lives.
1. You will learn to know yourself day by day, to perfectly identify how you work.
2. You will dream big and trust yourself no matter what people think about you.
3. Before wanting something and looking for more, you will learn to share and value every little thing that is present in your life.
4. You will set measurable goals and you will develop a reason, which will be your engine and your motivation.
5. You will enjoy and learn from each experience, be it good or bad, to be better and better.
6. You will always fight with strength and values towards your goals, having faith that you are destined to achieve something great.
7. You will never give in to anything or anyone because your mind is more powerful than your body and your feelings.
8. Do not allow any excuse to stop you or divert you from your dream.
9. You will care for and nurture your body as the most precious and valuable instrument you have.
10. You will control the fun and not let it control you, you will only grab it to relax and clear your mind.
11. You will not allow yourself to be common and mediocre.
12. In everything you set out to do, you will endure pain and fatigue, beyond what any human being could endure.
13. When you feel weak, sad, tired, or even afraid, you will resort to the 1, 4, 6, 7, and 12 laws.
⭐️5/5
Recommend: I would recommend this book even though there are certain points that are redundant. The reading is short, and the narration is simple and short for quick reading and serves to remind us of points that we sometimes forget when we get absorbed in the day-to-day routine.

Want to ride an elephant?
You should start by knowing this. Whether they are used for deforestation, for tourism, for entertainment or for painting all elephants start their journey in the same place. All captive elephants around the world went through something called the training box. They separate the calf (baby elephant) from their mother, then they tie them up and cage them in a kind of box where they beat them for 24 hours straight with bullhooks, with nails, with chains, etc., until their love for their mother is replaced by their fear of man and the bullhook. They abuse them until they have no brain left, no "thought" left. If it doesn't work in the first 24 hours, this torture is repeated for another 24 hours and another 24 hours and another 24 hours until it works. When the calf comes out of the cage and goes to their mother, the baby does not recognize her. After that process the calf goes to an elephant training camp where it is taught to paint, stand on balls, ride tricycles and entertain tourists. This can go on for weeks or months. Many are maimed and develop mental illnesses. Many others die in the process. Elephants are born to be wild, they are not born to dance, act or paint. Spread the word and support Elephant Nature Parks. Be aware and be empathetic. Elephants are endangered and these elephants can only be free and have some peace in a nature park, for they would not survive in their natural habitat. Remember this the next time you want to ride an elephant. Documentary: Love & Bananas

This month's episodes
We have started our podcast with two very different episodes, experimenting with different methods.
Our first episode exposed different websites we deem useful for studying. Although it is a bit tiresome to listen to i think it is a good collection of useful websites that our listeners can access through the description of the podcast. This episode was recorded long-distance which has created a lot of issues for us and is noticeable throughout the episode, giving it a cold and distant feeling.
The second episode was more sentimental and recorded in spanish. We share the fears and insecurities we have and have been facing lately. This episode is fantastic since it allows our listeners to not feel alone and understand that we are all going through similar problems. It is also beneficial to us since Irene and I have been able to voice our thoughts, a good exercise to understand ourselves and bring different perspectives to the table that result in a more wholistic analysis of our emotions.
Overall, im very happy with how the start of the podcast went and am looking forward to how it will develop.

