MDZS AO3 Stats
I decided to look at ship stats all the works on AO3 for MDZS, however all the data listed here comes from the fandom tag “魔道祖师 - 墨香铜臭 | Módào Zǔshī - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù”
Below is the most popular (romantic) ship tags as well as the most popular (romantic) ships by rating
First, I looked at the top 10 ships over all which left me with this little nifty table
Tumblr media
And then I started to wonder whether this order changes for different ratings so I sorted through each rating to find the top 10 ships from each rating (not including any platonic relationships) and got the following results:
Tumblr media
(Not in the data on this chart because I didn’t realize until much later in the process, but for explicit fics, Jiang Yanli/Jin Zixuan has the same number of fics as Song Lan/Xiao Xingchen/Xue Yang)
But all of this was just a bunch of numbers and it takes a lot of time looking them to really form any sort of correlation or see any general trends so I decided to make a chart instead (a bar graph to be specific) and I ended up with:
Tumblr media
And I decided that having Wangxian there makes it hard to determine any other data and we all know that it is the most popular ship by far so I can just take it out, fill in the rest of the data for each ship (even if they were not in the top 10 for every rating), and see what remains which is
Tumblr media
And it seems that once you get past Wangxian and Xicheng, the rest of ships switch with popularity depending on the rating (though Xiyao also rates really high with every rating as well).
I don’t really know what they implication of this is, but I can say I was a little surprised by how big of a gap there was between Wangxian and everyone else.

for the ship ask, how do you feel about 3zun?
oooh thanks for the ask!
as for 3zun - i feel complicated, just like the ship itself is complicated
mingyao are narrative foils of each other, which always makes the ship fucking delicious. jgy follows his own moral code, while nmj has a moral code that is absolute and follows the sense of justice of the nie sect. this is where they clash and ultimately fall apart.
but then, lxc is the one who holds them together. he forces them to meet each other eye to eye, perhaps in the hopes that his two brothers will mend things, but only succeeds in making it worse.
so, for me, 3zun is a hopeless ship - yet a ship that you can't help but wish for things to be different. what could have changed, had jgy not killed his commander? what could have changed, had nmj not banished jgy? what could have changed, had lxc never met jgy during his time on the run? what could have changed, had jgy never gone back to his father?
it's like the greek myth of orpheus. he's told not to look back, otherwise he will lose everything, and these 3 cannot help but constantly look back, towards the past (jgy is stuck on revenge for the past, nmj can't look past jgy's past misdeeds, and lxc yearns for their relationship to be the same as it was in the past), which is their ultimate downfall.
it's messy and complicated and doomed by the narrative but by hell - it's great fic fodder.

hey how come we call it Nieyao and not Mingyao or Jueyao so it uses NMJ’s personal name instead of his clan name?
and why is Nielan (which is BOTH clan names and could therefore also refer to both their brothers) and not Mingchen or Xijue or any other combo you can make with the personal halves of their courtesy names?
was this a Choice or was it just one of those things?

Polyship Week 2023 Day 4: Soulmates
I love the idea of soulmates leaving their name on you the first time you touch so MingXiChengYao modern soulmates AU. I was trying something new with colour palettes so each character is the colours associated with their sects.
MingYao and XiYao are pretty similar to canon (NMJ helping JGY after he’s been bullied, LXC accepting a gift from JGY). ChengYao is from JC letting JGY hold the baby (let JGY hold the baby!). XiCheng is from LXC stopping JC from running away (after JC freaks out about the soulmate mark he just got from elbowing NMJ in the gut). NieLan is from when they were itty bitty kids who bumped into each other at school.

