Time: 6-8pm
Location: VPA Complex, Build. 70

Register for Event: Advance Registration/Self-Attestation*
For ADA Accommodations: Carol Silveira at [email protected]
Lecture Title: Collectivity as Practice
Lecture Description: Related Tactics (Michele Carlson, Weston Teruya, and Nate Watson) will discuss our work together as a collaborative unit, a platform that allows us to disrupt the idea of a singular artist voice wherever possible—challenging the radical individualism embedded in the art world and our lives—particularly as we engage with issues requiring a multiplicity of perspectives to build collective analysis and power. While the core of our work is a creative collaboration between the three leads, we often utilize curatorial approaches as artistic gestures to construct space for collective voice, address the impacts of systemic white supremacy, and foster mutual support and transformation.
About Collective: Related Tactics is an artistic collaboration between artists and cultural workers Michele Carlson, Weston Teruya, and Nathan Watson. Formed in 2015, our projects are made at the intersection of race and culture. We explore the connections between art, movements for social justice, and the public through trans-disciplinary exchanges, collective making, and dialog. Related Tactics has exhibited at Wexner Center for the Arts, University of San Francisco Thacher Gallery, Southern Exposure, The Luminary, and Center for Craft; and supported through Kala Art Institute’s Print Public, Montalvo Arts Center, Craft Research Fund, San Francisco Arts Commission, and Ruth Foundation for the Arts.

Embarking on Flavorful Tales: Exploring Saratoga Culinary Wonders Through the Ages
Tumblr media
'Gardens of Serenity: Unveiling the Soul of Saratoga, CA' explores the verdant tapestry of gardens that add beauty and tranquility to this Californian city.
This detailed guide unravels the intricate relationship between the city's landscape and its community, highlighting the gardens as not just places of natural beauty, but as vital components of Saratoga's identity.
The text presents an articulate narrative that carries readers through the city's well-manicured parks, private gardens, and public spaces, illustrating how these havens of serenity foster a sense of belonging and unity among residents.
Discover the soul of Saratoga through the lens of its gardens, its green heart beating steadily amidst urban life.
Unearthing Saratoga's Green Gems
Diving into Saratoga's green gems, we begin to uncover the tranquil beauty and diverse flora that define this Californian haven.
Nestled amidst the urban sprawl of Silicon Valley, Saratoga's gardens offer a serene retreat, flourishing with an array of indigenous plants and exotic species.
The Montalvo Arts Center, Villa Montalvo, and Hakone Gardens are prime examples, each presenting unique botanical landscapes that evoke a sense of belonging and peace.
From the towering redwoods of Villa Montalvo to the meticulously manicured Zen gardens of Hakone, these green spaces are deeply imbued with the region's cultural and ecological heritage.
They serve as serene sanctuaries for locals and tourists alike, confirming Saratoga's reputation as a verdant refuge in the heart of California's bustling tech hub.
Gardens' Role in Community Cohesion
While these gardens serve as tranquil retreats, they also play a pivotal role in fostering community cohesion in Saratoga. They act as shared spaces where residents can connect with nature and each other, serving as stages for communal interactions. From casual strolls to organized events, these green oases provide opportunities for residents to come together and engage in various activities.
Moreover, the gardens help in nurturing a sense of communal identity and shared responsibility. Residents actively participate in their maintenance, appreciating their beauty and taking pride in their upkeep. This collective effort strengthens the bonds within the community, creating a sense of belonging and unity.
Additionally, the gardens provide therapeutic benefits, enhancing the overall well-being of residents. Being in nature and surrounded by beauty offers a sense of calm and relaxation. This contributes to the physical and mental health of individuals, promoting a healthier and happier community.
Furthermore, the gardens bridge generational gaps, serving as education platforms for younger generations while providing serene spaces for older residents. Children can learn about the environment and the importance of preserving nature, while older residents can find solace and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

You may notice most links on this page don't work, I'm still working on that. Sunsquashed is back up and my email is working - if something has bounced in the past week, please re-send it. But my advice is never, ever, ever do business with webhostplus or. The details are lengthy and not worth rehashing (you can read all about it here if you have the stomach for it). Sunsquashed has been down for a week due to a total lack of competence of 's part (AKA webhostplus AKA my ex-webhoster). Like Deja Vu All Over Again (Happy Birthday Yogi) My tradelist, the complete list of setlists, and the discography are back up for those seeking them.
James McNew plays bass on Jennifer O'Connor's new album.

I'm assuming it will be on their webcast as well. YLT will be on KEXP in Seattle on at 3PM (assuming Pacific time). I've listened to this interview, and it's excellent. The streaming interview is available here. James McNew is interviewed at Iceberg Radio. The interview/performance starts a minute or so in. The Oct 24 KEXP show mentioned below is available right here. Was the refusal of the cast of "The Times They AreĪ-Changin'" to take part the last straw? Really, is there anything to Just wouldn't be able to put together a lineup as Hanukkahriffic as We have concluded that our touring schedule is such we Reluctantly decided not to play the eight nights of Hanukkah this yearĪt Maxwell's. Ironically, that cover song is way better than anything off of this disastrous release. In answer to the most FA'd Q of the last few months, we have You get three CDs, including Acid Eaters and Mondo Bizarro, which has their cover of the Spider-man theme song. And if you're a completist who has to buy all the Ramones releases, get The Chrysalis Years. Buy any other Ramones album other than this one. Unsurprisingly, there is not one song from Acid Eaters on that, which should hopefully tell you something. The compilation Hey! Ho! Let's Go: The Anthology is a very good look at most of the Ramones' material. Even with that they still sound like a good opening band, definitely not the powerful being that was the Ramones. My favorite track on this was "I Can't Control Myself," as the whole production was wonderfully amazing. The closest thing to bubblegum here is "Surf City " by the time I got that far I had grown tired of listening (I was bored through the whole thing). The high point in Joey's vocals is the cover of "Substitute" by the Who, an OK cover, but not great. They sound like a crappy cover band trying to make a few bucks. Actually, on all the songs he sounds tired and lackluster and the whole band seems pretty bored and uncreative. The notable power chord sounds we have expected from the Ramones are finally emerging. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" is an exception. One problem with Acid Eaters is the production, the guitar was too low and in the background on most songs. These songs sounded great when played in the Ramones' punk fashion. They have done great cover songs before Acid Eaters like "Let's Dance," "California Sun" "Do You Wanna Dance?" and "Palisades Park," which were 60s bubblegum pop songs, not hippy tunes. But this album of '60s psychedelic cover songs was the worst thing in their 22-year career. The Ramones are one of my favorite bands.

Sometimes it's the silliest stories, the maddest moments, the most whimsical wisdom that helps us to feel seen, and heard, and loved.
Sometimes, it's the most absurd adventures the most joyous journeys, the most fantastic flights of fancy that teach us who we are.
Sometimes, it's the most playful people the most fabulous friends and the company that we keep that reminds us where we belong. Thank you for supporting our work! https://www.weplayers.org/donate