Los traficantes de miedo encajan en dos campos: Last month, a group of technology executives, including Elon Musk and some AI luminaries, added fuel to the fire when they called for a six-month pause on developing advanced AI systems so that the industry could build safeguards against harmful outcomes. The call from tech executives to pause innovation is both unprecedented and unnecessary. Barron's Tech recently talked to Meta Platforms chief AI scientist Yann LeCun about the current state of AI, the rise of ChatGPT, and his views on why asking for a moratorium on AI research is misguided. LeCun is one of the AI industry's most prominent scientists and has been an outspoken critic of those who have exaggerated the capabilities of the underlying technology used by AI chatbots such as ChatGPT He's a professor at New York University and joined Facebook - now Meta - in 2013. Along with Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, LeCun received the 2018 ACM Turing Award - known as the Nobel Prize of computing - for his research around deep learning techniques that have become foundational for modern AI technologies. The three scientists have frequently been called the "Godfathers of AI" for their work in the space. Here are the edited highlights from our conversation with LeCun. What are the models good for and not so good for? They are good for writing aides. It can help you formulate things in a grammatically correct style. But answering factual questions? They are not so good... The model is either regurgitating what's stored in its memory or regurgitating some approximate thing that is a mix or interpolation of various things that it has read in the training data. That means it can be factually wrong or it is just making stuff up that sounds good.   Why do AI chatbots have such large problems with accuracy at times? When you have a system like this that basically predicts one word after another, they are difficult to control or steer because what they produce depends entirely on the statistics they trained on and the given prompt. Mathematically there is a good chance that it will diverge exponentially from the path of correct answers. The longer the answer that is produced the more likely you end up producing complete garbage...   Are we near AGI, or artificial general intelligence, when machines are able to learn and think for themselves? There are claims that by scaling out those [LLM] systems we will reach human level intelligence. My opinion on this is that it is completely false. There are a lot of things we do not understand that we do not know how to reproduce with machines yet - what some people call AGI. We're not going to be able to use a technology like ChatGPT or GPT4 to train a robot to clear a table or fill up the dishwasher. Even though this is a trivial task for a child. We still can't do it. We still don't have level five [fully] autonomous driving. That requires a complete different skill set you can't learn by reading text. (Full article)
Next is Emily M. Bender, who, like myself, is trained in linguistics.
She is a professor of linguistics at the University of Washington, and the Faculty Director of the Computational Linguistics Master's Program.

And here is another article by Emily M. Bender.
Google CEO peddles #AIhype on CBS 60 minutes Another tweet thread turned into a blog post, to keep it all in one place, reacting to this tweet/clip from CBS 60 Minutes (as flagged by Melanie Mitchell):
This is so painful to watch. @60Minutes and @sundarpichai working in concert to heap on the #AIHype. Partial transcript (that I just typed up) and reactions from me follow:
Is there Bangla in the training data?
Of course there is:
Did you catch that rhetorical sleight of hand? Why would our (I assume, scientific) understanding of human psychology or neurobiology be relevant here? The reporter asked why a company would be releasing systems it doesn't understand. Are humans something that companies "turn loose on" society? (Of course not...) The rhetorical move @sundarpichai is making here invites the listener to imagine Bard as something like a person, whose behavior we have to live with or maybe patiently train to be better. IT. IS. NOT. More generally, any time an AI booster makes this move ("we don't understand humans either") they're either trying to evade accountability or trying to sell their system as some mysterious, magical, autonomous being. Reporters should recognize this and PUSH BACK... (Full article.)