[Monster & the beast]
NieYao | Mo Dao Zu Shi Cross-Over AU idea 25-06-2021
[#mingyao monster & the beast AU]
nmj is a demon/monster living somewhat peacefully in his forest. He's what most humans would call scary and ugly, hence why they always run away from him since he's very big and menacing compared to them (also why some try to come to hunt him only to back off when they realised just how large and strong he actually is).
Otherwise, it is peaceful in the forest, most other creature leaves him alone and he can easily find food around the forest.
There's no one else like him (maybe nhs got taken away because he looked somehow human enough, so someone "saved" him from the monster in the forest and nmj was never able to find him back, hopefully, he was treated well).
He did feel lonely at times, but he also knew all he would get from trying to reach out to people would be fear. Then one day, as he wanders around the forest to pass the time, he stumbles on a group of people surrounding and overpowering a man. He feels like he shouldn't get involved in the situation, but hearing the man making pained noises he can't help but act, saving him.
jgy is a man travelling around, finding and selling valuable herbs and treasures. He may or may not be running from trouble of his past, but despite being somewhat pursued he still lives life easily and without trouble, he simply doesn't attach himself to anyone.
then one day he needs some help to cross this dense forest, where it could take a long time without someone to shoot the shortcuts, so he does accept the help of these fellows who generously suggested their help (not without a piece obviously).
and then jgy realises they might /not/ be taking him where he really wants to go, each of them casually flashing weapons and how strong they are, taking great interest in the things he carries (which could get a lot of money too) This is how he ends up with them finally making their move, although jgy does try to fight back, they are a bit too much for him to handles correctly.
This is when nmj enters the game. saving him.
jgy isn't scared by him (to nmj surprise) and is instead rather friendly with him, treating him as if he was any other human. He ends up explaining his situation as he prepares to try and find his way through the forest (wouldn't be the first time he got lost somewhere).
but nmj ends up stopping him, actually guiding him on his journey to the town he's trying to reach.
It's refreshing and nice, to have someone who so casually talks to him, as if nothing was wrong. nmj ends up growing pretty fond of jgy on their couple of days of travelling.
When they finally reach the town, nmj wants to keep going with him, yet jgy says he should stay in his forest, where it is safe and no one (or nearly no one) will bother him. Plus, it would be hard for him to travel with him without being noticed.
But then nmj says he can hide in shadows! So he could always hide in jgy shadow if needed!
jgy ends up accepting since it is actually pleasing to travel with nmj (and teasing him by flirting is really funny, it so easy to fluster the large monster). and so they travel some more like this, going from place to place, never staying for long at the same place.
nmj is slowly falling in love with jgy, something he never did. While jgy suspects he might be getting too attached to nmj, something he never allowed himself.
but how could he not when he enjoys nmj company so much?
Eventually, things about what jgy did in the past do reach him, which he did think nmj would leave him ("I am sure jgy did what he did because of reason" he is told). I don't have any really built plot for that part, I just want monster!NMJ and traveller!JGY to travel around the world and fall in love with each other lajnfkjh
maybe jgy had to do some criminal stuff and fled, and now it pursuing him. Maybe he's not fully human himself. who knows

3, 10 and 12!
3. what is your favorite ship?
Do I have to pick just one?
• Favourite 'Canon' Ship: MingYao
• Favourite 'Fanon' Ship: ChengSang
• Favourite 'Off-the-Wall-Insane' Ship: ...probably Mingjue/Xue Yang (MingYang)
10. what song do you associate with a ship?
Um...
Mo Ghile Mear for ChengSang
12. favorite hc for a ship, character, etc.
Ooof.
Um.
Good question.
I like the one thing that spawned out of an RP with my sworn brother that involved Guangslut at the age of 12 sticking his dick into a beehive and claiming that the swelling from the stings is proof of his future sexual prowess.
Thanks for the ask!