Paris Marx is joined by Emily M. Bender to discuss what it means to say that ChatGPT is a "stochastic parrot," why Elon Musk is calling to pause AI development, and how the tech industry uses language to trick us into buying its narratives about technology. She's also the director of the Computational Linguistics Laboratory.
What AI Chat Bots are Actually Doing Today
One of the easiest ways to see what these AI Chat bots are doing is to use one to search for yourself, or maybe someone else you know, and then see if what they say is accurate or not.
As I have previously reported, I am not able to test the most popular of these AI Chat programs, ChatGPT by Microsoft, because when I tried to setup an account, it wanted a REAL cell phone number, and not a "virtual" one.
Tumblr media
So I declined to proceed further...
If you try to install ChatGPT as an extension to your web browser, you get this warning:
Again, I declined, since I do NOT trust "the developer"...
However, there is one new search site that uses AI Chat software, and they claim that they are,
"A search engine free of tracking and invasive ads"...
This is You.com:
However,
much like privacy-oriented Duckduckgo.com, You.com uses search results from Microsoft's Bing search engine. (Source)
That means, much like Google, there are algorithms in place to display search results and make sure you do not find information that they call "misinformation."
So I took advantage of being able to use this AI search tool without having to register or identify myself, and I started by simply typing in my name, which produced this:
Brian Shilhavy appears to be the Senior Editor at Health Impact News and founder/owner of Healthy Traditions. He has authored a book called "Virgin Coconut Oil: How It Has Changed People's Lives, and How It Can Change Yours!" and has also published articles related to vaccines and vaccines safety. The website HealthImpactNews.com, founded by Brian Shilhavy, has run numerous stories related to COVID-19 vaccine safety and efficacy, some of which have been criticized for containing misinformation. It's worth noting that some of his claims have been disputed by health experts and organizations.
There was a field to ask a follow-up question, so I asked:
"does brian shilhavy provide evidence that vaccines are not safe?", since much of what I have published is taken directly out of the U.S. Government's own VAERS database.
This is the answer it gave:
While Brian Shilhavy has published articles and written books on vaccines claiming that they may cause harm, there is significant disagreement within the scientific community about the veracity of these claims. There is a wealth of scientific evidence supporting the safety and efficacy of vaccines, and government health agencies worldwide have recommended vaccination as an important public health measure. It's worth noting that some of Shilhavy's claims have been disputed by health experts and organizations. Therefore, it's important to consult a variety of trustworthy sources when it comes to making healthcare decisions.
Notice that it did not answer my question, but just repeated the propaganda that the CDC, FDA, and others publish.
On the side bar, it listed this link:
This is an older 2018 hit piece against an article we published that was going viral on Facebook at the time, which successfully killed our traffic as most people would just read the headline and never click through to the article, which never actually said the information we provided was "false," because it wasn't.
Here is why they said it was "misleading and inaccurate."
They also didn't provide a link to the article we published, so that someone could verify for themselves that what we were actually publishing was "misleading and inaccurate" or not.
And most people today can't think for themselves anyway, and would not be able to clearly see propaganda here, such as the statement "it is not necessary for petitioners to present proof" which is meaningless, because petitioners most certainly DO present proof when they file a claim most of the time, whether it is "necessary" or not.
They also used the logical fallacy of argument of silence, by saying we did not provide "peer-reviewed evidence of the flu vaccine's harms."
But we never claimed we provided "peer-reviewed" evidence, and the lack of that evidence proves nothing.
We provided a different kind of evidence that is contained in the Government VAERS database, as well as settled claims in the National Vaccine Court for deaths and injuries due to the flu vaccine – something most people are not even aware exists.
This is what AI Chat does. It just takes the propaganda from Google or Bing and creates text and narratives around that "information" to combat "misinformation" according to them.
And as I and many others have already reported, and what Microsoft and Google publicly admit, is that,
if the AI Chat bot does not find the information needed to craft a response, it just makes stuff up...
And yet, this has been unleashed to the public in a massive way, with disastrous results, as it collects the data you supply so it can continue to "train" their AI.
Here is a report just published this week by an investment advisor who shows that AI Chat software is degrading, NOT enhancing, online information.
Tumblr media

2. You Are An Angel, I Am An Astronaut:

me digo de vez en cuando como hey jared ur still alive ur still alive!! live!live! tho i still feel like i am putting back a destroyed town that is me after a natural disaster, piece by piece, day by day.. with this idea in mind everything that happens to me is all of a sudden really valuable. even a conversation with a really superficial person lets say, you learn what you don't want and why by listening to your discomfort. . . there is something even more interesting i've learned, and it is that a really pure and kind person to a certain extreme can also be offensive. i understand why it can be hard to respect people that don't seem to have developed some kind of a protective shell, that show their intimate self and secrets with any that come by. it's been on my mind, and for many reasons i fished it out of that audio you sent me.. i was really angry, i still feel that its too specific, its hard to believe you weren't trying to say something about me. i have always trusted your word. i want to ask, is it true what you are saying to me? you put that just out of curiosity, just to share?
i also think, if you are telling the truth, my messages might have been much more hurtful. but.. to get to the point to think that we might not talk anymore seems to really go against everything i have already expressed to you since the last time we actually saw each other. all those feelings are true, all those little hopes, all that willingness to do many many things to fight for something that means so much to me. i don't know, i will never accept to end things on this kind of tone of hate. i don't hate you. i know that you don't hate me. what actually happened last night im not sure, i was sensitive, it was a hard day, i reacted really strong. at the same time i simply can't be a target for your anger on here, its too much for me, it would be too masochistic as well to keep communicating if you write me in that kind of way.. there are limits i have and, for example, if the way i perceived that trickster message was the truth, you would have crossed one for me.
i actually love you very very much, in any case. even if u decided to just hate me, or me hate you, i would still love you very much. where is all that love going to go?? it floats around confused and follows me everywhere. its a strange lost cloud of emotions that fills me and doesn't know where to go.
soon i will go to armenia. i plan to read and write and think a lot. maybe could be a good time to talk about many things on here. i won't be saying any more to hurt you, okay? try not too either, i mean, take care of your words.

"The great dilemma every morning is waking up Luna to make the bed 😂😂😂"
Luna's human
😁😻😸
This kitten appeared in front of our house in the middle of 2019, brought by a stray cat we were feeding.
We took her in, sterilized her, and her human came to her, a year and a half later.
The news we receive from him are beautiful. Full of love and joy to have her in his life. And she... well, the photos and her body expressions say it all.
As rescuers we invested more than 5 million COP (USD 3.000) in her food, sand, stuff for her and medical bills. We received support of how $500,000 COP (300 USD) that is, 10%. Mostly given by women.
Emotionally, we had difficult times. We couldn't leave Luna walk freely around the house because we have two other cats and she has leukemia. It broke our hearts to leave her separately, in a room.
Today, looking at these photos, remembering her story, seeing pictures of when she was a kitten, and what Brownie (the cat who brought her) did for her, warms my heart.
Yes, animal rescue can be difficult, emotionally draining, many times costly. However, looking back, would it have been less hard to leave her on the street? To imagine her cold and wet at night? To think that her life would have been shortened to 1/3 or 1/6 of what she can live if she's peacefully at home with people that love her?
They are not easy questions to think about. I understand why many people prefer not to get close, not to develop emotional connections.
I am happy having develop connections with her and having rescued her. I am also very happy to read news from her, her human shares with us.
I often feel that the fear of what we imagine it to be, the difficulty, the financial burden, the emotional connection that might hurt, is more difficult and overwhelming than the situation itself. While walking the path, people appear, support appears, strength appears, and the joy of seeing these beings happy, healthy, loved, is a deep gratification for the soul.

Tú puedes! 💪🏻 Yes You Can! 😀🎨. . . . . Sometimes we are afraid to paint because we think we are not good even without trying, but you know what? Perhaps you have not thought that drawing or painting "with or without sense, with or without talent" was one of the first things you did as a child. Instinctively, as a baby you surely already grabbed a pencil or crayon and took it in your hand, made scratches or lines without your parents having told you "this is done like this" many times it is our instinct that is there inside us with something that You Already Know but over time we have forgotten it or we simply do not continue to develop it. Don't be afraid to go back to the root, where your feelings are there ready to come out through this rich and noble means of expression. I wait for you to paint with me! 😀🎨. . . . #paintwithme #pintaconmigo #artforall #artforadults #artworkshops #talleresdearte #tallerdepintura #yesyoucan #motivationalart #inspirationalart #yesyoucan #happiness #artequecura #healingart #artwithpurpose #artwithconsciousness #consciousness #consciousnessart #artistaspintores #artistpainters #artclass #artclasses #paintingclass (at Ciudad Juárez) https://www.instagram.com/p/CepR2P_pkwd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Q: Is there a specific moment in the series regarding Bakugo Katsuki that sticks out in your mind for any reason?
Moderator’s note: I did my best with the translations after each paragraph so they made sense to read in chunks. While I can read Spanish and some Portuguese, English is my primary language. The survey welcomes input in any language, but please be aware that I may not be able to translate them.
[One of my favorite moments is when Deku tells Katsuki about his secret for the first time and Katsuki cries openly at him in frustration.]
Tumblr media
[Katsuki is scared of Deku’s sudden progress and the enormous potential of their new classmates! Wondering things like, 'I've worked hard all this time, and yet apparently Deku and others are almost as strong as me. Am I not enough? Haven't I worked hard enough?' and in his tears we see the GENUINE frustration, the fear, the anger. And despite all of those negative emotions, Katsuki promises that he will surpass Deku; surpass everyone.]
[What I love most about Katsuki is that he is a vulnerable kid and he doesn't hide it. He is not always greatly aware of his feelings; he has low emotional development so he often cannot recognize how he is feeling beyond bad or good. He prefers to deny his feelings or bury them rather than face them. He is a very strong person in his own way, but he is not perfect by any means.]
[And yet he does not give in to his fears. He is as admirable as Deku. The only difference in them is the awareness of their own emotions and that Deku is able to trust others to achieve a goal while Katsuki is not.]