New AI Tool Brings Precision Pathology for Cancer and Beyond Into Quicker, Sharper Focus - Technology Org
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/new-ai-tool-brings-precision-pathology-for-cancer-and-beyond-into-quicker-sharper-focus-technology-org/
New AI Tool Brings Precision Pathology for Cancer and Beyond Into Quicker, Sharper Focus - Technology Org
Penn Medicine researchers developed an artificial intelligence tool to quickly analyze gene activities in medical images and provide single-cell insight into diseases in tissues and tissue microenvironments.
A medical robot – artistic interpretation.
A new artificial intelligence tool that interprets medical images with unprecedented clarity does so in a way that could allow time-strapped clinicians to dedicate their attention to critical aspects of disease diagnosis and image interpretation.
The tool, called iStar (Inferring Super-Resolution Tissue Architecture), was developed by researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, who believe they can help clinicians diagnose and better treat cancers that might otherwise go undetected.
The imaging technique provides both highly detailed views of individual cells and a broader look of the full spectrum of how people’s genes operate, which would allow doctors and researchers to see cancer cells that might otherwise have been virtually invisible.
This tool can be used to determine whether safe margins were achieved through cancer surgeries and automatically provide annotation for microscopic images, paving the way for molecular disease diagnosis at that level.
A paper on the method, led by Daiwei “David” Zhang, PhD, a research associate, and Mingyao Li, PhD, a professor of Biostatistics and Digital Pathology, was published in Nature Biotechnology.
I said that iStar could automatically detect critical anti-tumour immune formations called “tertiary lymphoid structures,” whose presence correlates with a patient’s likely survival and favourable response to immunotherapy, which is often given for cancer and requires high precision in patient selection. This means, Li said, that iStar could be a powerful tool for determining which patients would benefit most from immunotherapy.
The development of iStar was taken on as part of the field of spatial transcriptomics, a relatively new field used to map gene activities within the space of tissues. Li and her colleagues adapted a machine learning tool called the Hierarchical Vision Transformer and trained it on standard tissue images. It begins by breaking down images into different stages, starting small and looking for fine details, then moving up and “grasping broader tissue patterns,” according to Li.
A network guided by the AI system within iStar uses the information from the Hierarchical Vision Transformer to absorb all of that information then and apply it to predict gene activities, often at near-single-cell resolution.
“The power of iStar stems from its advanced techniques, which mirror, in reverse, how a pathologist would study a tissue sample,” Li explained. “Just as a pathologist identifies broader regions and then zooms in on detailed cellular structures, iStar can capture the overarching tissue structures and also focus on the minutiae in a tissue image.”
To test the efficacy of the tool, Li and her colleagues evaluated iStar on many different types of cancer tissue, including breast, prostate, kidney, and colorectal cancers, mixed with healthy tissues. Within these tests, iStar was able to automatically detect tumor and cancer cells that were hard to identify just by eye. Clinicians in the future may be able to pick up and diagnose more hard-to-see or hard-to-identify cancers with iStar acting as a layer of support.
In addition to the clinical possibilities presented by the iStar technique, the tool moves extremely quickly compared to other, similar AI tools. For example, when set up with the breast cancer dataset the team used, iStar finished its analysis in just nine minutes. By contrast, the best competitor AI tool took more than 32 hours to come up with a similar analysis.
That means iStar was 213 times faster.
“The implication is that iStar can be applied to a large number of samples, which is critical in large-scale biomedical studies,” Li said. “Its speed is also important for its current extensions in 3D and biobank sample prediction. In the 3D context, a tissue block may involve hundreds to thousands of serially cut tissue slices. The speed of iStar makes it possible to reconstruct this huge amount of spatial data within a short period of time.”
And the same goes for biobanks, which store thousands, if not millions, of samples. This is where Li and her colleagues are next aiming their research and extension of iStar. They hope to help researchers gain better understandings of the microenvironments within tissues, which could provide more data for diagnostic and treatment purposes moving forward.

Native Foods: Edible Flowers Of Tonkin Jasmine, Moringa, Banana, Papaya, Durian And Pumpkin
While edible flowers are a good source of nutritious food, they are often overlooked in cooking. However, they can be used in cake decorations, fruit and flower arrangements, and bouquets. Jiao Mingyao is a culinary expert who says that the roots, stems and leaves of edible flowers can all be eaten. He would first prepare edible flowers for cooking by poaching them in salt water. Then, he would make a stir fry, soup, or porridge with the flowers.
Wang Yi of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences believes that floral fragrances have a relaxing effect on the liver.
Flowers also contain glucoside which is thought to be good for your health. The Japanese butterbur flower buds are a good example of quercetin-glucosides that have anti-allergic properties.
Tonkin Jasmine
The first thing that I associate with floral eating is the tiny, greenish-white Tonkin jasmine blossoms that grow on my backyard vine. Fresh Tonkin flowers can be used in a variety of dishes, including a stir-fry with garlic or a soup. This edible flora is rich in vitamins A, C, carbohydrates, and proteins.
Moringa Flower
However, I have yet make a dish with the cream white moringa flowers that grow abundantly in my neighborhood. This delicious flora is a good source of calcium and potassium. It makes for a unique salad or stir-fry.
Banana Flower
The banana flower cannot be prepared immediately. It must first be removed from the hard pistils, scales, and white florets. Only after removing all unwanted parts, the banana heart can be prepared.
